Nissan plans to buy 50,000 A-Star compact cars from its rival Maruti Suzuki and export to markets in Europe. It is also learnt that Tata Motors is talking to dealers to launch its Nano, the ultra low-cost car, in the western markets. Car makers prefer sourcing cars from India since operations are wholly-owned compared to China, enabling low-cost production of components.

Korean car maker Hyundai exports 40% of its small car production, primarily i10 and Santro, which sells as Atos in 97 countries across the world. “Currently, India is a small car hub for Hyundai and we have a backlog of export orders too,” says Hyundai Motor India senior V-P Arvind Saxena. In a slow domestic market, the Korean car major can divert its small cars to western markets. The company is also expanding capacities at its Chennai plant.

The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki currently exports Alto, M800, Omni, Wagon R and Zen Estilo to non-European markets such as Chile, UAE, Algeria and East Africa. The Japanese car maker which exported 53,000 units in 2007-08 will up it to 2-lakh units by 2010. “We had stopped exports to Europe and now we intend to start exporting the A-Star compact car to Europe by year-end,” a company official said.

Nissan too will make a small car in India and start exporting it to Latin American and African countries by 2010. Even while Tata Motors is receiving enquiries from other countries to set up Nano plants, the auto major is also understood to be sprucing up the low-cost car with fitments such as airbags, better interiors and engine options to market it in the overseas markets.

Tata Motors sources said the company might consider issuing licences to a particular car maker in offshore markets, who would manufacture Nano. While the near-term focus is India, international marketing will take place after a few years, company officials said. (setelah gw menjanjikan bahwa kami akan berkeliling dulu baru kembali lagi :p). trus masuk ke toko ini, ke toko itu, trus masuk deh ke toko sini.

di toko ini laptop yang dijual banyakan merek Acer ama Compaq. si mas2 penjualnya udah semangat banget nih nawarin gw Compaq model terbaru 14.1" yg harganya cuma 9jt. tapi sekali lagi, gw belum sreg juga. so, kita cabut lagi dari sana (dan berjanji akan memikirkan pertimbangan si mas2 itu). trus ke toko ini, ke toko itu, sampe ke toko toshiba yang ngejual Toshiba Portege M800-A312. wah... pikir gw, yang warna item kok kampung banget ya. tapi keren juga tuh yang warna putih. oh, just for note, sbnrny gw ga terlalu mentingin style laptop itu sih. bwt gw, spec lebih penting krn gw kan multimedia-oriented :p tertarik ama model ini (specnya lumayan sih), gw nanya harganya. hmm.. aga sedikit di luar budget gw. eh, ngga sih, ngepas banget malah gw itung2. ntar dulu deh, hehe, liat lagi yang lain.

trus pencarian laptop sampai ke toko laptop tempat si yanceh dulu beli laptop BenQ-nya. eng ing eng, ada model BenQ yang lucu. Warna putih, dengan spec yang lumayan pula, tanpa OS sih, seri S32. harganya? cocok. 10jt an. hmmm.... sepertinya ini akan menjadi pilihan gw. ada ganjelan sedikit sih di gw, karena seri BenQ yang ini, HD-nya cuma 160GB, sementara gw maunya minimal 200GB. yanyan nanyain ada ga model yang sama, dengan seri yang berbeda (biasanya ada kan, yang entah HD-nya lebih besar, ato memory lebih gede, etc etc). tapi di toko itu ngga ada. trus kata si toko itu, di ujung lorong ada toko special BenQ dan gw disuru ke sana. jalanlah kami ke sana....

eh ternyata BenQ S32 ini ada tipe yang laen. HDnya 200 GB puw la (wuaaah). warnanya item sih, gpp, lebih keren tnyt krn setelah gw liat yang warna putihnya jijay bombay. setelah nambah OS, jatohnya gw kena 9.8jt. hm... nice. gw mutusin gw pengen beli yang ini aja, so gw bilang ke penjualnya nanti gw akan balik lagi (krn gw mo ngambil duit dulu di ATM). trus yanyan menclok dulu mo nyari headset ama HD external. perjalanan mencari HD external itu sampai ke sebuah toko komputer besar. sambil si yanyan binun2 nyari barangnya n ngecek2 internet via hp dia, gw kliling2 deh ke bagian notebook. trus gw (tidak sengaja) melewati pajangan Toshiba. dan.. malang tidak diduga, gw kembali bertemu dengan Toshiba Portege M800-A312 putih. hoo... kaya begini aslinya. hmmm... oh, lucu juga ya. najep bergabung dg gw menemani liat pajangan. trus yanyan bergabung juga. trus dia ngejelasin fungsi tombol2 tambahan yang ga penting tapi ngaruh banget. fyi, laptop BenQ entah napa ga punya tombol volume di badannya. jadi kalo lo mo ngubah volume, lo mencet Fn + tombol apa di keyboard. rese lah pokonya. pertama gw pikir gw ga bakal kepengaruh ama hal itu. tapi ko, setelah ngeliat badan Toshiba ini, pendirian gw aga2 terguncang xD trus dalem hati gw ngebanding2in BenQ S32 ama Toshiba Portege M800 ini.... sial. gw mendapati gw terganggu dengan tidak adanya fungsi volume di BenQ, meski BenQ bisa gw installin XP 2!! (Toshiba ini punyanya Vista) Trus... kok body Toshibanya agak2 menggiurkan ya..? gw sedikit agak2 kecewa sih dengan body BenQ yang berantakan sisinya meski gw tidak mengatakan hal itu ke yanyan dan najep (hihi).

ah! in just a brink of that thought, i changed my mind immediately! xD si yanyan ama najep uda geleng2 kepala aja "jijie...jijie.." di menit2 terakhir gw berubah pikiran hehe... piss yan, jep. abis ini gw harus nyari lagi si Toshiba ini di toko yg punya harga lebih murah. tapi... ke ATM dulu deh. toh gw uda tau kisaran harganya ^^ si aca bergabung ma rombongan kita setelah gw dari ATM dan nemu toko dengan harga yang pas. toko tempat gw pertama melihat si Portege ini xD pdhl sblmny gw sampe ke toko engkoh2 gt dan barangnya tinggal satu, tapi harganya 60rb lebih mahal xD

Pros:

Excellent phone, lots of fun to play around with. Certainly a great hobbyist gadget, but also a reliable cellphone+player within its GSM reception capacity.
Flashy and good wow factor for your friends (especially when you tell them how much it cost you). Set up your own animated gif and mp3 as a ringtone per contact (if you want), very easy to use.
Excellent ability to just turn of the phone and plug it into your xp, vista, or linux machine and be seen as a external HDD. The CECT P168 is equipped with features that work very well. I use the "to do list", calculator, alarm clock, mp3 player, and others on a daily basis.
Excellent playback on mp3 audio files and mp4 videos (if encoded correctly). Upgrade to 2gb memory easily with a TF flash card. Two batteries, with dual AC charger: charge the second battery and the phone at the same time.
Very good GSM 850/900/1800/1900 reception. Overall usage is easy (once setup), supports dual SIM cards (not both online same time, just both inside but easy switch). It's not locked, there is some really good iTunes alternative freeware out there, and it is certainly not APPLE.

There is an increasing nunmber of users with this phone that are pushing to add games, change the themes and basically modify the operating system and file system to give the phone extra functionality. I can see a huge number of mods and tweaks coming along, one of the main areas people are looking at is the ability of being able to upload more java games onto the phone. What a great hobbyist phone this is, and many people are interested in playing around with it. The head phones are just average, but you can remove the adapter. With a little soldering, you can mod them to work on high quality headphones for spectacular sound.

Cons:

Fixed system font. No manufacturer support - not clear where to get updates/patches/upgrades/additional soft.
Screen resolution - could be higher. Non standard earphone connection. No EU AC charger plug; European customers must use a flat to round plug adapter.
FTP Bluetooth profile does not work, and there is no A2DP Bluetooth profile supported with video player. Web browser non standard and both WAP GPRS settings are difficult to enter.
At this time, no JAVA, and the current OS is unknown, but not a standard OS such as Linux, WM6, Symbian or PalmOS. Email doesn't support SSL, so won't work with GMail and some others,
No WIFI and the phone is quad-band
The Bottom Line:

The P168 is a unique excellent value touchscreen multimedia GSM phone, but clearly not an iphone clone or a smartphone. It is a Dual-Sim quad-Band phone with GSM 850,900, 1800, 1900 band. Overall you get your money's worth with this phone, highly highly recomended.

According to the blogger: "The high-resolution images were obtained from Samsung directly, and rightfully, through a press account granted to me... I used my Mobiledia email to apply, and was granted a login/password and full access to high-resolution photos of upcoming, current and past mobile devices.  ... My access was terminated as of yesterday."

Sounds like really bad PR for Samsung. And they're missing out on a great way to get the word out. Viral marketing is what it's all about nowadays! Just check out all the irate comments added to the blog post and you'll see how bad this is looking to customers. People are even talking about boycotting Samsung.

It reminds of Whataburger's Christmas debacle, when one employee sent out a month of free coupons. When the leak was discovered the coupons were canceled. The story, of course, made it to the front page of my hometown's newspaper (they don't have much going on most days...) It's even living on in infamy on Snopes.  (Side note: I forgave Whataburger when they mailed me 2 coupons for a free Whataburger. If you want a good takeout hamburger, Whataburger is the way to go.) :)

But back to Samsung... Once hailed as a potential "iPhone killer," this phone is quickly becoming a PR killer instead.

 And for all those out there who are wondering if Sprint will be getting a REAL iPhone anytime soon... No. If you're looking to upgrade, don't wait around. Just get one of the alternatives instead: MotoQ9c, HTC Touch, Palm Centro, Blackberry Pearl, or this new Samsung phone.

And when IS the M800 coming out? No word yet. But I'll be looking and will keep you posted.
