Keele University’s victorious University Challenge team from 1968 is to take on current students i

Keele University’s victorious University Challenge team from 1968 is to take on current students in a charity re-match chaired by original quiz-master Bamber Gascoigne.

The teams will go head to head to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Keele’s win at the event on Tuesday, October 7, with all proceeds from tickets going to children’s hospice charity the Donna Louise Trust.

The alumni team will be captained by Larry Lawrence (1969 Latin/History), a BBC Brain of Britain winner and Mastermind contender. He will be joined by Paul Brownsey (1970 History/Philosophy), Andy MacMullen (1970 Law/Politics) and Judy Hollingsworth (1968 Biology/Chemistry) from the 1966 team, who is substituting for 1968’s Pam Groves (now Maddison). The reserves are 1964 team members Bob Crockford (1964 French/Economics) and Simon Sweetman (1966 English/Philosophy).

The student team is made up of captain Ben Hockenhull (fifth year undergraduate Medicine), Kathryn Ambrose (PhD Humanities), Rob Russell (MA International Relations), and Adam Cook (MA International Relations & PGCE), with reserves Patrick Kidd (MA Diplomatic Studies) and Andy Hodder (PhD International Relations).

Keele’s 1968 victory took place in the fifth season of the show, beating Jesus College, Cambridge, in the final. Each member of the team received a copy of the Shorter Oxford Dictionary as a prize.

The same team came second in University Challenge Reunited in 2002, a special season marking the 40th anniversary of the quiz, losing to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge (1979 winners) in the final.

Keele’s alumni officer John Easom said: “I am thrilled that the 1968 team and other alumni are returning to Keele to face the Forty Years On Challenge with Bamber Gascoigne. They are excited not just about the quiz but also about meeting current students and seeing how Keele has grown since their influential victory. Keele creates a lifelong affection in its former students and we are delighted to see that loyalty remains so among our Champions of 1968.”

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 7, in the Westminster Theatre, Chancellor’s Building, Keele University, at 7pm. Tickets cost £5 (£3 for students), with all proceeds to the Donna Louise Trust. For more information call 01782 734627 or 01782 734169 or e-mail whatson@kfm.keele.ac.uk

Your Starter For Ten – Keele and University Challenge

* A Keele team was once disqualified because they kept dropping cups of water off the front of their desk (only for them to vanish apparently into thin air) to prove that the two teams weren’t perched one on top of the other but actually side-by-side. Many people didn’t believe that the wonders of camera wizardry could split the screen like that!
* One member of the Jesus College team died between recording and broadcasting the 1968 Final game – his parents agreed to the broadcast as a tribute to their son.
* After the 1968 final the team did two Christmas specials, one in 1969, when they beat the girls of St Hilda’s College, Oxford, and one in 1970, when their own Keele dons beat them decisively.
* The 1973 team had a strategy that if they did not know the answer to a question, they would say Rabbie Burns or Winston Churchill. They hadn’t managed to attempt to answer a question until Bamber said “your starter for ten” and asked a question with a Scottish connection. Team member Martin McArthur buzzed in and answered: “Rabbie Burns”. “Correct” said Bamber and the whole team fell about laughing.
* You can read a bit more about the 1968 team here.

Bonus question – University Challenge

* University Challenge was originally based on an American format called College Bowl.
* Bamber Gascoigne was the first quizmaster – he even used to compile the questions himself and presided until the end of the series in 1987.
* The show was revived in 1994 with Jeremy Paxman as the new quizmaster.
* In a list of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes drawn up by the British Film Institute in 2000, voted for by industry professionals, University Challenge was placed 34th.

One things tourists can do meanwhile in Jakarta is to help the turtle conservations in here. The turtle conservations facility is located in "Pulau Pramuka"(thousand islands region). The tourists can release a couple of months old of turtle hatchlings in this area in exchange of small donations for the facility to maintain the existence. The project also good for the local community to, they attracts more eco-tourist to the region so the fishermen can have an extra income from tourism.

A Grim Outlooks

the turtle hatchlings is very reliable protein pack for the predator. They makes an easy target and can easily die due to other circumstances. The chances of a green turtle to reach adulthood is 1:1000, this means from 1000 baby sea turtle hatched, only one of them can survive the juvenile years and become a hunting target by human in their adulthood. in Bali, almost 20,000 of the sea turtles slaughtered and ends up in dinner plate each year. The eggs are also considered as a delicacy in China and many more country.

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="245" caption="A baby green turtle in nursery in Indonesia. Many of the eggs are being plundered by man to become a delicacy in China. With high mortaility rate, the green turtle's chances to reach adulthood is 1:1000. The figures make the green turtles become a one of the endangered species on earth."]<img title="A baby green turtle in the nursery" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3229/2830484752_9725838d15.jpg" alt="1000.
Getting There

Getting to the facility is easy. Tourists can take a one hour boat ride from Ancol Harbor(Northern End of Jakarta), or if the tourists prefer to rough it, they can take the traditional boats leaving from "Muara Angke" fish market for approximately 5 hours boat ride.

They were greeted with lei and lots of hugs from their email foster parents Wednesday.

The foster parents have been in contact with the children for the past few years, but for many it was the first time they held them in their arms.

It was a special moment for foster parent and child.

"I've waited for three years to meet Tola my foster child," said Patty Lee."It was the most wonderful feeling to see her and hold her in my arms"

"I don't know how to say it," said Chanthy Pon, "My heart is full of the meaning of love, it is really beautiful and wonderful for me."

Families here in Hawaii, have been supporting the children at an orphanage in Cambodia, providing money for their education and emotional support for the ones who have lost their parents.

The 30 children are here for two weeks to not only spend time with their foster families but also to share their cultures.

I visited the Congolese family today bringing over my daughter and the 8 month old whom I am watchin

I visited the Congolese family today bringing over my daughter and the 8 month old whom I am watching this week. We chatted and then the mother invited me to eat with them. I said "yes!"

So we sat around the table and she had multiple platters. First, we each had our own dish and it was the salmon steaks we had given them in a tomato type broth. Then she had a platter of cooked cabbage with onions with what looked like tomato color on it? Then she had a big pile of dough in the middle of the table. No forks, or spoons. I was all game.

First she did the blessing and she started out with the prayer that every Catholic around the world understands without knowing each others' language. She did the Sign of the Cross. (I love that there are commonalities with our Faith!) And they prayed over the food. Then the youngest boy grabbed my attention and began to show me how to eat. He first grabbed a piece of dough and rolled it in his hands. He then used the dough to grab the food on the plate and then place the food in his mouth. I copied him and found it was a bit tricky to get all the food in my mouth without making a mess. I watched some more and realized that my technique was off, so I did exactly what they did and had more success. I should mention that my daughter was all-over-it. What? We get to eat with our HANDS? Yay! She told me she wants to eat like ******'s family from now on! I looked at that dough and thought, "this is familiar! This is like the Mexican tortilla!" In Mexico, you don't use utensils. You use the tortilla to eat with.

Do you know that when you eat without utensils, there is very little clean up? Talk about environmentally friendly AND mom friendly! Less work. Seriously, these Africans are on to something.

I should mention that the food was DE-LI-CIOUS! It is amazing how we can use the same ingredients and make them taste so different! I love cabbage. Tomato. Salmon. Broth. Salt. Onions. I have never had them taste like that, though.

For readers of mine who are not readers of hers, Jenny posted a link to the blog of two men who are cycling across the country to benefit Heifer International. I told her I thought it sounded like a great idea, but I have a nerve (in my ass which I guess is important to the story) that basically makes riding a bike for more than about five minutes painful.

It's not just painful for me—it's painful for anyone who happens to see me. Anyway, she suggested we walk across the country since I excel at walking (it's pretty much my second greatest skill after talking about nothing for a very long time).

We are going to do it. It's not imminent; it will be years from now, but one day, she and I will take a walking tour of the US. Anyone who thinks walking cross-country with Heckle and Jeckle would be amusing is free to put in an application (there will be a screening process).

Even if this is years off, I started a mental list

Socks, foot powder, deodorant
Laptop, MP3 player
Chocolate, stone-ground grits
Dr. Pepper syrup (I have a source) for making our own soda
My Egyptian stone hippo, which I will photograph in hundreds of locales

PS. Heckle and Jeckle- I'm not positive if I am the one with the fake English accent or the one with the fake Brooklyn accent, but I think it's the former.

PPS. While walking for an indeterminate time with other people could be vexing, problematic, even potentially dangerous, it could also be the greatest adventure a person ever experiences.

I vote this as the best sermon of all ….
Prophet Muhammad’s sermon on fasting and Rama

I vote this as the best sermon of all ....

Prophet Muhammad's sermon on fasting and Ramadhan.

"O People! Indeed ahead of you is the blessed month of Allah. A month of blessing, mercy and forgiveness. A month which with Allah is the best of months. Its days, the best of days, its nights, the best of nights, and its hours, the best of hours.

It is the month which invites you to be the guests of Allah and invites you to be one of those near to Him. Each breath you take glorifies him; your sleep is worship, your deeds are accepted and your supplications are answered.

So, ask Allah, your Lord; to give you a sound body and an enlightened heart so you may be able to fast and recite his book, for only he is unhappy who is devoid of Allah's forgiveness during this great month.

Remember the hunger and thirst of the day of Qiyamah (Judgement) with your hunger and thirst; give alms to the needy and poor, honor your old, show kindness to the young ones, maintain relations with your blood relations; guard your tongues, close your eyes to that which is not permissible for your sight, close your ears to that which is forbidden to hear, show compassion to the orphans of people so compassion may be shown to your orphans.

Repent to Allah for your sins and raise your hands in dua during these times, for they are the best of times and Allah looks towards his creatures with kindness, replying to them during the hours and granting their needs if he is asked...

"O People! Indeed your souls are dependant on your deeds, free it with Istighfar (repentance) lighten its loads by long prostrations; and know that Allah swears by his might: That there is no punishment for the one who prays and prostrates and he shall have no fear of the fire on the day when man stands before the Lord of the worlds.

"O People! One who gives Iftaar to a fasting person during this month will be like one who has freed someone and his past sins will be forgiven."

Some of the people who were there then asked the Prophet (s): "Not all of us are able to invite those who are fasting?"

The Prophet (s) replied: "Allah gives this reward even if the Iftaar (meal) is a drink of water."

"One who has good morals (Akhlaq) during this month will be able to pass the 'Siraat'...on the day that feet will slip...

"One who covers the faults of others will benefit in that Allah will curb His anger on the day of Judgement...

"As for one who honors an orphan; Allah will honor him on the day of judgement,

"And for the one who spreads his kindness, Allah will spread His mercy over him on the day of Judgement.

"As for the one who cuts the ties of relation; Allah will cut His mercy from him...

"Who so ever performs a recommended prayer in this month Allah will keep the fire of Hell away from him...

"Whoever performs an obligator prayer Allah will reward him with seventy prayers [worth] in this month.

"And who so ever prays a lot during this month will have his load lightened on the day of measure.

"He who recites one verse of the holy Quran will be given the rewards of reciting the hole Qur'an during other months.

"O People! Indeed during this month the doors of heaven are open, therefore ask Allah not to close them for you; The doors of hell are closed, so ask Allah to keep them closed for you. During this month Shaytan (Saten) is imprisoned so ask your Lord not to let him have power over you."

The perfect recipe for a fruitful Ramadhan .... insya'Allah!

· Create a Ramadan Wind Sock - just for fun! Supplies needed: A cylindrical cardboard oatmeal box, construction paper, crepe paper streamers, glue, string, scissors, hole punch. Cut the bottom off a cylindrical cardboard oatmeal box. Cover the box with construction paper (any colors you like). Write on the box "Welcome Ramadan" or "Ramadan" or "Blessed Ramadan" or any other saying you would like. Cut some crepe paper streamers and glue or staple them to one end of the wind sock. Punch four holes along the top of the wind sock. Cut two pieces of string about a foot long. Tie the strings to the wind sock (tie the opposite ends of a string to holes on opposite sides of the cylinder). Tie a longer piece of string to the smaller pieces - you'll hang the wind sock from this piece of string. Hang your wind sock from your window or porch. Obviously, you can also do this for Eid.

· Have your child create their own Ramadan book. You can use construction paper or plain paper 8 1/2 x 11. On each page draw/print out items related to Ramadan - such as "Surah's I have learned" and "Hadith I have learned" and "Good Deeds I have done." You can have them do this project each year so they can remember the milestones they have reached each year. I would also recommend having a page regarding things they would like to improve/work on in the coming year as well.

· Create a scrapbook to remember how this Ramadan is spent (A Ramadan Memory Book) and their memories of this Ramadan. Your children can make one to write or if you child is younger, you can write it down for them and allow them to decorate it or draw pictures to correspond with what is written. Your child can put things in there such as who they broke fast with (if you had visitors or if you went to the Masjid), what types of charity they made (helping others, being nicer to siblings, etc), things/lessons they learned this Ramadan, things they are trying to improve, etc.. You can also put things such as Duas I have made, Qur'an I have learned, etc. The older the child, the more intricate the book. For younger children - you can work to help them understand the concepts and then have them tell you what to write. Then, you can allow your child to decorate the book.

· Make a moon chart - have your child look at the moon each night and draw the way it looks on that day. This way, they can be more familiar with the lunar cycle and we can explain to them how the Islamic calendar is based on the phases of the moon and why - this could be tailored for any age group (I think). I am intending to do this, insha'Allah and I intend to also print out a sample chart of how the lunar cycle looks so we can keep track of it.

· Create an "I can" scrapbook. Materials needed - scrapbook or papers stapled together to form a scrapbook, samples of your child's artwork, glue. As your child has mastered skills this year, you can put it in their "I can" scrapbook. For example, label one page "I can paint" and glue a picture that they have painted on this page. Glue in other samples such as "I can color," I can cut," "I know my shapes," etc. Of course - for older children you can write "I can write Arabic" or "I learned Surat An-Nas," etc. This is a way to give them a sense of accomplishment for the things they have learned and a way that you can teach them to be thankful to Allah for the knowledge He has given them. You can use verses from the Qur'an or Hadith to show that Allah gives us knowledge.

· For ages 3-9 Hadith Flower Pot - You'll need colored construction paper, hadith printed on white paper. Cut a flower pot design out of construction paper. Make stems out of green construction paper. Make flower designs out of assorted colored construction paper. Glue stems to pot and flowers to stems. I personally would glue the whole thing to a nice colored constructoin paper. Write a hadith onto a white piece of paper and glue it onto the pot and decorate as desired. Each week you can create a new pot featuring a new hadith you want your child to memorize. Place the paper where your child will see it and remind them how the hadith is stated.

· For ages 6-12 Another creative way to display a hadith your child is attempting to learn - create a hanging display out of craft sticks, glue, construction paper, markers and ribbon or yarn. Have the children (for younger children you can write it yourself) write the hadith onto wooden craft sticks (recommend a thin point Sharpie). Cut a section of construction paper to lay the sticks on (needs to be large enough to lay out all the sticks). Then, glue the sticks (in order) onto the construction paper. Have the children use markers/crayon/glitter/stickers/etc., to decorate any paper that is not covered by the sticks. Then, punch two holes at the top of the paper and tie with ribbon to hang whereever you would like. Let the project dry completely and then enjoy!

· For ages 4-8. Another creative way to display a hadith your child is attempting to learn - create a chalkboard out of craft sticks, glue, construction paper, markers/crayons, small magnet. Write the hadith on a rectangle of white paper. Cut the black construction paper into a larger rectangle. Give each child two jumbo craft sticks, two craft sticks and a piece of black construction paper. Glue the craft sticks to teh edge of the paper. Give each child a piece of the white paper with the hadith written on it. Have them color it and glue it to the black construction paper. Glue the small magnet to the back of the construction paper. After the glue has dried, hang the chalkboard onto the refrigerator.

· Not too long ago I was having problems with my daughter listening to me. I created positive reinforcement cards (a.k.a. love coupons). They are small cards (index card size or smaller) that I would give her when she would really amaze me with her good behavior. For example she would clean her room without moaning and groaning or help her sister when her sister was hurt. On each card (coupon), I put things that I was willing to do with her anyway as a prize – such as “Read a story with mommy” or “Family Game Night” or “go for a walk” or “go to the park”. Then, whenever I saw her acting really well – I would tell her she could have a card. Then, when we had a chance that week – we would do whatever was written on the card as a reward. She never expected these cards, but she fully enjoyed redeeming them and her behavior improved (a lot of times children just need us to notice them when they are being good but with housework, other children, etc., it can be hard). This could be a good way to get our children on the path to improving their behavior with a little help and hopefully it will be fun for all involved.

· Thankfulness Project - Print off leaves or any other shape you prefer to use. Each night at dinner - or perhaps after dinner - have everyone in the family write down on a leaf something they are thankful for. Put the leaves in a basket near the table so you can do the same each night of Ramadan. After Ramadan - the whole family can gather together to look over the leaves and relive the memories of what they had written down. This would provide a good discussion on those who are below us - meaning those who do not have all that we have in our lives. To take it even farther - you could try to think as a family how you could share these Blessings from Allah with others.

· Since Ramadan is a time to remember Allah's blessings, sharing them with others and being thankful - why don't you have your children write a note or make a craft and give it to someone special in their lives. If you write a note - if they are young, have them tell you why they are thankful for knowing this person. If they are older - have them make the note/card themselves. Too often we pass up chances to thank people for sharing their lives with us and sharing this beautiful religion of ours. This is also a reminder to ourselves - let people know how much knowing them has added to your life - you will be glad you did!

· Since Ramadan is also a time when we try our best to repent and seek Allah's forgiveness, teach your child to seek forgiveness from others, as well as Allah. If they have done something wrong - now might be a good time to ask for forgiveness. Have them write up a card or just simply do something nice for the other person involved (for example a Sister or a friend whose toy they had broken). Try your best to help the child find ways to make amends for the situation and teach them the value of "owning up" to one's mistakes and asking for Forgiveness.

· Have a talk with your child - discuss with them good behaviors and bad behaviors. Ask them what they would improve about themselves and why (for example, share my toys with my Sister). You can set up a chart to see how they progress during Ramadan. Also, you can look through history (Qur'an & Sunnah & Historical stories) to see examples of people who had the same problem and how them overcame it. Discuss with them how they can improve.

Sometimes, especially living in Western countries and even nowadays in Islamic societies surrounded

Sometimes, especially living in Western countries and even nowadays in Islamic societies surrounded by Western ideas and expectations, it is hard to keep young children interested in participating in acts of worship when they would rather be watching TV, playing on the playstation or on the internet. It is very important that as parents that we model the actions and behaviors that we want our children to emmulate and follow. There are many examples from the sahaba that we can follow and also new ones that we can share from amongst ourselves.

Below is an example of a calender for the month of Ramadan. Each day has a pocket in which a child will choose and see what is hidding inside. Sometimes it will be a special type of candy that they never have had or, in our case they only get candy during Ramadan and Eids. Or it will be a colorful paper that has something written on it that will encourage them to do good deeds during this special month.

Such things could be reading a surah or aya depending on level of the child, with their father/mother etc., donating a certain amount of their own allowance to the poor, doing another form of charity for a needy person, such as helping an elderly couple clean their yard, offer to do their grocery shopping, or collecting clothing, books and toys for a poor family. If your family is not that adventurous, it can be something like having an older brother reading a story at bedtime to the younger kids, or teaching them to play a new game or some new surahs from the Quran.

This particular one was made from left over pieces of material from another project with loops at the top that just slide over a stick that can be placed just about any place in order to hang it.

Other traditions are lighting the fanouse that have Islamic designs on it. Another fun thing to do as a family is to take one or two hadith that a child chooses out of a book such as Riyadh us-saliheen and discuss it around the family table as you are breaking fast. Also after breakfast make it a tradition to sit as a family and take turns reading from the same surah out loud so that the family is tied together in a stronger bond and brings out the essence of Ramadan.

Brainstorm and see what kinds of traditions your family has already or what can you start to make Ramadan important and a focus in your life, and to build and strengthen your iman and ibadah as a family.

May Allah increase us in knowlege and faith

Rare Bird Finds included a non-shopping site today. Free Rice is a website where you can answer trivia questions and rice is donated for each correct answer. Sounds simple, no?

I encountered this site last year on Shelfari. It was being promoted as an easy way to help feed the hungry but I was immediately suspicious. The site seems to be affiliated with the UN World Food Program and it appears legit. Sponsors (aka advertisers) pay the site owner for each "click" and millions of grains of rice have been donated.

However ... do the math and you'll see that your little bit of game playing doesn't generate much rice.

400 g of rice per person per day = 19200 grains of rice = 960 questions answered correctly

Their numbers are huge! Could that many people really be answering questions every day? How much do the sponsors pay and what percent is actually used to buy and distribute rice? Lance Wiggs has already done the math for us. As of November 2007, the site owner had spent about $30,000 on rice and had made approximately $320,000 profit. Brilliant.

Nestled in the northern part of Orange County, bordering Los Angeles County suburbs, is a quiet, family-oriented bedroom community known as the City of La Habra. The area is special to me because I grew up not too far from there.

In the time that's passed, I've seen many businesses come and go, with some family-owned establishments still standing. Old shopping malls have been replaced with movie theater meccas and strip malls, while undeveloped land has turned into golf-course housing associations. Then there are businesses that remain, but have undergone new ownership. Pizza Club La Habra is one of them.

Bought by Mark and Tammy Perez four years ago, the space occupying 1279 E. La Habra Blvd. continues as a down-home, family-friendly pizza joint, with even more activities and good grub for the local community. When I visited for lunch, the restaurant hosted a summer-school pizza outing for St. Mark's Elementary School (where I attended by the way for three years as a child).

Even healthy eaters can savor a variety of salads (or a carnivore, more gluttonous version such as the antipasto salad above), while those not in the mood for a yummy cheesy pie can enjoy pasta dishes, broasted chicken or appetizers that include mozzarella sticks, mushrooms and zucchini.

Children (and big kids) can enjoy a wide-open space for playing pinball and video games while sports lovers enjoy ample TV screens for watching big games. For this, it's all about the beer and wine menu with occassional specials on bottles and pitchers.

Now that NFL season is starting, you can enjoy the big games in their festive and warm environment. Click here to see their calendar.

Right now through Oct. 31, 2008, you can qualify to win a gift certificate for housekeeping service if you order online. If you live in the area, click here to do that!

------------------------------

Pizza Club La Habra

Price per person: $7 - $25 (with alcohol).

Pies are economical for families, $16 for an x-large, $4 for individual pizzas

Saw this on Danny Choo and just had to make a post about this on my own. 1000 yen for a Squeeze a charity drive of sorts that is used to help fund the AIDS research. What makes this erotic? For 1000 yen you are able to feel up an Adult AV Idol to help the cause.

Interesting idea if you ask me and has already raised a lot of money in the process.

TOKYO - It is a recent Sunday afternoon inside the offices of adult video broadcaster Paradise TV. Two enthusiastic female voices can be heard counting from behind a pair of covered booths: “Ichi, ni, san, shi, go!”

The entry flap of one booth is labeled with the kanji character pronounced ushiro (behind) and colored pink, the other is yellow and marked oppai (breast). Outside is a line of five men, each of whom is eagerly awaiting his turn to grab (with both hands) the bare buttocks and breasts of two adult video (AV) actresses five times for 1,000 yen - with all the proceeds being used for research to prevent the spread of the HIV virus and AIDS.

“I am so proud to have been selected for such a worthy cause,” says the curvy Aya Natsuki, 25, a veteran of roughly 50 AV films who ceded each of her buns for 100 yen per squeeze. “As well, this is an opportunity for me to communicate much more directly with my fans.”

Each year Paradise TV, a channel which specializes in wacky porn programming, holds its annual “24-Hour TV: Eroticism Saves the Earth” fund drive to raise money for the prevention of AIDS, a condition that continues to be a worsening problem in Japan.

Last year, donations totaled 2 million yen. Paradise expects this year to see a 50% increase in pledges, which have come from as far as away as North Carolina. Satellite provider SKY PerfecTV, which hosts Paradise broadcasts, and the Japan Foundation for AIDS Prevention are supporters.

In February, the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare reported that the number of new infections of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, reached a record high of 1,048 in 2007. The ministry’s AIDS Surveillance Committee revealed that the number of cases of AIDS over the same period reached 400. The total number of 1,448 represented an increase over the year before for the fifth consecutive year.

Original article here

Now for my input on this, there really is no sense on my posting about this and refraining to put my own opinion. I really believe this is a great idea for helping the cause. It will easily raise money and the actresses are more than happy to do it as it would seem. Of course are perviness of my own being aside I would like to help the cause myself. For more sake of my children when they grow up. Also grabbing the breasts of one of those girls is not a bad idea either. (My gf would hit me XD so let me add a "jk" to that last comment)

As my question to the readers I would like to know, would you like to help the cause out? Would you do it for truly helping of the oppai? Also what other clever ways can you think of to help out?

The last question I actually did have an idea. Most people would love to get even closer to their idols. Why not have auctions for the idols clothing? Not to say I would partake in this, but wouldn't an idols used underwear be worth more than a random school girl? ^_^

Now he shares his wisdom with us all—and at a bargain price!" —Tom Brokaw, Interim Moderator of NBC Meet the Press, former anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News

“Ren Levy is the master of his trade. He can squeeze big dollars out of a stone and he tells here just how to do it. Anyone raising money for a good cause must read this book!" —John C. Whitehead, former Co-Chairman and Senior Partner of Goldman Sachs

September 3, 2008—Almost every American makes charitable donations. In 2007 alone, Americans gave $306 billion to charity—this sum represents 2.3% of the average pre-tax income of Americans and 80% of all households. For each of the last five years, Americans contributed more to their favorite organizations than they saved for themselves. Yet, giving is not a spontaneous act. People donate because they are asked to do so. It is a puzzle that, while the act of giving to nonprofit institutions is hardly unusual, the art of asking seems so universally disliked, misunderstood, and disdained. YOURS FOR THE ASKING (John Wiley & Sons; $29.95; September 2008) is a how-to guide for anyone wishing to improve the effectiveness of his or her fundraising. It explains in easy to understand language how to reach wealthy people face to face, in writing, in large groups, at special events, and over the Internet.

Author and President of Lincoln Center, Reynold Levy has led the effort to raise over 1 billion dollars in six years, among many other notable fundraising distinctions. “YOURS FOR THE ASKING has been written for anyone who wishes to overcome the fear of asking friends and strangers for money,” said Levy. “It is designed for those who wish to improve the effectiveness of their fundraising, and it is motivated by the conviction that orders of magnitude more charitable funds are available to prevent and cure disease, eliminate poverty, expand education and relieve the misery of the bottom billion human beings who find themselves seemingly fated to occupy the lowest rung of the economic ladder.” YOURS FOR THE ASKING works to solve the mystery of fundraising from foundations that seem to house experts in closing doors, ignoring solicitations, and, when pressed for an answer, saying no. It also demonstrates how many ways there are to tap the resources of donors—large and small—for the institution that commands respect, affect, and attention.

Coverage in the book includes:

Soliciting individual donations

Face-to-face donor solicitation

Cultivating donors through fundraising events and direct mail

Answers to tough fundraising questions

Charitable giving from companies and foundations

Bringing humor to fundraising

Future trends in fundraising

YOURS FOR THE ASKING distills Levy’s experience in requesting help, soliciting support and asking for money into an easy-to-read, action oriented, and inspiring manual. It’s the ultimate guidebook for every fundraising professional working in a small, medium sized and large organization running the gamut from health to education, from the arts to humanitarian causes, from think tanks and advocacy groups to community-based outfits and social services providers, and from the established to the fledgling.

okay, so what I haven't written a post in a month I've been busy. You know how it is kids, work, etc. Honestly, I haven't had a desire to write a post because I've been dealing with depression, and looking for a new home. From time to time I have a run in with depression and sometimes I let him get the best of me, but not this time, I've conquered depression and he has no part of me anymore, now I can function long enough to write a post, that God I am back.

I've also been looking for new home, something bigger (still renting) and I've found it, we moved in last weekend and I am still unpacking. I have to unpack 4 years worth of memories I had stored in the attic. Memories from when Pk was born and stuff, just a bunch of junk. I had a yard sale to get rid of some, but thanks to Faye we were rained on so, most of the stuff may be sold on Craigslist. Lots of it is brand spanking new and I need some extra cash so, that will help me a lot.

I've decided I can't handle being a WAHM and homeschool so, I sent my daughter to preschool and my son will be off to daycare in a week or so. The first week of preschool for my daughter was an experience, the first day she loved it, the rest of the days she cried, but whenever Dad take her she's okay, so may be I am the problem in that situation.

I've also started working with a few of the local shelters and charities to fulfill my purpose, that helped me conquer depression dealing with so many people who have way more problems than me, dealing with drug addiction and not having custody of their chidren. I see I have alot to be thankful for dealing with the volunteer work. I've started a charity drive at three of the shelters here and I've gotten everyone I know involved.

So, between kids, work, voluteer work and everything going on in my life, I've been too busy to blog but, believe me I do have a lot to talk about, trust me, so, just a heads up I'm back, I'm making my blog a priority and you may get tried of my ramblings. Looking forward to writting again hope your interested in my topics.

Well folks, its getting close to the deadline for the Easter Seals Drop Zone Rappel, and despite countless hours spent on the phone, canvassing and fund-raising, I'm still falling embarrassingly short of the minimum pledge of $ 1500.00. Should I not reach this amount by the 13th, I won't be allowed to rappel, which is sad for two reasons : it means I failed to reach my goal for helping kids who rely on fundraisers like this to get the assistance they desperately need, and, I wont get to wear a superhero costume while jumping off a building. : (

This is a great cause, and even a small donation makes a difference. If anyone works for a company that might be interested in a corporate donation, or matching funds, that would be awesome. You can get in conatc with me through the contact page with any ideas or suggestions and /or questions. The person or the company who makes the largest single donation will get the privilege of choosing the superhero I jump as, so come on, help some kids and have some fun doing it. All the information is at the page link at the top, and the link to the donation page is here: https://payment.csfm.com/events/bclions/dropzone_van/visitor/index.php?action=profile&participant_id=714627551218950043

Thanks to those who have already stepped up, I hope I don't disappoint you !
