The Perfect Swing - Never Giving Up

I've been looking at this motion in the clip posted below, and I can't believe I'm near the end of the journey. The swing motion on the clip is pretty good, but not perfect, of course.

The thing I can't believe is that I actually know exactly what's wrong with the motion which was recorded last Tuesday. It took nearly a full week thinking about it, and when I did figure out why I had the slight "up motion" at the end of the back swing near the top, I breathed a huge sigh of mingled relief and elation.

It's the positioning, of course, but I had to figure out exactly what about the positioning was off, if I was ever going to perfect my thoughtless swing. I wasn't going to leave it to the odds of 70% or higher that I'd hit a great shot, with a mixture of practice and hand-eye coordination. I wanted the perfect positioning that would create my perfect motion, and although I was positive I had it before I went out last week, looking at the video of even my best swings told me something was still missing.

-----

You can see the effects of the flaw in this picture below, at the top. There is a definite "out of position" look to this middle shot, and I figured out what was causing it.

Better yet, I figured out something else that has to do with the address positioning for all clubs that I'd never had a clue existed...to keep the club face absolutely square through impact no matter how hard you're swinging with any club in the bag.

Basically, just the final adjustments that differentiate the Standard Athletic Golf Swing from the Long-Drive Golf Swing.

That all...

Believe me, the closer you get to the finished motion, the more difficult it is to find and fix the little flaws.

What I was missing was a little piece to add to my Position Theory Part 5 from my 10-Part Method of building the perfect long-driving and accurate swing. As I've said, the standard athletic swing is finished, and I've been spending the last few weeks trying to break the code to the ultimate golf swing motion, the power swing.

Tomorrow's weather is looking beautiful to take my video of the adjustments, as well...in the mid-teen Celcius with a little cloud to reduce the glare. Should be some great video.

Tomorrow could be the day I get the Long-Drive swing in it's perfect Positioning on video.

Stay tuned.

I was watching the PGA Championship last month and saw something during the coverage that literally made my jaw drop.

It was that nearly every player was using some sort of device, drill or gimmick to try to "ingrain" their swing while on the practice range hitting balls.

It was bizarre.

I'll tell you, very bluntly, why I hate training devices and drills.

It's because they don't address the fundmental flaw you're trying to fix.

For example: Vijay Singh likes to practice hitting balls with a water bottle inches away from his ball, so he doesn't come outside-in or over the top during the down swing.

I.find.this.bizarre.

If Vijay is coming outside-in or over the top on his down swing, it's because he's standing over the ball in a position to do so. All he's doing, if he doesn't change his address position, is practicing a swing from a position where his body naturally will swing the club outside-in or over the top during the downswing.

Wouldn't it be so much easier to adjust his stance and alignment so that the swing is square coming down?

Then what happens when Vijay is out on the course and hits the exact type of shot he's set himself up to hit with his Address Positioning?

He gets all upset.

No water bottle to help him out...

And that's why he should ditch that water bottle and fix his positioning...

I wrote a blog post a couple of months ago, on how Vijay used the Pulley-Leverage swing motion, and on how he's out of position with relation to his ball placement.

Imagine how much better he'd be then, without having to hit balls all day just to avoid hitting a bottle...

One of the fundamental problems troubling the overwhelming majority of golfers who struggle with their swings, from the outright beginner to the seasoned pro, is their Address Position flaws.

I'll prove it to you- The next time you're watching a golf tournament on television, watch how long it takes even the "best" players to get comfortable over the ball. It's like waiting for paint to dry. Or the grass to grow.

They take forever.

And that's because most golfers have made themselves adopt address positions which do not match their natural balance and comfort. Golf is the only game or "sport" I can think of where people do what they're told to do by others, however unnatural it feels.

Do you ever have that "who knows where this ball is going to go" feeling just before you swing? Do you know what that feeling is? It's your body and your eyes telling you, "Hey, you're not standing correctly," or "Your ball is in the wrong place, you're not going to be able to hit it solidly standing like that..."

So, you fuss and waggle and fidget and squirm and wiggle, trying to get comfortable over the ball.

It's your Address Position that's giving you fits.

If you're standing over the ball balanced and comfortable, you should be able to start your swing literally seconds after you put your club behind the ball to take your address.

-----

Balanced & Athletic Address Position

The longer you take to get comfortable over a ball, the more that should tell you that whatever you do when you start your swing, a good shot from there will be a matter of luck or simply hitting balls until you are somehow able to hit those balls from out of position, as most pros have learned to do.

And then, you're not out of the woods yet, either, because the minute you run into a stressful spot during a round or tournament, the more likely you are to hit a bad shot from out of position.

Or, if you're really lucky, you'll train yourself so thoroughly to hit balls from the wrong position that, one day, you'll throw your back out, like Fred Couples, or gradually ruin a part of your body, like a knee, or hip joint, or shoulder or wrist.

Hurting your body playing golf is not a natural thing, whatever the "experts" say. Sam Snead, Mike Austin, Byron Nelson, many, many great golf swingers played golf into their 70's and 80's without ever suffering injuries from their swing motion.

If your golf swing is hurting you, fix it. There's something wrong with it, and it most likely is your Address Position. When people on television say, "You need to do this during your swing," or "Swing more like this," they are showing you that they can't help you.

You can only swing one way standing the way you're standing. To change your swing, you have to change your Address Position.

I should know. I've spent three years cracking the code to the golf swing, and everything that ever gave me problems during that time was finding the proper Address Position from which to swing.

Once you're in the right position, the swing is over.

It's that simple...

A propos Steam: Ich frage mich, was wohl aus dem Multiplayer-im-Singleplayer-Modus-Ego-Shooter The Crossing geworden ist.

Erinnert leicht an Icy Tower.

Perbedaan Tampilan

Pada gambar di bawah ini ditunjukkan program yang menggunakan Default look and feel atau juga disebut Metal look and Feel.

[caption id="attachment_217" align="aligncenter" width="398" caption="Metal Look and Feel"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_217" align="aligncenter" width="398" caption="Nimbus Look and Feel"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_217" align="aligncenter" width="398" caption="Metal Look and Feel"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_217" align="aligncenter" width="398" caption="Nimbus Look and Feel"][/caption]

Bagaimana Menggunakannya?

try{
UIManager.setLookAndFeel("com.sun.java.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel");
} catch (UnsupportedLookAndFeelException e) {
// handle exception
} catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
} catch (InstantiationException e) {
// handle exception
} catch (IllegalAccessException e) {
// handle exception
}

Contoh Program

God dipped his hands in the icy water, then trailed his fingers over the land. The humidity instantly disintegrated, all traces of summer gone. Wind leaped inthe heat's place, stirring the red leaves on the trees. Just a few more weeks and they'd be spiraling to the ground.

Clouds blotted the sky. Her hands gripped the chains. She moved back and forth while attempting to scrape the sky and gain height. Music lulled her. She closed her eyes, feeling the wind play with her hair.

The restaurant was a nice Italian one, decked out in the pleasantries of salad before dinner, bread before dinner, and wine before dinner. Each waiter had a tie choking their neck while having a smile on the mouth. She didn't know if the beaming expressions were held securely there by force of their paycheck, or if the youthful servers were simply glad to be taking her order. She doubted it was the latter.

A young woman danced to them, a brilliant smile tugging her lips. I wonder how much she makes. The waitress had her blond hair tucked into an elegant bun, and though she was in uniform, her outfit was chic. While the woman was asking her father which wine he cared to sample, self-consciousness crept over her. This was apparently an exquisite restaurant, and she did not fit the attire. Dressed in a t-shirt she had bought in Arkansas and ragged jeans, she did not fit the attire at all. Sighing, she fingered her hair that was pulled into a ponytail, wishing that she'd left it down.

Once the waitress had left, her gaze slid to a table with a typical family seated at it. They were already indulging themselves in their food. The man, or husband and father she presumed, ate in a humorous way. He would stare at his forkful of spaghetti, then strike at it with his mouth. He minded her of a snake, attacking before his prey could escape. The woman laughed continuously, not minding if her voice was picked up by other ears. She began joking about their money---obviously this family was a wealthy one. "Now Jackie, if you continue to behave this way, no boarding school for you! Act like your older sister, and we'll make sure you get a spot in Yale." The boy, who couldn't be older than thirteen, grumbled intelligibly and poked at his food.

She gave a grim smile. Her parents weren't even sure if they could afford for her to go to a college out of state. No matter. She was content.

She missed the outdoors.

I said earlier this summer that I was going after Mike Austin, and I'm 90% there. In cracking the code to the golf swing, that is. I had to switch from studying his motion, as you know by now, and go on my own with Position Theory, but after just 8 Days of doing it my way, I'm 90% there.

If I was going to teach someone how to swing a golf club in the most athletically correct way, there are ten steps I would teach, the basic ten steps that I built for myself in cracking the code. Right now, I've got all 10 necessary for the simple athletic golf swing. What I've been doing with Position Theory is looking for the secret to the most powerful motion, the ultimate long-drive golf swing that Mike Austin had, which involves slight adjustments to the Basic Athletic Golf Swing to add the maximum leverage and power (not for the faint-hearted or those who aren't in good physical condition), and that's where I'm 90% finished.

I'm just now getting down to perfecting the 5th Step for this long-drive motion, and the reason I'm not yet teaching the Basic Athletic Golf Swing right now is because I'm after something for my own ends, and until I have that, I'm not teaching anything. First things first, as they say.

I'm using the same 10 Step Method to crack the Long-Drive swing that I would to teach the Basic Swing. Let's look at my 10 Steps to the Athletic Golf Swing, if I was going to teach it tomorrow, with a brief description of each step:

Body Leverage & Turn - Swinging the Arms - Now, if you know how to turn your body in a simple way similar to shovelling snow or taking an item from someone on one side and turning to pass it to someone on your other side, then you should be able to learn the Athletic Golf Swing with no physical difficulties.

Whip Action - Right Arm, Left Arm - Most people, including professional golfers, use what Mike Austin termed the "Harpoon" action of trying to pull the club through impact as if they're trying to harpoon the ball with their grip-end. If you know how to create the "Whip-Lash" motion similar to throwing a ball, then you can whip a club through impact with amazing speed, power and accuracy in your ball-striking. It's the same action for the Right and Left hands, but when you separate them and learn each one, you're on your way. You should use a simple stick or the golf club held by the head end swinging the grip end.

The Turn & the Whip - Combining Steps 1 & 2, and learning how to create the whip effect with both arms and the body turn.

Up to the Top - Step-Down Power - Using the natural leverage of the body and the dropping of the weight to the left foot from the top of the back swing to create all of the power required to swing the golf club. Once you master this step, you can "Mike Austin" the ball in a way you never thought possible.

Stance & Grip - The Rosetta Stone of the golf swing. If you don't have the proper Positioning from which to perform the steps, you will never be both straight and powerful. You may have one or the other, but you won't have both.

The Back Swing - Simply put, it's how you take the club to the top in one leveraged motion, winding the body properly so that you can unleash the full power of your body's leverage into the ball from the top. Again, until you have Step 5 perfected, your back swing will be a mystery. Once you're in position, you don't really have to think about the back swing other than, "let's go..."

The Down Swing - This is Step 4, but with the Positioning and Back Swing in place rather than just learning the Step-Down method of generating power. This is where the Steps 1-4 really take effect, and will have you saying, "Wow...that's powerful!!"

The Follow-Through - There is nothing more to be done once you've struck the ball. This is where you separate the useful body motions from the useless. When you see a golfer on television straining at the end of the swing as if they can add even more force to it after impact (Hello, Tiger Woods), what you're seeing is lost power and wasted effort. The proper swing will result in a follow-through that is nothing more than the end of the swing, and it will show you whether you used all of your power into the ball.

Ball Placement - There are two things that change with each club, and those two things are the ball placement and the club you're using. The swing bottom occurs at exactly the same place with any club and swing, so by adjusting the ball positioning with the club you're using, you can hit a wedge with the same swing you'd use for the Driver. And that's how you begin your journey towards shooting the lights out.

Simple Shaping - once you're learned the hardest thing to do for golfers, how to hit the ball straight where you're aiming it, you can then shape your shots by using the exact same swing and adjusting your club face alignment and ball positioning.

So there you have it. Right now, after 8 Days of Position Theory work, I'm probably one more session away from being done. The last two days, I've gone out saying, "This could be the day," and Day 8 was so close, I had only one slight positioning flaw for the long-drive that kept me from saying "That's it..." I was in perfect position for the regular swing, but for the all-out swinging from the heels motion, I have adjustment to make, and I'll have both the Basic Swing and Long-Drive swings down, and I'll have cracked the code to the Power Swing.

Day 9 on Monday. Stay tuned!!

In late June, I met with a family at Katherine Fleischer Park in Wells Branch to take photos. We met at 7:30 a.m. because their kids are early risers and the adults wanted to avoid the heat. However, we got a surprise: overcast skies. This was my first photo shoot without the blaring Texas sun, and it threw me for a bit of a loop. However, the lack of overpowering sunshine allowed us to shoot in many places that would otherwise have been off limits while simultaneously creating a need for me to Photoshop some unusually shady photos that would have been fine on a typical sunny summer day.

The above photo is one of my favorite photos I have taken as it captures this little boy's joy as he played on the swing. The photo below was taken after his sister climbed up on top of the rather strange sandbox on this playground. Both of these kids are so sweet, and they are high energy. I was absolutely exhausted after this session of chasing them around the park, but the great photos made it worth it.

import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
import java.text.DateFormat;
import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;

import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JLabel;
import javax.swing.SwingUtilities;
import javax.swing.Timer;

public class DataHoraDoSistema extends JFrame implements ActionListener {

	/*
* DateFormat: usado para definir um patern de alteração
* de formato de string.
*/
DateFormat formataData = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
DateFormat formataHora = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss");
JLabel lbData = new JLabel();
JLabel lbHora = new JLabel();
Timer timer = new Timer(0, null);

	public DataHoraDoSistema() {
super("Usando data e hora do sistema");

 /*
* Timer: usado para disparar a alteração dos JLabel's
* quando há alteração de tempo.
*/
timer.addActionListener(this);
timer.setCoalesce(true);
timer.start();

 lbData.setBounds(20, 25, 100, 20);
lbHora.setBounds(120, 25, 100, 20);

 add(lbData);
add(lbHora);
}

	public static void createAndShowGui(){
DataHoraDoSistema frame = new DataHoraDoSistema();
frame.setLayout(null);
frame.setSize(300, 100);
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
frame.setVisible(true);
}

	public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent arg0) {
/*
* Bloco responsável pela alteração das JLabel's conforme
* a data e hora do sistema.
*/
lbData.setText(formataData.format(System.currentTimeMillis()));
lbHora.setText(formataHora.format(System.currentTimeMillis()));
}

	public static void main(String[] args) {

 SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){

 public void run() {
createAndShowGui();

 }
});
}
}

I didn`t know how to record this any other way because I can`t plug my old record player that plays 78 rpm records into my computer. A slight departure from my usual 45s-only policy but it`s still a single! I bought this in the little thrift-store in my street for 2 euros. "Lavender Coffin" is the swing classic written in 1949 by Shirley Albert and made famous by Lionel Hampton. Here it`s sung by a Jimmy Jimson and backed by Werner Deinert and his band. At least that`s what it says on the label. It was released on the local Berlin label Metrophon, probably in the early 50s. I`m not a swing expert so I don`t know much more except that this ROCKS! Even more than the original Hampton version!

The B-side is a instrumental called "Mohrchen`s Boogie" written by Werner Deinert himself, that I didn`t record because it was a lot of work recording only one song this way.

I did however convert the video into this mp3...
