The export format is a bunch of CSV-files and a directory with all the attachments all packed into a zipfile. The import script takes the zip-file as input so you only need to transfer one file between the systems. The import script will strip the HTML from the descriptions and comments so that they look good in Trac. If you import it into a non-empty trac the tickets will get renumbered, and any references with the common #56 reference to tickets will also be renumbered. There is support for mapping usernames from the old usernames to the new, and some more little features like that.

It's using five.grok (for no good reason) so a proper release has to wait for a first release of five.grok, but if you need it, it's in the collective. It alo need documentation, which also will happen at the same time, I hope.

These location aware phones can determine your location either through the GPS on your phone, via Mobile phone mast triangulation or from your wifi IP address.   Google Gears has made establishing our location easier whether we have GPS or not. A number of sites are now Google Gears enabled.  

Yahoo has also added a new dimension by recently launching FireEagle which allows your location to be shared with other applications.  This way you only need run one location aware application on your phone and as along as it can share it's location with FireEagle your other location aware applications can read your location. 

We can use sites like Google maps, Microsoft LiveSearch and Yahoo Go! on our mobiles to find what services and retail outlets are available in our area. Of the three I prefer Google Maps for all the extras you get such as being able to enter the name of a point of interest and not only do you get its location (full address and contact details) but reviews,  photos & videos, user content, links to its web page and its entry in wikipedia.  The one thing missing from Google maps is traffic news in the UK (its available in the US).  The one I use for traffic is  Map 24 which is another download but it does give good traffic plus the usual what's in the area.

I have been looking for a simple 'show my location' piece of software, nothing complicated just my location. Loki would be a great example of a simple clean effective tool to show your location but at the moment it only uses WiFi to determine your location no sign of it using Google Gears.  Loki links to FireEagle but doesn't allow you to read your location from FireEagle it only allows your Loki location to be sent to FireEagle. 

SeeMyWhere looks to be more like it as it can use GPS or Xtify to determine your location.  However it is only available on Blackberry at the moment.  It doesn't share its location through FireEagle and I am reluctant to load yet another add-in (Xtify) to determine my location when I'm already running GoogleGears.

So I am currently using Rummble which is much more than just a location revealer.  It of course uses Google Gears and can share and read locations through FireEagle. It has a status update , you can announce a future trip (see Dopplr below) and you can write a travel blog.   It's main purpose seems to be to Rummble (share your rating of) a place you have visited. And you can see Rummbles about places in your vicinity. 

Like a lot of other Social Networking software Rummble can interlink with other Social Networking software.  I have mine set to update my status and location on Twitter which in turn updates my Facebook status - see my earlier blog joining up my web spaces.  It can be set to show your Rummbles on a map in Facebook which I haven't set yet. 

It also allows you to share your photos or to pull in your Flickr photos.  That reminds me that if your phone has a camera as well as GPS you can geo tag your photos and display them on a map on Flickr and  Picassa or add them to Google Earth. Rummble like Dopplr allows us to announce future trips that will trigger people we know or are linked to in the vicinity of our trip.  Rummble adds the ability to write a travel blog about your exploits not that I have entered one yet!

Location aware applications allow you to share your location with your friends but you can also go public, though not necessarily revealing your exact location.  This would be a great way of discovering people you have lost touch with although I have not found anybody that way yet.  I have been approached by people I do not know on Rummble.

I have just been introduced to a similar service to Rummble called Loopt which I shall have to investigate further but I'm already feeling overwhelmed with location aware applications.  It would be good to find a source which analysed which location aware applications had the largest networks. 

most of my times been taken up with attempting to find gainful employment in the kernow (cornwall) area which is about as fruitful as trying to find the holy grail with a strategic search of wastepaper bins - suffice to say, i'm still looking. Thankfully though, my time has also been taken up with Poi again! Although my back is still not fully recovered yet I succumbed to my itchy fingers and invested in a rather lovely pair of L.E.D poi strangley unmarked brandwise but was bought for a bargain price of about twenty pounds from cave in truro. I'm in love!

So anyway - I took these new found beauties for a spin on hale towans - an area that consists of about three miles of sand dunes - when i was on a camping trip with the fantastic other half and his martial arts crowd. so being the only poister there I expected mockery and at best tolerance at my new babies as i tried to transfer some of my tricks from bouncy elasticated light weight sock poi to these much much heavier solid string variety. but really i shouldn't have worried as at some point pretty much everyone there requested the chance to have a spin on them and discovered (to my childish joy) that it's not as easy as it looks. One of the things I loved about these poi was obviously the fact that they're rather glorious colour fade poi, in that they slowly cycle through a range of colours, but also that once they're spinning at a reasonably fast speed you get a slight afterimage strobing effect when it cycles through a few colours and then solid lines on the next few. I dont think it was intentional at all on the part of the manufacturers and more due to the type of bulbs used to emit each colour (?) but it gives you a marvellous effect as you phase through colours and modes as you spin :D fantastic! as you can tell i am utterly taken with these! there is only one downfall to them that i can tell and thats that the adjustable leads have a tendancy to adjust themselves when you are spinning and after a few minutes or so you end up with one poi a noticable few inches longer than the other...well its not noticable to the eye when your watching but those few inches are crucial when trying to execute any kind of move that requires a modicum of finesse and i have enough bruises as it is trying to master prticular wraps, espescially one particular arm wrap that i'm still having difficulty with using my right arm but i persist as i must :) . so I will be replacing those with a heavy duty elasticated cord before i'm out spinning again (very similar to cole-cord which nick woolsey uses and sold on the home of poi site but much much cheaper - available from most fabric/ haberdashery outlets not available in as many fun colours but hell, they're LED poi. it'll be DARK!). a good thing about the adjustable cord i have (about the only plus point) is that it's black and when the lights are off in the LED poi they become almost invisible against the night sky and the whole set up becomes nearly invisible and therefore much much fun to practice with and be SURE you've got those moves down before trying to translate to fire, which i shall be doing hopefully before the end of the year.

oh yeah, and i have the one handed butterfly down again - which i havent managed to pull off in my self re-education after my few years away from poi so happy days :)

this weekend i shall be trying to master the behind the back and behind the head one handed butterfly...when i've recovered from my inevitable concussions i shall be back to update on my success ;)

1. Materialen

• Een ronde (zachte) bal. Dit kan een tennisbal zijn, maar ook bv een foam bal. Foam heeft als voordeel dat hij niet zo hard aan komt als je jezelf ermee slaat, en is dus geschikt om als oefen poi te gebruiken. Verschillende soorten ballen kan je makkelijk vinden bij een speelgoedwinkel.
• Een lange bout met oog. Zorg dat de bout, zonder het oog mee te rekenen, even lang is als de bal.
• Een moer. Ikzelf heb een borgmoer gebruikt om problemen te voorkomen.
• Fluffy stof! Dit kan per meter erg duur zijn, dus ik heb gewoon een oud kussentje gebruikt die ooit bij de Xenos vandaan kwam voor niet al te veel.
• En natuurlijk naald en draad

Afhankelijk van de hardheid van de bal, schroef je de bout in de bal. Als de bal te hard is kan je er voor kiezen om eerst voor te boren, aangezien de moer geen scherpe punt heeft. Mijn bal is gemaakt van rubberfoam. Dat betekent dat hij vrij hard en stevig is, maar zodra je eenmaal een begin heb, kan je je moer er wel zo indraaien, en zit hij lekker stevig. Daarna draai je aan de onderkant gewoon de moer erop.

Omdat de moer nu uitsteek, kan dit natuurlijker pijnlijk worden. Als het materiaal het toestaat, kan je er dan voor kiezen om de moer in het balletje te verwerken, zodat deze niet meer uitsteekt. Controleer of alles stevig zit, en niet los kan. Hierna naai je de stof erom heen, en kan je er niet meer bij.

Als dit klaar is, kan je met het stof aan de gang. Ik heb 2 cirkels geknipt. Deze heb ik 3kwart binnenstebuiten genaaid, met de bal erin. Ik heb de bal erin gelaten zodat je de stof er strak omheen kan naaien. Na 3kwart rond genaaid te hebben, kan de bal er nog net uit, en kan je de stof omkeren. Het laatste stukje is vervolgens nog vrij lastig om netjes te naaien. Ook vanwege alle fluffy stof die in de weg zit. Probeer het zo strak en netjes mogelijk te naaien. En Voila! Je fluffy poi zijn klaar. Nu kan je ketting eraan hangen. Ik neem dan ook aan dat je al een ketting hebt, en anders kan je die er natuurlijk ook nog makkelijk bijmaken.

Two or Three Things about Activism (73 min, 2008) is a counter-documentary based on a distinction once made by Godard between making a political film (a film about a political struggle) and making film politically. Making film politically means questioning the dominant forms of producing images and sounds and one’s own complicity in this system. While 13 protagonists, from anarchist groups and environmentalists to NGOS, discuss activism in Romania and its historical context, the voiceover reflects the motivations behind the video.

Two or Three Things about Activism begins with a richness of sound and image, but becomes increasingly bare and fragmented, preventing an easy identification. The form contributes to the goal: in a Romanian context in which activism is weak and made up of isolated groups, the video hopes to become a tool for self-reflection, asking activists to see their own position from the point of view of the others. It doesn’t represent Romanian activism, but tries to intervene in it from the inside, to provoke change.

“It was the beginning or middle of 2007. We traveled across Romania, to make a film about activism. Who is this we? The obvious beginning would be to confess our ideologies. But the obvious is always too simple. You wanted to make an objective document. My motivation was more subjective. It began from a failure. A five-year failure of activism. I wanted to believe the failure was not mine, but the failure of the context.” (voiceover)

Two or Three Things about Activism is part of Commonplaces of Transition, a collaborative video project between D Media (Romania), Ak-Kraak (Germany), Interspace (Bulgaria) and K:SAK (Moldova). The project has produced 8 videos on themes including the remapping of borders, the transformation of labour and the evolution of activism. Joanne Richardson is living and working in Cluj (Romania) as a theorist, artist and program director of D Media (www.dmedia.ro), a media art NGO. For those of you who haven't been to the group before, the format is that we all do the reading beforehand (well, most of us do!) and then discuss it at the meeting. In June 2007 the Australian government began the intervention into Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory. The Racial Discrimination Act 1975 was suspended to allow this legislation to be passed. Under the guise of "child protection", the government compulsorily acquired five year leases on Aboriginal land permits. It put in place a welfare quarantine system whereby people living in "prescribed areas" - Aboriginal town camps and remote communities, whether elderly, students, single, or members of families - have half their welfare payments paid in the form of "store cards". These are gift cards (aka ration cards) that can be spent at approved stores - namely corporate chain stores in Alice Springs, Katherine and Darwin, regardless of the distance of communities from these major centres, or the lack of transportation available to people from remote areas.

Joanne Richardson will screen In Transit (30 min, 2008), Precarious Lives (excerpt, 43 min, 2008) and Two or Three Things about Activism (excerpt, 73 min, 2008), and discuss the connection of the project to video activism and counter-documentary.

'In Transit' is a diary of a journey through space and time, composed of subjective impressions of the present, childhood memories and recycled fragments of the past. While traveling across Romania in the year of its EU accession, the monologue reflects on the meaning of transition, the re-writing of history and the relation between images and memory. Multiple layers of signification emerge in references other films by Guy Debord, Chris Marker and Peter Forgacs.

BACKGROUND:
Latin American cleaners at NPL suffered an immigration raid approx 1 year ago resulting in deportations. This was just as they were organizing into a union, and happened when Amey took over the cleaning contract. Since then numbers employed have fallen from 35 to 11. Of those,  5 have since been suspended for almost two months for distributing a leaflet mentioning the manager responsible for imposing contractual changes without consultation. On Tuesday we will know the company's decision following the disciplinary process against them. This action is because the suspended activists expect some form of 'punishment' i.e. formal warnings or dismissals.

The leaflet on the day will give more details.

While Hackney Council celebrate the Olympics with the ‘Carnival for the Cultural Olympiad’ we will have a look at the gentrification of Hackney that the Olympics will cause. From Dalston Lane to Broadway market we will take people on a guided tour of dispossession and hear from shopkeepers, residents and the homeless who are fighting to keep their area a place they can live and work in and struggling to survive in this Olympic borough.

Energy Cafe at Gunpowder Park

The Field Station Energy Café is a project by Pilot Publishing (Amy Plant and Ella Gibbs) which will reinvigorate Gunpowder Park with a feeling of the original ‘commons’ where land was used as a resource for all.

The construction of Energy Café will turn normal planning procedures on its head. The process will be developed organically, out of necessity, through people’s involvement.

Pilot Publishing will work with ecologists, permaculture specialists and the local community to harvest wild food from Gunpowder Park and source farm or home-grown produce within a five mile radius. They will experiment with sustainable ways of cooking and make an off grid kitchen outside the field station and through these activities, develop a greater understanding of the landscape by those who use it.

Over the course of a year Pilot Publishing will host harvesting walks and events, permaculture workshops and research into renewable energy to create a sustainable social facility that can continue to provide Park visitors with a common space to meet, share ideas and exchange local knowledge.

These days most car navigation devices are so intuitive that nobody reads the manuals. They charge the device up, stick it on the windscreen and get driving. In fact that is pretty much what brands like TomTom encourage you to do. They do also encourage you to go to TomTom Home via your PC and the Internet to download the latest map as well as the current configuration of the satellites so that you get a quick connection in the car. But this is not what I am writing about.

If you buy a new car navigation device using our maps (and given that we have 93% marketshare in the industry, in most cases it is our maps) you can pretty much rely on them being accurate.

There are 2 main reasons why people don't always get the result they expected.

First of all you can program the way your navigation device gives you directions. Depending on the brand and model, you actually have the ability to influence the way the device works. For example:

• By default your GPS unit is programmed to navigate via the 'Fastest Route'. The way that works is that it will have a preference for the higher road classes, i.e. main roads, motorways, expressways and so on. The first reason for that is that major roads are designed for faster throughput. Often the speed limit is higher so you can drive faster. That means that if you can get to your destination by parallel roads such as Great South Rd in Auckland and Manukau and the Southern Motorway, the Southern Motorway will usually be much faster.
• You can program your car navigation device to drive by the 'Shortest Route.' Now it will compute your route solely on driving distance. In some areas this may be quicker, for example many rural roads in the Waikato are long straight roads and in many cases have very little traffic. This could make the journey faster, but this is local knowledge. In urban areas taking the shortest route may well mean getting stuck at compulsory 'Stop' or 'Give Way' signs at the major roads while the traffic using the 'Fastest Route' zips past in front of you while you are waiting.
• Some devices, such as some of the Navman models allow you to use a 'slider' function which allows you to weight the routing style to a balance that you like. This is complex and unless you know what you are doing, I would stick with 'Fastest' and only change to 'Shortest' where you are pretty certain it will get you there on time.
• Another factor is local knowledge. When you commute or go to certain places regularly, you will have learned about the odd bottleneck which doesn't conform to the general rules. The GPS unit is a computer and designed to work within a set framework and a local bottleneck does not come into the equation, yet. So the best scenario is to use a combination of your local knowledge and the instructions from your nav unit.
• Some devices have a lot more functionality. For example they might let you avoid main roads or motorways, avoid toll roads or gravel roads and so on. If you spend a lot of time driving to unfamiliar places, it really is worth having a look through all the menu options to see what you can do.
• There are many other levels of information in your device including a large file of Points of Interest. These include everything from your favourite brand of petrol, ATM, accomodation or food, as well as public toilets, boat ramps and pretty much everything you could wish to drive to including emergancy locations such as hospitals, accident & emergancy. You can look for these closest to the car or near your destination.

In summary, what you have is a highly sophisticated computer and like most computer programs, most people only use a small percentage of its functionality. I recommend that you start using it on 'Fastest Routing' until you are familiar with how it works. Try 'shortest' when you are not in a hurry, or when you are travelling short distances. Then either read the manual or go through the set up screens and check out all the other great functionality your device has to offer. You will be pleased that you did.

Ponto turistico e de encontro de jovens, um otimo lugar para brincar de POI, esta foto nos tiramos neste ultimo final de semana,

Foi bem bacana pois lá conseguimos um contato de algumas pessoas que gostão muito de malabares nos convidou para irmos para varios lugares onde eles gostão de ir e treinar, estaremos presentes e acompanhando e postando nossas evoluções nos pois.

Ho acquistato questo navigatore un paio d'anni fa, era il periodo che si trovava a metà prezzo con i punti Esselunga, a me avanzano sempre, quindi l'ho acquistato al volo.

Mi è stata data in dotazione anche l'antenna esterna, non l'ho mai utilizzata sull'auto, ma ad aprile 2008 l'ho fatta installare sul camper.

Non ho notato un gran che di miglioria di ricezione, tant'è che lo uso spesso così, senza attaccarla, mettendolo nella staffa sul vetro.

Unica accortezza, visto il "togli-metti" continuo, è pulire bene il vetro e la ventosa, prima di ogni applicazione.

In questi anni ho potuto constatare che riesco a caricare circa 25.000 POI o PDI, rigorosamente dal sito www.poigps.com, per questo ho pensato di avere due profili di POI diversi, uno per l'auto (con autovelox, dissuasori, metropolitane, sorpassometri, ecc.) ed uno per il camper (con campeggi, aree di sosta, aree di parcheggio, camper service, ponti bassi o stretti, fontanelle, ecc.), questo per evitare di appesantire la memoria interna con informazioni inutili.

Tutti i POI sul Garmin sono caricati sulla memoria interna, la SD esterna serve solo per caricare le mappe, il 320 ha in dotazione un DVD con le mappe di tutta Europa, diciamo la parte ovest e centrale, perchè per l'Europa dell'est è un pò più approssimativo.

Il DVD l'ho aggiornato al 12/2006, poichè il primo anno era gratuito, per il prossimo aggiornamento, visto che dovrò pagarlo, aspetterò di fare qualche altro viaggio importante, così da avere la situazione ultima possibile.

All'inizio convertivo i POI io direttamente dall'estensione TomTom (.ov2) in Garmin (.csv) (istruzioni), oggi si trovano su quel sito già comodamente pronti all'uso, basta darli in pasto al programma POILoader e vengono caricati in un attimo, così come in un attimo provvedo a controllare l'aggiornamento del software interno, così da eliminare eventuali bugs rilevati.

Devo dire che avere il navigatore non significa non guardare la cartina, anzi, è bene controllare sempre la strada che si fa, però posso affermare con tranquillità che spesso questo strumento mi ha evitato della strada inutile e con il camper non è cosa da poco.

Sarà anche altrettanto ovvio, ma quando scendo dal camper, così come dall'auto, non lascio mai installata neanche la staffa vuota, così come metto via anche il filo dell'alimentazione.

It doesn't matter what your business is, it could be a cafe, a stationery shop, a dentist or pretty much anything. Car navigation systems allow people to search for businesses by category, close to where the car is at the time or close to the destination the driver is going to.

For example, let's say someone is going to Rotorua for a sporting event and they need to buy some new runners or a spare bike tyre, they can then find your business without any local knowledge or needing the Internet or a phone book.

The service to you is totally free, the only catch is that you have to log on to your free account at AA Maps at least once a year to confirm that your information is still current.

Stringing can be defined as dancing with glowsticks while they are attached to strings (most members use laces) and incorporates string manipulations, foot movement and full body movement while using the glowsticks to create patterns.

Alot of our members do start off with one or the other and eventually have detailed knowledge of one with basic knowledge of the other or become proficient at both styles.

Co zatem mogą zgłaszać kierowcy w czasie jazdy? Pomijam tu fakt, że w zasadzie jakiekolwiek manipulowanie przy klawiaturze w czasie jazdy jest bardzo niebezpieczne. Może to zrobić na przykład pasażer.

Najprostsze są dane punktowe:

1. Fotoradary (lub fakt, że system je zgłasza a w terenie ich nie ma). Warto jednak pamiętać, że dobra nawigacja zapamiętuje nie tylko pozycję fotoradaru a także drogę i kierunek jazdy.
2. Miejsca kontroli drogowych z zastrzeżeniem, że kontrole nie występują oczywiście 24 godziny na dobę a tylko przez pewien czas np. raz w tygodniu za to zawsze w tym samym miejscu.
3. Miejsca niebezpieczne. Te, które są oznakowane żółtymi tabliczkami z podaniem liczby rannych i zabitych (oby jak najmniej!) ale także inne miejsca, które uważamy za niebezpieczne a specjalnie oznakowane nie są.
4. Przejścia do szkoły dla dzieci. Temat zupełnie nowy w Polsce. Chyba żadna nawigacja się tym poważnie nie zajmuje, tak jakbyśmy mieli zero wypadków pod szkołami. Na zachodzie nazywa się kierowanie ruchu pojazdów w takie strefy mianem "zabójcy dzieci" ("kid killer"). Należy przynajmniej ostrzegać przed takimi miejscami, prosić o zwolnienie jazdy  i szczególną uwagę.
5. Rondo zamiast zwykłego skrzyżowania. Często jeżdżąc widzę, że miejscowe społeczności przerabiają zwykłe skrzyżowania na ronda, które są znacznie bardziej bezpieczne. Nie jest to duży błąd jak nawigacja nie pokazuje ronda a tylko trasę na wprost, ale zawsze warto to poprawić.
6. Ulica zamknięta. Kilka razy zdarzyło mi się zajechać na koniec ulicy (nie zauważyłem znaku ulica bez przejazdu) a nawigacja pokazywała, że jest przejazd. To zgłoszenie można wykonać bezpiecznie gdyż z reguły zrobimy je w czasie krótkiego postoju na końcu tej zamkniętej drogi.
7. Dodatkowe punkty na mapie (POI) i ich dalsza ocena choć to drugie wkracza już w temat społeczności.

Punkty 2, 3 i 4 powinny pojawić się w ostrzeżeniach systemu jak zgłosi je większa liczba kierowców a inni nie zgłoszą do nich zastrzeżeń. Punkty 5 i 6 powinien sprawdzić ktoś z obsługi systemu od strony producenta.

Znacznie trudniejsze są zgłoszenia błędów na mapach:

1. Ulica jednokierunkowa. Zakładam, że na mapach systemu nie jest oznaczona jako jednokierunkowa a faktycznie taka właśnie jest. Jeśli da się nią przejechać nie zauważymy tego błędu (kierunek zgodny z naszą trasą), a jeśli kierunek będzie przeciwny to nie powinniśmy w nią wjechać pod prąd. W takiej sytuacji wyznaczymy sobie inną trasę, ale problem pozostanie.
2. Remont/objazd. Temat już poruszałem przy okazji usługi Map Share i jest on bardzo złożony do zgłaszania.
3. Nowe odcinki dróg. Gdyby dysponować "śladem" przejazdu z GPSa nowe odcinki dróg można nanieść w zasadzie automatycznie. Zakładam, że system nie ma tego odcinka na swoich mapach a użytkownicy (nie jeden a wielu) przejeżdżają niejako "w próżni" ze sporą prędkością to wniosek z tego jest taki, że musi tam być droga. W zasadzie nic nie stoi na przeszkodzie aby ją dodać automatycznie do systemu map. Po polu nie da się przecież jechać z prędkością np. 50 czy 80 km/h :-)
4. Błędne prowadzenie drogi. Droga może mieć faktycznie nieco inny przebieg niż na mapie cyfrowej. szczególnie ważne jest to przy skrzyżowaniach czy na ślimakach. W terenie zaś może skutkować zbyt częstymi komunikatami typu "zjechałeś z trasy".
5. Zakaz skrętu. Jeśli system wyznaczy trasę, ale na niej jest zakaz skrętu to faktycznie nią nie przejedziemy. Pojedziemy inaczej niejako objazdem, ale problem warto byłoby zgłosić. Miałem taką sytuację także na mapach Niemiec, nie tylko w Polsce.
6. Nie istniejąca droga. Czasami nie wiedzieć czemu na mapach cyfrowych są drogi, których już w rzeczywistości nie ma. Użytkownicy wtedy często włączają przeliczanie trasy a w każdym razie analizując zapisy serwera można to wykryć. Każdy kto wytyczy sobie trasę taką drogą musi jechać inaczej czyli przeliczyć trasę.

Myślę, że jedyną możliwością w tych przypadkach jest opis użytkownika lub nawet szkic na mapie. Producent systemu nawigacji powinien umożliwiać interfejs WWW do zgłaszania tego typu błędów. Najlepiej jakby kierowca mógł zaznaczyć sobie jadąc na mapie miejsce a potem na spokojnie przy komputerze opisać czy narysować i wysłać do producenta. O ile wiem nic takiego na szerszą skalę i w sposób systemowy nie jest praktykowane choć na pewno eMailem przyjmowane są rozmaite zgłoszenia.
