<p>Como fã de videojogos, certos títulos chamaram mais a minha atenção que outros e por isso mesmo resolvi fazer este especial sobre a GC, abordando aqueles que na minha opinião foram os jogos mais relevantes do evento.</p>
<h2><span style="color:#ff9900;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong><span>KILLZONE 2</span></strong></span></span></h2>

<p>Na sequência de um jogo que a crítica e alguns 'papagaios' classificaram como uma desilusão (apesar de na minha opinião ser um jogo fantástico...), a Guerrilla inicia prontamente o desenvolvimento da sua sequela, KIllzone 2. Depois de sucessivos atrasos na produção, e algum tempo sem dar notícias, a Guerrilla apresenta a sua criação ao público na Games Convention, disposta a corrigir os "erros" do passado.</p>
<p>O foco da produtora foi todo dado à componente online do jogo, baseada num sistema de missões. Os tipos de missões não fogem muito ao que presenciámos no viciante modo multiplayer de Killzone, indo desde o habitual Deathmatch até a um Search &#38; Retrieve. Com uma abordagem centrada no trabalho em equipa e com a possiblidade de escolhermos características de outras classes que não a escolhida por nós, o modo online figura-se como um dos grandes atractivos de Killzone 2. A Guerrilla já confirmou a inclusão de bots nas sessões multiplayer quer online, quer offline.</p>

<p>Para já, e pelo que posso ver pelas dezenas de imagens que vi na Internet e revistas da especialidade, posso dizer que o grafismo de qualidade parece estar assegurado, algo confirmado pela crítica, que foi quem lá esteve na apresentação. É esperar para ver o resultado, depois de um primeiro tiro que parece ter defraudado muita gente, não por não ser bom, pois é claramente um dos melhores FPS de sempre, mas porque para ele foram criadas expectativas excessivamente altas.</p>
<h2><span style="color:#ff9900;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span><span><strong>MIRROR'S EDGE</strong></span></span></span></span></h2>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-56" href="http://thewarmcoffee.wordpress.com/2008/09/28/leipzig-games-convention/mirrorsedgetw2/"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-56" title="mirrorsedgetw2" src="http://thewarmcoffee.wordpress.com/files/2008/09/mirrorsedgetw2.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="240" /></a> Este é talvez um dos jogos mais inovadores dos últimos tempos. Dá pelo nome de Mirror's Edge, produzido pela EA Digital Illusions CE, e é caracterizado pela sua mistura de géneros. O jogo é predominantemente de aventura, jogado na primeira pessoa com alguns elementos de acção.</p>
<p>Controlamos Faith, uma jovem crescida nas ruas de uma cidade controlada por um regime de totalitarismo, onde os únicos meios de comunicação independentes ao governo são mensageiros como ela, que correm pela cidade fazendo circular informação. O objectivo imediato de Faith é libertar a irmã, presa pelo governo opressivo, o mesmo que matou os seus pais. Quando Faith consegue salvar a sua irmã, distribuindo mensagens no submundo do crime, vê-se perseguida por agentes do governo, presumivelmente grande parte dos inimigos que teremos de enfrentar ao longo da aventura. Segundo a produtora o envolvimento do jogador com os movimentos de Faith será quase total, tendo este de recorrer a combinações de botões para executar certas acções. A jogabilidade permitirá também controlar quase todas as partes do corpo de Faith, e para conseguir uma experiência de jogo mais fluida será necessário ter em atenção o timing em que pressionamos os botões, e a velocidade e posição de Faith relativamente ao cenário. Ao contrário de outros jogos na primeira pessoa, em Mirror's Edge será possível ver tanto as pernas como braços e tronco de Faith.</p>

<p>Os gráficos estão muito bons, embora a diversidade de cores seja muito limitada conforme o nível. A cidade que vemos nas imagens, por exemplo, recorre a azuis, uma escala de cinzentos, tons alaranjados, e para facilitar a vida ao jogador, os caminho por onde Faith deve seguir são coloridos a vermelho no próprio cenário, em tempo real.</p>
<p>Uma aposta forte da EA que promete dar bom resultado.</p>
<h2><span style="color:#ff9900;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>007: Quantum Of Solace</strong></span></span></h2>

<p>Já com Daniel Craig no papel do agente secreto mais famoso do mundo, emprestando voz e aparência ao título, este jogo inspirado em Casino Royale e obviamente no novo filme Quantum Of Solace, a estrear pouco depois do lançamento do jogo, abraça assim a nova geração de consolas, não esquecendo a PS2 e a DS. O jogo usa uma mecânica semelhante a Rainbow Six Vegas, usando uma perspectiva nomal de um FPS e mudando a câmara para a terceira pessoa nas sequências de tiro, enquando Bond se cobre.</p>

<p>Não é uma revolução nos FPS, mas pelo que foi mostrado, parece ser um jogo a considerar pelos fãs do agente secreto.</p>
<h2><span style="color:#ff9900;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong><span>SONIC UNLEASHED</span></strong></span></span></h2>

<p>As expectativas são elevadíssimas, e a pressão carregada pela SEGA é imensa. Depois de várias desilusões nos últimos anos, e de alguns spin-offs menos conseguidos, a SEGA promete este ano voltar a carga com a sua mascote, Sonic, e promete também fazer regressar a magia do 2D, conjugada com o 3D que tanta gente gosta e detesta.</p>

<p>Com Unleashed a SEGA mistura uma engine 3D muito semelhante à vista em Sonic &#38; The Secret Rings (um jogo de qualidade no meio de tantos 'fracassos' nos últimos tempos) com o clássico 2D, usando somente mudanças de ângulos de câmara para o efeito. A SEGA já fez saber que, apesar de à primeira vista estas mudanças de 2D para 3D e vice-versa parecerem um pouco bruscas, não irão interferir de forma negativa na jogabilidade, servindo para enriquecer a experiência de jogo, responder a pedidos de alguns fãs, e retirar monotonia ao jogo.</p>
<p>A velocidade desenfreada (por vezes até demais!) está garantida, o grafismo colorido também, e a inclusão de Werehog, uma metamorfose de Sonic para os níveis nocturnos e com uma vertente mais virada para plataformas e acção, pode ser uma mais-valia para este regresso do ouriço azul mais famoso da história, que para já promete muito!</p>
<h2><span style="color:#ff9900;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>HEAVY RAIN</strong></span></span></h2>

<p>Este é sem dúvida o título mais surpreendente e interessante da GC. Tudo começou na E3 de 2006, quando sem se saber muito bem porquê, uma demo tecnológica foi mostrada ao público. Ela consistia num vídeo (a imagem acima é um screenshot desse mesmo vídeo) mostrando uma jovem concorrendo a um casting ("The Casting" era o nome do vídeo) para um suposto filme, encenando assim um excerto emocionnte desse "filme". O vídeo agradou, e ali ficou. Agora vem-se a saber que tudo não passava de um teste de um jogo que em si nada tem a ver com aquilo presenciado no vídeo (a nao ser a autoria). Apenas serviu como uma amostra do motor gráfico que vai ser agora utilizado pelos produtores do jogo, os mesmo do aclamado Fahrenheit, em Heavy Rain, um jogo de aventura que promete muita envolvência entre o jogador, a personagem, uma jovem que nada tem a ver com a do vídeo, e o próprio enredo. Segundo a Quantic Dream o jogador terá de usar os analógicos da PS3 (a única plataforma abrangida pelo jogo) para controlar os membros superiores da protagonista, e também recorrer a Quick Time events para prosseguir na trama.</p>

<p>A exploração será um dos pontos fortes da jogabilidade, onde o jogador terá de se valer por si, e tomar algumas decisões, decisões essas que influenciarão ou não o desenrolar e o desfecho da história. A produtora revela também que o estado físico da personagem se manterá mais ou menos constante até ao final da trama, isto é, se nos cortarmos ou 'ganharmos' uma nódoa negra, os ferimentos ali ficarão por um bom tempo. Realista. A Quantic Dream adiantou também que será possível jogar o jogo várias vezes sem repetir a história, devido à quantidade de decisões e possibilidade de acontecimentos que podem alterar o rumo do enredo, aumentando drasticamente a longevidade.</p>
<p>De momento pouco se sabe sobre este exclusivo da consola da Sony, que poderá muito bem ser um tremendo sucesso como um fracasso completo, dependendo da forma como a produtora desenvolver o jogo e também da forma como gerir a pressão que já recai sobre ela. Para já mantém-se as boas impressões.</p>
<h2><span style="color:#ff9900;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>GUITAR HERO: WORLD TOUR</strong></span></span></h2>

<p>É este um dos novos acessórios de Guitar Hero, introduzido pela sequela World Tour. Uma batéria que promete dar muitas horas de diversão quando utilizada conjuntamente com a tradicional guitarra e o também novo microfone. Isto significa que para além de termos de usar as unhas, teremos de puxar pela voz e pelos braços neste novo GH. Agora sim formaremos a derradeira banda.</p>
<p>Uma outra novidade, que promete revolucionar a série, é o Music Creator que permite editar as nossas próprias faixas e compartilha-las com outros usuários online.</p>

<p>Apesar de não ser nada de novo, esta série parece estar a ir mais além, e já há muito boa gente entusiasmada com o jogo.</p>
<p>Outros títulos a considerar, presentes na GC:</p>
<p>- Street Fighter IV -&#62; o grafismo 3D com elementos cartoon pode vir a agradar os fãs.</p>
<p>- Left 4 Dead -&#62; um FPS exclusivo da 360, que mistura acção desenfreada e massissa com zombies em números de proporções épicas. Muita intensidade nos combates está prevista...</p>
<p>- Saint's Row 2 -&#62; o melhor 'clone de GTA' até à data promete regressar em forma, e com uma convidada especial, Tera Patrick, conhecida estrela de um certo ramo cinematográfico... :P</p>
<p>- LittleBigPlanet -&#62; o jogo mais curioso dos últimos tempos revela finalmente a data de lançamento.</p>
<p>- Mad World -&#62; uma aventura dos produtores de Okami, com um grafismo ispirado nos filmes 'noir'.</p>
<p>- Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising -&#62; um FPS inspirado em cenários de guerra com uma vertente táctica e IA apuradas, e feito por uma produtora determinada a confirmar as boas impressões deixadas pelo primeiro título.</p>
<p>- WWE: Smackdown! vs. RAW 2009 -&#62; mais um enjoativo título de wrestling para por os miúdos a andar à porrada na escola. Ainda assim pode ser uma agradável surpresa para os fãs da modalidade (que já não são muitos...) pois a produtora está decidida a dar à perna. Afinal de contas, a concorrência da TNA já chegou...</p>
<p>- Need For Speed: Undercover -&#62; mais uma franchise que já está mais que gasta. Só para fãs dedicados.</p>

<p align="center"><em>Thoughts on Scott's Words</em></p>
<p>Scott Steinberg told <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/blogs/my-belief-playstation-3-advantage">Edge Online</a> that the PS3 will "separate from the herd." How will the PS3 do this? CHOICE. Now before you lambast this notion, let's take the time to analyze the type of choices the PS3 allows gamers to make. Heck, we'll even look at the examples that Scott gave himself.</p>
<ol type="1">
<li><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Blu-Ray      or Downloads</strong></span><br />
I personally prefer Blu-Rays myself, but there is a growing number of      consumers that want to have access to their videos via their PS3 HDD. I      won't lie, it is very convenient. Though the video quality is not on par      with Blu-Ray as of yet, it is definitely a feature that allows a PS3 owner      to enjoy HD content on their console in a means that he or she may desire.      Not to mention that the PS3 is the only console on the market that plays      Blu-Rays. Yes, I know you knew that already.<!--more--></li>
<li><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Games</strong></span><br />
Sony's strength has always been the array of titles that were available      for the PlayStation brand. This has only been increased due to the advent      of downloadable titles via the PS Store. You see titles from developers      such as Criterion, Burnout, and Tiki Games, Novastrike. Media Molecule has      developed a gem, LittleBigPlanet. Media Molecule is not known as a large      developer. On the other hand, you have the titles like Metal Gear Solid 4,      Final Fantasy XIII, and the like available for the PS3 as well. Can't      argue against those hard facts.</li>
<li><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Hardware</strong></span><br />
How is this a choice? The options that developers have at their disposal      in creating masterpieces. You saw MGS 4, this hardware is outrageous. The      horsepower within the PS3 is without question one of its greatest      strengths. We have heard developers complain about the difficulties in      programming for it, now we are hearing the virtues of the PS3. Blu-Ray has      become an asset and the Cell is providing the opportunity to do things      that developers have long dreamed of. No longer do they have to choose if      they want to include a feature or part of the game due to a lack of space      or strength, it now is up to them to decide if they truly want to put that      type of time and effort into the game. That's choice you can believe in.</li>
</ol>
<p>Scott did say that there are several big titles to come in the future. His tone really made it seem like 2008 was barely the tip of the iceberg. I love that. Sony is always thinking about tomorrow. My question is, with Heavy Rain, White Knight Story (in the US and Europe hopefully), M.A.G., InFamous, and Killzone 2 coming in 2009, what all does Sony truly have up its sleeve?</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">On display were both NFS: Undercover and MC: LA. And the more attractive of the two, by far, was MC: LA. Yes, NFS: Undercover had a more polished, crisper feel to it, but the gameplay was the same ‘meh-arcadey’ as always; nothing brilliant. On the other hand, MC: LA’s gameplay was...nothing new either. Think of it as MC3: DUB but running on the GTA4’s engine.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The only playable car was a Dubbed out (of course) Mustang. A typical checkpoint race was on display, and as always you could use shortcuts should you <span style="text-decoration:line-through;">find any</span> desire. Often, when cornering, the game sort of auto-handled your exit path out of a turn. This mini-autopilot is rather irksome at first, but soon you get used to it, and hence take advantage of it. The game doesn’t scream next-gen like NFS: Undercover does, but it doesn’t need to either. Like GTA4, it’s all about the presentation and having fun. Unlike GTA4 however, the gameplay here is actually good.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">After watching all the games on the show floor, this was hands down the biggest shocker, besides Resident Evil 5. That the game looks almost as good as the initial trailer released back in ’05. Pre-rendered speculation be damned, this shit is for real! What we played was the pre-alpha version, and even then it looked stunning. <span> </span>The biggest draw here is the cinematic lighting and the smooth visuals. The outside level where we started off was straight in the middle of a battlefield where things were blowing up all over the place. The amount of stuff going on, and then our involvement in all of that, gave this game a feeling of unprecedented epicness. And although the action felt in your face, it was also very natural and intuitive. However, the same cannot be said about the controls, which felt rather detached given the fast pacing of the game. A little tweaking should do the trick, and Guerrilla Games have 5 months to work out the kinks.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">World Tour is the <span style="text-decoration:line-through;">final</span> most obvious evolution for the Guitar Hero franchise. As the second big party game of the year, World Tour tries it’s best to make you spend your money on yet another set of plastic toys to have fun with.<span> </span>And it sure as hell makes a strong case. Learning from Rock Band’s mistakes, World Tour gives quieter and more sensitive drums, and the equipment feels much sturdier and of good quality overall. The gameplay feels pretty much like Rock Band, which is of course the only way to do it, since it’s so streamlined for easy ‘pickup and play’. Also, remember that if you feel like playing Rock Band, the peripherals are cross-compatible for all games now (World Tour/ Rock Band/ Rock Revolution).</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Street Fighter IV is freaking INSANE! Alright, I sound like a fanboi, but the fact that SFIV exists in its form screams of fanservice! And its precisely that, oozing love for the Street Fighter lineage right from the sexy air brush intro video up to the 2D PvP fight combos. The build available only had the arcade fighting sequence and we could never see the progress since the stands were always filled with 2 players (I was one of the first to have my Vega's and Ken's ass handed to me!). It's smooth, it's slick and even on Standard Def Composite cables the game looked beautiful. The cell shading has definitely done the trick and even though Chunli's shawarma legs look horrendous, you better watch out when they'd be on you for her special move. We didn't get to see an awful lot of Super or Ultra category moves from the gauge that got charged below the players, but the general combos and Haduken's were flying around like cakes. AND THAT makes one wonder, why wait till February?!</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Gears of War 2 was one of the games we couldn't let go of. We sat down to play it and we got hooked onto it instantly. They had hooked up 2 systems side-by-side to play some 2v2 through system link. And boy was it fun! The level of intensity built up by the matches were insane. The addition of new weapons and polishing the old one's to make it glitch-free was what we loved the most. Having chainsaw battles was a nice mini game to add. Maps were looking brilliant and the addition of new modes is just fantastic! Game was running smooth as it should have, and this is one of the games that was a big attraction at Games '08. It was only an hour since we had gone away from this game that we wanted to play it again and again...</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Resident Evil 5 was one of the games that blew me away by just looking at it. It was still in its beta stage but man did it look sweet! The level of detail on the character and the environment was simply amazing. The textures used were just brilliant and the light effects were simply beautiful. The controls were the same old Resident Evil game controls we have all come to <span style="text-decoration:line-through;">hate</span> love. This is definitely one of the biggest games to look out for next year.</p>

<p>Peter Moore has been in the video game industry longer than many people have been alive. I would be a fool to not acknowledge that. He is known by some as the man that watched the Dreamcast crash and burn. Others attribute him to the red rings of death. I cannot tell you which is better. Currently the head of EA Sports, Mr. Moore has decided to make comments regarding Sony. Is anyone the least bit surprised? Are the comments fair? Are the comments justified? Maybe, but that does not mean I have to like the individual that made them.</p>

<p>Peter Moore's comments regarding the PS2 boggle the mind. Not because the comments are untrue, but because the comments were unnecessary. I remember sitting back and enjoying all of the promised features coming to the PS2. Sony promised AOL, internet browsers, and the like. None of these things came to fruition. (Imagine that). This is something that many people have not forgotten. Some compare Home to these promises. They simply do not believe Sony will deliver the goods. I will continue that some other time though. What the PS2 did give us were games like God of War and Shadow of Colossus. I do not see that as under delivering. The PS2 gave us games. Great games in a variety of genres and that is something that the XBOX brand has yet to give the gaming community. (This is my opinion, but if you ask some people, it is fact).</p>
<p>Bashing the Killzone video years later is just petty. I thought you did not work for Microsoft anymore. I guess I was wrong. Comments such as this make it hard for people to forget that Peter Moore once fought so hard against the success of the PlayStation 3. He made his bias obvious. How? He said that the game will not live up to the video. Did he not see the in-game footage and actual game play for Killzone 2? He could not have with the comments he has made. Was Killzone 2 under a lot of pressure? It certainly was and I have yet to hear one critic say that the visuals do not deliver. Peter Moore seems to be the only one that is not impressed. I wonder why?</p>
<p>Peter Moore knows more about the industry than I do. I admire him for all that he has done for the industry. He may not support my favorite console or even think it is necessary to give credit where credit is due, but he gets his job done. He did ensure that we got a Madden that was worth playing this year. (Can I get an amen Pete)? Overall, I just wish that Peter Moore would not let his bias from being a PlayStation rival for years shine through in what he has to say. I actually hope to not only meet him, but to interview him someday.</p>
<p>See Mr. Moore. I do not dislike you. I may not agree with your views, but I certainly look forward to seeing where you take EA Sports.</p>

<li>Abbiamo un' esperienza di gioco molto immersiva, per ciò tutto è stato riprodotto in "<strong>prima persona</strong>". Anche il sistema di copertura è in "prima persona". L'intero gioco sarà così.</li>

<p>This article was written in the early days of PSLS. We were still known as Sev1512.wordpress.com in those days. This was one of the first opinion pieces that I had written for the site. It was a pleasure to write and an even greater pleasure to read what everyone thought about it. Of course we now know that there will not be any direct competition between Resistance 2 and Killzone, but you cannot help but to love remembering the excitement about the prospect of having both games in your hands in a matter of months. To be honest, they are still being released within 3 months of each other. Yes...I am getting both.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">Much has been said about the PLAYSTATION 3 since it has been released. Critics have often attempted to say that there is a lack of quality titles available for the console. With this in mind the same critics have stated that Sony would be doing itself a disservice if it were to allow the release of Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 within the same quarter. Some have reported that Sony has confirmed plans to do this, but have since been debunked. My question to this is: What is the problem with releasing 2 AAA shooters in close proximity to each other?</p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">I could start this argument by stating that this was not a problem when Mass Effect and Bioshock were released on another console, but that would be an unnecessary point. Instead I'll ask you a simple question, if you are gamer and you are presented with a must have game what would you do? I'm guessing you would buy if you are interested. Let me tell you a quick bit about these upcoming titles, and you let me know if they peak your interest?</p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">Resistance 2 as you know will be the sequel to the PS3 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man. It will continue the story of Nathan Hale and will look to improve on all of the things that made the original great, in addition to fixing the things that held the original back. There will be an emphasis on the online aspects of the game as well. There will 64 player death matches and an 8 player online co-op mode. This is in addition to the various community features the game will offer including interactivity with myresistance.net. If you played the original, then you know this game is a must have.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">Killzone 2 is the 3<sup>rd</sup> entry in the Killzone series. Not much is currently known about the title other than it is continuing the story of Killzone and you will on the Helghast world, Helghan. You will take the role of Sev and will be able to take advantage of the new “Lean and Peak” cover system. So far all of the footage of this game has been simply amazing. The first entry in this series was a solid title that attempted to push the PS2 to its limits. It was followed by Killzone: Liberation for the PSP, which remains a popular title to this day. The amount of time and money that is being invested by Sony and Guerilla Games would cause one to believe that this will be a great title.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">So are you interested? I know I am. Not only am I interested in both titles, I will definitely be purchasing both titles whenever they are released. Both will offer unique experiences that go beyond the gameplay, but extend to the story as well. Something that every shooter cannot say.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">Sony would be giving gamers the opportunity to enjoy two great games in a relatively short amount of time. This in addition to silencing those that say that the PS3 doesn't have must have titles. I already see several titles that I believe are must haves on the PS3, these 2 will only add to that. I'm putting my money aside for this early. Will you be doing the same?</p>

<div>in other news, the <a href="http://www.google.com/chrome">chrome</a> beta was released today by the folks at google.  in my little experience with it (it's only windows at the moment, so i run it in parallels both on my mac mini at work and on my macbook) i can say it's pretty sweet.  i'm relatively satisfied with safari (gasp!) but i can see myself switching over when they add native mac support.  then fully 90% of my existence will be owned by either apple or google.  the remaining 10% belongs to sony and marlboro.</div>

<div>speaking of sony, i played a bit of <em>siren: blood curse</em> this weekend.  truly frightening game.  it makes me hunger for<em> resident evil 5</em>, and a host of other really exciting upcoming releases, including but not limited to:<em> star wars: the force unleashed</em>,<em> resistance 2</em>, <em>little big planet</em>, <em>rock band 2</em>, <em>silent hill 5</em>, and <em>killzone 2</em>.  it's gonna be a sweet couple of months for gamers, that's for sure.</div>
