Az NVIDIA a piac legértékesebb részén, a középkategóriában igyekszik felvenni a küzdelmet a rendkívül jó ár-teljesítmény mutatójú AMD ATI Radeon HD 4850 kártyákkal a GeForce 9800 GTX+ révén. A 9800 GTX utódjaként érkezik a 9800 GTX+, mely architekturálisan megegyezik elődjével, ugyanakkor már kisebb geometriájú, 65 helyett 55 nanométeres csíkszélességű félvezető-eljárással készül a tajvani TSMC egy gyárában. A mintegy negyedével kisebb lapka nemcsak olcsóbb előállítási költséget, ezen keresztül pedig nagyobb árazásbeli mozgásteret jelent az NVIDIA számára, de javítja a fogyasztási jellemzőket is, ami teret enged az órajel gazdaságos megemelésének.

A 9800 GTX+ ugyanazzal a felépítéssel bír, mint elődje, vagyis 128 feldolgozóegység (stream processor), 64 textúrázó és 16 raszterizáló végzi a dolgát rajta, melyeket 256 bites adatbusz etet. A 754 millió tranzisztort integráló chip ugyanakkor 738 megahertzen, 9,3 százalékkal magasabban ketyeg, míg a grafikai manipuláció végző feldolgozók 1836 megahertzen, ami 8,6 százalékos növekedés -- a memória órajele maradt 1100 megahertzen. Ezen tuningolás eredményeként tipikusan 5-10 százalék közötti sebességnövekedésre számíthatunk. A magasabb órajel, az 55 nanométeres portolásra fordított mérnöki erőforrások valószínűsíthetően erős korlátozottsága, és a kereskedelmi kihozatal maximalizálásának együttállása okán a GTX+ fogyasztása jelentősen megemelkedett elődjéhez képest.

A GTX+ alá a 9800 GT kerül, mely a legkevésbé érdekes termék, ugyanis teljesen megegyezik architekturálisan a 8800 GT-vel, mindössze szintén gyártástechnológiai váltás történt: 112 feldolgozó, 56 textúrázó, és 16 raszterizáló egység 600 megahertzes alap, 1500-as shader, és 900 megahertzes memória órajellel. A belépőkategóriába a 9500 GT érkezik, mely ennek megfelelően erősen korlátozott erőforrásokkal bír: 55 feldolgozóegység 1400 megahertzes órajelen, 550 megahertzes alap órajel, 128 bites memóriabusz. Cserébe keveset fogyaszt, és kevesebb mint fele akkora magmérete (mindössze 314 millió tranzisztor, 65 nanométeres eljárás) révén drasztikusan olcsóbb az előállítása is, így a boltokba akár 20 ezer forint is alatt kerülhet. A negyedik negyedévben ez a modell is megkapja az 55 nanométeres frissítést.

Az NVIDIA megpróbál javítani versenyhelyzetén, ugyanakkor láthatóan nagy bajban van a piac alsókategóriájától egészen a felső-közép kategóriáig. Az elmúlt hetekben meglépett drasztikus árcsökkentések, és az új modellek nagyot dobtak a GeForce család versenyképességén, úgy tűnik ugyanakkor, abszolút értelemben a Radeon HD-k minden árszegmensben jobb vételnek bizonyulnak, beleértve a csúcskategóriát is, melyet a Radeonokkal jelenleg CrossFire révén lehet elérni: a GeForce 9500 GT-nél a Radeon HD 3850, a 9800-as modelleknél a 4850, míg a GTX 260 és GTX 280-aknál a 4870 és CrossFire megoldások kínálnak jobb ár-teljesítmény mutatót. Az asztali bővítőkártyák mellett az NVIDIA a notebookokért támadást indított, mégpedig nagyobb teljesítményű, kifejezetten intenzív 3D-gyorsítást igénylő játékok számára kínál új mobil chipeket. Az öt új termékkel az NVIDIA teljesen lefedi a mobil piacot, ugyanis a korábbi 9600M 9500M sorozatokat a 9700M GT és 9700 GTS egészítették ki a közép- és felsőközép kategóriában, míg a felső- és csúcskategóriát a 9800M GT, GTS és GTX fedik le, melyek sorrendben rendre 32, 48, 64, 96 és 112 feldolgozóegységgel bírnak. Az NVIDIA hátrányba került ugyan asztalon, a notebookok terén ugyanakkor továbbra is őrzi fölényét, melyet az új mobil GeForce sorozatokkal megerősített átmenetileg, míg az AMD nem dobja piacra a 4800-as család mobil változatait.

Az AMD nagyjából egy hónapja, június végén mutatta be RV770 kódnévre hallgató új fejlesztését, mely felborította a grafikus processzorok piacán kialakult status quót. A 956 millió tranzisztort integráló chip a TSMC ugyanazon 55 nanométeres eljárásán készül, számítási erőforrásai pedig két és félszerese elődjének, aminek eredményeként tipikusan másfél-kétszer erősebb annál alacsonyabb órajele ellenére is. Az NVIDIA számára az igazán kellemetlen az, hogy az RV770 teljesítményéhez képest gazdaságosabban termelhető saját chipjeinél, legyen szó a korábbi G90-es, vagy az új GT200-as architektúra implementációiról. Az AMD ezt khiasználva igen agresszív árazásba kezdett, aminek következtében az NVIDIA drasztikus árcsökkentésekre és pénzügyi figyelmezetetés közzétételére kényszerült.

El precio que ha puesto NVIDIA a la nueva GeForce 9800GT sera menor de 143 Dolares (En USA), y usara 55nm. A parte de eso soportara Hybrid Power pero no 3-Way SLI.

A partir de la foto del GPU-Z podemos ver que NVIDIA utilizara el nucleo G92-A200, revision A2, en la nueva 9800GT. Esta tendra una frecuencia de 600Mhz para el Core, 900Mhz (1800Mhz Efectivos) para la memoria GDDR3, y 1500Mhz para los Shaders.

Segun PCZILLA, NVIDIA seguira usando el bus de 256-Bit como en los anteriores modelos (8800GT/9800GT).

Finalmente, NVIDIA confirma el lanzamiento de la GeForce 9800GT, que se espera que este en el mercado dentro de poco tiempo. El codenamed de la placa sera el D9P-40, igual como el de la 8800GT, esta de mas decir que soporta 512MB GDDR3.

Probablemente tenga menor cantidad de Shaders o simplemente sera un renombramiento como paso con la 8800GS-9600GSO. Tambien sabemos que NVIDIA esta trabajando en el G92 fabricado a 55nm, pero no creemos que este G92 este en la 9800GT.

Tenemos que adivinar si NVIDIA vendera la 8800GT con el cambio de nombre o si realmente se le va a otorgar a esta una frecuencia mayor o un numero mayor de Shaders.

Como si ya no fuera suficiente dolor de cabeza elegir una tarjeta gráfica, NVIDIA lo hará aun más complejo ofreciendo modelos de GeForce 9800GT con procesadores gráficos manufacturados tanto en tecnologia de 55nm como con la actual de 65nm.

Ambas tarjetas tendrán las mismas características, con dos sabores, 512MB de RAM configurados a 975MHz y 256MB a 900MHz y se espera que sean muy similares a las actuales 8800GT, pero con algo más de frecuencia en shaders y procesador gráfico.

La razón para tener dos modelos de tarjeta es sencillamente estratégica. Como sabemos, NVIDIA aun fabrica los procesadores gráficos de sus tarjetas discretas en 65nm y las miniaturización siempre son algo complicadas, especialmente en los rendimientos de manufactura. Por ende, hará una transición en la cual en un momento procesadores de 65 y 55nm co-existirá, para que una vez que 55nm demuestre ser estable de rendimientos productivos, mantener esta ultima solamente.

Lo que NVIDIA sabe y los entusiastas también, es que hay una gran posibilidad de que los modelos de 55nm sean más capaces de escalara en frecuencia, entregando una mayor capacidad de overclock. Esto quiere decir que muchos buscaran estas joyas para incluirlas en sus computadores y así mismo, no seria extraño que más de algún ensamblador las marque como edición especial.

It was unplanned, but after my wife went to bed early (she stretched out on the bed for a minute and then the sandman crept up and mugged her... it was a long week for her) I decided to just log into LOTRO for a few minutes, just to look around.

But once in I was hailed by Skronk and Ula who were also getting reacquainted with the game. They were in the North Downs around Nan Amlug. Since I was near Trestlebridge, I hopped on my new mount and headed out to play with them. Our group consisted of Skronk's captain, Ula's minstrel, and my guardian, Nomu.

We picked up some quests from the area and went out hunting.

High points of being in LOTRO again.

Graphics - Wow, I had forgotten how beautiful Middle-earth can be in LOTRO

Appearance Tab - There is not one, but two appearance tabs in LOTRO, so you can have two outfits on hand. You can see in the picture above Nomu is wearing a bucket hat in his appearance tab in anticipation of the upcoming fishing hobby.

Ambient Sound - Out in the fields the ambient sounds were quite amazing, some of the best I recall hearing in an MMO.

The Founder's Horse - While not as swift as the mounts that can be purchase at level 35, they are both free and faster than walking, which makes travel in the game much easier. All three of us are founders, so we were all able to ride.

General - Skills seem to have been tweaked since we last played together. While still very rusty, we were able to work as a team fairly effectively.

All in all we had a good time. I think we all need some warming up in the game, both to get used to some of its quirks (the UI just is not as responsive as WoW's) and to come up to speed with all the changes that have come into the game since we last played in the fall of 2007.

I will have to keep an eye on a couple things though.

The first is money. Theoretically Nomu should be able to buy a better horse at level 35. However the price, 4 gold and a couple hundred silver, seems way beyond what he will have been able to save by that point. Quest rewards and vendor items off of mobs seem to be barely keeping ahead of the repair bill after an evening in the field. I hope I don't have to start working the auction house just to start making money.

And the other is my video card. I would like to avoid any further video card issues, so I have been turning the fans up and watching the temperature on the 8800GT.

Still, the green fields of Middle-earth seemed very welcoming.

The first thing I did was run the nVidia stability test which would cause the old card to crash within 30 seconds, regardless of card temperature.

The new card ran through a 10 minute pass without issue.

Then I brought up LOTRO, got out my hunter, and played for a little over an hour.

No issues their either. Plus, my hunter hit level 24. Only one more level until he gets his first horse.

So I am all set to play Lord of the Rings Online again.

And a good thing too.

Within the instance group there has been some renewed interest in LOTRO.

Skronk (Potshot) has been back in the game a bit.

Ula has shown some interest in coming back to play now that housing is available.

And I have had the urge to go back for a while now, which is why I have been griping about my video card issue.

And that urge increased when I read that one of the new Book 13 features is fishing!

Fishing!

For no good reason I end up fishing in almost every MMO I play. (There is no fishing in EVE Online... but mining is pretty much the moral equivalent.)

I like that Turbine has declared fishing a "hobby" as opposed to a profession. Although you can cook your fish and eat them if you have the right profession, the true spirit that seems to be in play here is titles and such, always a strong point in LOTRO.

So look for me on the shores of Nen Harn, fishing pole in hand, some day soon.

And, unlike my experiences last year with the x1950 card, I don't have to send them my card first, then wait around for them to finish. Thank you VM!

In a case of "One screenshot is worth 1,000 minutes on hold," my LOTRO screen artifacts picture seemed to be enough, along with a short description I submitted to Velocity Micro via their online support page, for them to RMA the card.

So, if LOTRO locking up and making your screen look like this:

Of course, I only got to the point of asking them for support after I had exhausted all other paths (so you see, my behavior in EVE is part of my flawed personality) I could think of with my system. Now I have to undo some of those as EVE has started abending on me at random points while I am mining or fighting.

Life in the fast lane I guess.

But at least I might be able to get LOTRO up an stable in time for the 1 year anniversary of it going live.

It seems to be accelerated by my going into town, but it happens eventually out in the field as well. The colors vary, but the net result is the same, the game locks up and I have to restart my system to do anything.

Is anybody else having a similar issue?

El famoso overclockero Kinc se hizo de una VGA Asus HD3850X3 Trinity, la misma de la que les contamos hace 2 dias. Aunque teníamos fotos y sabíamos que la tarjeta poseía 3 GPUs RV670 más 3 bancos de memoria de 512MB cada uno, el resto de los detalles nos era desconocido, hasta ahora.

Pues bien, hoy les podemos contar que los GPU corren a 668Mhz, que las memorias GDDR3 corren a 1656Mhz y que el conjunto overclockea mediante Catalyst Control Center, y sin ninguna refrigeración especial, hasta 769Mhz en GPU y 1053Mhz en memoria (esto es, DDR 2106 Mhz).

En cuanto al rendimiento, la VGA rindió 94.000 puntos en 3DMark03, lo cual es más que lo que ofrece cualquier tarjeta individual en el mercado. De hecho es más que lo rinde un SLI de 8800GT o GTS 512.

El puntaje en 3DMark06 tampoco se quedó atrás: alcanzó los 24900 puntos, lo cual le bastaría para ocupar el primer lugar del ranking CHW, desplazando a arreglos SLI y Crossfire de las tarjetas más poderosas del mercado.

Overall cost me a little less than $900 in parts. But checking a build through AlienWare with the EXACT same specs it would of cost OVER $2500!!! To me this is a HOT Deal! And who doesn't like hot deals. The following week I got a nice BIG box in the mail!

Opening this baby was like christmass morning for a 8 year old to me!!! The case came in a separate box. Everything I ordered and needed for a new pc was here! So I started to unbundle everything a giddy grin on my face.
I was really impressed by all the packaging alone... the pretty colors of the boxes. I tried to stick to a theme... and the theme was... black and blue everything... and stuck with the brand name Nvidia for pretty much everything.

The case came with no instruction manual... but after installing everything I realized you could just go on the Apevia website and download the pdf. manual. Which helped after getting confused about a wire or two.

So after unpacking everything I went straight to work!

I have a friend who works for con edison and he hooked it up with some rubber gloves and a rubber mat they use when they work with extremely high voltage... i just used it to ground my self so i wouldn't give any static electricity to the motherboard or anything to screw it up. I suggest you ground yourself as well before working with a motherboard. Grabbing onto a metal piece of any sort really works as well.

I started of course with the motherboard and installing the CPU I had an intel quad 2.4 ghz ... installing the CPU is pretty simple... just follow lift the hatch place teh CPU in like a jigsaw puzzle and lock it in. Closing the hatch I had to use a little force and it kind of freaked me out that it held on that tight.... but I'm typing this blog on the pc now... so i guess i did it correctly =) AMD CPU's are probably a bit diffrent but all in all should be the same. Just follow the instructions.
The Processor did not come with a fan so I had to buy one seperately ( I bought everything separately so I did not mind at all =) After it was in placed I lined up the fan's screws to the wholes and just... you guessed it... screwed it in! Simple right!? RIGHT!
After admiring my work so far... I contimnued to go ahead and just install the memory cards in place since it's easier to do so with the motherboard out of the case. You want to do everything you can on the motherboard out of the case... makes it much much more convenient!

These are probably the coolest looking memory i've ever seen! Very sleek! I've installed memory before, so this was just a breeze.... probably one of the easiest things to do!

Done! In a matter of seconds! This PC building aint so bad! It's actually kinda fun! WoOT! Next is the main reason for this whole experience...

The 8800GT 512mb Video Card! Placing this thing in was a breeze! After that... I was almost ready to place the motherboard in the Case... But I first started to install the Power Supply in... There was a sale on a 1000watt power supply that I could not resist... unfortunatley this thing was huge and barely fit in my case... i had to remove my top fan for this big-boy to fit in! Thank god I it to fit in period. Make sure your case can fit a power supply or anything you might want to buy for it...BEFORE you buy it!

I then screwed in the spacers for the motherboard... my friend forgot the spacers between the motherboard and the case and he just screwed it in... after a week the mother board short circuit and it died. Very Important!

After Everything is where it's suppose to be I then started plugging the power supply to the motherboard and everything else that needed power and needed some sort of connection... this was probably the most time consuming, and hardest part throughout the whole building process
. After all and all was done... I was finally ready to give my baby life! I connected the power, my speakers, my dual 22" monitors, keyboard and of course mouse.... crossed my fingers and turned it on!!! ...............

NOTHING! SHIT WHAT WENT WRONG!? I got so aggravated and decided i was over tired and needed some rest... as i layed down... and looked over the motherboard manual... I forgot a certain plug to the motherboard!! Plugged it in.... turned it on.... "IT's ALIVE!!!!! IT'SSSSS ALIVE!!! MuHAHAHAAA"

TaDaaa!!!!
So yeah... the feeling you get when it's all said and done... and the ability to say 'you built it' when a friend comes over and says "hay cool computer" and you say "Thanks... I Built it myself".... PRICELESS! =)

La demanda por las tres reinas de NVIDIA para la gama media y media alta, 8800GT, 8800GS y 9600GT, es de lo más saludable, pero hay tanta oferta por parte de tantos fabricantes, que es necesario sacar ventaja de alguna manera.

Nos hemos enterado de que XFX ha decidido distinguirse agresivamente por precio, y rebajará sus modelos. Las versiones estándar bajarán en USD 30 dólares, por lo que en retailers de USA veremos la 8800GT de 512MB a USD 189, la 8800GS de 384MB a USD 120, y la 9600GT a USD 149. Por su parte, la 8800GS pre-overclockeada bajará otros USD 30 ubicándose a USD 140, mientras que la 9600GT overclockeada "sólo" baja USD 20 situándose en USD 179.

Esperemos que las rebajas recorran pronto el canal para verlas reflejadas en tiendas locales.

Hinnoista en ole vieläkään tietoinen, otan siis selvää..

Homma aloitettiin ensin ottamalla pitkähihainen paita pois(jotta emme tuota staattista sähköä) sekä maadoittamalla itsemme koskemalla pistorasiaan kytketyn tietokoneen kotelon metalliin(purimme mahdolliset staattiset varaukset).

Varsinainen kasaus alkoi niin että otimme uuden kotelon pöydälle kyljelleen jolloin on helppo läiskiä osia kiinni.
Ensiksi laitoimme kiinni koteloon kullanväriset kannatusruuvit jotka pitävät emolevyä irti taustalevystä, ja joihin emolevy ruuvataan kiinni.
Kun emolevy oli ruuvattu kiinni kiinnitimme prosessorin. Prosessorin kanta oli 775 joten tässä tapauksessa prossu vain lasketaan kannassa olevaan sopivaan koloon, voimaa ei tarvitse käyttää.

Kun prossun lukitus oli saatu kiinni, laitettiin boxed paketissa mukana tullut siili+tuuletin häkkyrä kiinni, tai ainakin yritettiin.
Intelin tässä mallissa mukana tulleessa jäähyssä on aivan naurettava kiinnitysmekanismi, siis aivan surkea. Siilin ja tuulettimen kiinnittämiseksi joutuu niitä painamaan todella kovaa emolevyä vasten jotta siilissä olevat pienet muovitapit menisivät emolevyssä olevista rei'istä läpi ja lukittuisivat sinne..
Lopulta saimme siilin kiinni..

Sitten kiinnitimme muistit, kiintolevyt,SATA- ja virtajohdot, näytönohjaimen,kotelon liittimet, yms yms..

Lopulta tarkistelimme kokoonpanoa ja totesimme että se on nyt valmis testattavaksi, joten kytkimme kiinni virtakaapelin, näytön ja näppäimistön jotta pääsemme BIOS:iin tarkistelemaan esim. prosessorin lämpötilaa ettei se vain kohoa liikaa.

Virtanäppäimen painallus, ja kone lähtee käyntiin, mutta kuvaa ei tule. Oikeastaan kone tuskin pääsee edes BIOSiin asti.
Aikamme tutkittuamme ja kokeiltuamme eri kytkentöjä, päätin ottaa prosessorin esiin ja tarkistaa esim lämpiääkö se yhtään.
Prosessori oli aivan kylmä ja kun nostin sen pois kannasta niin huomasin että parissa pinnissä oli jotain vikaa:

Niinkuin kuvasta näkee, on yksi pinni hieman poissa linjasta ja toisesta puuttuu kontaktiosa täysin.
Tämä ei voinut aiheutua kasaamisen aikana koska prosessori vain laskettiin kantaan ja olimme erittäin varovaisia osien kanssa.
Kyseessä täytyy olla siis valmistusvirhe. Lopputulos oli se ettemme saaneet koneeseen eloa tuulettimien pyörimistä enempää joten palaamme asiaan heti kun emolevy on viety kauppaan takaisin ja uusi saatu tilalle.

Päivitys:

Nyt saimme 4 päivää myöhemmin uuden emolevyn ja siinä oli kannassa pinnit kunnossa joten uusi emo kiinni ja testaamaan!
Systeemi toimii (Ei ollut prosessori mennyt rikki viallisen emon takia..) ja ensiksi mentiin BIOSiin tarkistamaan jottei prosessorin lämmöt nouse liikaa eli että meillä on cooleri kunnolla kiinni, tuosta intelin kiinnityksestä kun ei aina tiedä..

Lämpötilat näytti 31 prosessorille ja 30 emolevylle joten kaikki on kunnossa. Seuraavaksi asennettiin Windows XP:n puhdas asennus eli formatoimme kiintolevyn ja asensimme siihen XP:n. Seuraavana oli sitten jäätävä laitteistoajurien ja pakollisten ohjelmien asentaminen, jonka jälkeen olimme valmiit kokeilemaan ensimmäistä peliä uudella kokoonpanolla. Ehdotin kaverille Crysistä mutta hän mieluummin asensi Call of duty 4:n. Pelistä laitettiin grafiikat täysille ja hyvin näytti pyörivän.

Siinäpä se. Nyt on kaverilla uusi kone jolla voi pelata uusimpia ja tuleviakin pelejä hyvilläkin grafiikka-asetuksilla.
Lopuksi voin sanoa että uuden raudan kokoonpano jätti sellaiset fiilikset että ompa pakko kohta omakin kone päivittää ihan kokonaan uusilla osilla.
Joten pian saattaa olla luvassa jälleen uusi kasausartikkeli...
