It will be built on the 8C platform which, unlike the BAT 11, is absolutely gorgeous.

iShoe rose to prominence as the winner of the 2008 8th Continent Business Plan Competition for bringing space technology down to Earth. iShoe builds on NASA-developed technology originally created to help detect balance problems in astronauts returning from space. Theresa Tribble from Harvard University, and Erez Lieberman from the Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Division of Health Science and Technology, created the iShoe insole to detect balance disorders for everyday people, potentially preventing serious falls. Besides tracking balance inequities, iShoe's technology serves an even greater purpose for the elderly or disabled - the ability to automatically signal a caregiver in case of an accident such as a fall or slip.

According to Burke Fort, director of the 8th Continent Project, "iShoe represents an important component to the Space 2.0 equation - taking existing space derived technology developed by NASA and making it viable for emerging, Earth-based applications."

Lo sterzo appare infatti legnoso e il reparto sospensivo troppo soggetto al rollio. Clarkson non manca di accanirsi persino contro il posizionamento della pedaliera.

Tuttavia la passionalità dell’auto è tale che Jeremy sembra non curarsi dei deficit dinamici. “Comprare la 8C per le sue qualità dinamiche sarebbe come comprare un film porno per la sua trama”. Secondo il giornalista inglese tuttavia è una delle pochissime auto sulla faccia del pianeta ad avere un cuore: nonostante alcuni difetti tecnico/qualitativi quella che Alfa-Romeo ha costruito è “puro cuore” in ogni centimetro della sua splendida carrozzeria. La prova termina col consueto giro in pista ad opera del pilota mascherato. A complicare le cose per la 8C ci si mette anche la pioggia, ed il risultato finale del cronometro lascia l’amaro in bocca.

For all of you who were wondering what happened to the popular Fiat owned Alpha Romeo, you may be interested in knowing that it is on it's way back to the US in the form of the 8C Competizione. Only this time it is on steroids (these bad boys pack a 450 hp V-8 and top out at 190 mph) and wearing a lot more bling. Plans are to have about 90 to 100 of the shipped Stateside for about $250,000 a pop. Chump change, I know. However for those of you who do have cash like that to throw at this Italian legend, you will have to wait. Rumor is that all of them are already spoken for. As for the rest of us, we will have to wait for the more affordable models - Brera, Junior, and C Segment Hatchback- to arrive in 2010.

First, here is the new BMW 2009 7 series. What I like is that it's hitting the U.S. in both the 750il V8 version and a new diesel called the 730d. I like that they cleaned up the iDrive system a bit and added a cool set of media screens for the back seat passengers. What I don't like in anyway is the styling. I think BMW styling "Post Chris Bangle" is very hit or miss. I like somethings about the look. The body itself looks very streamlined as apposed to the current model which looks bloated. The new headlights are carrying on the awesomeness of the 3 series (hopefully the 5 series will be getting the benefits of that look soon). I am not a fan of the ever increasing size of the kidney grill though. There is no doubt that it grows on me every time I see it. And who knows maybe in a couple of weeks I'll like it. Lets look on the bright side, at least it doesn't look like the X6. I am still struggling to understand that car.

 

I know I have said this before, but I am really psyched about Alfa Romeo coming back to the U.S. I can't love this company enough. The 8C Competizone is in my opinion the nicest looking Italian sports car. It's built off the dated Maserati chassis but Alfa is planning a new one and is lobbying FIAT (Owner of both Alfa and Ferrari) to let them use the Ferrari California as the base. Supposedly they were to be sold out of Maserati dealerships, however FIAT announced recently that they are partnering with BMW to build a new small car platform that would eventually become the new MINI and Alfa cars in the U.S. BMW in turn is allowing MINI dealerships the option of selling Alfa Romeo as well. Exciting times for Beamer and Alfa.

Y tras crear la máquina perfecta, el séptimo día se descansó y se llamó Domingo. No, no me malinterpretéis. Eso es lo que debieron sentir los diseñadores del 8C Competizione cuando descapotaron a su bella criatura. Tras recibir el encargo de realizar un espectacular deportivo, se dio la verificación al nuevo y exclusivo proyecto. Nueva, porque sólo había un modelo descapotable en la gama Alfa Romeo –el Spider, no con mucho éxito comercial- y exclusivo porque, al igual que el modelo cerrado, se producirán 500 unidades con un precio que puede sobrepasar los 200.000 euros. La capota que permite lucirnos -aunque sea en nuestra imaginación- es de lona de dos capas con accionamiento eléctrico. El motor que mueve esta joya es otra preciosidad: el V8 que Ferrari comparte con Maserati. Tiene una cilindrada de 4.5 litros que desarrolla 450 caballos, lo que le permite conseguir una velocidad máxima de 300 km/hora y un 0-100 km/hora en 4,5 segundos. El cambio que permite mover este descapotable es un ‘Cambio Corsa’, de procedencia Maserati. Como podéis ver, este coche monta lo mejor de dos italianas conocedoras del ‘savoir faire’ deportivo. Esperemos que en el Salón del Automóvil de Madrid podamos verlo...

Las ‘joint venture’ –desarrollo de modelos comunes con intercambio de información y materiales- de las marcas de coches cada vez están más presentes en los modelos que conducimos por nuestras carreteras. Incluso en nuestra amada Ferrari se da esta circunstancia: si bien los Maserati utilizan parte de la tecnología de la ‘Scuderia’, Alfa Romeo ha utilizado bastantes elementos para realizar su deportivo de carreras. El 8C Competizione es un auténtico biplaza con rasgos en su diseño de los míticos Alfas que hicieron grande a esta marca pero que, debido a los problemas financieros de la casa madre –Fiat-, se ha visto perjudicada por cierto ostracismo en su imagen. Pero ahora que las cosas van bien, en Alfa Romeo no lo dudaron ni un momento y se lanzaron a desarrollar un auténtico deportivo al alcance de muy pocos: a parte de que se lanzaron 500 unidades, el precio sobrepasa los 170.000 euros. Ahí es nada. Su joya está bajo el capó: un V8 de 4.5 litros que desarrolla la nada despreciable cifra de 450 caballos. La transmisión, como en todo buen deportivo, se realiza a las ruedas posteriores mediante un cambio automático de seis velocidades –‘Cambio Corsa’-.

Algún día me gustaría, no ya poseer uno, sino poder darme algunas vueltas con uno en un circuito... ¿quién ha dicho que no se pueda soñar?

Wolfgang Egger. He's the one to blame. It's his fault for designing a car you would want to live in after selling your house. Your partner would understand and the kids of course. Especially if it was a red one. They look so damn good in that colour. Why is it that Ferrari and Alfa have a particular affinity with the fiery hue? Mind you, the 8C can also be painted black or yellow and it still looks totally brilliant! The problem is that only 500 of these stunners will be leaving Modena and they are getting snapped-up like chicken drumsticks in a pool of crocodiles. Allocations have been made on a country-by-country basis and here in the UK we understand that no more than 41 examples will be available. For the record this car can scorch to 60 mph in 4 seconds and where allowed (i.e. nowhere except a racetrack) will max out at 180 mph. This is all down to a modifed version of Maserati's V8 producing 450 galloping stallions of pulling power (GSPP) matched to a lightning-fast pair of paddle-shift controls located behind the steering-wheel. Oh and it's made of carbon-fibre. Nice one Wolfgang! By the way, this gentleman is now head of design at Audi. Splendid Italian Exotic – That’s what I would call this Alfa Romeo 8C. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, this beauty will be one of the rarest around. That’s because only 500 of this beautiful shall be made by Alfa Romeo.

Look it once you may not like it, look at it again you will love the lines. That’s how I took this. At first shot it didn’t seem good enough, but a second eye detailing the car got me hooked on this.

They're just the best cars on the planet, no argument there. As far as I'm concerned not even a Ferrari is as exciting as an Alfa to drive.

Last year Alfa announced the 8C Competizione. Oh so beautiful. Oh so unaffordable. Alfa said they were going to build only 500. Just a couple of months ago a full page AD appeared on The Economist in which Alfa announced that all 500 cars had been sold, before actually building them.

This year at the Geneva motor show Alfa presented the spider version of the 8C Competizione. Now all I have to do is find $200,000  to buy one!

It’s almost show time in Geneva as the car world descends in time for Europe’s most important motor show.

The show opens its doors March 6, and Auto Trader will be there to report on all the news from the event, so be sure to check back.

Exciting cars including the poster-pin-up Alfa Romeo 8C Spider and a special edition Bugatti Veyron are going to be there. Most manufacturers will be revealing new cars.

La notizia di una concept di Bertone a Ginevra sembra giungere fuori tempo, dopo le notizie dei giorni scorsi in merito alla alla cessione ed al fallimento dell’azienda. Worldcarfans.com pubblica un disegno di questo prototipo di stile, chiamato BAT 11 in onore degli storici esemplari precedenti Bat 5, Bat 7 e Bat 9, tutti su base Alfa Romeo. La numero 11 si dovrebbe basare sulla Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, ma in realtà si tratterebbe soltanto di un modello a dimensioni naturali non funzionante. Attendiamo conferme circa la presenza di Bertone al salone di Ginevra, viste le recenti conferme e smentite, si trattarebbe della prima assenza dopo 50 anni.
