그 중 음식물 쓰레기 문제는 인류가 꼭 해결해야 할 문제였다.

음식물 쓰레기는 건축폐기물과  함께 인간이  배출하는 폐기물 중  가장  많은

부분을 차지한다. 우리나라에서 배출되는 음식물 쓰레기는 하루1만 2000여

톤 즉, 5톤 트럭 2400대 분량이다.

쓰레기를 ‘부산물퇴비’나 ‘동물사료’ 등으로 이른바 ‘자원화’하고 있다.  음식물

쓰레기를 소각하는것은 시설의 건설비용이 높고 유지비가 비쌀뿐더러, 대개의

경우 해당지역주민들의 반대에 부딪쳐 소각장의 추가 건설이 사실상 불가능한

 형편이다. 따라서 오직 ‘자원화’에만 의존하는 것이불가피한 상황이다. 

그러나 자원화하여 사료나 퇴비로 사용한다는 것은 ‘현실’ 이라기보다는

‘희망사항’에 가깝다. 무엇보다 음식물 쓰레기를  사료화 하는 과정에 너무나  많은  비용이

든다. 예를 들어,경기도를 기준으로톤당  약 15만 원 가량이 드는 것으로  나타

나고 있는 실정이다.

처리기’란 가정이나 업소에서 액화 등의 방법으로 쉽게 음식물 쓰레기를 처리

하는 것을 도와주는 기기를 말한다. 자가처리기는 친환경적이고 예산낭비의

우려가 없으며, 처리방법이 간단해 일반가정에서도 쉽게 사용할 수 있다.

앞으로 기술은 더욱 더 발전 할 것이다.  우리가 이러한 발전 속에서 꼭 잊지

말아야 할 것이 있다면 자연환경이 아닌가라는 생각을 해본다.

They are calculated individually for each application. In addition to the magnetic clamping, the chuck jaws can also be used to assist the clamping force. The sealed Rota NCM hybrid chuck is available in sizes from 400 to 1600mm. It uses magnets to clamp the workpiece over a large surface, avoiding any distortion. The Rota NCM centres the workpiece in seconds. Previously, operators had to align workpieces manually with a dial gauge in a complex operation.

Schunk's hybrid chuck now completes this task in a fraction of the time and with maximum precision. This rules out operator errors, increases reliability and improves the workpiece quality. Productivity can be increased considerably due to reduced machine downtimes. This chuck enables completely automated grinding machine operations. It opens the way for rational mass production and is also suitable for hard and precision turning.

The workpiece is inserted manually or automatically, precisely centred to a reference value by three or six chuck jaws and then securely clamped by the electro-permanent magnets. An electrical current is all that is required to activate and deactivate the magnets. During the machining, the permanent radial pole magnets provide a completely secure grip on the workpiece without any electrical current. The magnets can be activated with varying output categories so the entire clamping process can be fully automated.

So now back to our scheduled program:
An inventor claims to have produced a device that aged alcoholic beverages in just 30 minutes. For a mere £411.25 (4350 NOK) any young malt can be made into a aged beauty. The device, called "The Quantum Ultrasonic Wine and Spirit Ager", supposedly changes the chemical balance of the alcohol esters, thereby speed aging them.

According to the inventor, Casey Jones, it can make paintstripper whisky taste like an 8 year old Single Malt, and make a bottle of £3.99 plonk taste like a vintage wine from the best houses. Can't say I'm convinced as if it only "ages" the products, a cheap plonk would turn into a vinegary plonk - as it's not made for ageing.

I love using Ubuntu for everything, and I don't want to deal with having to reboot my computer every time I want to use windows and then reboot it again to go back to Ubuntu. So to solve this issue I have done some researching and decided to go with an application called Virtual Box.

A quick sum up of what Virtual Box allows the user to do is this. Virtual Box allows any user to run a separate operating system while in an operating system. Some of you windows users may remember Virtual PC? It was an application Windows developed back in 2004 to allow windows users to run multiple operating systems at the same time. Flaw was that you could only run Windows Operating Systems. Kind of shooting themselves in the foot there. Anyways Virtual box does just that but you can run any operating system and it's all while your running Ubuntu. As a side not I would also like to say that if you have the desktop cube effect enabled you can have different operating systems running at the same time on separate desktops (how freaking cool is that)

Ok now that you know what it does lets get to explaining how to get it installed and going

First make sure your ubuntu machine is fully up to date.
Next go to System>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager
Click Search
Type: Virtual Box OSE
Right Click On Virtual Box OSE
Click Mark For Installation
Click Apply
A window will come up
Click Apply again

Now once ubuntu does it's magic your almost there
Now go to Applications>System Tools>Virtual Box

Now before you say "I can take it from here James"
Listen to what I have to say about this application
In my experience to avoid data loss and other issues it's best to create a fixed disk size instead of dynamic. Don't ask me why just do it.

So decide what operating system you are going to load. If you choose XP I would set at least 10GB to it.

So to do this we click File>Virtual Disk Manager
Then Click New
Set the size and please give it a smart name
It will then create a VDI file which will be used as a HDD for your virtual system
Once you have done that Click OK
Then at the top of the screen Click New
Click Next
Type a name for your virtual machine (I usually just use the OS name)
Then click the drop down box and select what type of OS it is (I'll choose Windows XP)
Click Next
Now you are prompted to give a size for your base memory. This can be a little tricky because it's not virtual memory it's going to use up your actual RAM. So you want to use as little as possible, but at the same time you need to give it enough for the OS to function. So for Windows XP I will use the default setting of 192 MB
Click Next
Click the drop down box and select the virtual HDD you want to use (this is why I said give it a smart name)
Click Next
Click Finish
Click ONCE on the virtual machine you just created
Click Settings
Then Click CD/DVD Rom
you can do one of two options here
A: Mount the actual CD Drive (I would recommend also enabling passthrough)
B: Select an ISO image file to mount as a CD Drive

Once you do that click Okay
Click Start
And go though you typical OS Installation procedure

Although this application is available I would highly recommend trying to use Ubuntu for anything. I would only recommend using this application if there is something that you MUST do that is not offered through open source.

But I am not gonna try to catch up writing about everything. In short:

I'm still getting used to everything and it is more of a culture shock than I expected. School has been really stressful because I had a full schedule (no free periods), but I dropped ap chem 2 yesterday, because even though I love chemistry, it was to stressful trying to learn it the way they do it here... SO now I have a free period between photography and lunch which is perfect :)

Photography is definately my fav subject, the darkroom is awesome, especially if you can do the whole thing from start to finish all by yourself :) I'm gonna upload some shots to my new deviantART account "uepsillon".

I've signed up to help backstage at the school play, doing make-up or costumes or both, and I'm gonna join a few clubs.

And yesterday I found a sowing machine in my host.family's basement, and I want to get it to work (I think the motor is burned out..). Then I could get clothes at the salvation army and alter them... that'd be fun :) I really need a project because I have a lot of free time and it's easy to lose yourself...

Yesterday I also found this cool website: LOOKBOOK.nu
It's basically a website for streetfashion, where you can post pictures of your personal style and outfits and "hype" other people's outfits. It's really inspiring and that is just what I needed :) So check it out:

So I'm going to New York this weekend :D I'm really excited! I'm gonna meet a friend from Switzerland there, which is gonna be really strange... I planned the trip all by myself, I'm leaving on saturday morning, and I come home sunday evening :) I'm really excited :D

Oooh! And I watched Pride and Prejudice yesterday/today and I just love it :) I've seen it before but still, it's just so romantic without being overly cheesy. And I just like movies set in old times :) I like the way the clothes are all pastel colored... and the countrysite looks soooo beautiful!

I've been catching glimpses of episodes every now and then on AXN. Something's really intriguing about this character that keeps me so drawn to the series, however best I try to catch at nights. I'm looking at what it is I like in the work I have been doing over the summer, as well as what I had been doing previously at the sculpture workshop, namely the idea of putting real thought and care into the usually fairly subconcious decisions anyone makes when making 'art'. So I am trying to merge those ideals, but with something a little bit out of my comfort zone, so instead of using the buildings and cityscapes that I enjoy doing, I'm kinda looking at Nature...It doesnt lend itself to the ideal quite as well but either way, I have been making collage type multimedia images and drawings and hopefully something will start to formulate.

As it stands, Im thinking of making a very 'man-made' style object from organice materials, something I touched upon during the summer but didnt pursue...So the idea of making a factory style machine, but with old, weathered wood and pegs and what not....Like I say, early days, hopefully it'l get better...
