Good evening, and welcome to Riel Talk. Today, I have no witty punditry or other form of political commentary for you, so I'm just going to talk about whatever the hell I please.

Thoughts on Troy (2004): Achilles is an asshole. Paris is the stupidest fool ever. Ajax is a monster. I like the blood, I dislike the bastardization of Homer's epic.

Which allows me to segue into my next point: Since "epic" has become synonymous with anything good, let me mention Oceanlab. They are epic/good vocal trance. I particularly like Sirens of the Sea (2008).

THERE IS NO RELATION BETWEEN THESE TWO POINTS. My ratio on Demonoid is 43,368,448.00. That's right. 40 MILLION.

Also I have a bit of a cold. That's all for this installment of Riel Talk! I'M OUT!

AND I'M BACK!

Welcome to a new day and a new web site.

The Pirate City

There is a new web site called The Pirate City and its a preaty big deal. Apparently its got streaming full lenght movies. Some are cams, some are DVD rips, they are from all over it seems but the biggest thing here is that they are there and you dont have to download a thing to view them.

I am not sure how this works in that most torrent sites work the idea that they are not atcually distributeing the files. Its a fine line to walk but its a line.

Think of it like this.

If I go to a local dead head shop and buy a tobbaco pipe its all legal. If I then take my tobbaco pipe and out weed in it, then it becomes a bong and thats not legeal. The dead head shop didnt break any rules to sell me the pipe. I did when I use it in the wrong manner.

The Pirate Bay, Mininova, Demonoid, Scenes.FZ, ISO Hunt, and so many more are not actually breaking any laws. Its when I use the torrent file to go get the material that I would be breaking the law.

So here is the problem I see with this site. They have to host these files someplace. And that means that they are distributeing the files. So how does that work? If thats the case you can bet that the MPAA will be all over them like white on rice to burn them as fast as they can.

I have been keeping an eye on Torrent Freak and File Share Freak but as of yet I have heard nothing from them as far as actual post on the subject.

I wonder if this is part of The Pirate Bay or if they are just useing the name to get traffic. What ever the answers are i know that I am already signed up for the site and waiting to see how things develope.

These last few days there has been a lot of talk about this blog, and the new blog and I wanted just for one last time talk about how I want this blog to continue here on and out.

For the authors, if you want to write on the new blog, please contact either V1 or Voltaire, and we will setup your account appropriately. I ask that for the new blog, any intellectually stimulating articles or deep tutorials and what not be written for that. Otherwise, current authors please save your article for this blog.

Yes, that is correct. This blog will continue to get posts, but the posting article content will slightly different than what we have done in the past. The V2 blog will strictly be for new tutorials, technical content, and things of that nature. Anything that does not find its way on V2 blog will find its niche here. Things like TiT updates will continue, and here I will lament on status of both blogs as necessary.

Question: Is it true you can take the content found on V2, and just post it here on V1?

Answer: Yes, that is possible, but V2 has more features to it, and I would like the new "tastier" content to be on V2 so we can focus and push ourselves to the next level. Believe it or not, there will be a day when I do not want to blog anymore, so any data on V2 will then at that time be imported into V1 blog, so it can be part of Internet wordpress history and documentation. ;p

Question: Is the V1 Blog going to die?

Answer: No, it won't. The content on this blog still gathers new questions and faces each and every day. There will always be demonoid users, console questions, COD4 questions, and the like and I will continue to check this blog daily to answer questions as needed.

Bottom line is anything that doesn't fit with V2 will find its way onto here. This is nice, because there are some social articles I want to write about, and get off my chest and gather community feedback and this blog is a nice avenue to do so.

Anything else you want to see here on this blog? Leave a comment, thanks!

Alright, I don't have a premeditated plan for this blog...I am just going to wing it and see how it goes. What exactly goes into my thought process when writing a blog? Well I usually think of my current surroundings and try to extrapolate from there...applying methods of comedy and just plain old ass-holery. I think I will begin by talking about something that I am doing right now...downloading music illegally.

Topic 1: Torrents

Those of you who are cool or just part of youth culture know what a torrent file is. Some of you may not know exactly what a seeder or leecher is, or care about what your ratio is. Let me give you a VERY brief explanation of what a torrent is, in case you don't already know. Well, remember Napster? That revolutionary software which reached its ultimate peak/popularity when I was in middle school or early high school? Remember Metallica getting all angry and submitting a list of users it wanted dropped from the service after it was found that they had their songs? Well I was one of them (yeah I know, kinda lame that I had downloaded Metallica)...then I also remember ways to get around that. But anyway...Napster sparked a whole slew of Peer-to-Peer software "file sharing" programs like it that allowed users to download a wide array of pirated software and music. The problem with napster is that it kept a central collection of IP addresses and catalogs of files you were sharing (or something like that). Then came programs like Limewire and...I can't remember any of the other ones because I stopped using them a long while ago....but these programs got rid of some of the legal issues surrounding napster involving central computers. Then, programs such as the pay service of napster, itunes, and rhapsody appeared. These were 100% legal, but you had to pay for shit...

Torrents are the napster of this age...and much harder for the record industry to track. There is no central computer keeping a tally of what you download and from where...and there is no one service provider...they are found throughout the internet. There are numbers of torrent programs out there and a number of torrent websites to search for media. Among the most popular websites are The Pirate Bay, Demonoid, and Isohunt. These sites simply provide a search engine of torrents. A torrent file sets up a network between several different computers to allow data transfer. Those who have the file(s) readily available within this network are known as seeders...those downloading are known as leechers. Networks are set up and data transfer initialized through a tracker program. I use the program Vuze, formerly known as Azureus. The downside of this method of file sharing is that seeds on a particular group of files usually dies out because people don't usually feel the need to continue seeding (sharing) the stuff they just downloaded.

I love torrents...in fact I just downloaded a tribute album to Operation Ivy and a tribute album to Choking Victim. I don't exactly know of the exact processes of a torrent and tracker...but the above was based off of what I could extrapolate from having used it. Another upside of torrents is that you can find music that is hard to find and may not be available on your precious itunes. Well...on to the next topic...this wasn't so much of a heavily opinion induced rant.

Topic 2: Punk Fusion

People who know me, know I love punk rock music...and those who know me better know I love Punk Fusion genres. This includes Ska-Punk, Celtic-Punk, and more. Punk energy, tempo, and lyrics are what I crave. Mixing these elements with other genres of music I enjoy provide me with a musical orgasm. I even play in a punk band that used to be primarily punk/ska. Some of the best artists of the punk genre implement punk fusion such as The Clash, Rancid, Operation Ivy, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, World Inferno/Friendship Society, The Real McKenzies, Neck, Fishbone, Choking Victim/Leftover Crack (and other variations of the same), Intro5pect, Refused, and others I can't recall at the moment.

The Clash has been the best at infusing several different genres with punk...such as dub, ska, reggae, funk, folk, and weird techno-like stuff. Another notable band is Choking Victim/Leftover crack (and other "crack rocksteady" bands) who play a mix of punk, crust-punk, ska-punk, and hardcore. Dropkick Murphys are a testament of the growing popularity of punk in the way of fusion. Celtic music appears to be on the rise and Dropkick Murphys have been accumulating fans at an alarming rate since the movie The Departed came out. Something is very unique about punk fusion...its like a punk attitude with class. Not to rag on straight up punk...I love it...but punk fusion adds something a little more to the same old routine that has been done thousands of times before. Evolution....genres are splitting off but still deeply rooted in the past.

Hey guys, if you didn't figure it out by now, www.theundergroundblog.cjb.net is not the new blog. Instead, it goes to a very comical site, but I don't want to spoil it. Those who went to it and kep their mouth shut about it, thank you. We all need a little fun in our lives.

This Sunday is the real unvealing of the next blog, V2. All we are doing really is starting over from scratch, but this time not on Wordpress.com but on an FTP that was leant to us by a friend. This means we have more control on the interaction between the Staff and the community. We got some nifty plugins, and now we have a plugin where a thread will email everytime there is a new comment.

Or better yet, we have forms so now you can submit a form and make it even easier. Demonoid form anyone? :)

Don't fret. This blog is not going to die. I will visit it daily as usual and give answers to those who ask. V2 will not have daily postings. The frequency will be much much less, but the content will be richer and more satisfying. Even more importantly, if you feel that a post is not "rich" enough in content, you will be able to fill out a form and let us know so we can fix it!!!! Now that is satisfaction.

Today I want to take a quick reflection of my top 3 threads here on V1. It is a tough call, being that a lot of the PS2 tutorials are mine, and I love modding my PS2. Note that this blog has been around since April of 2007, but I didn't go hardcore with it until last fall I want to say. Now the daily postings will come to an end, and more focus will be on V2. Don't be sad though, more content is just around the corner. :-0

Versatile1's Top 3 Posts

Demonoid - Free Invites Underground Trading Circle

I am a proud user of Demonoid. I have been a part of it since May 23, 2005. As you can see, it has been almost 3.5 years as a Demonoid user. I love Demonoid a lot, and it was saddening to know that in some countries Demonoid cannot be viewed! Thank you USA! Anyway, as a proud user of Demonoid, I began to realize that registrations were always closed, and open registrations is very few. What better way to do it than to organize an underground ring myself? Why would I do such a thing?

I just want to give, and let other people get in onto the fun. Hell, if I wanted to get into a private site, I would appreciate an invite, wouldn't you? Now that I got an underground ring going, there will always be invites to offer. Check out the google docs and check the list under confirmed users. We have over 50 people! If each person gave me 5 invites, that is 250 invites! Muahahahha. Organizing it on google docs was the smartest thing I could have done. :0

The Underground PS2 Tutorial Table of Contents

Ok, I'm cheating on this one. This is a table of contents to all PS2 related tutorials on this site. Being that I wrote every single one of them, I'm proud of all of them, so what better way than reference a table of contents?

However, my favorite tutorial is: http://versatile1.wordpress.com/2007/11/08/how-to-ps2-game-from-torrent-to-dvd-using-nero/

It is also the most popular video on my youtube page: www.youtube.com/versatileninja

Using Nero, you can take that PS2 ISO file and burn it to a blank DVD very easily. I want to say that is one of the earlier tutorials I have written, and although DVD decrypter tutorial is there, Nero gets more visibility for some reason. ;p

Number 1

IRC - How to Get Free Porn Passwords

Yea, are you surprised? Right behind COD4 cracked server post, this one comes in second. I guess we all know where a lot of people's priority lies. I first learnt about this back in maybe 9th or 10 grade in high school. My Indian friend who goes by Prashant showed me on IRC this secret room on thundercity known as #ASP. In fact, I think the #ASP group is more than 10 years old. ;0

I hardly use it, but I've told others of this secret knowledge. With the birth of the blog, I decided to share it in tutorial form. Of course, I tried a new method, trying to gather more interaction from the community. I needed 30 commentors, and that is what I got. Hence, the tutorial was formed, but we put it in a forum. The forum got mad hits, and although there were other threads in the forum, the XXX thread got over 1k views easily. Eventually, the forum got discontinued, and now today I present it in PDF form hosted on rapidshare. Do with it as you wish. In V2, I may or may not even top this with a collection of stuff that readers have sent me. Will I share it? We'll see. ;0

********************

Those are my top 3 threads. What are your favorites? Comments appreciated, as I'm interested too!

Secret shoutout to:

In order to try and promote our new site me (Totally Unr3al) and Bkram1 will be giving away some Demonoid invitation codes over the coming weeks. We know how hard these are to find and that most people are just dying to get their hands on them. Once a week over the three next weeks I will make a post just like this and give you a unique code. I hope you guys wrote down the week 1 codeword because its gone for good, read on to find out this weeks codeword.

The first few people to email me the 3 codewords on Sunday the 12 of October (the day the last codeword is out) will get themselves an invite. Week 2 codeword is: Halo

Please note: I will give the email in the last week of the competition as I do not wish to be berated by people demanding an invite for the next 3 weeks.

Hi underground visitors! Welcome to the 44th issue of TIT, or That’s It Tuesday! Every Tuesday, I, Versatile1, will give you a rant of whats going on in the blog, whats intended for the future, hope, dreams, etc.

The days of summer is almost over. The summer Olympics have begun, and it is by far the most expensive Olympics ever. I highly suggest if you got some free time to check it out.

The hottest thing these days here on the blog is the demonoid invite ring. Yes, it is working and I have cleaned it up a ton. User group is working. Please check it out below:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p28ncn6kYKoOlFH1hGm5UXA&output=html

In order to keep sanity, I have decided to not allow the community to edit the spreadsheet. It was an experiment, and although it works, I am not sure if I am seeing spam emails or not. For now, I am the only one who can put names onto the spreadsheet.

The purple colors mean people who are verified users on Demonoid and confirmed their invite. The yellow rows mean those people are slated for deletion because they failed to answer my e-mail.

The spreadsheet is coming along nicely. If you want in, please post a comment on the Demonoid thread. Thanks!

With all the recent nagging from my fan-mail et al., I have finally decided to start my own blog (as I no longer "code 4 food", I can now afford the luxury of spare time during work hours)

Some of you have come to known me in the past two years under the name of Dexter Inside @ MSFN, putting my Microsoft know-how to good community use. Others may be aware of my Art of OEM guide. And there are even a few privileged ones that actually know me in real life. Yes, it happens that I do have a real life, more or less (actually less) but I try hard to imagine that I don't.

For those that don't know me, well, I've been and I am a MCSE, Microsoft OEM IHV Partner, Microsoft Academic Research member, Trend Micro Security Specialist, Open Source contributor, reverse engineering guru, hardware freak and more recently, Test Architect for IBM. Kind of a hobby for me, keeps the juices flowing.

In this blog, I will try to keep your cutting-edge IT interests up and running with snippets from my "marvelous" life of diving into corporate-branded undocumented technologies & more (including bundled crap). Enjoy!

Bittorrent. Not familliar with it ? Keep reading!

It ain't really important to tell you who made Bittorrent, only telling you how this works.
That's right! A step-by-step guide.
Don't expect any rocket science here. This is just going to be the basic and is just a beginning, so I plan to update this as I go along.

First of all I am stating that to copy films / files/ programs/ software without the owners permission is illegal!! Do not do it. Any information that follows is purely educational.
Downloading Torrents is NOT ILLEGAL as long as you are not infringing copyright.

With the advent of broadband technologies such as DSL and cable modems, the everyday user suddenly has a big chunk of bandwidth, not only for download, but also upload. Sharing files directly from your computer (without first sending them to a server) is now a reality. This is where p2p comes in. The acronym p2p stands for peer-to-peer, which basically means client to client. That is, you download files from people like you instead of from big servers, and in turn they download files from you. You share your files, your friends share their files, and everyone talks directly to each other.
The problem with most P2P networks is that many people just don't like to share. They open up their program, download their files, then close the program before they can help anyone else. It's called leeching. BitTorrent is a P2P file swarming application. This means that as soon as you have downloaded a few chunks of a file it will start uploading it to others, thereby spreading the file better. This makes it easier to get the file from many different people at once, thereby increasing the probably that you'll get a good download speed. This means that the more you upload, the faster you'll download.

Things you should know

Leecher: That’s the guys that don’t have the complete file.

Seeder: Those that now have the entire file, 100%, and therefore only function to upload to those that haven’t got the whole thing yet.

Peers: All users connected to the same torrent. The more peers, the greater the speeds, providing there are enough seeders.

Tracker: The centre when you start up the torrent. In short - it connects you to other users and is also the thing that sends you messages to your client.

How to do this ???

1 - Install a Bit Torrent Client

Before you start downloading games, movies etc, you’ll need to install a Bit torrent client. There a numerous clients available all with different features and options. Some people claim certain torrent clients provide faster download speeds, personally i’ve not noticed this between clients.
I would recommend using BitComet as it’s simple to use, looks nice and works well.
Other Bit Torrent clients you might want to try are:
• The Original Bit Torrent Client
• Utorrent
• ABC
• Bit tornado

2 - Download a Torrent

Ok so now you’ve got your torrent client installed, go to your favourite torrent site (e.g. www.isohunt.com). And search for the application you want to download and click on the link to download the Torrent file.

Here are some of the best and popular torrent sites :

Mininova.org is the successor to Supernova, one of the original biggest torrent databases of the Web and the Most visited torrent site on the internet . Almost anything you want can be found here.

Scrapetorrent.com is another torrent beta torrent site that searches many of the popular torrent sites listed here , its fast , clean (spare the pop-up) and definitely my favorite .

Demonoid The most popular private torrent site . You need to be registered and registration is by invitation only Note: User Registration is also open some times on Fridays GMT. (PS: This site is BACK , up and running )

PizzaTorrent Searches torrents in real time. A New site thats really catching popularity.

Torrentscan.com can search many torrent sites with this one. Voted as the best torrent site of the year by About.com

Torrentz.com really good site for torrents. Searches many sites for torrents. Another favorite of mine.

The Pirate Bay a very popular torrent site with a huge database. The good thing about this site is that there are lot of commenter's that help with file installation and also warn against rip off's .

Isohunt.com another popular site with a huge database. Still a very popular site and a favorite to many.

BTjunkie awesome site especially for games , has loads of torrents downloaded from demonoid .

Thebox a torrent site dedicated to british television.

Once you’ve clicked the link your browser will ask you whether you’d like to open the torrent or save it, If your using BitComet I’d suggest choosing “open” and then choosing BitComet as the application to open the torrent with.

Once you click ok BitComet will open up and the following dialog box will appear. You can see all the files in the torrent and also the location where these files will be saved to. The default location should be fine unless you want to save the files to a different drive, this folder can be change by clicking “browse”.

3 - Open Your Files and Share
Ok once the torrent is fully downloaded you may/should seed the torrent so others can download it. You can seed by not stopping the torrent after completion of the download. BitComet will automatically seed a torrent once it’s finished downloading. If you browse to the folder where you chose to save the files you can then use them.

as i said before i have been having a hard time accessing demonoid for a while i searched for the problem and i found that many people is having the same problem (in China-Brazil-India....etc) as they couldn't open the site as it was giving the famous (500 error) and/or blank page(s)

some people also said that they had to refresh the page 10-20 times to make the site visible!!

so as i was surfing some forums a guy said that he changed his DNS server and replaced it with another public one.

i tried the method and voiala... it worked the site is running better than before and i can easily download torrents from it without any problems (before that i had host name not found error )

also arabfilms.org i can now access it easly without any problems( i had a blank page with it before)

what i'm curious about that why those problems are happening here in egypt with linkdotnet ISP ONLY?

Are they trying to throttle p2p and bittorrenting here? or blocking famous bittorrent sites (demonoid ...etc)?

finally hope the method i mentioned above helps you all

peace for now and give me some feedback if this works.

ok here what was posted in Torrentfreak

According to an ever increasing wave of emails to TorrentFreak, it appears that residents of at least two countries can no longer access Demonoid. Not only are users from the Netherlands complaining they cannot access the site but now it’s the turn of Brazilian BitTorrent fans to wonder why they’ve been cut off.

In the meantime, please keep us updated in the comments with access reports from your country and we’ll try to keep people updated on the position for Dutch and Brazilian Demonoid fans. If you can or cannot access Demonoid, we’d like to hear from you.

Whenever a popular torrent site goes down, it’s fairly normal for us to start receiving emails from users concerned about what’s happening, which then dry up fairly quickly after the site in question returns. Just recently we’ve been receiving a steady stream of emails asking why Demonoid is down which seemed strange because the site was operating normally each time we checked.

These sort of problem - when users in one geographical location can access a site when others can’t - is usually down to DNS issues which generally resolve themselves in a short time. However, in the case of Demonoid, this doesn’t appear to offer the answer.

According to reports we’ve received, when users from the Netherlands try to access Demonoid all they get is a blank white page. However, should they try to access the site using a proxy or VPN making the visitor appear they are not from the Netherlands, the user can now gain access. The block happens on all the major ISPs, and are persistent.

Canadians, having been previously blocked, remain unblocked, presumably after Demonoid fell out of range of the CRIA. However, more recently reports indicate that not only are Dutch users blocked from Demonoid, but in an unlikely scenario, Brazilians appear to be blocked too. So what could be at the bottom of this?

There could be some purely technical issues with the web, but as time goes on, this seems less and less likely. It is of course possible that Demonoid itself has some technical problems, having reported that the site had a few bugs to be ironed out around 9 days ago or so. If this is the case, there will be lots of relieved people around.

It’s also possible that there is a legal angle to these blocks, after all this type of action by Demonoid isn’t new in its quest to stay within the law. Around 12 months ago Demonoid blocked Dutch users for a while, as the pressure from BREIN increased quietly behind the scenes, and then later on very publicly blocked millions of Canadians following pressure from the CRIA, only to unblock them again after moving to ’safer’ Ukraine-based hosting.

But, if Ukraine is ’safe’ as a host country, why block the Netherlands, and why block Brazil of all places? As it turns out there is a Demonoid/Brazil link, in that the Demonoid.com domain has a protected WHOIS provided by the Brazilian-based Neurocube.com, which in turn is hosted in the Netherlands at Demonoid’s old host, LeaseWeb. And of course, Netherlands-based anti-piracy group BREIN aren’t the biggest supporters of Demonoid either - and have lots of resources - but whether or not they still hold anything over the site in order to force a block of an entire country is a matter of speculation.

In the absence of any announcement from the new admin of Demonoid (which seems incredibly unlikely), it’s some users of Demonoid who asked us to find out why they can’t access the site. Unfortunately, we don’t have the answer for them right now, maybe they will become more clear in the future.

and it seems that The site is blocked in Egypt too as i can't access it neither any of my friends except when using a proxy so it would be a pitty if the site would be closed all the time

hope it comes back soon

It looks like some people finally get it. Published in THIS article is appears that the left side is working to LEGALIZE file sharing. Much like you see in public libraries. Their stand point is that any law that makes 90% adults criminals is got to be doing something wrong. For the people and by the people. I will be following this one very closely and give you updates as I can find stuff.

This is VERY exciting as no government body has been willing to take on this act.

So I was surfing on Demonoid's web site when I took some time to actually notice the banner on the page. Take a look at it. They are advertising for Border Patrol. Yes that's right one of the largest bit torrent sites in the world is making money from the US government.

This really begs the question about the governments stand point. We will pass bills that make this illegal but we will do our best to make dollar as well. It just amazing to me what lengths things will go. Sneak and peaks are legal as long as they don't get caught? Hell with that logic EVERYTHING is legal as long as you don't get caught!!!

And let it be said that I am not upset with Demonoid or anyone with the site for putting up the banner. They are just like anyone else to Demonoid, and in order to survive you have to turn some kind of money. Its just one of those things that strikes me as odd.

Depois de muitos meses fora do ar, o melhor site de torrents está de volta !

Newspost - Apr/11/2008
Welcome back!
A few months ago, the site administrator (known as Deimos), lacked the time necessary to maintain this website. And for personal reasons, Deimos decided to resign his position as a member of the site staff.
Before leaving, Deimos picked a new site administrator from among his friends. The old moderator team remained unchanged and will continue helping with the site. The Demoniod team will try to keep everything running just as it always has been.
The trackers and website seem to be working properly, and should any issues arise, they will be taken care of as soon as possible. If we work on any problems over the next few days, the site might be going on and offline. We apologize in advance if this should happen.

Welcome back and enjoy! - Umlauf
Demonoid site admin
