Nästa dag förundrades jag över att det var minst lika många flugor kvar i lägenheten. De verkade samlas i hundratal bland allt skräp på köksbordet; på munskydden, vantarna, diskmedlet, lamporna, Apoteket-påsen... Apoteket-påsen:

När jag såg påsen kom jag att tänka på en dag för någon eller några månader sedan när jag tog med mig lite frukt till lägenheten. En banan, passande nog.

Kvar i påsen var en svart pöl och ett svart bananskal:

Mais um choroso que aparece por aqui pensando "nso" marcos do capital (vai ver é corredor de maratona) e alucinado com a vida incerta. Nem um pós-keynesiano se espanta com os ciclos. Mais ainda: acha que "academia" é algo distante do mundo real. A boa notícia é que meus alunos sempre me dizem que adoram ler este tipo de comentário: percebem que têm menos concorrentes.

Stop sending me your political propaganda via email. If you want to talk politics, do a little research and let's talk face to face. I'll blow your ass out of the water, I guarantee it. I don't want to see this garbage in my email box every damn day, so knock it off. I've asked politely several times, and I've had it. All the trash talk you're sending me, why don't you look it up yourself instead of relying on political chain-mail for your information? Or did it ever occur to you that the so called "negative" points you're sending about the candidate someone might actually agree with?

Furthermore, I don't care how much money the candidates make, I don't care if they say the pledge or sing the national anthem or do the hokey-pokey, I don't care how "down-to-earth" they think they are with their "I'm-just-like-you-got-my-finger-on-the-pulse-of-the-everyday-man" horseshit they talk. I don't care. I've got my own political opinion. The same way that I don't appreciate you stuffing your religion down my throat, I don't like you stuffing your politics there either. For all I care you can stuff them right up your ass.

If you are aware of a history of breast cancer in your family, make sure all the women in your family know this.  Do not assume that they know!

My grandmother this weekend was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.  My mom and I were shocked when she told us there is a family history of breast cancer.  Two aunts have died of other complications but they had breast cancer.  This was years ago, when I was a small child, that these women died.  Sure she might have died of heart attack, but why not tell the women in your family that she also was battling breast cancer?  Meanwhile, my mom and her three sisters have no clue and think nothing of skipping a year or two of mammograms.  My grandma who has a clue is not getting mammograms except for once every 8 or so years! 

I just don't get it.

Don't everyone do something like that? ok, maybe not.

Siempre escribo de cosas que me parecen utiles para los spaniards que se vienen a vivir a UK, pero hoy voy a hablar de todo lo contrario.

Chris Stewart es un tipo que un dia se lio la manta a la cabeza, y se fue a vivir a un cortijo de las Alpujarras granadinas. Imagino que mas de uno conocera la historia de Chris, empezando por que ha trabajado de mil cosas, incluyendo ser el primer bateria del grupo Genesis, y pasando por esquilar ovejas en Noruega y unirse a un circo ambulante. Para los que esten mas interesados, podeis ver su biografia en Wikipedia.

Pero de lo que realmente quiero hablar, es de la faceta de escritor de Mr. Stewart. Hasta la fecha ha publicado tres libros, y yo no podria decir cual he disfrutado mas: Driving Over Lemons, The Parrot in the Pepper Tree y The Almond Blossom Appreciation Society.

En estos libros Chris nos cuenta su vida en las Alpujarras, y su transicion de guiri loco que se muda a la montaña, a Cristobal, uno mas de la comunidad alpujarreña.

No deja de ser curioso como ve un ingles a la sociedad española, y comparar nuestro punto de vista cuando venimos a UK con la de allguien que esta en la situacion contraria.

I didn't post most of last week because I was having migraines most of last week.  Imitrex, which usually works really well, failed to keep them from coming back.  On Friday I woke up with a killer headache at 4:30 am, and imitrex failed to work competely.  By 9:15 when I finally arrived at work, I had taken three (!) imitrex plus half of something else, and was still in pain.  The morning is a bit of a blur.  I went to urgent care that afternoon, but the migraines came back on both Saturday and Sunday.

Today -- knock wood -- I am migraine free for the first time in more than a week.  So I'm back.

How about that Phillies-Dodgers game eh? Jamie Moyer sure showed his age. Its about time. I'm tired of seeing that old relic beat my Mets each time he faces them. So fire works occurred during the game between the teams but nothing major. This series just got interesting, which is good. I was thinking that things wouldn't get good till the World Series. I can see the Dodgers taking all 3 games at home. Hell, they need to. With the way Phillie wins at homes the Dodgers need to grab their own home games.

Well, I'm once again off. To Maryland I go! See ya all tomorrow night.
