Kemaren baru download Centos 5.1 64 bit. Tapi curiga file ISOnya corrupt. Bagaimana caranya? Caranya :

#md5sum file.iso > file.iso.md5

#umount /dev/cdrom

#dd if=/dev/cdrom of=file.iso bs=1024

Okay.

Ubuntu's Feisty was so wildly popular that it hammered Canonical servers for 36 hours. Despite the fact that they'd probably anticipated a huge rush. Which means it was bigger than expected.

Worst hit was probably Xubuntu, who have the least priority in arranging mirrors, and their official mirrors list is still not posted.

<strike>Download from canonical</strike> [http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/feisty/release/ <--server hammered. Wait for 36 more hours.].

<strike>Try the ubuntu torrent server</strike> [http://torrent.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/feisty/release/ <--server hammered. Wait for 36 more hours.]
[don't ask me why they have a copy of the iso sitting right in the open]

Here's a list of mirrors I believe have Xubuntu Feisty

http://ftp.cw.net/xubuntu/releases/

http://ubuntu-cdimage.datahop.it/xubuntu

http://neacm.fe.up.pt/pub/xubuntu/releases/

http://ubuntu.ipacct.com/xubuntu/feisty/release/

I'm picking up the Xubuntu alternate install [which is the one to take if your computer has between 64 and 192 mb ram] for Rohit [data limits on broadband], in addition to the Ubuntu "desktop"... both for i386. The difference is that "desktop" = Live CD + install, while "alternate"= install cd only.

Got Ubuntu, can't get Xubuntu but you have only a low RAM 'puter? Worry not!

Here's help.

Got the download but something's not right?

Did it download correctly? Check the MD5 checksum of the downloaded iso!

Checksum - the result of a pre-defined series of mathematical operations on the bitstream or the bytestream that comprises a file or a message.

MD5 - a very famous algorithm for calculating checksums.

You'll need to find a utility for your own OS to calculate the checksum of the iso file.

I use Johny Mattsson's SummerProperties... install it, right click on the file you want to find the checksum of, you'll find a new tab. There it is. If the "MD5" is "disabled", use "configure" to enable it.

Why I'm hating BSES and Airtel.

Airtel is messing with my torrents. They keep dropping speed and mucking packets up. It may or may not be them, but I don't have anything else to blame for 7 kbps average speeds.

BSES keeps doing some stupid switching thing [the voltage drops abnormally for a fraction of a second I think, but I'll need a very sharp data logger with a voltmeter to be certain... hmm] which my UPS adapts to, but my computer' SMPS gives up and switches off, while the DSL router [on mains] resets and goes into a race-around while "connecting to internet".

All this means that I'll have had spent around 6 hours more for doing this than expected, myhardware [especially the ageing HDDs] will be taking a bad hit, and the downloads might become corrupted.

Edit: My Xubuntu iso shows a different MD5. Let's see what's wrong.

Edit 2: All the mirrors are going below 500 BYTES per sec if I try a redownload.
My checksums are

CRC16: 7077
CRC32: F024E598
MD5: F2739E318AE025E925B9BBF87EAE1114
SHA1: 8AD8C57178A869E81C0BE29F77B83CA0DC0EA742

If anyone else has the same ones (dot dot dot)
