David Fisher of Dynamic Architecture has come up with a design concept for a high-rise building like you may not have seen before. A high-rise building with 80 floors, each of which can rotate independantly. Between each floor is a wind turbine to harness wind and convert it into energy used by the building and residents can have their car brought up to their apartment with a special lift for motor vehicles. Each apartment unit will be prefabricated offsite (including electrical, plumbing and finishings) and they claim each floor will take about 3 days to put together - much quicker than conventional building construction.

Nevertheless, let me recapitulate what happened here in the last few days. On Thursday, I have met with Maristella for the first time and we started to discuss possible collaborations. I've also met with Marco who is writing a project proposal and wanted to ask me if I would like to be involved. Apart from these meetings, I concentrated on Avon and fixed quite a few bugs in the In-Memory storage provider to make the jUnit tests of the OM Layer work. In the eveing, I wanted to write a detailed report on my day, but there was a problem with the Internet connection at the Residenza. That's also why the picture below gets only posted today. Apparently, I am not the only one looking for a woman in this town. But I admire the optimism of the guys who stuck that Post-It to the windshield! (The flyer says "Cercasi ragazze" which means "Looking for girls" and the Post-It says "Anch' io!" and "Io pure!!" meaning "Also me!" and "Me too!!".

On Friday, I started to read a paper about the semantics and complexity of SPARQL, the RDF query language. Then, however, I got distracted by a phone call from Michele who offered me his appartment at Piazza Piola which is about 400m from where I work and located directly at a Metro stop. So far, I haven't seen the appartment myself. I hope to do so tomorrow. Nevertheless, I have been crunching numbers the whole Friday afternoon hoping to figure out whether I could afford the place. With the current Euro conversion rate, it would be cost about the same as my flat in Zurich did. But, of course, right now my "salary" is not as it used to be in Zurich. This being said, the price Michele offers is fair considering the area and to me there are also other factors apart from money that could influence my decision. The top two reasons currently being 1) having a my peace and quiet and 2) having the possibility of offering guests visiting me a place to sleep.

On Saturday, I slept long and then went to the main railway station to meet Stefania and Lukas who travelled through Milano on the way back from their holidays. As it had also rained the day before, the city was very grey and wet. It is amazing how little rain it takes to transform Milano into Venezia. About half an hour of intense rain and many streets are totally covered by water which can be 10-20cm deep! As soon as there is enough water and the clouds have vanished, the gondolas start appearing and one can hear the gondolieri sing their song. Together with Stefania and Lukas, I had lunch in a bar and it was good to see some familiar faces and speak some Swiss German on this dismal day. After lunch I accompanied the two back to "Centrale F.S." where the took the train to "Schaffhause". :-) On my way back, I did some shopping in Corso Buenos Aires. Back at the Residenza I had a quiet evening and went to bed very early.

I had planned to go to the FoxTown outlet stores in Mendrisio (CH) on Sunday. For the bus ride there and back again, I had already bought a ticket for 15 Euro. However, when I told Eugenio that I would go there, he offered to take me by car. As a coincidence, Matteo a colleague of Eugenio also wanted to go there because he, too, had never been there. We decided to meet at 2pm at the "Molino Dorino" underground stop. "Molino Dorino" is as far as you can go with the urban ticket... On my way there, I noticed the following sign high above one of the seats.

The sign caught my attention because I found the term "mutilati" ("mutilated") quite crass. Also these reserved seats are as far away from the Metro doors as possible... We managed to get to Mendrisio in half an hour and in another half an hour we also managed to find a parking spot there. Because of the bad weather and the day being Sunday, there were crowds of people shopping at FoxTown. I bought two pairs of jeans and three shirts hoping to fit in better with the Italian style in the future. Back in Milano, Eugenio and I went to a Japanese restaurant in the centre of the city for dinner.

Today, I finished reading the paper I started on Friday and, apart from one proposition, I think I've got the message. In the afternoon, I read Stefano's project proposal for another project that he just got accepted and that would be another opportunity for me to do some work in his group. This second project deals with a new way of searching for information on the Web and it, too, sounds very interesting!

Wie ja schon zu Beginn meiner Ausbildung versprochen wurde, ist es nun endlich so weit und einige von uns fahren in unsere internationalen Standorte und werden dort für ein paar Wochen arbeiten und wohnen. Und genau mit dem wohnen ist das so eine Sache. Nancy ist grad in Paris und hat mir ein paar Bilder ihres Hotelzimmers geschickt. Schaut selber. :)

Und ja, das hinter der Holzplatte ist ein Klo. :)

Wir haben so was von Glück mit unserem Appartment. Was heißt hier eigentlich Appartment. Es ist ist ein Künstler Loft von der Freundin von Nico's Mum. Immer wenn ich die Treppe zu unserem Loft raufgehe, fühle ich mich als wäre ich grade in der Serie Melrose Place. Erinnert ihr euch an die? Nur der Pool in der Mitte fehlt. Sonst ist der Platz genauso und man fühlt sich als würde man hier schon ewig leben. Irgendwie alles wie in einem Traum. Die Wohnung ist offen und hell und man schaut jeden Tag auf einen blauen Himmel, wenn man aus dem Fenster guckt. Im Innenhof gibt's wunderschöne lila Blumen.

Vom Appartment sind es 20 Minuten Joggingweg zum Hafen, wo wahnsinnig viel Yachten stehen. Ich bin mittlerweile schon zweimal dahin gejockt. Das ist die schönste und sonnigste Joggingstrecke, die ich je entlang gejockt bin und ich werde sie noch öfters nutzen.

Man läuft direkt parallel an der Skyline von Oakland and San Francisco vorbei. Ein unglaublicher Ausblick...Emeryville ist glaube ich the best place to be.

Well I just moved into my new apartment in Boston and wow what a fucking amazing place. I was weary at first because it was far from work, but just the sheer hotness of this apartment will make the commute worth it. Here are some pictures.

Did I ever mention how much I hate my job? Travel all over America, living in the lap of luxury, meeting loads of interesting diverse people I would otherwise never have met, yeah my job sucks.

To make all this happen we are selling two properties in Christchurch.

A 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom Apartment in Hagley Avenue its on Trade Me looks good.

We also have one in Nicholls Street in Shirley. It is for sale and for rent! Trade Me CRT

Kate and I have been working hard, to make sure we are doing the right thing. And yes, Parkhill will be a great place for us. I'll post some picks up of this romantic new place!

The places we are selling have absorbed a lot of our time & energy they look good! They are priced very realistically, to suit this market.

We arrive at the bowling ally which is pretty nice reminds me of being back in Michigan, me and joseph put our shoes on while we waited on the girls to arrive then when they got there we all stated to bowl and take pictures cause Ainsley brought her Nikon. We all kinda sucked but had a real good time it was hard to focus sometimes because we have some very rude people who were drunk and loud next to us.

So after the bowling ally its about 1am id say we are hungry and decide to hit up one of my fav's Waffle House where i began to get really tired due to the moving all day and the 2 hours of sleep i had only got the night b4 so after we ate we decided to head back since joseph had to be up in 4 hours for work and i was passing out.

(NEXT DAY)

Ok so after i went home last night and passed out i woke up this mourning walked into my bathroom, walked into the kitchen, then the living room and sat back down on my couch once again. This move is gonna take some getting used too.

Then i decided to go to Barnes And Nobel off of Pellham and sit there and write this blog for you all while looking at this book by and amazing graffiti writer Banksy while i think of ideas for the track im working on.

Trasferitosi nella nuova casa a Nord di Amsterdam, l'emigrante passa la prima notte nella sua stanza zen.

La casa è appena ristrutturata, si sente un forte odore di vernice.

Il mobilio è praticamente assente.

Manca il frigo, la lavatrice non ha l'attacco giusto, niente ferro da stiro.

In soggiorno solo un tavolo e quattro siede.

Nessuna traccia del modem promesso, e come sempre l'emigrante si aggancia al flebile segnale del vicino di casa che, sprovveduto, ha lasciato la wireless non protetta.

In camera solo un letto e un comodino.

Andato a letto alle 11.30, l'emigrante si sveglia alle 2.00 con l'asma: l'odore della vernice è insopportabile, asfissiante, e l'emigrante apre la porta che da sul balcone.

Purtroppo non basta e l'emigrante si alza: non è possibile rimanere a letto e si trasferisce in soggiorno, da dove scrive questo post alle 4 di notte, con la porta del balcone spalancata e un freddo culo (dit is Amsterdam...is niet Tunisi).

Per fortuna la sera prima ha ricevuto un messaggio da parte di un olandese in Amsterdam west che gli propone una camera a 700 euro (contro i 400 della camera zen).

La cosa più grave? E' che l'emigrante scrive di se stesso in terza persona...sarà solo un espediente letterario?

Chris is either overqualified or underqualified for everything that he goes for. He can't get a real job. We can't get a place because of it. My lease is up in June/July. He has to have one by then. I can't handle not knowing where I'm going to live. I can't deal with the concept that things might not work out. I have to hold onto hope.

The fact that we didn't get to do our ceremony fills me with sorrow. I feel like another one of my dreams has been dashed upon the rocks. I almost want to reschedule it for the full moon. I feel like this needs to be done.

I'm not sure what to do.
