Tom Cruise Dissed By Paramount Over Mission Impossible 4 (M:I4)

TOM CRUISE has been dissed by his former BFF’s, the movie studio PARAMOUNT [Website - TheLostG

TOM CRUISE has been dissed by his former BFF's, the movie studio PARAMOUNT [Website - TheLostGirl’s Blog].

Apparently, the studio is not particularly interested in having CRUISE spank some more arses and thwart bad guys (while wearing evening attire), all in the name of solving a totally incomprehensible and seemingly impossible mission.

CRUISE was the star of all the previous 'Mission Impossible's'. Therefore, it seems pretty weird that he is being swapped out at this late stage.

His people approached PARAMOUNT about the project, as they were interested in going into production and were told CRUISE could return, not as a star, but (as a courtesy) a producer only!

Paramount’s response was to ask whether Cruise would like to produce the film—as in, produce but not star in. And, since he’s contractually guaranteed the right to produce such a film at this point, it wasn’t much of an offer. This tells us not to read too much into that supposed rapprochement between Cruise and Sumner Redstone. And it suggests that the fighting between Cruise and Paramount studio chief Brad Grey over the deal for M:I3 was a lot more rancorous than we knew at the time.

We don’t want to keep you in suspense: Cruise’s answer was no. Our source tells us that Paramount met this with a shrug, since in the not-too-distant future the studio expects that it will be free, contractually, to make the movie without involving Cruise’s production company. Some film executives say they think Paramount is being foolish, because they believe there is an avid audience for Cruise in this role. After all, the last one grossed about $400 million worldwide. (Maybe M:I4 could pair Cruise with Shia LaBoeuf as the young successor.) But Paramount seems to think it could relaunch the franchise with a young star and leave Cruise out of the equation.

1 - I am fairly sure that if I have this pillow, I will finally fulfill my dream of becoming smarter

1 - I am fairly sure that if I have this pillow, I will finally fulfill my dream of becoming smarter while I sleep. Side effects might include dreaming only in binary code and an unhealthy addiction to fractal imagery. [via JoshSpear]

2 - The broadway collaboration of John Mellencamp and Stephen King, Ghost Brothers, has been postponed to give the show more time to get ready for it's initial run in Atlanta. Not a bad idea since Stephen King hardly gets a fair shake when he tries to step outside of his horror writing genre. [via lilja's library]

3 - Is there anything left to get Tom Cruise back on the top again? Well, the normal procedure at this point is to go back to what worked in the past, so now we have started hearing rumors of a possible Mission Impossible 4. Not necessarily a terrible idea, but I think there is going to have to be more changes in the public life of Mr. Cruise to get him back inside the good graces of the movie going public. First step, try not being crazy. Everything else will fall in line after that. [via Variety]

4 - Here's a marketing strategy that is clearly a sign of the times. Chrysler is offering with the sale of their new cars a charge card you can use to buy gas for the next three years at the locked in price of $2.99. Chrysler will pay the difference between that and whatever the current pain at the pump is. If prices reach the inflated $5-$8 per gallon some people are fearing, this car company could rule the world. [via CNN]

5 - I can't think of a time in my life when I have seen an actor so clearly begging for people to remember how good he used to be. Tom Cruise has launched his own personal website that includes a ten minute long montage of some of the greatest hits from his previous movies. I give credit where it's due and the montage shows some amazing stuff, but since when does a multi-million dollar superstar actor have to put his demo-reel online for people to see again? A restart is needed for Cruise, but I don't think this was the right move to make. [via The Superficial]

6 - Think you know every different couch gag they have done in the opening of The Simpsons? I seriously doubt it, well, unless you are the living version of the Comic Book Guy from the show, then maybe. Here's your way to test it out with a video of every couch gag ever! [via Today's Big Thing]

7 - Count how many seconds it takes you to figure out what is different about this Japanese massage chair. [via GorillaMask via Japanprobe]

9 - Here is a really cool photographic experiment where people send in a shot of whatever they are doing at exactly 10:15am. Putting these photos together you can really start to feel an interconnected nature in our race, the fact that it is always 10:15am somewhere and we can embrace our similarities and celebrate our differences. Now all I need is a digital camera that I won't lose after only a few months...[via JoshSpear]

10 - Could it really be true? Could Ryan Seacrest be finding a life beyond American Idol? The industry folks are gabbing about his possible nomination to take over Larry King's show once they finally admit that Larry King has been dead for 14 years and get a new host. I swear I saw dust billowing out of his mouth during his last interview. [via Perez Hilton]

Here you see the third stage of the physical trials that you must pass in order to become an Eighth Level Alien-Sega-Master-Melmac-Leader in the Church of Scientology. Obviously, Tom Cruise easily passed this test since he has moved on to Level Fourteen which is the Ten Million Dollar Donator Hubbard-Remulak level. He is only one step away from getting to have lunch with alien leader Xenu. How awesome is that?

Oh...Tom Cruise may star in another "Mission: Impossible" movie.

Summer Redstone who is a entertainment mogul, and also the chairman and controlling shareholder of Viacom and CBS corp is actually giving actor Tom Cruise permission to star in "Mission Impossible 4" if Paramount Pictures is up for it. Paramount Pictures banned Tom Cruise from filming movies with the company due to his never ending media frenzy creating controversy in the news.

While Redstone gave the ok to Cruise starring in Mission Impossible 4 it is still all up for Paramount Pictures who still owns the series.

Yahoo movies reports:

http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/ap/20080506/121008240000.html

Paramount should do what's right and not lift his ban from filming movies. The dude deserves no place in Hollywood and no one cares for Tom Cruise anymore.

We used to love him back in the 80's and the early 90's when he was great, but today he is such a douchebag.

Seriously though, who's going to pay to see that?

Last night Manfrengensen and I finally watched 3:10 to Yuma. I didn't get it, though I am not a huge fan of the western genre. Manfrengensen said he liked it until the final scene, when he thought it fell apart. Anyway, about a third of the way into it, I asked aloud, "Who directed this?" and at the end of the film, the credits told us: James Mangold (of Copland and Identity fame.) Manfrengensen quipped, "Yeah, as in 'Mangold' the third act." He's punny that way.

I promised him I would attribute that line to him, not that I had originally planned to write about it here, but his vehement defense of intellectual property made me bring it up. He likes to think that I steal all his best lines because one time he overheard me telling my boss one of his jokes. I think it was the one about the movie The Devil's Own. Do you remember that one with Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford? Manfrengensen had said at the time that Brad Pitt's accent was "about as Irish as Mayor McCheese."

More about Iron Man: I am sure you have heard by now that Marvel plans to bring out the sequel on April 30, 2010. And there's a whole slough of other superhero movies coming from Marvel as well including Thor, Captain America and The Avengers. Tony Stark's got a cameo in the upcoming Incredible Hulk movie and there's talk of Bruce Banner showing up in the Iron Man sequel. Fanboys everywhere must be so excited!

Ugh-I just read that Tom Cruise is in talks with Paramount to make Mission Impossible 4. Is that necessary? Seriously. Please. Don't. I don't have a problem with Tom Cruise, but I do have a problem with movies that stink. Didn't Mission Impossible 3 suck enough? I can't say that it was the worst movie ever, but it's definitely in the running.
