I should let you know that I'm not an expert in viral marketing, or marketing for that matter. However, I have heard things from people in the business who know a lot more than me. Common themes have emerged, though, from all the conversations I've had in terms of V.M., such as:

-It's hard to gauge what will become "viral" and what won't, so unless you have some crazy gift that allows you know what will become "cool" or take hold among the audience, then it's really impossible to plan.

-However, things that are interactive have seemed to work better, like the example I gave of Paltalk.  JibJab also produced one related to the election:

-Another option is looking for videos on YouTube that have become popular (those that relate to your product or company) and sponsor the creator, like what Dr. Pepper and Stride gum did:

This is sort of a quick response, but I hope it helps a little. If you do create something, send it over to me and I'll post it here.

Noting that the world is not unanimous in its choice, he went on to say: "It is clear, however, whose election would have the most dramatic effect: Barack Obama's. In one fell swoop, an Obama victory would eliminate at least half the massive anti-Americanism now felt around the world."

With a dozen more weeks left before the early November election, we won't hazard a guess on its outcome -- but I sure hope Obama wins! Meanwhile, I want to share a very funny, short video that JibJab released last week looking at the whole presidential election campaigning that has gripped Americans this year.

Over the weekend, I shared this link with a dozen friends. One of them, an American friend Tedson J Meyers, is an apparent Democratic sympathiser and certainly an Obama fan. He just sent me this rejoinder to JibJab:

I am deeply disturbed by jibjab's condescension
It is clear that they need some parental attention
Campaigning you see is our way of life
It keeps us keen as the edge of a knife
That's why I believe jibjab need addressing
Perhaps they don't know that "Barack" means "a blessing"?

Who are these guys? Here's a self intro from their YouTube channel:
Brothers Gregg and Evan Spiridellis founded JibJab in 1999 with a few thousand dollars worth of computer equipment, a dial-up Internet connection and a dream of building a global entertainment brand. In 2004, their election parody "This Land" spark an international sensation and was viewed more than 80 million times online. In a tough satire, then send G. Bush on the road, they tease with the billions and billions of dollars spend on the campaign, the candidate's profile, well I guess they tease with the entire democratic system...

But heck... it's funny! :)

Garnering a bunch of press this week (specifically Wednesday) was JibJab. All this buzz was surrounding the release of the above eCard (which is actually a link because JibJab isn't embedding in my blog post) entitled "Time for Some Campaignin'." (The one above was customized by Sydney in my office... you'll notice it has my face in it towards the end... thanks, Sydney). In it the folks at JibJab, satarize McCain and  Obama and a bunch of other political figures.  JibJab did the same thing four years ago with their eCard "This Land!" which features Kerry and Bush.
