<title><![CDATA[BrainMonsoon: Going Beyond the Brainstorm]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you work at a creative agency (Advertising, marketing, PR, sponsorship, digital, etc.), or if you are in one of those departments at a brand, you've no doubt been involved in a brainstorm session. It probably went something like this:</p>
<p>Step 1: Group leader sends out a meeting request, maybe providing some background information. Your response is to think, "Ok, better review that before the meeting." Which you do, about five minutes before the meeting starts.</p>
<p>Step 2: The first 25% of the brainstorm session is used to get everybody up to speed, because A) they were provided with little, or inappropriate prep materials,  and B) they didn't <strong><em>really </em></strong>review it anyway.</p>
<p>Step 3: After an hour or two of flailing about, some half-ideas, most likely ones that don't support business objectives, and most certainly aren't <strong><em>real</em></strong> game changers are gathered up and the project leader goes back to his office to write them up.</p>
<p>Step 4: The next time you hear anything about this project is when the "final concept" is presented.</p>
<p>The time to rethink how to do a brainstorm has come and gone. Your model is broken and trying to fix it isn't going to solve the problem. Sure, you could introduce some gimmicky brainstorm tricks, you know the ones - having balls or toys in the room, breaking into teams and awarding points, asking everyone to say their porn star names (name of first pet and the street you live on) - but that's just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. So, let's start fresh:</p>

<p>Step 1: Let's get rid of the term brainstorm. When I think of a storm, I think of an isolated weather disruption that starts quickly, lasts a little while, then disappears. Kind of sounds like your brainstorms, doesn't it?  I want something bigger, more impactful and longer lasting. Let's hold a <strong>Brainmonsoon</strong>! A monsoon is a season, it totally immerses the local population in a deluge and often leaves a long lasting impression.</p>
<p>Step 2: Sure, go ahead and call that meeting, generate a creative brief as well. But give your colleagues something more. Pique their interest, tell a story, do something that is remarkable or unexpected. In the days leading up to the creative session, send short (:30 - 1:00) YouTube clips, MP3 files and links to blogs that in some way cover your subject. Do a video yourself, explaining your feelings on the project. Leave unusual items in common areas or on people's desks. Have a television in your space? Turn it to a relevant channel and leave it there for a couple of days. All of this is to get people in the right frame of mind, even if it is just subconscious.</p>
<p>Step 3: Don't hold one creative session, hold several. A group of 10, a group of 3. Give half the people a creative brief, tell the others nothing.  Invite someone who doesn't work at your agency, and <strong><em>isn't </em></strong>in a field related to the subject.  There are myriad variations, how do you know which one is going to produce the best result for <strong>this </strong>project? You don't, so try several. And the next time try several more. Don't settle on just one or two ways of holding a session. Keep people out of their comfort zones.</p>
<p>Step 4: Here's where I think a lot of agencies are missing out. You've finally gotten everyone focused, engaged and really thinking about the project, the creative session ends and you let them think: "Okay, I can check that off my list, what's next?"  That's crazy. <strong><em>Now</em></strong> is when you are likely to get some really great ideas, after people have heard from others and had time to evaluate a variety of concepts. Here's where the subconscious goes to work, making connections and coming up with new possibilities.  The day after the creative session, request that eveyone involved take five minutes to do some <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Accidental-Genius-Revolutionize-Thinking-Through/dp/1576750833/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&#38;s=books&#38;qid=1216300747&#38;sr=1-6">private writing</a>. Continuous, non-stop writing without any editing. What ideas did they like, what do they really think of the product/project, what do they think would be an amazing idea... Just keep writing. This should be typewritten and handed in somewhere completely anonymously.  You don't care who is providing the opinion, you just want total uncensored honesty.  After a 24 hour period of contemplation, people will have formed new, or better ideas. Also, some ideas or thoughts will have been self-censored during the creative session.</p>
<p>Step 5: Consider sharing your process with the client. Tell them you didn't hold a brainstorm session, you have a <strong>Brainmonsoon season</strong>. Show them the videos, music files, blogs, images, props and whatever else you used prior to the creative sessions, share with them video highlights of the creative sessions themselves. Show them the 20, 30, 40, 50(!) pages of notes, scribbles, jottings and drawings that were recorded during those sessions. Even share some of the private writing revelations. This will blow your client away. It proves you didn't just spitball ideas for 30 minutes and take the first halfway decent idea. You totally immersed your entire team/agency in the project and the idea you are ultimately presenting is the winning result of a Darwinian, survival of the fittest battle, amongst dozens, even hundreds of ideas you generated and considered.</p>
<p>It's time for a paradigm shift that will change the thinking of your agency/department and produce not only different, but better ideas for your client.  Yes, it's more work, but that's not the point. Was your goal to get an idea as quickly as possible? Or was it to come up with remarkable, memorable, even game changing ideas? What exactly is the 'right' amount of time that should be spent to achieve that sort of result? </p>

<p><em>* O líder.<br />
* Os membros.<br />
* Um(a) secretária.</em></p>
<p><em>Devem ser escolhidas pessoas que tenham alguma experiência com o problema em causa. É necessário não misturar os chefes com os trabalhadores. Devem escolher-se pessoas que estejam no mesmo patamar da hierarquia na organização. A maioria das pessoas não se consegue libertar nem ser suficientemente criativo diante do seu chefe.</em></p>
<p><em>O líder de grupo deve ser familiar com o processo de brainstorming e ter facilidade em manter-se relaxado, e numa atmosfera descontraída.</em></p>
<p><em>A(O) secretária deve ter facilidade na escrita rápida. Esta(e), vai ter que tomar nota de uma numerosa lista de idéias que vão ser geradas. As idéias não têm, necessariamente, de ser escritas exatamente da mesma forma que são ditas. O nome da pessoa que sugere as idéias não deve ser anotado, já que o anonimato encoraja a liberdade de expressão.</em></p>
<p><em>Brainstorming é uma boa forma de pensar e um bom caminho a seguir para a criação de um novo slogan para um produto, ou para um novo tema para uma campanha.<br />
Esta é uma boa forma de pensar e de encontrar idéias para uma história de um jornal ou para uma coluna de uma revista.</em></p>
<p><em>Deve utilizar-se esta técnica para problemas que tenham um final em aberto.<br />
Como em todas as técnicas criativas, o problema deve ser descrito em termos específicos para que idéias específicas possam ser geradas. Generalidades, mesmo as mais brilhantes, são raramente as soluções mais criativas.</em></p>

<p>Ik schrijf deze post vanaf het terras van het Grand Café dat zich op de Bezuidenhoudseweg 50 (ministerie van EZ) bevindt. Ik heb even een WIFI signaal uit de lucht geplukt. Eigenlijk had ik natuurlijk moeten <a href="http://twitter.com/" target="_blank">Twitteren</a>, maar zelfs een innovatieadviseur doet niet mee aan elke trend. Het valt me op dat een groot aantal mensen op het terras met een <a href="http://www.blackberry.com" target="_blank">Blackberry</a> rondloopt. Als men op het Ministerie van Economische Zaken met een Blackberry loopt, onze grootste opdrachtgever, dan moeten we ze bij Syntens ook maar eens invoeren.</p>
<p>Eind mei ben ik gebeld door <a href="http://kleinestappen.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Tammo ter Hark</a> van het <a href="http://www.innovatieplatform.nl" target="_blank">Innovatieplatform</a>. Het Innovatieplatform wil het functioneren van het kennis- en innovatiesysteem kritisch tegen het licht houden en voor doorbraken zorgen. Het Innovatieplatform heeft tot taak de voorwaarden te scheppen, de verbindingen te leggen en de visie te ontwikkelen die nodig zijn om een impuls te geven aan innovatie en ondernemerschap in Nederland. Het platform bestaat uit verschillende sleutelspelers in de kenniseconomie: experts uit politiek, bedrijfsleven, wetenschap en onderwijs. Minister-president Balkenende is de voorzitter van het platform.</p>
<p>Tammo ter Hark kwam mijn weblog tegen en vroeg mij of ik een bijeenkomst bij wilde wonen die gaat over snel en flexibel werken. Omdat ik nog eens iets schrijf over serious gaming en simulatie binnen het MKB vroeg hij of ik input wilde leveren aan deze bijeenkomst. Dit wil ik uiteraard graag doen. Zodoende neem ik samen met mijn collega Remco Bakker deel aan de brainstorming bijeenkomst.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">esses dias comecei a arrumar minhas coisas e encontrei o cd da minha banda querida daqui de brasília. conheci essa banda num show da zélia duncan, num projeto bem legal que tinha por aqui. já fazem doze anos que ouvi pela primeira vez, aí coloquei o cd pra tocar  e: "a vida tá te dando a chance de fazer o que você sente... a vida tá de brincadeira, e pergunta se você quer brincar".</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">12 anos se passaram desde que eu ouvi plástika pela primeira vez. e sabe, eu não creio nas bruxas... pero que las hai, las hai. talvez seja essa coisa de energia, talvez não tenha mais espaço embaixo do tapete ou talvez seja só eu querendo arrumar explicação pra tudo isso. é que me custa acreditar que eu tô atraindo isso tudo pra mim mesma. disse essa semana na terapia: "é como se a vida se encarregasse de arrumar as coisas que eu sempre adiei"</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;">e não se trata de acreditar no destino e na nossa impotência diante dele. mas de exigir uma postura, uma decisão, mesmo que tardia. mostrando que tudo na vida tem conserto. e plástika me surgiu como que pra me alertar pra opção de participar de tudo. e quantas vezes eu, ou todos nós, ignoramos que o lado em branco do dado deixa aberta qualquer possibilidade?</p>

Não apenas por conta das reformas que o governo vem impetrando à sociedade, mas neste último período os acontecimentos tem sido duros. No Rio Grande do Sul a governadora do PSDB enfrentou uma enxurrada de denúncias comprovadas de corrupção e não caiu, mesmo que tenha sido pedido o Fora Yeda! Em São Paulo segue a pouca vergonha da privatização às escuras do metrô, a Alston segue sem nenhuma manchinha na sua história na construção da linha amarela do metrô - sim, aquela mesmo do buraco de Pinheiros e rachaduras em casas da Vila Sônia -, se no Rio Grande do Sul o governo teve manchas em sua reputação, na cidade da garoa isso está longe de acontecer.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">O MST do mesmo Rio Grande de Yeda Crusius foi vítima da mais virulenta ação de criminalização dos movimentos sociais. o Ministério Público e a Brigada Militar propondo a extinção de um movimento social que vem se contrapondo pesadamente contra o agronegócio industrial, prinsipalmente no sul onde encontramos empresas como Monsanto, Cargil, Aracruz Celulose e outras que só acabam com o meio-ambiente.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Periferias em diversas cidades do país são alvo do higienismo burguês que tem como testa de ferro a força policial, um ascenso a galopes da criminalização da pobreza. E para coroar o cara, Daniel Dantas, que tinha quase todos os grandes meios de comunicação do país, era representante do Citybank no Brasil - simplesmente o banco que possuia a representação nas bolsas de valores internacionais das empresas brasileiras que foram privatizadas -, teve participação no mensalão do Lula, nas privatizações do FHC e outras 10 milhões de coisas foi preso e ontem já tinha um Habeas Corpus liberado. Se não é a barbárie por completo é o sinal de que ela vem chegando e aponta qual será o setor mais massacrado por ela, como de costume não os abastados de Higienópolis, Perdizes, Morumbi, Nazaré, Batista Campos, Copacabana, Barra da Tijuca e outros, mas aqueles que se propõe a lutar por uma outra sociedade peitando governos que só pauperizam a população, peitando este sistema que protege a burguesia pouco preocupada co a tal propaga responsabilidade social, esta só serve para um punhado de empresários lotados dos lucros e do dinheiro dormirem confortavelmente em seus travesseiros com enchimento de pena de ganso.</p>

<p>Vi endte med at diskutere hvordan man kan bruge geografisk information på en blog og vores forslag falder i flere forskellige kategorier:</p>

<li>Brugen af geografisk information omkring steder og mennesker nævnt i indlæggene.</li>

</ul>
<p>Man kan ved hjælp af <a href="http://www.geoip.co.uk/">GeoIP</a> finde en lokation ud fra en IP-adresse - omend man skal tage det med et gran salt. Jeg sidder i øjeblikket i Århus og blogger, men GeoIP kan kun udlede at jeg sidder i Danmark og markerer dermed min position til at være midt i DK dvs. ca. Odense. Værre eksempler kan sikkert opleves, så der mangler lidt en god kilde til geografisk information. I nogle tilfælde kan det leveres manuelt, men det er ikke en holdbar løsning for de fleste muligheder som sådan en information giver. Her ville det også være oplagt at bruge mobiltelefoner med GPS, som mulig kilde til geografisk information, hvis f.eks. man surfer via telefonen.</p>

Jeg bilder mig heller ikke ind at de 4 kategorier af geografisk information er dækkende, så hvis du har nogle flere forslag til kategorier vil jeg også meget gerne høre fra dig.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Vor einiger Zeit wieder eine längere Strecke mit dem ICE gefahren (die <del datetime="00">Tiefkühl</del>Klimaanlage könnten sie trotz Hitze etwas dezenter einstellen) und zum Glück einen ruhigen Waggon gefunden. Platzerl mit gutem Blick gesucht und nix getan. </p>
<p>Doch... </p>
<p>... aus dem Fenster geschaut und  erinnert: </p>
<p><em>an die Geographiestunden in der HAK, wo der Prof. die Unternehmen im Mürztal nur so diktiert hat, daß die Federn krachten (oder Kulis ausgingen). Irgendwann mit einem Freund dann in den Schiurlaub gefahren und alles vom Zug aus gesehen. Großes beiderseitiges Aha-Erlebnis gefolgt von Scherzen und Gelächter.</em></p>
<p>.. und Ideen gehabt:  </p>
<p>1.<br />
Nicht nur um es den Geographielehrern leichter zu machen (keiner will sie ersetzen) wärs interessant, einen <strong>Reiseführer für Bahnstrecken</strong> zu erstellen. Schöne Strecken (z.B. Semmering, Gesäuse, ...), belebte Strecken (Westbahn, Südbahn) in einer Map einzeichnen und die interessanten Punkte vermerken und beschreiben. </p>
<p>Ein Ansatz dazu ist bei der <a href="http://www.mariazellerbahn.at/strecke.php">Mariazellerbahn</a> zu finden. Da fehlen halt noch die Sehenswürdigkeiten. Das Ganze dann gleich auf den <a href="http://www.bahn.de/p/view/mdb/pv/4zu3/mobilit_t/MDB12166-videoprogramm_180x135.jpg">Monitoren der Videositze</a>, die es teilweise noch im <a href="http://www.bahn.de/p/view/mobilitaet/zug/audio_video.shtml">ICE</a> gibt. Immer gleich anzeigen, wenn was kommt (Stadt, Land, Fluß ;-) ) und kurzes Featurevideo dazu.<br />
Oder übers Zug-Wlan (GPS-Koordinaten müssten ja im Zug vorhanden sein).<br />
Sponsoren: Frendenverkehrsvereine der Orte, Bahn, ...</p>

"Das ist aber ein schönes Haus". Gleich fotografieren. Und was ist das?<br />
Dafür ein Webservice (<strong>"whats this?"</strong>): Foto hochladen (oder Link auf flickr und Konsorten), mit Kurzinfo, wo es ungefähr ist (Uhrzeit, nächster Bahnhof). Mitglieder können Hinweise geben, das Foto kommentieren, Koordinaten hinzufügen. Für allgemeine Infos gibts jetzt ein Portal "Sims dich schlau". SMS an <a href="http://www.44044.com/">44044</a> schicken (39 Cent zahlen) und Antworten von der Community bekommen. Für jede gute Antwort bekommt man ein Los für die monatl. Ziehung. Kann ja gut sein, daß die Fotos noch dazunehmen. Wär vielleicht auch was für die <a href="http://www.a1innovations.at/de/static/projects">A1-Innovations</a>, wer programmiert einen Prototypen in 7 Wochen? </p>

<p>Το <strong>Ubuntu Brainstorm</strong> έκλεισε <strong>4 μήνες</strong> λειτουργίας! <a href="http://fridge.ubuntu.com/node/1357" target="_blank">Ξεκινώντας στις <strong>28 Φεβρουαρίου</strong> 2008</a>, το <strong>Ubuntu</strong> έδωσε την δυνατότητα στους φίλους του να εκφράζουν ελεύθερα τις ιδέες τους, για ό,τι νομίζουν πως μπορεί να ωφελήσει την εξέλιξη της διανομής ή αλλιώς τι θα ήθελαν να δουν που δεν υπάρχει ή τι να αλλάξει που δεν τους αρέσει κτλ.. Δεν πρόκειται για αναφορά bug (κάτι που γίνεται στο <a href="https://launchpad.net/ubuntu" target="_blank">Launchpad</a>), αλλά για οποιαδήποτε άλλη ιδέα. Την ιδέα εμπνεύστηκαν από την αντίστοιχη κίνηση της Dell, <a href="http://www.dellideastorm.com/" target="_blank">IdeaStorm</a>.</p>
<p>Η δυνατότητα αυτή παρέχεται από στην ιστοσελίδα <a href="http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/" target="_blank"><!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#ff0000;"><!--/coloro--><strong>brainstorm.ubuntu.com</strong><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></a>. Κάθε εγγεγραμμένο μέλος μπορεί να υποβάλει άμεσα μια ιδέα. Στην συνέχεια κάθε μέλος μπορεί να σταθεί θετικά ή αρνητικά απέναντι στη δημοσιευθείσα ιδέα ψηφίζοντας υπέρ ή κατά αυτής. Κάθε μέλος δικαιούται μία μόνο ψήφο για κάθε ιδέα. Έτσι, δίπλα από κάθε ιδέα υπάρχει το <em>αλγεβρικό άθροισμα</em> των θετικών και αρνητικών ψήφων για την κάθε ιδέα, ώστε κάποιες που βρίσκουν πολύ καλή ανταπόκριση από τα μέλη να έχουν άθροισμα μερικές εκατοντάδες ή και χιλιάδες, ενώ άλλες μπορεί να έχουν αρνητικό πρόσημο.</p>

<p>Η προσπάθεια αυτή λειτουργεί και σαν γέφυρα μεταξύ των διαφόρων σημείων στα οποία μπορεί να εμφανιστεί μια ιδέα ή "παράπονο" για τη διανομή, όπως στο <a href="http://ubuntuforums.org/" target="_blank">Ubuntuforums.org</a> και στην <a href="https://launchpad.net/ubuntu" target="_blank">αναφορά bug</a>. Ανάλογα τότε η ιδέα μαρκάρεται με το σηματάκι <img class="linked-image" src="http://www.e-pcmag.gr/forum/uploads//1213897889/gallery_13269_502_346.png" border="0" alt="" />, αν συζητείται παράλληλα στο Ubuntuforums, με <img class="linked-image" src="http://www.e-pcmag.gr/forum/uploads//1214728130/gallery_13269_502_234.png" border="0" alt="" />, αν πρόκειται για bug που δημοσιεύτηκε στο launchpad και με <img class="linked-image" src="http://www.e-pcmag.gr/forum/uploads//1214728130/gallery_13269_502_138.png" border="0" alt="" />, αν ήδη πήρε το δρόμο της εφαρμογής. Έτσι όλα τα παραπάνω συγκεντρώνονται και αφού πάρουν μια σαφή μορφή πρότασης προς εφαρμογή (<a href="https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/" target="_blank">Blueprints for Ubuntu</a>) και εγκριθούν από την ομάδα ανάπτυξης, παίρνουν το δρόμο για υλοποίηση.</p>
<p>Οι ιδέες στην πρώτη εμφάνιση της <a href="http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/" target="_blank">ιστοσελίδας</a> ταξινομούνται εκ προεπιλογής από την δημοφιλέστερη προς την λιγότερη δημοφιλή της <em>ημέρας</em>. Σε έναν απέριττο πίνακα αριστερά-πάνω, μπορείτε να ταξινομήσετε τις ιδέες κατά φθίνουσα σειρά αλγεβρικού αθροίσματος των ιδεών της <em>εβδομάδας</em> ή του <em>μήνα</em> ή στο <em>σύνολο όλων των ιδεών</em>. Για παράδειγμα, στην πολύ χρήσιμη τελευταία αυτή δυνατότητα, μπορείτε να δείτε τις περισσότερο δημοφιλείς ιδέες όλης της διάρκειας λειτουργίας του <strong>Ubuntu Brainstorm</strong>. Εκεί αυτή τη στιγμή θα δείτε μια ιδέα που έχει άθροισμα 5.505! Οι ιδέες μπορούν επίσης να προβληθούν ανά κατηγορία.</p>
<p>Η κατάθεση των ιδεών δεν πιάνει μόνο χώρο... Πολλές από τις ιδέες έχουν γίνουν ήδη πράξη στη διανομή και άλλες έχουν δρομολογηθεί για εφαρμογή σε επόμενες εκδόσεις της διανομής.</p>

A cada dia, refeição sonha-se em almoçar a mais fantástica comida do mundo, para poder degustar cada pedacinho de uma forma que seja eterna, o gosto durar mais tempo no céu da boca e a sensação de plenitude demorar pra deixar nossas papílas gustativas.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">É desejado comida boa, mesmo que não seja a favorita é preciso que aquele prato do dia seja o prato do nosso dia, não se pode querer comer atribuladamente para não sentir o gosto  na língua, mas sim terminar de comer depois de ter vivido cada momento daquele prato e esperando assim o almoço ou jantar seguinte.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Cada garfada, cada ida à boca, cada mastigada e preciso ser única, saborosa e eterna. Pois assim vivemos, em busca da sensação única, o fora da rotina, o sabor a mais que um caldo de carne <a href="http://www.knorr.com.br/">Knorr</a> não nos pode dar, apenas o caldo de carne feito caseiramente consegue nos levar a tal sensação.</p>

<p>People have been sketching user interfaces since the birth of the web (possibly even before) but the sketches usually stay locked away in old notebooks and discarded bar napkins in Austin, Texas. Many of the websites we use started out as scrawlings, and with people like <a href="http://www.nngroup.com/reports/prototyping/video_stills.html">Jakob Nielsen</a> and <a href="http://blog.jonudell.net/2007/05/31/a-conversation-with-bill-buxton-about-design-thinking/">Bill Buxton</a> spreading the gospel of faster, cheaper <a href="http://www.alistapart.com/articles/paperprototyping">paper prototypes</a>, “<a href="http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/03/sxsw-this-years.html">next year’s Twitter</a>” may already exist on paper.</p>
<p>We don’t usually get to see this handmade stage of the web, but some folks have been thoughtful/narcissistic enough to upload photos of their UI sketches, and I find them fascinating.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have a complete blank open template in front of me and many ideas, but I feel like I should proceed with caution. Whatever I decide to dedicate this blog to will be a major decision in how I direct my time and effort. It is tempting and easy to make either a running, or photo themed blog as those activities are what I direct a lot of my attention  towards, but I feel they somehow do not target exactly what I want to get out of my first blogging experience. Some people say blogging is just writing on the internet, but I don't feel the transition from say writing a newspaper column to writing a blog is a logical . Something about how open in its format accesibility, authorship, content type place the blog in that "new media" category. I do not want to write old media - say a forum based around some tangible concrete thing - on new media.</p>
<p>So that still leaves me nowhere. I just thought of this now but what is the rush to define my blog. That sounds like a decidely old media type of thought. I have not editor, parent company, stockholders, teachers, or any other type of authority figure that I need to pan to. I am enjoying writing so why not just continue doing that and see what develops. Even if a certain idea, format, or structure develops, I hope I will still feel free enough to post on whatever piques my interest.</p>
<p>One of the first  olympic "let get to better know our athletes" side stories I can was about an america skier named Picabo Street - in the correct sport she would've been such a cult darling. Anyway, I remember the sage commentator saying that her parent just did not name her for a couple of months after her birth- probably becuase they were busy with Mary Jane. she apparently loved playing the game picaboo and responded to that more than anything else. Her parents started calling her that as a place holder which evidently held for the entire skier's life. I really responded to that story so to borrow the logic of the street I think I will call the blog Picabo unless something better comes along.</p>
