Thanks to the company I work in I was able to visit the Cebit2008 exhibition in Hannover last week. I've been there for three days - that is not really enough to see everything but I have some remarks that I would like to share with in a quick manner ;) :

What I really liked:

the city - tidy, with outstanding communication - subway,trams,buses - I could get fast everywhere I wanted,
the fairground (Messe) - really huge and some of the halls were really impressive - especially the huge wooden roof above one of them,
the germans have 'ordnung' (order) everywhere - nothing is a coincidence - they have everything arranged and ready to rock,
some of the exhibitors had some really nice booths - T-mobile and samsung generally kicked ass,
new asus laptops (the small ones with leather) - great designs and small sizes,
the olympus e420 with the 50mm pancake lens - cool product - good that Olympus resurected the Pancake:),
the samsung quad-hd 50 inch display - well that wasn't the most reasonable thing out there (imagine that there is no way to record and hold the data of this quality - blu-ray discs are only 25gigs ;)) - but anyways it looked great,
a big SUN container on a trailer which acted as a liquid-cooled mobile server :-) cool idea and it really worked,
iF Design exhibition (the hall was always empty:)) where you could see and touch everything listed in the iF Product Design Yearbook 2008,
IBM booth - everyone could see most of their high tech servers and storage solutions - working and running - and the staff was trained to answer all geek questions - good!

And what I didn't:

the weather and german food,
everything was extremely crowded,
Samsung didn't show the cell phones they were yelling about - they didn't want to confirm them either,
Sony's response to iPhone - the Xperia X1 was shown to the public - but it didn't work - what a shame... the forgot about batteries,
the design of new Sonyericsson mobiles - awful!
EEEEEEEEEEE PC - that is so awful - it looks and works worse than most of it's chinese competitors !!!
the Asus Lamborghini models and accessories - still look like crap,
Microsoft and other software companies had really ugly booths,
Huge amounts of modded cases/computers/laptops - without any style i guess - just some bling-bling with thousands of colors,
Benchmarks of the new Geforce (which you could see on several booths - like asus) - the 9800gx2 - were disappointing - the card runs only 30% faster than a 8800gtx - a shame - I hope it was a bad dream and they will do something with the drivers...the card inspite of having two chips has only two ramdacs (my guess) so it has only two monitor interfaces (a fact) - instead of four...another disadvantage.
Intel called their new products ATOM - the name resembles me of the RSS competitor atom... not really a good one - they should stick to Pentium and Core2.

A small conclusion:

Generally the exhibition was fruitful for the companies there - new contacts and new clients for them. ... but nothing really new for the public.

Auf nach Hannover!

Die CeBit, prestige Messe Deutschlands, wenn nicht sogar die größte und bekannteste Messe des Jahres wenn es um zukunftsweisende Technologien geht. Sie öffnete bereits schon am vergangenen Wochenende ihre Pforten und überschwemmt seit ihrer Eröffnung so ziemlich jede Newsseite im Netz mit Neuigkeiten.
Sonst habe ich mich immer mit dem Blick aus der Ferne begnügt aber dieses Jahr betrachte ich alles aus der Nähe und werde live vor Ort dabei sein. Endlich!
Jedes Jahr hatte ich es mir vorgenommen aber meist klappte es nicht. Heute allerdings hatte ich im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes Schwein gehabt. Nun ja mir wurde diese Woche schon öfters Karten angeboten aber diese hatten ihren Preis. Ein Glück das mein Meister heute urplötzlich zwei Karten zu vergeben hatte.
Kurz wurde rumgefragt wer Interesse hätte. Ich konnte einfach nicht nein sagen als sie mir angeboten wurden und griff zu.

Nun breche ich also am kommenden Samstag in aller Herrgottsfrüh nach Hannover auf und das erste mal werde ich Spitzentechnologie live betrachen können. Wer mich kennt der weis das ich der totale Technikfreak bin. Was darf ich am Samstag nicht vergessen mitzunehmen? Richtig! Mein N73 um auch ja alles in Bildern zu dokumentieren. Am Sonntag berichte ich euch dann was ich alles erstaunliches entdeckt habe.

Maior feira de TI da Europa começa nesta terça-feira (04/03); guerra da alta definição é trocada pela aposta nos portátéis.

No primeiro grande evento do mercado de tecnologia após o fim da batalha por conteúdo de alta definição, quem deverá roubar a cena são os equipamentos portáteis. O palco é a CeBIT 2008, que começa nesta terça-feira (04/02) em Hannover, na Alemanha.

Duas semanas após a Toshiba confirmar que não desenvolveria mais o padrão HD DVD, dando a vitória no colo do rival Blu-ray, criado pela Sony, o mercado de tecnologia tem sua primeira chance de voltar suas atenções a novos focos de rivalidade.

Com a vitória, a Consumer Eletronic Show 2008, realizada no começo de janeiro em Las Vegas, foi a última feira do setor a ver um stand em que a Toshiba tentava incentivar a adoção do seu já combalido padrão de mídia de alta definição.

Neste quesito, a computação móvel merece atenção especial não apenas pelo recente investimento de fabricantes em equipamentos ultraportáteis, como também no anúncio feito pela Intel neste domingo (02/03) dando conta do lançamento da plataforma Atom Centrino, que terá chips menores e com melhor consumo de energia para notebooks.

Potencializado pelo lançamento do MacBook Air, o setor de ultraportáteis também foi incentivado pelo anúncio do ThinkPad X300, notebook que deverá brigar com o portátil fino da Apple, e deverá ver novos rivais entrando na batalha, como a Asus, que introduzirá uma versão do Eee PC com tela de 9 polegadas.

A plataforma Atom da Intel para desktops também deverá incentivar o mercado de micros de mesa, principalmente no que diz respeito a máquinas menores para usuários finais ou embarcadas em centros de mídia. Com potencia mínima de 1,8 GHz e 25 milímetros quadrados de tamanho, os chips Atom e Atom Centrino começam a chegar aos fabricantes neste primeiro semestre e também se destinam a outras aplicações, como automotivas, por exemplo.

Na parte ideológica, a CeBIT terá como principal discussão a redução do gasto de energia do mercado de tecnologia incentivado pela Climate Savers Computing Initiative, liderada por empresas como Dell, EDS, Google, HP, Intel, Lenovo e Microsoft.

Asus shows off new lineup of Eee PC add-ons

Most interesting is the Ai Guru U1 VoIP phone. It plugs in with USB, and in addition to letting you make calls to all your broke-ass friends, you can also use it to browse and listen to music stored on the Eee PC. Next up is the Eee AP, which acts as a 802.11g wireless access point and little else -- think AirPort Express minus the sexy. The USB "3.5G HSDPA Card" is just as straightforward, with GSM900 / 1800 / 1900 and WCDMA2100 / 1900 / 850, and download speeds up to 3.6Mbps. The slim DVD-RW drive and the totally generic headsets aren't spicing things up either, which you can probably tell is par for the course here. There's no word on price or availability for any of these yet, but we're guessing none of them will break the bank -- they sure don't look it.
