Sa o spun din start: nu va uitati la filmul asta. Nu! Pentru ca, dorind sa pastreze prea lungul sir al remake-urilor americanizate dupa filme horror straine, Quarantine cam rateaza (din ce se cede din trailere) intensitatea originalului. Asa ca va rog, daca vreti sa vedeti un horror la persoana intai (filmat au naturel, a la Bliar Witch Project sau Cloverfield), un film scurt, dar de impact, care chiar m-a speriat, dar m-a si tinut cu ochii in ecran, va rog, va rog, va ROG sa vedeti originalul: filmul spaniol [REC]. Fiind greu de gasit pe piata (chiar si la americani), cred ca o sa ne fie scuzat acest link cazu linku'! lasa, ca va descurcati voi.

Body of Lies

Scott. Di Caprio. Crowe. Acest 1-2-3 de efect ar trebui sa fie suficient ca sa va starneasca un minim de interes pentru film. Povestea are leagtura cu terorismul, conspiratii, agenti secreti... Dar cui ii pasa? E Ridley Scott, ce naiba? Fie ca regizeaza extraterestri, politisti din viitor sau gladiatori, tipul se pricepe sa spuna o poveste. Ce-i drept, ultima sa colaborare cu Russell Crowe a fost A Good Year...

RocknRolla

regia si scenariul Guy Ritchie; cu Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton, Jeremy Piven, Idris Elba (salve, Elbule!)

Mai are sens sa spun ca e un film cu hoti? Hoti buni, hoti rai, cine poate spune? Se spune ca filmul asta marcheaza o revenire in forma pentru Ritchie dupa o perioada mai putin glorioasa, asa ca sa speram ca rezultatul nu va dezamagi. Nu de alta, dar ar face bine sa fie la inaltime pentru urmatorul sau film - Sherlock Holmes cu Robert Downey Jr. si Jude Law.

City of Ember

regia Gil Kenan, scenariul Caroline Thompson, dupa un roman de Jeanne Duprau; cu Bill Murray, Tim Robbins

Film pentru copii? Nu tocmai. Chiar daca are la baza o carte cu un public tinta mai tanar, filmul este macar din punct de vedere tematic si vizual interesant si pentru adulti. Abordand mai mult sau mai putin fatis idei despre dependenta de tehnologie, abuzul de resurse si distributia energiei si bazandu-se pe estetica steampunk, City of Ember e chiar remarcabil in peisajul filmelor "pentru toata familia". Plus: Bill Murray si Tim Robbins. 'Nuff said.

regia Olver Stone, scenariul Stanley Weiser; cu Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Banks, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn, Richard Dreyfuss

Poate parea usor desuet sa il iei peste picior pe Bush. Dupa 8 ani de zile, ne-am cam plictisit de bancurile cu el (desi el insusi pare ca nu a inteles mesajul si ne livreaza in permanenta faze penibile). Pe de alta parte, lumea s-a cam saturat si de Olver Stone. Nu numai de incercarile lui uneori remarcabile (JFK), alteori siropoase (World Trade Center) de a aborda probleme politice spinoase. Dar exista posibilitatea ca filmul asta sa mearga chiar pe granita foarte subtire dintre ridicol si natural. Poate ca, axandu-se pe tineretea nebuna (cam la propriu...) a lui George Jr., Stone va reusi sa evite cliseele... sau poate va cadea si mai mult in penibil.

Max Payne

regia John Moore, scenariul Beau Thorne, dupa jocul Max Payne; cu Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Beau Bridges

Oh, dear... Iar un film facut dupa un joc video.  Stim ce inseamna asta: penibil, jenant, dureros... Aspectul pozitiv numarul unu: nu e regizat de Uwe Boll! Ori, asta inseamna ca automat calitatea creste exponential. Aspectul pozitiv numarul doi: filmul pare a fi foarte credincios jocului. Ori, cine a jucat Max Payne poate confirma ca povestea de acolo si mai ales prezentare acelei povesti aveau un iz cinematografic clar. Deci, cineastul nu are decat sa mearga pe directia data de joc si lucrurile deja stau mai bine. Macar daca ar depasi Wahlberg nivelul lamentabil de interpretare din The Happening.

What Just Happened?

regia Barry Levinson, scenariul Art Linson, dupa un roman de Art Linson; cu Robert de Niro, Bruce Willis, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro

Barry Levinson. Sa fim cinstiti: tipul nu prea le are cu regia. Dar unul din putinele lui filme care chiar merg a fost Wag the Dog, o satira politica acida cu de Niro intr-unul din rolurile principale. Acum satira s-a mutat la Hollywood, iar de Niro e tot protagonist, asa ca sunt dispus sa ii acord lui Levinson o sansa... sa speram ca WJH? se va ridica la nivelul lui Wag the Dog.

Changeling

regia Clint Eastwood, scenariul J. Michael Straczynski; cu Angelina Joile, John Malkovich

Mereu iubit de critici (ca regizor cel putin), Clint Eastwood se intoarce cu un film primit calduros (cum altfel?) la Cannes anul acesta. O premisa interesanta (o mama se roaga ca fiul sau rapit sa se intoarca acasa, dar cand aceasta se intampla, ajunge sa suspecteze ca are de-a face cu un impostor), un context istoric prea putin valorificat in zilele noastre (anii '20), adunate intr-un scenariu scris de creatorul Babylon 5 si cu un regizor de marca... nu vad ce ar putea da gres.

Uat za fac iz deat taital, diud? E pe suedeza, bre! Cica pe engleza i se zice "Let the Right One In" si e o poveste de dragoste intre un om si un vampir. De ce am amintit de asta? De o poveste atat de cliseu? Pentru ca peste vreo luna o sa vina peste noi un mastodont de film hollywoodian exact pe aceeasi tema, adresat mai ales fetelor prebuscente (de preferinta cu valente emo - no offense, sunt mai tolerant decat altii), care de pe acum mi se pare absolut penibil. Am impresia ca Hollywoodul cam pupa in... ahem... filmul asta, dat fiind ca e bazat pe o carte care, ca un fel de Titanic (filmul, nu vaporul!) literar, a castigat o groaza de bani, numai ca fara macar sa fie o realizare artistica deosebita (spre deosebire de Titanic - tot filmul!). Asa ca pentru cei care asteapta Twilight: mai bine va uitati la asta (cica. eu nu am niciun interes sa-l vad.).

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

regia si scenariul Kevin Smith; cu Seth Rogen si Elizabeth Banks

Kevin Smith+Seth Rogen=premisele unei comedii adevarate. Plus: povestea e despre doi colegi de camera care se cunosc de ani de zile si mentin o prietenie stransa; dar, datoriile ii fac sa se gandeasca la o sursa alternativa de venit: filmele porno. Mai vreti ceva? Ganditi-va doar ca daca e vorba de Kevin Smith, atunci puteti fi siguri ca nu se va irosi nicio ocazie de a face bancuri porcoase (dar destepte). Ori, intr-un film cu o asemenea premisa, ocaziile vor fi nenumarate. They just have to rise to the occasion (that's what she said).

Are you looking to step into a bit of the ole' underground? Yearning for a taste of the underbelly of London? Maybe you're just missing the sounds of those thick British accents as the words stumble into your ears and confuse more than inform you. Whatever the case may be, there is only one man who truly provides the cure for those ills...Guy Ritchie.

The man behind Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch is back once again with another chapter is his series of old school mob movies. RocknRolla follows along a certain tradition for Ritchie, fast talking and fast reacting characters keep the audience tense, because they have absolutely no clue what will happen next. Keep the characters unpredictable and keep the audience involved, that's the key. Now, if you noticed the title of this review, you might be wondering where the connection to Quentin Tarantino comes in (and that is a most perceptive and valid question. Well done, reader). After the movie ended I turned to my friend and said, "One sentence review: The British Pulp Fiction." He sat back, processed the comparison and smiled. "Yep, you're totally right." I'll show you what I mean while giving a brief overview of the story.

RocknRolla follows a small gang of low level criminals known as The Wild Bunch, who get hired by a sexy accountant to rip off some big money from an even bigger mobster. What she didn't know is our little hooligans were already in debt to the local crime lord, who was doing business with the "bigger mobster". So money is stolen, circulated, recycled and everyone ends up chasing each others tails. Also, there is a painting that gets stolen and becomes the MacGuffin of the film, which is a cinematic term for an object that is central to the plot, but no one ever really sees it. People philosophize, people die and people are nearly sodomized.

If the specifics of the comparison aren't gelling for you yet, here's a breakdown:

- MacGuffins: Pulp Fiction has the briefcase which we never see inside. RocknRolla has the painting which we never see the front of.

- Crooks in way over their head: Gerard Butler and Idris Elba play the heads of The Wild Bunch and are constantly trying to keep one step ahead of being killed by the very person they are working for, just like John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson (more Travolta though, in this case).

- The Girl is the Problem: Thandie Newton is the instigator of the troubles which put Gerard into play, just like Uma Thurman goes after Travolta, thereby putting him in a situation of life or death.

- Multiple storylines: RocknRolla is not set up in the vignette fashion of Pulp Fiction, but both deal with a number of plot lines that all converge in the end to tie things up.

- Sodomy Interruption: Both films have a scene where a guy is about to be raped by a pair of leather clothed dudes, when someone comes in and makes the snap judgment on who to kill.

It can be argued that some of these things are common to all movies of the crime/mob genre, but so many together in one film makes the case a little stronger. I'm not saying RocknRolla is bad, not in the least, but I left feeling like I'd seen it before.

RocknRolla is not going to be remembered in history for iconic performances, like Travolta and Jackson, but there was some good work being done. Butler hams it up nicely as a crook-cum-swashbuckler with no dancing feet. His inherent suaveness comes to bear in his scenes with Thandie, but he also gets to show his willingness to play that in the direction of a different gender. Which brings up one big difference between this and Pulp Fiction, and this could be easily attributed to the time periods, but RocknRolla was doused in homoerotic overtones. From the sodomy to the gay side characters to the subplot of Butler and his best friend in the gang, it never gets too far away from it. This provided for some really amusing humor and grinningly awkward scenes. Idris gets to play the straight man, no pun intended, to Butler's machismo and he achieves it well. There is a certain calm to Idris on screen which makes me certain he's going to be around for a long time to come. Tom Wilkinson also gets to walk a little on the more wacky side as the crime boss of London, trying to prove he's still the big fish in town and time isn't passing him by. Thandie, who I've enjoyed on screen in the past, doesn't travel much farther beyond eye candy on this occasion. Jeremy Piven and Ludacris drop by as music producers, but get paltry little screen time. The one person who will leave the biggest visual impression is Toby Kebbell, as Johnny Quid. He spends most of the film shirtless and brings back frighteningly skinny images of Chistian Bale from The Machinist. Bale still wins the freakish battle, but Kebbell kept enough muscle tone to still look dangerous as well, which gives him an edge. Lastly, blink and you'll miss Gemma Arterton, who will be seeing much more of in the upcoming Bond film, Quantum of Solace.

Ritchie on the other hand delivers once again in more traditional style. As I mentioned before, fans of those two early films of his will certainly enjoy this. The attitude is there, the raw edge is there and the camerawork is rife with quick cuts and whip pans, just like we're used to from him. He also wrote the film again, which helps even more keep the style intact. I think many people will be glad to see the old Guy Ritchie back on the silver screen. Yet, all his past successes could be wiped out by the possibility of greatness with his upcoming film, Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the questioning crusader, Jude Law as the encyclopedic Dr. Watson and Rachel McAdams as lady love interest. I'm containing my excitement for this, but just barely.

Recommendation: A good flick, bordering on great, far from amazing. If you're a fan of Ritchie from the past, you won't be disappointed. If you've never seen a film of his before, feel free to check this out, but don't stop here, see Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as well. As for the theater experience, after the initial whip panning frenzy in the first ten minutes, it settles down and becomes quite enjoyable. I also recommend Rasinettes over Goobers (take that, peanut lovers!).

Following in the footsteps of the Nike Soccer ad directed by Guy Ritchie, Nike has tapped yet another critically-acclaimed director to shoot a Nike Football commercial, this time of the American Gridiron variety. David Fincher, reknowned director of Se7en ("What's in the bohhhx!?") and Fight Club among others, helms this ad which again follows the life of a destined-to-be pro athlete, although this time it's the Pittsburgh Steelers' Troy Polamalu and San Diego Chargers' LaDainian Tomlinson (apparently NikeBlog's favorite new subject). Illustrating their lives from birth to the NFL, the minute-long spot is a gritty, behind-the-scenes view of what it takes to become an NFL standout.

Or as it’s called in Guy Ritchie’s newest film—a Rocknrolla.

So what exactly is a Rocknrolla? He is the best of the worst. Drugs, sex and rock n’roll are not just a part of his life—they are his life. With Ritchie’s action-comedy set on the streets of London, we all get to visit this world, but thankfully, don’t have to stay in it forever. Because really, no one wants to deal with guns, bongs and torture on a regular basis (I think).

Ritchie, whose past hits Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch also explored the rougher edges of London, finds a rare balance between hard-hitting action and quirky dark humor. The cast of merry madmen, the interweaving of interesting storylines and a unique visual style all add up to a fun time in the underworld of London crime.....

Two things worry me about this. First off: Guy Ritchie - I mean come on, Guy Ritchie? This man has not made a decent film in eight years; and even the two ok ones aren't really all that good. But wait a minute, are we being unfair? Are our fears unfounded? After all, as the man himself so eloquently puts it:

"I have a few tricks up my sleeve.. I think. Um, so it won't be a traditional, er, sort of, Guy Ritchie thing, it will be a new Guy Ritchie...thing."

Followed by an apologetic shrug. Good to know that he may or may not have a few tricks up his sleeve, and that this will be a new, er, Guy Ritchie, er, thing. Shrug.

Decisive, articulate and assertive: all the traits you look for in a director, I'm sure.

The second worry I have is this:

"What we've done is hopefully launched, I hope, a franchise of Sherlock Holmes stories."

So says producer Joel Silver. Great to see them being so open about their motives for producing the film. And we can rest assured there'll be more to follow - regardless of the quality of the first - as long as the toys, video games, spin-off tv series' and lunchboxes make them a bob or two.

But you know, let's not judge it just yet. We'll wait until we see the trailer and make a snap decision on it then.

There's many things an intrepid movie blogger such as myself can handle.   I made it through a viewing of Cannibal Holocaust once, finishing the movie drenched in my own tears, sorrow and fighting back my gag reflex.   I have withstood the horrors of movies such as High School Musical with a headache and half my teeth ground down.    I have sat through to the bitter, bitter end of every Daniel Day-Lewis movie I've ever seen, which is phenomenal given my fiery distaste for Day-Lewis.

But when you throw something at me like Ray Liotta's bare ass bathed in the soothing, unnaturally cool blue of a personal tanning room as he screams at an assistant followed by a shocking close up of his pock-marked face with a heavy emphasis on Ray Liotta's scary, scary set of chompers, that's more than this lady can handle.    That's where I checked out on this one, stifling my own fears to run far, far away and deep into the comfort of a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

So I don't know what to tell you.   If you like freaky naked Ray Liotta, then this is totally the movie for you.

Note to Guy Ritchie:   We may have to have an intervention, friend.

En la, de moment, primera incursió que he fet al festival he pogut veure un remake d'un clàssic de l'anime: Evangelion 1.0. Bàsicament pensen reeditar tota la sèrie en format pel·lícula de llarga duració i dividida en 4 volums. Si la mireu veureu que han comprimit la primera quarta part de la sèrie en dues hores. Molt plans els recordereu exactament iguals, d'altres lleugerament retocats (l'animació ha avançat molt en, què, 8-10 anys ja?) i alguna escena inèdita i curiosa. Les veus són noves però resultones (el Shinji encara és més nenaza: si, és possible) i s'agraeix que hagin remasteritzat els efectes de so. Caldrà veure que fan amb la continuació, perquè si la sèrie ja és densa de collons en 24 capítols, comprimida en 4 pel·lícules... Un must-see de l'animació japonesa. I afegir que em va sorprendre que El Retiro s'omplís de gent no només de la meva edat sinó també de més granadeta.

La següent projecció, aquest cop a l'Auditori de l'Hotel Melià, va ser Rocknrolla. Una pel·lícula de Guy Ritchie (Snatch; Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...) en la seva línia. En aquesta es barregen un mafios rus podrit de pasta, una contable pija i corrupta, delinqüents londinencs de totes les classes socials i més personatges de l'estil. Riures assegurats, violència (de la divertida) i, sobretot, una curiosa fotografia. A destacar l'escena del polvo (us partireu de riure), els balls de Mr. One Two i la persecució dels matons russos.

O próximo Sherlock Holmes a aparecer nas telas de cinema terá muito pouco a ver com a imagem consagrada do famoso detetive. Terá "dons de luta tão letais quanto seu lendário intelecto", conta o material promocional do filme, que deve estrear no ano que vem.

"Ele é um esquisitão, estudante de algum tipo de arte marcial nebuloso", diz Robert Downey Jr., que interpretará Holmes. "E também patriota, boêmio, um cara que não opera nos moldes da Scotland Yard", completa o ator.

Para fazer o inseparável Watson, o escalado foi Jude Law. O escudeiro do detetive será "um cirurgião do Exército, veterano de guerra, que tem uma relação de co-dependência com Holmes, mas com vida própria", nas palavras de Downey Jr.

O filme será dirigido por Guy Ritchie, que fez "Snatch", "Jogos, Trapaças e Dois Canos Fumegantes" e uma infinidade de títulos menos lembrados.

Vai haver bastante luta? "Provavelmente. Queremos fazer um filme de diversão, então deve ter mais cenas de luta", diz o diretor, que avisa que não será nada parecido com seus filmes anteriores, de estilo bastante similar. "Eu tenho alguns truques na minha manga."

• Bravo has tapped Aimee Viles VP of new media. Viles will supervise Bravo's wireless, interactive TV, gaming and other emerging media initiatives. Where are the Roseanne Connors, the titular character on ABC's long-running "Roseanne," who went through a series of bad-to-worse jobs and family cash-flow crises? Where are the Norm Petersons, who rode out most of the '80s unemployed on a bar stool on "Cheers"?

Social commentators point to the pop culture worship of celebrity and the push for conspicuous consumption in a countrywhere individuals as well as institutions are maxed out on their credit cards. Who wants to become involved with characters fretting about losing their homes when there's fresh dirt on Britney or a celeb-gone-wild vid to seek out on YouTube.

Biz veterans say the trend in scripted entertainment has less to do with rampant elitism in Hollywood than the harsh reality of trying to program for mass appeal in a 200-channel, multiplatform universe. With viewers having so many more entertainment options, major network shows need a high-concept hook that is easily marketed as something different.

"If you came in to pitch 'Cheers' today, I think the networks would say, 'There's not a lot of sizzle there. It's just people in a bar,' " says comedy writer Ken Levine, whose long resume includes that classic NBC sitcom.

Working-class folks are more easily found as contestants on reality shows, where they're always vying for a pot of gold to change their lives. Or if their jobs are exotic or yucky enough, they might wind up on an episode of a docu-reality shows like Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs."

Levine points to the overall dearth of comedy as another factor in the invisibility of blue-collar folks on TV. Going back to the days of Ralph Kramden on "The Honeymooners," the half-hour form was the prime vehicle for allowing the vast expanse of viewers to laugh at the predicaments of folks more or less like themselves.

Why is it so hard? That's the $64,000 question.

I think sometimes people just try too hard. They try to get inside the head of their subject and overthink the problem. It's easy to get caught up in all the facts you're trying to get across or the cool new equipment the director wants to try out or the awesome effects the editor wants to apply in post.

Sometimes the hardest part is keeping it simple.

That's what this Nike Football (silly Americans, not that kind of football) ad does so well. It keeps it simple. Want to get inside a player's head? Act as if the camera was the players head. Give the audience a front row seat in the player's head, literally. Of course, having Guy Ritchie direct the spot also helps to make it great, but with a concept this simple and brilliant even I could make a kick-ass spot. Ok, maybe not me, but I bet the guys over at Reel Motion Video could.

Hancock villain Eddie Marsan has been cast opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes.

Marsan will portray Inspector Lestrade, a Scotland Yard detective and ally of Holmes in Guy Ritchie's revamped story of the Baker Street sleuth.

The actor, whose credits also include Happy-Go-Lucky, Miami Vice and Mission: Impossible III, said: "I'm doing Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. I play Inspector Lestrade. Holmes describes him as a man with no imagination."

Speaking to DS about how the movie will differ from previous incarnations, Marsan added: "Holmes and Watson are a lot younger, bohemian. It works. Reading the script, Robert Downey Jr. is just perfect for a modern-day Holmes. Also he's a bit of totty, as well!"

Since I've been very negative about this film let me think of something positive... er.... oh, they decided to cast Holmes and Watson younger... which is good since they are fairly young in the stories. Seriously though, a combination of Guy Ritchie (a man who might just have inherited Ed Wood's mantle) and Jude Law (wooden isn't even close to his acting style) might bring in some money but this film is going the same way as 'Revolver'.

Oh yes, I am really looking forward to this movie coming out and will be there at the cinema on opening day.Guy Ritchie has proved himself to me and his previous "cockney gangster" films have not only left me in stiches and endlessly entertained but also keep coming back for more. I am sure that this one will be in the same style and look of his other films, namely Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and the more recent Revolver, but it doesn't bother me at all because to tell you the truth I could watch each one of those films a hundred times each and not get bored. Guy Ritchie brings some fresh blood in and it will be great to see these new actors turning top notch performances. With a name like that it is bound for great things.

The guy more popularly known as Madonna’s husband is set to direct the new Sherlock Holmes movie starring with Robert Downey, Jr. holmes’ sidekick Watson will be played by Jude Law.
And, despite awful rumors of Sienna Miller joining the cast, I have some very good news.
Rachel McAdams is now being said to star opposite Downey, Jr. in the flick.
McAdams, who was in The Wedding Crashers and The Notebook, will now play Holmes’ love interest, Irene Adler.
