VITAL STATISTICS
ALBUM: Ace Of Spades
BAND: Motorhead
MEMBERS: Lemmy Kilmister (Vocals, Bass) ,

VITAL STATISTICS

ALBUM: Ace Of Spades

BAND: Motorhead

MEMBERS: Lemmy Kilmister (Vocals, Bass) , 'Fast' Eddie Clark(Guitar) , Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor (Drums)

RELEASE: 1980

GENRE: Traditional Heavy Metal although they can be considered the forerunners to Speed/Thrash Metal.

FULL-LENGTH: 36:42

LABEL: Bronze Records (Originally)

It's only fitting that my first review is of a classic heavy metal album, and one I've grown to like quite a bit. This is probably Motorhead's most popular album and most likely the best. The album is the 4th by the British band which went on to become one of the top album's of that year. Now for the in-depth review.

1. ACE OF SPADES (2:49)

VOCALS- The immortal title track is lead by Lemmy at his finest. The Lyrics are composed of a gambling theme lead by the iconic Ace Of Spades. For the most part the lyrics are short, sharp and have a good rhythm which is why this song seems to stand out from the album. Lemmy displays his awesome gravelly voice which has earned him so much recognition from the metal fraternity and my god is it good in this track.

Lyrics - 7.5

Delivery - 9.0

Composition - 8.5

GUITAR- 'Fast' Eddie Clark gives a solid performance in this track. His solo and couple of slight breakdowns are strong yet subtle, not over the top, but few none the less. The basic rhythm of the song is fast and rough which is fantastic. The song, while balanced seems suited to the guitar.

Melody - 6.5

Rhythm - 8.0

Composition - 9.0

BASS- Probably Lemmy's strongest performance on this album and it's right off the bat. He keeps the tempo going and really drives the song. He plays just and fast and rough as 'Fast' Eddie.

Rhythm - 7.5

Composition - 8.0

DRUMS- Phil is in some incredible form during this album and this song demonstrates it perfectly. He keeps the fast rhythm impeccably and drives it along with Lemmy.

Rhythm - 8.0

Composition - 8.0

VOCALS - 25/30

GUITAR - 23.5/30

BASS - 15.5/20

DRUMS - 16.5/20

TOTAL - 80.5

2 LOVE ME LIKE A REPTILE (3:23)

VOCALS- The lyrics deal with snake love of some kind, not really into that. The song doesn't quite flow as well as the previous song for example. Its lyrics are longer and more obscure with a different tempo to the song. In saying that, Lemmy still performs strongly, making the lyrics likeable.

Lyrics - 5.5

Delivery - 7.5

Composition - 5.5

GUITAR- A strong showing by Clark. The rhythm is nicely played with a catchy and powerful riff. The solo is also very strong with a nice outro. For the most part, the song is guitar driven.

Melody - 8.0

Rhythm - 7.5

Composition - 6.5

BASS- Lemmy plays solidly, with an ok drive.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.5

DRUM- Phil plays with the same solidity as Lemmy. Good work overall.

Rhythm - 6.5

Composition - 7.0

VOCALS - 18.5/30

GUITAR - 22/30

BASS - 12.5/20

DRUMS - 13.5/20

TOTAL - 66

3. SHOOT YOU IN THE BACK (2:39)

VOCALS- This song gives an explanation to the influences of Motorhead, especially the album cover. The Western theme in the lyrics are decent, as well as the delivery and composition.

Lyrics - 6.0

Delivery - 6.5

Composition - 7.0

GUITAR- Decent guitar work during this song. It does fit the other components well though.

Melody - 6.0

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

BASS- Lemmy lowest point on the album. The bass doesn't stand out during the track and feels like it needed more emphasis.

Rhythm - 5.0

Composition - 5.5

DRUMS- The strongest part of this track. Phil outlays some good fills and plays with a slowish tempo but drives well on the whole.

Rhythm - 7.0

Composition - 6.0

VOCALS - 20.5/30

GUITAR - 18/30

BASS - 10.5/20

DRUMS - 13/20

TOTAL - 62

4. LIVE TO WIN (3:37)

VOCALS- By this song you start to see a trend in the vocals. They rhyme and they follow a similar tempo. The lyrics and structure are pretty basic. Thank god for Lemmy who keeps making the songs solid.

Lyrics - 5.5

Delivery - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

GUITAR- Decent rhythm work from Clark. What makes the song stand out is the second solo which is very good.

Melody - 7.0

Rhythm - 6.5

Composition - 6.0

BASS- Fantastic work by Lemmy during this song. The bass intro is very solid and the bassline as a whole is very good. The bass drives the song perfectly.

Rhythm - 7.0

Composition - 8.0

DRUMS- Phil works a nice tempo with some ok technique and drive, but is overshadowed by Lemmy's bass work.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

VOCALS - 17.5/30

GUITAR - 19.5/30

BASS - 15/20

DRUMS - 12/20

TOTAL - 64

5. FAST AND LOOSE (3:22)

VOCALS- Some very good work here by the band. The lyrics delve into the realm so often used, youth. Difference being that the lyrics are quite energetic. An overall strong performance.

Lyrics - 8.0

Delivery - 8.0

Composition - 7.5

GUITAR- 'Fast' Eddie is at it again. A great riff with nice tempo. The solo is fairly strong but the riff is where it's at for this track

Melody - 6.5

Rhythm - 8.0

Composition - 7.5

BASS- Unfortunately, Lemmy only puts in a decent performance. The bassline is ok and he drives well enough, but being a bassist myself, I prefer to see a bit more emphasis.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

DRUMS- The drums have a nice tempo in this song with a great beat. Phil shows some real good technique during the track. He follows the guitar quite well and is the primary drive for the song.

Rhythm - 7.5

Composition - 7.0

VOCALS - 23.5/30

GUITAR - 22/30

BASS - 12/20

DRUMS - 14.5/20

TOTAL - 72

6. (WE ARE) THE ROADCREW (3:12)

VOCALS- This is a song that a strangely like. Seems to be a ode to the roadcrews of music. The lyrics are short and repetitious, and as always Lemmy deals out a good performance.

Lyrics - 7.0

Delivery - 6.5

Composition - 7.5

GUITAR- Some powerful guitar work in this song. The Tempo is the winner here because the riff is pretty basic but the breakdowns are quite good with a effects-driven solo. The track is composed well.

Melody - 7.0

Rhythm - 7.0

Composition - 7.0

BASS- Very similar to the guitar. Basic bassline but with a great rhythm and tempo which helps to drive the song.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.5

DRUMS- Solid work here with a strong drive.

Rhythm - 7.0

Composition - 6.5

VOCALS - 21/30

GUITAR - 21/30

BASS - 12.5/20

DRUMS - 13.5/20

TOTAL - 68

7. FIRE FIRE (2:44)

VOCALS- Lemmy performs solidly, as usual. A fire theme which is pretty basic to be truthful. Don't like the backup singing during this track.

Lyrics - 6.0

Delivery - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

GUITAR- Decent work by Clark. The riff is fairly ok but it does have a nice rhythm. Clark does perform a very nice solo during.

Melody - 7.5

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

BASS- Not the best work here by Lemmy. Solid rhythm but a basic line.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 5.5

DRUMS- Solid work on the drums by the 'Philthy Animal'. He warms up quite a bit at the end.

Rhythm - 6.5

Composition - 6.0

VOCALS - 18/30

GUITAR - 19.5/30

BASS - 11.5/20

DRUMS - 12.5/20

TOTAL - 61.5

8. JAILBAIT (3:33)

VOCALS- Another youth inspired song. Lemmy does his usual strong work. The track has a good rhythm and is fairly short lyrically. Solid work.

Lyrics - 6.5

Delivery - 7.5

Composition - 7.0

GUITAR- One of Clark's strongest efforts. The track has a nice riff, and leads well. The first of the solo's is alright, it's the second that is classic Motorhead.

Melody - 7.5

Rhythm - 7.0

Composition - 7.0

BASS- Another ok bassline , doesn't stick out again.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 5.5

DRUMS- Nice tempo and drive. Phil does really strongly during the song. Nice little bit of double kick during the solo.

Rhythm - 7.5

Composition - 6.5

VOCALS - 21/30

GUITAR - 21.5/30

BASS - 11.5/20

DRUMS - 14/20

TOTAL - 68

9. DANCE (2:38)

VOCALS- Probably the worst song vocally on this song. Lemmy doesn't seem to be into it and it just seems bland.

Lyrics -4.5

Delivery - 5.5

Composition - 5.0

GUITAR- This is actually a strong guitar track. It has a decent riff and fantastic solo's make the song very listenable. It saves the song. There is drop-offs in the verses though.

Melody - 8.5

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

BASS- Solid bassline that drives well enough.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.5

DRUMS- OK drum work with a decent tempo.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 5.5

VOCALS - 15/30

GUITAR - 20.5/30

BASS - 12.5/20

DRUMS - 11.5/20

TOTAL - 59.5

10. BITE THE BULLET (1:38)

VOCALS- Solid vocals by Lemmy. Very short though.

Lyrics -6.5

Delivery - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

GUITAR- Strong riff and a decent small solo but is outshone by Lemmy on the bass.

Melody - 6.5

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 5.5

BASS- Lemmy does really well on this track. The bassline is strong and follows the riff nicely. He dominates the song for the most part.

Rhythm - 7.5

Composition - 7.5

DRUMS- Solid work on the drums as usual. Nice tempo for a short song.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.5

VOCALS - 18.5/30

GUITAR - 17.5/30

BASS - 15/20

DRUMS - 12.5/20

TOTAL - 63.5

11. THE CHASE IS BETTER THAN THE CATCH (4:18)

VOCALS- A sex based song. It's pretty slow for Motorhead but strong nonetheless.

Lyrics -7.0

Delivery - 7.0

Composition - 6.5

GUITAR- Once again, Clark deals out a decent riff with a nice tempo. A strong solo is present as always and a nice outro ends the song.

Melody - 7.0

Rhythm - 7.0

Composition - 6.5

BASS- Lemmy does really quite well on this song again. He even manages to show some deviation in the verses. He drives the song pretty well and plays some good stuff during the breakdown.

Rhythm - 8.5

Composition - 6.0

DRUMS- OK drive with a slow tempo. He does alright for the most part.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 5.5

VOCALS - 20.5/30

GUITAR - 20.5/30

BASS - 14.5/20

DRUMS - 11.5/20

TOTAL - 66.5

12. THE HAMMER (2:43)

VOCALS- A rhythmic song to end the album. Lemmy dials out a strong performance once again.

Lyrics -6.0

Delivery - 7.0

Composition - 6.5

GUITAR-Clark does an ok job on this track. Pretty basic riff with a ok solo.

Melody - 6.5

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.5

BASS- Basic bassline to finish up. Strong tempo though.

Rhythm - 6.0

Composition - 6.0

DRUMS- Good work by Phil. Fast and strong tempo and shows some great technique on the skins.

Rhythm - 7.0

Composition - 7.0

VOCALS - 19.5/30

GUITAR - 18.5/30

BASS - 12/20

DRUMS - 14/20

TOTAL - 64

ALBUM VERDICT-

A very strong album. All songs are solid perhaps possibly one. The album's best is obviously the title track, that being Ace of Spades and by a fair way. Overall, I give the album a solid score that other albums can try to match up to. I did modify the score slightly due to it's legendary status but it's still a classic album that cannot be underestimated.

OVERALL- 71

STATISTICS

VOCAL SCORE- 238.5/360 (66%)

GUITAR SCORE- 244/360 (67%)

BASS SCORE- 155/240 (64%)

DRUM SCORE- 159/240 (66%)

Motorhead - Wiltern Theatre : April 1, 2005

30th Anniversary Spectacular

***

This is the first of a five-part series I'm doing this week, featuring shots that I took while being on the stage with bands. Each day I will add a new band and a new photo.

***

This shot is from Motorhead's 30th Anniversary Show. As it approached, I could feel the energy and enthusiasm building within the music community. Everybody and their mother had to be at this show. The whole hard-rock community wanted to pay respect to one of the most influential bands of all time. The celeb list included rockers like Motorhead alumni Phil "Philthy Animal: Taylor, FooFighter's Dave Grohl, Ronnie James Dio, Slayer's Kerry King, WWE wrestlers Tripple H and Chris Jericho, as well as comedian/actor Eugene Levy.

I was not only fired up to see such a big show, but the band had hired me to shoot the entire set and get as many backstage and dressing room shots as I could. My day was going great. During some down time at soundcheck, Lemmy really enjoyed looking through a book I'd brought along, The Encyclopedia Of Metal. We had some laughs, but I thought I for sure was going to have an asthma attack breathing in all of Lemmy's second hand smoke.

With all of the people, personalities, egos and the pressure of a fast-approaching live gig, things rarely go smoothly from start to finish without at least one major problem. This time it was with the venue. The Wiltern Theatre has a ridiculous photo policy and won't allow any photographers in their barricade/photo pit directly in front of the stage. We were told that there was no way I could shoot from the pit as I would be a fire hazzard. What a lame excuse.

Motorhead's team blew their lid when they were told that I had to shoot 100 feet from the stage. They started screaming that I was with the band and they want me shooting the whole show - up front, up close - as that is why they hired me. The venue's management then claimed that they would allow me to shoot in pit if Motorhead agreed to pay the venue a $1,200 gee. What a joke. Suddenly, for $1,200 I wasn't a fire hazzard. At that moment I got a sick feeling in my stomach, it looked like I was not going to be shooting this legendary show at all.

Then Motorhead's team told the club, "Fine, Kevin will not be in your fucking pit. He will be with us, all night." And they left it at that. Before I knew it, I was pulled back into the dressing room with the band and told to stick with them and jump on the stage with them the moment they do. The house went dark and the audience roared as Triple H took the mic to introduce the band. A stage manager wielding a flashlight led us through a dark corridor and out onto the stage as the crowd went berserk. I can still feel that hit of adrenaline to this day.

... And that is, the Ace of Spades.

You know, I am not a card player and I have never developed any liking towards cards. But for some reason I have always been fascinated by the Ace of Spades, and you might have noticed that from old posts of mine.

The thing is that I have always thought that the Ace of Spades symbolizes luck, but I was wrong. Apparently it is the sign of death. The Ace of Spades is the Death Card.

There are a lot of stories about people pulling the Ace of Spades out the deck, and soon after they simply die. Perhaps the most famous one is the death of Metallica's former bass player, Cliff Burton. The story says that the night Cliff died, he and Kirk Hammett (Metallica's lead guitarist) drew cards to decide where to sleep. Cliff picked the Ace of Spades and won, so he chose Hammett's bed and ended up flying through the window when the tour bus drifted. Scary!

I am not a firm believer of cards and luck and all of that. But it is a bit surprising that I like something that symbolizes the greatest fear of all.

Or maybe I am just a bit down. Have a nice one.

(Nota personale: lo so!

25. Money For Nothing - Dire Straits (1984)

24. Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor (1982)

Tra di esse: "Eye of the tiger" (Rocky IV) e "The moment of Truth" (Karate kid - Per vincere domani).

21. Give It Away - Red Hot Chili Peppers (1991)

20. Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf (1968 )

19. 7 Nation Army - The White Stripes (2003)

18. My Generation - The Who (1965)

17. Highway to Hell - AC/DC (1979)

16. Wake Up - Rage Against The Machine (1992)

15. Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin (1970)

14. Back In Black - AC/DC (1980)

13. Johnny Be Good - Chuck Berry (1958 )

Memorabilia: il brano "Johnny Be Good" è in viaggio sulla Voyager I, la sua canzone "You Never Can Tell", qui, fa parte del film Pulp Fiction.)

12. Walk - Pantera (1992)

11. Run To The Hills - Iron Maiden (1982)

10. Welcome To The Jungle - Guns N Roses (1987)

(Note personali: gruppo hard & heavy statunitense, formatosi a Los Angeles nel 1985.

9. Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers (1992)

8. Enter Sandman - Metallica (1991)

7. Ace Of Spades - Motörhead (1980)

6. Paradise City - Guns N Roses (1987)

5. Sweet Child O Mine - Guns N Roses (1987)

4. Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix (1967)

(Nota personale: Jimi Hendrix in pieno periodo psichedelico)

3. Walk This Way - Aerosmith (1975)

2. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (1991)

Il successo mondiale arriva con l'album del 1991 "Nevermind" che contiene pezzi come "Smells like teen spirit", "Come as you are", qui, e "Lithium", qui. The man who sold the world", qui.

1. Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple (1973)

As if we needed more proof that Lemmy is one of the biggest badasses alive, AT&T has a new ad referencing MOTÖRHEAD. The band is not featured on the commercial, nor is the actual version of one of their songs, although the subject does sing a bit of "Ace of Spades". It's nothing special, but at least we aren't getting another mundane indie artist.

Yes that's right. He still refuses to leave the rap game a lone. He still wants to drop albums. He still feels like he's got something to prove.

What's left for Jay to say?

READ

UPDATE:

According to a representative Jay will NOT be releasing a new album.

Now this has become a pattern with Jay. He gets his cronies to leak information (e.g. stepping down as Def Jam President), causes a stir, then promptly denies the stories.

Then weeks/months down the line instructs his publicist to release a statement informing us, the little people, that the stories he denied several weeks/months ago were in fact TRUE!

Don't be surprised if by next month its confirmed by the aging rapper that he will be dropping a new album called 'The Blueprint 3' in the summer.

While I agree that Ace of Spades is a toe-tapping, head-banging little ditty, I prefer something a little more... pistachio.

Your neat thing today is probably the best Motörhead song of all time, off the 1916 album, No Voices in the Sky. (And no, Lemmy doesn't have a sore throat. That's how he sings all the time)

Been a bad day..

Bello dai..

"The ace of spades!"

P.S. : Bravo Dick, continua così!

This is an extra old interview of J.D.'s show called Cuttin' Up that was on ESPN2. I think this episode is from 2004, seeing as it's right before the Unfinished Business (Best of Both Worlds) tour, as he refers to (bringing R. Kelly out at the) Madison Square Garden being a hit. J.D. also asks Jay about rumors of him wanting to act, refers to the other shaetan, Puff doing some shit on Broadway... running Marathons... Apparently J.D. was the first one to know about the fuckfest that was to be the Unfinished Business tour.

And what's funny is that J.D. is on here trying to poke at Jay not rapping anymore, or about how transparent that claim is. It's funny that it's the same guy that has Jay doing all this funny shit, including inventing a Champagne brand, rushing out an (amazing) album, and some wack promotional shit. But nah, this is a dope interview. If you wanna hear more Jay(if possible), be on the lookout for Jay-Z Nation [||], a state i'd like to live in (and govern) had it not sounded so weird.

I'm a human being though.

Friday afternoon, I cycled back home and after a cough and a splutter, went off to meet Frank in the local which was stuffed full of no-necked rugby types (again) baying at a selection of massive flat screens featuring more no-necked rugby types deliberately hurting themselves in an orgy of masochistic machismo. We couldn’t be fucked to deal with it so opted instead for the rather limp bar over the road and sunk a few lagers instead.

I returned home and had a few more cans in front of the TV and hit the sack a little later than I intended. I woke on the Saturday morning in good time and prepared myself for the trip ahead by having no less that two kippers and about 4 cups of tea. And toast. As is the custom Myfwt was late but at least when she arrived she was actually ready to go. I’ve found that women require at least an hour more time than men to prepare themselves for an excursion, even if its to take the fucking rubbish out. We were already an hour behind when we set off, of course, it was a Saturday so the roads were solid with metal and it took us almost 2 hours to hit the M1. At the first set of services, Newport fucking Pagnell we stopped and gathered together food and fags and carried on our way. This time I took over driving responsibilities in Myfwt car, I was rather keen we got to our destination before Sunday so I gave it my plate of meat. We arrived at the Huddersfield junction some 3 hours later in, remarkably, very clement weather. By Yorkshire standards it was blistering.

I’d arranged to meet Charlie at the car park of Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We didn’t have enough time to have a meander; I followed Charlie in his car through the glorious Yorkshire countryside at some pace. The road surfaces aren’t really up to the standard one expects from London, the up t’North people haven’t had roads for very long, or cars, because they’re poor, bless, so well done to them for at least making an effort. Bravo.

Actually, driving the up t‘North lanes was more like rallying and ironically I thought of Colin McRae, probably just at the very moment he was screaming towards his death in his chopper.

Unlike most Yorkshires, Charlie and his family have a rather large swanky flat; it has running water and central heating and even a loo, inside! We greeted Charlie’s wife, Lisa and 3-year-old son called Winkie, who’d just woken up, and all had a nice cup of Yorkshire tea. Charlie’s mum and dad popped by to pick up Winkie because us adults had some adult things to do. Feverishly we all got changed into our clobber for the evening’s delights. It was Charlie’s fortieth and the theme for the do (see, I’m even getting the lingo) was ‘vaudeville and burlesque from music hall to dress as you dare’ I was looking rather rakeish in my top hat, Byron-esque lace white shirt, waistcoat, pin-striped slacks and pointy leather boots. Myfwt wore a fetching black dress with fucking stockings, right dick-fattening stuff. She looked delicious. Lisa looked stunning in a green corset and an ostrich feature in her bouffant hair and Charlie, also with top hat, looked like the consummate dandy by employing lots of red silk with a tailored black-suited.

We took a cab to the station and hopped on the train to Leeds. My initial concern of Myfwt attracting a bit too much attention from 'gentlemen' was stymied when I realised the young ladies from Leeds are happy to walk about wearing dental floss to cover their modesty. My own rather unusual dress code was aided and abetted by the company I was keeping, I actually felt extraordinarily comfortable prancing about town, like a tit.

We arrived at the first venue; a fine looking pub with a good selection of proper ales, in fact, Tim Taylors Landlord was on the menu, a personal favourite. I was introduced to a host of similarly attired guests, there were quite a few top hats and ostrich feathers, fur wraps, stockings, tail coats, plus-fours, canes, spats… everyone looked superb. A few faces I knew, a few I didn’t but it mattered not, Myfwt and I fell into the bosom of the guests and we drifted from face to face making our acquaintance.

After a few pints dinner was announced. To my utter joy, and really this was being like a 5 year old at a your best friends party, I was confronted by a 20 foot long table groaning with nothing but yellow food. Pies, both chicken and pork, pasties of all known type, scotch eggs, a dream food when you’re pissed, ham and cheese rolls, crisps, more pies and not a flash of green in sight. Wonderful.

After stuffing our faces to the point of blindness we took a cab to Leeds University to visit a club called The Wendy House and it was here I had my true taste of the north south divide.

I’ll keep this simple because this isn’t a fucking social commentary; it’s one rather bored berk ranting. As we approached the university students were milling about and we were forced to ask them directions. Instead of reticent grunts and/or shrugs we were warmly received by total strangers who took it on themselves to not just walk us to the venue but to converse with us without any agenda. Maybe its because of the way Myfwt and I were dressed (the rest of the party were 30 minutes behind us so we were on our own) but I think it’s just because the up t’North people are simply friendlier. Indeed, the club itself played host to a wide mix of alternative codes, goth, skins, punks, indie kids all cohabiting as one, with all groups dancing at one point to (ironically) Respect by Erasure.

We stayed until it closed, I’ve no idea what time it was and took another cab to a house in Huddersfield where things took a class A turn for the better, the booze flowed mercilessly and things began to get gorgeously vague and strange. There seemed to be a seamless passing from being inebriated to waking up feeling like I’d been reconstructed from sand and poo.

I didn’t mix my drinks but my three companions did, all threw up at some point in the morning though Charlie copped the worse. Fortunately for me the TV had been left on as Charlie who was full of the stuff a few hours earlier, hadn’t been able to sleep so I was able to watch the Grand Prix and then the Moto GP as I made breakfast for Lisa and Myfwt. Charlie joined us shortly after and the girls chatted while Charlie, Winkie and I went off to his bedroom to play with his toys. Turns out Winkie is a Marine Biologist in the making, on his wall are pictures of fishes, hundreds of them. Winkie can name every bloody one, and no, he’s not autistic, weird or precious, just a smashing kid. I asked Charlie how much he’d sell him for but the idiot wasn’t interested.

At about 5-ish I felt I was good to drive, after a fond cheerio Charlie escorted me back to the M1 with Winkie in for the ride and we were off. The journey back was fucking awful, sudden queues nearly saw us buried in the back of two lorries and one of them new mini’s, I left a service station without my lights on and wondered why everyone was flashing me, I got caught by a speed camera as we approached the M25 which didn’t do much for my temper and by the time we arrived home at 10pm both of us were giggling insane but alright enough to watch The Bourne Supremacy which is ace of spades.

Yesterday was spent in bed until midday, we had breakfast, watched Clerks 2 (superb stuff) after a bit of cleaning and washing spent the rest of the day and evening on the couch taking it very slowly indeed, eating at will and having a few stiff drinks to prepare us for today.

Next weekend I’ve a bunch of friends coming to my gaff, I may have to take another Monday off for that too.

Family guy week, a little clip to get you warmed up.

I’m at work. The bloke behind me and the girl opposite him are flirting heavily, it’s utterly nauseating, she’s twee and he’s socially inept, it’s turning my fucking stomach.

I need to focus on this. Calm, calm.

Yesterday afternoon I jumped on the black bitch and shot over to my folks. Father’s day and all that, grasping an offensive card (I like to deface cards designed for other purposes, it has the potential for both hilarity and offence, a winning combo) and one of those things that can inform you if the wall you’re about to drill into is criss-crossed with pipework and high voltage cables, I arrived mid way through the grand prix. I’d seen the start and managed to time my journey between pit stops, due to some creative biking.

My bro arrived along with my getting-heavily-pregnant sister with my brother in law and we all watched the end of the race together in between distasteful remarks about pedometers and the size of my sister’s remarkably massive tits. I may have mentioned before that I am lucky to have the family I do, nonetheless I still managed to make it home in time for most of Big Brothers On the Couch and BB itself, which I’ve politely reviewed in Watch With Mothers, link right. I ate, wrote (didn’t drink)
and went to bed, wishing that my dad hadn’t told me how he and my 100 year old grandfather drank more than 2 bottles (plus ‘a few’ G&T’s) every night when my parents went up to visit him last week. Mum had a couple of Sherries.

On Friday night I hopped on the tube and met James and Harry in a much-visited boozer in Coven Garden. The pub itself is very old but the décor is very unremarkable and doesn’t give any indication of its age, unless one is really looking. The most important thing is that the beer is well conditioned and absurdly cheap for London. You get change from a fiver with two pints. We three chatted about our recent comings and goings until joined by a mutual friend who’s just come back from Iraq following a tour of duty. Being a Captain his role was pretty much confined to a desk, but I learnt much more about the day to day realities of the region than I glean from the press. The Captain knows of my views on Iraq, indeed, most peoples views on the matter, but it didn’t (and shouldn’t) result in my condemnation of him a person. He’s a very brave chap; in fact he’s a bloody good bloke and takes time to explain things to me even when he can see my lefty liberal persona floundering in his face. He’s one more tour of duty and then he’s out for good. What he intends to do for his swansong (and I mean that in the proverbial sense, I really do) is remarkably dangerous, extremely courageous and not for here.

It was a splendid eye popping evening, James and I were suitably drunk when we got on the last tube and like twats we agreed to go back to mine for a smoke and a couple of cans. After much grindcore James left to the backing of the fucking birds at 5-ish or so.

At midday I was up, because I’d not been mixing my drinks I didn’t feel too bad, I’m sure this lack of the debilitating hangover has something to do with not boozing as much? Maybe? I don’t know. Either way I made it to the shops, I’d actually decided not to go but needed to pick up some more beer and breakfast things for the following day.
A few months ago my old mate from Leeds, Chaz had decided that we should see Motorhead at the Royal Festival Hall; he was going to come down and stay the weekend and I’d lay on the hospitality. Sadly this wasn’t meant to be a following a load of confusion on my part, stemming from a forgotten birthday on his, I ended up with 3 tickets, one for Myfwt, one for Jim, and one for me.

Myfwt arrived at 5, all teeth and tits looking stunning, we met Jim in the local boozer at 6-ish and began drinking. Myfwt reverted straight back to type, on the lager, matching me and Jim pint for pint and after a few we caught the tube and arrived at The Royal Festival in between the support act, Selfish Cunt, and The MH.

It was very odd crowd, largely the audience were 40 plus, some quite clearly well to do types with nervous looking spouses, even the usual MH fans were of an age and the subsequent atmosphere really was that of The Royal Festival Hall, coupled with a bit of grease. Badly Drawn Boy passed me in the lobby looking somewhat apprehensive. I was going to say something but decided against it after becoming distracted by his tea cosy headwear, it wouldn’t have been good for him. We managed to squeeze a couple more in before taking our seats (yes, seats) that were shown to us by an old fashioned usher with a torch and all that caper.

Motorhead seemed as weirded out by the situation as the majority of the crowd, they played a sterling set, despite a few tunes I’d not heard, but the whole scenario was so peculiar it was hard to get into the stride of the gig. I refused to sit down, as did some of the other patrons but even seeing seated a handful of the MH audience, nodding their bald heads against the green velvet upholstery, was alienating. Nonetheless, all was cured by a paint stripping rendition of Iron Fist which blew my teeth out. After the gig came to a close, finding its cowboy boot clad feet in the process, we popped to the upper balcony for some more beers. It was lovely up there, a perfect balmy evening over the Thames, people milled below, twinkling boats drifted past, the entire view loaded with landmarks and pretty lights… I went so far to verbally cherishing the moments, which was met with stifled drunken giggles from my two charming companions.

We got back in time to indulge in a couple more beers on the way to the Lebanese Café for some Shwarma. Myfwt tits to my utter amazement had a chicken one which to her genuine surprise she loved. On the way back to the flat someone bought a load of chocolate, no idea why, and we all arrived back pissed up and full of good cheer.

Sunday morning I made breakfast and Jim departed leaving Myfwt and I in the company of Badly Drawn Boy sardonically discussing Motorheads gig on some sofa based TV show and Hot Fuzz. The latter was fucking brilliant, as with Sean of the Dead I was genuinely jealous to have not been involved. The former was just embarrassing. Myfwt left after lunch and I joined Lara for some more gymnastics and puzzles.

Christ, the flirting couple at work are virtually engaging in oral, it’s stomach churning stuff and is preventing me from focussing on the task in hand, I need to have a cigarette immediately before I say something so inappropriate one of us will cry. I fucking hate Monday.

I've lost my dark glasses too.

This is the band we missed, shit, I fucked up here
