[wp_caption id="attachment_61" align="aligncenter" width="135" caption="Official Web Site"][/wp_caption]

Richard Ginori 1735 is a perfect synthesis between great historical experience and vanguard know-how which allows to expand not only the field of porcelain, in a wide range of proposals. The wide range of objects in porcelain or in thin, very fine, or double thickness bone china are ideal for domestic and commerical use of high qualification.

The Florentine Marquis, Carlo Ginori, founded a porcelain factory on his estate in Doccia near Florence in 1753, making Ginori the oldest European factory. Having maintained continuous production through the Napoleonic Wars and two World Wars, Ginori moved to their current location at Sesto Fiorentino in 1949, where the designers continue to draw inspiration from the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Since 1735, Richard Ginori ranks among the world's finest producers of high quality porcelain and for over 200 years is still the symbol of the refinement of the Italian table. Vecchio Ginori white is white-on-white embossed fine porcelain dinnerware collection.

Richard Ginori has been the symbol of refinement of the Italian table for over 200 years. In 1735 the Marchese Cartol Ginori began his work in porcelain at his palace in the Grand Duchy of Florence, moving his workshop to his estate outside the city in Doccia in 1737. Today, the manufactory still lies nestled in Doccia and continues the tradition of fine Italian porcelain. Throughout its history, great artists have collaborated with Richard Ginori to produce many beautiful collections and patterns.

Idyllic pastoral views of the Florentine countryside reigned supreme, and that translated very well into a sepia toned portrait in porcelain outlined by a gold band. And today, the manufactory allows you, the customer, to have your very own favorite scene on a unique, personalized pattern. Whether it is your house, farm, business, or just a favorite view, simply send the picture to us. We will work directly with the manufactory to produce a sample for your approval.

Richard Ginori in order to produce porcelain in Italy like the quality of Meissen, he studied clay and color for himself. In the times of his son, Lorenzo Ginori, various porcelain clay was imported from abroad and improved. The result is the white porcelain called Tuscany's fair skin and this series was first introduced. Ultimately, Johann Haviland’s assets were returned to Germany when the factory was purchased by Rosenthal. Unfortunately, after Rosenthal purchased Johann Haviland, the company was unable to ramp up to full production due to the onset of another war. The Second World War began in 1939 when Germany's Adolf Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia. Again, Germany's people and resources were diverted to the war effort.

Following the Second World War, Rosenthal began to heavily market Johann Haviland china in the United States. Many of the patterns produced during the second half of the century were sold or given away as premiums with groceries. Many families acquired their Haviland China pattern by acquiring one piece at a time, when the family’s grocery shopping was done. The people of the United States favored Johann Haviland’s designs because they resembled the elegant Limoges designs for which the Haviland name became popular. To meet the demand for these designs, the Haviland Waldershof factory remained open through the late 1980’s. Richard Ginori’s products are available here.

The proof of good design is to stand the test of everyday use. iittala products are expected to withstand daily wear and tear as well as survive changes in tastes and trends, to remain relevant and cherished. The oldest iittala products date back to the 1930's, long before Scandinavian design came to the attention of the world. With the thinking of legendary designers Kaj Franck (1911-1989) and Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) at the heart of the brand, iittala continues to be a major driving force of design.

Established in 1881, Iittala has a long tradition of glass craftsmanship. Mouth-blown, non-leaded crystal in combination with vibrant colors has long been a staple of the brand as can be seen in the Aalto vase and the Toikka collectible birds. In addition to the art glass, iittala has proven successful with their supremely combinable lines of dinnerware.

Iittala objects hold a deeper meaning, beyond the shape and surface function. Some may seem ingenious while others are kind and rewarding. iittala believes that creating the perfect glass starts with the hand that will hold it and with questions about what the hand would prefer to hold. All products are compatible with one another to cater for every occasion as well as personal taste. Many of iittala's earliest designs are still in demand and in production.
Now Riedel crystal has come up with a solution: a small decanter which holds roughly half a bottle of wine. The idea is that, as soon as the bottle is uncorked, the wine which is not intended for immediate consumption can be poured into the decanter and sealed with its airtight crystal stopper. This means that the wine will only be exposed to the air for a few minutes, and the oxidation process will be minimal. The wine can then be kept for many days without deterioration.

A minimalist classic, this George Jensen flatware represents the essence of the Danish modern style and has been in continuous production since it was first designed. Used as the flatware of the crew in Stanley Kubrick's film, "A Space Odyssey," the futuristic looking set is sleek, with the handles only slightly differentiated, and the knife blade indicated by only a subtle indentation.

Georg Jensen's early training as a sculptor and silversmith influenced his designs and the idyllic landscape of his childhood was reflected in his work throughout his career. Georg Jensen's interest in nature and natural forms was also in keeping with Art Nouveau principles current in Paris and elsewhere at the turn of the Twentieth Century. Georg Jensen drew inspiration from fruits, leaves and flowers, translating them into silver ornaments. Like other modern artists and craftsmen, Georg Jensen preserved the evidence of process that went into the making of a work, often enriching the surface of his silverwares with visible hammer marks.

Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) was an Italian painter, sculptor, designer, craftsman, engraver, and compulsive collector of printed ephemera. A precursor to pop-art and an exemplar of a post-modernism which would not be named for decades hence. Prolific and unafraid of the utilitarian he created tens-of-thousands of objects in his lifetime. Perhaps most recognized for his Themes and Variations series (which reworked a single image of opera singer Lina Cavalieri he found in a 19th century French magazine over 500 times) his works include porcelain and gold plates, chairs, jars, tables, bureaus, teapots, umbrellas, lamps, screens, clothes, etc. Evidently he once said of his work: “I believe in neither periods nor dates. I refuse to define the value of an object in terms of its era.”

During his career, Fornasetti established his own contemporary style based on illusionism and architectural per spectives. He particularly liked the juxtaposition of elaborate themes on ordinary objects and could find inspiration in and add artistic expression to an array of everyday items: hats, waistcoats, pipes, ashtrays, chairs, plates, cabinets, pianos, shops, cars and even ocean liners. Fornasetti also used variations of the sun, playing cards, fish and flowers as recurring themes in his pieces.

Fornasetti played with vivid reds, blues and yellows in his work, contrasting them with his black-and-white pieces. One popular theme involves several black-and-white adaptations of a woman is face set against porcelain. In one sketch, clouds surround the woman is face; in others, she is winking or her face is shrouded with a veil, leaving only her large, piercing eyes.

In 1814 Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther founded one of the first private porcelain factories in Hohenberg, Germany. His son, Lorenze Hutschenreuther, opened another porcelain factory in 1857 in another German city, Selb. (Selb would eventually become a center for porcelain manufacturing in Germany much like Limoges in France and Staffordshire in England.) The two Hutschenreuther companies were owned separately by father and son, and were completely independent of one another.

In fact, they competed against one another in the business of producing fine porcelain until 1969 when a merger of the two companies took place. The resulting company was named Hutschenreuther A.G., which continues to manufacture porcelain today.

The Hutschenreuther factories have produced dinner services, figurines, gift accessories and crystal items. One of a long line of German porcelain manufacturers at the original Hutschenreuther Porcelain Factory which started in Hohenberg, Bavaria in 1814. The C. Tielsch Co. located in what had become Silesia, Germany, used the blue underglaze mark beginning around 1875 and continuing into the early 1900's. The Tielsch plates are outstanding for their bright contrasting colors and gold in the decoration. Click on link to see a page of Tielsch examples.

The American artist and filmmaker Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola in 1928. There has for years been quite a bit of confusion to where and when Andy Warhol was born, but according to Andy's two older brothers and the birth certificate that was filed in Pittsburgh in 1945, he was born on August 6th in Pittsburgh. Whether or not this is the day he was born hasn't been proved, but it was on this date he would celebrate his birthday.

Andy Warhol is considered a founder and major figure of the POP ART movement. A graduate of the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1949, he moved to New York City and gained success as a commercial artist. He got his first break in August 1949, when Glamour Magazine wanted him to illustrate a feature entitled "Success is a Job in New York". He continued doing ads and illustrations and by 1955 he was the most successful and imitated commercial artist in New York. In 1960 he produced the first of his paintings depicting enlarged comic strip images such as Popeye and Superman initially for use in a window display. Warhol pioneered the development of the process whereby an enlarged photographic image is transferred to a silk screen that is then placed on a canvas and inked from the back. It was this technique that enabled him to produce the series of mass media images repetitive, yet with slight variations that he began in 1962. These, incorporating such items as Campbell's Soup cans, dollar bills, CocaCola bottles, and the faces of celebrities, can be taken as comments on the banality, harshness, and ambiguity of American culture.

Later in the 1960s, Warhol made a series of experimental films dealing with such ideas as time, boredom, and repetition; they include Sleep (1963), Empire (1964), and The Chelsea Girls (1966). In 1965 he started working with a rockband called "The Velvet Underground" formed by Lou Reed and John Cale. Andy Warhol introduced them to the model and moviestar Nico and she sang on their debut album from 1967 "The Velvet Underground and Nico". Andy would travel around the country, not only with The Velvets, but also with superstar of the year Edie Sedgwick and the lightshow "The Exploding Plastic Inevitable".

Andy Warhol was the true master of Pop Art. The former commercial artist used popular culture as the source for his thought provoking works. Andy Warhol sought the truth in the labels spread al over the world by the mass media. From his legendary 'Campbell's Soup' can to his many portraits: Warhol was a challenging genius who turned the ordinary into the extraordinary. Andy Warhol's paintings are available here.
