Providing a newsletter for your opt-in list subscribers provides many benefits in terms of driving traffic into your site as well as boosting the sales and profits of your site and company. This is a marketing ploy that will not hugely dent your marketing budget and will not also require many man-hours in developing this project.

With a newsletter, you can inform the public about your company and products as well as services. You can keep them posted and updated about what’s going-on with your company as well as many of your promotions and offerings. With these, you keep on reminding your subscribers that you are still here and is willing to offer them good deals and services.

Newsletters also allow you to impress your subscribers. It can show your expertise and knowledge about the topic at hand and the many benefits you can offer them. When you impress people, they will become potential customers and another great thing is that they can recommend you to their friends, colleagues and family. All of them could very well be customers in the future.

If you do not have a newsletter or publishing one for your site, then you may have to consider about researching and be well informed on how to publish one. It is not as easy as it seems but if and when you get the right idea and process, it will be smooth sailing from there on. Try to take the time to learn what you need to learn and get that newsletter ready and good to attract subscribers to your newsletter as well as traffic to your site.

In the next few paragraphs, I will provide you with some things to reflect on when you decide to start your own newsletter for your site. Here are five things to consider when publishing a newsletter.

1) Make sure that the content of your newsletter pertains to and closely associated with your business or the theme of your site. Do not dwell too far on what could be regarded as your field of expertise. You have started a site and your theme for your site will always be something you are knowledgeable about. For example; if you have a site that sells auto car parts, your newsletter must contain articles or content like photos that pertain to cars, auto parts and such. You may also include content about your company and your staff.

Remember that visitors of a certain site are there because they are interested in what the site has to offer. If they sign up for an opt-in list or for a newsletter this means that they want to be updated for that certain theme or subject. Be sure that when you publish your newsletter you are providing for the need of the subscriber as well as their interests.

2) Ensure that you have well written, information riddled and content rich articles. You articles will be the body of your newsletter and that they should be able to excite your readers as well as provide information. Articles should be well written and checked for errors such as spelling and grammatical errors for it to look professional and believable. The trust of your client to you and newsletter is at stake here.

3) Fact-check your articles. Make sure that you provide true facts and figures so that your reputation as an expert and knowledgeable in that field is not questioned. If you lose the trust of your subscribers these may persuade them to unsubscribe to your newsletter. You will lose many potential sales this way.

4) Provide fresh and new articles that can provide new information to your subscribers. If you publish stale and old news in your newsletter, there is a tendency that people or your subscribers already have read and known about them. This will lose their interest in your newsletter and they wont get to read what is most important, your ads. They may not open or read any of your succeeding newsletters losing your intention in writing and publishing newsletters, to get them to visit your site and make a purchase.

5) Never use copyrighted materials such as photos and articles. This is outright plagiarism, you may get into a lot of trouble for this. You can lose your business and get sued over copyright infringement. If you do not have the time to write your own articles, there are many willing and able professional article writers that can do it for you for a reasonable fee. All your investment in writing and publishing articles will be well worth it when you see your list build up and your traffic increasing.

In Part 1 of “How to get great answers” we talked about doing research before asking your questions to draw out the best answers. This month we’ll talk about how you ask your questions. Here are five tips for getting a great interview. 8th gr grad BZ crop.jpg

Tip 1: Ask essay questions, not multiple choice or fill-in-the-blank. Better than asking, “Did you like school?” or “Were you a good student?”, ask:

• What was elementary school like for you?
• What stories do you remember from high school?
• What sort of student were you?
• What did you do after school?
• How did you and your family spend your summers?

Tip 2: Like a good investigative reporter, ask follow-up questions if you sense there might be more – more detail, more emotion, more complexity. The trick is to keep the follow-up question in your head while you wait for your subject to finish answering. Don’t jump in too soon or you’ll step on their answer!

Tip 3: Don’t be afraid of pauses. If you have asked a question and your subject does not respond right away, don’t assume you need to jump in with a reworded question or additional explanation. Sometimes the best answers will come after a long pause. We all need time to think and compose our thoughts. And there’s nothing more dramatic than a pause, followed by a moving answer.

Tip 4: Take your time. If you look at your watch a few times, your subject will notice and perhaps be distracted – or worse, annoyed, or anxious that they’re not going fast enough. And if you look more than that, you may lose them entirely – not only for this time but for anytime in the future. If circumstances demand that you have little time, plan to cover less ground and give them your full attention. And if you need to keep track of the time, position a watch or small clock where you can see it without having to move your gaze too much. (Make sure you can’t hear ticking, though!)

Tip 5: Like a new school teacher needs to prep more than enough material for one period because he’s not sure how fast or slow the material will play out, make sure you have more than enough questions to fill the time available. We’d scheduled 20 minutes to talk to a town senior about a local flood and hurricane, but all of her recollections were captured in about 10 minutes, so we moved on to other topics. “What was elementary school like when you went to school in the town 75 years ago? How did your courtship start? What was it like being a young parent?” Just make sure you prioritize your questions so you get to the ones you’re most interested in if you do run out of time.

And beyond that, remember, it’s not rocket science. There’s no right or wrong way to conduct an interview. Just be a good listener in a quiet place and let them talk!

Maths Team

Problem of the Term 2007-8

Overall winners in each year group are:
Year 7 Amelia Lias
Year 8 Zachary Du Toit
Year 9 Charlotte Parker
There will be prizes for each maths class for the highest scoring pupil.
Year 9 AGAT Event at Hardenhuish School.
On 19th June 2008, eight able and gifted mathematicians took part in a tournament of the game 24's at Hardenhuish School. Many other schools entered their best mathematicians in that year group. Corsham did very well indeed, with both Rachel Lamerton and Kirsty Evans making the final four, with Kirsty eventually coming 2nd overall.

Well done to all these students.

RE Team

10 A-level Religious Studies students and 3 members of staff recently travelled up to Nottingham to see His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, talk. The students say:
"We left on Sunday 25th May to stay in a homely B&B which made us cooked breakfasts every morning. Monday was an early start. We got to the arena and saw a crush of excited people with Buddhist monks and nuns eagerly awaiting His Holiness' words. We saw him talking for 3 days both in Tibetan and English - the talks were long but very interesting. On the last day we visited a Zen garden which was beautiful and peaceful. The owner talked to us about his enlightenment experience."
"We all thought the Dalai Lama was friendly, had a great sense of humour and had the coolest laugh.
"Being in the presence of other Buddhists made it all seem very spiritual."

Expedition to Mongolia

After many months of planning, preparation, fund raising and getting fit, the expedition to China and Mongolia set off on 6 July. 9 students from Year 11, 12 and 13 will be away for 30 days. Some of the activities they will get up to will include camping, trekking, and horse riding, as well as working with a local based charity that runs summer camps for the street children of Ulan Bator. After riding across the vast open plains of Mongolia the last few days will be in the chaos of pre-Olympic Beijing, visiting the Great Wall. The expedition is being led by Mr McLeod.

Annual Commendation Assemblies

Special assemblies are being held at the end of July to celebrate the achievements of our students in Years 7 to 10. In these assemblies, students receive certificates listing the commendations they have been awarded in individual subjects. It is pleasing to see so many achieving large numbers of commendations. 

Congratulations to all!

Each assembly is being enhanced by some outstanding musical items provided by some of our talented musicians. Staff will now choose two students in each year to receive the Performance and Achievement trophies at our Annual Awards evening in October.

Holidays in Term time

Parents should already be aware of the changes made by the school in conjunction with Wiltshire County Council with regard to holidays taken during school term time.

The new code of conduct means that very few such absences will now be approved and parents ought to consider carefully before making a request from now on.

An information leaflet about this has already been sent home and more details are also available on the school website. Our absence request form has also been updated to reflect these changes.

Athletics

Same excellent performances in the Area Athletics Championships at Bath University:

Heather Cumming Year 11(High Jump) and Harry Allen Year 9 (200m) qualified for the South West Championships.

Heather jumped 1.71 and Harry came 2^nd in the County Championships 25.00 ( PB 24.8 ) 3^rd in the heat for South West Championships 25.2.

Heather  was selected for the English School Championships at Gateshead, a fantastic achievement. Heather jumped 1.62 to win her pool and in the final finished 5^th jumping 1.68

Sainsburys' Active Kids Vouchers
We collected a total of 21,332 vouchers and have already sent off our order. We have ordered lots of equipment including indoor unihoc sticks, hockey goal keeping equipment, volleyballs, exercise balls, even pom poms for cheerleading!

We are still collecting the Tesco's vouchers and will be until mid September, so please keep them coming. Many thanks for all your support

Sports Day

Each year has taken part in an Inter Tutor Group competition with Field Events and 1500 metres taking place prior to the Track Events which were staged in an afternoon.

Well over 800 students ran in the 1500 metres events. These events have involved hundreds of students in some very good competitions.

The girls' and boys' High Jump records were broken. Abbey Parkes -1.22 and Callum Dear 1.36

Ross Tunbridge had set a new Year 8 Shot Putt record earlier in the season 12.90m and Dan Day smashed the Year 9 100m record with a time of 11.22

The Chance to Shine scheme has been running with lots of girls and boys benefiting from sessions with EC coaches. On July 4 Year 8 and Year 9 girls' cricket teams took part in the Lady Taveners West Wiltshire Championships.  Both teams played two matches, with excellent efforts and improvements throughout.  Despite managing to secure a win, a successful day was enjoyed by all.

Rounders
Years 7, 9 and 10 all fielded strong teams in the West Wiltshire Tournament which ran throughout the summer term.  The Year 10's lost (17-11) to Abbeyfield and (17-8.5) to Sheldon but beat John Bentley (22-6).  The Year 9's lost (14.5-17) to Sheldon but beat John Bentley (26.5-7) and Abbeyfield (20-8).  The year 7's played with lots of enthusiasm and improved hugely over the term but came second to Abbeyfield (18-8.5), John Bentley (13.5-12) and Sheldon (15-6).

Extreme Sports Event

Sponsored by the The Corsham Area Community Partnership, Wiltshire County Council and North Wilts District Council with the help of the CASE Team and Corsham School.

Saturday 27 September from 11am-4pm at Corsham Skate Park Springfield Recreation Ground.

Events taking place will include BMXing,Mountain Biking, Power Kiting, Triball, SkateBoarding, Ultimate Frisbee, Parkour & Climbing Walls.

The Case Team will be holding assemblies at school in early September with showcases from a Parkour team and Thinkbikes - a mountain bike stunt display team

6th Form RE and Citizenship Day

We were very pleased to involve the 6^th form students in an interactive simulation called President for the Day this year.The Damaris trust worked with Year 12 students on an educational computer game which involved students in an ethical decision making exercise as if they were President of a developing nation.  The students discussed crucial issues about debt, economics and finance in a variety of forums including a parliamentary debate, using elected MPs and select committees.

The trainers were very impressed with the students' contributions and the students' were a credit to the school.

Boulogne Trip

On Friday 18 July, 93 Year 7 students, accompanied by 7 teachers and 2 sixth form students, took part in a trip to Boulogne.  We left Corsham at 2am and took the early-morning shuttle to France.  The day included a hypermarket stop, a walk around the old town, a visit to Nausicaa Aquarium and some time to relax at the beach. 

Students were able to buy their lunch in France and chose a variety of tasty foods. Another popular purchase was the French beret in a wide range of bright colours which looked very stylish on our students!

We arrived back in Corsham at 7.20pm - some more tired than others!  We had a fantastic day and hope to do it all again with Year 7 next year.

Election of Parent Governor- The Corsham School

This is to inform you that Julie Margaret Cann has been elected to the Governing Body as a parent governor.

Year Learning Manager

Mr Staten's temporary appointment as Assistant Headteacher is set to continue through the remainder of the year so we are delighted to confirm that Ms Norton (currently Assistant Year Learning Manager) has been appointed to lead the Year Team from September.

Miss Holly (R11 tutor) has been appointed as Assistant Year Learning Manager.

S11 will now be tutored by Mrs M Reece who is joining the school as Head of Modern Foreign Languages ( Room H8 )

As Ms Cooper is leaving us, Mr Brown will take over as tutor for 011 (Room S9)

Mr Balu is ending his time as tutor for C11 to enable him to lead our exciting developments with the new ASDAN Citizenship course. He will remain closely involved with our students through this work. Ms Vosper assisted by Ms Young (Maths Department) will take over responsibility for the tutor group. (Room R11)

Mr Staten will also remain closely involved with the Year Group as part of his Key Stage 4 responsibility and can still be contacted by parents if needed.

Other teaching staff news

A number of teachers will be leaving the school at the end of this term.

Miss Cawte, Mrs L Davies, Miss Williams and Mr Gallery are all moving on to promoted posts.

Miss E Cooper, Miss Lemon, Miss Deevey and Mrs Nelson are also taking up teaching posts elsewhere.

Mrs Adcock will be retiring after a long career at Corsham.

Thanks to all of these colleagues who have contributed a tremendous amount to the school.

Accounted For has had many wonderful experiences and concerts since we last wrote: Lincoln Baptist, First Southern Baptist in Great Falls, Ulm Bible Church, Malta Community Church, The Milk River Gospel Jamboree in Malta, and Mountain View Baptist Church, Cut Bank all in Montana. North Addison Baptist Church in Spokane, Washington and Emmanuel Baptist in Couer d'Alene, Idaho were invaded just this last weekend. We were all healthy, too! Praise the Lord! We hope you have enjoyed viewing photos online taken along our travels. All of these preachers, pastors, music men, and servants of the Lord in the ministry have been such a blessing. If you get to pouting under a juniper bush like Elijah thinking you're all alone- just DON'T!! There are people who love the Savior, their fellow Christian and want God's best for this country everywhere!! The servant of the Lord is not alone!

This one particular Gospel Quartet found love in abundance in Malta. Our first visit, we pray is not our last! We have never been so refreshed in Spirit at a gathering of singers and musicians! We were a little tired physically- but it didn't matter. Have you ever been so refreshed on the inside that it strengthened a hurting body? We were all blown away by the fellowship and warmth, caring and humility. A spirit of unity is a powerful thing. My spiritual engine is still purring away from the fueling I received there. Godliness is an energy that is supposed to be given out to ALL souls. Am I fueling hurting Christians? Do I represent life and high voltage to a lost soul? Lord, help me offer a contagious example of Jesus Christ to everyone... keep people running with hope and the light of the glorious gospel. I suppose you get the picture!!

Hey, the Lord's still on the throne, even during extremely high gasoline prices! Make the devil mad and don't cut back on the travelings of the Lord during this time. He will provide for you! He has for Accounted For. June 20th was a special dinner evening held at the house in Trout Creek for all the givers involved in the production of our CD. We called it our CD Celebration. I cooked up a doozy of a meal for several dear people and we had a good time! I love to cook for hungry humans... any one reading this now is always welcome at our home and table.

The month of July is just about done!! WOW! Fast summer! August will bring a local concert right here in good ole Thompson Falls, Montana, yes sireeeeee, and then one close by in Plains September 7th. Those will of course be reported on in our NEXT - ON TIME- Newsletter. Oh my but MOST important is the wedding.... yippee... the wedding of a one certain Dana Burns to a Miss Anna Cleghorn on August 30th. Stir the gravy and don't burn the biscuits it's gonna happen... and the earth will shake from the hallelujahs that day!
