Controlling interest of the company was acquired by Peter Woo in 2000. Since 2003 the company has been part of the Lane Crawford Joyce Group, which owns Lane Crawford, Pedder Group, ImagineX, LCJG Distribution Co. and JOYCE boutique. The group represents luxury and fashion brands through a network of distribution, which includes retailing, franchising, and brand management. IMO, LCJG is not unlike a multi-brands version of big conglomerate LVMH or PPR, money people at the end. However, groups like LVMH and PPR somehow do good to their designers to a degree, take a look of Celine and Loewe, or Kenzo, these brands have not been driving business, but the group is giving them the chance still, Newly joined Stuart Vever at Loewe with a single collection is already making noise. Celine just hired Chloé's former money maker Phoebe Philo and already drawing anticipation. After years of trying, they finally get the right designer Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy. However, I do not feel that from LCJG. Led by Lane Crawford, once a frumpy department store for taitais and ladies-who-lunch, which has now revamped and transformed; and even surpassed the unique leading status that JOYCE boutique used to hold for years. Yes, LC have all the brand of the moment at the store and they need LC's money certainly, Nina Ricci, Givenchy, YSL, Lanvin, Burberry Prorsum and even Alaïa, but LC don't promote or nurture them tactically, thus little business- a vicious cycle.

What's more revolting is that they have little taste and hardly luxury. Like the aforementioned conglomerates, the company tries very hard, sure there is tons of energy and noise, but I personally don't like wannabes, and Lane Crawford is a wannabe with no soul and taste; and trying too hard. By throwing out massive budget on advertising to project and lift themselves up to a faux international image. LC uses celebrity Asian celebrities and stars to pose for their advertisement, the outcome was extremely commercial to the point where you couldn't help but scream "Why bother?!" 'Cos behind the camera, they have some of the biggest name in the industry: Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, Luigi Murenu, Camilla Nickerson etc., but when you have Inez & Vinoodh, you don't make things like this. Plus the font looks absolutely atrocious. Then, they had the Sartorialist to capture and Kitsuné to DJ at their Peking store opening? Gee, I'm getting too personal and cynic here, it was meant to be a happy news.

Without strictly remembering from the things past and be over the top tear-jerking sentimental, I saw good news in the paper this morning. Adrienne Ma has finally set up her own business and opened an Y's Mandarina Duck of Yohji Yamamoto yesterday. She needs to start from somewhere and it's a good start. With her mother's concrete connection with the finest designers in Europe and innate taste, I look forward to Ma's success with her own empire in the foreseeing future.

The Ma's still owns JOYCE boutique shares as of today. After all, the Ma's and JOYCE boutique experienced ups and downs with Hong Kong, local fashion people and many vendors in Europe for three decades, it was an adventure and a tank of love that nothing can ever replace. I need a suitcase , I go to Moscow. Yes Moscow, the hippest European city now : I’m excited and curious ! And I want to have a very stylish luggage. As I received a Press invitation from Mandarina Duck, an Italian brand that used to be very edge at the beginning of the 90’s and today they strongly comeback, I decided to make a shopping at their show room. On my way, Boulevard Beaumarchais (between République and Bastille, and near le Marais, areas of Paris) I met the Belgium famous writer Amélie Nothomb, one of the few gifted writers able to make me laugh. I choose a very feminine light color suitcase after hesitating with a red one: that’s why I prefer doing shopping by myself. Just in case…

Quick fitting at Gaspard Yurkievich Press office, to fill my luggage with taste. Then as I’m obsessive about details, I inspect the luggage. Surprise, inside: a bag for laptop that I’ll use like a carryall to put my camera, mini DV, make-up, notes, items, oversized sunglasses and the Louis Vuitton city guide, finally I won’t use. Cause not enough time: sorry babe I worked in Moscow.

The luggage’s tops points: a compact look for maximum capacity, high quality canvas and finish. Smart detail: the laptop bag can be fixed to the suitcase (top picture). And you can also put many items in the outside pockets. And the best point for me is this super useful plastic cover could look cheap but definitely not (below). Many passengers looked at it, probably jealous! One request about damaged cover: is-it possible to buy some in Mandarina Duck shops? Of course at the Press office, they change it.

So after dragging this suitcase from Roissy to Domododevo, from Zurich to Heathrow, tested stairs, tarmac and macadam impacts, polish nails on lining… I think there are really few things to improve: the handle seems to me not strong enough for a very intense frequent use and the lining of the laptop gets quickly dirty. Otherwise well done dear Mandarina Duck !

Ed ora un prodotto "non animaletto" che mi sono regalata ieri: la cartella portadocumenti nera e porta pc 15'' di Mandarina Duck, della linea Tools in neoprene (non il saldo): morbida, leggera e super organizzata... in questo e-shop potete testare se la cartella che volete acquistare è adatta a contenere il vostro notebook, tramite la funzione "Will my laptop fit?". Il mio non ci sta, ma è tutto calcolato... medito l'acquisto di un notebook più piccolo e leggero ;-) Conosco e adoro Mandarina Duck da tantissimo tempo: portafogli, borse, zainetti, trolley... materiali di altissima qualità e praticamente industruttibili, linee dalla più classica alla sportiva, pelle e tessuti tecnici, attenzione ai dettagli e praticità. Preferisco questa marca a tutte quelle dei grandi stilisti (Gucci, Dior, D&G...); credo non ci sia proprio paragone, soprattutto nel rapporto qualità/prezzo!

Ich bin schon sehr lange unterwegs und habe einen riesigen Felsen erklommen.

Als ich oben stehe, erblicke ich eine wunderschöne Landschaft,

das so geliebte Meer,

eine prächtige Vegetation....

So gerne möchte ich dieses Paradies erreichen!

Aber ich trage einen Koffer in meiner Hand.

Wenn ich weitergehen möchte, müßte ich ein Stück hinunterklettern

und das wäre nur mit beiden Händen möglich.

Ich schaffe es nicht, den Koffer zurückzulassen,

kehre um und gehe den Weg wieder zurück.

Zwei Kinder, ein Bub und ein Mädchen begegnen mir und

erleichtern mir mit ihrer kindlichen Freude den Rückweg.

Dann erwache ich....

Am darauffolgenden Wochenende besuchte ich ein Frauenseminar. Es begann am Freitag mit einer kraftvollen Feuermeditation. Anschließend erfuhren wir mehr über den Ablauf dieses Seminars.

Es gab viele interessante Kursangebote dort: Ölmalerei, Porzellanbemalen, Stoffdruck, Sticken, Bollywood-Tanzkurs, Qi-Gong, Indischer- und Persischer Kochkurs, und das Angebot Kulturaustausch.

Ein toller Punkt war auch, daß sich jede Teilnehmerin für die Hilfe bei einer Mahlzeit auf einer Liste eintrug, und so die restliche Zeit mit gutem Gewissen genießen konnte.

Da ich nichts Manuelles machen wollte, meldete ich mich für den Kulturaustausch an. Ich war gespannt, welche Herausforderung das bedeutete.

Ein reger Kulturaustausch fand auf jeden Fall statt. Die Heimatländer unserer Seminarteilnehmerinnen waren : Dänemark, Deutschland, England, Indien, Iran, Österreich, Rumänien, Russland, Syrien, USA.....

Beim Frühstück am Samstag erzählte ich meiner Kursleiterin diesen Traum. Sie meinte gleich, daß wir daraus viel machen könnten.

Wir begannen mit zwei Teilnehmerinnen, die Anzahl wuchs kontinuierlich weiter. Zuerst versuchten wir einmal laut zu schreien, wütend zu sein, wie ein kleines Mädchen, etwas, das ich nie ausgelebt hatte. Dann wurde ein KOFFER bereitgestellt.

Unter der einfühlsamen Anleitung unserer Kursleiterin, beschäftigte sich Jede von uns auf ihre individuelle Weise mit IHREM KOFFER:

Zuerst gingen wir ein Stück, mit dem Koffer in der Hand und versuchten zu spüren.

Der Inhalt meines Koffers wurde mir unter Tränen schmerzlich bewußt. Zuerst wünschte ich mir nur, daß ich mich davon befreien kann. Aber schleßlich gelang es mir diese Belastungen, diese Überverantwortlichkeit, diese Enttäuschungen, den Frust, der sich die letzten Jahrzehnte angesammelt hatte, SOFORT LOSZULASSEN.

Eine Teilnehmerin, die ausgebildete Schauspielerin ist, führte einen Wut-Tanz auf, der uns Allen tolle Vibrationen bescherte. Wir waren nicht nur Zuseher, wir halfen mit unserer Aufmerksamkeit kräftig mit. Andere Kofferinhalte waren:

• das Brav-sein-müssen als Kind wegen eines kranken Elternteils,
• das männliche Machtgefüge im Berufsleben,
• die politische Vergangenheit Österreichs und ihre Folgen,
• die Ängste bedingt durch die Unsicherheit der Nachkriegszeit...

Am Sonntag Vormittag gab es noch die Möglichkeit, einen Gospelsong zu lernen. Die Chorleiterin reiste von England an und ich hatte so sehr das Bedürfnis, ihre Gitarre in den ersten Stock zu tragen. Das gemeinsame Singen tat gut. Jeder dichtete eine Zeile, trat vor und sang sie als Solo. Es war großartig für mich!

Wie befreit wir waren, zeigte sich nach dem Mittagessen am Sonntag. Es wurden mit Helium gefüllte Luftballons vorbereitet. An jedem dieser Ballons hing ein leerer Zettel.

Wir Frauen sahen so unbeschwert und froh wir Kinder aus, als wir uns für das Gemeinschaftsfoto zusammenstellten. Mit einem gemeinsam gesungenen Mantra entließen wir unsere Luftballons in den blauen Sommerhimmel.

Später, bei einem interessanten Gespräch, kam die richtige "Entsorgung" des Koffers zur Sprache. Einige meinten, ich hätte ihn in den Abgrund hinunterwerfen sollen. Da wurde mir die Wichtigkeit der eigenen Meisterschaft bewußt!

Nie hätte ich diese schöne, glückverheißende Landschaft mit meinem alten Koffer beschmutzen wollen!

Also schrieb ich am Montag bei der Morgenmeditation alle Inhalte und den Koffer selbst, auf kleine Zettel und verbrannte alles. Ich hatte nachher das Gefühl, daß für mich ein neuer Lebensabschnitt beginnt - eine neue Aera.

Vorige Woche kaufte ich mir eine schöne, weiße, wunderbar leichte, eher kleine Handtasche von MANDARINA DUCK - ICH MÖCHTE NIE WIEDER GROSSE SCHWERE KOFFER TRAGEN!!!

Il corporate blog è un nuovo irrununciabile strumento di comunicazione, una moda che parte dall'america, e pian piano si sta diffondendo anche in italia.

Moda in cui i manager ed i dipendenti parlano in prima persona dell'azienda e dei suoi prodotti o servizi; è importante infatti non lasciare che sia solo l’utente a parlare di un’azienda assente e passiva, ma è necessario trasformare questa situazione di fatto, in un occasione per affrontare il cliente (contento, scontento, potenziale o indeciso che sia) e per interagire con lui.

Il valore dei blog aziendali risiede nel facilitare la comunicazione con i consumatori e nell'aiutare a ottenere visibilità attraverso i motori di ricerca.

 Bhe, con mio grande stupore ho notato che, anche se ha un aspetto molto semplice (è stato creato sulla piattaforma di wordpress) ma è molto curato. Soprattutto è rilevante il fatto che è un vero e proprio diario in cui vengono raccontate quasi giornalmente informazioni ricercate e non che si parli solo ed esclusivamente dei prodotti mandarina duck!!

si possono trovare infatti postate, curiosità e tanti argomenti interessanti.

The Duck Side, questo il titolo del blog, si presenta più come blog personale che corporate. La grafica verte sul blu e l'arancio, mentre l'impaginazione è molto "template" (come ho avuto modo di notare, infatti, a fondo pagina appare la dicitura "Il Blog di Mandarina Duck è basato su piattaforma WordPress").

Per quanto riguarda i contenuti, i post sono abbastanza "sciapi", senza pepe. Si parla di eventi (gastronomici, artistici, mondiali) senza alcun riferimento alla marca e soprattutto senza quel "tocco in più" che invoglia il lettore. I blogger sono Ducky (25enne, bolognese, laureata in Comunicazione Linguistica Multimediale), Signora Valeria (assistente alla Presidenza e Direzione Generale), Massimo Venturini (Responsabile di produzione), Roberto Mineo (ufficio stile), Andrea Signori (Visual Merchandising Manager), Manuel Ranieri (buyer retail, shopping-addicted) e Roberta (Divisione Travel & Business Collection).

Navigando nelle pagine del blog scopro che il "manifesto di Duck Side" è questo:

Storie, esperienze, idee, progetti, scelte azzeccate e qualche errore. Colore, vita e allegria fuori dagli schemi. Ma soprattutto persone, teste, duro lavoro e qualche meritato sorriso a fine giornata. E poi tanto presente: il mondo che ci sta intorno, la moda, il web, come li viviamo e come influenzano il nostro quotidiano. Con un occhio al futuro, a ciò che vorremmo fare, a ciò che faremo e a ciò che non faremo mai… ma del resto è un blog, se non sogniamo qui dove altro potremmo farlo?

Ancora non riesco a capire. Più che essere un corporate blog, dove si parla dei prodotti aziendali, sembra un blog in cui i dipendenti aziendali scrivono i loro pensieri, le loro aspirazioni e ciò che gli piace fare..

..Forse un modo per rendere più "umana" l'azienda?

Ich kann manchmal schwer an Taschen vorbei gehen. In den letzten Jahren habe ich mir aber eine ausgezeichnete Selbstdisziplin in diesem Punkt angeeignet (hart wars schon - aber mein Geldbeutel dankt es mir). Gott sei Dank gehen Schuhe bei mir gar nicht (wäre sonst unbezahlbar). Aber wenn ich nicht gerade Schuhgröße 42 hätte, dann wären bei mir bestimmt auch Schuhe hip.

Ich präsentiere hier also (ja, auch ein bisschen stolz) einen Teil meiner Schätze (auf Wunsch einer ganz besonderen Person).

Vite une valise, je pars à Moscou ! Oui Moscou, la plus hype des villes européennes : j’avoue une certaine excitation, curiosité. Et je veux du style jusqu’au bout des roulettes ! Par une invitation, j’apprends le retour de Mandarina Duck, marque phare italienne début des 90. Shopping au bureau de presse. Boulevard Beaumarchais, je croise Amélie Nothomb, rares sont les auteurs qui ont le talent de me faire rire. Je choisis une valise claire, ultra féminine, hésite : voilà pourquoi je préfère faire mes shopping moi-même. Just in case...

Fitting express chez Gaspard Yurkievich presse, de quoi remplir chic la valise. Puis en grande maniaque du détail, inspection minutieuse de l’objet. Ô surprise agréable, à l’intérieur : un sac pour le portable. Qui sans sa coque en mousse amovible me servira de fourre-tout bandoulière pour l’appareil photo, la mini DV, câbles, make-up retouches, mes notes, fringues, ma paire de mouches (lunettes de soleil) et un city guide Louis Vuitton, dont je n’aurai absolument pas le temps de suivre les avis éclairés. Oui je bosse, à Moscou. 

Les tops du bagage : son look compact pour une contenance optimum, l’ergonomie, toile et finitions de qualité. Détail intelligent : le sac du portable qui se glisse sur la partie supérieure de la valise (photo ci-dessus). Des poches extérieures à soufflet, pour les achats en cours de voyage. Et surtout surtout cette housse en plastique protectrice super utilitaire qui pourrait faire cheap, mais non. Elle a intrigué plus d’un passager, sûrement des envieux. Question : usagée, peut-on en acheter une nouvelle dans les magasins Mandarina Duck ? Au bureau de presse, ils la changent. 

Bref après avoir trimbalé cette valise de Roissy à Domododevo, de Zurich à Heathrow, endurés escaliers, chocs sur le tarmac et vulgaires macadams, vernis répandu sur la doublure… Il y aurait à améliorer : le manche qui ne me paraît pas suffisamment solide sur la durée, la doublure du sac qui tâche très vite et ses velcros qui m’ont arrachée les mains. Sinon bien joué Mandarina Duck, pour votre grand retour !

Bref après avoir trimbalé cette valise de Roissy à Domododevo, de Zurich à Heathrow, endurés escaliers, chocs sur le tarmac et vulgaires macadams, vernis répandu sur la doublure… Il y aurait à améliorer : le manche qui ne me paraît pas suffisamment solide sur la durée, la doublure du sac qui tâche très vite et ses velcros qui m’ont arrachée les mains. Sinon bien joué Mandarina Duck, pour votre grand retour !

En bonus : juste pour le plaisir et la beauté du geste, cliché d’une amie aux prises avec le monstre, sa valise x… qui refuse obstinément de fermer dans l'éminence du départ ! Quel fou rire !
