In the last part of Choosing an Automated Deployment Strategy for XenApp I will discuss installing XenApp via images.

Image-based Deployments

I haven’t really been a follower of image-based deployments in the past. It’s just too cumbersome to maintain separate images for all of the different types of hardware most companies have.

My view on this all changed once virtual machines started to crop up in the data center and this is the topic I’ll be covering here. Virtual machines abstract the physical hardware away from the OS, so if all of your servers are virtualized then they’re all running the same hardware. In this case, you just need one master image.

Image-based deployments with virtual machines require a few tools:

Virtual machine software (XenServer, Hyper-V, …)

A way to generalize XenApp on the master image (XenAppPrep)

A tool that can deploy the virtual machine images (Provisioning Server, Altiris, …)

In one of my previous posts, I talked about a tool (XenAppPrep) I developed that automatically prepares a XenApp installation to be cloned, so I won’t cover that here. However, it should be noted that this process is important for all image-based deployment technologies, whether they’re for physical or virtual machines.

In order to have a complete automated strategy, we still need a tool that will allow us to deploy our virtual machine images. You can use conventional imaging tools like Altiris or have the ability to stream your images on-demand with Provisioning Server (PVS). I personally think Provisioning Server is probably one of the few technologies that will change the way data centers are run, but that’s another post all together.

Machines using the current version of PVS (4.5) do not save their state in standard image mode. For example, let’s say you’re streaming one master image (or workload as PVS refers to it) to a handful of your machines and save a text file to your C: drive. The next time you reboot this machine, the file will no longer be there. Depending on your XenApp implementation, this could be advantageous or not. Most XenApp settings are stored in the central IMA database and any user-specific changes can be captured by roaming profiles, so in many cases this may not be an issue.

Well, that wraps up my overview of the various ways you can deploy XenApp automatically. I hope this was helpful and if you have any questions or feedback don’t hesitate to drop me a comment.

[gallery]
Thanks to thea's blog that I know Lead's new PV Sunnyday was released. I've been noticing Lead ever since they debuted and I have sorta been supporting them from the start. I love their music style especially the rapping parts sang by Shinya.

Their new PV Sunnyday has attracted my like because it's colorful and both song and PV is full of energy, totally a pefect song for summer. Lead really fits the summer style just like Sunnyday, Sumer Madness, Baby Running Wild etc. I really love the yellow jacket that Keita wore in the PV, I just wished how the other members can wear something like that colorful such as the color jeans that Hiroki is wearing.

Song wise it was pretty weird the first time I heard it probably I'm so used to listening Shinya's rapping and suddenly this song started off with Akira rapping. But I must say the song is pretty addicting especially Shinya's part, "feel so high" and "touch the sky" part I can so imagine how great it would be on live with the audience chanting along. I only liked the rapping parts and by the end of the song it was getting boring.

As for the members, I didn't think anyone changed much compared from their last single "Stand Up!" just that I felt that Akira has gotten really tan and I wonder if everyone was sweating badly while filming the PV because all of their faces were shinny.

Forgot to mention about the dance, I like it. To me it looks more hip hop other than commercial dance, like back to the old Lead days. Overall I really love this PV and the song is fun to listen, looking forward to watching a live of this.

Well hands down, this has got to be one awesome PV, no question. As such, this is going to be one VERY LOOOONG post, so you have been warned quite well.

The song is very addicting to listen to, you know that, right? Berryz Koubou has always had that feeling in their songs that make it very interesting to listen to, such examples are "Piriri to Yukou!", "Special Generation", "Yuujou Junjou oh Seishun", and "Dschinghis Khan". "Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance" just adds to the list, and I'm glad. Berryz Koubou will be very successful, I know it! ^^

We know that Sugaya Risako is ALWAYS a lead vocalist and a staple person for center position. To her left and right are Tsugunaga Momoko and Natsuyaki Miyabi, who have also had a decent number of solo lines in Berryz' singles. Kumai Yurina was on the threshold of being a lead vocalist and a minor one, but ultimately she has stayed on that threshold line, getting solo lines whenever the song calls for four solos, and staying in the back whenever the song only needs three. That just leaves Shimizu Saki, Tokunaga Chinami, and Sudou Maasa. It seemed like eternity before we would ever see them be in the frontlines, but there have been several Berryz songs where everyone gets at least ONE solo line, good thing about that. (Now with C-ute's situation, I think they will have to wait a little longer.) UFA has been fair about the Berryz girls' attention, and that promise seemed to be kept with the release of 4th Ai no Nanchara Shisuu. Chinami, Maasa, and Yurina got one song all to themselves, Momo and Risako were given their own song, and Shimisaki and Miyabi were given "Sprinter!". I think that was a great idea, indeed.

"Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance" changed all that.

Enough with my rambling, let's get started. (Screencaps were taken by me off the PV on Dohhh Up!)

I find these costumes for the PV to be very beautiful. I see that they've taken the purple and pink dresses/skirts idea supposedly from C-ute's "LALALA Shaiwase no Uta". However, while purple was the dominate color for C-ute, pink is the dominate color this time for Berryz! UFA seems to see what they have cleverly done; Momo, Miyabi, and Risako are wearing the purple skirts, while Shimisaki, Chinami, Maasa, and Yurina are wearing the pink. Clever, much? lols But maybe it's more than what the fans bargained for...

On a note, the Berryz girls look VERY PRETTY in this PV. Miyabi, Yurina, and Maasa in particular. Risako, I know, is the fairest of all, but she's #7 on my Berryz Ranking for a reason. I'm biased whenever it comes to the lovely Natsuyaki Miyabi, but who cannot resist her beauty? And her voice is so lovely~~ <3 And Kumai Yurina, I've never gotten to know so well, but I know that she has a great voice and her face looks so instantly recognizeable! Or is that because of her height? XD Scroll for Yurina below...

I feel pity that Yurina has to sing, "Gohan wo tabemashou!" twice. Poor girl. As for why I picked Maasa, I will reveal later down in the post. After seeing Momo, Miyabi, and Risako so many times, I've never really recognized the other four voices quite as well. (Leave it to me to do color-coding, peh!) After I listened to a radio preview, I got the main three's voices down, but not the other four. So wasn't I quite surprised to see Shimizu Saki appearing right after Momo's first solo line? Yay! Plus, I like Shimisaki a lot, despite her being at #3. Who agrees that Shimisaki needs a solo song on Berryz' 5th album? ^^

And I am quite surprised when I see two certain girls step up to sing their solo lines, Chinami and Maasa! :O

MAASA! She's so PRETTY in this entire PV! I question her lineage after seeing all those close-ups of her. I'll be amazed to see sprinkles of green and light pink when the lyrics are posted on projecthello.com... ^^ Anyhow, after my rambling, I'm REALLY glad that all the Berryz girls get at least TWO solos in this song! But alas, Risako is still the main vocalist and center position for this song... -_- It somehow occured to me how Risako's "BABY tikitikitiki Suteki Da ne?" line has officially gotten on my nerves. It's just the way she sings it. But of course, if she didn't sing it that way, then there would have been less catchy-ness in this song! :P

As the song progresses, Risako feels pity, while Miyabi and Momo get bonus lines. Oh yeah, but then again, if you want a PV for a song with "Monkey" in the title, there's one key ingredient...

Of course. Berryz Koubou in monkey costumes. (And while the elder six Berryz girls do dance moves similiar to "21ji Made no Cinderella", Risako stands and keeps time while standing in for the ringmaster! xP)

IMO, this is where I feel much needed sympathy for the Berryz. I don't know what their reactions were when they heard that they would be wearing monkey costumes for the PV, maybe they were overjoyed, or maybe they felt worried that they would be humiliated by all who witnessed the PV. But I assume they agreed to this because logically, monkey costumes are a staple element for a song with the word "Monkey" in it.

But look at them! Here they are, acting and dancing like monkeys! I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it feels humiliating to make them do this! Oh yeah, and they're dancing barefoot so they now know what Morning Musume went through with "Onna ni Sachi Are". But what would you pick?! Too sexy or too monkey? Ridiculous question, let's move on. Must've taken courage to be able to let yourself be dressed in a monkey costume and let your actions be recorded for all the world to see.

But Chinami and Maasa, being the wacky Berryz they are, probably had no trouble getting into monkey costumes for the PV shooting, possibly because they were so overjoyed to find that they got more solo lines in this single. As such, they wanted to do their best to make this PV very enjoyable, for all kids and adults wota to see. And they did. Words cannot explain the two pictures down below...

It could have been, that while they were recording the song, Chinami unexpectedly snuck in that "BANZAI!!" at the right time. Yossie possibly did the same thing with "HOW DO YOU LIKE JAPAN? ~Nihon wa Donna Kanji Dekka?~" Just a theory. ^^ Oh yeah, did you notice that only Chinami and Maasa dared to pull their hair back for the monkey costumes?

But nevertheless, I still like these outfits better. And then came a conclusion! When the normal Berryz girls appear, they're dancing by the moon / banana! And when the Berryz monkeys appear, it's daytime! I guess they like to be human during evening in time for the concerts. *joke*

The rest of the PV isn't so special, except maybe for Maasa's "WOW!" near the end, but the rest is self-explanatory. More scene-alternating, editing the video must've been tedious... :P

That has got to be one awesome PV. The limited editon DVD will feature the Close-up Version, while the Single V will feature the Dance Shot Version. Lookin' forward to both! ^^ Although, maybe it's time to do something like what Momusu did in "Resonant Blue" and shoot some extra scenes to have "Another Version", and possibly a "Monkey Version". That would've been cool. C'mon, Berryz! You're one of the Big Three in H!P now, so you need to get some better ideas! With the release of single coming in two days, let the sales fly through the roof and let the Monkey Dance become an Internet meme! ^_^

In this post I thought I would talk a little about persistent vegetative state (PVS) and minimally c

In this post I thought I would talk a little about persistent vegetative state (PVS) and minimally conscious state (MCS). Though this topic may not concern many of you, I feel it should be discussed as the question of PVS is raised frequently by family members of patients who are in coma.

Doctor is he brain dead? Would he wake up? If yes when? Is he going to be a "vegetable" for the rest of his life?

So what is PVS and how does it differ from brain death. I shall try to make this simple and explain with the aid of a crude example. Let us assume a person suffers major head trauma in a motor vehicle accident. He is brought to the hospital and CT scan shows extensive bleeding in the brain. He is in the intensive care unit on a mechanical ventilator while his blood pressure is been supported with the help of medications (we call such medications vasopressors). Now a neurologist is called to see him regarding prognosis. On examining him the neurologist notices that his pupils are dilated and fixed (do not react to light) and the rest of his brain stem reflexes are also not elicitable (please see my previous post on brain death). An EEG is ordered to confirm the diagnosis of brain death. The EEG shows no cortical (brain) activity above 2 microvolts (meaning it is essentially a flat line) and is thus consistent with electrocerebral inactivity (ECI). SUCH A PERSON IS BRAIN DEAD AND CAN THUS BE REMOVED FROM THE VENTILATOR (OF COURSE WE TAKE THE FAMILY'S WISHES INTO CONSIDERATION). BUT FOR TECHNICAL PURPOSES HE IS DEAD. Remember what I said earlier one cannot die twice, once when the brain stops and once when the heart stops.

Now lets take the second scenario. The neurologist examines the patient and notices that he does not respond to verbal commands, does not respond to a painful stimuli such as a pinch but the brain stem reflexes are intact. His pupils react to light, he gags when the back of his throat is touched, he takes a gasp on his own when he is temporarily disconnected from the ventilator. THE NEUROLOGIST RIGHLY SAYS" PATIENT IS NOT BRAIN DEAD BUT HIS PROGNOSIS FOR RECOVERY IS GUARDED". Time goes by say about a week. The patient is now still in the intensive care unit but at times responds when he is stimulated, does not open his eyes or talk but moves his arm if he is pinched. More time goes by say about 2 weeks. The patient is now opening his eyes. He now has a tracheostomy and slowly is been weaned off the ventilator. He is still not able to talk and does not interact with any of his nursing staff or his family. More time goes by, the patient has been weaned off the ventilator. He is now out of the intensive care unit and is transferred to the hospital floor. A neurologist's opinion is asked for as "the patient does not respond". The neurologist examines the same patient whom he had seen in the aftermath of the trauma. 10 weeks have gone by since the injury. The neurologist finds that the patient open his eyes spontaneously, at times even yawns, he is told by the family at bedside that the patient has sleep wake cycles (meaning he sleeps at night and then wakes up after some time just like any other "normal" person). As the patient's mother walks into the patient's room, the neurologist notices that the patient tracks her with his eyes for a short time when she enters. But there is no meaningful interaction of the patient with his environment. It is as if the patient is there but not there. He does not make purposeful eye-contact with anyone. There is nothing in his actions to suggest that he is truly responding to those around him or interacting with them. The tracking movements of the eyes are semipurposeful and so is the yawning behavior--more like a reflex if not anything else.

A person like the one above may be labelled as one who is heading into the persistent vegetative state (PVS) category. You can imagine the delimma for the family members if you tell them that though the patient may remain "alive" for years, he shall never have any meaningful neurological interaction and hence it is better to let him go. "BUT DOCTOR HE IS ALIVE, HE YAWNED TODAY, HE LOOKED AT ME WHEN I WALKED INTO HIS ROOM": they will say.

Patients who are truly in the PVS shall never recover any meaningful neurological interaction with the environment--this is by defination. But as is true in medicine, everything is not black and white. there are shades of grey. Patients who meet the criteria for PVS but then who later on start showing "some" recovery. Some purposeful goal directed behavior starts emerging. So a new category of minimally conscious state has not come into the literature. There have been some studies done to show that the brains of these patients do actually respond and they are far from a PVS. A lot of research is now been carried out to determine how we can benefit these patients.

If the right procedure is followed and the neurological examination and relevant investigations are carried out and repeated if required after an interval of time, most of these patients can be rightly categorised into the brain dead, PVS or MCS category thus avoiding confusion and anguish to the family members.

w-inds. newest PV TOKYO has just released, TOKYO is track 4 in their upcoming album Seventh Ave. I personally think this song is really nice. The first time you listen to it you might think it's kind of slow pace and nothing really special about it. But when I start listening to it the second and third time I start to really like it.

This PV might has no meaning or not understand for some people who watch it the first time because I was like that too. But when I watch the second and third time of it I start to understand it, I think this PV is trying to portray the life style of Tokyo. First we have the family problem within that high school girl then she ran away from home, the guy who is working hard earning money from street performing and the love problem of the hair salon girl. Any type of people will have their own problems but the main point is to think positive and have hopes. I think that's the message they want to send to the audience.

This time w-inds. aren't in the PV that much, I like their outfit in this PV very much, all white (except for Ryohei who have black shirt and black pants). I don't like Keita's hairstyle so I prefer him with the white hat on and I must say he should stop wearing three quater pants, it looks weird especially he's wearing a suit on the top. The dancing scenes were filmed very nice, I think this is their first time using that sort of technique in their PV.

Overall I really like the song a lot and Keita sang really well. The PV is alright but I guess I won't find it too surprising as you watch it for the first time it's kind of slow pace but the meaning behind it is what makes the PV good.

While I was writting this post I was repeating the song the whole way through, so I think by now I'm already addicted to this song. I can't wait until the whole album is released.

So I've got a bunch of posts waiting to be written - and this one, I confess, was done entirely half-assed.

[dailymotion id=x5witc]

Kuroki Meisa's PV for her first digital single, Like This, was released today. Maybe yesterday. Most of you readers, trailing over from the Yamada Ryosuke and KAT-TUN fans that make up International Wota, will probably know her as Sister Angela from Kame's last drama One Pound Gospel. In addition to being an actress, she's a model. And with her half-lidded eyes, she's constantly drawing up comparisons in my mind to Yamada Yu, another model/actress turned singer.

Except the second time I was watching this music video, I started hearing Amuro Namie. Then I paid some more attention to her dancing, and her outfit in those scenes (with the tight and the black and the shiny), and I saw Amuro Namie.

We should all know by now the Japanese pop industry is anything BUT unique. You can only stretch pop so many ways. And to give Kuroki credit, it's a nice synth R&B/hip-hop song, the dance beat catches on fast, and her voice isn't so bad in it, though it lacks power. It's stereotypical of the genre as found in Japan, but I could give this more than a singular listen. But from the layering of the chorus, to the semi-rap of the bridge, to the attitude permeating the song... it's all screaming Amuro Namie to me. Kuroki even maintains the unchanging facial expression, though she showed some very lovely smiles in the drama. So was this done to have Kuroki coast on the tails of Amuro's return to the spotlight? Or was this Kuroki's personal choice of genres for her debut single?

Either way, Amuro with straight hair is utter sex. If the imitation was intentional (and I don't doubt it was), Kuroki picked the right person. She's not on the level of Yamada Yu, nowhere near the level of Amuro, but maybe she'll grow into her own.

This is the opening song to one of the ongoing series, D.Gray-Man, it's a rather popular series, I am sure it's popularity isn't any less than the all time famous anime such as Naruto and Bleach, not to mention that the episode numbers of D.Gray-Man is catching up to Naruto and Bleach, but I got the feeling the D.Gray-Man series ending soon, but maybe it's just me, hehe

Here is the PV, sang by UVERworld, I am sure most people would have heard of them since they sang the opening song for the anime, Bleach (D-tecnolife) and Blood+ (Colors of the Heart) :)

Randomly found this trio band called M-ist while on youtube. I don’t know I always get interes

Randomly found this trio band called M-ist while on youtube. I don't know I always get interested in little cute boys in band, such as before where I got so into DASH!! and this street dance group PrizmaX.

So this group is made up of 3 little boys which are: 武田聖夜 (13), 島田翼 (12) and 田中理来 (11). I remember 島田翼 is part of the street dance group called Prizmax+jr and I used to watch their street performances through a website. The other two 武田聖夜 & 田中理来 is under vision factory (same company as w-inds.) but not sure if they still are. They are also in a TV show called "天才てれびくんMAX" it's hosted by kids and in their show I think they talk about kiddy things.

When I first saw them through their PV it reminds me so much of w-inds. it's like a mini version of w-inds. as there's similarity between both groups. First of all they both have 3 members, second their group name also has a "-" in it and lastly there's two shorter members and a tall member. Also in the PV they have parts dancing in shallow waters, doesn't that just looks like w-inds. Paradox PV?

Well okay the song isn't that great neither is their singing too, but aren't they cute? I think 島田翼 is really cute! (If you don't know who's him when you watch the PV they show a profile of each member).

There's also a few more videos of them, it's them learning a different culture dance. After they have learn it they had to perform it to people who is that culture and get comments from them.

Learning Indian dance
Part 1 - http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=XEjhwVw8HZU
Part 2 - http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=moN7iPfBUZs

Learning African dance
Part 1 - http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=a8EddTnryGE
Part 2 - http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=I7ftmK9lHSY

Photovoltaics are pretty hot right now, and are becoming even more accessible to the world at large

Photovoltaics are pretty hot right now, and are becoming even more accessible to the world at large. I'm waiting for this company to offer an IPO* ("ANY DAY NOW, PLEASE?!"- *pipe dream) on their innovative shift away from the silicon-based photovoltaics toward a more malleable sheeting of solar-collectors. Check out the video below, which discusses Pop-Sci's Best of Green Tech award winner from 2007. Popular Science also provides an animated explanation of the process here.

This guy has been using solar sheets for homes and installing them:

I know that there are a number of people out there who are truly interested in the future of Solar Energy. While, the first photovoltaic cell was actually constructed as far back as 1883 by Charles Fritts for a miminal amount of energy output, now the technology has advanced so far that we are able to charge our cell phones and iPods with solar chargers!

Solar power is intriguing because it is such a versatile tool. Its usage does not just apply to electricity, but also to heat, plant-growth, and animal life as well. The power of the sun stirs the imagination in a number of ways, although the practicality of utilizing solar power greatly is still somewhat inefficient in terms of a standard cost-benefit analysis. Nonetheless, it is exciting-

Solar ponds, in particular seem to hold potential for alternative uses in regard to heat. It would be interesting to see large architectural uses of solid, but clear, and hollowed out columns filled with the salt-water mixture in a home, for example. Or, perhaps there could be magnification of sunlight which would be amplified and collected high above a home and transmitted through a non-transparent conduit into a bath of salt and water below a home in order to heat its flooring.

But day-dreams aside, there is also a good deal of potential in just making oneself knowledgeable about the use of solar energy on a more practical, everyday level.

I had the good luck of finding a few simple resources out there that really show that functional usage of solar power need not be so separate from our everyday lives. As a matter of fact, just by including some of these projects into your existence, it could symbolize a significant shift in America, overall, that we are willing to make the effort to more away from fossil fuels and closer to alternative energy resources:

This, is a "Homemade Sun Jar." I initially fell in love with it when I saw an article in Gizmodo, with a number of them together in a photograph. The advertised company's (Brando) version would cost $45.

There is a very thorough description of how to create your own at NOTMARTHA.ORG, a very cute little online magazine. Another example of a "sun catcher" came from RAINY DAY MAGAZINE (June 25, 2007) , which also has a lot of hands-on projects which aren't too hard. In essence, I suggest you go out, confiscate someone's path-way solar light, and DIY this thing up.

However, should you decide that thievery is not for you, these are less costly alternatives available to create essentially the same object.

I, however, will be considering cultivating this instead for my home:

These are the instructions for making your VERY OWN bioluminescent algae!

A world of good,(and counting!)

A Nonymous.

This is a pretty enjoyable action packed shounen anime and if you had the chance to watch Shaman King before, you will notice the similarity between this 2 anime, probably because it's from the same author/studio but I am not sure if that is the case, hehe

The song is sang by T.M. Revolution, it's great, T.M.Revolution's song is always so upbeat, which is why I kind of like their songs(*anime related*) pretty much and I noticed the PV uses previous PVs of T.M.Revolution, since I saw some familiar scene that I have saw in their previous PVs, hehe
Here is the PV of this anime.
An angel is not allowed to be involved directly with a human
One who break this rule will be robbed

An angel is not allowed to be involved directly with a human
One who break this rule will be robbed his eternal life and vanish forever
My one and only wish is,
for you to smile once again
Even if it means that I would no longer watch over you.

Song: Koi Uta
Artist: Takki and Tsubasa

This song was the c/w theme of the drama "Osen". I really recommend this song. And if you want to see the whole story behind this PV, buy the Limited Edition A of "KoiUta". It's worth your money, if you're a big TxT fan. Even if this is a really short drama aka 20 minutes long. The story as a whole was really sweet and nice, eve if its short. Plus seeing both Takki and Tsubasa together for a drama is a plus. The last time they were together for a drama, it was during 2005 when Takki was playing Minamoto no Yoshitsune for the NHK Taiga Drama "Yoshitsune". Tsubasa was on Ep. 32 playing Nasu no Yoichi in Yoshitsune and that was it. So if you're a TxT fan or starting to be a TxT fan, you'll so love and appreciate this song and so as the story behind the PV. Lyrics alone plus the tune, you'll for sure fall in love.
