If so, how? : My friend took me to a movie and dinner for my birthday.  We went to see Sex and the City.  Afterward we went to have dinner at California Pizza Kitchen and there was nothing really on my mind other than telling my friend I am gay.  She kept talking about random things that didn't matter and I was getting more and more anxious. 
What made you choose that person to tell? : She is my best friend, and the person with whom, I had a "friends with benefits" situation at one time (the only woman I ever had sex with.)
Can you remember exactly what you said? : Finally, after the appetizers arrived and we'd had several sips of our wine, I had a bite of pizza in my mouth, and I stammered in a very low voice, "Would it come as a surprise to you, if I told you I was gay?"
How did you feel? : Terrified!  Anxious!  Sick to my stomach!
What was the person’s reaction? : Not surprised.  Curious.  Supportive.
What did they say? : "Not really, no."
What was your relationship with the person like afterwards? : Immediately after, it was a little strained.  I needed to get some space alone.  The next time I saw her, everything was fine.

If you’ve experienced homophobia etc, please give an example. : No one who knows I'm gay has been homophobic with me.  Only from my mother who doesn't know I'm gay.  I have of course experienced homophobia when people have made assumptions and comments, but nothing terribly direct and specific.

1. O the nostalgia for simpler times: Gaius is a lunatic but not a prophet; 6 is a blond; Starbuck has a personality; Boomer is still innocently Boomering along.
2. This episode has one of my all-time favorite plots.  The Cylons are in such tangibly hot pursuit, and no one's had time to deal with the reality of the human race being nearly annhilated.  The twice-an-hour attack throws the fragility and vulnerability of humanity into sharp relief.  Apparently Cylon raiders have no bedtime.
3. Boomer holds up better against the sleep deprivation than the others.  (Come to think of it, Saul does relatively well, too, but could that have been intentional?)  Are skin jobs physically superior to humans?  If so, are there clues of this sort that point to the Final Cylon?
4. I was completely oblivious to the Apollo/Starbuck luvfest the first time around, because she was going to marry his brother, so, uh, ew?  On second viewing, it's as obvious as a sprinkle-topped donut in the middle of a radioactive wasteland.  But, unlike a donut, it makes me gag.
5. President Roslin actually cried when the Olympic Carrier disappeared.  Have I ever cried since then?
6. Speaking of me, what's up with that flirty little smile I give Adama over the phone?  Granted, he probably can't hear it through my generally steely demeanor.  But apparently I've been swooning for Bill since Day 1.
7. Virtual 6 starts hammering away at the "let's have a baby!" theme within five minutes of the credits.  Jesus, woman!  The whole baby theme has died down in the last season, except for the occasional opera house chase scene, but it occupied much of Seasons 1&2.  Is it coming back in 4.5, or - as Starbuck has posited on these pages - are we abandoning the procreation gimmick?
8. Kara and Fat Lee have reversed hairstyle lameness quotients over the course of the series.  Seriously, her 'do does nothing for me.
9. Random candidates for the Final Cylon from this episode:  Billy Keikeya; that old couple sitting across from Gaius giving him weird looks when he talks to himself; Dee; that old deckhand dude; the captain of the Olympic Carrier. Any of these would piss me off.
10. There is so not enough Caprica jungle-runnin' time in this episode.  Also, I feel for the lonely #6 who watches #8 frolic away with Helo.  Why do the fickle eights get to have all the fun?

TER, un riu a domicili
Nou de cada 10 catalans rep aigua del Ter a casa seva

Prop de 6 milions de catalans al llarg del curs d'aquest riu i, sobretot, de l'àrea metropolitana reben aigua del Ter, sovint barrejada amb la del Llobregat. El reporter del programa Miquel Piris és un d'aquests ciutadans. En aquest capítol comença un viatge a través d'una aixeta de casa seva per descobrir d'on ve, què li ha passat pel camí i com han tractat l'aigua que li arriba. El biòleg del Centre d'Estudis dels Rius Mediterranis, Marc Ordeix, l'acompanya en aquest viatge per ensenyar-li a valorar la qualitat de l'aigua del Ter al llarg del seu recorregut. A Osona, els nitrats que provenen de la ramaderia són un dels contaminants que més afecten el Ter. A Vic, Ordeix presenta alguns dels milions de treballadors de la depuradora d'aquesta població que es dediquen a netejar l'aigua. El viatge continua fins a la desembocadura, a Torroella de Montgrí, on cada any arriben menys angules. mit kranken Leuten. Ich kann ja noch verstehen das sie drauf warten, das die Mannschaft was für sie tut, aber was wollen diese Spacken für die Mannschaft tun, na ja egal. Das Navi brachte uns schließlich auf einen Parkplatz in der nähe der Wellblechhütte. Zu Fuß ging es Richtung Eingang wo auch erst die ersten Polizisten auftauchten,

komisch der Weg vom Parkplatz zum Stadion war nicht bewacht, aber hier spielten sich nicht wirklich nette Szenen ab, aber was soll man hier auch anderes Erwarten. Am Eingang trennten sich unsere Wege da drei Mann Steh und drei Mann Sitzplatz hatten. Aus den Erfahrungen vom letzten Derby haben die verantwortlichen wohl ein bisschen was gelernt denn diesmal war es nicht möglich mit einer Sitzplatzkart in den Stehplatz bereich zu kommen. In der Zeit bis zum Anstoß haben wir uns noch das Schauspiel angesehen wie die Mannschaftsbusse

empfangen wurden. Das absolut ärgerlichste war allerdings als der Doofmunder Stadionsprecher seine Fans zum Nachdenken angeregt hat und dann "am Tag als Conny Cramer starb" angespielt hat. Leute ihr habt es echt nicht verstanden oder, wenn ihr beim Derby eine friedliche Stimmung wollt müsst ihr nicht immer wieder provozieren. Aber die Intelligenz der schwarz/gelben Wand erklärt sich nach diesem Bild

der Anzeigetafel wohl von alleine :-) Zum Spiel selber nur so viel: Jefferson Farfan sorgte gleich bei seinem ersten Auftritt für die Königsblauen für das 0:1

in der 89. Minute von Frei war mehr als fragwürdig, da zuvor bei Jakub Blaszczykowskis Kopfball Mladen Krstajic den Arm im Strafraum angelegt hatte und nicht aktiv Richtung Ball ging. Wie schlecht darf ein Schiedsrichter Pfeifen? OK, Fehler macht jeder mal. Auch wenn Wagner bei den beiden Platzverweisen - Gelb-Rot

für Christian Pander und Rot

für Fabian Ernst - richtig lag, die strittigen Entscheidungen vor den Toren, der nicht gegebene Platzverweis an Rafinha oder die mit 20 Sekunden fast lächerlich anberaumte Nachspielzeit werden dem Unparteiischen und seinem Gespann wohl noch ein paar Tage vorgeworfen werden. So fühlten sich nach diesem Derby zu mindestens alle Seiten von Wagner beschissen und der Frust entlud sich nach dem Spiel vor dem Stadion.

Wir haben den Weg zum Auto alle ohne Blessuren überstanden und bei der Ankunft in Groß Mackenstedt mussten auch die 5 schwarz/gelben einsehen das sie besser die Klappe halten. Resümee vom Derby, Schalke kann auswärts 3 Tore schießen, ohne Schiedsrichter wären wir jetzt Tabellenführer und Kevin trift aus 20cm kein leeres Tor.

*NACHTRAG ZUM DERBY*

Vous voyez ici les bretelles, d'entrée et de sortie, de ce qui sera l'échangeur de l'A-85 nord, qui desservira le village de Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!  Elles se raccordent au prolongement de la rue Marquis.

Voici une suite d'images, prises du sud vers le nord, qui montrent que...

...si les bretelles sont, à toutes fins pratiques, complétées,...

...et qu'il reste encore beaucoup de travail à accomplir.

Pour les trois photos suivantes, je me suis déplacé près de ce qui était le motel Francoeur, au nord du village.  Ici, on voit le chantier vers le sud,...

...alors qu'ici, nous sommes directement en face de l'ancien motel, où il ne semble plus y avoir d'activité.

Toujours depuis le même endroit, quand on regarde un peu plus au nord, on constate que les travaux de terrassement n'en sont qu'à leurs premiers balbutiements.

Dernière photo de chantier, vers le nord, depuis la côte, là où l'actuelle route 185 se séparait en deux chaussées distinctes, un peu au nord de l'intersection de la rue Commerciale.

Voilà, c'est terminé en ce qui concerne le duo A-85/QC-185.  Si l'on se fie au site web du MTQ, les travaux que l'on a vus, dans l'ensemble des quatre billets, ont débuté en 2006.  Aucune date de fin des travaux n'est mentionnée, ce qui laisse croire que l'ouverture ne se fera pas avant la fin de 2009, peut-être même en 2010.

Il reste deux autres tronçons à compléter, si l'on veut obtenir une véritable autoroute depuis l'A-20 jusqu'à la frontière du Nouveau-Brunswick.  Celui situé au nord du site de la dernière photo est d'une longueur de quelques 40 kilomètres, et s'étend jusqu'à Saint-Antonin.  Le MTQ est dans l'attente de l'avis de recevabilité du Ministère du développement durable, de l'environnement et des parcs (MDDEP), suite au dépôt, en août 2007, de l'étude environnementale.  Quant à celui qui va de Cabano à la frontière, il sera composé de trois chantiers distincts (de Cabano à Notre-Dame-du-Lac, sur 6 km, de Notre-Dame-du-Lac à Dégelis, sur 14 km, et de Dégelis à la frontière, sur 13 km), totalisant 33 kilomètres, et entrecoupés par les aménagements déjà accomplis par le MTQ, soit à Notre-Dame-du-Lac, sur 1,8 km, en 2002, et à Dégelis, sur 1,2 km, en 2004.  Dans ce dossier, toujours selon le site web du MTQ, la préparation des plans et devis a débuté en mai 2008, une fois que le BAPE ait rendu public son rapport, ce qui fut fait le 24 avril 2007.

Ne reste plus qu'à espérer que la suite des choses se fasse avec diligence, si l'on veut rouler, un jour, sur une autoroute sécuritaire, entre Rivière-du-Loup et Edmundston.  Encore une fois, le Québec sera le chaînon manquant, dans ce dossier, puisque la portion néobrunswicoise de la route Transcanadienne (NB-2) est désormais complétée sur deux chaussées distinctes depuis la fin de 2007.

First, a bit on my ideal Oktoberfest.  I'm not a stickler on color.  It simply doesn't matter to me - yellow gold, orange, amber, reddish, whatever.  I think of Oktoberfest as being primarily about malt - a bit on the rich and intense side, sure, but not caramelly or sweet.  And, the malt needs to be clean - no rough edges here, please, it's a long-lagered style.  Don't have the time/space to do it right?  Don't do it then.  The big malt requires substantial hops in my mind as well.  There needs to be enough bitterness to balance all that malty goodness, at the very least.  I also like some spicy German-hop nose candy as well.  It matches well with all the malt.  A good Oktoberfest also needs to beg to be drunk in quantity, even if I can't.  Ideally, I want to stare in disbelief bordering on annoyance at how quickly my glass was emptied.

Weihenstephaner Festbier - This by far and away my favorite example this year.  It's a lighter color than most Oktoberfests, tending more to a full gold, rather than into the amber range.  It's got a burst of spicy German hops, tons of clean malt flavor, nothing cloying, and enough bitterness to give it a good snap at the finish.  Glasses of this beer just disappear.

Sam Adams Oktoberfest - This is usually a solid example, and that's about as high as it reaches this year.  I noticed no real difference between the draft and bottled versions this year.  This one is more of a malt bomb than the Weihenstephaner, and I would prefer more hops.  But, the malt that's here is quite clean and stays away from the caramelly flavors that can get over-played in this style.

Capital Brewery Oktoberfest - I had high expectations for this one, given how much I generally like Capital's lager offerings.  As a result, this was probably the most disappointing Oktoberfest I've tried this year.  It just sort of lays there.  Not a lot of maltiness, next to no hop.  It's a little rough on the finish too.  Surprising, and in a "gosh, I think that mole has gotten bigger" way.

Schlafly Oktoberfest - I've found Schlafly's Oktoberfest to vary quite a bit over the years.  For the last couple, the emphasis has been very much on a clean malt presence almost to the exclusion of everything else.  This year's rendition continues that trend.  It's very clean, with nothing other than the malt in evidence.  I don't get hops at all, and there is not much complexity to the malt.   It's leaps and bounds better than it used to be back in the Briess malt days, but now (like the Pale and Scotch Ales) it suffers from being so clean that it lacks character.

Left Hand Oktoberfest - Another disappointment, given the quality fo the Left Hand beers I've had so far.  This one goes for a full-throttle caramel character.  The color is a rich Amber-red, and there's little mystery how the color got there after a whiff and a sip.  Way too much caramel/crystal malt character for me.  It's really difficult to even drink a bottle of this at a time, let alone thinking about more than one.

This is obviously not a comprehensive survey of Oktoberfests available to me.  My favorite, year in and year out, has been Ayinger, but I simply have not seen it on the shelves yet this year, and missed out on the first (of two) kegs that Dylan got for 33, so I've not had it yet.  Ditto some of the other German faves, though these are more troubling, and need date-checking as many are year-round beers now, yet only make an appearance on shelves during the August to October season.
