Anyways, today I'm going to break down my favorite firefox add-ons, i do not take credit for creating any of these, in fact these developers are AMAZING, and they deserve all the credit. But i truly believe that taking 10 minutes to do this will make your internet browsing experience 1000% better, no joke

For those of you who have ever been to a website and needed to download a bunch of pictures, files or other things. this program will save you that time, it allows you to type in extensions to narrow down files and download them in one click. So if you need to download a bunch of word documents just type in .doc in the extension and it'll do it for you, it has many extensions already categorized, pictures (jpeg gif png) videos (mp4 wmv avi) and music (mp3 wma wav) so go at it!
It also has a GREAT download manager, so if you have crappy wifi or something, this allows you to pause, (TRULY pause) a download and start it up again, it also has a download accelerator that keeps your downloads going at the fastest pace possible. And for sites that only allow one download at a time, you can change the behavior of download helper to only download one file at a time, thus not timing out the download. works great for sites like megaupload, really helps in not waiting 45 seconds for every new download

1. StumbleUpon - Let's keep it real, it is still as addictive as before and make you reach the enf of the internet -­ twice - through sleepless nights. A good add-on that will allow you to literally browse the web - your way
2. PicLens - Now that has got to be the coolest add-on ever made. You know whenever you're on Google Images, and you have to go through 7 different pages that take hours to load before you can actually find the one that you're interested in? How about when you're watching your friends' pictures on Facebook, MySpace or Flicker? Well fear no more: PicLens is an add-on that transforms your browser into a full-screen, 3D experience for online photos and videos. That's right, VIDEOS too! This add-on searches through Amazon, Google, YouTube, Flicker, deviantArt, Photobucket, Facebook, Myspace and more! Highly Recommended.
3. Fast Dial - Another awesome and very useful add-on. I barely use my bookmarks anymore: Fast Dial replaces the 'about:blank' page whenever you open a new tab with a panel of thumbnails of your favorite sites. A real time-saver inspired by Opera's Speed Dial. Again: Highly Recommended.
4. TwitterFox - For all the Twitters out there, stop downloading Twitterific or whatever it's called for PCs. Get TwitterFox. You can follow your friends or write down a Twitt directly from Firefox. It's just extremely convenient, and you don't even have to launch another application.
5. ScribeFire - This is mainly for the bloggers. I'm actually typing this blog through ScribeFire; it's a full-featured blog editor that integrates with Firefox and lets you easily post your blog. I can browse the web while I'm doing blogging to make sure all my web references and links are correct. Sweet add-on.
6. Previews - The makers of PicLens did it again. "Best extension ever? Quite possibly." - LifeHacker. "Cooliris makes you a more efficient web surfer." - CNet. I somewhat agree: it is very useful when you're on Craigslist, MySpace or Facebook when you want to see a listing but don't want to go from one page back to the index page and onto the next page and so on... it pops a new window within your already-opened tab so you can see different pages within one. I had to set it up to my convenience, but it's definitely worth it if you don't want to waste your time going back and forth one page.
7. Google Notebook - The page you're on is somewhat interesting but not enough to read it right now, and definitely not interesting to bookmark? Put it in your notebook. Useful little add-on.And now for the web developers; I use those practically everyday at work:
8. FireFTP - Just as useful as it before, you don't need another application for a cross-platform FTP, it works better then before (looks like they did some tweaking) and it provides easy and intuituve access to different FTP servers.
9. FireBug - This little add-on allows you to edit, debug and monitor CSS, HTML and JavaScript live in any web page. Very helpful and useful when you need to tweak your CSS.
10. Web Developer - This add-on and FireBug make a great team. Web Developer adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.

I haven't used all the add-ons that I used to have, for I've noticed that the more add-ons you use, the more memory they use, and they drastically slow down firefox and sometimes make it crash (ok, I had a PC, but that's another story). So now I'm only using the ones that are necessary, useful, will make me save time and really improve my browsing experience.

Un po' per pigrizia, abitudine (e purtroppo l'uso obbligato spesso delle Active X) ho sempre prediletto IE pur conoscendone difetti, bug e vulnerabilità rispetto Firefox.

Ora con la versione 3 di Firefox installata ho testato i due browser (in maniera empirica ma il risultato è talmente differente che per me è sufficiente) soprattutto per quanto riguarda la velocità nell'apertura delle pagine.

Il risultato è tremendamente a favore di Firefox 3 il quale (mediamente) ci mette un terzo del tempo di IE (7).
L'ho provato sullo stesso pc con due finestre identiche (a cache vuota) e lanciando l'url un attimo prima su IE.
Sempre, e dico sempre, i siti si aprono in Firefox con molti secondi di gap in meno rispetto Internet Explorer.

A parte la velocità maggiore (che soprattutto su sistemi appesantiti col tempo è primaria) ho poi iniziato ad aggiungere componenti di vario tipo davvero interessanti, divertenti ed utili.
Un lavoro enorme e davvero encomiabile da parte degli sviluppatori per rendere Firefox ancora migliore.

Già la barra indirizzi è qualcosa di davvero unico nel modo di aiutare l'utente.

Per quanto riguarda l'upgrading el browser c'è scelta per tutti.
Ad esempio (oltre i vari plugin per flash, pdf, ecc...) ed i tools per il web developing) sono entusiasta di un' estensione chiamata PicLens per effettuare il browsing di immagini in ambiente semi-3D su motori quali Google, Flickr, Amazon, Youtube, Yahoo... Incredibile! (Sembra un Mac per quanto bello) :)
Oltre a questo ho pure aggiunto FireFtp, ftp che s'integra col browser e che permette il resume di upload/download (utile quando la linea balbetta). BetterGmail per la gestione migliorata di Gmail,  Dnd (mostra ip e flag dello stato del sito visualizzato ed altre info) e per ora ho solo iniziato a cercare tra le migliaia di plugin, estensioni, temi e quant'altro disponibili. Eccezionale!!!

In sostanza: provate Firefox 3 e non lo abbandonerete più! :) Io l'ho reso il mio browser di default!

But, I also like FireFTP.  It's an add-on for Firefox.  Go to http://fireftp.mozdev.org/ and download it (it will make you restart Firefox).  Then, when it reopens, look for FireFTP under Tools.  You login by Creating an Account or using QuickConnect.

And, for FTP on the go, there's http://www.net2ftp.com/.  It's a web-based FTP program.

Many hosts also offer the ability to FTP to your site via the Web, but I don't think the doteasy accounts do that. So, the options above should help you through any FTP situation.

1) Just go to ftp://72.36.186.2/ with Internet Explorer and log in to grab the files. Open My Computer to a directory of your choice and drag the files you want from the FTP into that folder.

Alternatively, FireFox has the FireFTP extension available at http://fireftp.mozdev.org/. Click ‘Manage Accounts’ > Add New and use the host 72.36.186.2 with your username and password. Then connect to it. You can use the left frame to navigate to a directory of your choice on your computer and the left arrow to move files there.

2) If you have databases, go to http://72.36.186.2:2082/ and navigate into the PHPmyAdmin. Open the database and click the ‘Export’ link. Copy the contents into a text file - ‘data.txt’ for example.

3) Access your new FTP by accessing ftp://ismyhost.com* or using ismyhost.com* as your host. (See instructions from step 1.) Upload the files saved in step 1 into the right directory.

4) Access your new cPanel at http://ismyhost.com:2082/* and use the ‘MySQL Databases’ tool to set up your databases again. Then use the ‘Import’ feature in PHPMyAdmin to upload your old database from the file you saved in step 2.

* Your exact address will depend  on the node of your account. Your details can be found in the hosting section of your account at http://web.ismywebsite.com/. If you cannot access your new node (other than IsMyHost), please wait until we can check all the accounts and declare yours working.

Things to watch out

In order to have access to the ftp server, FireFTP needs the user and password created in gproftpd. Don't forget to port forwarding the port 21 in the server. To do that the local ip address is needed, which can be obtained from the terminal window using the command ifconfig.

Test both Client and Server

In your client, go to FireFTP/Manage Accounts/Edit.

As the author of one of the manuals above said, gproftpd is an application that is considered not secure. The author recommends to install proftpd instead. The installation is easier than Gproftpd since you can copy and paste the proftpd.conf file into your computer.

Things to watch out

Here are two things to watch out: first if you have an 530 error, update the password, and second if port forwarding doesn't work with 1980 check with 21.

Firefox è un browser eccezionale che permette di integrare al suo interno una serie di plug-in per migliorarne l'affidabilità. Vi assicuro che se date uno sguardo al sito degli add-on di Mozilla rimarrete stupiti voi stessi dall'ampia gamma di estensioni disponibili. Naturalmente sono divisi per categorie, spetta a voi scegliere l'estensione più adatta! Attenzione a non pomparvi di troppi plug-in, assicuratevi di avere una macchina abbastanza veloce; se volete optare per gli "indispensabili" (quelli di cui io non riesco a fare a meno) troverete abbastanza interessante questo post con le dieci estensioni più interessanti.

Ad Blockplus

E' una vera pietra miliare per la nostra volpe di fuoco; un cacciatore di banner e di pubblicità fraudolente, un'estensione notevole se vogliamo visitare i siti web senza che le fastidiose pubblicità che ci ostacolano. Ha fatto molto discutere di sé questa estensione e Google, società che spalleggia da sempre Firefox per combattere Microsoft col suo Internet Explorer, ha accusato pesantemente il colpo per il blocco degli ad-sense e delle sue pubblicità provocata da questa estensione. Ciò dovrebbe rimarcare il fatto che è assolutamente eccezionale nel suo compito, vi consiglio vivamente di scaricarla!

No Script

Parliamo ancora di un estensione che ci consente la massima sicurezza per la nostra navigazione. Anche questa, come la precedente, si cataloga nella lista degli "indispensabili". No script è una potente estensione che blocca il contenuto pericoloso di ogni sito web (bloccato pubblicità, banner, script java che ci reindirizzano a siti a pagamento). La nostra privacy non verra' più violata poichè no script bloccherà ogni attività illecita eseguita senza il nostro permesso. Essenziale!

DownThemAll!

A cosa serve un acceleratore di download se firefox è gia' una scheggia di suo? vi assicuro che avere velocità in più per i propri download fa assolutamente bene. Questa estensione velocizza i download dei nostri file e li ottimizza allo stesso tempo, è un vero gestore di download direttamente da firefox senza installare alcun programma esterno! Flessibile e snello, non appesantisce per nulla la navigazione e spreme la vostra banda per benino a favore dello scaricamento dei file in pochissimo tempo. Da non perdere, veramente una chicca di cui una volta provata non ne farete più a meno.

Quante volte vi sarà capitato di imbattervi in un sito che contiene dei documenti in pdf? Il pdf è un formato proprietario di Adobe, molto diffuso ed utilizzato. Se apriamo un documento PDF da firefox la velocità della nostra macchina rallenterà in modo spropositato perchè il nostro caro browser deve sacrificare parte delle prestazioni per aprire il documento. Con questa estensione potete velocizzare il tutto, in maniera semplice ed efficate. Vi apparirà una finestra dove sarete voi ad indicare al nostro browser quale azione compiere con un incremento delle prestazioni incredibile. Da provare, utile!

Video DownloadHelper

YouTube e affini, siti abituali dove passiamo gran parte delle giornate. Quei video che ci piacciono tanto hanno la terribile restrizione di essere soltanto "visibili" e non prelevati sul proprio pc. Niente paura, con questa estensione potete scaricare tutti i video che volete, non soltanto da Youtube. In poche semplici mosse avrete il vostro video sul computer, tutto questo senza scaricare un programma alternativo ma direttamente da firefox. Veramente valido!

Tab Mix Plus

Le tab, le nostre adorate tab. Microsoft è corsa subito ai ripari copiandole spudoratamente da Firefox. Cosa sono le tab? sono i nostri "segnalibro", le nuove finestre per aprire nuove pagine web senza dover all'occorrenza aprire nuovamente il browser (questo ne consente un notevole incremento di prestazioni.) Tab Mix Plus è un altro plug-in interessante che ci consente di organizzare al meglio i Tab di Firefox.

Me.dium

Comunicare con chi ha visitato il tuo stesso sito in maniera semplice ed efficace, ecco cos'è Me.dium, un nuovo universo di comunicazione per cercare nuove amicizie direttamente da Firefox. Un "Social Network" estremo con una mappatura di tutti siti visitati e condividere le tue opioni con altri. Ve lo consiglio vivamente!

GreaseMonkey

Il web come lo vuoi tu, basta solo personalizzarlo. Greasemonkey è un fantastico plug-in che ci permette di modificare e personalizzare qualunque pagina web si stia visitando eliminando le voci e gli elementi che non ci interessano. E' un estensione che non deve mancare al vostro browser.

IeTab

Da Taiwan con furore. IeTab si prefigge un altro strumento indispensabile da integrare in firefox. Siti che richiedono internet explorer e vietano l'accesso alla nostra adorata volte? con IeTab, direttamente da Firefox, apriremo un "segnalibro" che ci permetterà di far girare Internet Explorer e così ovvieremo qualunque problema senza switchare browser.

1.- IE Tab

Si tu navegador es Firefox, pero a veces sufres que algunas páginas no funcionen correctamente si no tienen el motor de IExplorer, esta es tu solución para no tener que cambiar de navegador, con un simple click, puedes usar desde Firefox, cualquiera de los dos motores, obviamente siempre el motor por defecto sera el mozilla. Con una salvedad, esto solo funciona en Windows, si estás en linux, no podrás instalarte este Add-on.

2.- DownThemAll!

Gestor y acelerador de descargas construido dentro de Firefox. Si buscas acelerar tus descargas con Firefox, es justamente lo que andabas buscando, este addon incluye un acelerador que aumenta la velocidad de descarga hasta un 400%, y permite detener y reanudar las descargas en cualquier momento. DownThemAll es rápido, fiable y fácil de usar. Permite descargar todos los enlaces o imágenes de una página web, y muchas otras cosas: puede optimizar sus descargas mediante criterios completamente personalizables para obtener sólo lo que realmente quiere descargar.

3.-Gmail Manager

Permite llevar un control de múltiples cuentas de Gmail y además te avisa cuantos correos tienes pendientes de ver, o si te llegan nuevos correos, mientras estás navegando con tu navegador Firefox.

Informa sobre la ubicación de tus distintos mensajes, la cabecera e incluso un pequeño extracto de tus correos no leidos, además obtendrás información del espacio que queda libre en tu cuenta. Yo ya no me hago a no tenerlo ;)

4.- FireFTP

Un pequeño cliente FTP en tu navegador, sin la necesidad de tener que tener programas extras instalados. Todo lo que convencionalmente se usa en cualquier cliente FTP lo tendrás con FireFTP además podrás utlizarlo en cualquier sistema operativo, que permita la instalación de Firefox. Con este gestor podrás comparar directorios, enviar o recibir archivos vía FTP mientras estás navegando, dispone de encriptación SSL, busquéda/filtrado, comprobación de integridad, permite la edición remota, copiar y pegar, y bastantes cosas más.

5.- Fission

Esta extensión tiñe de gris tu barra de direcciones, en la medida en que la página por la que estes navegando haya cargado, es decir, es una barra de progreso, mucho mas visible, puesto que se encuentra incrustada en la barra de direcciones. Ahora sabrás cuando la página por la que estes navegando haya terminado de cargar o esté a medio cargar, a mi personalmente me resulta bastante util.

Today, I spent most of the day going through the Firefox Add-ons and found (and installed) a few good ones, so I thought I'd share them with you. For those who don't know, an add-on is kinda like a mini-program that's installed to Firefox in order to make your own way of browsing the web even better. Some of the following are directed to web developers but most of them are for anybody. Here's how my browser looks like now with all the add-ons (click to enlarge):

21 Firefox Add-ons to enhance your browsing experience
The following are organized from left to right, top to bottom on my browser. Each link will lead you to its download page in a new window (or tab). I'm not sure if all of them work with Firefox 3, you're gonna have to test that yourself.

1. Well Rounded
   Adds a nice 'finishing touch' to Firefox by providing aesthetically pleasing, rounded edges to the location bar, search bar, find bar, and all manor of other toolbars on your browser...
2. PHP Lookup (for web developers)
   Quick PHP function lookup.
3. GoogCal
   Creates a (movable) toolbar button that opens Google Calendar in the current tab.
4. StumbleUpon Toolbar
   Channel surf the internet with the StumbleUpon toolbar to find great websites, videos, photos and more based on your interests. StumbleUpon learns what you like and makes better recommendations.
   BEWARE: This will make you procrastinate, but if you've got time to waste, then it's pretty cool.
5. Digg This!
   The Digg This! extension speeds up the process of submitting stories to the news website digg.com
6. SQLite Manager (for web developers)
   Manage any SQLite database on your computer. I don't know if it works with MySQL though.
7. FireFTP (for web developers)
   FireFTP is a free, secure, cross-platform FTP client for Mozilla Firefox which provides easy and intuitive access to FTP servers.
8. FireBug (essential for web developers)
   Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page...
9. Web Developer
   Adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.
10. Google Browser Sync
    Google Browser Sync for Firefox is an extension that continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers. It also allows you to restore open tabs and windows across different machines and browser sessions.
11. Faviconize Tabs
    This extension adds a new "FaviconizeTab" option to the context menu of the tab.
    Look at my first 5 tabs and you'll understand.
12. Tab Scope
    Preview and navigate tab contents through popup.

Now down at the status bar...

1. Google Notebook
   Add text clippings, images and links to your Google Notebook and share them with friends.
2. ScribeFire (for bloggers)
   ScribeFire is a full-featured blog editor that integrates with your browser and lets you easily post to your blog.
   Unfortunately, there's an error message that pops up whenever I want to post a blog in WordPress, but I'm still keeping it and waiting for them to fix this.
3. Web Personal Cleaner
   Allows to hide parts of website pages (like publicity). So, you can personalize your favorite websites...
   This is a MUST GET. I removed the ads on myspace and facebook, and any other ads I see will be "cleaned".
4. GMail Checker
   Light-weight Firefox extension to check for new messages in your Google Mail's Inbox and Labels.
5. Brief
   Brief makes reading RSS feeds as easy as it gets. It is designed to have the right set of features to be both powerful and simple. Brief stores feeds on your disk and presents them on a seamless, interactive page.
   Best one I've seen so far.
6. WeatherBug
   Get live, local weather conditions in Firefox with the WeatherBug extension. Featuring forecasts, radar, and severe weather alerts from WeatherBug's community of neighborhood weather...

And, for the add-ons that are not noticeable on my screenshot...

1. Dictionaries
   These dictionaries work with the spell-checking feature in Firefox, in a lot of different languages.
2. Download Statusbar
   View and manage downloads from a tidy statusbar - without the download window getting in the way of your web browsing.
3. Organize Status Bar
   This extension will enable you to organize your status bar icons. You can now rearrange or remove any item (icon or text) in the Firefox status bar. If your status bar is full and cluttered like mine was, give this a try.

There's just one negative thing that I have to say about those though... With 20 add-ons installed to Firefox, sometimes it will freeze for a second or two... but then again, my computer's a piece of crap and always had memory problems. Hope those are helpful to you in some way!

MeasureIt - uma régua para medir as imagens, ou qualquer coisa na página, excelente para definir os tamanhos e margens.

ColorZilla - quer saber o número da cor daquela imagem? Use esse colorpicker.

CSS Validator - verifique se seu CSS está validado pela W3C.

Dummy Lipsum - gerador do famoso Lorem Lipsum.

LoremIpsum Content Generator - gerador do Lorem Lipsum também, só que sem a opção de mostrar tag (<p>) igual ao Dummy Lipsum.

Stylish - fácil gerenciador de estilos (CSS).

CSS Viewer - com essa extensão você pode visualizar o estilo aplicado só aonde desejar (muito bom).
