Now that Gears has finally been released for Safari, this feature should be accessible with all major browsers and platforms (with the exception of Opera and 64-bit Linux):

By clicking the 'Turbo' link on the top-right corner of the dashboard, Wordpress users can enable Google Gears; a browser extension that caches dynamic web content locally. From then on, Gears causes pages to load considerably faster by eliminating unnecessary reloads of UI elements. Go on, give it a try!

Google already bundles Gears with their browser Chrome, so we should expect to see wider adoption of this technology soon. So far, other web apps that take advantage of Gears are Zoho office, the new YouTube uploader and Google Docs offline. Ironically, Blogger, which is owned by Google, doesn't seem to have this feature yet!

The team at Clue Design would like to take this opportunity to remind clients of how important it is to regularly update your Web Browser Technology to the latest versions.

Whether it is Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer 7 or Safari, Web Browsers must be regularly updated for the latest security patches and new browser features that improve your user experience when viewing websites on the Internet.

When viewing our statistical reports, we notice that users are still continuing to use Internet Explorer 6 which was first introduced 8 years ago and therefore is an outdated Web Browser, it is also not fully compliant with the World Wide Web Consortiums (W3C) set standards.

Download the latest web browsers here:

Ricordate: Internet ≠ Internet Explorer. Ok? :)

Per cosa state leggendo allora?

<button tabindex="2"><img src="go.png" alt="" />Μετατροπή</button>

body,textarea,button
{
	font-family:Calibri, "Trebuchet MS", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
	color:#666;
}

textarea,button
{
	padding:5px;
	display:block;
	margin:auto;
}

#options button
{
	float:left;
	margin:5px auto;
	font-size:18px;
	font-weight:bold;
	line-height:16px;
}

button img
{
	vertical-align:middle;
	margin-right:5px;
}

button:hover
{
	color:#444;
}

Go to Terminal and type to enable this switch.

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitDeveloperExtras -bool true

Or you can use xMod to do the same.

Have you even noticed "Inspect Element" when you ctrl-click on a web page?

Amazingly, it would show a DOM element inspector window or inline below the page! You can inspect the source code in plain text or XML hierarchy, highlight style sheet and check style properties on right panel. It's so cool for web developer!

And you see Console and Network on lower left-hand corner. I don't know what's the use of Console. But if you press on Network, it will bring up another gorgeous view!! It shows how long Safari took to load all the web contents in the page and also their size!

It's been over a month since the release of Mac OS X Leopard which sports the the full version of the new Safari 3 web browser incuded amongst other applications - so why can't we download it yet?

The software has already been fully developed now that its available as part of the new OS yet those of us with previous versions of the OS or on Windows still only has the option to download the beta version from www.apple.com/safari.

An update for the Windows beta version was released this week which according to apple, increases the stability, compatibility, performance and security. For more information on what the update included, click here to visit the apple support site. I have noticed a difference in the loading time of pages which seems to have reduced. Unfortunately, theres still no Full Screen mode for the Windows version which is an advantage of other browsers and the view of the source code of websites is yet to be desired when compared against Firefox.

There has been no update for the Mac version, but hopefully the full version should be available soon, albeit overdue. There are still a lot of people who are reluctant to download beta versions.

What are your thoughts on Safari 3 or even on apple porting the browser to Windows?

EDIT 26th March 2008 - The full version of Safari is now available - Version 3.1 and includes some extra features, including a 'Develop' menu handy for web developers.

I am using Leopard with Safari 3.0.4 and mid day yesterday when I tried to open Apple's site it said that I wasn't connected to the internet but I was able to open other pages in other tabs fine? I then opened Firefox and Apple's site opened fine. I tried again later with Safari and it worked fine. I did see many others on Apple's support pages complaining of the same exact thing.

Something different is today I have been trying to open Adobe's site and it won't load in either Safari or Firefox? What is going on Apple?

Apple’s made its Safari browser available for Windows users and I had downloaded and installed

Apple's made its Safari browser available for Windows users and I had downloaded and installed it yesterday. Most of my online travails are spent on Firefox and today I decided I'd give that trusty ol' fox a rest and take out the sprightly Safari out for a spin. But what followed was far from a stroll in the woods! There were quite a few glitches that are irritating and make one scream out aloud WTF! (almost did that twice or thrice :oops: ) A few of the notable anomalies that I encountered are listed below.

Note: Safari 3 is still in Beta (A version of an application that is made available prior to the official release for the purposes of testing) so much of these anomalies may not be there in the final release. So all ye Apple fans don't hate me for this!!!

Clicking on the Taskbar tab (when Safari is the focussed app) doesn't minimize the browser window!

Line breaks are automatically removed when I post Blogs or Messages! The text just becomes one big paragraph!

No 'Open new tab' button on the tab-bar

Inability to save a single tab as a bookmark

Inability to launch a bookmark from the Bookmarks menu item (It only shows the Bookmarks that are currently on the Bookmarks Bar and not all the bookmarks)

File>Open Location doesn't do anything. Keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+L also doesn't do anything!

No tooltips for the menu buttons! I Thought the + button was for a new tab and the button with the insecty image was for Stop!!!

Can't add any other search engines other than Google & Yahoo! I'd sure like Wikipedia, Flickr & IMDB Searches to the search bar!

Close Tab icon is on the Left of the tab! Maybe an attempt to oppose Firefox where the close tab is to the right of the tab.

No Add-ons. At least there are no free add-ons. I did come across a few paid add-ons.

I'm sure there are many more from where the above came from - considering that it is still in a Beta stage - and sure hope that all of those would be fixed/patched in a later release. Safari does have its advantages though:

It is amazingly fast! I fired up Gmail in Safari and IE 7 and even before the Login page was loaded in IE, I had signed in with Safari!

Text is rendered smoothly and neatly in Safari. Maybe because of its Font Smoothing thingy!

Inline Find is so much useful than in Firefox of IE. I tend to read webpages with lengthy text and finding the appropriate write-up is just so much easy in Safari.

Resizeable text boxes are such a boon for a user like me who frequents messageboards and forums.

There are a couple of other good-sounding features that I'm yet to try out - snap back and RSS. Only time will tell how I find those vis-a-vis Firefox's features.

I think I'm gonna hitch back onto the trusted ol' Fox for now and put Safari in cold-storage - at least for the time being. A full-fledged major release is what I'm awaiting to give it a place amongst moi taskbar shortcuts :mrgreen:
