Pues buscando en los artbook de estos dos grandes directores me encontré estas dos imágenes donde aclaran si un caso la gran devoción de estos utilitarios tan "comunes" para nosotros.  En el artbook del señor Hideaki Anno hay una ilustración del Alpine A310 al más alto nivel, detallando incluso el interior del auto.

En el caso del maestro Akira Toriyama ya nos sorprendió con el mencionado Renault 5 en Dragon Ball pero años antes ya nos mostró su interés por los coches europeos concretamente con el Fiat 500 y A112 Abarth muy bien acompañados por los míticos personajes de la serie Dr. Slump.

Giubilo e gaudio alla notizia confermata dell'arrivo di quel film splendido che è "Tonari no Totoro" ovvero "Il mio vicino Totoro" lontano capolavoro (1988 ) dello studio Ghibli di quel geniaccio che è Hayao Miyazaki.
Il film uscirà il 14 Novembre sotto l'ala della Lucky Red e porterà finalmente questo pezzo di cinema anche da noi in una versione che non richiederà occhi multipli visto che fin'ora l'unico modo per poter visionare l'opera è stata con i sottotitoli.

La storia parla di due sorelline,Satsuki e Mei,che insieme al padre si trasferiscono in una malandata casetta nelle campagne di un Giappone molto rustico dove si narra della leggenda di Totoro,spirito protetettore delle foreste.
La storia procede lineare e i messaggi che manda sono i soliti di Miyazaki che anche qui non rinuncia a far volare i suoi protagonisti in una delle sequenze più belle del film,film che tral'altro ha "promosso" i famosi spiritelli della fuliggine (i cosini neri simil-pelosi che appaiono anche nella Città Incatanta) per non parlare del Gatto-Bus se poi siete fan di un'altro maestro,Hideaki Anno,saprete che Totoro è il personaggio preferito di una delle protagoniste di "Le situazioni di lui e lei"...chi indovina vince un appuntamento con me of course XD

נאון ג'נסיס אוונגליון הוא שמה של סדרת כותרים שהפצתם החלה באמצע שנות התשעים וכרכים נוספים במנגה (שנכתבה במקביל לאנימה) ממשיכים לצאת לאור מדי פעם. הכותר הראשון והמוכר ביותר היה סדרת הטלוויזיה ששודרה ביפן בשנת 1995 והיא נחשב ת עד היום לאחת מסדרות האנימה הטובות והמוצלחות ביותר שיצאו אי-פעם. היא מהווה ציון דרך בז'אנר המאכה והשפעתה ניכרת באנימות רבות בסגנון (ובסגנונות אחרים).

האנימה הופקה בסטודיו Gainax (גורן לאגאן) ויוצרה המקורי היה הידאקי אנו (Hideaki Anno), שסיפר כי הרעיון וההשראה לסיפור הגיעו בעקבות משבר גדול בחייו הפרטיים (וכך זה באמת נראה). האנימה פונה לנבכיה האפלים ביותר של הנשמה האנושית ושואלת שאלות שאף אחד לא אוהב לשאול, על הנשמה עצמה ועל הנשמות הסובבות אותה. מעולם לא ראיתי דרמה פסיכולוגית עוצמתית כל-כך שמשתמשת בצורה כזו באלמנטים הזויים מעולם המדע הבדיוני, כמו גם בביטויים ומושגים מעולם הפסיכואנליטיקה. הידאקי מצליח להעביר את המסר, ויותר מפעם אחת זה מרגיש כמו סטירה מצלצלת. האנימציה טובה מהממוצע ובמקרים מסוימים אפילו מצוינת. בעיקר אהבתי את המכניקה ופיזיקת התנועה של הדמויות. יותר מפעם אחת הרגשתי שרובוטי הענק נעים בצורה אנושית יותר מהדמויות עצמן. הפסקול טוב מאוד ומעביר את האווירה בהצלחה. העלילה מפותחת בצורה מדהימה והפיתוח שלה ממשיך עד הפרקים האחרונים.

בעקבות ביקורות קשות על הפרקים האחרונים בסדרה (ומכתבי איום ברצח) החליט הידאקי לביים פרק חדש שמספר את הסיפור מזוית אחרת וגם ממשיך אותו אחרי סיום קו העלילה המקורי. מספר שנים לאחר מכן הופק עיבוד נוסף לסדרה (סרט באורך מלא) שהציג את תחילתה וסופה בצורה קצת אחרת, ובשנת 2006 החלו בעבודה על סדרת סרטים (Rebuild of Evangelion) שמספרים את הסיפור כולו מהתחלה, בעיבוד מחודש מכל הבחינות.

בשנת 2000 הזדעזע עולמנו בפיצוץ אדיר (מה, לא שמעתם?) שהשמיד את רוב חלקי העולם וכמעט הכחיד את המין האנושי. הרשויות טענו שמדובר במטאוריט ענק, ובני האדם החלו בתהליך שיקום העולם. סיפורנו מתחיל 15 שנים אחרי האסון שקיבל את השם, "פגיעה השנייה" ואנו פוגשים לראשונה את גיבור הסיפור, איקארי שינג'י. שינג'י הוא ילדון מופנם וביישן בן 14 שמקבל הודעה מפתיעה מאביו הקוראת לו לבוא לבקר אותו בטוקיו-3 (עיר שנבנתה לאחר האסון הגדול וחלקה נמצא מתחת לאדמה). ההודעה מפתיעה את שינג'י, מפני שאביו ניתק עימו את הקשר מספר שנים לפני לכן, אחרי פטירתה של אשתו - אמו של שינג'י. הילד מגיע לטוקיו-3, מרוגש וסקרן, אך מהר מאוד מגלה שאביו לא קרא לו במטרה לחדש את הקשר, אלא בשביל להשתמש בו.

אביו של שינג'י מנהל ארגון ענק בשם NERV ותפקידו להגן על האנושות מפני אויביה החדשים - המלאכים. מאז ה"פגיעה השנייה" החלו להגיע מדי כמה שנים, יצורי ענק מזן לא ידוע ובני האדם החליטו לקרוא להם "מלאכים". לנשקים רגילים אין השפעה נגדם ואפילו פצצות מימן לא חודרות את הגנותיהם. הכלי היחיד שמסוגל לעמוד בפניהם ואף לנצח אותם הוא רובוטי ה-Evangelion או בקיצור - EVA. ב-EVA לא יכול לנהוג כל אחד, אלא רק ה"ילדים הנבחרים" שמסוגלים להסתנכרן בהצלחה עם הרובוטים ולשלוט בהם כרצונם.

שינג'י מגלה שהוא אחד מ"הילדים הנבחרים" והוא מתבקש לשבת בכסא השליטה של הרובוט הענק והמוזר. ולא רק אביו דורש שיעשה זאת - האנושות כולה מצפה שיעזור בהגנה עליה.

הגבלת צפייה: העלילה לא תובן כהלכה ע"י ילדים והיא עשויה גם להותיר טראומה או שתיים. יש אלימות והמון גרוטסקיות. גם כשלא מדובר באדם שמדמם - המחזה לא נעים כלל. יש מדי פעם עירום, אבל לא מוגזם.

Chi è Hideaki Anno? VERGOGNA ESTREMA!
Uno dei più grandi,visionari e fuori di testa registi,e non solo,del Giappone..ma che dico Giappone DEL MONDO,riuscirebbe a rendere bello anche "Il bello delle donne".
Chi è Cutie Honey? tutti (spero) conosciamo Sailor Moon (le trasformazioni urlate e la frase di presentazione vengono da Honey) o più in generale il filone di anime e manga che parla della così dette maghette più o meno sexy,ebbene Cutie Honey è la madre di queste signorine per molti versi.
Partorita dalla mente malefica di Go Nagai (Devilman,Black Jack per citarne due)è poi diventata protagonista di svariate versioni animate,di OAV e manga tutti che riprendevano più o meno liberamente la storia di Kisaragi Honey,ragazza cibernetica piuttosto svampita a seconda delle versioni,sempre poco svestita e sempre pronta a rimanere con tette e vagina al vento.
Il film è ambientato nel nostro secolo e parla di Honey(la bellissima Eriko Sato)impegnata a difendere il mondo dall'organizzazione Panther Claw (intenzionata ad appropriarsi dell'Ai System) e a lavorare in un freddo ufficio dove viene sfruttata in cambio di Onigiri,un giorno come un'altro il suo zio viene rapito da Gold Claw,uno dei generali della sopracitata organizzazione e da li incontrerà altre due figure importanti nella storia ovvero il reporter Hayami Seiji(Jun Murakami) e la poliziotta Aki Natsuko(Mikako Ichikawa).
La storia è piuttosto scontata ma quello che colpisce è l'atmosfera che permea in tutto il film,una leggerezza palpabilissima tanto dalla coloratissima fotografia quanto dall'utilizzo di una particolare tecnica ideata da Anno che mescola cartone con film...non saprei spiegarvela^^ nonostante questa aria così piacevoli la drammaticità di alcune situazioni ben si adatta al film e non solo riesce nell'intento di dare spessore ai personaggi e alle situazioni ma riesce anche a coinvolgere lo spettatore purchè egli non si aspetti un film d'autore,tutto stà nel come si affronta a priori la visione del film.

Nonostante quanto scritto sopra non posso nascondervi come trovo che certe scene sia delle pietre miliari del cinema per il semplice motivo che la loro comicità è così contagiosa e azzeccata senza proporre chissà quali azzardi una scena in particolare è estremamente divertente (ma al tempo stesso mostra anche un pò la tristezza di fondo dietro i protagonisti della storia)ovvero quella del Karaoke...geniale!

Difetti? ci stanno a partire appunto dalla storia debole fino ad arrivare alla nemesi del film,Sister Jill,che nulla spartisce con la Jill originale,una tettona malefica procace e decisamente femminile che qui invece è un tizio agghindato come la Montalcini per non parlare poi del finale pseudo ambientalista che rovina un bel pò il ritmo del film inoltre far cantare Kumi Koda in inglese è un reato!
Già che nomino Kumi Koda avrete capito che la colonna sonora è sua e riprende i due temi,apertura e chiusura,dell'originale Honey e(a parte la parentesi anglofona) è veramente ben fatta.

Il film doveva essere portato da noi dalla Shin Vision ma non ne ho più visto traccia,però resta reperibile in rete con sottotitoli in italiano anche se è preferibile la versione sottotitolata in inglese per la cura in essa riposta.

Dopo il jump i primi 10 minuti del film e consigli su Honey.

Consigli di chiusura:se Honey vi interessa di più recuperate la primissima serie TV (mai trasmessa al di fuori del Giappone e della Francia) con character design di quel mostro di Shingo Araki (Lady Oscar,Saint Seya) e storia molto fedele al manga con tanto di scuola cattolica tutta al femminile e popolata unicamente da lesbiche (famoso Go Nagai per la sua satira sulle più diffuse istituzioni).
è uscita di recente una versione telefilm di Cutie Honey ribattezzata semplicemente The Live,interessante per il suo approccio leggermente erotico/ironico e per le scene d'azione molto curate e che spesso sono attuate dalle attrici e non dagli stunt.
Se vi interessa questo genere di eroina così sessualmente evoluta recuperate anche Kekko Kamen sempre del maestro Nagai uscita anche in Italia.

O ano de 1995 é um marco especial para os animes, porque até esta data a indústria de animes estava em decadência e foi neste ano surgiram dois grandes sucessos que deram a revitalização que era necessária, mudaram não somente a parte econômica das animações japonesas, mas também uma boa parte da narrativa e da qualidade visual dos animes: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing e Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Enquanto o primeiro é uma "continuação" de uma série bem estabelecida, Evangelion era algo novo. Bem, não totalmente já que ele continha vários clichés do mundo dos animes: robôs gigantes; garotos pilotando robôs; mundo semi-destruído e por ai vai. Mas Evangelion tinha coisas novas: uma grande carga de drama psicológico; conflito entre pai e filho; segredos mil; conexões com a história bíblica e um protagonista completamente diferente dos outros que até então haviam aparecido.

Falar sobre Eva e contar qualquer coisa da história é entrar em uma série de spoilers que podem estragar a diversão que se possa adquirir quando se está vendo a série de tv, o filme e o remake para cinema, Rebuild of Evangelion: You are (not) alone, que é sobre o que realmente quero falar.

O filme é novo, traz a história contada de uma forma diferente e vem com cenas incríveis. Lançado em 1º de Setembro de 2007 nos cinemas, e em 25 de Abril em DVD, o filme reconta a história de Shinji Ikari, um garoto que afastado do pai por muitos anos e volta a encontra-lo após receber chamado seu. A partir daí o que vemos é uma das melhores obras de animação de todos os tempos. Cenas que foram apresentadas na série de tv são revistas de forma mais clara, mais animada e com certeza com mais duplo sentido como o próprio título já diz. A linha geral da história parece ser a mesma, mas pouco a pouco vemos que muita coisa mudou e ainda vai mudar e ao final do filme somos brindados com as "cenas do próximo capítulo" que ao estilo Evangelion nos deixa com muita água na boca.

É interessante ver que a identificação visual do filme também foi refeita, os Estúdios Gainax repaginaram as diversas logomarcas que aparecem no filme como a Seele e a Nerv.

A trilha sonora foi toda refeita e a mudança é fantástica, várias músicas da série estão de volta com novo arranjo e encaixam perfeitamente na montagem do filme, tornando ele ainda melhor. A canção tema "Beautiful World" cantada por Utada Hikaru é um grande presente, e é uma pena que só a ouvimos quando os créditos já estão passando.

A recepção do filme no Japão foi excelente, o que provavelmente deve se repetir quando o mesmo sair nos Estados Unidos. Com certeza é algo imperdível. Mas aconselho aqueles que ainda não viram a série, que a vejam antes de ver o filme, porque somente assim poderão perceber não somente a evolução do anime, como também ser absorvido na trama fantástica de Eva.

Come si può riassumere il fenomeno di Neon Genesis Evangelion senza evitare strafalcioni?
La serie robotica degli anni 90 che più ha emozianto,commosso e fatto parlare,intrisa di misticismo (la Cabala è presente praticametne...SEMPRE) e argomenti controversi(certe pippe si fa Shinji...in tutti i sensi!),ha saputo donare al mondo degli anime personaggi come Rei Ayanami e ha fatto conoscere ancora di più quel mostro di Hideaki Anno (Love&Pop,Cutie Honey) sinceramente non so proprio dove parare su questa opera pantagruelica,azzarderei anche che potrebbe essere una Fenomenologia dello spirito in chiave ultramoderna insomma roba da andare fuori di testa!

Questa "nuova" serie cinematografica si propone di rileggere totalmente la storia degli Eva,della Nerv e di quei 14enni psicotici (no no niente karampane!) che saranno i piloti degli antropomorfi robot a partire dal timido Shinji Ikari,abbandonato dal padre dopo la morte della madre (ci mancava che lo partoriva mentre era impiccata a la Berserk),il quale dopo 4 anni risbuca fuori per usarlo come pilota degli Evangelion appunto,giganteschi robot dalle sembianze umanoidi chiamati per numero (00,01 e così via) creati per combattere gli Angeli che di angelico hanno giusto il nome,in tutto ciò Shinji è supervisionato da Misato Katsuragi una donna dal passato disastroso molto amica di Ritsuko Akagi che pure lei sfigata fino al midollo(per farsi quel bastardo di Gendo Ikari tocca esse malati) poi poi...dovrei parlarvi del Second Impact che sarebbe la causa scatenante di questa guerra oppure del personaggio da LSD che è Rei Ayanami,oggetto erotico,poi materno,surrogato di moglie,figlia...di tutto.

Il film racconta le vicende dell'anime fino all'episodio numero 6 ma cosa cambia?sostanzialmente nulla se non dei disegni decisamente all'avanguardia (anche se la Gainax ha riutilizzato diversi Cel come da loro orrenda tradizione...e si vede!),una Computer Graphic perfetta e alcune scene rinnovate o totalmente nuove nonchè una dose di Fan Service assurda(di Rei aggiungeranno un'ulteriore scena tutta nuda...inutile!).Alla fine del film un piccolo scorcio del secondo film che invece si presenterà più succulento anche perchè arriveranno la figura tragicissima di Asuka che vabbè arriva nel tempo giusto ma vedremo nuovi Eva ovvero lo 05 provvisorio,monocolo,lo 04 che scompare,l'Eva 06 e ovviamente lo 03 poi arriverà un nuovo personaggio femminile e...Kaworu Nagisa!

Quindi facciamo il punto:se amate Evangelion dovete vederlo anche se sapete la trama a memoria perchè merita e le nuove scene sono interessanti,se non conoscete la serie ve lo consiglio se avete intenzione però di consumare un prodotto piuttosto pesante quindi prima vedrei la serie tv,mi farei la bocca,vedrei il film The End of Evangelion (Lilith) e poi si parte con questa rilettura che dal secondo episodio promette svolte incredibili (e tanto tanto fan service) insomma ai posteri l'ardua sentenza.

PS:recuperate "Il mistero della pietra azzurra" sempre della Gainax di cui esiste la versione italiana integrale,bellissima serie davvero poi se amate la comicità demenziale vi propongo "FLCL" prodotto estremamente sperimentale altrimenti io riconsiglio "Cutie Honey"in quanto commedia leggera,divertente e che vi farà passare una bella oretta e passa in totale(quasi) spensieratezza.

These are just some of the things people are saying about NGE on the net. Its basically a global worship of it. And I can go on until tomorrow finding quotes.

It baffles me though. Why??? Well, I think I qualify as an almost veteran-level Otaku now.  Just some of what I've seen and continue to follow include :

So I'm no n00b. However, I'm yet to see what's the big deal about NGE. It isn't deserving of most of the worship of anime fans as its been subjected to, and for crying out loud, stop saying its the work of a genius.

I really did try to like NGE, after having read some of the above comments about it. But I tried and failed, as not only does NGE not live up to its hype, but I think it SUCKED, to the point of, after watching all 26 episodes and the movies, being angry for wasting approximately 1000 minutes of my time.

NGE is a mishmash of religious symbols with inexplicable, very loose or even non-existent connections to the actual storyline, bundled together with a cast of some sick, seemingly sociopathic and weird characters, plus a large dose of confusing science fiction. And I'm not just deducing all this based on the fact that after much thought, research and second viewings of episodes that I still don't understand what the fuck most of what was injected into the story means as it was said : 

Because Christianity is an uncommon religion in Japan we thought it would be mysterious. None of the staff who worked on Eva are Christians. There is no actual Christian meaning to the show, we just thought the visual symbols of Christianity look cool.

"Evangelion is like a puzzle, you know. Any person can see it and give his/her own answer. In other words, we're offering viewers to think by themselves, so that each person can imagine his/her own world. We will never offer the answers, even in the theatrical version. As for any Evangelion viewers, they may expect us to provide the 'all-about Eva' manuals, but there is no such thing. Don't expect to get answers by someone. Don't expect to be catered to all the time. We all have to find our own answers."

Not that I needed to find quotes from the people that actually thought up NGE to support my opinion, but wow. "Find our own answers"?  Sounds like lecturers who come to class, don't do anything remotely relevant to the actual course they're lecturing for, and then when students complain they say that they're not into spoonfeeding.

Calling evil robots names of angels from in the Bible, including the scene of a 14 year old masterbating over an unconscious girl and having vague endings isn't "classic" to me. The Human Instrumentality Project is a bunch of artsy-fartsy bullshit that makes no sense to anyone not fond of thinking in the extreme abstract. Anno urges us to find our own answers because he himself has no answers for the very thing he created. Viewers on the other hand see NGE, not understand half of it, and thus equate this misunderstanding and vagueness to a great work of art. I appreciate the fact that the characters were complex, but who really cares? Is this a soap opera? Is it really a selling point to say that they've taken an extraordinary amount of screen time delving deep into the psyche of....animated characters? The protaganist, Shinji Ikari, is as annoying as they come. In the final episode/movie, he behaves like such an absolute pussy that it was painful to continue watching.

Its stated on Wikipedia that

"Hideaki Anno, the director of the anime series, had suffered from clinical depression prior to creating the series, and the psychological aspects of the show are based on the director's own experiences with overcoming this illness.^"

Um, I guess that meant he just injected his own crazy talk he used to mumble to himself when he was depressed or high into the dialogue after they ran out of money towards the end of the series ("There were serious budget and schedule restraints in the later episodes of the series") and needed something to "to help distinguish"  EVA from...well other anime that make sense. Interestingly, the themes of the last several episodes reflect the preceding sentence.

 All in all, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a bunch of bullshit, on a level as verbose as its title, designed to wow us into thinking it should be placed on a high pedestal over other anime as one of outstanding artistic integrity, when in fact its just an average mecha anime, thinly veiled with nonsensical messages pulled out of Psychology textbooks and Religious texts, injected with the "personal experiences" of its director, at an attempt of making it much more that it actually is.

Aerosmith es la banda que más me gusta escuchar, para mi son los mejores y por eso meditaba bien la idea de crear un video con su música pero, tome valor, pensé 20mil veces la idea, sin duda era la mejor canción para que quería hacer, marcaba unas transciones como las quería, esa era la canción y recuerdo (estaba sin ocupación en ese entonces) que tomé un día completo, COM-PLE-TO, para sacar las escenas de la película “El fin de Evangelion” y mientras buscaba las escenas que yo creí correcta escuché la canción repetidas veces para más o menos hacerme una idea de a donde iba, y el siguiente día, igual, lo tomé COM-PLE-TO, para editarlo y termine como entre 10 y 12 de la noche de un Lunes con él. Definitivamente fue un video que me senté a editarlo… por error borré la edición final y tuve que usar una de las pruebas que había sacado para completarlo, he ahí el detalle de los datos de la canción que parecen montados sobre otros.

¿El concepto?

Si viste Evangelion sabes que entre muchas cosas el debate era entre quien era la representación de Eva y quien la de Lilith, siendo Shinji Adam (puras metáforas), bueno, mi idea original era mostrar la relación de Shinji con Rei y con Asuka, buenos momentos y luego los malos para que al final quedé con la que el cree debe quedar…

Aunque estaba emocionado porque sabía a donde iba con el video la cosa al final no me resultó tan satisfactoria como quería, salvo varias escenas cuya edición me parece quedó genial, pero el concepto muchos no lo saben interpretar además de que la puse feo con las transiciones que se suponían marcaran el cambio de situación, realmente no quedé muy contento y menos con las transiciones, es más creo que todo estaría bien sin ellas pero entonces… ¿Cómo marco el paso de una situación a otra?

Por otra lado me sorprendió y cayó de muy buena forma que este haya sido uno de los videos que más le ha gustado a mi hermano… será porque el comprendió un poco más lo que quise hacer?

Shinji Ikari è un ragazzino di appena 14 anni timido e introverso, orfano di madre, che, suo malgrado, viene trasferito nella futuristica Neo Tokyo 3 per volere del padre col quale non ha quasi avuto contatti per ben 10 anni. Shinji non è a conoscenza del vero motivo della sua visita e non ha la minima idea di cosa lo attenda. Ad "aprirgli gli occhi" ci pensa Misato Katsuragi, donna combattiva e decisa alle strette dipendenze di Gendo Ikari, padre di Shinji. Sin dalle prime battute il piccolo adolescente non fa altro che seguire gli ordini della bella Misato che lo trasporta con la sua macchina da un luogo all'altro mostrandogli la città. Proprio nei primi minuti dell'anime, a sconvolgere la quiete ci pensa un'enorme creatura dall'inumano potere distruttivo. Tale creatura viene chiamata Angelo. La trama inizia subito ad infittirsi: Shinji viene trasportato dalla solita Misato presso la sede principale della Nerv, una potentissima organizzazione paramilitare dai fini misteriosi (e da qui iniziamo a dedurre che il trasferimento di Shinji non è assolutamente casuale!). A capo di essa vi è proprio Gendo, uomo freddo e cinico che non degna neanche di un sorriso il proprio figlio, appena rivisto dopo 10 anni. Al contrario a Shinji viene ordinato di sconfiggere l'umanoide gigante (l'Angelo) che sta radendo al suolo l'intera Tokyo 3. Tale impresa potrà essere affrontata dal ragazzo solo salendo a bordo di un rivoluzionario mezzo armato chiamato Eva01. Tale "robottone" è ben diverso da un semplice agglomerato di metallo e bulloni, si può dire che esso abbia una vita propria a tal punto che è l'Eva stesso a scegliere il proprio pilota!
Sin dalla prima puntata, dunque, la trama ci "assale" e cattura la nostra attenzione in maniera stupefacente. La voglia di scoprire cosa è esattamente un Angelo oppure di conoscere le vere finalità della Nerv è enorme. Hideaki (sceneggiatore e regista) ci guida in questa ricerca attraverso 26 episodi di straordinaria intensità. Praticamente in ogni episodio assistiamo all'incontro con un nuovo Angelo, dallo sconosciuto potere distruttivo (possiamo dire che i primi 14 episodi sono "autoconclusivi": compare l'Angelo di turno e a fine puntata viene annientato dai nostri prodi!), conosciamo nuovi personaggi chiave, veniamo trasportati, passo dopo passo, all'incredibile finale. Incredibile perchè saprà lasciarvi a bocca aperta, che sia di vostro gradimento o meno. Questo perchè gli ultimi 40 minuti dell'anime esprimono a pieno la filosofia Hideakiana e, se vogliamo, si discostano decisamente dagli scontri armati sopra citati e non concludono l'opera come ci aspetteremmo (lasciando più di qualche punto interrogativo a dire il vero...)! Insomma Neon Genesis Evangelion (NGE d'ora in poi) è un vero e proprio viaggio! Il tutto è condito da scene d'azione, tra le più belle mai viste in un anime (e parliamo di una produzione del ’95) e da una colonna sonora semplicemente perfetta, ma di questo si parlerà meglio in seguito, quindi procediamo con ordine.

Character & Psychologist Designer:

Sotto questo punto di vista NGE eccelle! Il protagonista dell’opera, l’introverso Shinji Ikari, non rispecchia la figura dell’eroe tradizionale. Sin dal primo episodio dell'anime ci rendiamo conto che il giovane figlio di Gendo Ikari non è altro che un comune quattordicenne alle prese con i soliti problemi adolescenziali, nulla di più. Shinji, infatti, non è più intelligente o più coraggioso degli altri ragazzini della sua età. Il suo modo di pensare e agire è il più realistico possibile e quindi mostrerà le stesse paure e gli stessi timori di tutti gli altri. Insomma la grandezza del giovane pilota di Eva e la sua "diversità" rispetto agli altri protagonisti di anime risiede paradossalmente proprio nel suo essere "normale", "comune"! Hideaki confeziona un vero e proprio "antieroe" e lo fà crescere nei 26 episodi del suo capolavoro designandolo come unico e vero protagonista. Quest'ultimo si trova ad affrontare situazioni estreme, a competere con nemici ben più determinati e forti di lui. Deve, quindi, crescere in fretta, evolversi! L'introspezione psicologica all'interno di NGE la fa da padrona, permea ogni aspetto dell'anime e innzalza la caratterizzazione dei personaggi a livelli astronomici. Oltre alle scene d'azione e ai vari combattimenti assisteremo, dunque, a vere e proprie scene allucinogene, alla David Lynch, con relative didascalie a tutto schermo dai significati oscuri o quantomeno ambigui. Inoltre saranno numerosissimi i flashback riguardanti i nostri protagonisti che pian piano ci sveleranno il loro misterioso e sempre travagliato passato. Uno sforzo produttivo assolutamente fuori misura che consente a NGE di essere considerato di diritto un capolavoro assoluto!
Un altro paragrafo va necessariamente speso sulla caratterizzazione dei personaggi a livello puramente estetico: qui, come in pochi altri anime, i personaggi, tutti, non indossano una "divisa" ma cambiano abiti in ogni episodio, mantenendo sempre il loro "stile". Shinji ad esempio indosserà prevalentemente camice semplici e monocromatiche e pantaloni stretti, Asuka al contrario farà girare la testa ai suoi coetanei con minigonne provocanti e magliette attillate! Per concludere in bellezza come non dedicare qualche parola alle unità Eva: queste sono semplicemente magnifiche, caratterizzate in ogni loro minimo dettaglio; ogni loro accessorio, partendo dal comune pugnale (ovviamente dalle dimensioni esagerate, proporzionato alla grandezza dell'Eva) per arrivare al devastante e preciso fucile da cecchino, è curato in maniera maniacale.

Direzione Artistica & Animazioni:

Il giudizio alla voce "Grafica e Animazioni", forse, non sarà in linea con i restanti giudizi. Questa carenza, se così vogliamo chiamarla, è dovuta a motivazioni strettamente economiche. L'anime, infatti, a livello grafico è straordinario e ancora oggi mostra i muscoli con sequenze d'azione sbalorditive e incredibilmente fluide e ben congeniate, ma anche con uno stile unico e senza eguali. Il guaio è che tale bontà estetica non viene mantenuta agli stessi livelli per tutta la lunghezza dell'anime. Ragioni economiche dicevamo, e sono proprio queste che hanno spinto i produttori a "riciclare" le stesse animazioni più e più volte, o ad occupare grandi spazi di episodio con sequenze ripetute. Ma, tolto questo neo, quello che rimane è pura gioia visiva: le animazioni presenti in NGE sono favolose, trasmettono, quando si tratta di Angeli ed Eva, un incredibile senso di devastazione e potenza. Particolare e incredibilmente soddisfacente è l'animazione tramite la quale l'Angelo di turno rigenera un proprio arto appena perso in battaglia: attorno alla parte appena colpita si creeranno delle bolle in rapida successione che man mano aumenteranno di volume fino a far spuntar fuori un arto nuovo di zecca che prenderà il posto di quello appena amputato! Lasciano il segno anche le espressioni facciali che i protagonisti sono in grado di manifestare: da una semplice occhiata potremo dedurre lo stato d'animo di Shinji e compagni. Peccato che a tanta grandezza a livello di animazioni non corrisponda un'altrettanta cura dei "fondali" a volte poco ispirati e ripetitivi. Una delizia insomma, minata, in parte, da quei fastidiosi problemi economici descritti poco più su.

Sonorizzazione: Colonna Sonora e BGM

E finalmente scriviamo di questa tanto decantata colonna sonora! Superba, la più bella che possiate ascoltare, non in un anime, ma in una qualsiasi produzione che ne abbia una! Si parte dalla sigla d’apertura, sempre la stessa nel corso dell’anime: Zankoku na Tenshi no these. Vi rimarrà impressa nella mente per tutta la durata del “viaggio”, la canticchierete davanti ai vostri amici, griderete davanti allo schermo pervasi da un’energia misteriosa (si…io l’ho fatto.. -.-)! Insomma l’autore Yoko Takahashi è riuscito a confezionare una canzone immortale, vero e proprio simbolo dell’anime. Ogni episodio si chiude poi con “Fly me to the Moon”, successo pop del 1954 di F. Sinatra cantato in ben 20 diverse versioni. Questo vi dà un’idea della cura maniacale riposta nella colonna sonora. Continuare ad elencare i vari titoli di quest’ultima sarebbe una fatica immane. I brani sono tantissimi e tutti assolutamente indimenticabili e originali! Ogni personaggio principale ha il suo “Tema”, ogni battaglia è scandita a suon di note musicali di pregio eccelso! Insomma NGE contiene al suo interno una ricchezza musicale senza eguali.
Sul fronte doppiaggio ottime notizie: quello italiano è di altissimo livello e conta doppiatori egregi quali Ilaria Latini (voce di Asuka) e Stella Musy (voce di Misato). Tanto per intenderci la prima ha doppiato Joey in Dawson’s Creek (lo avete visto per forza, almeno una volta :p) e la seconda dà la voce a Liv Tyler (Arwen) ne “Il Signore degli Anelli”. Inoltre la recitazione di tutti gli attori è convincente. Ad esempio il doppiaggio di Shinji rispecchia quello giapponese che lo vuole timido e insicuro, Asuka invece sarà più decisa e determinata, Rei avrà un tono pacato e misterioso.

To everyone who loves Evangelion, this superb Gainax production is set to release the 2nd movie part of it's tetralogy on January 2008. The first movie part, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, was released last September 2007 in Japan and as expected, it went straight up to No.1. The first three movies are said to be newer and better versions of the anime series but the fourth movie will hold a new conclusion for this story.

To those who are not familiar with Neon Genesis Evangelion (Shin Seiki Evangelion), go here first.

From what you can observe from the trailer, the images are way better, sharper and the CGs are now grander than what they have been. There are minor revisions to the sequence of events in the movie, but that doesn't make it any less brilliant than the enigmatic series.

The Rebuild of Evangelion Project has been widely anticipated by fans and after 12 years of waiting, Hideaki Anno delivered his promise well. The thing that I love about this series is how it schemes about the end of the world and how we, mere mortals, are trapped in it because of our own doing. Can you imagine being attacked by 'angels' that look like demons? The line between good and evil is reduced to almost non-existence, the notion of right vs. wrong is twisted and over-thinking is a prerequisite to enjoy this series. The story, the characters and their struggles are a classic and it gives you so much room for imagination and internalization.

Another thing that I love about this series is how an underdog, Shinji Ikari, is expected to overcome his personal demons and save the world. You could identify with the characters so well it makes you feel as if the series is reading right through your head. Some don't really like the way the series delves into way too much of religion and gore but for me, I think the series is a genius when it came to connecting all that with human nature and realism. If you think about it, Evangelion presents an eerie future that could potentially happen lest we behave like Gendou and his minions. The power of science is too much that it pushed humans to become sinful, enough for 'angels' to attack us.

I've been wanting to see this movie for the past two months but seeing as the producers hadn't set dates for it's international release, I would have to wait and be patient longer than I could. The dvd set that I have for this series includes it's first 2 movies but watching these over and over again doesn't help ease the torture of waiting.

Let it be known that Neon Genesis Evangelion is my favorite anime series of all time. I am of the camp that feels that it is something that should never be touched again, never be tampered with, never be continued and absolutely never be remade. So when I heard that it was being "re-imagined"(which is another way of saying "remade") with the title "Rebuild of Evangelion", I was fucking steaming. Like steam coming out of both ears just like in the cartoons STEAMING. When I saw that it was being put out by Gainax, it eased the blow a bit. When I found out that Hideaki Anno was involved in it as well and was actually the one spearheading it, that made me accept it. When I finally saw the trailer for it, I completely changed my mind on the whole thing and now am totally on board. I went from trying to sabotage the band wagon, to demand on being the one driving it.

It's finally a reality, yet so unbelievable that we had to watch it three times to make sure what we were seeing was, in fact, reality. Gainax has finally released footage from the first part of it's so-called Rebuild of Evangelion movie series, entitled Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone. That aside, perhaps the thing that will strike diehard Eva fans the most is how little everything seems to have changed. Oh sure, the Angels and Evas have recieved slight tweaks to their original designs and Shinji's feminine features seem to have had some testosterone injected into them, but just check out these comparison screens. TV version on the left and Rebuild version on the right.

For those interested, a somewhat rough translation of the synopsis from the site Oricon Style (delivered by yours truly) along with my own observations and speculations, is included beneath the cut.

"Neon Genesis Evangelion” is the unprecedented sci-fi anime spectacular!

Through the struggle between the girl who pilots the giant humanoid war machine and the mysterious “Angels,” people's hearts, people's relations to each other and even the foundation of people's origin threaten to unravel, forming a story of the largest scale in human history!

Answering to the demands of a new era, a new story has been prepared for a new audience. The title for this four-work is also “Evangelion New Theatrical Edition.” (It should be noted that the katakana is slightly different for this incarnation.)

The first part is to be entitled “Jo.” [Prelude]

The middle part is to be entitled “Ha.” [Breaking Up]
And lastly, the follow-up “Kyu” [Rush] and the conclusion, “?” will form the last two parts according to plans.

“Jo,” being an introduction, will comprise many of the same scenes as the original at the start.

Nevertheless, midway through that Eva characteristic of feeling “I don't quite understand where I'm being led to” will come roaring back.

The familiar story will be transformed and, before long, everywhere will become embedded with that rebuilt omen.

The melodramatic pap of Oricon's synopsis aside, there are certainly elements being hinted at through this trailer that show that this won't be the same song-and-dance. For one thing, unlike the original Evangelion series, it appears that director Hideaki Anno learned to smile a little more.

For evidence of that hint, one need look no further than the film's English title: "You Are (Not) Alone." Compare this with original TV series' poetic pessimism with titles such as "Love is Destructive" and "The Phone That Never Rings." In a sense, the film's title expresses an interest in going beyond the mere alienation that so much of Eva's tormented cast often experienced but actually go into how people actually manage to connect to each other.

At least, I really hope so, given that so much of Anno's work after Eva - KareKano, the criminally overlooked live-action film Love & Pop - dealt with such issues it'd only be the most appropriate and poetic thing to go back to his most defining work and give it the same humanistic touch.

This anime goes by many names such as Top wo Nerae! (Aim for the Top!), Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster (Aim for the Top! Gunbuster), or just Gunbuster. I’ll stick with Gunbuster.

Gunbuster is Hideaki Anno’s first work as a director, and for that reason alone it deserves a special spot in anime history. Anno is best known around the world for directing Neon Genesis Evangelion, but his work in Gunbuster is at least equally as transcending. In many ways I’m willing to argue that Gunbuster is even more compelling than Neon Genesis Evangelion. Something interesting to note is t hat Gunbuster was the first anime to feature animated bouncing breasts, so you can thank Anno for that!

A good way to describe Gunbuster is to just say it’s about the largest mecha in anime history and their pilots beating the crap out of huge space monsters that want to destroy the human race. The space monsters attack in impressive numbers so humanity has to literally destroy them by the billions at a time. This, albeit an accurate description, isn’t quite enough to fully convey what you will get out of watching Gunbuster. It is truly an escapade into a time where we have to decide how we’re going to save ourselves from the greatest threat ever imagined.

The anime stars Takaya Noriko, a young girl studying at a Space Pilot High School for girls in Okinawa, Japan. She enrolled in that particular school with the goal to become a space pilot. Her father, Takaya Yuzo, was an admiral commanding the Luxion, a ship that was destroyed early on in the war against space monsters. A few crew members survived the attack but unfortunately Noriko’s father went down with the ship. Noriko had dreamed to become a space pilot long before this incident, and when she heard of her father’s death it was hard for her. She was only 10 at the time when she got the news, but now she’s 17 and once again is determined to become a space pilot.

While training she finds out she has a lot of problems piloting the RX-7 Machine Weapon, which is the standard mass-produced mecha used to fight the alien drones. Many of her schoolmates tease her for her lack of skill and exceedingly joke that if she is ever promoted to a pilot it’s due to her late father’s position. All of these events eventually trigger her encounter with Amano Kazumi, the top student at the school and the most likely candidate to become a space pilot. Kazumi gives Noriko a few words of encouragement which help Noriko boost her spirit and advance towards her goal. This scenario introduces the much bigger drama of the story following alongside Noriko and Kazumi as they strive with personal matters and the responsibility of protecting humanity.

Although Gunbuster is quite old, it has aged almost too well and rivals many of the anime I’ve seen come out in recent years. The first episode is merely an introduction to a much larger and engrossing plot, so don’t let it become a barrier when approaching the show. Once you get passed the school setting you will see how much deeper the story becomes.

The characters are all convey feelings deep inner thoughts in a very convincing way, and if you’ve seen Neon Genesis Evangelion you will start to see similarities between the characters of both series. Gunbuster is a tad realistic and contains a lot of space-age jargon that won’t quite make sense to you unless you’ve been exposed to sci-fi stories with complicated physics and the like. The characters in the anime will experience time dilation, which means time slows down for those who travel at sub-light speed. This becomes a core element in the drama and it's presented in such a very realistic and gritty fashion that I was amazed. It really makes you doubt that Gunbuster was made in 1988.

The technology in the show is incredible, especially when you consider the small scope of its proposed time-frame. In Gunbuster, the Luxion is one of the earliest ships known to be capable of warp-speed space travel, and its intended purpose was to explore the outer reaches of the Milky Way. According to the anime, the construction of the Luxion begins in 2006 and is completed by 2013. This entails that the jump in technology from 1988 to 2006 is huge and far different from reality. Anno did not have the luxury of knowing exactly when such a leap in technology would make sense way back in 1988. Even today we’re far away from most sci-fi dreams and we can’t warp across the galaxy. He did, however, have the luxury of dealing with a fiction story and having little repercussions whether or not he was even close to being accurate. It’s been at least 18 years since the first release of Gunbuster, so many of the people (including myself) who watch Gunbuster today will consider it more of an alternate reality than a far look into the future. This means we lose the veil of mystery that makes us ponder off into a far future if we consider the hard facts the anime is based on. We are now living in part of the time-frame of the story, so it can feel a little distracting. However, everything else about the show far surpasses this small setback. It hardly takes you completely out of the experience, but there’s no denying Gunbuster should have been much more effective back in 1988.

The enemies in Gunbuster are called space monsters and without giving too much away they are giant insect-like beings that roam the universe killing all life. They search and destroy any sentient beings they find. They are also referred to as the “anti-bodies” of the galaxy. All things considered, they truly are humanity’s greatest threat and aiding them is their tendency to attack in giant swarms that number in the billions of units. This creates situations where animated mecha combat can really shine since there’s explosions and dodging maneuvers non-stop, units calling out for support, and the inevitable loss of human lives. All of this creates a lot of tension in the fighting, but the powerful mecha drive a sense of excitement since you’ll always want to know what’s going to happen next.

The musical score is quite dated, so it probably won’t be as effective as it would of been in the 80’s. It consists mostly of horns and drums of differing pace depending on the situation and they’re used quite often to introduce the next big thing to appear on the screen. It’s literally how you know something is going to die. While this quickly becomes a predictable pattern, it’s still quite effective. When you hear drums you'll get excited and not necessarily prone to be disappointed as it is always something amazing that happens. Gunbuster is all about kicking alien ass and the classic music works in driving anticipation of the action.

The end of the anime is spectacular to say the least. If you decide to stick with the show long enough to see it, trust me, you will enjoy it. It’s truly a touching moment and for anyone who enjoyed it back in the 80’s I’m willing to agree it’s a timeless moment and a definite classic in anime. For those worried, it’s completely different from Anno’s more famous attempt at ending a story with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Contrary to Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gunbuster ends well -- you will be satisfied.
