Não é demais?

the four things meme, stolen from Evyl

4 things I did today:

overslept by half an hour. This kind of thing happens a lot, so I set the alarm for an hour or so earlier than it really needs to be so I can oversleep without being late.

got a package! latest order from thinkgeek.com, including a new shower curtain, new man-bag for toting my tchotchkes, and the infamous annoy-o-tron. Why would I get something that emits high-pitched but quiet beeps at random? because there is a tradition of mischief-making on my team at the office, and our chief mischief-maker moved away, and i have taken up the mantle. also, i think it'll be funny to watch my co-workers flip out as they look for whatever's beeping.

bought eggs. it said four things, not four interesting things. I eat eggs for breffist. Ran out of eggs this morning, so bought more tonite after work.

took a stool sample to mail to my gastroenterologist!

4 things on my to-do list:

pay rent. very dramatic, I know. write check. put check in envelope. put envelop in slot on landlord's door.

buy pig mask to wear to theater for SAW V. I am an obsessive fan, yes.

mail poo-samples. it has been established that I am full of shit, but now the research begins into what KIND of shit i am full of!

write an email about a showdown between two teams of Space-Monster-God gurus to send to mailing list for occultists I've been on since back in my younger days when I was into supernatural stuff. The Good Guys are represented by HP Lovecraft, PK Dick, and JR "Bob" Dobbs. the Bad Guys are L. Ron Hubbard, Rael, and Do. this is a sort of followup to a conversation we were having about The pope, dalai lama, and yoda vs. Darth Vader, Aleister Crowley, and Anton Szandor LaVey.

4 of my guiltiest pleasures: this one will be hard. I don't feel guilty about doing things that are pleasurable. my brain just doesn't work that way. still. there are some I am less likely to admit to in certain company, so I guess those count.

spending money frivolously. I'm not talking about the well-established practice of Retail Therapy. I'm talking about shopping for entertainment. Buying things that i don't one-hundred-percent NEED but that I think would be handy to have but largely just want to own. i don't do this often, as I tend to binge and then abstain for months whilst I pay off these newly-incurred credit card charges.

sleeping well past the time my alarm clock goes off. I know I should get up and fix breakfast so i can eat and drink coffee and read the news and take a nice long dump and get a shower before work, I know the transition from groggy cave-troll to functional member of society can take hours, but sometimes I stay in bed until there's time for naught but throwing on clothes, wolfing down a hot-pocket, and driving off without a nice long dump or even a shower. i don't like leaving the house without a shower, but being late to work is worse than a momentary lapse in hygeine. still, it is a pleasure to seriously overlseep.

the home-made potatp chips at the office cafeteria. I'm supposed to be watching my carbs, but they season them with brown sugar, cinnamon, and some other addictive goodies. sweet and salty and crunchy and potato-y and GOOD. they slice up and deep fry them taters right there on-site. taste nothing like potato chips out of a bag.

rum and jolt. booze plus sugary energy drink. WHEE! for a half hour, then THUNK! I'm down for ten hours or so. haven't done this in ages, though, as i ran outta jolt. and rum.

4 random facts about me:

for a guy with a degree in literature, I sure do make a point of avoiding the stuff. if it's not sci-fi novels like Anathem or some old Lovecraft anthology I'm reading, it's Love and Sex with Robots or Corrupted Science or something else from the science section of the bookstore, as I regret not learning more science when i was loitering around a college c ampus reading Lewis Carroll.

i am rather knowledgeable about zombies, and really picky about them. particularly Slow Zombies. none of that ninja high-flyin kung-fu viral mutant crap from the Resident Evil movies. Those aren't zombies anyway, they're Viral Mutants. same wiht 28 days/weeks/menstrual-cycles later. when i say ZOMBIE i mean decaying corpse with rudimentary powers of locomotion and a reflexive grabbing and eating of the living. I don't care if it's caused by a virus, radioactive space-dust, or overexposure to some weird subliminal signal on cable teevee, it's gotta be slow and dead if you're gonna call it a zombie.

i like blue cheese

i want new shoes but never get around to buying some because there's nothing technically wrong with my current shoes. my old boots fell apart, so i started w3earing my sneakers, which are shiny blue and silver with bits of white. they're comfy. but they're sneakers, and I hadn't worn sneakers out in public for years. this was months ago, and i'm still wearing the sneakers everywhere. this has taught me a valuable lesson: i have a good eye when shopping for sneakers. i bought those sneakers a couple years ago for exercising in, and they are still in really good condition and really comfy.

here endeth the meme. slack prevails.

The dynamic keys of the Optimus Maximus keyboard add an unheard of type of interaction with your keyboard, keys that can change dynamically based upon what programs you are using and what tools you want to have displayed. Known as macros most programs and some games allow quick buttons to be setup to circumvent the traditional way of selecting an option or command. The Optimus Maximus has 113 OLED screens which allows you to customize your keys to be what you desire instead of the same old static qwerty keyboard and number pad. The uses range from having a display for your iTunes music to displaying CPU or memory usage to displaying special characters or symbols. Of course so many little screens does come with quite the cost at $1,589.99 but who doesn't have $1600 dollars to spend on a keyboard?

Metaphors and Analogies: The optimus Maximus goes beyond the simple analogy of a typewriter and expands itself to being a customizable array of buttons. By allowing different sets of macros to be displayed on the tiny screens it creates a metaphor of having tiny devices that display important information and also a metaphor of a set of physical buttons associated with tools such as the bucket or text tool in photoshop.

The Concepts: The concepts of the keys are typing in letters, numbers, and symbols, displaying relevant computer information, and having a physical set of tools for games and editing software.

Relationship between concepts: The dynamic keys of the keyboard allow the relationships to differ based upon what program is being used. By displaying the icon for a tool or just showing information the concept changes as needed to being a display, a key to type information, or a tool to be selected.

The mappings: As expected letters and numbers still produce their respective character but as the keyboard changes its display the mappings change as well. For an editing software like photoshop the icons repesented map to different editing tools while some keys only show information.

I woke up this morning looking all over for my ipod. The work day goes by sooo slow unless I have so

I woke up this morning looking all over for my ipod. The work day goes by sooo slow unless I have some music or some podcasts to listen to while I'm concentrating on layouts and designs. So I'm stumbling through my house flipping up couch cushions, looking in my desk drawers and even digging through the car! After all the typical places I might of left my ipod last, I just gave in and decided to drive off to work. Music is one thing, but I'm not going to be late with a chance to get canned and/or loss the pay. So I happen to beat the traffic and get to work about 5 minutes early, leaving plenty of time to go through my car. Being so clean, there's only about 2 places to re look, the empty glove compartment or the empty pocket behind the seats. Of course I take a glance and a search and find nothing.

So I walk into work bummed and then I see this
[caption id="attachment_10" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="Jamming Out"][/caption]

Seriously...what the hell? I spent all damn morning looking around for my ipod, and this little fucker was at work the entire time listening to it! So I'm staring at him just standing there mindlessly with my ear buds and he points to the battery life. It's about to die too! So now I have my ipod and this little guy has been listening to it for who knows how long and I'm out music the rest of the day. So I check out the play list he's been using and not only did he create a new play list but he has quite a selection going on. Apparently, this acrobot, or should I say, iCrobot loves to listen to some smooth Jazz such as Boney James. Who would of thunk it?

So I yank the thing from him with a fight...damn buds have magnetic forces to them. I finally get my ipod back and can now listen to it for a couple minutes before it dies. He goes running off into the corner of my desk with the other 3 waving his arms up and down. The others must of had their turn and he was the one that got caught. How do I know this? Each one had their own separate play list made up already. At least these guys have some stuff in common, like the love of ipod and music.

I like it a lot zelfs. Bij deze dank ik Inferis voor de leuke prijs.

Nu, er zat in de doos een kleine catalogus. Op de laatste pagina staat een promotiecode.

Use this promotion code during
checkout to save up to $10!

What's the scoop? To save $10, just
spend $50 or more, or you can save
$5 on orders between $25 and $50.*

Woohoo!

* EXCLUDING SHIPPING AND TAXES

Wie geïnteresseerd is, mag mij altijd contacteren via mail (gammet en dan nog zo'n @ en GMail en . en com) of een rechtstreeks berichtje via Twitter. Het is geldig tot 30 september 2008. First come, first serve.

Gegroet!

So, after yesterday's less-than-stellar trial, today I came armed with several things to try that would be more appropriate to test the properties of the pills. Yesterday I only had my lunch and it was not really geared towards the type of thing that the fruit is supposed to affect. Also, as pointed out in the comments by someone from ThinkGeek, the fats in my cheese and oatmeal cream pie were working against me and breaking down the proteins that make the whole thing work.

Trial II was nothing short of a rousing success! You have to get a hold of these things, it was as amazing as I could have hoped it would be!!

1) A lime - Absolutely delicious! I tried it before hand to make sure it was not some secret delicious sweet variety of limes and I assure you, it was very sour. After letting the tablet dissolve, the lime was just so sweet and delicious and sugary like candy. The weirdest part was that you could feel a feeling of citrus in your mouth but you couldn't taste it as sour. Very odd.
2) A plum - I had to prove that yesterday's delicious plum wasn't a fluke. Sure enough, it was super ripe and sugary tasting.
3) A tangerine - This was crazy. It was so sweet I almost couldn't eat it.
4) A cherry - Mostly like a cherry still, but definitely sweeter, almost like cherry pie.

We had about 4 people from work trying it and every one agreed it was pretty cool. One person was impatient and chewed his tablet and he didn't notice any difference. So the lessons learned are:

1) Make sure you dissolve it fully on your tongue.
2) Make sure you have the appropriate items to try (i.e. sour things and fruit).
3) Sweet things don't really get sweeter, so don't bother with those.

There are several items I would still like to try such as Tabasco sauce and sour cream. The guy from ThinkGeek also recommended beer. I would absolutely try it again at home when I could gather some more items together.

As a side note, why do people from companies only comment when I bash their products? :)

And now the berries finally ARE in my grasp. A co-worker bought some tablets from ThinkGeek.

Unfortunately I didn't have anything prepared to give them a fair try, so I will probably need to try this again. This is what I had with me:

1) Oatmeal Cream Pie - It tasted about the same, I really didn't notice a difference. I was warned it could be super over sweet, but I didn't notice.
2) Plum - At first I thought it tasted the same and I thought the pills were bogus. But after eating it for a little bit I thought, "Either those pills are working or this is the finest, ripest plum ever picked!" By the end it was almost too sweet! But I didn't taste it before the pills, so I don't know how much improvement there was. It could have, in fact, been the finest, ripest plum ever picked.
3) Venison and Cheese sandwich - It seemed to taste extra delicious, but I think I am chalking that up to my heightened awareness of taste as I scrutinized every bite for the effects of the berries.
4) Diet Dr. Pepper - It had a sort of bitter taste at the end. Definitely not an improvement!

Nothing was that dramatic however. I'm wondering how much of it is a placebo effect, meaning, I know this is supposed to taste different so now I'm thinking it tastes different. The Emperor's New Clothes in pill form. To be fair though, the pills are supposed to turn sour things sweet and I didn't really have anything sour. I will need to try again with some lemons or the like.

I will, of course, keep you posted.

Today is Jonathan's birthday. I had found this Wifi Detector T-shirt that I was pretty sure he would like, so we ordered one up. This morning we gave it to him, and I think he really liked it. It pegs the geek meter. It lights up when you get it close to a Wifi hotspot, indicating signal quality. It is most definitely Jonathan.

Jonathan is definitely a geek (in the good sense). He installed Linux on his Nintendo DS a year or two ago, and he did it without any help from me. I was (and still am) very impressed.

Unfortunately, he's still feeling a bit under the weather with sinus troubles today. Also, I had a church board meeting after work, so I didn't get home until after 8:00. We decided that we'd "do" his birthday on Sunday. Hopefully he'll feel better by then and can actually taste his birthday dinner - Mexican. I said, "Taco Bell?" and he said "No." But of course, I was only kidding. I think we'll go to Tia Margarita's in downtown Concord.

It was the fourth night of Honors Week, and the club was working on Paper Quilling. Not exactly where my interests lie, and since I had a board meeting, I couldn't attend that anyhow. But there were a dozen people working on it when the board meeting ended, and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Tomorrow is Spiders. David has been busting his butt doing school work this week, so were going to give him a bit of respite and allow him to attend the last evening. In fact, he will teach the honor.

When we had our planning session in July, he suggested Spiders and volunteered to teach it. But he was thinking Reptiles when he said that, and hadn't noticed that we've been saying Spiders until yesterday. But he is still willing to teach it.

After church this Sabbath I will go visit an elderly woman who is a member of our church. She was the Pathfinder director at Concord for years and years, retiring from that maybe ten years ago (or so). I don't know how long the club had been inactive when we moved here, but we got here the first year it restarted. She sent me an email the other day offering me a briefcase that her Pathfinders had given to her. I am honored that she thought to give it to me. She hasn't been able to get to church for a couple of months, so I will bring her a CD copy of the church service.

I think it was around year 2000. My wife hated all the clutter at computer stores. She said one day, somebody should come up with a high end computer store, where you are not overwhelmed with all this junk. They should offer maybe 3 types of computers, small, medium, and large, and get rid of the most of the junk, and sell high end accessories. And the computer should have clean solid profile, maybe all black, or something like that. And she also said the sales people should walk around in black t-shirts. Whenever I see an Apple Store, I see her vision realized. She doesn't like Apple Stores that much. She thinks it's too crowded, too hot, and too smelly.

Couple weeks ago, she was complaining about all the power cords cluttering our kitchen, where we keep 2 laptops on the kitchen counter, and 2 camera battery chargers and 2 iPhone docks on the kitchen desk. She said, They should make a cordless charging for the laptops and the phones, I'm sick of plugging things in all the time. I sort of laughed at her and told her about the April Fools product ThinkGeek had a couple years back. But today, I see this: http://gizmodo.com/5039871/intel-says-theyve-taken-a-huge-leap-in-wireless-power-tech.

As I have previously reported, there is a crazy Miracle Berry that messes with your taste buds such that everything you eat tastes totally different and delicious. I really wanted to try it out and a berry only costs about $3 a pop, but I couldn't really find a place in Chicago to get them. You could import them by the hundreds, but that was pretty expensive! I even considered buying a plant and growing them myself, but they sounded pretty difficult to take care of.

But finally, a light in the darkness! And from who else but my favorite store, ThinkGeek? Now available for purchase, you can buy Miracle Berry Tablets, which work the same as the berries. I am really itching to try them and now they are affordable (even if they are on back order).

So, anyone up for a flavor tripping party?

In another streak of pure boredom, (somewhat) imaginative minds have been at lackadaisical hard work

In another streak of pure boredom, (somewhat) imaginative minds have been at lackadaisical hard work inventing new activities to entertain ourselves with. After one particular night being fed up with being around hordes (no pun intended) of idiots that I knew nothing about except of their lack of intelligence, I decided to create a rather spontaneous game that my friends and I could participate in undisturbed by the nuisances of absent intellect. The game that was created was:

The Thinkgeek Game!

The rules are as follows:

You are allocated 5 minutes to peruse the Thinkgeek.com website and comprise a list of items that you find fascinating, mystifying, loads of fun or just plain neat. The restrictions on your list are that your list may NOT exceed 100 (U.S.) dollars, and it may only contain a specific item only once. After the 5 minutes are over, all of your friend(s) and you then compare their lists. Then, each list is awarded "Awesome points" for how awesome their compilation of items is. This judging system is completely arbitrary, and there are no tables or guidelines to what items deserves more Awesome points, it's just what you and your friends think! The list with the most awesome points wins! You may play as many rounds as you like to determine a winner, just keep in mind that you may never use the same item more than once. That includes in separate matches.

Things to keep in mind:

-You may use any scoring system you think best fits you: You may give the whole list a score of 1 - 10, or 1 - 100, or grade each item on the list 1 - 10 (if you choose this option, please keep in mind the cost of the items on each player's list).

-Please try to be honest! Do not under-vote your friends' lists just because you would like to be the winner. By honest means, decide how neat the gadgets on your friends' lists would be and award the correct amount of Awesome points you think fits.

-You may not vote on your own list (duh).

-This game is still in Beta, and I have no idea if it will work out or become a complete failure! So, don't, you know, go prancing all over the place and complaining because it is a bad game. I though this up in a single thought while dealing with some primitive cultists, mentally-unstable folks, and 3 Instant messaging conversations.

Have fun!

-Blarglez

This is definitely the coolest keyboard I’ve seen since the Optimus Maximus Keyboard (Don't get me wrong the Optimus is pretty amazing). It’s called the Luxeed Dynamic Pixel LED Keyboard and it only costs $199.99 versus the $1,589.99 of the Optimus Maximus. If I had a need for a new keyboard and just happened to have $200 lying around I would definitely get it.

Each key on the Luxeed has it’s own customizable color with 430 LEDs total. You can also program 4 preset patterns that can be activated by the touch of a button. There’s a mode called “Spark” and this allows the keys to light up only when you press them down. I would love that but I don’t know if it would make my eyes bug out while I was typing fast lol.

There are 2 base colors for the keyboard itself, one being black and the other white. The black keyboard isn’t as bright because only the characters light up. The white keyboard has semi-transparent keys so they light up except where the characters are. I would definitely pick the white one :). The numpad isn’t included, nor does it light up. This is kind of depressing but you can buy it separately if you feel the need.

I don’t ever recommend spending $1600 on a keyboard but if that’s your thing go for it lol. Personally I like my Eclipse II LED Backlit Keyboard. All 3 of the keyboards that I mentioned are available at Thinkgeek so take a look at them.
