Sid Vicious was a prison bitchThe 1970s gave us thousands of hours of music performed by gifted wond

[caption id="attachment_787" align="alignright" width="454" caption="Sid Vicious was a prison bitch"][/caption]The 1970s gave us thousands of hours of music performed by gifted wonderful musicians. But music journalists from all persuasions, from NME and Rolling Stone to mog.com bloggers are each and all determined to retrospectively eject the contribution of innovators like Herbie Hancock and Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa and Todd Rundgren and supplant them in the collective consciousness of those of us who weren't yet born or weren't paying attention at the time, with an ill conceived C.S.E. grade art project that got exceedingly lucky.

A bunch of lads from London, who just as surely paved the way for Britney Spears and Paris Hilton as they did Simon Cowell and the so-called MTV generation, the Sex Pistols were specifically designed by Malcolm McLaren to produce as much return on as little investment as possible. The total year on year profits of Boy-Zone, Blue and Take That combined are dwarfed by those of the band which gave us such innovative concepts as spitting on the audience, on-stage substance abuse, slam "dancing" and the wearing of Nazi Swastikas as fashion.

The social hangover of punk should be familiar to anyone today living on a housing estate with rising youth knife crime, that to engage in the illusion of control over their own destiny, youths must first rid themselves of any cultural or historical awareness, and fight to protect their ignorance by celebrating the illiteracy of their peers.

[caption id="attachment_788" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="John Joseph Lydon, also known as Johnny Rotten"][/caption]Previous to punk the recording industry had laboured under the illusion that for something to sell, it had to be melodic and played by musicians. Punk, headed by The Sex Pistols, set out to prove that this was bollocks; that if you marketed it right, if you managed to convince enough people that they were part of 'something', even if that amorphous something was substantively 'nothing', they would nevertheless rush out in their droves to buy whatever clothes and music they'd been told to buy, and rejoice in their bought and paid for canned identity, as if it were uniquely their own.

As legions of wannabes line the streets of your home town to audition for the next series of (insert name of premium rate phone-in freak show "talent" TV here), desperate for their 15 megabytes of fame, consider the lineage of the manufactured pop act. Its similarities to the way in which punk was devised can hardly be lost on even the least cynical among you, who continue to buy into the bottle-fed notion that although you didn't personally "get it" at the time, punk nevertheless undid decades of pomp and elitism which needed undoing for not just the British music industry to survive, but youth culture itself.

This lofty ambition, inserted after the fact into the story of punk, once its profiteers blended into the establishment they pantomimed such an unconvincing struggle against, betrays the real world devastating effects which punk had on the music business and how quickly the industry learned from it, that to mistreat the ears of the audience is even more profitable than mistreating actual musicians; who for decades before Vivian Westward had begrudgingly accommodated each other in a simian act of mutual grooming for the juicy fleas of commercial chart success, fame and fortune.

Punk tilted this fragile ecosystem on its side, rolling the most heavily bug infested chimps onto their backs, exposing their genitals to the yawning wide open mouths of every A&R department in Christendom, each more desperate than the last to suck down every last morsel of mass-produced smegma which squirted from punk's white middle class brand of boil in the bag teenage angst, until it was drained and the next money chimp to come along was ready for the milking.

[caption id="attachment_864" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Zzyowwmmmm"][/caption]The dawning realisation that while you can't polish a turd, you can nevertheless put it in a pretty box and tie a ribbon around it, came at exactly the right time for a music industry which desperately needed to rid itself of the escalating costs involved in paying people with talent to write, record and promote creative melodic music. The shitter it is the better it is "style" of punk saved many a struggling independent record label, who quickly found themselves swallowed up by the major publishers, savvy to the fashion trend.

The victims of the cull were acts who didn't comply. Look through the back catalogue of any artist who'd been around for a while circa 1978. That difficult third album which didn't sell as well as it should, will contain somewhere on side two, just after the American FM radio rock ballad, a "punk sounding" cut, hurriedly mixed to give it "that raw edge all the kids are going for", as the cooking-pot pressure mounted on artists with any degree of substance and taste to "get with the times".

And now here we are, the year 2008. The music business has so catastrophically failed to develop an on-line strategy, the UK has become the first place in the world to afford new legal powers to ISPs, to criminalise people who the British Phonographic Industry have deemed unworthy of an internet connection; who's effrontery to show their disdain for the way talent has become nothing more than a genre of TV game show, by turning their backs on what "the man" considers to entertainment and instead seek out the sound we love in the collective consciousness of our brothers and sisters in music around the world.

Search Google for live music venues in your area. Go see a band. If they can play their own instruments and you like their music, buy a CD directly from them. Upload it to the internet and tell people who also like it to go see the band live too. No record companies involved, no Feargal fucking Sharkey making you feel bad about loving music, no obligatory fashion accessories to "enhance the image" - you listen to music with your ears and your good taste.

Just maybe, given enough time (although you'd be right to say they've had long enough already) the music industry will wake up to it's real failings, which are not based so much in how to more effectively sell shit to deaf cattle (Cold Play fans), but more constructively, how it might rectify decades of greed and London-centric art-house stupidity, by investing in music made by musicians, the development of artist with something to say worth listening to and a way for their fans to be confident, when they pay an artist directly for a copy of their music, that most of the profits will go towards recording and touring, instead of glorified Pepsi ad promo videos and drug rehabilitaion programs. How about that for a modest proposal?

"Courtney in her long and varied history (she's only 24) has lived through more traumas than most of you f***ing lamebrains will experience in your life."

Quite. If only Everett could have known then that she was just getting started. I remember when MM reported those first, very early, barely coherent USENET posts of hers around 1994 and she's still fucking doing it (click Courtney Love -> Blog). Now click into the photos section if you dare. Finally reacquaint yourself with all Courtney's uppers and downers via her extensive Wikipedia entry here.

Was looking around for something Nirvana related just so I could post this (below), which I saw for the first time this afternoon. Presumably this is well known material I've somehow missed but guessing it'll be new to quite a few of you too. File under bizarre.

I want to take a moment to talk about boy bands.

Kaks has, it's true, already posted about boy bands, and one might think that two posts about boy bands within a week of launching a blog is a little excessive. One is almost certainly right.

But I do not wish to talk about them in their glory days. Because, frankly, I wasn't into them in their glory days. My bad taste developed late.

First of all, I want to take a moment to concentrate on Lance Bass. Because, my god. The man is a legend - or at least he very well should be.

He begins as the lamest member of a boy band (lets be honest - he was) before going to Russia to become a cosmonaut - and failing - then returning to New York to come out - on the cover of people - because he was in a long-term relationship. With everyone's least favorite reality star. And now, to top everything, he's written a book, which the NY Times can't even take seriously enough to review, but which I will, obviously, be reading. Several times.

But the reason I bring up Lance Bass (other than to promote the cult that should be forming around him any day now) is to bring up the fact that I have long felt it's time N'SYNC reformed.

First of all, I missed them the first time round. As a middle schooler I had strong feelings that I was too cool to be into boy bands. As a twenty-something, however, I have discovered that I am not too cool for anything, least of all boy bands. But secondly, and more importantly, I feel it would destroy Justin Timberlake's carefully constructed street cred for everyone to remember that there was a time where he starred in videos as a marionette puppet bent on revenge.

Even if Timerberlake were unwilling to get back with them, I still urge the reunion. Because (and yes, you guessed it, I have done that thing where I wrote a whole unnecessary post just to introduce one link) look what happened to Take That. Glorious once, they are glorious all over again, and have given me my absolute favorite early-morning-life-isn't-as-bad-as-you-think video. Is it strangely stinted at first and choreographed much in the way Busby Berkeley would have put on a middle school musical, but it is fantastic, and I just had to share.

A friend of mine did something fun on her blog and listed her most influential and I’m supposi

A friend of mine did something fun on her blog and listed her most influential and I'm supposing favorite albums of all time.

I shall do the same but I would say check out her blog for her list along with lots of other people's lists.

Even though I will say right now my picks are obviously the best and or coolest eclectic mix out there.

Romanza - Andrea Bocelli
This is my favorite album one of the first I listened to, by one of my favorite artists.

Lost and Found - Will Smith
Not too much into rap but this album was clean thoughtful and very inspiring. I think it is a demonstration of the potential that Rap and Hip Hop hold. The song by the same name (Lost & Found) is probably my second favorite song of all time, it has a great, powerful, strong, meaningful, message.

Closer - Josh Groban
Another of my favorite artists and my favorite of his albums.

Pop 20! - Erasure
Man I grew up with this stuff. My sisters listened to it and i liked it. This is by far the best album of their old stuff. It's their greatest Hits... the stuff everyone knows and loves.

Nightbird - Erasure
This is a fairly new album by an old favorite. I think it came out about 4 years ago and I love the feel to it.

Eyes Open -Snow Patrol
This is a testament to the fact that the older I get the more I am tending to like some newer music.
I used to like classic rock when I was young. I prefer the newer stuff now days.

Beautiful World - Take That
Random, Random find. I didn't know who they were and for that matter I still don't. I hear they were popular back in the day... well this was just released a couple of years ago and it's awesome.

Calogero - Calogero
I listen to so much foreign music that it was a hard decision on a album that was great all the way through. This one is. It's French rock.

Gli Anni - 883
As far as influential this one is importat, because it was one of the first Italian albums I fell in love with.
It has good songs but it's mostly about the influence to the point that I love french and italian music. The CD was a big black and yellow soccer ball... and that was pretty darn cool.

Flood - They Might be Giants
This takes me back... great, funny, goofy... and this was the album that made me love them.
I can't listen for hours on end, but from time to time there's nothing quite the same!

Division Bell - Pink Floyd
This was the music I listened to in high school. I still absolutely love some of the music. But this album was specially appealing to me then and still my choice of all their music today.

Best Of - Def Leppard
Probably my favorite music from "My Era" that i never actually listened to. I thought they were a really hard group because of the name and the rap... but when I finally got around to listening to them and in particular this album I understood what I missed. Great stuff

Honorable Mention:
Insieme a Te - Alessandro Safina,
L'anno zero - Nek,
Centoundici - Tiziano Ferro,
Notting Hill - Soundtrack
Parce Qu'on Vient De Loin - Corneille
The Mission - Soundtrack
In your Honor - Foo Fighters
Je te serai fidèle - Roch Voisine
Seal - Seal
Donde estan los ladrones - Shakira

I blame Abba. Or perhaps Buddy Holly. Ben Elton’s definitely getting some of it as well. Ever

I blame Abba. Or perhaps Buddy Holly. Ben Elton's definitely getting some of it as well. Ever since some bright spark had the idea of mixing well known pop music with stage musicals, the hen weekend market suddenly found a whole host of new options. There's definitely blame in there somewhere, because gosh darn it, we live in a blame society and I want to blame somebody for Never Forget - otherwise known as the Take That musical.

This type of theatre is something I'd normally sprint across hot coals to avoid but the offer of free tickets and the odd idea that I should really try to step out of my comfort zone on occasions and perhaps try something I'd normally turn my nose up at led me to the Savoy Theatre on a Friday evening.

As with a first date that's not going well, let's get the niceties out of the way first. Never Forget is by no means awful. There's a lot of energy, some nice 90s boyband jokes ("at the moment you lot aren't even 911"), and it has some genuinely funny moments. It's certainly passable if you're the target audience. Sadly, I'm not really the target audience and if it wants to achieve the success it needs to somehow transcend the hen-weekend audience.

And that hen-weekend appeal is also part of the problem. There's so many shows like this on the market that the script and show need to sparkle. It can be as ropey, plot-wise, as it likes as long as you get a chance to completely immerse yourself in the world.

The are weird elements that don't quite sit with each other. The Manchester setting makes you feel like you're watching a hyper-real episode of Corrie on occasions. There's also plenty of references to chavs, the tribute band circuit, tacky clubs and the general awfulness of working class nightlife, but it pales in comparison to, say, Benidorm, which is much more sharply observed in this area. And the Northern tribute act storyline was done so much better in the wonderful Little Voice, while the Full Monty also looms in the background. It pulls in all of these elements but only serves to remind you how good some of these possible inspirations are.

So Never Forget falls back on the songs, and while the best-known Take That songs will always get the audience clapping in the aisles, weirdly it's like you're watching a poor Take That tribute band trying too hard, and at this point postmodernist theory probably gets a very bad headache and decides to decamp to the pub for a pint and a packet of crisps to try and work out what the hell its just seen.

It might be a bit cheaper and easier to get to than watching the real Take That live but then there are also plenty of decent tribute bands doing the circuit that are a lot cheaper, which leads to a question that should trouble all productions of a similar ilk: just what has Never Forget - or similar shows - got that the alternatives haven't?

It's a problem that really seems to afflict any kind of entertainment package - be it theatre, music, film, or TV - that attempts to leap onto another medium. It just jars badly outside of its natural habitat because we're too familiar with the original source material.

Never Forget might have worked better on screen than stage. After all, there are plenty of classic musicals than have storylines that could easily be grouped with it - A Star Is Born and Singing In The Rain spring to mind - and in the hands of somebody like Busby Berkeley or Vincente Minelli it could have been a visual treat on celluloid. Even Scorsese's Happy Endings, the spoof musical within his New York New York, worked far better than these kind of shows.

It's a bit of a two way process though. Chicago has been one of the best musical adaptations for the big screen in recent years but even that felt far too stagebound. Sweeny Todd did a decent job, largely because it had the unmistakable feel of a Tim Burton film and an excellent cast. The Producers, however, just felt like a stage performance on the screen and was a pale imitation of the original source material.

With the exception of The Producers, though, these films feel like somebody has put effort in. Something like Never Forget, and to a certain extent forerunners like We Will Rock You, feels lazy - like bolting on whatever they can find to something that's already popular, safe in the knowledge there's a decent enough fanbase out there who'll come and see it regardless of what kind of job has been done. Grease may be a cheese-fest but its light years ahead compared to today's current new musicals, both on stage and screen.

With all this lazy-musical love in, you'd think audiences would be prepared to tolerate more musicals on the big screen, but Sweeny Todd seems to indicate otherwise, and other forays into this genre have been largely disappointing.

Still, there's no doubt money to be made from this. Got a successful film that involves a bit of dancing ("Billy Elliot") - make it into a musical. Got a popular culture figure (Beckham)? Make a musical around it. It almost feels that, in this day and age, if you were to propose Brass Eye's Sutcliffe: The Musical somebody would snap it up.

With that in mind, I'm proposing a musical built around The Smiths & Morrissey. Given real-life events, it'd probably be called We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful and the big love number would probably be You're The One For Me, Fatty, Bigmouth Strikes Again or Girlfriend in a Coma. I've no idea what the plot would be, but it'd be as anti-musical as you could get, yet still be a music. Panic! would obviously be the choice of music for the obligatory nightclub scene, while Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now and How Soon Is Now were built for those lonely solo numbers. In fact, much of the show could be made up of lonely solo numbers. The final song would have to be There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.

I'm not quite sure how I'd work Meat Is Murder into it, but I'd like to think La Mozzfather himself would raise a wry smile. Now, who wants to be a Max Bialystock and invest in this?

A year ago today, Princes William and Harry hosted a marathon charity concert at London's Wembley Stadium to celebrate the birthday and the life of their late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The shindig lasted for hours, with classic music acts loved by Diana and newer artists favored by her sons performing. Music acts were interspersed by personal memories of the Princess and special messages from her favorite charities and causes. Photographs of the Princess were featured prominently on video screens throughout the stadium, including some rare family pictures.

The concert was attended by 63,000 people. Celebrities and members (and friends) of the royal family were among the audience members, including William, Harry, Chelsy Davy, Earl Spencer and his children, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Phillips, Mike Tindall, Peter Phillips, Autumn Kelly and (notably) Kate Middleton, from whom Prince William had reportedly split in April '07. The event was televised live and broadcast all over the world. We're pretty sure it was also the only time that the English National Ballet and Kanye West have ever performed at the same event (though we could be wrong, of course). Enjoy our photo and video coverage of the concert: pick out your favorite royals and celebrities in the photos below, and enjoy selected performances from the day.

I found this comment on an OHLGM* site. It was in response to Idiot X demonstrating their complete lack of brain power by declaring that Obama's father was- gasp! - a Muslim (haven't we been over this before?). At any rate...

In fact? NONE of them! Hell, I wanted Shirley Chisholm in '72 -- a black woman! 36 fucking YEARS AGO! Whatcha got to say about THEM apples, PUMA? You can blow me with your "Party Unity My Ass" bullshit. Maybe too many of a similar mindset to yours decided to vote for Nixon instead of McGovern because a black woman was so TOTALLY disregarded. That's what you're preaching. Bone up on your history before you come around ratfucking here, cuz I for one will school your questionable rear end.

It's ALWAYS the lesser of two evils, my fellow progressives (and this means the REAL progressives, not the rat-fucking shit-stirrers who are especially busy little ogres all over the InternetsTubes these days. Yeah, we know you. We recognize you. We will continue to "rat" your asses out, you misunderestimating fucks.) And it will remain so, with the totally corrupted and self-interestedly entrenched hegemonic Tweedle-dee/Tweedle-dum two-party system we've ALL suffered under for decades, until a viable, truly progressive THIRD PARTY emerges in this country. That's all that will save us, I am convinced. Put us on the right road to that NOW. Suck it up and let's regroup.

I love the bolded part. True blue Progressives can bitch at each other, blog smack the hell out of each, and even love each other (this is a very rare occurrence, granted). But when it comes election time, we don't forget which party is which. We know that McCain isn't interested in us or our goals. We know that BushCo is ripe with more homophobic, racist, misogynist pieces of shit than our side could ever produce. Unfortunately there are still some lost souls who really believe that these infiltrators are part of us. They aren't. They're looking out for their interests- which is to say Bush and Company.

For those unfamiliar with the term "rat-fucker":

[One who engages]
To screw someone over or to take advantage of them. The lowest act known to man.

I'm just thrilled someone took these finks to task.

wow okay so no update for a really long time! I haven’t really had much going on and didn

wow okay so no update for a really long time! I haven't really had much going on and didn't really have any desire to write. but, I feel a desire to write now.

like I mentioned above, there hasn't been much going on. still working lots and have finally decided that I don't want to work on the weekends anymore because I can't take the stress and I'm a much happier and easier person to be around when I'm not stressed out. I figure I'll still work 4 days a week, but it'll be monday-thursday.

I went and saw an academic advisor last week, just to make sure that I'm track with my classes and meeting program requirements, etc. and found that in order to become a teacher I HAVE to take a math course. but, apparently it's the easiest math they have at TRU besides the really really easy math for people with learning disabilities. I've been thinking it over the past couple of days and have decided that I should take it and get it over with instead of prolonging it. my Mom said she had to take it when she went back to school and that it's basically the equivalent of Math 10. I won't be able to take Anthropology 111, which was about human origins, but I can maybe take it later on or something? I also finally emailed an academic advisor at the U of R about that program that interested me, but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm hoping I do soon because I'd like to know more about that program. and in terms of going back to Regina for school, I've decided that I can't be afraid to take a chance like that, and that if it does work out that I'll figure out everything I need to before I go.

I find it hard to believe that it's already been a year since we graduated. a lot's changed in the year since then! I think a lot of us have grown up a bit more/matured more, but a few haven't. in some cases (aka Holly), they've gotten worse. I'm worried and don't know what to do about her anymore. Syd phoned me last week and we had a pretty good talk about all this. she said that Holly phoned her before she was going to Victoria and was really upset and said that her and Sam had had a huge fight about how Holly's been sleeping around and stuff. I guess Sam didn't approach Holly about it in the nicest way so she was crying to Syd about it. and since then, Syd's tried to call her multiple times and left some messages to try and see if things are okay and hasn't heard back from her (as far as I know). this is typical. she only phones or contacts someone when she needs them but otherwise it's like she makes herself unavaliable on purpose and doesn't bother with anyone BUT Sam, which is getting to be a giant piss off for me and Syd. Syd was saying that at least Holly phones her once in awhile, but she made the point of how Holly never phones me ever. which is true. I don't know. I'm still hoping that when Sam gets married that Holly is basically not going to have anyone. most likely, she will come crawling back to me and Syd and I don't know, at this point, how willing I am to welcome her with open arms. I feel like saying "you pretty much ditched me and Syd for the whole year - piss off." but that's just how I feel right now. that could change.. actually more like it will most likely change.

Breanne and I got to talk last week finally! she phoned me and we talked and talked, and wound up being on the phone for about 2 hours or so haha! it was really really nice to hear from her and nice to be able to talk about everything that's been going on in both our lives for the past couple of months (we hadn't talked since April because she was taking a really intense spring class for all of May). she told me about her problems with one of her friends and I told her about my problems, and then we just talked about the future and the past and me coming out this summer and stuff. it was great! I miss her a ton and can't wait to go to Regina in August. actually it's about.. 2 months away. 2 months on friday!

anyways, I'm pretty sure that's all I have to say for right now. byeee.

My general consensus when it comes to ‘passed their use-by dates’

My general consensus when it comes to 'passed their use-by dates' pop acts reforming is that it can be a good thing, when done right. New Kids on the Block* did not do things right.

Check out this footage from over the weekend of the quintet performing at the MuchMusic Video Awards (the host is about to wet her pants she's so excited about introducing them):

Dudes, tell me that gig was intentionally bad. Like any minute now you're going to bring Ashton Kutcher out to tell us all we've all been majorly Punk'd.

Otherwise how else can you explain the extraordinarily weak singing, the camp dance moves (including the cringe worthy syncopated removal of jackets) and the extremely unflattering all-white outfits?

Yeah alright, I know that's what boy bands were all about. But you're not 15 anymore. You're 35 and over and that shiz just looks sad. You should have taken a leaf out of Take That's book:

Take That modelling for Marks & Spencer

Phwoar, if anything those guys are looking sexier than when they were little baby-faced pin-ups.

Or even the Spice Girls, who wisely charged a whole lot of cash to do a limited number of splashy, big budget gigs decked out in oh-so-fabulous Roberto Cavalli versions of their original outfits:

* For readers too young to remember who the heck NKOTB are, they were one of the first modern boy bands to go big, peaking in the late '80s and inspiring the formation of a rash of boy and girl groups that dominated the charts in the following decade.

So yeah, if you ever needed anyone to blame for Westlife, 98 Degrees, N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, Boyzone and East 17 you know who to ask for.

Oh, and they use to look like this, hee hee!

A star so bright, you blind me, yeah
Don't close your eyes
Don't fade away, don't fade away, oh

Yeah you and me we can ride on a star
If you stay with me girl
We can rule the world
Yeah you and me we can light up the sky
If you stay by my side
We can rule the world

If walls break down, I will comfort you
If angels cry, oh I'll be there for you
You've saved my soul
Don't leave me now, don't leave me now, oh

All the stars are coming out tonight
They're lighting up the sky tonight
For you, for you
All the stars are coming out tonight
They're lighting up the sky tonight
For you, for you

~ rule the world ~ take that

i have always wonder;

what's it like to live faithfully by the stars? what's it like looking at the stars to decide when to crop, when to harvest, when to celebrate and mourn.

what would it be like if i were to play my cards differently?

i live by simplicity. so simple i'm afraid i might just vanish.

Another week zoomed by.

Week 5 down. Just like that.
Time's passing faster than ever.

For God's sakes, it's already June.
Another half a year and I'd be counting down the days to my 24th birthday.
*bites fingernails*

Anyway,
todayyyyy, a good friend gets married!

Congratulations to Shidi & Syanah (I won't disclose real names here since I haven't gotten approval from either of them to do so)!!

SELAMAT PENGANTIN BARU beb.

I'll be seeing you guys tomorrow, can't wait.
Will be meeting the rest of #melayu20+ at Bukit Batok.

Yayyyy, makan free!

I slept for a record 21 hours today.
Slept at 9pm last night, and awoke at 6pm today.

My whole body bloody hurts, and the Mr said he had to check if I was breathing.
LOL.

So when I woke up, I was famished as hell.
Thanks la Mama, masak ayam masak merah seh.
I only eat chicken when my mother cooks it. :P
I know.. I'm biased like that.

Went online to look for some songs by keying in "metal" in the genre category.
When I made the discovery of the century.

What the... @#$%^!

TAKE THAT?! METAL?! ROCK?!

BLOODY TAKE THAT?!

You're telling me this messy-haired boyband from the 90s sings rock/metal songs!?

FUCKING GARY BARLOW.

Excuse me while I have an asthma attack.
(FYI, I don't have asthma.)

I thought I'd continue with the theme of 'Beautiful' this week, so let's start out with a few quotations:

"The world is beautiful, but has a disease called man" - Friedrich Nietzsche

"You don't love a woman because she is beautiful, but she is beautiful because you love her" - Anon

"The only beautiful things are the things that do not concern us." - Oscar Wilde

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." - Albert Einstein

So once again, the trigger is...

Beautiful
