I want to start with the person who inspired my final unit in A Level photography

P R Brown

PR Brown spans many genres with his company Bauda. Fashion, Landscapes, Portraits, music videos, graphic design, CD covers. The list is endless. His black and white images are gorgeous and they have a quality and look to them that I find amazing. I can't explain all the elements of his images that I like but they have an appeal.
Recent works include  the book 'The Heroin Diaries, A Year In The Life of A Shattered Rockstar' by Nikki Sixx and the album 'Saints Of Los Angeles' by Motley Crue.

David Bailey

The above is my favourite book by David Bailey. In this book there is a photograph of Ronnie Wood (that I can't find on the net) but it is one of my all time favourite photographs. The Rock and Roll Heroes prints are a set of photographs from the 60s to the mid 90s of 'rock and roll' icons such as The Rolling Stones, Oasis and The Beatles.
I know an awful lot of random things about David Bailey, such as he, with Andy Warhol, planned to make 'A Clockwork Orange' But funds fell through and we got Kubrick's classic (thankfully) =]
But I do know that David Bailey is a must on any contextual list for me when black and white photography is in question!

Nikki Sixx

So I know he's in Motley Crue and he isn't a pro - but he's been taking photos for years and has learnt from the likes of PR Brown! Check this - you can't say he isn't good!

Well maybe his work is an acquired taste but I love the colours he finds, the gritty situations he photographs - recently he has gotten into close-ups like the one of James Michael and I really love the shots he's done.
But I do wish he would go back to taking photos of loads of subjects instead of tens and tens of his girlfriend Kat Von D. They're good images, but I wanna see some variation Nikki!!

Annie Leibovitz

This is probably my favourite image by Annie Leibovitz which features Gisele Bundchen (Wendy), Tina Fey (Tinkerbell) and Mikhail Baryshnikov (Peter Pan). Leibovitz's Disney Dream series are a perfect sophisticated take on the films that were favourites growing up.
Plus - could there be anyone more perfect to be Peter Pan than Mikhail Baryshnikov?

Ville Jurrikkala

Mentioned him previously but here he is again

Grunge, raw, shock value, in your face - everything I love in photography / Design! He isn't a very famous photographer worldwide but is renowned in Finland! Love him for many of the same reasons that I like P R Brown's work. I'll save you the essay.

Gottfried Helnwein

Gottfried Helnwein is another artist I love who covers a number of genres, paintings, drawings, photographs, installations, film. The above is one of my favourite photography installations by Helnwein - Neunter November Nacht (Ninth November Night)
A huge number of photographs made up a 300ft memorial to Kristallnacht and concentration camp child victims. The installation was first displayed on Nov 9th in Germany between two notable museums. Some people were enraged and cut up the photographs - symbolically cutting the throats of the Jewish Children, as you can see in the above images.
The reason I love Helnwein is because he isn't scared to challenge social issues.

Jez Smith

Jez Smith took a fantastic set of photos for The Sydney Dance Company. I love the raw background in contrast to the beautiful ballet dancers. Don't have much to say about him, just like him and wanted to include him.

David LaChapelle

Is a photography blog really complete without a mention of David LaChapelle? Not a huge fan but I do appreciate him as a fantastic photographer. This is one of my favourite images by DLC featuring Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain.
Definitely influential to a lot of other photographers, and no one else really does what he does - so Kudos Mr DLC

Amongst all these famous photographers I am going to throw in a friend of mine - I think this photo just NEEDS to be included in this blog.

She does very casual images that show a lot of fun, which I think is very important to bring to a stressful wedding! I'm a big fan of the 2nd image I included here of a grooms party. She does commissions, portraits, equine - all different stuff!

Only really seen a small amount of Kruger's work but I really love her use of negative in this image in particular.

Andy Warhol

Ending on a very controversial point - well a number of controversial topics really - Andy Warhol, Capital Punishment, The Electric Chair, and whether this can be included in a photography blog.
Well the Electric Chair prints were done as screenprints and I think I am right in saying there is a photograph at some point!
Probably one of the few pieces by Warhol / Factory that I like.

C'è che ieri notte, anzi meglio dire ieri mattina dato che io mi sveglio presto ma poi mi riarronfo [è successo anche stamattina con la radio accesa], ti ho sognato. Credo che fossero anni che non succedeva. Nessuno scombussolamento. Bene.

C'è che l'estate è finita e si ricomincia con la solita routine: studio, lezioni, caserma sani, viasalaria113, libri, progetti, frequenza. Il tutto, almeno per ora, senza una presenza fissa.

C'è che ho ancora voglia di estate.

C'è che abito in un'altra casa, in un'altra stanza, in un altro modo.

C'è che oggi Google compie dieci anni. Buon compleanno!

Sono una studentessa della Sapienza, iscritta al corso di laurea specialistica in "Editoria, comunicazione multimediale e giornalismo". Come tale mi sento in diritto di esprimere le mie considerazioni sull'articolo di Laura Mari, «Sapienza, l'hit parade delle matricole flop a Scienze delle Comunicazioni», pubblicato su Repubblica il 2 settembre 2008 (pagina 9 sezione: ROMA).

La lettura dell’articolo mi ha notevolmente infastidita, poiché credo che contribuisca - più o meno volontariamente - a mettere in cattiva luce,  agli occhi di un Paese in cui la figura del comunicatore spesso ancora non è ben apprezzata, la professione che un giorno spero di poter esercitare.

Credo che un titolo così incisivo, come quello scelto per l’articolo, sembra riprendere quel filone "apocalittico-zambardiniano" che si è ripetutamente scagliato contro i corsi di studi di Scienze della Comunicazione, capace di generare un allarmismo talvolta eccessivo e poco fondato.

Nel suo articolo, l’autrice denuncia un basso numero di potenziali nuovi immatricolati per l’A.A. 2008/2009, ma credo che l’associazione tra la parola "Flop" e "Scienze della Comunicazione" sia stata effettuata in maniera un po’ troppo semplicistica e vista l’autorevolezza della testata su cui è stata pubblicata la notizia, ho il terrore che essa possa contribuire a peggiorare ulteriormente la reputazione della Facoltà agli occhi ingenui dei lettori. Cito testualmente dall’articolo di Laura Mari:
«Mentre ad esempio la facoltà di Architettura Ludovico Quaroni registra già 2.749 iscritti e quella di Valle Giulia ne conta 964, fino al 27 agosto il numero dei potenziali studenti dei corsi di laurea di Scienze della Comunicazione (una delle facoltà più gettonate negli anni passati da migliaia di diciottenni che aspiravano a diventare giornalisti) era di appena 287 persone. Il "flop" è imputabile forse al fatto che per iscriversi al test d' accesso delle lauree triennali c'è tempo ancora fino all' 8 settembre e, per i corsi di laurea specialistica, fino al 27 ottobre».

Proprio sulla base degli studi che ho effettuato, credo che ogni dato per diventare INFORMAZIONE debba essere elaborato e contestualizzato. 

Concordo con l’autrice che una delle cause possibili di un numero non esorbitante di iscritti ai test, fino ad oggi, possa essere dovuto al fatto che il termine per l’invio delle domande di ammissione è l’8 settembre. Sappiamo bene, infatti, che molti giovani tendono a rimandare sempre qualsiasi cosa fino all’ultimo giorno utile.

Ma a questo dovremmo aggiungere altri fattori contingenti:

• Ad esempio, dovremmo tenere in conto che  il numero di atenei che ha attivato corsi in Scienze della Comunicazione negli ultimi anni è nettamente aumentato. Senza nulla togliere alla Sapienza - provenendo da un’altra Università - posso testimoniare che anche tali atenei presentano una buona offerta formativa. Ciò comporta che il numero di giovani interessati alla comunicazione è sempre più spalmato sul territorio nazionale.
• Inoltre, prima di denunciare il calo occorrerebbe verificare anche quanto è variato il numero dei giovani diplomati quest’anno rispetto ai precedenti,  e su questo valutare quanti di loro hanno deciso di proseguire gli studi.
• In fine, credo anche che la presenza del numero chiuso precluda il verificarsi di numeri esorbitanti, tipici delle altre facoltà.

Un’altra cosa che i miei studi mi hanno insegnato è che le fonti vanno verificate. Così, incuriosita dall’articolo della Mari, mi sono recata presso la Presidenza della Facoltà per chiedere delucidazioni sulla questione ed ho scoperto che, alla data di pubblicazione dell’articolo, la Facoltà ha ricevuto più di 350 domande di ammissione – contro le 287 riportate dall’autrice. Stiamo parlando ovviamente solo della laurea triennale. A questi andranno aggiunti anche i nuovi immatricolati alle lauree magistrali, sui quali ancora non si hanno numeri, dato che il termine per le domande - come riporta correttamente Laura Mari - è il 27 ottobre.

In ogni caso, per far scattare la denuncia, credo che sarebbe più opportuno basarsi sul numero effettivo di immatricolazioni, piuttosto che su stime - più o meno affidabili - delle domande di ammissione ai test.

Vorrei far notare che nell’A.A.2006/2007 si contavano 1217 immatricolati ( 703 per i corsi di laurea triennale e 514 per i corsi di laurea specialistica) e nell’A.A. 2007/2008 il numero di nuovi immatricolati è stato di 1206 giovani (576 per i corsi di laurea triennale e 630 per i corsi di laurea specialistica) con un totale di 6.699 iscritti (Fonte: Unimonitor, maggio 2008). Aggiungendo a questi ultimi, i 1200 posti potenzialmente occupabili dagli iscritti per il nuovo anno, e confrontando con gli altri dati riportati dalla stessa Laura Mari («313 aspiranti matricole a Giurisprudenza, 2.303 a Ingegneria, 11.254 e 1.856 per 1^ e 2^ facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia, 50 per Scienze Umanistiche»),mi chiedo se siamo davvero così pochi.

Alla luce di tutto questo, spero che concorderete con me che l’associazione “Flop -Scienze della Comunicazione” sia stata leggermente avventata e un po’ troppo aggressiva.
Se il numero di aspiranti comunicatori dovesse davvero calare, credo che una della cause potrebbe essere proprio la presenza di articoli come quello in questione, che continuano ad accendere focolai attorno alla Facoltà. Non nego che mi stupisca vedere Scienze della Comunicazione ripetutamente bersaglio proprio dei giornalisti:  in fondo sono “Comunicatori” anche loro.

He's also a minister by schooling and training and a self-taught computer techie and administrator later.  Now he's crashed on my couch and taking the T into the convention center everyday for political planning going on down there.  Like I said, I love him, but he has an idealist streak a mile wide and I'm sure that it's gonna get him in trouble.

Gil hasn't been involved in any kind of politics above the city level since the the SDC went belly-up in the sixties -- he once confided in me that he felt guilty for 'selling out' and not continuing on with the Weathermen like some of his compatriots.

Well, now he's a representative of what we can best call the old-Hippie Party.  These veterans of yesteryear's culture wars are intent on seeing that the New England central government conforms to their more egalitarian hopes.  

And it's driving me nuts.

Gil is spending all his time in committees trying to get a 'right to employment', trying to define a national minimum wage over $10/hour, trying to make all education funding come from regional income taxes instead of property taxes.  When I try and point out that there are more important issues to get defined - common defense, appeals courts, foreign policy, election policy  - he gets strident saying that we have to make sure that the foundations of New England don't repeat the mistakes that made the USA so systematically corrupt.  My retort was that then he should be working to avoid a unitary executive, unless he liked the idea of living under General Carlson's guns for the foreseeable future.

Gil thinks that if the people all get a fair shake, everything will turn out OK.  I don't.  There's always a opportunity somewhere for someone to grab power -- they will always try to make that grab.  The best way to prevent that is to make it in someone else's interest to grab their arm first.  Politics of divisiveness Gil calls it.

My father is so optimistic, so positive...I'm gonna kill him.

So why is it important? Because where as M&M Cru or ACDC  has primarily music video artists, industry dancers, and Hollywood stars... SDC has REAL DANCE COMMUNITY dancers, such as TEAM MILLENNIA,  KABA MODERN, some of the COMMON GROUND family, and BOOGIEZONE!

SO why does it affect us, the east coast? Well we are a part of their community as far as we do what we love to do best -- DANCE! So it comes to no surprise if SDC is something that calls out to you the most. OH yea, and check out the vid at 2:36, because NJ is WELL represented in the vid as well. haha

Profitant de ce que, ces temps-ci, quelque fois, il ferait presque beau et chaud à Paris, j'ai relancé ma consommation de glaces. Et j'en ai même profité, avec l'aide de ma petite famille, pour visiter plusieurs maisons afin de faire des dégustations comparatives : Haagen Dazs place de la Contrescarpe un dimanche après-midi au son de l'accordéon (faut ce qui faut pour les touristes américains), Berthillon à la terrasse du Flore en l'Île un jeudi soir vers 23h30 et ce soir-même, Amorino dans le Marais. Si pour l'endroit je me laisse facilement tentée par la terrasse de l'île Saint Louis (mais gare au prix, 9 euros les deux boules tout de même !), il n'y a pas photo, les meilleures sont celles d'Amorino, et en plus, on ne paye pas au nombre de parfums mais à la taille du pot, et ça, c'est royal (au top donc pour le rapport qualité/prix). Franchement, Haagen Dazs, peuvent aller se rhabiller, eh ouais ! Pour compléter le tableau, il me faudrait faire un petit tour chez Ben & Jerry's (hum, Chunky Monkey, parait qu'il y en a chez Miranda Oberkampf) et chez Nardone, sur les quai de Saône.

Sinon, ces temps-ci, j'ai eu de drôles de réaction par rapport à mon blog, des trucs inattendus. L'une très gentille, du site Zolimôme qui distribue des fringues et doudous de créateurs, et m'a proposé de mettre dans sa galerie quelques-unes de mes créations pour la Demoiselle (visible ici), d'autres très chouettes aussi, de la copine du Père Noël (ses créations sont là) et du copain du Goûter, mais aussi une plutôt négative, et là ça m'a vraiment surprise. C'est à la fin de ce post. Je ne m'attendais pas à quelque chose d'aussi vif, surtout de la part de quelqu'un qui me connait (et en plus, je ne savais même pas qu'elle me lisait !) Comme quoi, hein, les blogs, ça mène à tout ! Et d'ailleurs, en parlant de blogs, terminons sur une note positive, je suis tombée par hasard sur les Gourmandises de Sophie, et j'ai très très envie de tenter sa tarte aux fraises... À bon entendeur, bonsoir !

Par ailleurs, j'ai appris l'existence récemment d'un très sérieux classement mondial de 97 pays en fonction de l'état de bien-être et de bonheur de leurs ressortissants (notion totalement subjective bien-sûr). C'est même paru dans le très sérieux Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Eh bien d'après le classement, la France est au 37ème rang seulement (ceci dit, on sait bien que les Français sont toujours en train de se plaindre de leur sort...) Et le trio de tête est constitué par le Danemark, Porto Rico et la Colombie ?!! Quant à la Suisse, chère (d)ame souris, elle est 7ème, de quoi faire envie.

Et puis voilà, hier et aujourd'hui, alors que nous sommes en plein milieu de semaine, j'avais la Demoiselle avec moi. Alors on fait un peu shopping et beaucoup de temps au square. Ouaouh, là encore il y aurait de quoi alimenter mon étude anthropologique du square, surtout qu'en semaine c'est plutôt des nounous qu'on y croise, en lieu et place des parents. Je suis donc passée hier dans ma librairie préférée, où la Demoiselle a tout de suite vu un Louloup dans la vitrine, où nous avons écouté toutes les deux des extraits de Pierre et le Loup, et où elle s'est amusée à monter-descendre 3 marches pendant que j'ai fait le plein de BD : les deux derniers opus de Frederik Peeters que j'adore, Ruminations chez Atrabile, et Bangkok-Belleville, le tome 2 de sa série policière RG avec Pierre Dragon, et puis aussi une compil' de F'murrr, le BÊÊÊÊSTes oF Le Génie des Alpages, ça c'est pour partager avec ma Nièce, et j'ai craqué pour un énième petit carnet, à défaut d'acheter trois ou quatre nouveaux moleskines, j'ai pris un truc d'une marque japonaise dont la couverture met en évidence quelques stations de métro de la ligne 9, ma ligne donc. je me garde toutes ces BD pour les vacances, et le petit carnet, ben on verra bien... Et aujourd'hui, virée à la Fnac pour choper Seeing Sounds, le dernier album de NERD, (spéciale dédicace à P*, qui aurait du/a/devrait pondre aujourd'hui son 2ème ! I'm thinking of you, dear...), et puis dans la série My PlayList By, celle de Llorca, on avait déjà celle de DJ Cam qu'on aime beaucoup, alors pourquoi pas (cependant je ne connais pas ce Llorca, mais je sais que Joey Starr a en sorti une aussi dans cette série, j'me demande si je ne vais pas me la procurer...) Pour tout dire, je suis assez déçue par NERD, je préférais les deux précédents, et pour l'instant cette sélection de Llorca me paraît plutôt pas mal. En sortant de la Fnac, on a vu passer au dessus du petit génie de la Bastille tous les avions de l'armée, en pleine répétition du défilé du 14 juillet. Ça nous a beaucoup impressionné la Demoiselle et moi !

Et puis je me suis aussi procuré deux places pour le concert d'Arthur H à l'Élysée Montmartre en novembre prochain, Yes ! J'ai honte mais je dois confesser, c'est incroyable, que je ne l'ai jamais vu en concert, mauvais concours de circonstances à chaque fois qu'une occasion s'est présentée. Et sinon, je suis en train de finir la série des Doggy Bag de Philippe Djan. Sans aucun doute, la saison 6 est la plus déjantée, même si toute cette folie pointait déjà son nez à maintes reprises dans les saisons précédentes. Dur d'en dire plus, j'avoue que le style de Djan ne me laisse pas indifférente, je n'ai rien lu d'autre de lui cependant. Cette série-là est tellement télévisuelle, que j'ai du mal à voir ça comme un roman. Enfin, côté musique, je ne saurais trop vous recommander d'aller faire un tour sur l'éminent blog Le Goûter du Mercredi tenu par un vieux de la vieille, SdC (remember LPFDM...) qui m'a fait l'honneur d'une chouette visite impromptue la semaine dernière. Que du bon son ! Last but not least, on a enfin pris nos billets pour NYC, va falloir que je remette à jour ma liste de bonnes adresses, tant de trucs à faire là-bas.

Must not turn this into a rant, must not turn this into a rant. Must write clever, concise article and not just ramble about how bad the endings of Tanemura Arina* series are. God Help me I sound like Bridget Jones (145lbs, cigarettes:0 Alcohol units: 4). Incidentally Bridget Jones’ Diary had “The other man” stereotype. (HAH! Am totally on topic!). Moving right along. The other man. That good ol’ shoujo cliché. As common in shoujo as a weak/outcast.werid kid becoming the best fighter/card gamer/ critter collector is in shounen. It generally involves two guys.

Guy the first: childhood friend, a bit rude, girl spends a lot of time with him, good looking but more manly than guy the second, he secretly likes her, tells her when she’s being an idiot, he’s not particularly sympathetic and will probably be fighting with the heroine at the start of the series.

Guy the second: probably called ‘prince’ at school (I hate that so much >_>), bishounen, more feminine than guy the first, girl has loved him from afar, always very nice and polite to the point of creepy, high possibility of angsty past, girl hasn’t spent much time with him in the past.

Guy the first almost always gets the girl. Why? Because it isn’t a choice of the nice guy or the mean guy. It’s the one you long for from afar, the unobtainable crush and the one who’s always been by your side. In my opinion the one who the girl should choose is the one who’s always there for her. Also because guy the second has a mother complex.

Ok enough with introductions and opening paragraphs. Lets move onto some examples. First up is the recently finished Shinshi Doumei Cross [Gentleman’s Alliance Cross] by Tanemura Arina. Before I start I want to mention I enjoyed this series as well as Fullmoon wo Sagashite (same author). I finished both series which is unusual, most of time time I read the first volume of something then don’t get the rest. Anyway, it goes something like this, Haine, our heroine is the daughter of a once wealthy, now failing company. She attends Private Imperial Academy, one of those private schools that exist only in manga and have weird class distinctions, think Ouran High School or Special A. She ends up the fake, then real girlfriend of Touguu ‘Shizumasa’. Except ‘Shuzumasa’ isn’t Shizumasa, but Takanari, his twin brother. The Touguu family uses doubles, tow people prentending to be one to fiol assassinations or whatever… I dunno the reasoning was pretty vague. I think inbreeding have left them all a little, ah, touched in the head shall we say. Takanari lost a game against Shizumasa as a child and hence became the double. Haine’s favourite picture book and the obliged childhood connection is a picture book written by Takanari. When she was in Junior High she was a delinquent but an encounter with Shizumasa convinces her to stop. Hence she falls in love with both of them.

Takanari is mean, cynical and detatched. However he attends school as Shizumasa as the real Shizumasa is sickley. Together on the student council he and Haine fall in love. Shizumasa and Haine meet a few times and she still loves him. He is the unreachable, kind and unrealistic man. In one of my more hated endings Haine declares she will marry BOTH of them. I mean THE HELL!? (must not rant must not rant). She should have chosen one. It’s not fair on anyone to say both. How do you have a 3 way marrage anyway? Shizumasa tells them he won’t marry Haine but is going to go off into the world and live his own life. Maybe he just realized being in a 3 way relationship with his twin brother would be freaking weird. (Hikaru x Kaoru x Haruhi anyone? At least OHSHC is a comedy).

Ah now it’s 2 in the Morning. Day of the deadline (well kinda, it’s after by my time but I’m ahead of the rest of the world) *sleep* and now it's midday. So I'm submitting this now in order to meet the deadline. Will prob have edits (I wanted some pics). Anyway I'll finish up. The other man is
1. A plot device designed to put strain on the existing relationship
2. Represents the perfect idealised man, who rarely gets choses because he doesn't really exist in real life
3. Guy the first often needs to be 'saved' by the girl.
..... end.... maybe. *sigh* I should have spent more time on this. DAMN YOU EXAMS! Will make up for it with another AMV post ^_^v

La prima esigenza che i ragazzi del gruppo ThinkCommunication hanno sentito progettando Oncommunity è stata quella di creare un logo.

Un segno grafico che renda riconoscibile il prodotto, in questo caso un social network, è il passo iniziale per la creazione di un brand.

Per il lancio della piattaforma non poteva mancare un evento che aggregasse anche offline i membri del network. Tra qualche ora parteciperemo in facoltà all'Oncommunity Day dove i creatori del network presenteranno tutto il progetto.

Vogliamo seguire da vicino la crescita di questo brand in erba, per questo abbiamo intervistato Luca di Bari che si è occupato della realizzazione grafica del logo.

Kemiskinan sememangnya menjadi isu penting terutama kepada negara yang sedang membangun seperti Malaysia. Jurang kemiskinan di kalangan rakyat Malaysia semakin menjadi-jadi. Daripada statistik keseluruhan, jurang kemiskinan bagi Bumiputra ialah 2.1 peratus berbanding Cina (0.1) dan India (0.6). Suatu angka yang mencabar bagi kepimpinan negara untuk diselesaikan.

Kita lihat pula perbandingan dengan negara luar. Ketika ini pendapatan per kapita rakyat Malaysia ialah AS$6,146 setahun. Pada detik yang sama, pendapatan per kapita rakyat Singapura adalah AS$34,152 (Sumber IMF 2007), lima kali ganda dari pendapatan perkapita rakyat Malaysia. Padahal, jika kita lihat kembali pada akhir tahun 1970-an pendapatan rakyat kedua-dua negara adalah lebih kurang sama.

Sekarang kita banding pendapatan rakyat Malaysia hari ini dengan pendapatan rakyat Korea Selatan dan Taiwan berikutan ada suara-suara sayup menjawab kita tidak boleh membandingkan Malaysia dengan Singapura kerana repuklik tersebut hanya sebuah pulau kecil yang penduduknya hanya 4 juta. Penduduk Korea Selatan sekarang adalah 48 juta manakala Taiwan adalah 23 juta. Pada tahun 1970-an, rakyat kedua-dua negara adalah lebih miskin dari rakyat Malaysia. Tetapi pada hari ini pendapatan perkapita rakyat Korea Selatan adalah AS$19,200 (RM66,000) manakala Taiwan pula adalah AS$15,271 (RM52,700), iaitu dua hingga tiga kali ganda pendapatan rakyat Malaysia. Di mana silapnya?

Saya menghargai usaha pihak kerajaan sekarang yang bertungkus-lumus melaksanakan pelbagai projek dalam usaha membasmi kemiskinan antaranya Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar (WPI) di Johor, Wilayah Koridor Ekonomi Utara (NCER), Wilayah Ekonomi Pantai Timur (ECER), dan yang terbaru Koridor Pembangunan Sabah (SDC). Sekalung tahniah atas usaha ini.

Bukan niat saya ingin membawa unsur politik dalam artikel ini, tetapi saya amat tertarik dengan manifesto parti pembangkang berkenaan menjadikan Malaysia sebagai negara kebajikan. Kita ketepikan sebentar bahang politik. Boleh jadi manifesto ini hanya omong kosong pihak pembangkang ataupun sesuatu yang akan dikotakan. Tetapi cuba kita tekankan kepada idea yang ingin dibawa.

Kita melihat bagaimana kerajaan Kelantan ditadbir dengan menyediakan pelbagai elaun dan bantuan kepada rakyat. Antaranya Skim Armalah dan Anak Yatim, Skim Bantuan Segera Bencana, Skim Ladang Rakyat dan yang agak menarik ialah Skim Pinjaman Perumahan, Kenderaan dan Komputer tanpa dikenakan faedah bagi kakitangan kerajaan. Gerak kerja yang mantap dalam usaha menbasmi kemiskinan di Kelantan. Sememangnya ada pro dan kontra dalam usaha ini namun segalanya perlu dilihat dari sudut kesan kepada ekonomi secara kolektif.

Terima kasih kepada pihak kerajaan mahupun pihak pembangkang yang begitu komited dalam usaha membasmi kemiskinan. Kami sebagai mahasiswa menaruh harapan semoga dengan projek-projek yang dilancarkan dan manifesto yang dijanjikan, rakyat tidak dibelakangkan. Semuanya perlulah berorientasikan kepentingan rakyat. Segala usaha yang dijalankan perlulah dipacu oleh hati yang ikhlas untuk mengubah nasib rakyat.

Dalam membasmi kemiskinan dan mengubah struktur ekonomi Malaysia, golongan atasan dan bawahan perlu seiring. Pemimpin dan rakyat perlu sama-sama bertekad untuk mengubah keadaan. Kalau yang di atas ingin mengubah tetapi yang dibawah belum bersedia untuk berubah, tidak ada apa pun akan berlaku. Perkara yang sama terjadi apabila yang dibawah berhempas-pulas ingin berubah, tetapi yang diatas tak membantu untuk perubahan. Keadaan tetap sama.

Jadi kita sama-sama betulkan keadaan. Semoga wujud keberkesanan dalam mengubah nasib Malaysia. Sama-sama kita raikan kritikan membina dalam membentuk ekonomi Malaysia. Bersatu-padu kita gerakkan posisi masing-masing demi mencapai ekonomi yang lebih cemerlang. Semoga kita dapat membentuk suatu sinergi yang lebih utuh dalam memacu ekonomi Malaysia.

Dopo un giorno e mezzo di prove avevo finito la mia copertina. Almeno l'idea visto che qualche notte dopo ho dovuto modificare, grazie all'aiuto di un amico, tutte le misure del formato.

First he's met with North Sea oil producers to urge them to pump more petroleum from their fields, which have been in decline since 1999. He apparently managed to persuade these producers to up their output by promising them a tax break (i.e. subsidy), which will make costly enhanced recovery techniques economically viable.

The total additional output is expected to amount to about 50 million barrels, enough to keep the world running for about 13 hours. Given that petroleum is a fungible globally traded commodity (there's no such thing as local prices as the oil price is entirely determined by global factors), this tiny drop in the bucket won't do anything to lower the price of fuel here in the UK or anywhere else. And you've got to think that if $130 a barrel wasn't enough to stimulate recovery, maybe that subsidy would be better spent elsewhere. After all, given the record profits posted by oil companies this year, I think we could find one or two other technologies more deserving of a break.

The second decisive action Gordon took today was to announce that more nuclear power is the answer to our fuel problems: not just new plants on old nuclear sites but new plants on new sites too. The government's own sustainability advisors, the SDC, have already done a great job of making the rock solid case against nuclear so I won't rehash it here. But it's worth asking what the hell Gordon thinks nuclear energy has to do with the fuel crisis. Because the answer is absolutely nothing, unless you drive an electric car.

So hard-hitting stuff all round from the team in Number 10. Confronted with a transport energy crisis, they're demonstrating their competence by launching two useless and irrelevant (but environmentally destructive) measures. Seriously, it makes you want to cry.

We had some great ideas for improving the library.  Here are a few of the ideas and/or tips we came up with:

Before you print stop and consider, do you really need that item printed?  If you do, can you do it double sided?  Or with multiple pages per sheet?  Did you know that inkjet printers are MUCH more energy efficient than laser printers?  Also, don't forget that ink cartridges can be refilled for cheaper than replacing them.

Laptops use 50% less power than desktops, so if you can use a laptop instead, go for it!

Food related waste is one of the biggest sources of waste in workplaces.  Things like paper plates, plastic silverware and excess packaging really add up.  According to our presenter, in America we produce four pounds of trash every day!  How can you help?  B.Y.O.  Bring your own lunch, or if you eat out, bring your own reusable silverware, bowls, or cups.  Bring your own chopsticks!  Don't buy bottled water, carry a water bottle with you and refill that.  The same goes for coffee, have a ceramic mug or a travel mug and reuse it.  Also buy local when you can, that reduces the need for preservation, packaging, transportation costs.

When you grocery shop bring reusable bags.  Lots of places now reward you for not using the plastic/paper bags by giving you bag credits.  Hannaford where I shop gives $0.05 a bag.  In addition to bringing reusable bags you don't need to put all your produce into the little plastic bags.  Your potatoes and onions and avocados can happily ride all together in the shopping cart and in your reusable bag.  The same goes for fresh fruits!  Avoid excess packaging in deli products.  Instead of tons of pre-wrapped cheese slices why not get them fresh sliced at the deli?  One more grocery tip, if you do buy something that has a ton of packaging that it doesn't really need (like tea bags which come in little foil sleeves, inside a wax paper bag, inside a box, covered in shrink wrap) there's always (or almost always) a number on the side of the box.  Give them a call and let them know you're not interested in having so much packaging.  Also if you're choosing NOT to buy something because of excess packaging tell them that as well.

At home: unplug appliances when they're not being used.  They suck up energy even when turned off!  Just pull the plug on them until you need them.  Televisions are huge energy hogs especially.  Our presenter said they almost use MORE when they're turned off than when they're actually on.  That's CRAZY!  Replacing regular lightbulbs with compact fluorescent ones is also an excellent idea.  Washing your laundry with cold water, there are tons of cold water detergents out there now.  We've also changed over to concentrated detergent so we use less and there's less plastic in the bottles we buy.  Now if only I could get them to refill my detergent bottles!
