Fred Astaire becomes both the benefactor and suitor of Leslie Caron in this charming story of a playboy who falls under the spell of a beautiful French orphan. While traveling through France Jervis Pendleton lll (Astaire) anonymously sponsors an 18-year-old girl named Julie (Caron) whom he sends to college in America. Two years later they finally meet face to face and start to fall in love. But complications arise and their happiness is threatened when Jervis embarks on a noble yet misguided attempt to do "the right thing" about their age difference. Featuring imaginative production numbers and a Johnny Mercer score that includes the 1955 Oscar -nominated hit for Best Song "Something's Gotta Give" Daddy Long Legs is a song-filled blend of dance and fantasy for romantics of all ages.

Lectura:

-George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-four

. Literatura Inglesa en inglés

There are a lot of glorious things that come to mind when we think of heaven: pearly gates, streets

There are a lot of glorious things that come to mind when we think of heaven: pearly gates, streets of gold, mansions. And while we can only imagine what it will be like, we know that better is one day in His house than ten thousand elsewhere. And when the saints go marching in, we want to be in that number!

There are things we wonder, though. I mean, at least I do. Will my puppy, Mindy, be there? Will I be able to breathe underwater? Am I really going to be expected to play a harp? In all seriousness, is everyone really gonna know everything about everyone else; good and bad?

More than anything else, however, I would like to know if there will be dancing in heaven. I mean, I expect that there will be some dancing as part of praise. But I'm talking about beautiful dresses, long white gloves, tuxedos, and people suddenly being so overcome that they begin singing and dancing. And everyone knows all the steps. Do you think we'll do that in heaven?

There are many things to make me think I was born in the wrong decade. One of which is my desire to go to parties where people dance. I mean REALLY dance. Not get drunk, grind against a stranger, and then hook up. I mean, old-fashioned Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire dancing. It's so beautiful and so romantic and SO innocent! Oh, it looks like so much fun. Do you think God will throw parties to watch us ballroom dance in heaven? I dearly hope so.

Ironically, that golden age of musicals preceded the introduction of LPs, so it's been left until now for the release of this comprehensive two-CD anthology, which extracts classic vocal performances of classics from Irving Berlin and the Gershwins, among others, slighter but no less charming novelty songs, and brief dialogue excerpts. For fans, it's the mother lode, but even more casual listeners will be reminded of Astaire's deceptively plain yet indelible voice, and Rogers' own warm, engaging style. --Sam Sutherland

Joseph Epsteins Fred Astaire investigates the great dancers magical talent, taking up the story

Joseph Epsteins Fred Astaire investigates the great dancers magical talent, taking up the story of his life, his personality, his work habits, his modest pretensions, and above all his accomplishments. Written with the wit and grace the subject deserves, Fred Astaire provides a remarkable portrait of this extraordinary artist and how he came to embody for Americans a fantasy of easy elegance and, paradoxically, of democratic aristocracy.

Tracing Astaires life from his birth in Omaha to his death in his late eighties in Hollywood, the book discusses his early days with his talented and outspoken sister Adele, his gifts as a singer (Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern all delighted in composing for Astaire), and his many movie dance partners, among them Cyd Charisse, Rita Hayworth, Eleanor Powell, and Betty Hutton. A key chapter of the book is devoted to Astaires somewhat unwilling partnership with Ginger Rogers, the woman with whom he danced most dazzlingly. What emerges from these pages is a fascinating view of an American era, seen through the accomplishments of Fred Astaire, an unassuming but uncompromising performer who transformed entertainment into art and gave America a new yet enduring standard for style.

Aproveitando o gancho, baixei hoje cedo no excelente site do JazzMan, o disco "Ella and Louis". Nem me pergunte porquê ?!

Conclusion
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a blog about trying to get a copy of my pink slip from when

Conclusion

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a blog about trying to get a copy of my pink slip from when I was fired at my job at a record label. The reason for trying to get a copy was because of what was written under "Reason for Termination": No radio experience. (For those of you who didn't bother to read the other blog, I had just finished a 3-year stint in radio before coming on board.)

My pal Brad put me in touch with Sara at Gotee Records to see about getting a copy of my paperwork and she was really cool about it. Alas, I heard back from her today and although they did indeed find my file, my pink slip is nowhere to be found inside.

I have to admit, I'm a little depressed about it. Why? I'll explain by giving you some true stories:

Walt Disney was once fired by a newspaper editor because "he lacked imagination and had no good ideas."

After Harrison Ford's first performance in movies, the studio vice-president called him into his office and said, "You ain't got it kid , you ain't got it ... now get out of here."

Charles Schultz had every one of the comics he submitted to his high school newspaper rejected .

A memo written in 1933 by an MGM testing director after Fred Astaire's first screen test said, "Can't act. Can't sing. Slightly bald. Can dance a little." Astaire actually had the memo framed and placed over his fireplace.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I'm better than or even nearly as good as any of the people I mentioned above but man, I really wanted my own little piece of irony to hang on the wall.

I've always loved classic music (swing/jazz sorta stuff) and tonight i decided to look some clips up on YouTube.

I watched some Frank Sinatra and Fred Astaire - more Fred Astaire tho. I love Frank Sinatra's singing but I love Fred Astaires singing and dancing.

It was a time when tap dancing and ball room danging was cool!

Cheek to Cheek from the movie "Top Hat" became a favourite song of mine when i saw it on the movie "The Green Mile". The dancing and singing is brilliant. That was when I discovered this era where there were some actors that could sing and dance. It's fascinating watching some of the clips from the movies and seeing how cheesy they were but it was the 40's..they were allowed to be!

For those of you who would like to see what I've been watching go to this link: frgt10kyur

For those who are lazy, here is one clip...

Rita Hayworth & Fred Astaire: So Near and Yet So Far (1941)

Oh, and this clip I found when searching "Dean Martin"...it's just really funny!! A must watch =)

Goldie Hawn on the Dean Martin Show (1969)

Turn on TCM right now! For the entire month of August, Turner Classic Movies (U.S.) hosts its annual Summer Under the Stars festival. Summer Under the Stars is a month long event that celebrates the most legendary names in film by dedicating 24-hours each to their films, meaning at least 12 of their films each day in August. Days are dedicated to stars such as Claude Rains, Greta Garbo, Richard Widmark, Peter Lorre, Kim Novak, Fred Astaire, Edward G. Robinson, Barbara Stanwyk, Spencer Tracey and even Marie Dressler. And that’s just for starters. Perhaps the most imaginative, ambitious and exciting classic film programming possible, this is a massive slice of Hollywood history in a single month, containing very rare films. The volume of it makes it a classic film lover's dream but also pretty much impossible to record all of them! Charlie Chaplin is on today! A great selection of shorts followed by every single feature film he made. You could be a Chaplin expert in a mere 24 hours. Stop reading this now. Go, go, go!

°o.

cd 1: goldfrapp-seventh tree

°o.

fred astaire e ginger rogers.
approfondisco. shall we dance, 1937, titolo italiano voglio danzare con te.

e gli sguardi?? gli sguardi, le occhiate tra ginger e fred sono intensi. per usare un termine inglese hhhhhot. lo so, che quei due non hanno avuto una storia insieme e che entrambi erano sposati con persone diverse, ma a guardare i loro film c’è un’intesa che poche coppie hanno;
ormai è quasi una caccia all’”intesa”.
e in shall we dance è palese.
