For those of you looking to be more productive, I have found a nice combination of web apps, online

For those of you looking to be more productive, I have found a nice combination of web apps, online services, and native apps that really help organize my life and boost my ability to get things done. Since purchasing my iPhone, I have been looking for a todo/tasking application. Prior to my iPhone I used LifeBalance, a very nice application that looked to organize your life based on life goals. Examples of life goals are "stay in shape", "do well at work", "keep in touch with friends", etc... Needless to say I created several life goals and subcategories to help focus me on the things that were important to me. This worked well for me, but was not as task oriented as I would like and was also a bit of work to maintain. In my search for a good replacement, a friend of mine recommended "Remember the Milk" an online todo/tasking application, which led me to the "Getting Things Done (GTD)" methodology. A little more research turned up Toodledo, Jott (native app & online app), and several some native apps for todo/tasking, even some with voice notes. With all this research I was able to identify what I wanted out of a todo/tasking system:

1. Access my tasks everywhere via PC or iPhone

2. Access my tasks when disconnected from the internet

3. Use voice to leave tasks

4. Tasking needed to be rich and support GTD, sub-tasks, and re-occurring tasks

5.  Share my tasks

As it turns out, none of the products out there support all these features. However, there is a simple combination of these products that works extremely well. Toodledo satisfies 1, 4 and 5. Jott (the on-line app) satisfies 3. And Appigo's Todo native app satisfies 2.

Toodledo is a full featured online todo/tasking application equal to or better then Remember the Milk (http://www.toodledo.com/info/compare.php). It fully supports GTD and has a very nice UI for online use and a great iPhone webapp for iphone use.

Jott, the online application, allows one to call in and leave a voice message that it will transcribe and send to your contacts. Basically, you call Jott and it asks you "who do you want to Jott?". You say the contact and speak your message. This message is transcribed and sent to your contact. Contacts are emails set up via internet. Beleive it or not, Jott intergrates with Toodledo...just another contact!

Appigo's Todo native app syncs with Toodledo and thus provides the offline capability.

So here is how I use the system:

-Get up in the morning, peruse tasks on iPhone, and percolate what needs to get done for the day.

-As I walk around and begin my day I will occasionally call into Jott and add tasks. But since I usually remember things while driving to work that is when Jott gets a full workout.

-When I get to work, I use my pc and Toodledo online application to manage all my work todo/tasking. Since all the Jotted task go to an inbox since they do not come in organized (no folder, context, or tag associations), I will usually take a couple of minutes to organize them.

-While at work, my wife has access to my todo/tasks and can add stuff to the honeydo folder :)

-At meetings and about I use both the Toodledo webapp and Appigo's Todo (when disconnected) on the iPhone and capture todo/tasks.

-Again, while driving home and sorting through the day Jott gets a heavy workout.

-At home and about on errands I will mostly use the iPhone and Toodledo webapp.

One last thing people ask me is how to organize their todo/tasking. My method is simple. I only have 4 bins (folders) for my tasks: Work, Personal, Honeydo, and No Folder (inbox). Next, I have 5 contexts (where) for tasks: Office, Home, Online, Errands, and No Context. Then I use tags to further categorize tasks when needed. The best way to illustrate this is by example:

1. The wife wants me to pick up some groceries on the way home. She gets on the internet and adds a task to the Honeydo folder:

Folder = Honeydo

Context = Errands

Sub-tasks for each item

And if you want, tags for type of items (produce, dairy, freezer...)

Due date

How this works. When I leave the office, I will change my filter to context:Errands or folder to Honeydo. I will see this task. When I get to the store I can look at the sub-tasks for the items I need to pick up and if I have tags, organize the items by their location in the store.

2. At the office, in a meeting I get tasked to do draft a brief for a project. I add this task via iPhone Toodledo webapp or offline via Appigo Todo:

folder = Work

context = Online (because it just requires my laptop, and I can do the work anywhere I have internet acccess)

tags = Project Name, work stream (we usually break out projects into work streams)

sub-tasks = more detailed tasks to get this done

set appropriate priority and due dates to task and sub-tasks

I will often add duration

How this works. Anywhere I am online and want to do work, I switch my folder to work and filter by context:Online and priority. Usually, I will work on the highest priority task and use the tags to filter to the project and workstream that has that highest priority task. This declutters the task list to exactly what you are going to work on. As I focus on the larger task, I will create additional sub-tasks and do the work. Additionally, Toodledo will provides something called scheduler where you provide folder and/or context and how much time you have...Toodledo will then provide a list of tasks based on priority and duration to maximize what you can get done in that time. It is a nice little feature.

I hope this blog entry has helped your productivity. I am always looking to better and more efficient ways to get things done. So if you have any comments or suggestions, or things you use or came across, I would love to hear them.

<start-state>

public Transition addArrivingTransition(Transition t) {
    throw new UnsupportedOperationException( "illegal operation : its not possible to add a transition that is arriving in a start state" );
  }

  public void setArrivingTransitions(Map arrivingTransitions) {
    if ( (arrivingTransitions!=null)
         && (arrivingTransitions.size()>0)) {
      throw new UnsupportedOperationException( "illegal operation : its not possible to set a non-empty map in the arriving transitions of a start state" );
    }
  }

public void execute(ExecutionContext executionContext) {}

<start-state name="start">
  <transition to="next node"></transition>
</start-state>

<start-state name="start">
        <task name="Start Task" priority="high">
            <assignment actor-id="salaboy"></assignment>
            <controller>
                <variable access="read,write" name="variable1" mapped-name="variable1"></variable>
            </controller>
        </task>
        <transition to="next node"></transition>
</start-state>

public static final String[] supportedEventTypes = new String[]{
    Event.EVENTTYPE_NODE_LEAVE,
    Event.EVENTTYPE_AFTER_SIGNAL
};

[caption id="attachment_164" align="alignnone" width="460" caption="Extracción ATM"][/caption]

Windows Task Manager is a bit of a tease. Sure it provides you with some usable information, but it falls far short of providing you with the information that you really need. It is most commonly used to display information on all processes running on your computer, as well as advising you of the CPU and memory usage stats for a giving process. Additional selective information on running applications, performance, local area connection, and on users is also available.

Most importantly, from within Task Manger you have the option of selectively killing processes. But how do you determine which processes are safe to kill based on the limited information Task Manager provides?

If you’re a skilled computer user, it’s probable you’re aware of every process running in the background, the application or service that is responsible for launching it, and the function it performs. Better yet, you probably have the know-how to selectively kill processes to optimize memory use and trim your machine for maximum performance.

But what if you’re a novice or casual computer user? Where can you get the information on running processes so that you can make an accurate assessment on whether to kill a process or not?

Fortunately, there are a number of free tools available that will help any computer user, novice or not, to determine which process/processes can be safely shut down.

One such free tool is ProcessQuickLink 2, a small application (413 KB), from Uniblue Systems, the company which provides the indispensable process listing database ProcessLibrary.com, to the computing community free.

After downloading and installing ProcessQuickLink 2, the latest process information will be available to you directly through Windows Task Manager. Simply click on the Icon next to the process you are querying, which will now be visible in Task Manager’s process tab, and the ProcessLibrary.com website will be accessed where the essential information on the selected process can be viewed. The information provided is extensive enough to allow you to make an educated decision on the process.

If you’ve always wondered just what all those processes running in the background on your computer are up to, this cool little application will give you all the information you need.

And in this task I need to create a "worst case scenario" in meaning a story which is more or less at the edge of anythink - ( I do hope I've written somethink like a worst-case story, since it looks to me more like a "WTF!?" story xD )

*Warning! Below you'll read "pure" fiction based on reallity life!*

- In meaning some of it happened ( for real ) somethink not -

Evil Minds

My brother woke me up with his fashion drama ( Err ... No comment ). After some "Yes, you can wear that." -s from me he went to this other city, saying he needs to do some things. I searched up my book about dreams. The last night I dreamed about an green ( poison like ) emo vampire boy. He was chasing me ( His voice chased me ) in somekind of hotel. Sadly I couldn't see his body. I was panicly hidding from him in another persons bed ( No! I did not have any "things" at the bed with the person already sleeping there! ). I saw myself just about to sleep in when suddenly the boys hand grabbed me. "Gotc - ya!", said the death pointing voice. At that point I woke up. Frigtened. I started hearing his voice ( In real ) and seeing some human shape on my chair. I just closed my eyes and waited ... After some minutes of my panic attack I slept in ( again. ) A dream happened ( again ). It seemed like a part 2 of my previous bed hallucination. This time I found myself in a basement with some other "*parners*" ( I typed parners because we somehow knew each other and the whole situation we were in ). The bad guys ( good looking poison vampires ) were in some sort of an electric bath screaming "YOU WON! HAVE MERCY" - or somethink in that way. I don't remember what was after that, but somehow it was connected with my night stalker. Since I didn't know how he looked like I couldn't identify him in the electric bath. Though I had these feeling that one of them was observing me with strickt - sharp eyes. The other people which were helping me gave me his ( the stalker boys ) cloths saying I need to burn them to get ride of some curse. Well here I woke up to listen to my brothers issues. ( According to the book I'll soon get to experiance a romantical adventure. )

Anyway! I started my usuall day when I'm home alone. Turned the PC on, selected a few musics, turned the volume and tone on full and danced all over the house doing wariable of things.

14:00 - My mother came home ( early ). She planned to take the dog to the animal salon. Of course I went with her, since she begged me with her crying that she needs to do everythink alone ( Right ... ). The dog was nervous and breathing like he's about to die. But at that time I was the one who almost died! As my mother drove to the salon, I kept thinking the following things: "OMG, The dog is looking me with a death look! He's going to bite me!!" or "The god damn dog is about to break the window and jump out of the car!!!" or "Mother! Who gave you a licence to drive!? You'r going to kill us!!! Drive slower!!!" Thank god nothink of my fantasy happened.

Finally arrived ( In some shitty old very tinny and dusty room which should acording to all city guides and maps be a salon ). A "wanna be specialist" servant came to us. My mother started to have some chit chat with him about the hair cut and all the blabla stuff. As for me ... Well, I felt really uncomfortable there. I felt like we went in some sort of place where they torch animals.

2 hours later ...

I found myself outside a bar drinking an icy cola with my female parent. And at that terrace, were two little children playing. Everybody knows how much I hate if some kiddos are near my body. So, I was hoping for that salon servant to call and say "Heyaz! The puppeh ish ready x3!!!!" I was actually praying that he would call! Why? Simply because, these ONE child had this ball. He was throwing it into the other child whic was attacking him with sand. The ladies who were in charge of those two didn't eaven care what they were doing. Unfurtunaly the ball landed in another bar guests face, and the sand all over the tables and drinks. To my luck "he" called.

At the animal salon ...

Mother: "OMG!!! MY BABEH!!! LOOK AT YAAA! You'r so cuddely, fuddely, njammumely!!!"

Servant: "Ohohoho!!! Yesh, he was such a brave boy @_@!!!"

Me ( thinking ): "What did they do to you T_T!? Did they stab any needles into you!? Amadeus ( the dogs name ) speak to me!!! Use your telepathy powers! Ooooh you poor animal!"

Mother: *pays*

Servant: *$_$"

Me: *I can't get any air in this room!!! AND OMG!!! THE DOG HAS LAYED DOWN!!! WHAT IS WITH HIM!!????*

In the car ...

This might sound crazy and silly and so unrealistic and whatsoever, but as I babysitted the shaking dog, somethink slimy touched my right leg ( actually I touched it ). I got tottaly stunned. My nervs were going crazy and the adrenalin level raised fast. It was a sleeping snake.

Me: *Metamorphing into a living rock*

Dog: *Happily enjoying the ride*

Mother: *Drives like a maniac*

Home

The snake somehow got away ( don't ask me how, I turned into a temporary rock ). I checked every possible hideout where the snake could went. To my luck everythink was "clear". I swinged my body into the house. I took the camara ( to picture the dog *jeez* ) and went back outside where I last saw mother with Amadeus. But! They disseapered! I went around and around the house, searched all over the grass field and the garden, still no possible trace from them. I started yelling "Mother!???" No response came back. Like if the Earth would take them ( The car was still home ). "Possibly she just went for a walk, to show her "baby" around ..." - After those calming proccess I watched the TV until I just slept in.

Next morning ( Today )

I woke up in a fog of CO2 some meters away from a half burning television. With bloody eyes, shaking legs and a screaming voice I runned into the bathroom to take all the possible wet towels hanging on the radiator. I hurried back and tryed to put out the fire, and it just got worst with every second. I hurried to the phone to call the fire man. Though I didn't know what number to call! I run outside the house screaming after my familly members. What I saw next was ... well ... the snake ( from yesterday which got away ) was eating my cat Garfield. As I almost collapsed the police came in a civil car. They said that they came to me, because they were chasing some kind of stalker.

Me: " O_O!????"

Police men: "We have traced the stalker until here, the civil car is a camouflage!"

Snake: *oum nom nom nom*

Police men: "Umm, boy are you alright?"

Me: "O_O!????"

Snake: *sillently disseapers in the grass*

Afterwards ...

A few police officers saw and followed the CO2 fog and took out the fire. The other few searched the area in hope to find the stalker. And a pair of them were asking me questions ... "Boy! Can you speak?", "Boy! Can you give us any possible life evidence!?" ...

After 5 hours of police protection ...

I'm typing in my usual blog at my home. From my mother and brother still no clue. A police man is with me for security. Well, right now he's having a coffee break. And I'm off to bed! I'm sure tommorow everythink will be better!

18:00 - Continuing from my previous draft

Urm ... ... .... long story in quick form. Security police man from yesterday = stalker ( When I went to bed he came to my room saying "Gotc - ya!" I took my pillows and smashed him down, the other police officers gave me a number to call if anythink would happen so I did ), Mother = torned apart by the dog, she was found today in the backyard with the bloody dog on her, Brother = got arrested because of some things I didn't understand. Me = had a heart attack and am writting this on the nurses LapTop ( she allowed me ... ) and am eating this wierd hot dog ( it's taste is really awkward ... ) Now that I think of it ... that emo stalker boy! Didn't I have a dream about somebody chasing/stalking me!???

20 Strategies to Defeat the Urge to Do Useless Tasks

How many times during the day do you check email, or go to see updates of your favorite blogs or so

How many times during the day do you check email, or go to see updates of your favorite blogs or social sites, or shuffle paperwork or make phone calls … when you know you should be doing something more important?

Procrastination is in all of us, and one of the best ways to procrastinate is to do all the busy-work that makes us feel like we’re doing stuff — while not doing the stuff we know we should be doing.

We need to do the important stuff, we know we need to, and yet we don’t. Today we’ll look at ways to strategize against this all-too-common phenomena.

Recently reader c5ask wrote:

    “I have read couple of articles on “Defeating the resistance to do useful tasks”. I have been trying to follow this and successful to some extent. I do see markable change in routine activities.

    At the same time, there is something called “Defeating the urge to do useless tasks”. I realised, there are certain tasks that we do, because we are so used to it that, we don’t know how frequently to do it. Eg: checking emails.”

So how do we combat this urge? I suggest not doing just one thing, but many. Attack the enemy from all sides, and soon the enemy will collapse. Here are some great strategies for beating the urge to do the useless:

   1. Know what’s important. If your task list is just a list of everything you need to do, you haven’t distinguished between the high-impact tasks and the busy-work. Mark down your top three priorities for the day. Everything else should be secondary.
2. Make it prominent. Either on your computer or on your wall or right smack in the middle of your desk, have some kind of prominent reminder of what you’re supposed to be doing today
3. Single-task. I wrote recently about the power of single-tasking, and that’s important here, because if you multi-task, you tend to switch between what you should be doing and what you shouldn’t — the important vs. the useless tasks.
4. Identify your time-wasters. What are the things that you do most often? For some, it’s email, for others, it’s the phone, for others, it’s a certain website or three. If you aren’t sure, track it for a couple days. Know your time-wasters and you can beat them.
5. Log them. Sometimes just the act of keeping track of something for a week or two will make you more conscious of things. You could use a service such as pageaddict, or just use paper and pen.
6. Change your habits. If your biggest time-waster is email (for example), make a conscious, dedicated effort to change that specific habit, from checking email every 5 minutes to checking it at two or three designated times of day (for example). (Read more tips on changing habits: the no-fail method, 5 things you need to know, 13 things to avoid.)
7. Be accountable. Tell people you’re going to change. Be accountable to them so they can see how many times you succeeded and failed. Daily email updates to your friends is a good method, as is using an online forum, or posting a big tally sheet in your office where everyone can see it. The positive public pressure will help.
8. Have good reasons to save time. Why do you want to kill your time-wasters? If you don’t have a good reason, it won’t matter much. But if you want to finish work early in order to spend time with your family, or you want to make time for exercise or relaxation or reading or whatever, or you really want to achieve a certain goal or complete a big project … these reasons will motivate you to change. Remember your motivation at all times.
9. Reward yourself. Each time you resist the urge, give yourself a reward. It could be a treat, or points that earn bigger rewards, or something relaxing.
10. Unplug. If your biggest time-wasters are online (or email), consider disconnecting for certain key periods of the day. I get my best writing done when I disconnect from the Internet, for example.
11. Know your key times. When do you have the most energy and get the most work done? Identify those times of the day and make them your “distraction-free” times. Only allow yourself to do the important tasks in those times.
12. Get rid of distractions. Turn off the phones, plug in your headphones (to block out sound), put up a “do not disturb” sign, turn off your email notifiers, maybe put your email in vacation mode. Get rid of visual clutter around you as well.
13. Go cold turkey. Sometimes, if an addiction is really strong, you just have to cut it out completely and weather the tough times. If your addiction is email, for example, don’t do email for several days. It’ll be very hard. Pretend you’re on vacation. Then, when you return to email, set certain times and start with new habits.
14. Block them. Technology is great, and you can use technology to beat technology time-wasters. Stealth Kiwi and LeechBlock are two good ones, among many others.
15. Batch them. Keep a list of things you need to do that aren’t on your list of three priorities. Then do them all at once, when you have some extra time. That’ll keep you from doing things throughout the day.
16. Schedule them. Designate certain times of day to do your batch processing of email, phone calls, meetings, whatever. Then, when you’re not at the scheduled time for those things, you know you’re not supposed to be doing them.
17. Always rethink. Periodically examine the way you do things, and think about whether there’s a better way. That doesn’t mean you need to change things all the time, but sometimes we keep doing something a certain way just because that’s what we’re used to doing. Instead, see if there are things you can eliminate, streamline, do more effectively.
18. Change your location. If the above strategies don’t work, sometimes it’s good to get away and try a new location. Take a laptop to a coffee shop, work out of a library, work at home (if you don’t already), or otherwise find some quiet spot where you can work without distractions, and perhaps without an Internet connection if you don’t need it.
19. Focus on results. What do you want to achieve today? Have that achievement be the focus of your entire day. Try to complete that project or major task or goal … and at the end of the day, be sure to assess whether you were successful or not.
20. Celebrate! If you were able to complete your goal for the day, be sure to bask in the glory of your victory. That good feeling of accomplishment will help motivate you to keep doing that — it’s a satisfaction that is rewarding in itself, but you need to put special focus on it at the end of each day. Do that, and you won’t want to fail at your goal the next day.

It’s Sunday night, I’m laying in bed tapping away to get this done before reading more o

It's Sunday night, I'm laying in bed tapping away to get this done before reading more of The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. It's a great book, and, as a friend and I are currently writing a zombie film which we'll then make ourselves, it's a really good source of ideas and possible guidelines. We wanted to make a film which we can use to showcase our and others' talents, and in a zombie film anything goes so it's a great genre to work in. I'm going to try to meet up with him this week to see what he's written, and to then start writing some myself. I've been far too stressed working on the last film to even think about anything else so any writing I may have done would probably have been a bit shit!

The main event this weekend was my mate Mike's stag night last night. It wasn't a big night out in a city or anything as it was a bit last minute and most people are skint, so we stayed in Stroud. We started off at Jim's place in the mid afternoon with some hardcore Rock Band action and a few drinks to get everyone in the swing of things.

Then we headed into town. I guess it was about 7pm when we got to The Retreat and it was already packed. There was a group there celebrating someones 29th birthday, some of whom I know so I went to have a chat with them for a bit. I was also trying to help Mike achieve one of his tasks we had set for him - to obtain a bra. He had 6 tasks in total including: drinking the drip tray from behind the bar; convincing someone he was Johnny Knoxville; and getting slapped by 2 strangers. He did all his tasks with varying levels of success! The one I thought he'd have most trouble with was actually one of his most successful - convincing someone he's Mr. Knoxville himself. He does look quite like him especially with a baseball cap on, and the guy he spoke to seemed pretty convinced!

Once the pub was starting to shut down we made our way back to the flat for more rocking and drinks. One of Mike's tasks was to walk home with his jeans on his arms and his tee shirt on his legs...then it was decided he should walk back naked, a decision he didn't object to that much at all! I posted his pants through someones letterbox so I need to get him a new pair as a wedding gift, I'm thinking a nice pair of y fronts.

Almost as soon as we were back at Jim's place, it was clear that my best friend Martin had exceeded his body's alcohol tolerance levels considerably, as he proceeded to the sink to review his night's intake once again. The rest of us played RB into the wee hours and chatted and just did general things you do when drunk.

Today I got up late. I didn't feel too bad considering, just a bit dehydrated as I forgot to drink water before I went to bed. Took Mike's brother Chris back to his parents' place this afternoon and chatted to them about the wedding next Friday amongst other things. They're lovely people so it's nice to catch up with them again.

I spent tonight at Jim's watching the first two Bourne films and eating a curry. Now I'm going to read for a bit and maybe get some new apps for the iphone.

Bye bye.

(this was slightly edited when typing, still today though, although not technically, early morning hours...)

He stood staring out into the trees surrounding his house. He heard screaming. After hearing someone else’ thoughts on the danger and noise in the world he pondered death, and time, and the expendability of life. He remembered a time of helplessness, a time when he had to swallow his pride. He felt his left hand, the knuckles a deeper red than that on his right. This was a reminder of a time when He felt small, when He felt inferior. The sound of the screaming was drowned out by the sound of the cars, the train, the birds, someone bringing in their bins. He thought of nature as a different entity to that of his own world, of the human, the social. As if to say “Our world is not that different…” two birds landed in front of him and he stared as they worked out their differences. A single minor, The Inferior standing up for himself. An angry flutter of feathers, a hop to the right along the narrow beam. Reinforcements arrive for the Superior. It is not longer a singular bird standing up for himself but three onto one. He watches puzzled, allowing the birds to settle the dispute on at least comparitable terms. Then after all are gone, except for the Superior, He interferes. A stick strikes the back of The Superior, who seconds before was so proud. He had taken back his pride. He had stood up for The Inferior. He was moved by the immediate likeness of Nature and His own world. This time he had not been small. This time he had been big. But he hadn’t.

If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley - but be
The best little scrub by the side of the rill;
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.

If you can't be a bush be a bit of the grass,
And some highway happier make;
If you can't be a muskie then just be a bass -
But the liveliest bass in the lake!

We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew,
There's something for all of us here,
There's big work to do, and there's lesser to do,
And the task you must do is the near.

If you can't be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can't be the sun be a star;
It isn't by size that you win or you fail -
Be the best of whatever you are!

Sử dụng internet một cách thường xuyên, đa số chúng ta đều đang sở hữu hai ba tài khoản email cho nhiều mục đích khác nhau. Mỗi lần kiểm tra email, ta phải log in/log out nhiều lần để xem tất cả tài khoản.
