Okay, I'm going to try and write this in the two seconds I have before Zain wakes up.

Hmmm. Let's see. I sort of snorkeled yesterday, but realized that it's not really my bag. Maybe someday I'll feel more comfortable breathing through my mouth underwater. I did successfully see some fish and other things that I could see at an aquarium for several minutes before I started freaking out though. I decided I'd rather swim instead. And so I did. And then Andy took the gear and I took Z, who practically climbed me like a tree to keep from touching the water. I ended up speaking with some guy (who lives right across the street from our resort) for a while. I would NOT want to live here. Tourists everywhere. Crowded beaches most of the year. I'd rather live in UpCountry. So gorgeous. There are really cool shops and old buildings, beautiful hills and trees and farms. A LOT of gigantic churches. We walked around Makawao for a bit and drove through Pa'ia. Today we'll really check it all out, and then head off to a luau later on.

(Oh! Saturday was our 5th anniversary. We celebrated with burgers and fries- courtesy of Cool Cat Diner on Front Street. :P)

Random: everything that could possibly get on my clothes this trip has. Grease, chocolate, grape juice, aaaaand bird shit. YES. I should be a walking advertisement for that Tide-to-go pen. I think my siblings used to call me "hole-in-chin" when I was younger because everything I put in my mouth would invariably leak onto my clothes. I blame this recent relapse on pregnancy.

And now: gaze upon these...

*********This is in regards to ping pack and posting on http://creditcrunch.commitrader.com/, in the

*********This is in regards to ping pack and posting on http://creditcrunch.commitrader.com/, in the future, if wishing to using my words, please do not list me as a particular person that I am not. In their posting they name me as Jennifer Rathburn. I am not Jennifer Rathburn and do not know this person, so I take no responsibility for being named as such ~ in the above websites posting of my article. ***********

For a good fair amount of time now ~ I have been aloof to what I do for a living. This is with good reason.

Reason number one: Reports have shown that once your boss/company find out you have a blog - they tend to read it. From the tending to read it - they tend to fire you. That sucks. People out there who have had this happen - my sympathies. Truly. As you will see I don't give that out often.

Reason number two: I am a collector and, not just any collector. I have a unique perspective on the world of credit card/check collections to tax collections.

I was once told by a friend to write a book to help the "Everyday Joe" out. I find that I don't really want to do that. Here's why ~ There are people out in the world (United States) that would use this information poorly. I would prefer helping that "Everyday Joe" out, when the contact the office. This shows that they are actually seeking to resolve their collection issue.

With the credit crisis here and it is ~ a lot of "experts" are coming out of the woodwork, oh and, CCCS businesses (Consumer Credit Counseling Services). Back when the money was being made, the credit was maxed out, same thing with bypassing payment to a tax departments, state or federal. The debtor is seeking sympathy from the collector on the "Everyday Joe's" debt. What the "Everyday Joe" fails to realize is that every money you made is recorded on your taxes; your employment recorded with their respected state agency; and anything of value (real estate) is fair game. The in-thing to do now is not paying the debt that was accumulated ~ It could have been paid for while because the "Everyday Joe" was working a more than decent paying job but, to bypass it. As the "experts" say..and tell the consumers to ask for a "offer and compromise". This tweaks my nerves, just a little. Especially the debtor that was in real estate. Let me state this again: The debtor was making the money before they were "caught", so to speak, in the credit crisis. You really think that any collector will have sympathy?? Only the newbies to the game of the credit collections.

Now, before I go further. I am one who has gotten burnt out in the world of collections. Collections takes a heavy toll on your mind and the repetitive nature of it. I am not "the best" out there. I am direct and to the point. I also provide a solution and reinforce the standards of good collection practices. Here are tips that if you follow and communicate, you should be able to adjust accordingly. And it is on a case by case issue. If you feel that there is no resolution to your credit issue ~ I recommend that you talk to an consumer finance attorney, not CCCS. Ask questions. You are going to feel cheap. You are going to feel dirty. You are going to feel embarassed. You are not going to ask the right questions, at first. You will feel like the bottom has been taken out from under you. Here is the neat thing: there is a way out.

1. Maintain contact with your creditors.

2. Ask them questions on how to lower your limit. Every company is different!!!

3. Paying something on your debt is better than not paying anything at all. You may not be on a "payment plan", but it is a payment. Note** This part is hard. What happens here is very simple ~ The creditor transfer your debt out. They send it somewhere else at least twice to three times till you are no longer in their system to be "checked on". This means that for at least six months, your debt is in limbo accumulating penalty and interest, out da butt! You won't be able to track it down till it hits on your credit report. They you have to cross-reference to the orginial debtor just to make sure it is that debt.

4. Always record who you spoke too. Every collector has an first name and/or a reference ID number. NO COLLECTOR WILL GIVE YOU THERE LAST NAME. If they do ~ nine times out of ten ~ it is false. (I know the last thing I want to do is come home to someone sitting on my porch with a gun or start getting hate mail. Neither of those is pleasant.)

5. Quit the luxury and I am not talking about right now ~ I'm talking about forever. Cut your expenses before it is too late. You know the writing on the wall ~ head it off ~ and quick! Do you really need cable tv? Do you really need that subscription to the newspaper? Do you really need to spend $4.00 or more on coffee, once to three times a day? Do you really need to eat out all the time? Eat lunch at your desk or on the park bench ~ I do ~ everyday. So, what if you have to eat the same noodles for a month. You have food.

So, those are a few tips. In no way shape or form does it sum up what happens in the credit world or the crisis that is here. It is always best to research your state's laws for additional assistance. You can make it through and start to "repair" your credit. Please note: for years you will be battling it uphill. The credit scoring and FICA system is outdated and useless. (There has only been talk of updating it and revamping it. Sorry to say, only talk has come from it.) Companies have their own standards to what is "good" credit, make sure to always read the fine print. Always seek advice ~ especially if it is too good to be true.

Disclosure: Though it is mentioned and typed out for you already ~ seek advice from a professional ~ not just listening to an "expert" or reading a blog.

Thenewno2 is a band featuring Dhani Harrison and Oli Hecks. I would describe their music as being in the same genre as 'Brainwashed (2002)' which was George Harrison's last album produced before he died but largely evolved. It contains guitar music with odd George Style diminished chords and his classic slide guitar sound. Thenewno2 deals with themes such as religion, postmoderism, hippyism amongst other things. If you liked Brainwashed, you'll like this.

Alot of work must have gone into this album because I've been listening to their myspace for well over a year and waited ever so patiently for their debut album titled, "You Are Here" set for release on August 1, 2008 on iTunes.

The confirmed tracks according to wikipedia are:

Another John Doe (video here)

Choose What You're Watching (video here)

People

Crazy Tuesday

Stop Sign

Yomp

I have heard all of those songs except for 'People,' 'Crazy Tuesday' and 'Stop Sign,' and I have also heard 'Say,' 'Truly,' 'Out Of My Mind' & 'Lord, Lord.' These were featured on the EP 'EP001.'

Underlined songs can be listen to at thenewno2's myspace page.

Another John Doe -"How Many Falling Stars Does It Take to Wake a Nation?"

This is a very slow melodic song, a very defined indie ballad with repetitive keyboard added to illustrate the occurence of another boring John Doe. It's hard to guess what this song is about specifically, perhaps repition in life "We all become the same," but features some brilliant slide guitar playing reminiscent of George's playing.

Choose What You're Watching - "You don't fool us, we know you're evil and your methods are illegal, they choose what you're watching and you don't mind, you don't know what you're watching and you don't mind."

A much heavier, fast paced rock song dealing with the issue of television brainwashing people blaming corporations and governments presumably.

Yomp - "I will be there, just say the word." "You're no match for the bigger man."

Again, very reminiscent of George's Style with the slide guitar and lots of heavy guitars. A very upbeat song concerning break-up I would imagine with a religious line thrown in much like George would have done.

I'll post up some more info on the songs as soon as I listen to the album.

I can't remember how exactly I found this site...but I can remember walking through bookstores ever since I was a little kid and seeing the covers of those trite Cassie Edwards books in the romance section. It was always some dark haired Fabio with glistening pecs standing on a mountain top with the breeze flowing through his hair, wearing buckskin and holding a tomahawk. I grew up reading a series of books that had the same sort of theme: the exoticized (and in Edwards' case, oversexualized) native americans with a beautiful blond blue-eyed girl/woman in the forefront. I remember being annoyed at it even then. How many times did the author have to bring up the fact that the main character had such lustrous blond hair? There was so much attention to that one detail! Someone was always focusing on it, stroking it. Ugh. I didn't understand what the big deal was. I got tired of reading about it.

I mean, it's no surprise that this Edwards broad is a hack. That's putting it kindly. And check out these classic titles: Savage Courage, Savage Torment, Wild Rapture....? Who reads this bullshit? Hey, here's a title: Keep calling me Savage and I'll show you torment...involving ruptures.

Speaking of rupturing, try not to laugh too hard at this.

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are.

"Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."
--St. Augustine

i guess, almost all of us, are waiting for that perfect someone who will sweep our feet off the ground... lucky for those who have found them... too bad for those who have not, count me in...

some of us may find it at their first time, but mostly, went through a lot of pains and heartaches, to learn, to unlearn and to finally meet that special someone... its a process..

i used to question, why can't we fall in love to only one person in our lifetime, and that person is really the one meant for us... but then, that was a lousy idea of destiny, i guess..

instead, we fall in love twice, thrice and so on, just to go on with life... it may vary in intensity and impact... but the point is you've loved.. i symphatize to those who chose to end their lives as their love dies... to end your life is a waste if its for a failed love... but then again, i am not in the position to question their decision, maybe i might do that too in the future, right??? i'll just cross the bridge when i get there...

we may have different personalities, we may have different outlooks in life, we may cope differently in every situation that comes in our lives.... but we can't deny the fact that we just wanna love and be loved in return...

i was so torn apart, shattered into pieces and lost...

i just don't know how to justify love in a sense, that in our time now, being in love with each other seems to be just an excuse to be in a relationship... no committment, no feelings, just plainly you and her/him being together...

it s*cks to think that, for others, its just so easy losing and finding a new love.. its just like finding a piece of coin on the street and owning it...

have i been in love???

YES!!!

am i in love??? TRULY, MADLY, DEEPLY IN LOVE

and what's the point of bitterness??? cause, i think i'm pushing myself too much to a person that right now i am not sure if there's still love left for me.... x_X

The Stooges, Juliette and The Licks, The Pogues, Social Distorsion, MC5, The Answer, rose Hill Drive, etc...

This baby girl was very lucky to have been born in India. She is being worshipped as a reincarnated god.

This girl was very unlucky to have been born in South Africa. To white parents. In 1955.

Yeeeeeeah.

I recently read When She was White, the story of Sandra Laing, a dark skinned child born to white Afrikaans. Sandra's parents (especially her father) fought long and hard to keep their daughter classified as white. The novel was difficult for me to sit through, not only because it's so disjointed...probably because Sandra is so traumatized by everything that's happened to her that she's blocked out most of her past...but for more obvious reasons. Simply put, the story is damn depressing. Not to mention infuriating. Her parents...where to begin? How does the saying go? De Nile is not just a river in Egypt? Well, I suppose it's not technically denial since they both acknowledged her skin tone as evidence of African ancestry in their family trees, of course, one would have to in that situation, but to expect others to see her as white simply because she was their child? To enroll her in a white boarding school sight unseen and not expect some sort of backlash? That's got to be denial. But of course, to label her as anything but white was out of the question. And if she was indeed white...why couldn't she attend an all white school? Yeah. Makes sense when your life is steeped in crazy racist notions.

When I flipped through the pictures in the book it's obvious that her mother and father felt completely different about Sandra. Her father was not...fond of her. Whereas it's no mystery that Sandra came from Sannie's loins, I'm sure that Abraham was constantly looked down upon as a cuckold. It was obvious that she wasn't his child....right? Right? I don't know how many times I've watched a TV show featuring a man happily awaiting his unborn child only to look astonished as a black screaming baby made his/her debut. It's such a classic "Wait a minute...I'm not the father!" moment. Because otherwise, how would you know? Anything else could be explained away. But even if Sandra wasn't the embodiment of Sannie's indiscretion, she had to pay for being born. She was a stain on their white life. In the end, she went one way and her family went another. She was reclassified as coloured and her family continued to blame her for all of their (and her) problems.

I feel like there was a lesson to be learned in all of this, but ignorance prevailed.

Here are some pictures of Hurst House in the daytime. I DID NOT trespass to take these photographs. The owner showed us the house. DO NOT trespass on this property.

I will also be adding pictures I took of the house after dark.

This photo is of the back wall in Fielding Hurst's bedroom. The small door gives access to one of the attics.

This is the bathroom. It, of course, was added in later years by the Dodds.

This is the original kitchen in the backyard, where the slaves prepared the meals.

This is the grounds behind the house.

This is the front of the house. The tarp covers the leaking roof. The window peeking out from under it is the one you may have seen around the internet with a face in it. That's Hurst's bedroom.

This is the front of the house.

This is a close up of Hurst's bedroom window. Make of it what you will.

This is where a bullet grazed the staircase. Some say this was where Hurst was killed, but this is not true. It is not known how this truly got there and one can only speculate about it as there are no records of what really happened here.

This is the new kitchen which was added on to the back of the house by the Dodds.

This is the chimney and pot from the old kitchen where the slaves cooked. A tree fell on the kitchen a few years back. The new owner intends to restore the building.

This is the back of the house. You can see all the vines and shrubbery that have actually grown to the house over the years.

This is the old barn across the street.

This is the piano inside the house. We assume it belonged to the Dodds.

This is the attic through the small door in Hurst's bedroom.

This is the side of the house. The top window is Hurst's bedroom.

This is the slave quarters located across the street from the house. BEWARE! This property is also owned by the owner of Hurst Mansion. DO NOT trespass! If the snakes don't get you, the guy with the shotgun will.

This was where they collected rainwater.

This wall is in Hurst's bedroom. When the owner peeled away the old wallpaper, they found a multitude of signatures and dates on the wood underneath. The large one is R. T. M. Bell in June 1888. If you have any information on who this person could be, email tnhauntings@writersbeacon.com.

Without meaning to, I assure you.

The signs: I'm highly excited about beer now, and it occurred to me that this is a sign of being a true gay girl - you not only drink beer in order to get up the courage to talk to or dance with a woman in a bar (or in my case to tell your parents that you like like girls, in that way)...you start drinking it for fun, like on weekend trips to French bistros in Brooklyn (Ommegang, please?)

The signs: You live in New York and buy a used bicycle to ride around the city, to make you more authentically "anti-establishment." (Some "straight" girls do this too...more on that below).

The signs: You begin growing your own vegetables so that you do not have to shop in corporate-owned chain supermarkets or even in faux-co-ops that still carry corporate-owned "fair trade" brands.

The signs: You refuse to throw out a really disgustingly dirty pair of Tretorns that you've worn for five years, because they're the most comfortable shoes. And you wear comfortable shoes like all the time because who can stand the pain of wearing heels? (Unless it's a kinky gift for your girlfriend for the holidays, [this does not mean that I have done this, Dad. I just know people who have done this. Friends...um...yeah, friends.]).

The signs: You start thinking every girl you know is a closet lesbian, because how can anyone really like men, like, like like them? (please, dudes, do not get offended. This is humor!)

I think maybe I should start a "stuff gay girls like" blog to compete with "stuff white people like."

Please note: I purposely used the word "like" a lot. I do not actually talk this way. Well, okay, sometimes I do. But not at work.

“So do not weaken and do not grieve, for you will indeed be superior if you are truly believers.

“So do not weaken and do not grieve, for you will indeed be superior if you are truly believers.”

[Al-Quran 3:139]

This verse was revealed to the Messenger (SAS) by Allah The Almighty from above the Seven Heavens, soon after the Muslims suffered a defeat in the Battle of Uhud and returned to Al-Madinah dejected and downtrodden. It was revealed as an encouragement to the believers after a victory that was in their grasp, was snatched away from them and turned into a defeat. And why should the Companions (RA) not have felt devastated at this defeat? Seventy of the best human beings on Earth at the time were killed and countless others were injured. Even the Messenger (SAS) himself was seriously wounded until blood flowed from his face and he said in great anguish whilst wiping the blood from his noble cheeks: “Allah’s Wrath is Great upon the people who besmeared His Messenger’s face with blood.”

However, this defeat was only a temporary setback so that the believers could reflect upon the reasons for the defeat, described in successive verses of Surah Ale-Imran. The mistakes and sins of a few believers had deprived the whole army of victory.

When Umar bin Al-Khattab (RA) despatched the army of Saad bin Abi Waqqas (RA) to the Battle of Al-Qadisiyyah, he advised him: “Fear your sins more than you fear the enemy as your sins are more dangerous to you than your enemy. We Muslims are only victorious over our enemy because their sins outnumber ours, not for any other reason. If our sins were equal to those of our enemy, then they would defeat us due to their superior numbers and resources.”

And so Saad (RA) proceeded to fight the Persians and, sticking to the advice of his leader, he imprisoned the alcoholic Abu Mahjan Ath-Thaqafi lest his presence in the army delays the victory. Until, Abu Mahjan lamented in his shackles and composed verses of poetry that touched the wife of Saad (RA) to temporarily release him so that he could participate in the battle with his brothers. Abu Mahjan thus went out riding the horse of Saad (RA) (as Saad (RA) was bedridden with fever) and performed unmatched feats of valour before returning to his cell in the evening and wearing his shackles back by himself. This continued for three days until, when Saad (RA) found out about the heroics of Abu Mahjan, he untied his shackles with the words: “By Allah! I will never imprison you again for drinking alcohol!” Upon this, Abu Mahjan replied, “By Allah! I will never again touch alcohol after this day!” The army was victorious and Saad (RA) appointed the ascetic Companion Salman Al-Farsi (RA) as the new ruler of Persia, who lived on a meagre salary of one dirham per day.

Victory and defeat, gains and losses, and successes and setbacks are not decided by money, resources, numbers or skills. Rather, they are decided by the balance of obedience and disobedience of Allah The Exalted. The more we obey Allah, both individually and collectively, the more we hasten His Victory. The more we disobey Allah, the more we delay the arrival of His Victory. One Muslim’s sins can delay the victory for everyone. It is very easy to blame Bush and Blair, the ‘West’, the ‘kuffar’ or simply ‘them’ for all our woes and worries. But it is not so easy to look in the mirror and point the finger at ourselves.

Look at us and our pathetic state. We have abandoned Salah or we delay it or rush through it. We are too stingy to give Zakah, let alone optional charity. We prefer to go on holiday than to go for the obligatory Hajj. We drink alcohol, we use and supply drugs (Muslims are amongst the biggest suppliers of drugs in the world today), we cohabit outside wedlock, we steal, we cheat. We eat haram, earn haram and sell haram. We beat our wives and force our daughters into marriages then use Islam to justify it. We are quick to spend on fashion and luxuries but slow to spend on orphans and the needy. We fail to utter a single word, let alone raise a finger, when we see our fellow Muslims imprisoned , tortured, house-arrested, extradited or slain for fear of being ‘linked’ to them. We waste our lives watching television and playing computer games then complain that we don’t have enough time to become better Muslims. We are too addicted to music to find time to listen to or memorise the Quran. We are too busy in fun and games to fulfil our responsibilities as vicegerents on Allah’s Earth. And after all this (and more), we have the audacity to wonder why Allah’s Victory has not yet arrived. With our paltry state, we should more likely expect Allah’s Wrath and Punishment rather than His Victory.

Every sin we commit delays the arrival of Allah’s Victory. Every Salah we delay extends the incarceration of a captive at Guantanamo Bay. Every drug we take allows another Quran to be flushed down the toilet. Every hour we waste watching TV allows another Muslim to be kidnapped and extradited into the hands of savage beasts. Every time we gaze at something forbidden, we place an obstacle in the path of Allah’s Victory. A sin is not a ‘private matter between me and Allah’ but one sin can make the difference between victory and defeat. Every sin we commit is one more reason why Allah should not grant us relief, safety and victory.

Allah has made us a Promise in the aforementioned verse: “So do not weaken and do not grieve, for you will indeed be superior if you are truly believers.” He promises us relief, assistance, superiority and victory on the condition that we are true believers. If we suffer defeats today then it does not mean that Allah’s Promise is false. Instead, the question we must ask ourselves is: are we truly believers?
