The Alchemist picked up a book that someone in

the caravan had brought. Leafing through the pages,

he found a story about Narcissus.

The alchemist knew the legend of Narcissus, a youth

who daily knelt beside a lake to contemplate his own beauty.

He was so fascinated by himself that, one morning, he fell

into the lake and drowned. At the spot where he fell, a flower

was born, which was called the narcissus.

But this was not how the author of the book ended the

story.

He said that when Narcissus died, the Goddesses of the

Forest appeared and found the lake, which had been fresh

water, transformed into a lake of salty tears.

"Why do you weep?" the Goddesses asked.

"I weep for Narcissus," the lake replied.

"Ah, it is no surprise that you weep for Narcissus," they

said, "for though we always pursued him in the forest, you

alone could contemplate his beauty close at hand."

"But..... was Narcissus beautiful?" the lake asked.

"Who better than you to know that?" the Goddesses said

in wonder, "After all, it was by your banks that he knelt each

day to contemplate himself!!"

The lake was silent for some time.

Finally it said:

"I weep for Narcissus, but I never noticed that Narcissus

was beautiful. I weep because, each time he knelt beside my

banks, I could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty

reflected."

"What a lovely story," the alchemist thought.

I also believe this is lovely and a beautiful excerpt from the book the alchemist. If you get a chance to read it please do because it will surely enlighten you. And give you a different perspective on life.

Chicago-based nu-shoe gazers Panda Riot have said in a recent interview with Jacqui Cheng of Ars Technica that the effect of their debut album showing up on the bittorrent filesharing network had an immediate impact on their sales: it doubled them.

Panda Riot are one of the fist acts to come out in favour of piracy. Even so, the idea that filesharing doesn't hurt sales, but actually encourages gaining currency. A recent study from the University of London in Canada concluded that people who fileshare frequently are likely to buy more more music than those who don't. Moreover, a further study, this time sponsored by the music industry, into Radiohead's experiment with In Rainbows found that despite Radiohead's pioneering a pay-what-you-please policy, the album became the mostly-widely pirated on the week of its release. Nevertheless, the album went on to be a huge success.

According to a report in the Financial Times, the researchers believe that:

“Rights-holders should be aware that these non-traditional venues are stubbornly entrenched, incredibly popular and will never go away,” said Eric Garland, co-author of the study.

I am glad that these other voices are coming through. Many fileshares use P2P networks like others use the radio. To search for things they might like. I always get annoyed with the way that filesharing is often reported. The industry claim that filesharing is costing it £xbn every year is just nonsense. Even if the anecdotal evidence of Panda Riot is wrong, even if the Canadian evidence is wrong and the industries own researchers are wrong, it doesn't mean that everybody who filesharers would automatically go out and spend that money on an expensive compact disc.

As previously noted here artists can make piracy pay, but only if they embrace it.

I woke up this morning from a long night of crying and praying and praying was the last thing i did

I woke up this morning from a long night of crying and praying and praying was the last thing i did before i fell asleep deeply. When I awoke my mind was refreshed my heart was rested and lighter. I went up stairs to the gym worked out for a hour and I read this morning on Paulo's blog about the feminine energy being awakened. Well, I had to remind myself just because things do not go the way I want them to go not to become angered, rock hearted, filled with bitterness, I should try to remain generous, compassionate, loving, have tolerance, understanding of not understanding. I still believe that there is a battle between good and evil and and there are many tricks that will be thrown at me being a bright light warrior. Just like i read two days ago on Paulo's quote of the day "God is in the words, and the devil as well".
(The Valkyries)

So I have done some little research this morning on feminine energy and masculine energy.

Located in the left side of our brain is the masculine force. It is the part of us that is assertive, logical, analytical, doing, controlling, aggressive, striving, projecting, hard, organizing, rushing, thrusting, always pushing us to survive, and has its origin in our minds.

The right side of the brain is feminine or that which is creative, delicate, intuitive, nurturing, receptive, tender, surrendering, synthesizing, integrating, soft, feeling, and the part of us that "knows" without explanation. Its roots reach deep into the heart.

Its amazing how you can feel once you tap into that energy! How it can calm the ego in a matter of seconds. Sooth the heart from pain with a simple prayer, sweeten bitterness, soften and smooth a rough heart, slow down a fast thinking mind, open shut eyes to awareness. Well, just somethings I'm experiencing and wanted to share.

"Look not from the mind, but from the SOUL.

For the Life that is coming is already before us, waiting to open up the world. Just look more closely.Find the eyes to see.

-From the First Insight

A university professor went to visit a famous Zen master in Kyoto, in search of knowledge. While the monk served tea, the professor commented exercises, analyzed writings, interpreted stories and traditions, and deliberated on the ancient processes of meditation. He did everything to impress his host, in the hopes that he might be accepted as a disciple.

As he spoke, the monk continued to fill his cup, until it overflowed, and tea began to flow across the whole table.

- What are you doing? Can’t you see the cup is full, and that nothing more will fit in it?

- Your soul is like this cup - replied the master. - How can I teach you the true art of Zen Buddhism, if it is already filled with theories?

I have often thought about fear. Suffice it to say, I carry it along. And its cousins. Fifty-nine posts categorised with this, the most basic human emotion, says a lot. Then of course, (by divine intervention, if you have to say it) I stumble on this:

"Nobody is courageous all the time. The unknown is a constant challenge, and being afraid is part of the journey.

What to do? Talk to yourself. Talk alone. Talk to yourself even if others think you have gone crazy. As we talk, an inner force gives us the security to overcome the obstacles that need to be surmounted. We learn lessons from the defeats that we are bound to suffer. And we prepare ourselves for the many victories that will be part of our life.

And just between you and me, those who have this habit (and I’m one of them) know that they never talk alone: the guardian angel is there, listening and helping us to reflect.": Issue nº 178 - When angels talk

(Via Warrior of Light.)

There are a few stories that follow this wonderful introduction by Paulo Coelho. The context, somehow, is different -- I have caught on to the fear aspect; he speaks about conversations with and of Angels. The book, however, is a wonderful read.

In a way, I have always been fascinated by people who have an immortal sense of security. I don't envy them, neither am I afraid of them. They just fascinate me. Because after all, fear, eventually, is a tool more than anything else. And they seem lacking in it. Fear sends gentle and harsh electric pulses and wakes the lazy neurons. It keeps the faculties alive. Manages responses for future action.

Many have often spoken of the negativeness, that is fear. How it brings us down. How dark an emotion it is. And how, hope, a bright shining light, washes the darkness, that is fear. I see hope as a twitching-fingers-while-you-wait emotion. Hope is hopeless, in itself. Do you Believe in Hope?

Then there are the pedlars of live-for-today. I think it is a fine philosophy. In very absolute terms. Almost carefree, devoid of responsibility. But, someday, somewhere you will have to respond. How will you respond? Response is always post-action; always tomorrow.

Fear stimulates the response. Not the foundation to build storeys of excuses, but the knowledge of your response. The truth of it all. Fear stimulates the self-dialogue that Paulo Coelho talks about.

And I love his last paragraph. As long as I don't rationalise. It is romantic.

In my conversations with the self (and yes, R, you can now safely assume the madness you speak of; however, others agree [insert appropriate smiley for R]), I have always had a dialogue. The dialogue has largely been one-sided, yet it has been good, engaging and useful.

And I think:

Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I've often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I'm all right, I'm all right
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home

In this article she opens here home and her life to journalist Claire Hoffman who writes the article. In this article Amy is talking about her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, drugs, and music. If you get a chance check out the article. Reading this I really see that Amy is just another young girl trying to find her way in this world that can be a maze thats can close in on you very fast if you don't slow down. It shows she has a warm side to her, bringing tea out to the paparazzi that stand around her house waiting to snap pictures of her when she walks out. She shows that she can be you and me. I am so amazed by this small woman with this amazing voice that supersedes her body frame, I pray that she doesn't let it all go down the drain. I'm not famous but I couldn't imagine what it would be like to go from being me (bright light Warrior Nika) :D to being Famous Bright Light Warrior Nika over night and trying to deal with fame, love, and shortcomming all at once. I'm sure self destruction can come into play, all in all we all have to walk our path. I truly would love to see many more records put out by Amy and see her healthy and singing to her fans.

The Brazilian author Paulo Coelho has enjoyed worldwide success for his books that speak of universal "soul truths" that every life encounters at one point or another. With fame (and possibly fortune) following him around the globe, one would think that he already has an army of global publishers, agents, marketing and PR staff, assistants, and whatever-else-have-you to do the nitty-gritty of reaching out to audiences and making them want more of Coelho's work in their lives.

But he apparently enjoys doing this kind of work himself (or at least being very hands-on in this regard). Aside from his official Website, Mr. Coelho also has a blog, an e-newsletter, and--get this--a pirate site where torrents of his books are made available to anyone who wishes to access his words. All for FREE. Done under his publishers' noses. And we're pretty sure he doesn't get paid for this.

Why on earth would someone just give his work away for free? Doesn't he want to cash in on his success?

But being the author and the man that I would have on my "Most Admired People in the Universe" list (if ever I did have such a list), Mr. Coelho evidently believes that there is more to his words and his work than whatever comforts it affords him. For him, writing and creating is a collaborative effort--a dialogue between him and his audience.

Read more about his thoughts on the Net, blogging, and pirating his own books--aside from his other experimental exploits HERE.

new majickal journal entry 004
08/11/08 - 3:15pm (moon day)

yesterday was my first day at Tat's new place. (akron, ohio)
one of the first things i did upon entering was use the guest bathroom.
i noticed a book she had in there titled: 'Warrior of the Light'
i let it randomly fall open to a page to just see what would pop up.
it landed on page 42 (of course) and the entry was thus:

a warrior of the light often loses heart.
he believes that nothing can stir in him the emotion he desires.
he is forced to spend many nights feeling that he is one of the vanquished,
and nothing seems able to restore his enthusiasm.
his friends say: "perhaps his fight is over."
the warrior feels pain and confusion when he hears such remarks because he knows
that he has not yet reached the place he wanted to reach.
but he is stubborn and refuses to relinquish his aims.
then, when he least expects it, a new door opens.

the last line lept off the page at me:
"...then, when he least expects it, A NEW DOOR OPENS."
we've been going over somethings such as the number 42 and "door opening"
the day before i left i made a song titled: "Open The Door." i found some old recordings of Aleister Crowley reading the Enochian Calls (or Keys.) i used the 1st Call in this song. today i finished the song and posted it at The Aleister Christ Project: http://www.myspace.com/TheAleisterChristProject

the rest of this book looks amazing, so this will be my 'book of the month' post as well.

the book: 'Warrior of the Light' by Paulo Coelho.

Abrazos. Dyego.

Brazilian author Paulo Coelho has had a blog for years. He uses it to collaborate with his readers, asking them to suggest ideas for his books. He encourages them to communicate with him. He even does an occasional broadcast on seesmic, recently announcing the arrival of his latest book.

It's great. He is thoughtful, personal, far from pompous and just the right length. Is this what a broadcast should sound and look like. Note the wonderful room behind him!
