A podpalająca okazjonalnie amerykańska ikona - Homer Simpson ...

Rada: Vote for yourself!

The celebrities listed below this introduction were chosen because they have either been recently

The celebrities listed below this introduction were chosen because they have either been recently in the news or were run across in my non-scientific Internet search. A short explanation is given about some of their comments or actions in favor of Obama but please take it with a large grain of salt as it is in no way complete. In case someone asks, of course there are a small number of stars that support the John McCain / Sarah Palin ticket like Sylvester Stallone, John Voight, Ted Nugent and Charlie Daniels.

It is no secret that most Hollywood and music stars are liberals and have become a reliable source of campaign cash for Democratic candidates. So far according to the Center for Responsive Politics the music and entertainment industry has given over $ 5.6 million to the Obama presidential effort and donated $ 3.4 million to the Hillary Clinton campaign. How did John McCain fare you ask? His campaign has received $ 885,000, total.

Not included are many rap and hip-hop stars like 50 Cent, Chamillionare, Scarface, etc., because around 95% of their community supports Obama’s candidacy. To list them all would take forever. They support Obama by using clothes with Obama’s image on them on stage, by putting up Obama or Obama/Biden banners at their concerts, etc. Almost all speak favorably of the candidate and hope the more outspoken members of their community tone down their support for fear of alienating voters that do not understand what their music is about. Some artists have said they support and will vote for Obama because he is one of them. Others say he is the most qualified for the job with race having nothing to do with their decision. To say that they are excited about this election is an understatement!

Below the stars, more or less in alphabetical order, listed by their last name. Looking for Oprah? She’s under W for Winfrey. How about Jay-Z? He’s under C for Shawn Carter. Homer Simpson? Try S for Homer Simpson. Yes, even Homer tries to vote for Obama.

Enjoy. Or not.

In July 2008 the Obama campaign has distanced themselves from Ludacris because of his song “Politics: Obama is Here” that contains some controversial material the campaign said was outrageously offensive, something akin to: President Bush is mentally handicapped, Vice President Cheney belongs in a wheel chair paralyzed, an Obama presidency is destiny, criticized Reverend Jessie Jackson, and called Hillary Clinton a b***h.

Browne has been a liberal all his life and thought that if his music was used in Republican ads the public might think he endorses McCain. Since 2004 he has contributed at least $ 4,300 to Obama’s coffers. After the lawsuit was filed the ORp pulled the ad. Browne is asking for around $75,000 in damages. April 2008 after the ABC debate with Hillary Clinton, in a speech a few days later, Obama used the the motion of brushing dirt off his shoulder to make a point. Most people outside of the hip-hop community missed the significance of the gesture but it quickly became controversial. In a mater of days after the controversy that a presidential candidate for the first time ever used hip-hop inspired gestures during a speech had reached a crescendo, it was learned that the gesture could be related to a song by Jay-Z called “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”.
Oprah Winfrey: On September 5, 2008 the Drudge Report said that the show is receiving a lot of emails asking that Sarah Palin be on. Half of the staff really wants Palin to appear but that Oprah and a couple of her people do not because it might hurt Obama. In 2007 continues the Drudge Report, conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was not allowed to go on when he was promoting his book. Later on September 5, 2008 Oprah stated to TMZ that she would love to have Palin on, after the election, as the staff had not discussed the Palin appearance and she had made the decision not have her show become a platform for candidates. Oprah has said about Obama: That would be my favorite guy, ….I know him well enough to believe in his moral authority. And that is the number one reason why I am supporting him, ..my Senator, my favorite Senator, and my choice. He appeared twice on Oprah, in January 2005 and October 2006, before she gave him her formal endorsement. On September 25, 2006 Oprah, on Larry King Live, said she hoped Obama ran for President. May 2007 Oprah formally endorses Obama for President. September 8, 2007 Oprah hosted an Obama fundraiser for 1,500 guests, each one donating $ 2,300 to his campaign. From November 2007 to February 2008 Oprah campaigned with Obama in Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire and in California. Many opine it was Oprah that introduced Obama to white American women and because of her active support suffered a huge backlash that continues to these days. August 2008 she was at the DNC in Denver praising Obama’s acceptance speech. September 2008 two University of Maryland economists say Oprah’s endorsement has given Obama approximately 1 million votes he would not have gotten otherwise. September 2008 she asked her viewers to support Senate bill 1738 proposed by Senator Joe Biden and endorsed by Senator Barack Obama. September 2008 Oprah again said her staff had not brought up having Sarah Palin on her show but would like to have her on after the election. She has donated at least $ 2,300 to the Obama campaign.

Steve Wonder: September 8, 2007 he performed at the fundraiser Oprah Winfrey hosted for Obama. August 28, 2008 he sang the song “Signed Sealed Delivered” at the DNC in Denver. September 22, 2008 his song "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" forms part of the album "Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement" the Obama/Biden campaign is selling over the Internet for $ 24.99.

Joanne Woodward: Has donated the maximum, $ 4,600, to the Obama campaign.

Sarah Wright: February 2, 2008 she appears on the video ”Yes We Can” inspired by a speech given by Obama in New Hampshire.

Malik Yusef: September 22, 2008 his colaborative song with Kanye West and Adam Levine "Promised Land" forms part of the album "Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement" the Obama/Biden campaign is selling over the Internet for $ 24.99.

OK, so here's an e-mail exchange I inadvertently got involved with yesterday. Tell me if you think I did the right thing.

A good friend of mine, a liberal like myself, sent me and several other people the following image via e-mail:

(I should mention that she has been married for fifteen years to a Republican. He has friends. Sometimes my girlfriend likes to goad them.)

Anyway. Funny, in a passing way. I paid virtually no attention.

A little later I, and everyone else on the original list, got the following response:

I love it!! It bothers all you Libs that the Republicans have a strong, aggressive, qualified woman to go on their ticket. Yes, Palin made it and Hillary didn't, get over it!! It is also so typical of your party to continue to belittle her even after she has proven she is very capable. OK, so she is being compared to Homer Simpson, what about your Curious George looking Presidential candidate who is a straight Socialist and wants to take from those who have succeeded to give to those who have no interest in bettering themselves and just suck off the system. Wow, now that is logic. That is about as unAmerican as anything I have ever seen and you want him to lead. Pathetic and you might want to rethink what you are doing. I know it is the California thing to do, but for the good of your childrens future, you might want to actually research your candidate.

Yikes! Almost immediately one of the other girls on the list fired back with this:

In the future, please refrain from hitting reply all with this type of commentary which frankly I find incredibly ignorant and offensive.
If in the future you wish to share your opinion or viewpoint, please respect the privacy and views of others and direct reply only.
Thank you.

At which point I, indignant, possibly fired up by hormones, and certainly fuelled by the great joy I find in raising the flame on incipient dramas, added the following:

I don't know you, and therefore am not sure why I was made privy to your very personal response, but I would have to second the previous request that you not "reply all" when sending offensive e-mails. I might add the friendly suggestion that when writing explicitly racist content, (Obama as a monkey, um...aren't you embarrassed to say that kind of thing out loud?) you consider not subsequently sending that content out to a good-sized group of people you don't know. You never know who is on the receiving end.

And to anticipate your response, comparing Palin to a Simpson character, the latter of whom has no negative, historically laden racial or ethnographic stereotypes associated with him, is not the same thing.

I, for one, have no interest in trying to disabuse someone like you of your undoubtedly long-held and precious beliefs. Oughtn't those you disagree with receive the same courtesy?

I then took Mina for a walk in Elysian. About halfway through the walk, which was perfectly lovely -- ideal temperature, filtered sunlight, good stick for throwing -- I suddenly got it in my head that I had behaved utterly inappropriately. What if the guy I'd sent the e-mail to took enormous offense at being called a racist in front of twenty other people, including my friend and her husband? What if he took my name from my e-mail address and looked me up? What if he came to my house? In an alternative paranoid fantasy, my girlfriend called me on the phone and told me she could no longer be my friend, as I had behaved impetuously and cruelly towards her dear...I don't know, nephew? Brother? I had, after all, no clue who the guy in question was. Maybe he was her father! Jesus. Why can I not just learn to shut my mouth? Or in this case, my fingers. Who needed me inserting my opinion, anyway? And in such a highhanded fashion! Talk about self-righteousness! At the very least I should've just replied to him, not everyone. In so doing I had basically stooped to his level. And grandstanded. I'm such an idiot.

And the self-flagellation continued, effectively ruining what should have been a nice walk. Mina, knowing I was distracted, eventually gave up on trying to get my attention, and satisfied herself with running through every mud puddle she could find, as she continued her lifetime quest to become the filthiest dog on the North American continent.

I returned home and checked my cell phone messages apprehensively. Nothing. Then my e-mail. I found this from the girl who'd sent the original response to the asshole guy (by now I am referring to him as "Curious George" in my head) :

Nice work, Sister.

Holla.

xo

This made me feel better. A little later, my friend, the one who'd sent out the original cartoon, added the following:

Sorry all that my used to be friend offended all. He's been sending me all this awful Obama stuff that I delete and so I sent out this joke about Palin. I should be above making fun of her but I'm not, I can't stand her. Please forgive me for having your email addresses on here, I'll never do that again.
I'm sorry that I can't defend G----- either, he's an ignorant Southern republican man.

Whoo! I still had my friend! Another paranoid fantasy disproven! But still no word back from Curious George himself. Hmmm....was he just going to disappear without a murmur? But then, later that night, the following appeared in my in-box:

How terrible to actually listen to other views.
By the way, if you want to learn more about your candidate, watch Hannity's America on Sunday night. They are doing an in depth history of Obama's rise to power. You might find it interesting.

And that was all he had.

Mike has asked me for his e-mail address. I think our little monkey better go hide in a tree...

But this is the kind of person we're up against. Should I have said more? Less? Should I keep corresponding with him? Is there any point at all? When I encounter this kind of ignorance, prejudice, and intolerance it just makes me feel hopeless. How can you even argue with it? It just seems so...blind.

This election is driving us all bananas.

In honor of Homer voting for Obama (I'm so proud of you, Homie) I thought I'd post Nick Walker's ode to Marge. Gotta love Mrs. Simpson! Marge is Homer's better (far superior) half. I love this piece. Though maybe not as much as I love Moona Lisa, which brought in a surprising six figures at a recent Bonham's Auction. Moona involves bare booty and I do love the booty. Walker's Marge is a wondrous thing. Wouldn't it look killer cool in one of those all-white modern pads filled with Lucite tables and bubble chairs, hung on a clean wall in lieu of a plasma TV? A sharp rectangular sofa piled with a pyramid of blue circle pillows; they'd never be out of place 'cause who'd dare to sit there? That'd be amazing in a magazine but that would never be me. I love candy pink, dandelion yellow, sea-monster green & glittery violet. I'm too messy to ever be minimal, which is for the best since I can't afford a mid-century modern furniture habit. Lately, I love TV too much to ever give it the boot. So if you like minimal, there's a free interior design tip. Just thought you'd enjoy a little Friday night art-peek, a small rest from the political ballyhoo. And now for a little of that TV I've grown so fond of...

We love you, Marge!

We never doubted your vote.

We always knew you weren't a racist idiot.

[caption id="attachment_291" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Marge isn't falling for your chirpy you-bethcha's, lady."][/caption]

Last night in the vice presidential debate with Joe Biden, Sarah Palin said her biggest weaknesses w

Last night in the vice presidential debate with Joe Biden, Sarah Palin said her biggest weaknesses were in experience, and sharing a world view with John McCain. Well, at least she got something right.

IFILL: Let's talk conventional wisdom for a moment. The conventional wisdom, Governor Palin with you, is that your Achilles heel is that you lack experience. Your conventional wisdom against you is that your Achilles heel is that you lack discipline, Senator Biden. What is it really for you, Governor Palin? What is it really for you, Senator Biden? Start with you, governor.
PALIN: My experience as an executive will be put to good use as a mayor and business owner and oil and gas regulator and then as governor of a huge state, a huge energy producing state that is accounting for much progress towards getting our nation energy independence and that's extremely important.
But it wasn't just that experience tapped into, it was my connection to the heartland of America. Being a mom, one very concerned about a son in the war, about a special needs child, about kids heading off to college, how are we going to pay those tuition bills? About times and Todd and our marriage in our past where we didn't have health insurance and we know what other Americans are going through as they sit around the kitchen table and try to figure out how are they going to pay out-of-pocket for health care? We've been there also so that connection was important.
But even more important is that world view that I share with John McCain. That world view that says that America is a nation of exceptionalism. And we are to be that shining city on a hill, as President Reagan so beautifully said, that we are a beacon of hope and that we are unapologetic here. We are not perfect as a nation. But together, we represent a perfect ideal. And that is democracy and tolerance and freedom and equal rights. Those things that we stand for that can be put to good use as a force for good in this world.
John McCain and I share that. You combine all that with being a team with the only track record of making a really, a difference in where we've been and reforming, that's a good team, it's a good ticket."

With so many questions she didn't actually answer at this debate, I guess it is out of bounds to assume she could come up with a decent answer to this question.

Homer? He's the original Joe Six Pack isn't he?
