After developing the nail art machine to print fingernails, then the next logical question would be 'how to print onto toe nails?'. At first you may think "aah this is easy, just put your foot in the machine instead of your hand". No, is the answer to that thought
as the foot is inherantly different to the hand. Many problems were thus encountered.

Sandra Dean of 'Nail Art Study' remarked "A truly amazing thing would be, if the machine could print onto toe nails"

So, after months of development, a special cradle was developed to hold the foot and the toes in order to keep the toe nails steady whilst printing. Adaption to the software was also required to compensate for the uneven nature of different toe nails. Although everyones foot is different, and the differences can be more dramatic than with hands, the special cradle compensates for the idiosyncrases and adapts.

Fashion now goes a step further, and the world of design and art is now available for your toes.

I was checking my email inbox and came across a PR release that announced Bayer (the maker of aspirin) is releasing a targeted dissolvable pill (Alka- Seltzer Wake-Up Call) to cure the common hangover and help improve digestion. One of the reasons people develop hangovers after alcohol is due to an overload of alcohol in the stomach, and, as a result, the body stops digestion to prevent the excess absorption of alcohol. Not only does our liver get overloaded when we do this to our bodies, but it also causes an inflammatory response, which can take days to calm down.

While alleviating the pain related to these symptoms, it's also important to work with your body to get it back to optimal health. The next time you're facing a hangover the day after, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to take a chewable probiotic. Just like the probiotic pill supplements, in order to be potent, these guys have to refrigerated. One of our favorite brands here at Truth about Probiotics is Natren's Gastro-Ph. It has a delicious strawberry flavor. In fact, one of our employees has a fiancee who relies on the stuff every time he experiences intestinal discomfort following a hangover. The indigestion following a hangover can be downright painful and frustrating, and he loves having the wafers on hand for instant, chewable relief. So, the next time you're dealing with a killer hangover: know the cause and act accordingly. Treat the pain, but also work with your body to get it functioning optimally again.

In addition to probiotics being an all-natural helper for hangover pain, it's a choice that works with your body to promote healing from within. Alka-Seltzer's Wake-Up Call packs some hidden chemical demons (aspartame, among others), which is highly toxic for you. If you don't believe us, check out www.sweetpoison.com Make sure to do your homework when purchasing a new product.

As for Bayer's plan to release a probiotic, we'll be waiting to see if their label makes accurate claims regarding its contents (specific species and strains). In the meantime, go with trusted, established probiotics that have been on the market for 25+ years. Again, the best probiotic supplement we have found is Natren's Healthy Trinity, which packs a powerhouse of 30 billion cfus (colony-forming units) PER CAPSULE! When making a future probiotics purchase, it's important to rely on facts and not marketing hype. As always, stay healthy!

There is a lot of concern about diet and nutrition during pregnancy. One of these concerns is regarding artificial sweeteners and their use during pregnancy. Many women will cut sugar out of their diet, only to replace it with foods and drinks that are artificially sweetened.

These guidelines provide information from research done on the safety of these sweeteners. As with most things in pregnancy, it is always best to consult with your health care provider about what artificial ingredients are safe for you to use during your pregnancy.

What are artificial sweeteners?

Artificial sweeteners are ingredients that add sweetness to foods. Sweeteners are ingredients in soft drinks, desserts, candies and pastries. There are two categories of sweeteners: nutritive (contain calories) and non-nutritive (without calories).

What artificial sweeteners are considered safe during pregnancy?

Nutritive sweeteners (such as table sugar) contain what is called “empty” calories. These additives contribute calories to the diet, but they contain few vitamins or minerals. When used in moderation, nutritive sweeteners are considered safe for consumption during pregnancy assuming they are not contributing to excess weight gain. However, women with carbohydrate intolerance such as gestational diabetes, diabetes mellitus, or insulin resistance need to limit their use of nutritive sweeteners. Nutritive sweeteners include sugars such as sucrose, dextrose, honey, corn sugar, fructose, and maltose. Sugar alcohols are also nutritive sweeteners that are often found in foods labeled as “sugar free.” Technically, sugar alcohols are not sugars, but they do have calories which can be converted into fat. Examples of sugar alcohols include: Sorbitol, Xylitol, Isomalt, Mannitol, and Hydrogenated Starch.

Non-nutritive Sweeteners are added in very small amounts to foods for a significant sweetening effect and have been approved for use in dietetic or reduced calorie foods and beverages. Research is limited on the safety of the use of non-nutritive sweeteners during pregnancy. The following are non-nutritive sweeteners that are considered safe during pregnancy:

Acesulfame Potassium: This sweetener is added to baked goods, frozen desserts, sugar free gelatins, puddings and beverages. Acesulfame Potassium has been deemed safe to use in moderation during pregnancy by the FDA.

Aspartame: Aspartame is not effective in heat nor for long periods in liquid form. It is often found as an additive to soft drinks, gelatin, desserts, pudding mixes, breakfast cereals, beverages, chewing gum, dairy products, and other foods and drugs. According to the Food and Drug Administration(FDA), Aspartame is safe for use during pregnancy and lactation. It is recommended to limit consumption to a moderate level.

Aspartame should not be used by anyone with PKU (a rare metabolic disorder), rare liver disease, or by pregnant women who have high levels of phenylalanine in their blood. Phenylalanine is a component of aspartame, and it may not metabolize correctly in anyone who has these conditions.

Sucralose: This is non-caloric sweetener that is made from sugar. Sucralose has been approved for use in baked goods, baking mixes, non-alcoholic beverages, chewing gum, coffee and tea products, confections and frostings, fats and oils, frozen dairy desserts and mixes, fruit juices, sugar substitutes, sweet sauces, toppings and syrups. It can also be used as “table-top sweetener.” Sucralose has no effect on blood sugar, offers no calories, and is deemed safe during pregnancy and lactation. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sucralose is safe for everyone to consume, including pregnant women.

What artificial sweeteners are questionable or NOT safe to use during pregnancy?

Saccharin: Although it is not used as much today as in the past, it still appears in many foods, beverages and other substances. The FDA does consider saccharin to be safe to use for the general public. Former studies that had linked saccharin to an increased risk of developing bladder cancer have been dismissed by the National Toxicology program. But studies do show that saccharin crosses the placenta and may remain in fetal tissue, so its use for pregnant women still remains in question.

Stevia: This sweetener is derived from a South American shrub. It can add sweetness to foods, but has not been approved by the FDA to be sold as a sweetener. Stevia can be sold as a “dietary supplement” but not as a sweetener because its safety has been questioned when used as a food additive. The safety of Stevia is unknown when used as a sweetener by pregnant or lactating women.

Cyclamate: This sweetener has been linked to cancer and is currently banned in the United States. Cyclamate is not considered safe for anyone including pregnant women.

If you use artificial sweeteners and are pregnant, it is always best to talk with your care provider on which sweetener you are using and how much you are consuming.

To solve global problems we need global solutions, and we must work together even

by Stefan Fobes

To solve global problems we need global solutions, and we must work together even when there are differences in our political systems. - Jose Manuel Barroso, European Commission President speaking to the Chinese Communist Party Central School in Beijing on November 27, 2007

As the climb towards a world government continues, several things need to be done first, and one of them is centralization of all regulatory bodies, governments, and anything that affects our daily lives to even the smallest degree, the signs of which are too great to be ignored when reading on world events is done. 2008 seems to be the start of a turning point of this race for control, and those running things behind the scenes aren't pacing themselves to conserve energy anymore. So, I will concentrate here on what appears to me at the moment to be the three main things that that are in the beginning stages of or will soon be quickly centralized right now around the planet.

The Banks

So here it is. Everything I said three weeks ago before the crap really really started to hit the fan that about the banking and housing situation proved to be correct, unfortunately. I'll do a recap of the overall steps that have led the financial world to this point.

Banks and investment houses were lending out loans to people who clearly didn't have the income to pay. They could legally treat the cash flow from the loan itself as an asset and it seems the risk to them was so great since they were issuing so many of them, they combined them into packages called asset backed securities and collaterilized debt obligations, and then sold those to investors, who then traded them on the open market for profit.

This is basically what was being done all over the world, as is now public. The New York Times lends a hand here.

According to JPMorgan, there are about $1.5 trillion in global collateralized debt obligations, and about $500 billion to $600 billion in structured-finance C.D.O.’s, referring to those made up of bonds backed by subprime mortgages, slightly safer mortgages and commercial mortgage backed securities.

Many of the products have proved to be highly problematic as the underlying assets — the subprime mortgages — have gone bust, revealing dangerous amounts of leverage in the securities that few people could value. As a result, they have become like a potent computer virus, leaving many people fearful that they too will be affected.

“A lot of risk in the subprime asset-backed market is embedded in, and amplified by, C.D.O.’s,” said Rod Dubitsky, head of asset-backed research at Credit Suisse.

Weaknesses in the system were laid bare, including ratings that did not accurately reflect risk and faulty assumptions on how diversified pools with multiple layers of leverage would react.

They were laid bare by the Bear Stearns catastrophe. Out of Fortune Magazine:

Still, momentum was turning against the firm. That morning Goldman Sachs's credit derivatives group sent its hedge fund clients an e-mail announcing another blow. In previous weeks, banks such as Goldman had done a brisk business (for a handsome fee, of course) agreeing to stand in for institutions nervous, say, that Bear wouldn't be able to cough up its obligations on an interest rate swap. But on March 11, Goldman told clients it would no longer step in for them on Bear derivatives deals. (A Goldman spokesman asserts that the e-mail was not a categorical refusal.)

"I was astounded when I got the [Goldman] e-mail," says Kyle Bass of Hayman Capital. He had a colleague call Goldman to see if it was a mistake. "It wasn't," says Bass, who is a former Bear salesman. "Goldman told Wall Street that they were done with Bear, that there was [effectively] too much risk. That was the end for them."

It was ominous, but it wasn't yet the end. Bear continued absorbing blows. The cost of insuring $10 million in Bear debt via credit default swaps, which had hovered near $350,000 in the month before, shot past $1 million. By the end of March 11, the rate was irrelevant: Banks refused to issue any further credit protection on Bear's debt.

All it took was just this one crash to scare investors and their lack of confidence in all these different banks drove down their stock prices and credit ratings and then they were done. Banks all over the world were buying up these debt backed securities like hungry hyenas and they have got and are getting burned along with US banks. At the end they all held a bunch of bootleg assets which were the cash flows from all the home, student, car, credit card loans from people who could never have paid them in the first place, and were totally vulnerable to all their investors and depositors pulling out their money on the event of public exposure of this. All it took was just one bank, Bear Stearns, to cause a chain reaction which brought the financial markets to their knees. Bear Stearns was clearly a corporate hit, as the Fortune Magazine timeline shows. Goldman Sachs just came out of nowhere, and did that, and didn't even make a buy bid? Come on.

When you really look at it, the banks killed themselves. Literally. In 2004, representatives of Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers, Merill Lynch and Bear Stearns met with the SEC and asked for a whole string of things, including that their rainy day money which was supposed to be used to be a cushion against losses on their investments be loosed so they could start doing deals with the asset backed securities and that whole mess. The SEC commissioners gave em everything they wanted in a unanimous vote of approval. Some more of what they got was...

In loosening the capital rules, which are supposed to provide a buffer in turbulent times, the agency also decided to rely on the firms’ own computer models for determining the riskiness of investments, essentially outsourcing the job of monitoring risk to the banks themselves.

Over the following months and years, each of the firms would take advantage of the looser rules. At Bear Stearns, the leverage ratio — a measurement of how much the firm was borrowing compared to its total assets — rose sharply, to 33 to 1. In other words, for every dollar in equity, it had $33 of debt. The ratios at the other firms also rose significantly.

Unbelievable. And it got even wilder.

Annette L. Nazareth, the head of market regulation, reassured the commission that under the new rules, the companies for the first time could be restricted by the commission from excessively risky activity. She was later appointed a commissioner and served until January 2008.

Their rainy day money being burned out? Their debt ceiling erased? She was tied in. No one's that dumb. Also, in 2004, Paulson was CEO of Goldman Sachs before he became Treasury Secretary. Him being in that position is an insult a minute to America.

I've said in my last article about the financial storm that the banks that this was all a case of problem-reaction-solution. Create a problem, or let an existing one exacerbate, wait for the people to cry out "This is enough! Something must be done!", and then changes in society and power structures are introduced to clean up problems by the very same people who created those problems in the first place. Alan Greenspan set interest rates after 9/11 to the absolute minimum they could be, which was what gave the banks the encouragement to go wild. He held them there for years after, right up to the peak of the subprime mortgage lending scenario, and was called out on this by Leslie Stahl on 60 Minutes.

One of his former Fed governors, Ed Gramlich, said that he proposed that the Fed examine these lending practices and look into them to see if something could be done. Greenspan rejected that idea.

Why did he reject it?

“I thought that…we would not be capable of doing what he was suggesting,” Greenspan says.

“But if sitting on them, taking some regula-what…” Stahl asks.

“Well, I think not,” Greenspan replies.

“Even looking into it?” Stahl asks.

“It’s nothing to look in to particularly because we knew there was a number of such practices going on, but it’s very difficult for banking regulators to deal with that,” Greenspan says.

He insists there’s nothing he could’ve done to prevent today’s plummeting home prices and the fact that a million families have lost their homes, and many more could. But some economists now say Greenspan actually created the housing bubble and the credit crunch by keeping interest rates too low for too long.

Oh no, nothing wrong here. Don't look at the man behind the curtain! People talk about Bush's smirk, but you look at Greenspan's, he makes Bush look like a store mannequin, he has it on so much.

More from the 60 Minutes exchange.

“Just remember we raised interest rates at every meeting from June of 2004 till I got out of office,” he says.

“You raised rates in 2004. But only after you held interest rates at historically low level for three years, while the bubble, the housing bubble was forming,” Stahl points out. “And that you had 13 rate cuts in that period of time.”

“It was our job to unfreeze the American banking system if we wanted the economy to function. This required that we keep rates modestly low,” Greenspan explains.

This casual, carefree attitude about his position as Federal Reserve Chairman makes no sense if you come from the point of view that he is put there to stabilize the economy and to help save the world. But if you understand the little known fact that every year, world heads of state, European royalty, politicians, military, Fortune 500 business and banking CEOs, military bigs, and key journalists and academics, collectively known as the Bilderberg Group, meet at a luxurious hotel every year to talk, and it's so secret that not even the journalists or newspaper owners that do attend are allowed to report on what goes on. This is even from the Asia Times reporting on one of the more infamous guys who goes there.

"It would have been quite impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries ..."
- David Rockefeller, Bilderberg club permanent member, 1991

This conversation never happened. Well, it actually did. Date: March 5 to 8, 2005. Location: the isolated, fully-booked Dorint Sofitel Seehotel Ueberfahrt in Rottach-Egern, 60 kilometers east of Munich, Germany. Essential amenities: luxury rooms, a lake, a golf course, no suits - and no wives. Participants: 120-odd Western movers and shakers - politicians, tycoons, bankers, captains of industry, so-called strategic thinkers - invited for the 2005 meeting of the ultra-secretive Bilderberg club. Security: absolutely draconian. Global media coverage: non-existent.

Can't get much more solid than that. A person holding the above knowledge can easily understand why Bear Stearns suddenly turned upon Goldman Sachs, why Greenspan did what he did, and why the institutions which hold sway over populations are merging and combining like some lab experiment. Deputy White House Press Secretary Tony Fratto has admitted that the bank bailout bill was actually planned and written months before this reached even close to the point it is now.

Fratto said it would be "unthinkable" for Congress not to pass legislation this week, asserting the result would be a "very, very serious situation" for the U.S. economy.

"It shouldn't take much analysis to remember what happened last week, which was a very serious freeze-up in our credit markets," Fratto said. "Our financial markets right now do not need uncertainty, they need increased certainty as to how this rescue plan is going to go forward - and that they can be sure that there is a plan to go forward - and that will begin the correction in our financial markets."

Fratto insisted that the plan was not slapped together and had been drawn up as a contingency over previous months and weeks by administration officials. He acknowledged lawmakers were getting only days to peruse it, but he said this should be enough.

The gigantic Patriot Act bill coming out within two months of 9/11, when the planning, research, teamwork and coordination, and typing work would have taken ages to stamp out. Take a look at the Patriot Act sometime. Even if the bailout bill was written with the best of goals in mind, it won't work because it offers no solutions, just gives more money to the problem. And it wasn't. Speaking of throwing money, the revised bailout bill allows the FDIC to borrow unlimited amounts of money from the Treasury. The inclusion of a provision raising the amount that the FDIC can give out is just the steak thrown to the people that's been riddled with poison. That money gets out there, inflation will surge yet again because an upped money supply = less worth for the dollar. Too long has this machine run on other people's energy, other people's money. It's time these business hacks used their own steam to keep the train moving. Nouriel Roubini of Global Economonitor fleshes my thoughts out better.

Indeed, the plan also does not address the need to recapitalize those financial institutions that are badly undercapitalized: this could have been achieved by using some of the $700 billion to inject public funds in ways other and more effective than a purchase of toxic assets: via public injections of preferred shares into these firms; via required matching injections of Tier 1 capital by current shareholders to make sure that such shareholders take first tier loss in the presence of public recapitalization; via suspension of dividends payments; via a conversion of some of the unsecured debt into equity (a debt for equity swap). All these actions would have implied a much lower fiscal costs for the government as they would have forced the shareholders and creditors of the banks to contribute to the recapitalization of the banks. So less than $700 billion of public money could have been spent if the private shareholders and creditors had been forced to contribute to the recapitalization; and whatever the size of the public contribution were to be its distribution between purchases of bad assets and more efficient and fair forms of recapitalization (preferred shares, common shares, sub debt) should have been different. For example if the private sector had done its fair matching share only $350 billion of public money could have been used; and of this $350 billion half could have taken the form of purchase of bad assets and the other half should have taken the form of injection of public capital in these financial institutions. So instead of purchasing – most likely at an excessive price - $700 billion of toxic assets the government could have achieved the same result – or a better result of recapitalizing the banks – by spending only $175 billion in the direct purchase of toxic assets. And even after the government will waste $700 billion buying toxic assets many banks that have not yet provisioned for such losses/writedowns will be even more undercapitalized than before. So this plan does not even achieve the basic objective of recapitalizing undercapitalized banks.

Americans were furious over this bill, and Congress is saying they are recieving record amounts, in the millions of emails and calls on this one alone. Oh, if only the anger could have been about the ramifications of the proviso that gives Henry Paulson, the US Treasury Secretary some pretty badass powers under the plan: "Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency." America, like all other countries to some degree or another, is already headed towards a total 1984 style dictatorship in so many areas it'd make the average Joe or Jane's head spin if they knew the full extent of it. Paulson said that there was no room or time to get some money to bail out the screwed over homeowners when he was pitching the first version of the bill. It was only three pages long. I'm not going to spare the space for the obvious response to that. Oh and those golden mega payouts to exiting bank CEOs? Payoffs for a job well done. Why did the government officials who were at the helm before 9/11 get promoted instead of at the very least, fired? Same deal. Rewarded for a job, in their masters eyes, well done. Who stands to gain the most? Are there, to the naked eye, unreasonable rewards and promotions being passed around when the situation screams for the opposite to be happening? This is the simple formula that will let anyone know an attack was carried out, who did it and why in any major catastrophe that strikes anywhere on the globe. And indeed, Bush called Henry Paulson his wartime general. The reason for that remark is plain and clear now.

When I said in From Trap to Crunch to Assimilation - The Great American Power Lunch three weeks ago that the solution to the created problem would be more power given to government or a new regulatory agency created to control financial institutions, it wasn't that hard to see when the history is looked at. FEMA cut off water, aid and food and wouldn't let any of the French, Dutch, or anyone else come in with water filters or food or water or anything. But they took away the guns of the people and let the Mexican troops in. And then wanted MORE authority afterwards. FBI and CIA after 9/11? Wanted more power. It is now harvest time for these string pullers and they aren't being nice and easy about it. Timothy Geithner, New York Federal Reserve president, just right after Bilderberg ended on the 8th of June, proposed a global banking regulatory framework in the Financial Times of London. After that, what Greenspan did, and the meetings at Bilderberg, not too hard really. Here are all the people who have called for a centralized control over banks.

Mark Zandi, co-founder of Moody's Economy was the second one out the gates on the morning of September 18 on CSPAN calling for a new banking regulatory framework that gives the Federal Reserve greater power over institutions.

John McCain came out the next day saying he would create a new regulatory body specifically to deal with weakened financial institutions. Barack Obama said he is all for giving the Treasury as broad unilateral authority as possible. It's change, baby.

Council on Foriegn Relations member, former policy planner for Henry Kissinger when he was Secretary of State, and now Yale professor Jeffrey Garten has called for a global monetary authority which would: "It would act as “bankruptcy court” for financial reorganisations of global companies above a certain size. The biggest global financial companies would have to register with the GMA and be subject to its monitoring, or be blacklisted. That includes commercial companies and banks, but also sovereign wealth funds, gigantic hedge funds and private equity firms. The GMA’s board would have to include central bankers not just from the US, UK, the eurozone and Japan, but also China, Saudi Arabia and Brazil. It would be financed by mandatory contributions from every capable country and from insurance-type premiums from global financial companies – publicly listed, government owned, and privately held alike."

At the UN General Assembly, French president Nicolas Sarkozy said capitalism must be rebuilt in order to control financial markets when necessary. Guess that's the Chinese brand of capitalism. Gotcha. Brazilian president Luis Ignacio de Silva and UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon both called for international action on the financial storm.

Gordon Brown called for a new global financial order. His words.

And European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet says to preserve the unity of Europeans, the bailout bill must pass. Do it for the global community. And it has, today. And a European Central Bank Executive Board member Lorenzo Bini says governments must buy up stakes in banks to save economies. He says it is not right to use taxpayer money to save banks, but the question must be asked, where would governments be getting the money from to buy these stakes? Could it be from the very same banking kingpins such as the Rothschilds which started every single financial disaster from the London market tumble, to the Great Depression, to beyond? They don't have nearly the amount of charge to get the consent needed for a world central bank, but one more big bank, say a Citigroup, falls, they'll get it for sure.

Food

I found it strange and not a little funny when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Robert Mugabe got up at a summit in Rome a few months ago and blamed the West for the food crisis. I also found it boldly hypocritical in the worst way. Mugabe actually blamed the West for starving his people. Anyone who knows the basic story of Zimbabwe knows that it is he who keeps the food under strict control, but what I really found chilling, is that Ahmadinejad called for a global food regulatory organization. This guy is a total New World Order shill, deeper cover than most, but on the world stage you truly can be judged by the friends you keep, and below can be seen where his true loyalties lie.

Every month it seems, there's a new Chinese contaminated product scandal coming out. Tainted milk here, bad pet food there, sick children due to lead paint in toys just hitting the public's heads constantly. Here are all the Chinese scandals there over the past two years that have been publicized. The aspartame which fries people's brains, the genetically modified food which can change the DNA of gut bacteria, and the MSG which turns kids into little Tasmanian Devils. These should be front page news items without stop every day until these products are taken off the shelves. Even the thousands of deaths in China are nothing compared to the effects of aspartame in Diet drinks, MSG, and the deaths from the mercury in vaccines combined.

So why China? As far as I can see, there are two main reasons for shoving this in the public's face, and it's not for any altruistic purposes. I continue to write about there being a plan for a manufactured war involving China, Russia, Iran, and several other countries vs the West. It won't start out the way most are expecting it to straight into Iran though. The public isn't giving them the consent and already the false flag terror attack tactic has been made wise to too many for it to work again. That will be tried from a totally unexpected angle. The way this is being broadcasted, it looks to me to be an economic war against China as part of an ongoing sort of WW2.5 before the actual hard war starts. The EU has banned products containing Chinese milk. China seems to have told its banks to stop lending to US financial institutions as retaliation, because it seems so out of character for them, who are the biggest foriegn holders of US debt. A little known story by TIME has revealed that Iranian and US troops had gotten into a firefight at the Iraqi-Iranian border. Which has been blacked out by the corporate media outlets at large. The world got their first brush with WW3 during the Georgia breakaway province conflict, and other outbreaks of the same will happen. China has been in Africa for several years gathering up all the natural resources it can and is bossing the African people around just like the British did them during colonial times. But actually colonial times have never ended for China since the British Windsors own it now as much as they have ever during colonial times, just in an economic way and through the subordinate to them Chinese secret societies, the slightly more public face of them known today as the Triads and Tongs. In Africa, the US has started up a new command called Africom, whose head had some curious things to say.

However General Ward said Africom did not intend to help the US get control of more of Africa's oil and other resources.

"There is no hidden agenda. It is about working with the African nations to help them build their capacity," the general told the BBC's World Today programme.

He said it was a "myth" and "absolutely not the case" that the command was going to build big bases in Africa.

"We will do those things in partnership with our African friends," he said.

"Where we bring in, for instance, trainers or other forms of military support and assistance there, they are only so long as is required to conduct the specific training that we've been asked to do or to conduct the specific activities."

It's the special reversespeak which tells you what they really plan to do. There are fantastic amounts of gold, silver, bauxite, all that stuff, and watch for African events that will provide justification for the US to come in, whether it be a resurgence of Al-Qaeda, new African rebel groups that threaten the African democratic process, or whatever other excuse will be needed to come in and get the territory away from China before WW3 starts up. This is subtle, this is real, and it is ongoing even as I write this. But this plan can be stopped through exposure of it. Feel this info is valid? Pass it around. This agenda is gaining ground like a Pacman and if people think that just sitting on their asses and being afraid of mysterious government agencies who in reality don't have the manpower (other than their supercomputers) to spy to even a fraction of a degree to what the public believes they can will save them from Big Brother, they are dead wrong.

The other reason, is to gain control of world food trade, growing, and distribution. It is no coincidence that there are stories also in the US rolled out every other month as well about contaminated food. It is my gut feeling that there is in the works, planned a giant food related incident headlined in the world press, then the world leaders will get up on the podiums and say international regulatory action has to be carried out, we need more genetically modified food, and the same old script will play out again.

The Airlines

Rising fuel prices have contributed to price increases in so many areas of our daily lives. Every week, prices are going up for something when previously it took three years for those same things to go up in cost. Even the airlines are getting hit by it, and that's why you see it coming in form of reduce quality of service, such as being charged to carry extra luggage on planes. But more to the point, there are the all day takeoff waits for flights, the stranding in airports in the bitter cold winter, Northwest, Transworld, and Delta going bankrupt, and the others that have gone bust, it's a problem waiting to happen. Here's the list of airplanes crashing mysteriously. The one in Madrid, they wouldn't even let the reporters in the Spanish media report on it. Total ban. There have also been a string of medical helicopter accidents reported almost every other day it seems now. These pilots can't all be incompetent, and there are many unanswered questions regarding all these incidents. Whenever there's a string of incidents rapid fire reported over a short period of time, it always ends up culminating in some call for more centralized control. And control over movement is a much desired feather in any dictator's cap.

Iberia and British Airlines, two of the biggest ones, are set to merge in March of '09. When they first came out with the announcement that they were holding merger talks, or should it be called cartelism talks?

BA's close rival Virgin Atlantic said the merger could lead to less choice for consumers and push up ticket prices.

Virgin also expressed concern that the combined entity would control nearly half of all take off and landing slots at Heathrow airport.

Laurie Price, head of aviation strategy at Mott MacDonald, said that travellers may see fewer flights to certain destinations or larger aircraft used on certain routes.

"They will agree spheres of interest," Mr Price said.

"Iberia will likely concentrate on South America and Africa while BA will focus on the Middle and Far East," he added.

They are both part of an alliance called Oneworld, funnily enough. If a world government with a small group of regulatory bodies having centralized control over everything is to be put in place, the corporations have to be merged along with the governments and other units. This is the reason why everything is so lax regarding mergers, and becoming more so by the day.

Folks, this stuff is not food and has caused the spike in obesity in recent decades. HFCS is not goo

Folks, this stuff is not food and has caused the spike in obesity in recent decades. HFCS is not good for human consumption in any amount! The truth will be told--

This is definitely the best article I've seen about why HFCS is bad for you as a human being. Kudos to Jon Barron. This is a must-read.

Interesting that even tonight's "King of the Hill" had a main character getting type 2 diabetes, which at least 40-50% of Americans have--a conservative estimate--whether they know it or not. Around 50% of the US population is obese, and diabetes is a surefire consequence of obesity, beginning with chronic high blood sugar caused by bad diet and inactivity. Diabetes is best reversed through an attentive diet and exercise.

Let's get HFCS out of our food supply now! Put pressure on the FDA!

Stop eating fake food, people!

The cycle is like this: government subsidies to fake food makers--> people get deadly non-food (filled with HFCS, aspartame/equal, MSG, sucralose/ Splenda, and other toxins)--> Big Pharma jumps in with lots of medications for you to be dependent on forever!

All of which could be prevented by eating natural foods that do not have any ingredients you can't pronounce or don't know the origin of!

Also, if something has more than 5 ingredients, it better have a reason to have more than 5 ingredients. Read labels!

A preview:

" Despite claims to the contrary, there is a wide body of research that validates the concept of sugar "addiction." To be clear, we're not talking about a physical addiction comparable to a drug here, but the simple fact that the more sugar you eat the more you want to eat. Also, studies show that the high levels of isolated fructose (as found in HFCS) cause a reduction in circulating insulin and leptin, which effectively turns off the body's appetite control mechanisms, thus causing you to eat more.

High Fructose Corn Syrup, Oh Boy!

Date: 9/29/2008
Posted By: Jon Barron

This month, the Corn Refiners Association (CRA) launched the first of a series of television ads that are planned to run for the next 18 months as part of a campaign to "make-over" the image of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). The core message of the ads is that high-fructose corn syrup is made from corn, has no artificial ingredients, has the same calories as sugar, is okay to eat in moderation -- and that it's endorsed by the AMA and the FDA. The ads are priceless in their misrepresentation of facts and in their total lack of respect for the intelligence of the viewing public -- although experience says they are, nevertheless, likely to win over large numbers of people. Before we go any further, you probably need to see one of these ads.

Isn't that delightful? Absolutely! But let's take a look at what HFCS actually is and at the key points in the ad one-by-one to see how they stack up on the "truth meter." Then we can examine the so called "endorsements" from the AMA and the FDA. And finally, we'll take a look at the reality behind high fructose corn syrup.

Definition of high fructose corn syrup

HFCS doesn't actually exist anywhere in nature. It is a manufactured product created by using enzymes (two natural, one synthetic) to increase the fructose content of corn syrup to about 90%. This super high fructose syrup is then blended "down" with a 100% glucose corn syrup to create various mixes. HFCS 55, for example, which is 55% fructose and 45% glucose is the mix used most commonly in beverages. HFCS 42 is the blend used more commonly in baked goods.

As a point of comparison, table sugar (sucrose) is a disaccharide comprised of a molecule of fructose and glucose bound together. It is very easily digested in the stomach into its component sugars, and in that respect is not unlike an HFCS 50 mix. However, it should be noted that table sugar, like HFCS, is not a naturally occurring substance itself and must be "refined" (although not chemically altered) through manufacturing processes before it sits on your table. And keep in mind, it's no badge of honor for the HFCS industry to claim that there's no difference between HFCS and sucrose since heavy consumption of sucrose has been linked to everything from obesity to diabetes.

High fructose corn syrup is made from corn

Yes, it's absolutely true that high fructose corn syrup is made from corn, but it doesn't mean anything. Biodiesel is made from corn too, and you wouldn't want to see that used as a food additive. Or take castor oil. It's used as a food grade additive, in flavorings, and in chocolate as a mold inhibitor. And the FDA has categorized castor oil as GRAS (generally regarded as safe) for use in laxatives. Unfortunately, castor beans also happensto be the source of one of the most deadly poisons known to man, ricin -- made famous as a tool of assassination used by spies. The bottom line is that just because you start with a natural, safe substance doesn't automatically make derivatives of that substance safe. So much for the first argument.

High fructose corn syrup has no artificial ingredients in it

According to the high fructose corn syrup industry itself, most claims that HFCS is not a natural product arise as a result of the fact that corn starch is treated with three different types of enzymes in order to produce HFCS. Two of the three enzymes used in HFCS production are naturally occurring enzymes; one (glucose-isomerase) is synthetic -- the synthetic enzyme being the cause of concern. The industry's counter argument is that the synthetic enzyme is never actually added to the HFCS, rather the sugar mixture is simply passed over it and it interacts with glucose to produce fructose.

In point of fact, the statement and argument are both disingenuous. Most claims concerning the artificiality of HFCS have nothing to do with the enzymes used in processing, but rather relate to the fact that chemical bonds are broken and rearranged in the manufacturing process. (Note: this does not happen in the process of refining table sugar.)

High fructose corn syrup has the same calories as table sugar

That it does. And once again, comparing HFCS to table sugar in this regard is not necessarily something you want to brag about. At first glance, it doesn't look that bad. Both sugar and HFCS contain about 15 calories per teaspoon. The problem is how quickly that builds up. Soft drinks and fruit punches (think back to the ad we looked at earlier) contain about 1 teaspoon of sweetener per ounce -- so you're looking at about 150 calories per 12 ounce can of soda and about 180 calories per 12 ounce glass of fruit punch (as seen in the ad). Have 3-6 servings a day, as many people are wont to do, and you're looking at 500-1,000 empty calories per day. That could actually mean as much as 2 lbs of extra body-weight gained each and every week.

High fructose corn syrup is okay to eat in moderation

Ahhh! That's the issue isn't it? The simple fact is that it's almost impossible to consume HFCS in moderation. If you think about it, even a single serving of fruit punch, which contains 43 g of sugar, is already well beyond moderate. Have two to three servings a day and you're into sugar la la land. And did you get alook at the serving size mommy is hefting about in the ad? That's a one gallon jug. Yes, there's nothing like a gallon jug to say "moderation."

Then, of course, there are the cravings.

Despite claims to the contrary, there is a wide body of research that validates the concept of sugar "addiction." To be clear, we're not talking about a physical addiction comparable to a drug here, but the simple fact that the more sugar you eat the more you want to eat. Also, studies show that the high levels of isolated fructose (as found in HFCS) cause a reduction in circulating insulin and leptin, which effectively turns off the body's appetite control mechanisms, thus causing you to eat more.
Bottom line: the words moderation and HFCS don't actually go together.

High fructose corn syrup is endorsed by the American Medical Association

Despite CRA's use of the AMA quote in their ads, the AMA's position is significantly more nuanced than implied by the isolated quote. In fact, the CRA used only the first half of the first sentence taken from the June 17th AMA press release:

"After studying current research, the American Medical Association (AMA) today concluded that high fructose syrup does not appear to contribute more to obesity than other caloric sweeteners."

In fact, the last half of the sentence adds an immediate qualifier:

"But [the AMA] called for further independent research to be done on the health effects of high fructose syrup and other sweeteners."

They then went on to say:

"We do recommend consumers limit the amount of all added caloric sweeteners to no more than 32 grams of sugar daily."

And as we already know, a single 12 oz serving of fruit punch as featured in the CRA ad contains 48 g, 1/3 more than the AMA's maximum allowance -- for an entire day -- in a single serving.

Finally, the AMA press release concludes with a statement that hardly qualifies as a ringing endorsement for HFCS. In effect, they say they just don't know.

"Currently, there are few available studies on the health effects of high fructose syrup and most are focused on the short-term effects."

High fructose corn syrup is endorsed by the FDA

The simple truth of the matter is that the FDA does not actually "endorse" HFCS. All they did was come out with a statement/letter from Geraldine June, Supervisor of the FDA's Product Evaluation and Labeling Team at FDA's Office of Nutrition, Labeling, and Dietary Supplements written to the Corn Refiners Association that said HFCS could be labeled a "natural" ingredient.

"[the FDA] would not object to the use of the term ‘natural' on a product containing the HFCS produced by the manufacturing process…"

But even that statement is far more nuanced than it might appear. First of all, as made clear in the letter, it's actually a reversal of a previous position taken by Supervisor June just two months earlier based on a clarification of the process used by one manufacturer only -- it's not a blanket statement:

"The use of synthetic fixing agents in the enzyme preparation, which is then used to produce HFCS, would not be consistent with our (…) policy regarding the use of the term 'natural'. Consequently, we would object to the use of the term 'natural' on a product containing HFCS."

But more importantly, it makes clear that the FDA's definition of "natural" probably is not the same as yours. You might think that "natural" has something to do with "as it exists in nature." Not so for the FDA. Their definition is restricted to the fact that nothing artificial or synthetic "has been added." It absolutely avoids the issue of whether something that might have started out from a natural source might be altered or made "unnatural" in its processing. Or to look at it another way, according to the FDA, Frankenstein's monster would be considered a "natural" creation because nothing artificial or synthetic has been added -- just all "natural" dead body parts assembled and electrified to make the monster. "It's alive! It's alive!"

That definition might work for the FDA, but I doubt if it works for most of you.

The bottom line on high fructose corn syrup

Manufactures love high fructose corn syrup because it's cheaper than table sugar and easier to transport and work with (it's a liquid). Unfortunately, the human body is not designed to handle high levels of isolated fructose.

Since the dawn of man, humans have consumed fructose (mostly in fresh fruit where the fructose is actually bound to the fruit fiber, thus slowing its absorption in the body), at about 16--20 grams per day. The heavy use of HFCS, though, has resulted in significant increases in consumption of fructose isolate, leading to typical daily consumption reaching an average of 85--100 grams of fructose per day -- again, not bound to fiber. And remember, the AMA recommendation is 32 g a day -- maximum. Yet in 1980 the average person ate 39 pounds of fructose and 84 pounds of sucrose. And by 1994, those numbers had climbed to 66 pounds of sucrose and 83 pounds of fructose. Today, it's almost impossible to find a commercial food that doesn't have added sugar -- predominantly HFCS with its high content isolated fructose.

The problem is that fructose is absorbed differently than other sugars -- and fructose isolate as found in HFCS even more so. It causes major health problems. For example:

The exposure of the liver to such large quantities of fructose leads to rapid stimulation of the breakdown of fats and the concomitant rapid accumulation of triglycerides, which in turn contributes to reduced insulin sensitivity, insulin resistance, and glucose intolerance.

Unlike glucose, fructose doesn't stimulate insulin production, which means it isn't utilized for energy, but rather is stored in the liver as triglycerides.

Again, unlike glucose, HFCS doesn't increase leptin production or suppress production of ghrelin. (These are hormones that play a primary role in appetite control.) The net effect is that HFCS encourages you to eat more…the more of it you eat. In effect, HFCS is addictive and encourages weight gain and obesity.

And if that were not enough, it appears that HFCS distorts the body's magnesium balance, thereby accelerating bone loss.

Finally, it's true that medical authorities and publicity seeking politicians took on trans fats, but that was a relatively easy target. Let's see if they have the cojones to take on high fructose corn syrup, which has replaced trans fats in my book as the number one dietary killer. So far, at least, it appears they do not.

Between MSG and High Fructose Corn Syrup, the majority of americans are poisoning themselves on a daily basis. These two ingrediants are in nearly everything and with prolonged exposure can do some MAJOR damage to your body.

I have another article on my blog about HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) you may feel inclined to read. I'm sure you've seen the commercials about corn syrup if you live in the US that goes on about how safe it is.

She states, What? That it's made of corn? What she doesn't say is corn syrup itself is so broken down in the process that it has to be rebuilt by man, and is therefore no longer a natural substance. In fact it's closer to being a plastic then it is corn. Talk about a major attempt to brainwash the unsuspecting consumer! ~Kat

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MSG - The Slow Poisoning Of America
MSG Hides Behind 25+ Names, Such As 'Natural Flavouring'
MSG Is Also In Your Favorite Coffee Shops And Drive-Ups
9-12-5
I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, so did a friend of mine, John Erb.
He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent years working for the government.
He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called "The Slow Poisoning of America".
In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so the scientists have to create them. They make these morbidly obese creatures by injecting them with MSG when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates; causing rats (and humans?) to become obese. They even have a title for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats".
I was shocked too. I went to my kitchen, checking the cupboards and the fridge. MSG was in everything: The Campbell's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavoured potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low fat' ones.
The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called ''Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein'', which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate.
It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. They hide MSG under many different names in order to fool those who carefully read the ingredient list, so they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG: 'Accent' - 'Aginomoto' - 'Natural Meet Tenderizer', etc) But it didn't stop there. When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items had MSG.
Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere:
Burger King
McDonalds
Wendy's
Taco Bell
And every restaurant like: TGIF, Chilis', Applebees and Denny's use MSG in abundance.
Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in EVERY chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin, their secret spice was MSG.
So, why is MSG in so may of the foods we eat?
Is it a preservative or a vitamin?? Not according to my friend John. In the book he wrote, an expose of the food additive industry called "The Slow Poisoning of America" he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body. http://www.spofamerica.com
Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG at: http://www.msgfactscom/facts/msgfact12.html explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people EAT MORE OF THEIR PRODUCTS.
A study of the elderly showed that people eat more of the foods it is added to.The Glutamate Association lobby group says eating more benefits the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us? 'Betcha can't eat just one', takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight?
The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.
Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance! Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. How can they claim it safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these? :-
'The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity'. GobattoCA, Mello MA, Souza CT, Ribeiro IA.Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002.
'Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats'. Guimaraes RB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug.
'Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: an animal model of multiple risk factors'. Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, IchikawaK, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar.
'Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obesity'. Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K, Kusunoki Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct.
Yes, that last study was not a typo, it WAS written in 1978. Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about MSG's side effects for decades! Many more studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to Diabetes, Migraines and headaches, Autism, ADHD and even Alzheimer's. But what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?
Even as you read this, G. W. Bush and his corporate supporters are pushing a Bill through Congress called the "Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act" also known as the "Cheeseburger Bill", this sweeping law bans anyone from suing food manufacturers, sellers and distributors. Even if it comes out that they purposely added an addictive chemical to their foods. Read about it for yourself at: http://www.yahoo.com. The Bill has already been rushed through the House of Representatives, and is due for the same rubber stamp at Senate level. It is important that Bush and his corporate supporters get it through before the media lets everyone know about 'MSG, the intentional Nicotine for food'.
Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada. While sitting in the Government office, the official told him "Sure, I know how bad MSG is, I wouldn't touch the stuff." But this top level government official refused to tell the public what he knew.
The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing legal issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive. But what can I do about it?... I'm just one voice.
What can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us.
This e-mail is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate owned politicians and media won't tell you. The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic, is to forward this email to everyone. With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass the legislation protecting those who are poisoning us. The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on Nicotine?
If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us, and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself. Go to the National Library of Medicine, at http://www.pubmed.com. Type in the words "MSG Obese" and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear.
We the public, do not want to be rats in one giant experiment and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line, while waiting for the heart transplant, diabetic induced amputation, blindness or other obesity induced, life threatening disorders. With your help we can put an end to this poison. Do your part in sending this message out by word of mouth, e-mail or by distribution of this print-out to all your friends all over the world and stop this 'Slow Poisoning of Mankind' by the packaged food industry.
Blowing the whistle on MSG is our responsibility, get the word out.
About 1,444,920 new cases of cancer were expected to be diagnosed last year–while 559,650 people were expected to die from the disease, according to the American Cancer Society. That’s more than 1,500 people a day. What a startling statistic. In the book Cancer: 101 Solutions to a Preventable Epidemic (New Society Publishers, 2007) by Liz Armstrong et al, the No. 4 solution is “Eat a Healthy Diet.” Listed within are the 10 Foods and Drinks to Limit or Eliminate:
1. All charred food, which create heterocyclic aromatic amines, known carcinogens. Even dark toast is suspect.
2. Well-done red meat. Medium or rare is better, little or no red meat is best.
3. Sugar, both white and brown–which is simply white sugar with molasses added. (See Care2’s Directory of Natural Sweeteners for great, healthy alternatives.)
4. Heavily salted, smoked and pickled foods, which lead to higher rates of stomach cancer.
5. Sodas/soft drinks, which pose health risks, both for what they contain–sugar and various additives–and for what they replace in the diet–beverages and foods that provide vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.
6. French fries, chips and snack foods that contain trans fats.
7. Food and drink additives such as aspartame.
8. Excess alcohol.
9. Baked goods, for the acrylamide.
10. Farmed fish, which contains higher levels of toxins such as PCBs.
As long as I have been alive there seems to have been a battle to replace sugar with alternative sweeteners in the human diet. Abusive use of sugar has been painted as the evil behind many of the problems such as obesity and diabetes that plague people’s health and lives. Artificial sweeteners such as Saccharin under many different names, Aspartame aka. Equal® and Sucralose aka. as Splenda® have all sought to replace sugar at our families table as the sweetener of choice. But the new and improved artificial sweeteners are becoming a damned if you do - damned if you don’t proposition. Saccharin products, which has been around a long time was giving the old heave ho by medical experts because it was shown to cause brain tumors in lab rats. Those tests are now in question as to if saccharin would affect humans in the same manner as it did the lab rats. There are still many forms of it around today under many names but when Aspartame made its debut as a better and safer product; the saccharin products saw a huge decline in popularity. But Equals reign, as the artificial sweetener of choice was short. Like saccharin Aspartame was deemed by many in the health industry to have dangerous side effects. Depending on who or what study you choose to believe there have been as high as a possible 92 different dangerous side effects associated with Aspartame. Some of those include psychological, physical and neurological disorders that include epileptic seizures, severe tremors, vision problems including blindness in one or both eyes, loss of control of diabetes, insomnia, phobias, irritability, brain lesions and brain tumors. It has since lost its popularity as the artificial sweetener king to Sucralose though; I believe that Equal/Aspartame still has most of the diet soft drink industry still under it main control. Still Sucralose/Splenda® has not had a lack of detractors in the health industry. It has been associated with claims of health problems including shrunken thymus glands and enlarged livers and kidneys. Now a new study by Duke University, already being questioned about its objectivity, claims the very popular sweetener Sucralose/Splenda® may actually increase obesity chances, destroy the good bacteria in the digestive system and prevent the absorption of your prescription drugs. Of course in all fairness I have read that artificial sweeteners in general may contribute to obesity and diabetes problems. What I have read is that the body expects a carb rush when eating sweetened items and when the body does not get that carb rush it creates a craving to overindulge in other items to get the carb rush. Purpose of not eating the sugar defeated. (Actually in some items I have found by substituting brown sugar in hot foods, like my morning bowl of Oats, for white sugar I do not want as much sugar in what I am eating.) It sounds like it is back to the old drawing board for the artificial sweeteners in their battle for the worlds sweet tooth market.
Aspartame poisoning is something that happened to a cousin of mine, so it's always been something which I've been very much aware of.
I got the following article from a good resource on Aspartame Poisoning: http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-side-effects.html.
Aspartame Side Effects
The components of aspartame can lead to a number of                            health problems, as you have read. Side effects can                            occur gradually, can be immediate, or can be acute reactions.                            According to Lendon Smith, M.D. there is an enormous                            population suffering from side effects associated with                            aspartame, yet have no idea why drugs, supplements and                            herbs don’t relieve their symptoms. Then, there                            are users who don’t ‘appear’ to suffer                            immediate reactions at all. Even these individuals are                            susceptible to the long-term damage caused by excitatory                            amino acids, phenylalanine, methanol, and DKP.
Adverse reactions and side effects of aspartame include:
Eye
blindness in one or both eyes
decreased vision and/or other eye problems such as:                            blurring, bright flashes, squiggly lines, tunnel vision,                            decreased night vision
pain in one or both eyes
decreased tears
trouble with contact lenses
bulging eyes
Ear
tinnitus - ringing or buzzing sound
severe intolerance of noise
marked hearing impairment
Neurologic
epileptic seizures
headaches, migraines and (some severe)
dizziness, unsteadiness, both
confusion, memory loss, both
severe drowsiness and sleepiness
paresthesia or numbness of the limbs
severe slurring of speech
severe hyperactivity and restless legs
atypical facial pain
severe tremors
Psychological/Psychiatric
severe depression
irritability
aggression
anxiety
personality changes
insomnia
phobias
Chest
palpitations, tachycardia
shortness of breath
recent high blood pressure
Gastrointestinal
nausea
diarrhea, sometimes with blood in stools
abdominal pain
pain when swallowing
Skin and Allergies
Endocrine and Metabolic
loss of control of diabetes
menstrual changes
marked thinning or loss of hair
marked weight loss
gradual weight gain
aggravated low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
severe PMS
Other
frequency of voiding and burning during urination
excessive thirst, fluid retention, leg swelling, and                            bloating
increased susceptibility to infection
Additional Symptoms of Aspartame Toxicity include the                            most critical symptoms of all
death
irreversible brain damage
birth defects, including mental retardation
peptic ulcers
aspartame addiction and increased craving for sweets
hyperactivity in children
severe depression
aggressive behavior
suicidal tendencies
Aspartame may trigger, mimic, or cause the following                            illnesses:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Epstein-Barr
Post-Polio Syndrome
Lyme Disease
Grave’s Disease
Meniere’s Disease
Alzheimer’s Disease
ALS
Epilepsy
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
EMS
Hypothyroidism
Mercury sensitivity from Amalgam fillings
Fibromyalgia
Lupus
non-Hodgkins
Lymphoma
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
These are not allergies or sensitivities, but diseases                            and disease syndromes. Aspartame poisoning is commonly                            misdiagnosed because aspartame symptoms mock textbook                            ‘disease’ symptoms, such as Grave’s Disease.
Aspartame changes the ratio of amino acids in the blood,                            blocking or lowering the levels of serotonin, tyrosine,                            dopamine, norepinephrine, and adrenaline. Therefore,                            it is typical that aspartame symptoms cannot be detected                            in lab tests and on x-rays. Textbook disorders and diseases                            may actually be a toxic load as a result of aspartame                            poisoning.
Ever gone to the doctor with real, physical symptoms,                            but he/she can’t find the cause? Well, it’s                            probably your diet, your environment, or both.
Aspartame is the common denominator for over 92 different health symptoms at the root of modern disease. The Aspartame Detoxification Program demonstrates the                            most effective way to reverse disease symptoms is removing                            the underlying cause - aspartame.
I counsel aspartame victims worldwide and have witnessed                            nine out of 10 clients restore their health by following                            the Aspartame Detoxification Program. Begin with detoxifying                            your body of all residual chemical toxins from aspartame's                            chemical make up of phenylalanine, aspartic acid and                            methanol and their toxic by-products, and see if any                            adverse health symptoms remain. Try the Aspartame Detoxification                            Program, and within 30 days your symptoms should disappear.
Steps:
Remove all sugar-free products with aspartame from                              your diet.
Learn to 'read' your body. Begin recording any health                              changes.
Get a hair analysis.
Be happy with yourself.
Detoxify.
Restore depleted nutrients.
Exercise and get plenty of rest.
Eat 75% raw foods at every meal.
Drink water, water, water.
Get control of your life.
I designed this Ten Step Program to help protect your                            health and the health of those you love from being seduced                            by the sugar-free diet craze. Wishing you good health.
What can you do about aspartame side effects?
Set an example by changing your diet.
Tell everyone you know.
Talk to the schools and day care centers. Offer                              to speak at parent-teachers meetings.
Contact your local, state, and Federal government                              representatives.
If you see someone with a diet drink, ask if they                              have had any of the typical aspartame side effects.
Spread the word at your work.
Distribute the Aspartame Consumer Safety Network                              and Pilot's Hotline
Tell your doctor about the scientific research available                              proving the negative side effects of aspartame.
Register a complaint with the FDA, the FAA, the                              NutraSweet Company about aspartame poisoning.
Return all food products with aspartame, opened                              or unopened, to your grocer. Tell him/her the products                              make you sick. The grocer can return them to the manufacturer                              for a store refund. The manufacturer should get the                              message. So, will the grocer.
Spread the word on computer networks.
Publish articles in newsletters at your church,                              place of work, or neighborhood association.
Set a personal example for health and wellness.
Click Here To See Aspartame Symptoms Submitted to the FDA.
So all these problems are actually very much avoidable. We people really just like to ruin ourselves.
In today's regulatory atmosphere of "innocent until proven guilty," parents need to think carefully about the foods and products they offer their children. It's a battleground out there: witness the tussle over issues such as the ongoing debate over issues such as BPA in bottles.
If you have ever wonder why sclerosis and connective tissue dis-eases are on the rise then please read the following story:
================================================================
"In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick. She had stomach spasms and she was having a hard time getting around. Walking was a major chore.It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain.
By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not determine what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick she just knew she was dying.
She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance, etc., in her oldest daughter's name, and made sure that her younger children were to be taken care of. She also wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to Florida (in a wheelchair)for March 22nd.
On March 19, I called her to ask how her most recent tests went, and she said they didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had multiple sclerosis or MS. I recalled an article a friend of mine e-mailed to me and I asked my sister if she drank diet soda? She told me that she did. As a matter of fact, she was getting ready to crack one open that moment. I told her not to open it, and to stop drinking the diet soda! I e-mailed her the article my friend, a lawyer, had sent.
My sister called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she had stopped drinking the diet soda AND she could walk! The muscle spasms went away. She said she didn't feel 100% but, she sure felt a lot better. She told me she was going to her doctor with this article and would call me when she got home.
Well, she called me, and said her doctor was amazed! He is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consume artificial sweeteners of any kind. In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the Aspartame in the diet soda...and literally dying a slow and miserable death.
When she got to Florida March 22, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for the Aspartame poisoning! She is well on her way to a complete recovery. And she is walking! No wheelchair!"
================================================================
This article saved her life.
If it says 'SUGAR FREE' on the label;
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
At the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on 'ASPARTAME,' marketed as 'Nutra Sweet,' 'Equal,' and 'Spoonful' the keynote address by the EPA, announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus.
The speaker stated that it was difficult to determine exactly what toxin was causing this to be rampant.
The toxin was Aspartame!
I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous:
When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes systemic metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants.
The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus all inflammatory conditions from dietary and metabolic acid.
Many people have been diagnosed in error.
Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is!
Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet C**E and Diet P***I drinkers.
The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit.. He or she continues its use; irritating the connective tissue to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition.
I have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas. In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear. I have seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly.
This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia. I state, "If you are using ASPARTAME (Nutra Sweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) and you suffer from the acidic symptoms of fibromyalgia spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss you probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!"
The most important question is, 'Is it reversible?' The answer is a resounding Yes! Yes! Yes!
STOP drinking sodas and diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels!
Many products are fortified with it! This is a serious problem.
Acidic diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple deionized SODIUM and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight!
These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fatty tissues, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute acidic nuero-toxin and is used primarily to preserve 'tissue specimens.'
Many products you are using every day contain this chemical and it is being stored in the connective and fatty tissues!
Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics who are already over-acid with sugar. Aspartame drives the serum blood sugars out of control.
Thus, diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEURO-TOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance.
Treating diabetes is all about maintaining the alkaline design of the body.
Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, seizures,depression, manic depression, panic attacks, uncontrollable anger and rage.Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics as well.
Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in their behavior when these acidic chemicals have been removed from the diet. So called 'behavior modification prescription drugs' (Ritalin and others ) are no longer needed. Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the first place!
Most of these children were being 'poisoned' on a daily basis with the very foods that were 'better for them than sugar.'
It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.
Aspartame can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy.
Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners.
There are many different case histories that relate to children suffering grand mal seizures and other neurological disturbances directly caused by the use of this acidic deadly poison.
Please read the labels before purchasing any food, drink or dietary supplement to make sure it is free of sugar and dietary sugars - especially the artificial acidic sweetener Aspartame. The quality and quantity of your life may depend on it.
The political background it took to get this stuff on the open market is worth a read if you find this article intriguing.
Summary of Aspartame and Migraine/Headache Issue
Headaches comprise 28.7% of the aspartame toxicity reactions reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Adverse Reaction Monitoring System (DHHS 1997). In a survey of 551 aspartame toxicity cases, 45% (249) reported headaches or migraines from aspartame use (Roberts 1988). In a survey of 190 patients seen at the Montefiore Headache Unit in New York, Lipton (1989) found that 8.2% of the patients reported aspartame as a definite headache precipitant. Johns (1986) reported a case of aspartame causing migraine in a young woman. Migraines decreased and ceased upon elimination of aspartame. Rechallenge with aspartame in liquid led to a reoccurance of migraines. Watts (1991) reported headache, shaking chills, lethargy, confusion, and myagia from aspartame use. Blumenthal (1997) reported three cases of headaches in women chewing aspartame-containing gum.
Headaches reported refer to migraines, cluster headaches, and other headaches. In addition, aspartame-caused headaches are often part of many symptoms linked to aspartame use:
"A 68-y-old female respondent developed nausea, vomiting and diarrhea after using 15 mL (one tablespoon) of a popular aspartame-flavored powdered laxative twice daily for several months. There was concomitant decreased vision and pain in both eyes, impaired hearing, marked sensitivity to noise in both ears, severe headaches, dizziness and unsteadiness (at times requiring assistance while walking), intense drowsiness, tremors, depression and itching. Her symptoms dissappeared several weeks after she stopped using this and other aspartame products, and had not recurred when she completed the questionnaire." (Roberts 1988)
"A 39-year-old white female complained of depression, memory loss, lethargy, irritability, dizziness, and headaches. The complainant's first use of aspartame-containing products was in March 1983, when she began using approximately 8 packs on Equal per day. During the symptomatic interval, the complaintant added other aspartmae-containing products to he diet, including Diet Coke and Kool Aid. The symptoms started in mid-April and increased in number and intensity in subsequent months. the first symptom to occur was lethargy. Over the ensuing months, irritability, dizziness, depression, and memory loss occurred. She states that when she stopped using aspartmae-containing products in mid-September following a news report, the symptoms improved within 1 day and ceased within 1 week. The complainant subsequently re challenged herself approximately 2 months later with Equal, consuming 4 packets per day for approximately 3 days. She stated that she became dizzy on the third day and that the episode was "very frightening." After these symptoms appeared she stated that she stopped consuming Equal, and approximately 24 hours later the symptoms subsided." (CDC 1984)
Koehler (1988) conducted a double-blind study of patients who had a medical diagnosis of migraines, who were not on medications (other than analgesics) and who suspected that aspartame had a negative effect on their migraine headaches. Following a baseline period where the subjects tracked their headaches and their diets, the subjects were given 300 mg of aspartame or placebo, 4 times daily, for four weeks. The placebo group had no increase in headaches over the baseline levels. Approximately half of the subjects who took aspartame had a large increase in headaches.
The most likely causes for migraines/headaches from aspartame use is the combination of the excitotoxin, aspartic acid, and the formaldehyde metabolites of aspartame as discussed in the Methanol/Formaldehyde document in this section. Ingestion of aspartame leads to a significant and sudden influx of free-form excitotoxic amino acid (Stegink 1987) and methanol (Davoli 1986). The methanol metabolizes into the highly toxic formaldehyde once in the body (DHHS 1993, Liesivuori 1991). Since the aspartic acid is in free form, it is absorbed very quickly, rather than the very slow influx of aspartic acid from the break down of proteins during the digestion of food (Stegink 1987). As will be discussed in the aspartic acid section, the amount of aspartic acid absorbed suddenly is many times the baseline level of plasma aspartic acid.
In 1990, it was hypothesized that migraines and spreading depression were caused by excess excitatory amino acids in the Central Nervous System (CNS) (Welch 1990). These researchers showed a high level of the excitotoxic amino acid, glutamate in the platelets during headaches and during migraines with aura. Brain magnesium (Mg++) was reduced approximately 19% in the brains during a migraine attack (based on NMR spectroscopy measurements). D'Andrea (1991) found increased levels of platelet aspartate and glutamate during migraines with aura. Castillo (1995) found increased levels of plasma glutamate and glutamate in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in patients with headache during the acute phase of cerebrovascular ischemic disease. Cananzi (1995) found increased levels of glutamate in platelets (but not plasma) in patients experiencing migraines with aura. In a study of migraine and children, D'Eufemia (1997) found that aspartate was significantly increased in the erythrocytes (red blood cells) of children suffering from migraine (both with and without aura). The plasma glutamate and aspartate levels were reduced as compared to controls. The excitotoxins were increased in the erythrocytes and decreased in the plasma during migraine in children. The authors conclude:
"These results seem to suggest the presence of a higher activity of the erythrocytes' glutamate/aspartate transport system that could reflect a similar alteration at the neuronal/glial cell level in the CNS. Our study suggests an imbalance of the excitatory amino acid turnover in the pathogenesis of migraine in children."
As pointed out in the Methanol/Formaldehyde document in this section, the formaldehyde/formic acid metabolite of aspartame will likely increase the excitotoxic effects of the free-form aspartic acid absorbed from aspartame.
