Here in Dublin The new Foreign Minister Micheál Martin kicked a series of events celebrating African culture as a lead-up to Africa Day on 25 May.

Irish Aid is supporting 58 cultural, sporting and academic events in 21 counties across the island and the Africa Day festival will take place in the gardens of Dublin Castle on Sunday 25 May.

The main stage line up for this event will feature Irish and African entertainers including Mundy, Sinéad O Connor, Republic of Loose with The Discovery Gospel Choir, Motema, Gardiner Street Gospel Choir and Congomania.

'This is a great opportunity for us to look again at Africa and our perceptions of the continent', Minister Martin. 'Irish Aid is proud to support events marking Africa Day in Ireland. Over 80% of Ireland's aid supports development in Africa.'

The Minister launched the Africa Day festival at the Irish Aid Volunteering and Information Centre on Dublin's O'Connell Street, where he was joined by representatives of African communities in Ireland.

Major events are taking place in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick and most are free for the public.

Next weekend, prominent Dublin City buildings will host light displays highlighting the lives of Africans in Ireland.

The flagship event will take place in the gardens of Dublin Castle on Sunday, 25th May from 1 to 7pm.

'Africa Day @ Dublin Castle' is open - free of charge - to thepublic, and will showcase many aspects of African culture, includingmusic, literature, art and cuisine. The event will take the form of anAfrican Village and will comprise the following elements:

The Bazaar

When entering the event and its specially created African Village,visitors will walk through a bazaar area, comprising stands from Egypt,Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa andUganda. Visitors will have the chance to sample wine, coffee andtraditional foods in this area; to partake in a mint tea orcoffee-drinking ceremony; to play popular African board games; seedrumming demonstrations, acrobatic performances and lots of traditionalAfrican costumes, and even send greetings to Nelson Mandela for his90th birthday in July!

The Main Stage

A main stage in front of the picnic area will feature a line-up of leading Irish and African entertainers, including: Mundy; Kíla; a very special guest appearance from Sinéad O'Connor and Republic of Loosewith The Discovery Gospel Choir; Motema (40s and 50s Congolese rumba);R'n'B act, Stone & Jezreel; The Gardiner Street Gospel Choir;energetic dance act, Congomania; Ugandan traditional dance and afashion show. All of the main acts participating on stage areperforming free of charge.

The Culture Section

The Culture Section will feature spoken word performances on themain stage and in the theatre of the Chester Beatty Library. Inputswill be provided by:

• Irish Times writer, Roisin Ingle.
• Founder and Artistic Director of Arambe Productions (Ireland'sfirst African Theatre), Bisi Adigun. Bisi's performance title is 'PeigSayers - A Fear Gorm Perspective'. He will read from 'Peig', theautobiography of the native Irish speaker, Peig Sayers, and explore theuse of a rich heritage of proverbs in the Irish language and in hisnative Nigeria.
• Ghanaian author and performance poet Nii Ayikwei Parkes, who hasbeen invited to Ireland to celebrate Africa Day by the Dublin Writers'Centre. Nii is a writer of poetry, prose and articles, and haspublished three poetry chapbooks: eyes of a boy, lips of a man (1999);M is for Madrigal (2004), a selection of seven jazz poems; and shorter(2005), published to raise money for a writers' fund in Ghana. Anexperienced performer of his work, he has appeared all over the world,including at NuYorican, New York; The Royal Festival Hall, London; andJava, Paris, and often leads writing and performance workshops.
• South African author and journalist, Thabi Madide, who will readfrom her debut novel 'Really'. Her novel tells the story of a blackSouth African woman who moves to live in Ireland and unexpectedly fallsin love with a former Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging commander.
• Irish author and journalist, Declan Lynch, who will read from his hugely popular novel 'The Rooms'.
• Editor of Metro Éireann, Chinedu Onyejelem, who will give a spoken word performance on the topic of Igbo marriage customs.

The Culture Corner will extend into the Coach House at DublinCastle, and will feature art and photography exhibits, as well as craftand artefact displays. The Irish Ethiopian Friendship Association willbe on hand with a display of Ethiopian artefacts and textiles; WorldDesign will display contemporary African design and craft; the'Building Unity Through Diversity' exhibition will offer families thechance to have their photos taken and become part of Ireland's familyalbum, while other African photographs and art will also be on display.

In addition, the Chester Beatty Library will extend its openinghours until 7pm on Africa Day; the Library houses the newly opened Artsof the Book exhibition and the Sacred Traditions exhibition, whichincludes a number of manuscripts from Ethiopia.

Sports Corner

Former Republic of Ireland soccer manager, Brian Kerr, will be onhand - together with SARI (Sports Against Racism in Ireland) - tooversee sporting activities at the African Village event. This willinclude Extreme Trampoline, five-a-side soccer and mini-tournaments forall ages. The Ugandan Association of Ireland will also give somedemonstrations of netball, one of the most popular sports in Uganda.

Open Area and Kids' Corner

In the Kids' Corner, there will be a story-telling area,face-painting and fun activities focusing on different aspects ofAfrican culture. Older children can participate in workshops onbracelet-making.

Traditional African Dancers, hair-braiders and face-painters willmingle in the main 'market area', which will be set in front of themain stage.

In a corner of the market area, a group of Zambian artists willcreate a mural of Africa using newspaper images and materials fromAfrica. Visitors will be encouraged to contribute to the process.

Film

Screenings of the acclaimed animated film 'Kirikou and theSorceress' will take place. Taking its artistic inspiration fromAfrican sculpture and Egyptian art - and featuring an authenticsoundtrack from Senegalese musician Youssou N'dour - the film will beappreciated by parents and children alike.

Eating

Visitors to Africa Day @ Dublin Castle are encouraged to bringpicnics and to stay for a few hours to soak up the carnival atmosphere.African food will also be available for sale, with the renowned SilkRoad Café providing catering facilities.

Prizes and Treats

Traidlinkswill provide tea, coffee and fruit, as well as offering two familyhampers for winners of the Africa Day Quiz. Silk Road Café will alsooffer a family hamper for the quiz, while Edun Clothing will provide100 per cent organic cotton t-shirts from Africa as prizes for thoseparticipating in sporting events.

    Es curioso, hice algunos amigos, pero como yo mismo unos entraban y luego dejaban de hacerlo. Si me lo preguntan, le puedes dar items ayudarles, pero lo cierto es que si no aprecian y entienden el juego no tiene caso. Por que no durarian jugando.

    Aun que después de tanto tiempo, de darle vueltas al asunto, lo cierto es que desde que me encarcelarón sin razón. Se me había quitado las ganas de jugar. Aun que tuve suerte por que al GM que me encarcelarón lo sacarón del juego el daño ya estaba hecho.

    Se puede decir que ya he pasado por el Mir2, Mir3, Ro y Ro2 actualmente, pero ciertamente creo que ya es hora de dejar atrás esos juegos, por que las personas que quisiera ver en el ya no estan ni ahí.

    Poximamente, he decidido hacer algunas otras cosa, tal vez mi propio server de RO, quien sabe ^.^ ya no juego tanto y casi no me llama la atención jugarlo me di cuenta que lo que más me gustaba del juego era hacer Pj's y levearlos para ver sus poderes, era algo que no podia evitar hacer.

    Espero que pueda hacer muchas más cosas. Tengo algunos recuerdos del juego y no le olvidaré. Las cosas que he aprendido del juego.

    Hablando de otras cosas, los Animes actuales me ha dejado mucho que desear creo que ahora si ya no tienen más que sacar algo así como en Hollywood, que ahora se ha puesto a sacar peliculas de Comic y Anime con Transformer y por ahi escuche que tal vez Macross o también conocido como Robotech el cual espero verlo.

    Druaga no To the Aegis of Uruk pues al parecer es Aventura y un poquito echi, pero va más o menos bien, espero que se desarrolle un poco más la historia.

    La de Saint Seiya Meio Hades Elysion-hen en el cual va actualmente en la 4ta OVA, y las armaduras Divinas.

A minissérie enfoca um tema tão espinhoso que foram necessários cinco anos de negociação com as autoridades mexicanas até se conseguir autorização para as filmagens. Ela vai para a cadeia após cometer, por ciúmes, um crime. Em torno dessa personagem, vivida por Ana de La Reguera, uma das atrizes mais famosas do país, é desenvolvido o argumento básico da minissérie: qualquer um pode terminar numa cela. E o que acontece lá dentro, por mais arbitrário, corrupto, assustador e violento, não será muito diferente do que se vive do lado de fora.

There’s good, and then there’s the bad. Here’s the good:

Repicheep. YES, they did him perfectly! It brought me joy.

Caspian’s hair. It was gorgeous…I could not stop looking at it. Wow.

The sea-god at the end. Very well done and impressive.

And the costumes somehow seemed a bit better this time around…especially Susan’s. They looked more real, whereas in the last movie it just looked like expensive dress-up.

Unfortunately, that’s really it. I can count the amount of things I liked about this movie on one hand. In my previous post I quoted eight parts from the book that I hope they kept in the movie. Well, I only saw three. Weak, very weak.

First off…lack of Aslan. He’s like, in two scenes! And that’s it! I can understand cutting out Bacchus and Silenus…but why couldn’t the frolicking scene go on without them?

Also, PETER. Peter’s character in the movie is the exact opposite of Peter in the book. This quote sums it up:

“”I haven’t come to take your place, you know [Caspian], but to put you into it.”

In the movie Peter has this complex where he has to do things his way and always be in charge, and he and Caspian butt heads over this. Whereas in the book, everyone gets along quite amiably right off the bat. Also, in the book, Peter, along with Susan, doesn’t believe at first that Lucy saw Aslan , but soon he’s right back to his kingly self when he says: “We don’t know when [Aslan] will act. In his time, no doubt, not ours.”

That’s one thing I noticed, actually…modern movies like to introduce these complexes into characters to make them more “real.” Is it too far fetched for someone to actually have a noble character? Like Beowulf succumbing to lust for treasure and glory, like Superman having a freaking child out of wedlock…like Peter having this major ego and practically despising Caspian.

Also, it was not established just how scared of the forest the Telemarines really were. I mean, the forest freaks them out. That’s how all the tree nymphs and dryads scare the everlivin’s out of them and they run back to the bridge. In the movie they’re just slightly superstitious about the forest, and they don’t seem very phased at all when the trees showed up.

Um…what else. Oh yeah, the whole “let’s summon the White Witch scene” happened closer to the beginning, and Caspian was outraged at the very idea, not cooperative. And they never got around to actually summoning her before Caspian and Trufflehunter killed Nikabrik, the hag and the werewolf.

UM. Man, there are a billion things more. Oh, they never stormed the castle either.

Oh, and was it necessary for Caspian to have that annoying accent? I could hardly understand him sometimes. Blah.

Seriously…I didn’t like the first movie very much, but that might as well have been word-for-word compared to Prince Caspian. I had hope for it…actually. I thought there might be a chance… I give it 1 star out of 5, mainly for Repicheep and Caspian’s hair.

  Microsoft pega carona no sucesso da série de TV norte-americana CSI, que conta com um elevado nível de tecnologia para desvendar crimes e, em um dos episódios, demonstra sua nova tecnologia de construção de imagens, o Photosynth.

O episódio trata de um conselheiro da escola preparatória de Manhattan que é assassinado no meio da formatura, em um ginásio. Os cientistas forenses são chamados para resolver o mistério e precisam recriar a cena do crime. Para isso, conseguem centenas de fotos tiradas com aparelhos celulares durante o evento.

Então, entra em ação o Photosynth da Microsoft, que reúne todas as imagens conseguidas na tela do computador, as analisa e monta toda a cena, juntando as fotografias em uma nova e maior imagem em 3D. De acordo com o site Switched, a imagem maior formada poderá ser manipulada para visualizações em vários ângulos.

Vamos aos bafóns, porque eu tô aqui pra isso.

So, let's continue the metaphor. How large should the scope of your web page be - Should you buy a warehouse or a small storefront? Whom will you sell to? Is it non-profit or for-profit? Are you doing this for yourself or for others?

After the jump, I'll address my questions.

I remember when I signed up for LiveJournal in 2002. It was my first exposure to social networking but not my first attempt at having a web page where regularly updated content would appear. My first, in '00, was a domain I purchased to host content that I was working on for various underground gaming projects for the Unreal engine. (My first claim to fame being that a level designer used one of my Photoshop textures in the Dreamcast port of Unreal Tournament.)

Whereas my personal website barely broke 100 hits, LiveJournal was powerful because my friends used it too. Reading our daily minutiae became as important to us as talking to each other. But that's precisely what is so different about social media today. Now, we realize that our musings and ramblings are hardly worth the bandwidth. We strive today (as a result of our stumbling into the professional world) to make our posts relevant, informative and at least entertaining. That's not to say, however, that a blog shouldn't inform friends and family on our lives.

The scope of my website will incorporate several strategies:

1. Professional Portfolio
   First and foremost, my site will be a place to document my progress as a Journalist. My portfolio and resume will be easily accessible in the main navigation of the website.
2. Professional Musings
   The "blog" element of the site will not be a diatribe of co-workers and employers but a critique of the media and happenings of or relating to Philadelphia as I see it. In addition, I hope to channel my tech background to help journalists find tools in the emerging worlds of new media, social networking and citizen journalism that will strengthen their careers.
3. Personal Musings
   Lastly, I would like to incorporate an element of personal musing to bring the page a little down to earth. A user-controlled "data-feed" will showcase RSS updates of various web 2.0 accounts: Twitter, Flickr, Google Reader Shared Items, and so forth. I dig the old Gawker style categories that appear at the top of the page that allow the user to control what content they are viewing. In the same way, my users will be able to decide what content they want to see: All, Professional Musings, Journalism Technology, Personal Data-Feed. That way, whether a close friend is checking up on me or a journalism student stumbles upon my website, they're in control of what content they receive.

Book five in the Margaret series is Fernley House. Margaret and Uncle John have just sent Basil and Susan D. home to their father for the summer, and they're feeling kind of lonely, so they invite a bunch of people to stay: Peggy, her brother Hugh and sister Jean, and Gerald Merryweather and his twin Philip. Also staying in the neighborhood fr the summer is Peggy's friend Grace Wolfe, who is the paid companion of an invalid who lives nearby.

Grace is probably the best part of this book. As well as still preferring to enter and leave houses via the windows, she's decided to cure her employer's ailment by taking everything she says literally -- so when the woman says she never wants to see a particular dress again, Grace tears it up, and when she says she doesn't want to see Grace until the following morning, Grace goes and spends the day at Fernley House.

Grace would be as awesome in this as she was in Peggy except that Hugh falls in love with her. I mean, she falls in love with him too, but in doing so she becomes less individual.

Presumably the same thing will happen to Margaret when she inevitably realizes that she's in love with Gerald.

Pushing Daisies - Girth (1x05)
Não sei, foi legal, mas não tanto quanto os outros. Com Ned e Chuck lidando com o beijo entre Olive e Ned, que movimentou a vida de todos. Tivmos mais diálogos românticos, com Chuck dizendo não ligar dele com outras e com Emerson pensando porque sempre está lá nessas horas. E quanto ao caso, o dono de uma empresa com relação a animais é assassinado por uma de suas esposas, que são quatro. Tudo foi o plano da primeira que, já irritada por não ser mais a única, se aproxima do cachorro perfeito que o marido criou, e quando soube que ele iria fazer uma produção em massa, o matou. Só que a confusão ocorreu porque as outras não sabiam quem era a culpada, mas todas amava a cadela, e uma dela até a salvou, fingindo que ela estava morta. Mas o melhor foi Emerson, que por mais que não goste, começou a se aproximar de uma das esposas, que era bem estranha, por sinal.

Samantha Who? - The Girlfriend (1x10)
Mais um episódio hilário, em que nossa protagonista estava super simpátia e super legal. Ela "enfrentando a namorada de Todd, armando para ela e até dando uma de CSI para descobrir as armações da outra foi hilário. E, temos que dizer, a outra é completamente maluca. Sério, muito mesmo. E também me diverti muito com Dena e a mãe de Sam, que beberam todas e se vingaram das decepções do passado. Aquele coelho horrível no meio da sala foi hilário!

Samantha Who? - The Boss (1x11)
Foi até legalzinho, mas já teve melhores. Dena escrevendo um romance foi meio ridículo, e aquele milionário que cismou com a Sam foi pior ainda. E ainda teve ela com stalker, o que pra mim forçaram demias. Mas pelo menos de bom teve Sam e Andrea. Elas são emlhores amigas e, pra não ficarem sozinhas, preferem se sabotar. Mesmo às vezes as magoando, elas querem  ser amigas e permanecer juntas, e isso foi até legal!
