Finding Coupons for Online Shopping

There are many different coupons and promotional codes available for online shopping. The most common types of coupons and promotional codes available are those which offer a discount on the total purchase price of an order and promotional codes which offer free shipping on an order. Both of these offers can be financially beneficial to the shopper if he is able to find these valuable offers. There are a number of different ways in which a shopper may acquire coupons and promotional codes for online shopping.

Many online shoppers receive promotional codes for online retailers in catalogs they receive in the mail. These catalogs may include special offers in an attempt to entice the recipient of the catalog to make a purchase online. The shopper may receive these catalogs because they have made purchased from the online retailer in the past or because the online retailer is advertising to new clients.

Similarly shoppers may receive promotional codes offering discounts via email. This is common for shoppers who belong to buyer’s club organized by the online retailer. These types of clubs typically offer these promotional codes to regular customers to reward them for their consumer loyalty and encourage the shopper to continue to patronize the online retailer.

Still another way for shoppers to find promotional codes for online shopping is via the Internet. There are websites where members frequently post the codes they acquire via catalogs and emails for the benefit of others who may be seeking a discount on a purchase from a particular online retailer. Shoppers can use these promotional codes as long as there are no restrictions on sharing these codes.

Restrictions on Coupons for Online Shopping

Shoppers who utilize coupons and promotional codes while they are online shopping should be aware there may be restrictions on the use of these coupons or promotional codes. Common examples of these restrictions include dates of expiration and required minimum purchase to use the discount. Similar to coupons which are valid at traditional stores, online coupons or promotional codes usually have an expiration date and the discount is no longer valid after this date. Another common restriction associated to offers of free shipping is a minimum required purchase. In these cases the consumer must purchase more than a specific dollar amount from the online retailer in order to be eligible for free shipping. Another example of a common restriction on online coupons or promotional codes is a required minimum purchase necessary to receive a discount. In some cases the online retailer may even offer a greater discount to shoppers who are willing to spend more money on products or services. For example the retailer may offer a 10% discount on purchases of more than $50, a 15% discount on purchases of more than $75 and a 20% discount on purchases of more than $100. With all of these different types of restrictions on online discounts it is important for the consumer to fully understand these restrictions before attempting to use one of these offers.

If you figure what I actually paid vs. what I normally pay -

96 packages of Diapers

Paid 144.00- 4.50 for each transaction (including tax)

Normally (for brand name same size) - 720$!!!  And that is if they're on sale (7.50 each) NOT including tax!!!

I bought diapers for my nephew, my son and daughter, and for my future nephew or neice!  I'll probably end up keeping about 70 packs for us.  Now I have to figure out what all I want to buy with my OODLES of Register Rewards!!!

gWallet's tagline is "reinventing the way you shop", interestingly close to the first iteration of iLetYou as "reinventing renting".

Gurbaksh Chahal, founder of BlueLithium which sold to Yahoo, is the poster boy for his third startup.

I'm generally super-critical of any startup that attacks a stronghold market with a product that's marginally better.  gWallet is obviously being touted as revolutionary, but from I haven't seen as much from what I've seen about gWallet so far.

In this particular example, it's very clear that comparison shopping search and merchant aggregation community (especially surrounding coupons and deals) are very lucrative and profitable spaces.

Become.com and RetailMeNot are recent and even more recent, respectively, examples that seemingly entered when there were already many established players.  Revisiting these two examples right now, Become.com seems a little Web 1.0 while RetailMeNot's secret seems to be clean user experience incorporating social elements of voting and user-generated coupons/content (but probably a lot of competency in core areas such as SEO and PR is the real reason).

On the other hand, there is just so much value to be extracted from this whole coupon/deal/savings space.  Lots of companies do it well, but is it really a cornered market?  So I am definitely wondering if Gurbaksh Chahal understands this much: that by competently applying a marginally better experience to an inherently lucrative and not completely efficient space can translate to a huge win.  Because I'm not personally seeing the ace in the hole quite yet.

Thoughts or anything else to add?

I have a pretty good stockpile going now - something new to me.  I'll have to organize and take a picture to show off all my good deals!!!

I will say that the first week was really hard.  I had to go back to the hospital the day after I was released for dehydration, vomiting and an adverse effect to my pain medication.

I often hear stories about people who wait in the ER waiting room for long periods of time before they are admitted, so I was worried on my way back to the hospital that I would have to wait.  Well, they took one look at me, and how swollen my face was, that they took me right back.  I think I sort of freaked them out a bit.  I looked like I had a softball stuffed in each cheek.  I didn't know my face could swell up that big.

The good news is that I don't have to worry about becoming addicted to the pain medication.  I discovered that I get really sick if I take narcotics.  Now I'm just gutting it out with Tylenol and Motrin.

Not overall, just when it comes to my coupons, freebies, and scoring deals at Walgreens. I don't think he thinks I'm crazy for wanting to save money or for getting so much free stuff. (The 5 free deodorants I've gotten him should have helped with that!) It's just that I've invited him on a freebie-shopping trip twice now, and both times...it's been a couponer's nightmare.

The first time was a trip to Walgreens to do a PG Register Rewards deal that totally flopped at the checkout. (My fault. Wasn't watching the product size.) I'm not going to relive that one just now; the latest one is more entertaining.

So I come back from retirement from couponing briefly because I see how many great Walmart deals are going on, and how many of them use internet coupons (which I can easily get), and how many of the deals get you free stuff. Ok, I decide, I'll do these deals. Well, my dear bf offers to go with me, so one evening we go to our local Walmart. I'm not sure at what point he regretted going with me.

• Problem #1: The Walmarts around here are not Super Walmarts, like I am used to. So, some of the grocery items on my list are crossed off.
• Problem #2: Inventory is being taken, and because of this, many aisles are blocked off. The store has literally become a maze. You actually had to figure out how to progress through the store.
• Problem #3: When we get to the checkout, I face coupon issues. The checkout lady was really nice, but she apparently didn't have a lot of experience with coupons (or maybe it was just the printouts), and so she took a looooong time. Granted, I had a coupon for everything but one item...but the line behind me was growing...and suddenly...
• Problem #4: The lights went out. Seriously. I briefly thought I'd overloaded their system w/all my coupons and sent it into automatic shutdown or something. She's getting too much free stuff! Abort! Abort! Shut all systems down, now! Employees with flashlights appear and tell the checkers they have 30 minutes to finish checking out the people in line, and others begin leading stray customers to the front of the store. My nice checkout lady finishes checking my coupons, by the light of my cell phone. Bless her heart.

FINALLY, I was able to escape the nightmare. My patient but embarrassed bf jokes about me overloading them and making the electricity go off. He has seen two bad deal-hunting trips like this, so I don't think he's going to be joining me on the next one. :)

Coloring book, Welch's Drinks (same deal as the diapers - July and Aug ES), some plastic cups for my daughter, elastic for the new cover for my daughter's chair, Goo Gone for getting the labels off the bottles I reuse for crafts, and some candy!  Hooray for an awesome deal!

I bought 3 packs of diapers for 5.99/each

Used the July Easy Saver Coupon ($5/2 - but it scans 2.50 off each package)

Used the Aug Easy Saver Coupon (Same as July)

And kept my register rewards for the extra stuff at the end.

17.97 - 7.50 - 7.50 = 2.97 (which I paid) THEN - my 5$ Register Reward printed off!

I did this 3 times (For 15$ in RR) then scanned the other stuff and paid with my register rewards!  After everything I spent less than 15$ INCLUDING tax!

I HAVE TO ADD ---

The Aug Easy Saver did not scan - the manager had to key in the discount - but the RR printed without problem!  Thanks Mr Pederson!  I'll be calling to give you a good review!
