We as a family are starting to prepare ourselves to church plant sometime in the future and we have looked around to see what help would be available for us within the NFI set up.

We have been looking to find a way to increase our understanding of the word of God and how we apply it to our lives and some more practical ideas around what to do in preparation for being church planters.

During our search we came across some interesting information on the Mosaic church in Leeds website where they run a church planting course. The first thing that struck us was what was expected of the participants on the course. These included the following items

Spiritual

We have therefore decided where possible to implement these things into your lives. Some of the more church specific ones we cannot do for example we do not run a leadership track in our church but on the whole the others are possible. This must of course fit alongside our work, family, social and church life.

It is going to be a challenge. In addition the chaps at Mosaic were kind enough to forward us the reading list for the course and we are in the process of begging, borrowing and stealing these books to read over the next couple of years. It is an excellent and diverse range of books at I thought I would post it up here for you guys to have a look at.

Following on from the Together on a Mission 08 conference Terry Virgo has written a reply / update on / to the challenges set out by Mark Driscoll to NFI as a family of churches.

Full details can be found here

This response from Terry shows the best side of NFI as a group, their humility and willingness to listen to outside voices and respond to them accordingly.

Mark Driscoll has probably had more impact than any other speaker at an NFI conference for years and the effects are reverberating around the churches as they take up the challenges. He threw down the gauntlet on a number of different issues and problems within the NFI churches. Some of them were not very pretty. He challenged us as a group on how we meet, where we meet, the time we meet, our doctrine and theology, the relative (in his view) slowness of our church planting, the use of the word ‘Family’, and not honouring the past over the future.

They were big things for a guest to come and say.

Terry with great humility admits that things are not right, how many leaders do that?!?, and then outlines some of the things that are happening / will happen in the future to align NFI up against what Father wants us to do or be.

I hope the leaders across all the churches take note, people pointing out the weaknesses are not always there trying to tear you down. Often they are trying to help you see what Father sees and want to point you onto better things.

I look forward to seeing us growing and changing as the ‘team(s)’ and churches work this through.

– dodaje Anna Gołębicka, Dyrektor Marketingu w CenterNet S.A.

Partnerzy i promocja akcji

We are preparing to go off to North08 today. North08 is a gathering of the northern (if you think yorkshire is in the north of course) and the deep fried mars bar eating (scottish) churches of New Frontiers International.

There have been a number of these events over the last few years and they have each been challenging and encouraging. Over the years we have had Terry Virgo, David Stroud and David Devenish speak to us and this year we have David Holden which I am looking forward to.

North is always about perseverance, not the subject but perseverance to overcome the many difficulties we have had to face while camping.

We have faced everything from grass so tall you needed step ladder to see over it, 1 toilet to 1000 people, toilets and showers that only worked when the wind was in one direction there was a u in the day and people had prayed hard.

Each year we have been on the brink of coming home but through sheer pig headiness we have stayed and battled it out. Guess what each time Father has shown up in a powerful way.

Year one both my wife and I came back alive and fired up to do more for Father to take the fight out to Durham

Year two on the way home my eldest Son and daughter became christian's (Praise God for going bananas!!)

Year three we were called into small group leadership after battling with the elders who had been asking us to do it for years.

Year Four Eldest son gets blasted by the Holy Spirit for the first time and I have to carry / drag him back to the tent. What a change that has made to him over the year.

So this year... well we now have a medical issue that is making it difficult for us to get to North on the Thursday. But I think this is an attack just as the other things were an attack. We need to press on fight it and get there. Why... so we can fellowship with the church and come home empowered and emboldened to take the message of Jesus' love into Durham!

Today has been an odd day. I've been feeling panicky all day *rolls eyes* but I think that could have been for many reasons:

1) Involved in a minor car crash - not really any damage done and no one was hurt but it shook us up a little bit and made my sister-in-law anxious as it was my brother driving. The problem is, when someone around me gets anxious, so do I.

2) Sat in Starbucks, but it was getting crowded, and I can't do crowds

3) Had a meeting with my line manager about work. I explained why being on the shop floor is bad for me and how it would help being off for a few months. She is going to look into it but she doesn't seem hopeful really. That means if they can't do anything for me I will have to start looking for a new job, and maybe have to resign before I get a new job.

4) Went to the Leader's Conference at the Brighton Centre, but again there were crowds of people and I couldn't cope so Chris had to take me home early

5) Conversation with Dad where he wasn't happy about the car crash, the fact Chris bought me home early when he was supposed to be working (he is allowed to look me, his boss said so!) and the fact in his opinion I am not dealing with the panic attacks well and it is making me unattractive to Chris. I said this to Chris but as he is busy working he can't talk to me so much so I'm starting to worry lots and get paranoid :-( I know Dad means well but it has kind of upset me.

6) My friend has been making slightly mean comments about me always cancelling on her etc. which has hurt as I went to London with her the other week, even though trains and crowds and stuff are a huge problem for me. I really don't want to have upset her but it seems I have. So I feel bad about that.

So all in all, this hasn't been a top day. I just want to get better, but I know it takes time....

"Sustainable seafood" is a green-living catch-phrase that's easy to gloss over without much thought-- until you're looking at a menu or standing at a fish counter wondering what you're supposed to choose, and why. <read more>

Greenpeace released its latest seafood sustainability campaign this morning and took aim at American grocery stores. Unfortunately, as we suspected it is merely another example of Greenpeace's failure to responsibly engage the seafood community in a constructive dialog about sustainability. Consumers should know that the retailer rankings presented in this report have no credibility. The non-science based standards by which Greenpeace came to its conclusions highlight the weaknesses in its efforts and undermine the entire project. <read more from the NFI> or <read the Greenpeace report>

Lots going on in sports, especially Down Under, and lots of stuff happening with the big 3 US sports... time for some commentary.

NFL - the NE Patriots have to be happy about the big favour San Diego did them. I had Indianapolis penciled in as the only team with an outside chance to beat New England. Does anyone really think that the Chargers can get it done?

The Giants came good at the right time - beating Dallas 21-17, and despite America's team amassing a 13-3 record this season, will it be enough to save Wade Phillips' job?
Jason Garrett was hired with an aim to eventually have him as head coach... but unless they pay him the money to keep him in Dallas, there are ample jobs out there - and both he & Tony Sparano will be interviewed for them.
From my perspective, I think that'd be pretty tough to dump Phillips after a damn good season, regardless of the result in the playoff departure. Jones is no fool, and will keep the low-key Phillips. For the Cowboy's sake, he should pay Garrett to keep him in Dallas. Sparano will probably depart tho'...

NBA now... I copped a bit of flack around the various sporting networks on my condemning of the Chicago Bulls in NBA Opinions With Malice - Sweet Home Chicago… ummm... but post recent developments in Chi-town, could anyone doubt that there are still huge problems with the Bulls? The players have taken over, with a 'veteran' guard who barely plays 3 minutes a game (Adrian Griffin) and an over-the-hill, over-paid center (Ben Wallace) seemingly taking the reigns.
The suspension of Joakim Noah for yet another game by player-vote, is out of line. So is the 21 point loss to Atlanta.
Bulls fans aren't happy, and if Paxson doesn't fix this soon - and decide where this team is headed (playoffs or lottery), then it will cost him his job.
And rightly so.

The situation involving Brian McNamee & Roger Clemens is getting over the top. Clemens macho posturing and constant story changes, when held against the backdrop of McNamee's consistency really doesn't help me believe the Rocket... reminds me quite a bit of

'Monkey-gate' in Australia at the moment. Harbhajan/India continually change the story regarding what happened during the 2nd test at the SCG, whilst Andrew Symonds steadfastly holds to his story that Harbhajan Singh called him a 'monkey'... thus fueling a furor not seen for many a year in cricket.
Oh wait... we saw it but a year ago when India/Pakistan made early exits from the ODI World Cup. Ho-hum...

On this, it's disappointing that when I've tried to engage some cricketing blogs on this, comments (any?) don't go up if you're not in agreement with the blog's viewpoint... pity that.

The 3rd test between Australia and India starts this week in Perth, and the WACA's wicket is a paceman's dream. Cannot see this game going too long...

Bizarre stuff at New York Knicks, huh? Comes to the point where everyone things that it's pointing to Dolan actually growing a pair and sacking Isiah, and then the Knicks absolutely DESTROY the Detroit Pistons, 89-65! Not entirely sure that's a good thing for the franchise...

Houston's woes continue with a loss to New Orleans. No shame in being beaten by the Hornets this season, but the Rockets have to start winning soon, if they're to make the playoffs.

Lakers/Memphis game just finished with the Lakers only just managing to eke out a win 100-99, and Andrew Bynum suffered a knee injury...
Terrible stuff, and this when he was playing soooo well... It also resulted in Kwame Brown playing 25 minutes of awful stuff on Pau Gasol. Scores are equal, and Brown misses A DUNK with less than 10 seconds to go that would've put LA up by 2. Gets free throws, and does get the one that wins it, but misses the second to give the Grizz a shot... Hell, given Brown's a 38% foul shooter, I should be happy he got the ONE! Egads man, egads.

That's all for now... yours in sports!

Hell, I bet I was the closest blogger who had Michigan where they deserved to be (I had 'em at #15)... but let's not be too sore at the Wolverines (I know there's one certain X-Man pissed over the use of the name): Chuck Weis is certainly happy someone's taken the heat off him.

Anyway... I figured that I better do something a lil' more realistic than simply go on Helmets this week. So I figured I'd just draw names out of a hat (no AA teams... didn't realise I wasn't allowed to rank 'em!).

And awaaaaay we go!

20+1: (rummage sound...) LSU - boy... do I feel stupid. Even I know they're better than this. Oh well... shoulda frozen the envelope.
20: Rutgers - ok... a lil' better. I mean... Buffalo in week 1? Grow a pair.
19: Auburn - Hell, happy with putting them there. Their helmets SUCK.
18: Georgia - Shut-up Bulldogs, just be happy you made it.
17: Hawaii - here you go Colt. This is the highest ranking you have in the nation. Hell, this is an INTERNATIONAL ranking!
16: UCLA - this is eerie. I almost look like I know what I'm doing.
15: Oklahoma - damnit! Just when I was getting somewhere towards an appearance of knowing what I'm talking about... the hat does this!
14: TCU - man... I am so glad that the Christian Horny Toads are still able to make an appearance in the 20+1. Catholic Schoolgirls have got nothing on Christian Horny Toads.
13: Penn State - Errr... am I looking like I know what I'm doing again? Wait... give me a few more picks to stuff it up...
12: Florida - C'mon... Orange, white & blue? Did a preschooler design that?
11: Arkansas - Another team that could probably use this poll to declare themselves better than they really are.
10: Wisconsin - Badgers... uh-huh... need I say more?
9: California - Jeff Tedford. I don't know much, but I know that this guy's a good coach.
8: Nebraska - Ok... I have nothing to say.
7: Ohio State - Be happy. Higher here than you should be, Michigan got dumped on.
6: Louisville - A lil' nuts. Most of my selections are at least in the right half.
5: Virginia Tech - Another team that is flattered by me having no idea.
4: West Virginia - I cannot believe this...
3: USC - How many polls do you think have USC outside the top 2?
2: Georgia Tech - Phew. A degree of normalcy. This is the kind of off-the-wall selection I expected. GO YELLOW JACKETS (is that one word or two?)
1: Texas - Ummm... could Matthew McConaughey pay me now?

A lot of you realise that I also write from time-to-time over at the excellent conglomerative blog, Epic Carnival. Lotsa folks writing there, and I believe it's really helped my writing... and general sports awareness.

However...
I was asked to submit a 20+1 rankings for NCAA football. Are you kidding me? I literally have NFI (and I don't mean the National Film Institute) on college football. Sure, heard of some of the teams before, but I lack the awareness that the general guy living in the US has. Totally lack. Like... a void.

I think it's important for each & every one of you to realise that I'm an Australian guy, living in Japan. Whilst I enjoy watching the American game, I tend to lean more towards the professional game - where news/games are readily available, and my awareness of players/teams is pretty damn good on that (enough to hold my own in Fantasy Leagues et al). Add to that, I lack the sense of allegiance that actually attending a college/university gives.
Still, I know all the really 'big' teams: USC, LSU, UCLA, FBI... errr... anyway (yes, I know... awful, awful pun using acronyms), I thought I'd make my college 20+1 rankings based entirely on how cool the logo on their helmet looks. As I said, when it comes to College football, I have no idea. So...
20 + 1: Washington - plain... but has a bit of class about it.
20: Miami - the two-tone 'U' has cool written all over it.
19: Oklahoma - does the wind really come sweepin' down the plain?
18: Rutgers - White on red... striking, but pretty common
17: California - classic stylin'...
16: Kent State - a lil' cartoon-ish... but works.
15: Michigan - weird, but kinda cool. In a weird-kinda-way.
14: North Carolina - powder blue works for the Chargers too...
13: Colorado State - the gold 'n' green works (especially for an Aussie)
12: Louisiana Monroe - Classic, but a lil' different
11: Nevada-Reno - Wolf on the side of a helmet... I mean... c'mon - that is cool.
10: Southern Illinois - tell me: what is a 'saluki'?
9: Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) - Fire-breathing dragons? All over it.
8: Arkansas - a pig? Ok... a vicious-looking pig, but a pig none-the-less!
7: UCLA - classic look
6: Hawaii - 5-0 baby!
5: USC - ok... I'll avoid the prophylactic innuendos & just say it looks cool.
4: Akron - hey... it's a 'Roo - what can I say I'm an Aussie!
3: TCU - Err... a christian college with a Horny Frog as it's mascot? Egads, but I love irony.
2: Texas - Longhorns... now that is cool. Really cool.
1: San Diego State - love the fade-to-black. Excellent. And the 'A' logo is stylin'...

G'damnit... they've asked me to do an update now... I responded with a "but the helmets aren't gonna change"... but alas, no luck.

My last article on Novastar Financial, dealt with threshold securities. See a friend and I have been quite intrigued by the topic that we did a bit more research.

Seeing so much volume in a small cap really made me wonder, and the whole naked shorting suppressing the current stock price is ridiculous. So who is behind the naked shorting?

Apparently, The Deposit Trust and Clearing Corporation(DTCC) counterfeits shares through its stock borrowing program. See the thing is the DTCC is primarily an intermediary-- it does not own shares just participates with brokers who claims an X amount of shares are available for borrowing.

I am not quite sure how this happens, but DTCC loans out shares it never really collects. On the threshold list, it is marked as fail to settle transaction, but the market thinks there are new shares floating around. The shares can be listed again and avaliable for borrowing and it keeps repeating itself over and over, which makes "phantom shares."

It has been noticed in stocks like Overstock.com (OSTK) , Krispy Kreme (KKD), and many others. It is easier to do with small caps and it has been a controversy for years. Threshold securities regulated by the RegSHO claims that there should not be any stocks failed to deliver over 13 days yet there are stocks that have been doing this for months, even years. It is easy to transfer the burden from brokerage to brokerage when all the big players are doing it and making a huge profits.

Huge profits for very few at the expense of many. Who's behind this all? Who's making the market? How can there be phantom shares exceeding the shares outstanding?

All legitimate questions but so very hard to explain. All I know is people are exploiting this loophole and everyone knows yet no one really makes it that big of a deal. Why?

The stock that no one seems to be discussing is Novastar Financial, NFI. Novastar Financial is a company in the subprime lending industry. Amongst the volatility and mayhem of the market, it has not affected the trade price of NFI. Today, it is number two price gainer of the New York Stock exchange, yet CNBC has not mentioned one word.

Why?

As we all know, the subprime crisis has created a lot of pessimism in the market. So much that institutional investors are using this information to make money and shorted stocks like NFI. A friend of mine essentially said there is more stocks being shorted than actually is available within NFI.

With the stock price going up about 4% yesterday, and 22% today, many institutions are losing money and are force to cover. What happens when a person or institutional is forced to cover? They, normally, do not receive a price they were hoping and have to buy stocks immediately.

With that said, NFI has the potential, and will most likely increase in price within the next couple of days. There is a threshold security list, which means “sellers failed to deliver 10,000 shares or more in the past five trading days and the level of ``fails'' is a minimum of 0.5 percent of the shares outstanding.” NFI has done so for 14 consecutive days.

Well I am just going to provide a chart for NFI below, but I want you to think why it has not been spoken on CNBC … why have we not heard anything interesting about subprime market?
