The classic punk bands for example remain relevent. There is always someone who wants to stick it to whatever 'man' is in power, and for them, the music rings as true today as when influential bands like The Clash, Dead Kennedys, The Stooges and The Sex Pistols came to prominence.

Metal is metal is metal is metal. A kick ass riff or mind numbing ear bleedingly great guitar solo is always awesome - wether is was wailed out by Deep Purple or Motorhead back in the day or by Lamb of God or Killswitch Engage last week.

Funk, Soul, Motown and the great girl groups from the 60's and 70's are always idolised by those who perform under the Urban and R&B banners today. Idolised - and rarely matched. By the way, don't get me started on R&B (if its not BB King or Muddy Waters singing about how his girl and his dog up and left him for another man - it aint R&B)!!

Great music is always great. Their albums sell consistently. Pop music inflates like bubblegum, getting bigger and bigger before bursting with a 'pop,' never to be big again. Pop is interchangable and produces more one hit wonders than any other genre. No I will not provide evidence - the fact that I can barely remember the rubbish Im attempting to attack is evidence enough that pop is pretty forgettable.

All you have to do is go into your friendly neighbourhood record store and look for 25th anniversary or even 10th anniversary editions of classic albums. Not greatest hits mind you - any idiot can put out a greatest hits compilation after two albums. Anniversary editions of albums, to me, suggest that the music contained therein is as relevent and wonderful today as it was when it was released. 
Michael Jackson, Weezer, NWA, Jeff Buckley, Dead Kennedys, Meatloaf and many more. The music has endured. It may not be your exact cup of tea - but you gotta respect its longevity.

As well as Mudhoney (with my buddy Mark), I will be attending the Metal Masters tour, featuring Testament, Heaven And Hell, Motorhead and Judas Priest.

This summer is going to fucking rock!

From start to finish, the album is the sonic embodiment of everything your parents warned you about; it's dangerous, vile, violent, primal, loud and fast... and these all coalesce to make it a wild ride in the classic roadhouse-at-last-call way. Stone Dead puts Wilson front-and-center vocally and on guitar (the sound seems turned up a couple of notches on these relative to the other instruments), and he doesn't disappoint. The vocals fit the classic metal singer style of the aforementioned frontmen--short on range, long on ferocity--and the riffs and solos (remember what those are?!) are spot-on. Additionally, while old-school metal was feared by the mainstream (shout out to Tipper Gore and the PMRC) for being somehow satanic, the Thirds' lyrics openly embrace The Dark Lord in a big bro pat while flipping the Christian right off with their free hand. It will likely upset some, but the real point connects resoundingly: Rock music, and especially metal, needs its element of danger back. It's the best mojo the genre ever had, and the Stainds of the world replaced it with woe-is-me mopiness and a sea of unlistenable midtempo ballads. Stone Dead stands as the Thirds' hellbent counterpoint. If he knew of it, Lemmy would probably raise a drink to that.

Ele é um conhecido colecionador de símbolos da doutrina hitlerista e ostenta uma cruz de ferro cravada em seu baixo, mas jura de pés juntos que, apesar de gostar do estilo das roupas do regime nazista e da forma como os símbolos são construídos, não tem nenhuma simpatia pelo nazismo. A banda, que se consagrou com os discos Overkill, de 1979, e Ace Of Spades, gravado um ano depois, lança um novo trabalho com 11 músicas, entitulado “Motörizer”, no primeiro dia de setembro deste ano.

Confrontado pela publicação New York Waste, o rapaz respondeu o seguinte (incrível a resposta!):

Eu vou dizer uma coisa sobre História. No começo dos tempos, os caras maus sempre tinham os melhores uniformes. Napoleão, os exércitos confederados, os nazistas. Todos eles tinham uniformes matadores. Porra, o uniforme do exército nazista é brilhante! Eles eram as estrelas do rock do tempo deles. O que você vai fazer? Eles simplesmente tinham boas roupas. Não me diga que eu sou um nazista porque eu tenho uniformes. Em 1967 eu tive minha primeira namorada negra e várias outras desde então. Eu não entendo racismo e nunca acreditei que isso foi uma opção.

Além do Motörhead, o público do Wacken teve a oportunidade de assistir shows das bandas Saxon e Machine Head. A equipe do Subsom está no aguardo para ver Lemmy usando uma roupa de PM numa próxima apresentação no Brasil. Ou quem sabe do Bush.

Lemmy who claims he's not a rascist much less a fascist, and doesn't condone either whatsoever, loves to rock the fascist fashion because he thinks it "looks good." He also admits he has an affinity for collecting uniforms from all the Axis countries.

Whether or not Lemmy actually lands in a German jail over his fascist fashion choice is still to be determined. Either way, his band Motorhead have a new album coming out August 26.

Now you all know I’m a Mustang addict, there’s nothing I would like to have more than a Mustang and cruise the country with it. I’m not too sure about a Mustang cruise though. And that’s exactly what Catch A Wave Productions (in collaboration with Mustang Club of America and others) is organizing… for the second time nevertheless.

I must admit, apart from missing the link between a spending time at see on a boat to celebrate your love for a car, I’m just not such a big fan of cruises to begin with. This done, I Skyped about for a bit, tried and failed to get at some of the stuff on iPlayer, then went to print my essay in the Robarts Library on St George Street. Complicated doesn't really begin to describe it - a more intricate series of inputting of passwords, running between computers and inserting of cards I have never had to deal with. At the end of it, though, I had a hard copy I can hand to my lecturer on Tuesday in class. On the way back, I listened to the songs I'd added to my MP3 player just beforehand, including the Ghostbusters theme-tune (a bop classic) and my new favourite song, Motörhead's The Game (yes, not the refined Classical fare with which I'm usually associated, but still), and got really annoyed with my headphones for the third time in as many days - the wires must have got damaged in some way, because one of the earpieces keeps randomly cutting out, leaving me with a rather fragmented rendition of whatever I'm listening to. I have no idea where to get some new ones here, but when I find some, I will buy them... Once back, I chatted extensively to Francesca K about all manner of extraneous things, including Winnie-the-Pooh and the relative merits of red shirts, watched some Hearts of Iron 2 videos on YouTube (which mostly had random historical anomalies like socialist Finland conquering fascist Greece and suchlike), and am now wistfully eyeing the five-in-one su doku that's left for me to do from Saturday's newspaper.

On a separate note, I Googled the lyrics to The Game, and amusingly they serve as very good advice on university exam technique! Observe:

To explain: the 'game' is the exam rigmarole, which one must 'play' or hoop-jump to be successful; 'control' is the sum of knowledge required for the exam, and 'taking' it refers to the revision one needs to put in; the 'debt' is a subtle reminder that we're all on student loans, and 'paying' it implies that only by achieving good results can we get a job that drags us out of debt; the 'pain' is flipping obvious because work isn't all easy going, and 'making' it is equally self-explanatory. There - who said heavy metal isn't motivational...

With the All-Star game this week, fantasy baseball heads into a short week with a smidge of games Thursday followed by three days of a normal schedule. In honor of the shotened week, The Jon is going to chill on The Jon's Monday Morning Diatribe and keep it short. It reeks of "a video history" combined with "which baseball star are you" around here. So here it is.

First up is the Jon with Ice Cube back when he was good with Dead Homiez. The title is The Jon's team with something like four straight losses and a current 7th or 8th place standing. This is nothing new. The Jon's teams are always a trial in patience. It still sucks, and The Jon might not look at fantasy baseball for a couple of weeks.

Newspaperman: Hannah Montana

As much as we all bag on Newspaperman, he still delivers. Knocking The Jon out of playoff contention can do that. But the guy still is a herb. He is a Disney movie and lives all the values in it. But hey, those movies are successful and no matter how much everyone wants to make Miley Cyrus a porn star, she still gets paid. Same with Newspaperman, all David Wright and Grady Sizemore crushes aside.

The Oz: John Legend

John Legend is tight ... for a guy who makes whipped music. The Oz has built a good team and is a contender after years of being a bottom feeder.

But he is still whipped.

And has written the least on this site.

He is busy writing poetry and crying while making mix tapes ... or is it CDs now ... for his wife.

Lemmy Kilmister, vocalista dos Motörhead e figura lendária da música "heavy metal", apareceu numa publicação alemã com uma boina das Waffen SS, tropa do regime de Adolf Hitler. O artigo, dedicado a um festival de rock, continha uma reportagem sobre a banda britânica, onde aparece a fotografia polémica.

As autoridades da pequena vila de Aurich já iniciaram um processo de investigação, embora não haja ainda qualquer queixa formal contra Lemmy. A propaganda nazi, proibida pela Constituição da Alemanha, pode originar penas de entre três meses a vários anos, dependendo da gravidade do delito.

Lemmy nunca escondeu possuir uniformes, boinas e outros artefactos do regime nazi. Em entrevista ao "New York Waste", o vocalista falou sobre o artigo em causa: "É um brilhante uniforme das SS. O que vou fazer? Sou nazi porque tenho uniformes?", disse.

"Não colecciono apenas coisas dos nazis, mas também de todos os países do Eixo. Incluindo aqueles que pertenciam ao Eixo e depois deixaram de ser falados, como a Lituânia, a Letónia, a Finlândia e a Hungria", acrescentou Lemmy.

It is a against the law to wear Nazi symbolism in Germany (for good reason), leading to a felony or years in the clink. When one Lemmy Kilmister wore a S.S. cap for a German photo shoot, the European press went bonkers. And, needless to say, the Motorhead legend is under criminal investigation in the Fatherland.

Lemmy saw it as merely a fashion preference. Nothing political:

Son a los que me gustaria ir, porque tambien hay bustamante, d´nash y esas historias pero bueno. Aver si esta guapo el de Frank Sinatra. Decir que el de Motorhead uno ha sido gratis para los de Barakaldo (unos cuantos afortunados) y el otro sera pagando, ambos en rock star.

Los Delinquentes en 7 meses es la tercera vez que tocan en Barakaldo, habrá gente por ser gratuito, ya que las otras dos veces fue de pago en la rock star, pero no se quien gestiona esto de los conciertos para elegir tan mal ciertas actuaciones, y no me refiero en este caso al grupo en si, que esta bien, sino a la citada asiduidad que ha tenido y que puede estar muy visto, aunque de los Delinquentes no se cansa uno tan fácil.

Si que es curiosa la afición del ayuntamiento de traer "bandas" tipo bustamante y cia que exigen un cache desmesurado con su espectaculo de bailarinas piruetas y chorradas subproducto de O.T. Para que luego hable el consistorio de apoyo a bandas locales, y haga un sucio concurso que no sirve DE NADA.
