Il binomio sale-salute è molto antico e trae origine dalla proprietà del sale di rendere incorruttibile (o almeno così doveva apparire agli antichi) la materia organica trattata con esso. Gli esempi sono innumerevoli e, solo a carattere esemplificativo, si possono citare le mummie egizie e i prosciutti celtici, entrambi trattati con sale che ne permetteva la conservazione per periodi virtualmente illimitati. Le proprietà del sale di conservare inalterate le caratteristiche di un oggetto sono state in seguito traslate su un piano magico-simbolico con un evidente richiamo alla possibilità di conservare nel tempo alcuni aspetti intangibili dell’esistenza umana come la salute, la felicità, la fortuna, oltre alla stessa integrità fisica.

Allo scopo di favorire la sorte delle persone che si distaccavano da amici e parenti per affrontare un viaggio che poteva rappresentare una fonte di pericoli ed imprevisti, venivano chiamati i Salutari, i quali compivano riti e gesti la cui memoria è giunta fino ai nostri giorni. Come descrive Teodoro Massimo nel “De Ambulatione” (XII, 25), i sacerdoti usavano mettersi di fronte alle persone che si accomiatavano chiudevano la mano destra a pugno e la aprivano mostrando la palma con le dita in alto lanciando granelli di sale sugli astanti con funzione benaugurale; le persone in partenza erano felici di ricevere tale benedizione, ma non il sale negli occhi perché causava bruciore, pertanto agitavano la mano destra aperta davanti al viso schermandosi così dal sale che ricadeva. Alle dame era inoltre consentito sventolare un fazzoletto per rendere ancora più efficace tale operazione.

Come si può notare, in tutta la sua evidenza, tali gesti rituali vengono ripetuti ancora oggi in gran parte delle culture occidentali e, anche se dalla fine dell’epoca classica si è perso l’uso di lanciare il sale, i principali segni distintivi del saluto di commiato sono rimasti pressoché invariati.

Una volta tornati in patria i componenti della ciurma esportarono questo costume applicandolo alternativamente a donne e uomini. E’ curioso notare che, in quest’ultimo caso, la pratica risultava alquanto dolorosa e diede vita all’altro termine assai diffuso trapanare.
L’esecuzione di questa tecnica di accoppiamento fece scoprire fortuitamente un ortaggio che si trova sepolto a terra e veniva alla luce durante il preliminare scavo della buca e prende appunto il nome dall’azione di rapanare ovvero “rapa-nello”. La pratica sessuale/sodomitica fu abbandonata dopo essere stata condannata dal Concilio Vaticano I (1870) e rimane in uso in rare zone del Polesine dove il terreno sabbioso ne permette l’esecuzione senza grande sforzo. In seguito il termine rapanare rimase a significare la ricerca dei rapanelli determinando un curioso loop semantico in cui il significato derivato va a determinare il significato primario (come d’altronde è noto nei casi dei lemmi “barbabietola” e “pappagallo”). In base alla legge di Verner sulla mutazione consonantica secondo la quale le originarie occlusive sorde e occlusive sorde aspirate diventano delle occlusive sonore se precedute da consonante nasale o liquida, la “p” divenne “v” e diede origine al verbo ravanare (similmente all’ortaggio “ravanello”) nel significato di “smuovere una grande quantità di terreno per cercare una cosa piccola mentre si è dimenticata la moglie a casa”.

Attraverso varie vicissitudini oramai ricordate come aneddotica a parte (Ricordiamo "incontro della rana con la coda", e "Prigionia coatta col brigante Svinchiaguarra") Cuccurellino giunge infine a Firenze, dove si aspetta di compiere l'atto decisivo della sua formazione.

Aggirandosi per la città in cerca del Bordello descrittogli dal nonno in punto di morte; il giovane nota una lunga coda di uomini in trepidante attesa e fiducioso vi si aggrega, tentando di scambiare convenevoli con gli astanti, la cui riluttanza nel rispondere, non fa altro che confermare a Cuccurellino che si trova nel luogo giusto.

Dopo lunghe ore di attesa, nonostante la pioggia battente e i continui scherzi dei monelli, il giovane Cuccurellino giunge alla tanto ambita meta, solo per vedere un nerboruto fattore uscire sollevandosi i calzoni da una rozza porta di legno con vergata la scritta "Cacatoio".

L'amara scoperta

Informandosi sulla reale funzione del deludente edificio il giovane ingenuo si sente rispondere in maniera assai poco cortese "Ehh qui vo a Cahare!"(da cui, per elisione, il risorgimentale Equivocare); sentendosi distruggere così brutalmente l'illusione, a Cuccurellino non resta altra possibilità che allontanarsi mesto e lasciare la città a capo chino per non farvi più ritorno.

La novella non ci dice quale sia stata la sua sorte, alcune fonti apocrife tuttavia (tra cui la discussa opera del Minghionanti) sostengono che non abbia retto alla vergogna e abbia concluso la sua esistenza appendendosi a un pioppo nell'immediata periferia fiorentina.

In merito a queste desinenze vi sono delle regole di pronuncia ben precise

1. le desinenze -e, -es, -ent che si trovano nell'indicativo presente dei verbi del primo gruppo [verbi in -er] non si pronunciano mai

2. la E nel futuro e nel condizionale dei verbi è muta se preceduta da una sola consonante pronunciata.

N.B. viene invece pronunciata nel caso in cui sia preceduta da più di una consonante pronunciata

Generalmente bisogna tenere presente la seguente regola :

la terminazione -er nell'infinito dei verbi e nella gran parte dei sostantivi e degli aggettivi si pronuncia e (chiusa).

For the past seven years, the place to be in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve has been Jeff Jonas' mansion. This year's wild party was the biggest yet: 1,500 people and all-night entertainment ranging from go-go dancers to fire-­eaters. Jonas planted a huge stage in his poolside garden, added infernotastic choreography, and ended up with a cross between Burning Man and a Prodigy concert. And this year the bash had a new group of partygoers - senior government officials and IBM executives - checking out the spectacle along with the midget, the devil on stilts, and the tattooed Harley guys.

Here's one of the nation's top geeks, Linton Wells II, principal deputy to the chief information officer in the Department of Defense. And there's Mike Nelson, formerly Al Gore's technology adviser and now an IBM exec. And over there, a couple of government spooks who appear to be enjoying the belly dancers in the hookah lounge.

What brought these worlds together? September 11. Jonas is a leading surveillance expert, a database whiz who made his name catching casino cheats. His claim to fame is something called "nonobvious relationship awareness," which is a way of letting computers connect the dots between different data sets - like the big roulette winner who turns out to have the same home phone number as the croupier.

But once the Twin Towers fell, surveillance became a national priority. Homeland Security officials realized that Las Vegas was essentially a state-of-the-art test bed. And Jonas became the go-to guy for sorting through mountains of data, looking not for scam artists but terrorists. Last year IBM bought his company, SRD. Now he's one of about 300 "distinguished engineers" - even though he doesn't hold a college degree.

Jonas, 41, is a buzz machine of ego and energy, a taut triathlete with a string of ex-wives who has been described as "Bill Gates channeling Jim Carrey." In his day job he's working on ways to help the government find terrorists without infringing on privacy. His work on turning sensitive data sets, such as watch lists, into anonymized hash files is a core piece of IBM's growing "identity analytics" strategy.
