RICKY Hatton is all set to embark on a new career - as a stand-up comedian.

But the Hitman intends to keep knocking 'em flat in the ring for at least another two years as well as knocking 'em dead with the gags which have made him one of the hottest tickets on the after dinner circuit.

The world light-welterweight number one begins a tour of small theatres next week, and is also lined up to star in a film alongside Johnny Vegas. Read full story...

the search is on for the next opponent of the world's best pound for pound boxer today and Philippines' pride Manny Pacquiao.

On top of the list is Edwin Valero, the devastating fighter from Venezuela.

News circulating states that Valero has the inside track of the November 8 slated fight of Pacquiao.

Now is he the best opponent to choose if one is given the chance?

From my end I say no.

Why?

For some simple and practical reasons.

Valero will have nothing to lose but everything to gain.

Valero has an incredible boxing record of 24 wins no loss with all his wins by knockout including 19 in the first round.

He is currently the reigning World Boxing Association super-featherwieght champion.

Valero, 26 and managed by Akihiko Honda is no push over and obviously again a very dangerous opponent.

I find it too risky for Pacquiao to face Valero considering his status. When risk everything if you have other ways to still avoid it.

Why not face Ricky Hatton of Great Britain or Jose Casamayor.

In case he square off against Englishman Hatton even in his current 140 lbs division, super-lightweight, he will be up against an equally popular fighter and with fan or support base.

It will be i think Pacquiao best option.

After the fight it will be time for Manny to think of retiring. That will be again another piece. . .

Jade and Josh are staying at my mum's for the weekend. With a small person. Cousin Linda is staying with Jeanette and Ian. We all spent Saturday together. Except for Leah who was still away at Brownie camp having lots of badge-earning fun. First we went to Hatton. I bought a sweet little case/box/storage container for my room, two little wooden hearts (one to keep and one for a gift), and a very very very cool second-hand phone from the antique shop. It's a funky white rabbit. It's actually brilliant. Emma bought a camper van phone. Also brilliant! We all had coffee and some of us had burgers and spent a fair amount of time trying to decide if they were actually cooked. I also spent rather a lot of time in the sweet shop. I was very tempted by a tin with a lovely rabbity picture on the front. It contained four small bars of chocolate. It cost £5.99. I decided against it on this occasion.

From Hatton, we made our way to Shakespeare's Country, the beautiful Stratford. People seemed to be very surprised that I am perfectly capable of giving Emma a piggy back despite the fact that she is approximately three and a half stone heavier than my good self. I can walk with her on my back. But I can't run. I know this because I've tried. I found a sweet shop, equally as lovely as the one at Hatton. I bought for Emma a chocolate bunny rabbit. She said it was very good. It look very good. So I have decided to believe her. I also bought three small furry bears from the teddy bear shop. The turquoise one is for my room. The cream one is for a gift. The sunshine one will probably end up being a gift also. I got a large sheet of Rupert the Bear wrapping paper. Just because I liked it. Finally, I bought a strawberry print bag. It's made of that plasticky paper that I would guess a 'carrier bag for life' is made of. It was very reasonably priced. There were also red polka dot ones. I'm now wishing I bought both.

The weather in Scotland is mental. We have not had so many hot days in a row.

For the last couple of weeks I have spent my days in doors. The only time I am getting outside is when I bike too and from work.

Today was different at my other job (photography) I got paid to spend the WHOLE day out side. I could have not been any happier. From 9am till 5pm I was outside.

Every month I photograph for a Company Decathlon called Activity Mix. This was the first event out doors, the event was Touch Rugby. It was great. My first task is to take team photographs and second task is to capture the action photos.

Some time this is easy some times it’s hard but today was a walk in the park (literally). The teams were screaming at me for photos. And the action shots were coming in fast thanks to the amazing Nikon D3 I use.

So the day was great, although I never got any lunch for being to busy and manage to burn my head.

Fav team Photograph

Think of your own captions for this :)

Night time was better. I just got in the door of my girlfriends house when my phone goes. One of the directors from my part time job needed help. Now if it had been any one else I would have told them were to go because I was shattered and had a busy night a head but I was in a good mood. I had to help quickly set up a mobile disco which was just around the corner from where I was. It took 10 minutes which was fine.

After that I headed down to the supermarket because I was cooking dinner to night for 8 people and need some more ingredients.

Tonight I was making Baked Potato and Chilli. After slaving away in the kitchen fro 2 hours every thing was cooked, every one loved it (licked their plates clean). Photograph and cooking are a like. You spend hours preparing and working and when every one like the finished product you not only get a relief cause you succeeded but a boosted confidence cause you did well.

Once every one was stuffed we sat down to watch the Ricky Hatton fight which was a great match.

Hats off to the poor bastard in the match before, having to get you dread locks cut off cause they would not stay tied up. He will never live that down.

"the biggest fight of 2008"

Perhaps they don't get Setanta over in Osterley? Meanwhile, if you work over at Virgin Media, how many people channels does it take to change a lightbulb show a single PPV event? The answer apparently is 3, judging by the 'PPV Events 3' channel which has shown up (but where are the other 2?). Must be a backup in case they mess up PPV yet again.

Yes, alongside the 'What's in your man drawer?' and 'I feel like a tart after 50 one-night stands' articles in today's Sun, is this peach of a quote from Hatton on page 46

I see similarities in my career to Naz. He was one of the best fighters Britain has ever had. He got beat, came back with a mediocre performance and disappeared off the face of the earth....

Too much information perhaps?

Meanwhile, former 'marmite mayor' Livingstone is joining LBC. Alas, joining commercial radio probably means he won't be able to find jobs for all his socialist mates this time.

As you can see it was very busy! We had a bit of a picnic then browsed the shops and I took many photos of round things (my latest obsession is squircling - best not ask!). Emma made a new friend outside the toy shop. I bought some baby shoes. They're very lovely. And very very fragile. I know this because a tiny piece broke off in my hand when I was placing them on a shelf in my room. It was just one of those things I had to have. They weren't all that expensive!

Then Emma dragged me kicking and screaming into the garden bit. Actually, it is fun in there. There are boxes and boxes of stones with names on. I had a bit of a funny turn when I saw these two stones near the top of one of the boxes. I kept looking over my shoulder for the rest of the outing....

There's a fab chocolate shop. Emma offered to buy me something but I didn't let her. Everything in there is incredibly posh. And, much as I love all chocolate, expensive chocolate is wasted on me. Not because I don't like it. I do. But I don't savour it. It's gone in ten seconds - the same as a cheap bar would be. Most of the chololate on offer at this particular chocolate shop is imported. Heidel, Lindt, Goldkenn, Valrhona, Heilemann. A bar of chocolate about the size of a mars bar or a snickers was about £2 - £3. A fairly small but rather ornate chocolate bunny was £8. There was a larger one for £17. Chewy sweets similar in size to a pack of chewitts were 95p. I did enjoy looking though. And smelling. These ducks (which are a LOT smaller than they look in the photo and £1.50 each) really caught my fancy....

I got Emma a chocolate ice cream with a flake. Well, she paid for it. But I queued for twenty minutes so it was kind of a gift. And I bought the dodgy looking cat for 50p from the garden shop. He's ugly and sweet and now sat on a shelf in my bedroom (quite close to the white baby shoes).

We also got these two big feet from there. They've got loads and loads of stepping stones. I think Peanut likes these ones. The two rabbits came from the garden shop too. Not the furry fleshy ones. The sandy coloured one, carved from wood. And the ugly grey one with the bulging eyes , made from whatever the stuff is those things are usually made from. Heavy? Leaves powder on your clothes? Breaks if you drop it??? Anyway it was only after I got home that I realised they matched our real life bunnies. Incidentally, I picked Bess up for the first time today and put her out in the rabbit run. I was incredibly pleased with myself. She's getting much more tame. I think I'm beginning to love her quite a lot. And Oscar's just, well, wonderful.

Dear Friend:

Remember when you were 16 years old? I don’t know about you, but I was consumed with life as a kid: playing with kids around the neighborhood, trying to be cool in high school, complaining about my parents, dealing with boyfriend-girlfriend issues—stuff like that.

I just had a conversation with a 16-year-old girl who’s playing life at a much higher level than that, and she needs our help. Perhaps you know Grace Hatton. She’s the girl with the British accent who’s working on getting her own book published.

Grace moved to the U.S. with her family when she was 11. She left her world, her friends and the rest of her family behind to come to a new country and start a new life. Grace has been here for a few years, but she still feels like she’s “new” here. She doesn’t have a big support network to call on.

Getting published is hard enough, but imagine trying to do it while you’re still a kid…

The good news is that Grace has a message. She wants to publish a book on dating for teens—but with a new twist. It’s a book written for teen-age girls by a teen-age girl.

So far it hasn’t been easy. Without a big network of friends and family, Grace says it’s been difficult but she has a shot at making the connections that can help her book be successful.

I also asked Grace what she would do when she is succesful. Her answer was all about helping others—about giving back. She wants to help other teens connect and gain confidence. In the long run, she wants to do seminars to help young girls. She also wants to help set up orphanages in Africa.

There is something about Grace that makes me believe she is capable of doing this, and that she is genuine about it.

Aaarrrgghhh! I can't get any further into the Las Vegas story without coming up against plot problems, so there'll be no more until I can ease out the knots. Also, writing about Vegas, watching the TV series Las Vegas, accidentally catching a children's morning show about Vegas and people from work going to Vegas has made me really hanker after going back and revelling in some of the excesses. Maybe we can live there for a bit (not sure how Mrs Manc will feel about that!) before we settle. Maybe not.

I could be a professional Northerner, maybe have a Northern theme night, there'll be enough of my kind there to get people interested. Maybe once Hatton retires he could do stand-up as a lounge act, he's really rather good at it.

Anyway, that's the future, and who knows what that holds. Apart from Mystic Meg, obviously.
