Okay so i have to admit its been a slow week musically but i have a few highlights to share from this weeks show. You know, I love the idea of romance, in the likes of citylights at night, mellow music, a kiss on the cheek (not the ass cheek.. Well, maybe later) and all that shit that goes under the category of romance.. I love it, and to some extent it's some sort of escapism. A escape from the boredom of everyday life and to see something more behind it all, but sometimes other people's reality of it all slaps you up against the wall and smashes your dreams and cramps your freedom.

The romance I'm speaking of I think is very well embodied in this Lifelike remix of Relation's Your Tiny Mind, and of course there can't be romance without synths and that special 80's feel. Hey, we're all different, some say potato some say påtatå. Funny? No?

Miami Horror is one of the dj/producers with quality music and talent that's become increasingly popular recently. Especially with the new Sweat It Out compilation mix that's hit the stores and the tour around Australia coming up!

How did you come up with the name?
It was a combination of things. It was something I decided on but then changed my mind quickly however things took off before anyone could come up with a something better. Apparently people like it though, so it depends how you see it. It fits the image really well and more may be revealed about it within the album.

Tell me a little about yourself? (so I can stalk you)
I'm Benjamin, from Eltham Victoria. 21yr old. But you wouldn't find me if you tried.

What did you do before the group started?
I studied films, the others studied graphic design, psychology and genetics.

How did you start out/ was it hard?
I'd been making basic tracks for 3/4 years as a hobby and then I started to lift my game, next thing the tracks I did for GBGG tracks were on blogs and then Miami Horror. It was very easy but thought out over a few years. There are alot of young artists that have made their first or second tracks who successfully try to get it on blogs to get feedback. So although now its easy for alot of people to get their stuff out there whether its actually quality or crap, there seems to be an overall lower standard and suddenly new music becomes devalued.

Any big plans for the near future?
A very exciting album after the EP. The EP out mid year, Album ready by end of this year with a few preview singles before hand.

Do you have a secret name for your favourite inanimate object?
No, I just call it by its real name, dildo.

Does being in a band help in picking up girls/boys?
Yes girls. But Im too picky for it to be of much use and the other guys have girlfriends.

Has anything crazy or embarrassing ever happened during a live gig?
Once I was djing and I accidentaly pressed cue instead of play while mixing, consequently I had to hold it until through the whole song as I mixed in the other song with one hand. The others were watching and laughing, then next thing I know this girl pulled my pants down and I had to leave them down while I mixed. But I didn't mind, because everyone just found out that the rumors and true.

Well the EP and Album is something to look forward to, but there's still a few bits and pieces of his that are floating around.

Nuns Playing Basketball - 1991 

For some reason, the thought of Nuns playing basketball struck me as funny. So when we had to shoot some bumpers for BENT!, and Pat suggested his wife had some nun habits from a theater production, we had to shoot something. So of course, we set up a camera on a wide shot in his front yard in NH, and proceeded to practice a hookshot.

It took only a few minutes for a couple to stop their car, and take out a camera to shoot shots. I guess 2 guys dressed up as nuns playing basketball isn't as common a sight as you might guess. So we did what we usually do. We interviewed them to ask why they stopped. Of course, we were still in costume at the time.

Quick, a homage to the long years spent in the Catholic school system, and silly. enjoy.

Lifelike's "So Electric" wird mein French House Track für diesen Sommer. So viel ist mal sicher.

Okay, okay... diejenigen, die es ganz genau nehmen, werden sagen, dass der Track bereits im Juli 2007 erschienen ist und daher für diesen Sommer schon verbrannt ist. Mir ist das aber ziemlich wurscht. Ich höre "So Electric" gerade rauf und runter, habe ihn sowohl im Auto-CD-Player, im iPod und zuhause in der Anlage liegen, weil er bei mir dieses grundsätzliche "Kniewippen" auslöst, das nur die ganz großen Tracks entstehen lassen.

Also liebe Freunde der französischen Tanzmusik: "Rubicon" war gestern (ach... was sag' ich: vorgestern)... "So Electric" ist nach "Discopolis" der nächste Geniestreich von Lifelike.

A technicoloured trip through crystal cities and swirling universes, this new video for The Presets is a snapshot straight from the mind’s eye of some of Australia’s premiere creative gurus.

On the hunt for some music to blast out of their German car stereos, BMW heard the 2005 stormer Are You The One? and flipped.

However we wanted to revitalise the engine room of the song and commissioned a remix by French whiz-kid (and all around nice guy), Lifelike.

The result was an post-electro love child, that bridged the gap between Beams and The Presets sophomore album, Apocalypso.

To celebrate BMW and Modular approached Jonathan Zawada and Shane Sakkeus (alongside the production brainiacs at Collider) to create a new video algorithm to solve the age old problem "what do youget when you cross The Presets + BMW + LifeLike + Zawada + Sakkeus + Collider?" The answer; a joy ride of the imagination that results in pure optical bliss.

Traversing through parallel worlds of rainbow moon rocks, pyramids, and cosmic clouds, THE ONE(s) navigates the heavens and the earths alike. Ecstasy to the eye. Drink it in people.

First off, dance party at my current "residency"

Second, I've been busy on the music angle. Check out a new version of a classic and a questionable mash.

Third, new, old, and new old shit:

Lifelike doesn't fuck around when it comes to synth-rich dance tracks, whether its remixes or originals. He's got his head on straight for the crowd he's speaking to, which seems to be the people that like getting dressed up and going out to party. My kind of people. He's got one of his recent remixes free for downloading on his myspace and at Cazals myspace

After having this track and bumping it for two months at various gigs you'd think I'd be tired of Dave Nada's 'Go Girl' remix. I am not. Currently Dave Nada is ripping up the West Coast with Dj Sega and Blaqstarr.

Hell DJ Self-Help blew out the party jams, including Blaqstarr's "Shake it To the Ground" at the last party I djed featuring Time Machine. Time Machine killed it, 'bout time someone had some coordinated dance moves with their stage show.

So Chicago isn't out of my sights, and not out of my mind. I'm just about to get into that territory where everything blows up.

Lifelike & Kris Menace - Discopolis (2007)

I asked him what games he played on a regular basis, and he then answered with "UT3, and Crysis".

When I asked him why he played those games, he said "They have good graphics.", so I asked him why he didn't play doom 3, or quake 4. His response was "The graphics suck."

Are you kidding me? What are you smoking? How can you categorize yourself as a gamer if you only play games because of graphics?

Graphics DON'T make a good game, and simply dismissing a game because it doesn't have life-like graphics is not what gaming is about.

Starcraft (Including Brood War) is still one of the best RTS games out there. It uses (IIRC) 640x480 resolution, and the graphics aren't all that great. You know why it's one of the best RTS's? Gameplay.

The funny thing is, most of the games this person dismisses as "lame" hasn't played the game. He relies on other peoples screenshots and reviews to base his decision on purchasing it.

For example, quite a while back I suggested Diablo 2 with the LOD expansion to him. Diablo 2 is a game that's been out since the late '90's and early 2000's, so the graphics weren't as good as modern games, yet it still had an enormous userbase. (We're talking 8 years, and people still play the game. Blizzard must be doing something right!) He found a few screenshots or videos on youtube, dismissed it as "crap" because it wasn't lifelike.

Is this what all gamers think nowadays, or is it just a few people who think they're gamers?

I'll give you my word, this'll be the last post about my arm, I can almost give you a 80% guarantee on that little sucker.
And those who are grossed out by blood and of that nature, look away now.. While somebody else beside you read this blogpost in their head and the whole thing would be displayed like a movie, so you'd have to look away, you see? 'cause the text would just appear right in front of you, like a picture.. So..

My stitches were to be removed from my arm this morning, all 24 of them.. And my God, so they did. When the nurse and me approached the final stitch I remembered that a very small piece of my flesh was on the outside of the scar, it's supposed to be on the inside of me.
And I somehow figured that it would fall off or just dry up later on. Which it did not. And the thing had swollen (I told you to look away) and was not looking cat-walkie.

The doctor came in and said that we got to cut that thang off. Scalpels quickly appeared and some kind of heating apparatus which they used to burn that fleshtunnel shut with silver (kewl). Good thing it didn't hurt.

Sorry to be the one to show everyone that the king is naked, but The Presets has to be one of the most overrated bands right now.. Or last year. Whatever. They are quite horrible, not good at all.

The pretentious vocals that sings exactly after every note in the song, you know, the way we sang in kindergarten. I added a new song from The Presets as well, that's really really shit, I laugh when I hear it.. It's really funny. Listen to it.

Describe your expectations for this student (hours per week of research/study, meeting schedule, weekly updates on progress, mid-semester reports, etc.)

Miguel Elvir will be participating in the development of the LifeLike project 20 hours per week. His tasks include the following three objectives:

1. Development of self-learning algorithms, with intent to formulate a prototype for the AskAlex system. This involves the creation of a mechanism whereby the avatar knows when it doesn't know an answer and seeks the answer from some knowledge source. This will address a critical gap in the state of the art in intelligent systems
2. Formulate contextual structures for use in dialogue-based systems that facilitate mechanisms for accessing transient contextual memory. This will allow the avatar to bring into the current conversation facts from a prior conversation.
3. Maintain, revamp, and optimize, if necessary, current LifeLike back-end database systems. It will be converted into a dialog-based system rather than the current search-based system.

   During the course of the project, he will be required to attend weekly project meetings where he will present the progress status of his tasks. These presentations will allow the student to demonstrate new developments and highlight areas of focus for the project. Additionally, Miguel will be working towards meeting milestones as set by the NSF project update deadlines. He will also be developing his Master's thesis through this research project.
