Did anyone see the Happening? Yeah, me neither. But, for some reason Mark Walhberg is under the impression he can afford to take himself waaaay too seriously. According to Perez Hilton he didn’t find Saturday Night Live’s spoof of him funny. Well, Mark I don’t find any of your movies good, so there.

Someone showed it to me on YouTube. It wasn't like Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, that's for sure. And "Saturday Night Live" hasn't been funny for a long time. They've asked me to do the show a ton of times. I used to watch it when Eddie Murphy was there and Joe Piscopo and Bill Murray. I don't even know who's on the show now.

OK, so lately and thanks mostly because of the Sarah Palin media blitz, Saturday Night Live has actually been watchable for the first time in close to a decade. One of the halfway decent skits put out in a long time is 'Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals', which you can view HERE.

Sure, it's nowhere near being a classic but it made me chuckle and that is more than SNL has done for me in a long time. Well, how does this serious actor who once led the revolution of white rappers feel about it? Well, duh...he hates it (link).

Oh, and if anyone is dying to get their hands on a Marky Mark autograph, you can pick up this mess for under $50 dollars. I suggest you save your hard-earned money and instead watch some classic MTV goodness in the form of Marky Mark's biggest (and only) hit, Good Vibrations.

Looks like the former Rock Star wasn't to thrilled about SNL's skit. From The Huffington Post:

"Mark Wahlberg is not a fan of a "Saturday Night Live" sketch from October 4th called "Mark Wahlberg Talks To Animals"

The first problem I had with M Night Shyamalan's The Happening, is the hideously sickly niceness embedded throughout. I've never seen Mark Wahlberg playing this nice before and witnessing the heinous niceities between him and love interest Zooey Descahnel is enough to make your granny vomit from an OD of putridniceness (new word that I just invented #1). So contrast this with Wahlberg's foul-mouthed streetwise arrogant character portayal in Scorsese's The Departed and you'll certainly have two poles in different worlds. However when Wahlberg plays to type in the aforementioned role and similar, we can buy into it, whereas this attempt to rub up against the grain cannot go without criticism... he's awful, but not that it's his fault, The Happening's core performances are smothered in this 'putridniceness'. The brief relationship between weedy bookish nerd John Leguizamo (again against type) and his young daughter is poisonously hideous. Shyamalan seems to have suckered himself in to the naffest form of Hollywood schmaltz we will ever see and it's always a laugh to see this kind of collossal miscasting (see Cassandra's Dream review below). So what's it all about then? Basically, there's somethin in the wind that makes everyone top themselves cos the plants are gettin pissed off cos we aint diggin the planet as much as they is and that if we don't love each other enuffs then we is totally gonna get killed and that. Comical stuff. Wahlberg and co make a run for it and lots of folk die... but not very well... in fact the version I viewed apparently included extra footage rated 'too shocking for theatres'. The only shocking thing about it being the film was still only 86 minutes long! Ludicrous plot then. What else? How about the hideous direlogue... Shamalan seems to have come to the idea that the title of a film must be repeated constantly and without necessity at least every other scene and so we're forced to endure looping phrases such as 'What is Happening here?' and Alan Ruck (better known as Cameron in John Hughes' Ferris Bueler's Day Off) pops up in a cameo to state... 'There appears to be an event 'happening'... and then buggers off back into obscurity. Spasmological. To sum up I need to take your mind back to old TV shows and B movie thrillers from bygone days where at a pivotal moment in a key scene something 'bad' looks set to occur and the protagonist attempts to intercede with the monotone 'Nooooooooo' drawl as the timeframe slows down to capture the vital seconds. Got it? Cliched and parodied to death for decades, yet Shamalan throws one in The Happening as if it's a brand new concept!!!

Nos Estados Unidos o herói saído dos videogames chega aos cinemas na próxima semana.

Este é o quarto longa dirigido por John Moore – que aparece ao lado de Mark Wahlberg na foto de cima à esquerda – e o terceiro que ele realiza para a Fox. Na foto da direita, o ator porto-riqueno Amaury Nolasco interpreta o traficante Jack Lupino.

The Happening

Im Central Park von New York wird ein Nervengas freigesetzt, dass den Selbsterhaltungstrieb des Menschen blockiert und ihn dazu veranlasst sich umzubringen. Hunderte New Yorker, die nun nur noch den Suizid im Kopf haben, stürzen sich von Dächern, erschießen, erstechen oder erhängen sich. Man geht von einem terroristischen Gasangriff aus.

Als die schreckliche Nachricht die Runde macht, werden die Schulen der Stadt evakuiert. Zu den Lehrern, die ihre Schüler nach Hause schicken müssen, gehören auch Biologielehrer Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg, The Italian Job, Shooter), und sein Freund Julian (John Leguizamo, Romeo+Julia, Moulin Rouge), der Mathematik lehrt. Die beiden beschließen, gemeinsam mit ihren Frauen und Julians Tochter Jess (Ashlyn Sanchez), zu Julians Mutter zu fahren. Elliot holt seine apathisch wirkende Frau Alma (Zooey Deschanel) zu Hause ab und am Bahnhof treffen sie auf Julian und Jess. Julians Frau ist zu spät dran und will den nächsten Zug nehmen.

Auf der Reise wird immer mehr Leuten über Handy von gleichen Vorfällen in anderen Städten berichtet. Vornehmlich in Parks wird überall im Nordosten der USA Gas freigesetzt. Der Zug hält in einem kleinen Kaff an und alle müssen aussteigen. Während Julian per Anhalter seine Frau holen fährt, die in einen Bus nach Princeton gestiegen ist, kommen Elliot, Alma und Jess bei einem Ehepaar (Frank Collison (Last Boy Scout, The Village) & Victoria Clark) im Auto unter, die sie nach Westen mitnehmen. Der Mann hat eine Baumschule und ein Gewächshaus und stellt die Theorie auf, dass das Gas nicht von Menschen freigesetzt wurde, sondern von Pflanzen...
...

Wie I Am Legend lebt auch The Happening von seinem Hauptdarsteller - in diesem Fall von Mark Wahlberg. Bei dem Drehbuch von M. Night Shyamalan konnte er allerdings nicht mehr viel (aus)richten. Überhaupt sind alle vorkommenden Personen irgendwie komisch. Zooey Deschanels Rolle ist zu naiv und zu abwesend und obwohl die dunkelhaarige Blauäugige das schon von Natur aus verkörpert, passt das alles nicht zusammen. John Leguizamo, der hier nicht wie in Romeo+Julia den Schönling mimt, sondern den Matheprofessor mit Nasenfahrrad gibt, ist ebenfalls merkwürdig und seine verwirrende Äußerung "Alma solle seine Tochter nicht anfassen, würde sie es nicht so meinen" bleibt bis zum Schluss ohne Erklärung: eben einfach verrückt. Die On-Screen-Time von Frank Collison hätte gerne länger ausfallen können, denn der Man strahlt neben seiner Extravaganz wenigstens Charakter aus, sogar obwohl er hier teils etwas dümmlich rüberkommt. Die Performance von Ashlyn Sanchez ist in Ordnung, aber zu aufgesetzt: ein neues Glanzlicht unter den sehr jungen Darstellern ist sie nicht.

Der Film hat sich die Aufgabe gestellt, dem Zuschauer Angst vor genmutierten Pflanzen zu machen, was allerdings nicht gelingt. Im Prinzip ist es natürlich schon bedrückend durch freies Feld voll mit Gräsern, Büschen, Bäumen und Sträuchern zu laufen, wenn man weiß, dass das ganze Grünzeug einen jederzeit durch die Freisetzung von Nervengas umbringen könnte, aber irgendwie haben die Macher es doch tatsächlich geschafft diese Spannung wieder abzubauen. Als Stilmittel wurde hier der Wind eingesetzt, der über Gras und Getreide weht: quasi als Detektor für humane Impulse. Nur: was hat der Wind mit den Pflanzen am Hut? Büsche können mit Gras kommunizieren... naja... vielleicht; O.K. ... aber Pflanzen mit dem Wind? Egal, jedenfalls ist das irgendwie unlogisch und zu mysteriös für das wissenschaftliche Problem.

Dass die beiden Jungs, die mit Elliot, Alma und Jess auf der Flucht sind, auf einmal total ausrasten ist absolut unerklärlich, um so klarer ist dem Zuschauer hingegen, dass sie deshalb sterben. Hier scheint es fast so, als hätte der Autor und Regisseur krampfhaft nach etwas derartigem gesucht, nichts gefunden und daher etwas Herkömmliches eingeschustert, das hier unpassend und deplatziert wirkt.

Die Story um Mrs. Jones (Betty Buckley, Frantic), die verrückte alte Schachtel, wirkt ebenfalls erzwungen. Sie hat zwar einige wenige Aufschreck-Momente, ist aber doch nicht das Gelbe vom Ei, zu verrückt und fehl am Platz. Fremde Leute zum Essen einladen, Jess schlagen, nichts mit der Welt zu tun haben wollen, Paranoia: das ist alles ein Kuddelmuddel und too much.

Schließlich ist da dann noch die Schmalzgeschichte zwischen den Moores, welche ebenfalls sehr merkwürdig ist: Stimmungsringe, ein Naivchen, das ihren Mann wegen einer Nachspeise anlügt und sich dann wochenlang dafür schämt: watt? Schon wieder zu viel und zu komisch und zu blöd und dann gestehen sie sich ihre Liebe auch noch durch ein Sprahrohr und setzen ihre Leben sowie das eines unschuldigen Mädchens aufs Spiel, um zusammen zu sterben. Oh Wunder, am Ende leben sie dann sogar zusammen: Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen!

Nach Kurzer Zeit erreicht der Film einen Punkt, an dem das Interessante für den Zuschauen darin besteht zu sehen, auf welche Arten und Weisen die Menschen Selbstmord begehen und das kann eigentlich nicht Sinn und Zweck des Streifens sein. M. Night Shyamalan sollte man dann doch lieber mit The Sixth Sense im Gedächnis behalten, als mit The Hapening, der nur
5/10 Punkten

erreichen kann.

" The Happening" was a movie that was very interesting. It dealt with people. It showed how people were jealous. It showed what people do for love. It shows you the strength of friendship. It shows you how people come together in a disaster, as well as against each other. It makes you try to understand and make sense of a situation that people are in that makes NO SENSE at all! It has people dying left and right. People are doing some pretty weird stuff! The facial expressions of the actors are STRANGE! It makes you start getting a respect for nature and what is in it. Ok to watch, I guess. Kind of suspenseful.People get killed and die in very strange ways! Yuk!

Yummylicious Mark Wahlberg was on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" last night to promote his latest film, "Max Payne." He chats about his new baby boy Brendan Joseph, losing his voice, moving, getting married so "quickly," and growing up with 9 brothers and sisters!

Marky Mark seems so embarrased about his brother Donnie re-joining the New Kids on the Block! He said there is no way he will be re-joining Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. eh....who cares? He looks much better now!

Went and saw Body of Lies last night, that new Ridley Scott terror flick, and I thought it was pretty good, though I still find it hard to watch any mainstream Western film on the subject...

We Own the Night has Marky Mark and Joaquin, which ain't no bad thing, but the film itself is a little on the tedious, trying-to-be heavyweight side, despite action sequences that are nuanced with unexpected and excellent details - apparently Michael Madsen walked out of a screening feeling the film was pretending to be something it wasn't...

Eliot Moore ist Lehrer und verheiratet. Seine Ehe steckt zwar durch seine etwas merkwürdige Frau Alma ein wenig in der Krise, aber dennoch geht alles seinen normalen Weg, bis seltsame Dinge geschehen und Menschen plötzlich reihenweise und scheinbar aus heiterem Himmel Suizid begehen. Unter diesen Bedingungen müssen alle stark zusammenhalten und sich auf die Flucht begeben. Der Kampf ums Überleben beginnt.

Ich weiß nicht ob dieser Film eine versteckte Botschaft haben soll? Auf jeden Fall ist es sehr riskant eine Botschaft hinter 90 Minuten pure Langeweile zu verstecken, denn sollte der Film eine haben, ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit groß das man sie aufgrund plötzlich eintretenden Tiefschlafs nicht mehr wahrnimmt.
Der Film ist, ich kann es nicht anders sagen, einfach nur schlecht. Er ist langweilig, er hat keine Höhepunkte ...und was mindestens genauso schlimm ist: er hat nicht einmal einen Tiefpunkt.

Só pelos trailers divulgados e pelo ótimo site oficial que entrou no ar esta semana, fica claro (bem... neste caso, fica escuro...) que Max Payne é um filme imperdível para os fãs do gênero. O diretor John Moore, que também realizou Atrás das Linhas Inimigas, trouxe para esta produção saída dos videogames, ação explosiva, um estilo dark com um visual bem moderninho. Estrelado por Mark Wahlberg, Chris O'Donnell, Beau Bridges, o filme conta a história de um policial que perde a família tragicamente e passa a ser perseguido pela polícia, pela máfia e por uma misteriosa organização, depois de cair numa armadilha. Nos Estados Unidos, Max Payne estréia no próximo dia 17.
