For those of you who are more electronically inclined, I have made the course calendar available as a public Gmail calendar. You may sync this calendar to your own calendars on your computer, or phone, or whatever other device you might have set up to share calendars.

I will provide instructions on how you may set this calendar up in Gmail after the jump.

http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/m3hgkuka7nn34s8gjeg5jtjlh0%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic

1. Copy and Paste the above, rather lengthy, url to your clipboard.

2. Sign into your Gmail account and access your Google calendar.

3. Locate the "Other Calendars" widget on the left sidebar of GCal, and click Add, followed by "Add by URL." (see the screenshot to the right)

4. In the screen that follows, paste the above URL (from step 1) into the "Public Calendar Address" field.

5. Hit Add.

6. You're done.

-----

With a little bit of googling, most of you with Blackberries, iPhones, or some other type of smart phone should be able to sync this calendar up to your own very easily.

Here is the iCal address also :

http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=es&answer=60763

Con esto tenemos sincronizados, iPhone, iPod Touch, Mac, Pc y los servicios de Google.com. En cualquiera de los anteriores donde se realice un cambio modificará al resto de forma automática.

So you have a Mac, but you don't have an iPhone, and you want to have your iCal events on your Verizon Wireless phone.
This is indeed very possible, I do recommend that you have a text messaging on your Verizon Wireless plan.
For this tutorial you will not need your phone at all, well, you'll need to know your phone number.
1. Launch the application address book.
2. Once in Address Book navigate to “Your Card.” (Go to Card in the Menu bar then select “Go to My Card.”)
3. Once your card is selected choose “Edit.”
4. You may need to add another email section to your card, if so click on the green plus sign to the left of where your email goes.
4. When another field pops up you are going to enter your phone number + @vtext.com (ex: 1234567890@vtext.com).
5. Launch iCal and enter your event as usual.
6. Where it says “Alarm” select email. When you select email, you will have a drop down list available where you can then select “your number@vtext.com," then choose when you would like to receive the alarm (if you are running Leopard you will have to drag that email address from Address Book to that area). I usually recommend an hour before, pending on the event.
That's it, now your iCal event alarms will sent directly to your phone as a text message. As you might have figured you can use “your number@vtext.com” as a valid email address, that will come directly to you as a text message.
Alright, I guess I will be nice, here is the phone email addresses for T-Mobile and Sprint:
T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net
Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com

The LG enV(2), also known as the VX9100, is a decent little phone that has a lot more power then Verizon Wireless claims. For some time I went bugging Verizon Wireless stores on how to do something on my phone. Every time I got the same basic reply, "sorry, your phone doesn't do that. You would want this phone (something more expensive)." Obviously these people don't know there own product or they make commision, but that's besides the point.

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to send someone's contact information and calendar event from your enV(2) over to your Mac.

To be on the safe side, I am going to assume that you do not know how to set up your bluetooth device. If you have already done you may find it helpful to jump down a little further.

Setting up your Bluetooth device:
1. Go into your "Settings & Tools" on your phone, then choose option number 3, Bluetooth Menu.
2. Select "Add Device," and turn on Bluetooth.
3. From there it will say "Place device you are con necting to in discoverable mode."
4. Now go to your Mac, in the Menu bar will be the Bluetooth symbol and select "Discoverable."

[caption id="attachment_11" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption=""][/caption]

5. Go back to your phone and select "Ok"
6. Now that your phone has found your co mputer select "Pair" on your phone and enter a random password.
7. On your Mac a pop-up menu will appear asking for a "Pass Key," this is the same pass key you just set up. Click "Pair" on your Mac.

8. On your phone it will ask "Always Connect or Always Ask," select what you wish.
9. On your phone you will now see your computer. Select your computer.
Sending your info via Bluetooth:
10. Now you will have options like Send Name Card, Get Name Card, Exchange Name Card, Send Calendar Event and Send Picture.
11. For example select Send Name Card. This gives you access to your phone's address book.
12. Select who you want or select "Options," which will let you mark all.
13. When you are done select "Done" on your phone.
14. On your Mac a pop-up window will appear, choose Select.

15. Go to your "Documents" and your will see a the name card you sent already in the vCard format. Open it.
Note: Sending a Calendar Event is the same process, and yes, your enV(2) will send it over in the correct iCal format.

I just spent twenty minutes trying to remember how to log into the blog! This is what happens when you become dependent on Firefox to remember your browsing history for you.

My brain is too young to be forgetting things so easily. In five seconds, literally, I had forgotten why I was on Facebook. It doesn't help that there are a million interesting facts in my mini feed to distract me, either.

Most of the time, my early-onset senility is covered by the fact that I have bunches of electronic devices to remember my things for me. My Google calendar is synced with my iCal and my Plaxo calendar and my cell phone. I have five To-Do lists in my planner, and I carry around a second copy of my entire phone book just in case.

Do not let this fool you- I do have a problem. I can barely remember the conversation I had five minutes ago, let alone what I ate for breakfast this morning, and you can forget about anything that happened yesterday. Or I can forget about it. Either way.

This does become a tad irritating when it comes to organizing things that have deadlines. Things like papers. And projects. And bills. Oh maybe that's why there's no gas...

If you're like me, you just want shortcuts for *everything*! Well I was just messing around with adding the ACT test date to my calendar when I found out a semi-useful tip.

The way to switch months is with the arrows near the top, but doing so is so...cumbersome. I don't like having to resort to menus for navigation.

So, to switch months just click on a day belonging to the next month. I always use the top left and bottom right dates of any month because those will always belong to a previous/subsequent month.

Well the 2008 Audi Hamilton island Race week is nearly upon us, I will be covering the event photographically and posting images daily along with a rant or two of the happenings on each day.

So I have been planning my event coverage strategy within iCal, after all I am visual person. I figured after entering all this data, I hope no else has to, or would really want to or need to for that matter, unless of course you're a geek with an iPhone and need to know what's happening all the time...

So for your convenience I have listed 3 calenders (ics files) that you can subscribe to for all the events both on and off the water. They are listed separately so you can keep them colour co-ordinated, or you can get them all in one with this calender.

I find that I use my iPod Touch as a music/video player only incidentally. With the wireless option and the app store my iPod Touch is more of a PDA/game machine. I carry it around the house and now use my laptop for other things ( editing photos and video, etc. ). At work, we now have a wireless guest network setup ( separate from the corporate LAN ) and when I am near a conference room or sitting neat the cafe I can connect and update my iPod. I have a few video and audio podcast that I follow.

I signed on for MobileMe (formerly .Mac ) for one year. I was hoping to see the value but ... I think now I realize that it's useful for my mom or grandma. With the Google Redesigned extension for Firefox, Google Calendar and Gmail are better looking than MobileMe ( in my opinion ). With JungleDisk and Amazon S3 I get the same thing as iDisk ( for a lot less ). And with Plaxo ( Google Calendar now has CalDAV support ) , I can sync my Mac Address Book and iCal between Google and my Mac ( for free ).

Since the dawn of time, but also quite recently, I have been looking for a decent to-do list manager

Since the dawn of time, but also quite recently, I have been looking for a decent to-do list manager. This is how it used to work:

While I'm out all day, I keep a list of things that I need to do, remember, or think about on a scrap of paper. When I get home, I action all the ones I can and cross them off the list, then transfer the rest to a master list in a giant notebook.

This involves pen and paper, and lots of it. I've been looking for online alternatives, and I've checked out all the usual ones - Ta Da List, Remember the Milk, etc, etc.

The problem is, I want reminders as well. On certain days I want to do particular things, it helps me get things done when I have a routine - you can tell from the lack of updates to this blog. I tried using iCal, and it's really snazzy, but it doesn't quite grab me.

I spent a while trying to make it work for me and I've figured out what the difference is. On paper, I cross the things off my list, and move them forward to the up to date list when they are still current, and that's what I want from my calendar.

A daily list, where I tick off what I've done, and if it doesn't get ticked, it moves forward to the next day, where it adds itself to whatever I have stored to be done that day.

I'm not even sure this makes sense, which doesn't help me trying to find what I'm looking for. At the moment, I'm making the best use I can of Ta Da List and iCal, and trying to sort out what will actually make my life easier.

Mike Gunderloy is a Rails developer located near me in southern Indiana. Here is his blog and his post on what he uses to get the job done.

Mike Gunderloy was a former Microsoft developer who like me got fed up with their business practices and converted to an open source developer. Go to Mike before anyone else for your Rails needs.

As for me the machine and software I utilize (like anyone care) are as follows:

iMac: August 2007, Mac OS X 10.5.4, 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, This is a bare bones system, no frills but it makes me happy. It is my first and only Macintosh

Macintosh Software:

Safari: In my eyes all the other browsers fail in comparison. Firefox 3 still feels slower than Safari 3. Opera is very nice and my second browser if Safari somehow fails me. Opera just feels weird tho. All the other web browsers either fail to be a fast browser or they are just ugly and not "Mac-like" enough. Safari is by Apple and if free for Mac OS X 10.4+ and Windows XP+ users.

Mail: Not the best email client in the world, but it's solid. I use it as my RSS reader too.

Address Book and iCal: Keep me and my life organized.

iTunes: an app that needs no introduction. It is a great jukebox on top of being a great store and syncing utility for iPods/iPhones.

iPhoto 08': Keeps my photo album tidy.

iMovie 08': I was in a Mass Media class last year and this help me make great films for that class. It's for amateurs just like all the iLife apps. Just because they are aimed at amateurs that doesn't mean they aren't powerful.

Twitterific: by far the best desktop Twitter client for the Mac. Created by Iconfactory.

Time Machine: Used in conjunction with Time Capsule for backups.

Terminal: Much like the command line in Windows this can be used for system tweaks to compiling code like me.

Textmate: A wonderful third party text editor with with preset modes that allow you to write just about any programming language you can think of. Created by MacroMates.

Caffeine: This tiny app keeps your Mac from falling into sleep mode when activated. Created by Lighthead

Delicious Library 2: Keeps all your physical media cataloged and in order. Created by Delicious Monster

Evernote Desktop Client: Keeps all my notes organized in the their cloud and is accesable via this Desktop Client. Also available for Windows. Created by Evernote Corporation

iWork 08': Not quite as feature complete as the turd that is Microsoft Office 2008, but it is only $79 dollars compared to $149 for a student edition of MS Office, and does everything I need as a high school student.

iPod Touch: 16GB, iPhone OS X 2.0.1,

iPod Touch/iPhone Software:

I use ALL of the standard apps the device ships with regularly, but in addition to that I use these as follows:

Twitterific: As good if not better than the apps big desktop brother. Created by Iconfactory.

Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D: Cute little racing game set in the Crash Bandicoot universe it's deffinately worth the $9.99 is spent.

Band: This app allows you to "create" music with a set of rich instuments. Sounds great and is a lot of fun.

Break Classic: Great game that brings an old classic back into the spotlight. Created by bootant.com

Evernote: Client app for the note keeping cloud service of the same name. This keeps me organized on the go. Created by Evernote Corporation.

Google Mobile App: It's nice and helpful in a pinch but the webpage already does most of what this app does. Created by Google.

Mobile News Network: Associated Press app that keeps me informed. That said I really don't trust the media. Created by Associated Press

Pandora Radio: This map is amazing. If you are connected to the internet then you are connected to a bunch (a bunch is metric) of internet radio station that are a part of the Music Genome Project. Created by Pandora Media, Inc

Remote: Apple's app that turns your iPod Touch/iPhone into a remote to control iTunes on your Mac.

Tap Tap Revenge: A rythem game similar to Guitar Hero. Created by Tapulous

Tipulator: A tip calculator. Yes I know I could use the standard calculator app to handle my tip calculation, but this one was too sexy to pass up. Created by Tap tap tap.

Last but not least.

Wordpress: This app allows you to post to Wordpress blog via your iPod Touch/iPhone. Created by Wordpress

The LG enV(2), also known as the VX9100, which is exclusive on the Verizon Wireless Network offers much more then your average cell phone, but not quite as much as a smart phone.
In this tutorial I will be showing you how to transfer contacts and calendar events from your enV(2) to your Mac via bluetooth.

[caption id="attachment_11" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption=" "][/caption]
