A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. "What food might this contain?"

He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house." The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow. She said "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock.

To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well; she died.

So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

Moral:
(1) The next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, -- remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

(2) We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

(3) Each of us is a vital thread in another person's tapestry; our lives are woven together for a reason.

I get a random email from my mother last Friday, with no body, just the subject line: Weird Al is playing the San Mateo County Fair tonight! I had already been thinking I hadn't hit a fair in years, and this was the icing on the cake.

Well, icing we were not to touch. Since he was performing inside, there was a limited amount of seats, so we couldn't get in. So we had to formulate a new plan. And thus I came up with my three goals:
1. Eat a giant corndog (see above).
2. See some bunnies (see update below).
3. Milk a goat (boo).

I accomplished two. There were no goats to be milked, much to my disappointment. But one thing lightened my spirits: Pig Races! I had never seen such a thing. The small ones run remarkably fast. This one, probably not so much:

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Pig with bucketbutt"][/caption]

I'm so glad there aren't fair corndogs available to me at any time, or I would probably look that.

And look! I even won an award:

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="375" caption="Best Mace?"][/caption]

UPDATE: I forgot, I did see some bunnies. Most didn't come out, as it was the weird time between sunset and dark enough to turn on the floodlights. So most of the bunnies look like dark blurs. EXCEPT for emo bunny.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="180" caption="Emo Bunny hates you."][/caption]

Well, I mean I can, and I can write too! My problem is every time I try to read a book, by the time I'm done with the first page I'm tired. Not like a little tired, like exhausted tired. You know that kind of fatigue you feel after Thanksgiving dinner (I suppose you vegetarians and vegans don't know. I just don't understand veggers. You give up meat for your "health" and end up looking like chemo patients, all pale and frighteningly thin. I mean if you wanna look like that, why not just develop an eating disorder? You'll get the same look and save money on food. And also, if you don't wanna eat meat then why do you have all this mock meat? If you hate meat so much why are you making bullshit that tastes and feels like meat? Moron. You know what really gets me though? The ones who do it 'for the animals'. Seriously, how many animals do you think you saved by giving up meat? Let me tell you...NONE! Not one cow, chicken, fish, or pig was saved. Your sacrifice was for nothing. And while we're on the subject; why are all male veggers such pussies? Every guy vegger I've seen is an emo, pseudo-intellectual, "indie" music (news flash: When you're signed to a label and have fans everywhere it's not indie anymore) loving, transparent, emaciated, borderline homosexual? Does lack of meat turn off your testosterone flow while turning up the estrogen and simultaneously making you an unbearable prick? I mean, it might be cool when you're 16 and all the dumb teenage girls think you're so deep, but when you're 30 it makes you a douche, and a worthy candidate for an ass kicking.)?
Shit, I don't remember what I was talking about.

Oh well.

im sitting here on my soiled matress, uncovered and muddy lying on the floor. ate tuna, and drank lots of water. nothing else to do, but think about mundane facts of my existence and how i always will remain wishing for more. the windows are all broken, and the cheap blinds rattle in the wind. the ducts carrying cool air are rustling, and their screws have come off. the room smells of boxes and old paper, and i can see a patch of brown in all of my vicinity. the fridge has stale vegetables and rotting chicken. small drops of frozen blood from the uncooked steak paint its interior. the carpets need cleaning. it has a stain for every story that was made here. but i'm fine. i like these smells and the pungent odors, and i have a feeling i'm going to miss all the shit i've loved eating all this while. see you second home. can't wait to get started with my third. grunt. oink.

The bud
stands for all things,
even those things that don't flower,
for everything flowers, from within, of self-blessing;
though sometimes it is necessary
to reteach a thing its loveliness,
to put a hand on its brow
of the flower
and retell it in words and in touch
it is lovely
until it flowers again from within, of self-blessing;
as St. Francis
put his hand on the creased forehead
of the sow, and told her in words and in touch
blessings of earth on the sow, and the sow
began remembering all down her thick length,
from the earthen snout all the way
through the fodder and slops to the spiritual curl of
the tail,
from the hard spininess spiked out from the spine
down through the great broken heart
to the blue milken dreaminess spurting and shuddering
from the fourteen teats into the fourteen mouths sucking
and blowing beneath them:
the long, perfect loveliness of sow.

St. Francis And The Sow

Galway Kinnell

My notes:

I have ever found this poem so deeply spiritual. Talk of finding God in all things!

We had the Food Science Exam today. It wasn't hard, but I couldn't get the right answer for most of the questions, because I didn't revise. I didn't pay much attention to Food Science because It was just a minor topic. I don't care how much calories or energy or all those kind of stuff. I just eat whatever there is.

After sitting on the chair for 45 minutes, the exam was finally over. Next up, Literature. Wow, this subject is one of my favorites, nice teacher and nice subject. The air in the room became so fragrant and fresh. No idea why. For the period, we had to write an continuation of a story book called Martyn Pig. I wrote a plot murderous plot, and I hope the teacher finds it unique and good.

After Literature, we had our 25 Minutes break. Ate something and went to the Pull-Up area. Did some pull-ups with my friends, and then went to the hall to assemble to get back to our class. After that, period was Science and ending with Mathematics. Unlike yesterday, today everyone looked glum and dragged their feets after school because today was Co-Curriculum Activity day.

I joined the National Cadet Corps, a organization under the real Military. Today was brilliant, because our Specialists taught us the silent language of the Military. It was fun, and then we went off to the vegetation area to do our Orienteering. Went well, but then School ended with a very boring ending. We went back to school straight, and then took off from there. Nothing was done in School.. Boring.

After everything, my friend followed me to Mac Donalds to get some burgers. We were famished because we didn't had anything to eat since we were released from class. Right now, I'm still hungry, because it was just a single burger. Was not filling, obviously. I wanted to buy a waffle on the way back, but felt lazy to wait for it to get ready. So I just went back straight after eating.

When I got home, I was surprised that there was more than a dozen of foodstuff on the table. My father works in a very generous company. I think there was some kind of a occasion. But it didn't really matter, because I craved for something heavy. I'm just waiting for 10 more minutes and Pimp My Ride would start.

Today's opinion: Surviving in harsh areas.

I would be afraid if I got lost in the Sahara Desert or the Jungles of Amazon, but I wouldn't hesitate to drink or eat anything just to keep alive. And these few days, I have been taking part in activities that requires us to walk in long distances. So from watching Survival shows, I could tell whether I'm going to be dehydrated or not. I think that shows that teaches us the basic Survival Skills are very important, because you never know when you are going to need them.

This little piggie didn't like mud, so somebody put her in teeny wellington boots. BBC (in a surprisingly soft bit of journalism) has a 30-second video of her stomping around the pigpen with her little green feet. Say it with me now: Awwwwwwww.
Thanks to Esther for the tip.

I could never be a vegetarian. There is nothing better than a slimy egg oozing down a pile of raw beef, or sauteed frogs legs, roasted veal cheeks, or foie gras rolls. Woo me with pork belly, I will love you forever.

This weekend we've gone to Napa, to attend a livestock auction and buy a pig.

This is the Napa Town and Country Fair and it's great.

There's music, barbecue, rides, funnel cakes, and farm equipment (both antique and brand new).

If this isn't the best bumper sticker ever, it's surely in the top five.

In the livestock area, there are sheep, bunnies, cattle, swine, and all sorts of other critters. The livestock are being auctioned off by the pound, so it's important to know how much a cow weighs.

...and we get to meet and talk to the person who raised the pig.

These prices (typically $3 to $5 per pound) are way above market value, but the point is to support 4H and Future Farmers, and get an extra-tasty hand-raised pig. One of the kids is giving the money to cancer research, in honor of his mom. His pig goes for more than $18 a pound, which gets a big cheer.

Rob tries to distract them, but when my muse and Ashley are together, they're unstoppable. They're so good at bidding that we've ended up with two pigs.

But what happens to the pig? It gets professionally turned into the best bacon and sausage and ribs you've ever tasted. We're going to have to invite a lot of guests to our place for dinner and breakfast this year. Want to come over?

Mmm... bacon.

The rest of the weekend is a nice relaxing time in Napa. We're staying with our friends (thanks guys!). My muse cooks dinner (and excellent dessert, yay!), and there's good wine and that brilliantly easy perfect-weekend tempo.

We found four kittens in the barn. Richiedecided to bring one into the house the other night. Eggnog was happily minding his own business eating his dinner. He sauntered into the living room where he would likely give himself a bath and then sleep for 326 hours before eating again. About halfway into the room Eggnog noticed the tiny kitten (about 4 weeks old) and got MAD! He was hissing, growling, meowing, coughing, and...oh yeah, snorting like a pig. Richie and I were hysterical! After about 5 minutes I thought, "HEY! I should make a video!" So I grabbed my phone and shot the video below. We were nice to poor Eggnog and returned the kitten to it's mother a few minutes later. Eggnog took about an hour to recover! He rolled on the floor making an awful moaning noise. If you tried to touch him he would JUMP and then hiss. I hate to laugh at his misfortune but it was REALLY funny. I love my cat and have vowed not to bring any more kittens in the house but I will still laugh at this video!

NOTE: You will need to turn up your sound. I made the video with my phone and it was picking up a lot of background noise.

Instead, Dolores had a couple of very large contractions and delivered two more piglets to bring the litter up to 11. I then had a long wait for the afterbirths and after a final check of the piglets, I fell into bed somewhere around 2.30am.
