<p>I have not been very active on flickr lately and have hardly kept track with what my friends were doing. So, when I logged on the other day.......a NICE surprise was waiting for me. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/zonja/" target="_blank">Zonja Capalini</a> has made some really great videos, they are simply  AMAZING ! :D</br><br />
Zonja: "I filmed a lot of raw footage in wireframe under extreme WindLight settings, then I filmed <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Condensation%20Land/128/128/0">Condensation Land</a> using again WL settings that give an almost-black-and-white look, white fast-moving clouds, and the rest are remnants from the last video, I put the model to dance underwater under, again extreme WindLight settings"</p>
<p>....as simple as that ;)<br />
Of course, there is more to it than adjusting environmental settings / WindLight parameters. Hopefully, Zonja lets us in on the secrets of artistic video making soon.  For the time being, however, she's busy getting footage for her next videos. One thing is for sure, she's a brilliant artist and I will certainly cover more of her artwork in the coming week.<br />

Hace no mucho tiempo hice un post para ilustrar una forma de conseguir el efecto wireframe en cajas]]></description>

<p style="text-align:left;">Hace no mucho tiempo hice un post para ilustrar una forma de conseguir el <a href="http://joaclintistgud.wordpress.com/2008/06/03/inkscape-cajas-con-efecto-wireframe/">efecto wireframe en cajas</a>. Realmente este post desarrolla los mismos conceptos pero un usuario de <a href="http://www.inkscapeforum.com/">InkscapeForum</a> de habla inglesa llamado James me ha pedido que desarrolle un tutorial para crear el globo terráqueo que incorporé como icono para la versión online del curso<strong> Logo a Logo</strong> y que encabeza también este artículo.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Espero que las capturas de pantalla le sirvan para comprender el tutorial...</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Comenzamos por crear un círculo y convertirlo en trazo:</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Eliminamos el nodo de la derecha, convertimos el segmento en recto y lo eliminamos (hacer que entre dos nodos no haya trazo) y editamos las características de color del relleno (sin relleno) y del trazo (negro y un buen grosor)</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Ahora podemos ahorrar algo de trabajo duplicando, haciendo el simétrico vertical y usando los Ajustes pero esto tendría como consecuencia que la distancia entre los meridianos sería siempre la misma al hacer la interpolación (<strong>Efectos/Generar desde trayecto/Interpolar</strong> con <strong>Exponente</strong>=0) y no ayudaría mucho al efecto 3D</p>

<p>Tudo começa com o sitemap:</p>

Las cajas 3D han sido una de las importantes novedades de la reciente versión de Inkscape, la 0.46]]></description>

<p>Las cajas 3D han sido una de las importantes novedades de la reciente versión de Inkscape, la 0.46. En mi opinión a esta herramienta aún le queda algo de camino para resultar verdaderamente versátil, pero un diseñador audaz puede sacarle mucho provecho con una buena dosis de postproducción. En esta ocasión le presento un tutorial sencillo para conseguir darle a esta caja 3D un efecto de malla de alambre (wireframe) muy vinculada con los programas 3D.</p>
<p>Si la caja que saca a escena es la primera del documento Inkscape escogerá como puntos de fuga los lados medios de los límites de papel.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">En realidad esta primera caja es sólo una excusa para poder disponer con garantías de todos los puntos que vamos a necesitar para realizar nuestra caja con el efecto wireframe. Lo primero es activar los ajustes (<em>Archivo/Propiedades del documento/Ajustar</em>) para que los nuevos nodos vayan coincidiendo con las esquinas de la caja:</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Con la herramienta de crear líneas rectas y curvas de bezier hacemos la geometría de la base:</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Después debemos crear la tapa, pero para no liarnos con los el orden de los nodos lo mejor es hacer un duplicado de la base y despues desplazar los nodos a su lugar correspondiente asegurándonos de que se corresponden con los de la base:</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Una vez creada y colocada la tapa la seleccionamos junto con la base que creamos antes y hacemos <em>Efectos/Generar desde trayecto/Interpolar</em>. En el cuadro que nos sale en la interfaz escogemos los parámetros, por ejemplo (deje Exponente a 0.0)</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Ya tenemos creado el efecto wireframe en una de las dimensiones. Lo mejor es coger este grupo y sacarlo fuera para poder trabajar con mayor comodidad.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Creamos la cara vertical izquierda y la cara vertical derecha usando los mismos recursos que antes. Pero en el momento de la interpolación debemos tener en cuenta un par de cosas:</p>
<ul>
<li>Incremente el valor de Exponente a 0.5 o un valor cercano; esto hará que la separación entre los alambres de la malla sea progresiva y beneficie con ello el efecto de perspectiva y profundidad.</li>
<li>Como el valor de Exponente es positivo, para que en nuestro trabajo tenga el efecto esperado debe seleccionar primero la cara vertical izquierda (la lejana) y después la vertical derecha (la cercana)</li>
</ul>

<p>Si mantenemos activos los ajustes no debe resultar complicado llevar este nuevo grupo para que se coloque encima del anterior con precisión y conseguir esto:</p>

<p>Tenemos dos de las dimensiones de nuestro wire. Para hacer la tercera debe repetir el proceso anterior teniendo en cuenta todo lo que ya le he explicado. El resultado:</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">A partir de aquí es cuestión de creatividad. Yo he borrado toda la caja inicial y he creado dos caras nuevas para mi trabajo final pero podía haber aprovechado la caja inicial. También he creado la base para aplicarle algo de desenfoque...</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Been reading a lot about Web 2.0 and got absolutely mind blown by the possibilities and the cool factor involved in the whole deal. Even took up a job in an Online advertising agency to know what the deal is all about. My reading goes something like this -</p>
<p>Web Development projects need a lot of talent in the first place. Strategists, Information Architects, UI professionals, Front end developers, Server side scripters, copy writers, content writers, Relationship Executives, Computer hardware junta, Chai walas, Rickshaw drivers, Office space, intoxicants and of course fast, decent and reliable broadband connection.</p>
<p>Going about the activity in a very White board kind you may divide the process into seven broad categories -</p>
<p>1. Information Architecture Phase</p>
<p>2. Project Management phase</p>
<p>3. Wireframing</p>
<p>4. Design Mockups</p>
<p>5. Front end development (XHTML, CSS, Javascript)</p>
<p>6. Back end development (CMS, PHP, ASP, .NET)</p>
<p>7. Quality Assurance</p>
<p><strong>Information architecture</strong> is the baby of all AOE geeks. An architect could spend long hours, days or weeks tripping on ideas, competition, functionalities, features and what not. A few techniques here and there like mind mapping, Card sorting and related jazz could get you a lot of dope on things that could be done, could not be done, should be torn and shot into a trashcan (from a distance or point blank range). A lot of new age websites do have a lot of architecture behind it - Look a facebook, cleartrip or Orkut for instance.</p>
<p>"Should I allow a first time user to read some random astrology stuff?"</p>
<p>"I could make a seasoned user 'SLAP' a fried. What about a 'THROW A BEER' or rather just ask them to chill out and watch a movie"</p>
<p>"Do you just want to go to Delhi? No hotel booking? What about sight seeing? Oh, so you are an executive. Would you like to surf the net when you land? Have you thought about where you will pee? do you know the Vadapao vendor at Banglore?"</p>
<p>Information Architecture -  Microsoft Visio - Kivio (Linux users anyone?) - Dia (Less sophiscated Linux Users - anyone!!??)</p>
<p>But hey, business is not for you to trip on arbit stuff. Ever thought about this concept called time? Or about these homosapiens called clients? They would enjoy the Vadapao questions for sometime till money and opportunity costs come knocking hard on the doors. Speed up architects - 5 minutes remaining!!!</p>
<p><strong>Project Management - </strong>The whole planning can start here. How much time to create a wireframe, how may days for an approval, how much time and how many resources for tech work etc. Can get to your nerves in a 'tight' project or can trip on timings and processes. Use MS Projects, Gantt Charts, Project trackers and all the corporate tools here to make an effect!!!</p>
<p><strong>Wireframing</strong> - The IA (Information Architecture) looks for hundred and twenty two things on the homepage. All of them look good. All look important. All look cool. All need attention.</p>
<p>"Whatever happened to the clean white breathing space jazz - make another heavily cluttered shitty looking website guys - way to go" - the necessary evil guy in all Web development agencies - comes in the form of Relationship Managers, Front End Developers, "Experts" and random guys who appear out of nowhere - Popup blockers do not come in real life!!! (SAD!)</p>
<p>Wireframing to the rescue!</p>
<p>These guys are Gods. They can make an over crowded Mumbai local look good - Ah! Put the long distance travellers inside on the seats. Put your bags on the overhead compartment. The young and adventurous on top of the train (careful - just dont balance yourself using the overhead lines). They talk in terms of placeholders, link holders, usability, 508 etc. Take up the responsibility of Riot Police in a web agency. Good people, nice people. They dream in B&#38;W and has really fast fingers -  shortcuts on Autocad and stuff - must have a good sex life! Enjoy making chaos look good! Butterfly effect???</p>
<p>No one would be so bothered about usability tests as a Wireframing executive. Navigation, User Science, First time user, Seasoned user - they know it all (better know it all - its your website, its your money)</p>
<p><strong>Design Mockups</strong> - Creativity vs. Science. The ultimate dream that comes true! Arts meets mathematics - I am so bloody excited.</p>
<p>The B&#38;W user centric Wireframes comes out of the sixties in Eastman color (READ WEB FRIENDLY COLORS - capitals to disturb the reader and to make my point so clear - clearly I am no wireframe expert)</p>
<p>The Web 2.0 of rounded edges, over sized icons, reflections, Sans Seriff fonts - design mockups!</p>
<p>Watching a design mockup is more or less like watching a whole website in jpeg format. Clients love them. Their trip starts here! Straight from the logo to the (c) Copyright font. Relationship Managers have a time here selling the designs - usability, business ideas, users and the general bored guy hitting Google to fight sleep at work  - no one is spared here - we need every single net user on the planet to come here and "Register with us" or "Pay us for whatever we sell"</p>
<p>Approval - the necessary evil to trip on your remaining Web 2.0 dreams. No one - not a single web developer is advised to go ahead with the coding of your webpages without being 100% happy with the design mockups - [The text (copy in advertising language) is NOT A PART of design mockups].</p>
<p>Copy Writers and Content Writers can work parallely on making the captions, the initial content, the messages etc. at this point of time. Design mockups do have a big part in the fonts, font sizes, font colors etc. Again being "web friendly" when it comes to the text is of mighty importance. We dont want our copy to look like shit just because some jack asses do not like Mozilla!!! What if some non tech savvy 20 words a minute, 55 year old - "We never used computers on a daily basis" rich guy actually wants to "Register" or "pay using Paypal"???</p>
<p><strong>Front end development - </strong>XHTML / CSS / Javascript to put it in very concise and simple terms. All the designs (in form of Photoshop drawings, Flashes etc.) is converted into HTML (HTML 4.01 with external CSS - in detail). The weight of the website, the way it loads, the closeness to the design etc. all depends majorly on your front end coding.</p>
<p>In fact initial marketing of the website (Search Engine Optimization) could start off here. It is recommended to first finish off with the coding and think of SEO later though.</p>
<p>Two forms of coding as on date (with Divs and with tables). Anyone who uses tables to do their stuff needs to be kicked on their crouch immediately. It sucks - why? too heavy! But Divs takes an insane amount of time - worth it also!</p>
<p><strong>Backend Development - </strong>Most websites are just about information - We are this, we do this, please get in touch. However, there are a lot of websites which develops a special kind of relationship with the user such as E-commerce, Publishers, Financial Services etc. They need to be updated regularly, collect data and respond accordingly, put fresh content regularly etc. A simple HTML / CSS site could end up shitting bricks if these things are needed.</p>
<p>ASP, PHP, .NET etc are certain computer languages capable of doing all these things. You may need to build a CMS (Content Management System) or do a little bit of programming or develop logic (like how you add friends in orkut, surf images on Flickr, poke chicks on Facebook and so on). <strong>Backend Development </strong>- Geek paradise!!!</p>
<p><strong>Quality Assurance - </strong>Yes! The website is live! My product is out! I am so HAPPPPYYYYY! Hold it mister. Your website sucks! It has a million spell check errors, links that do not work, Sitemap which does jackshit and site looks like a rebellious teenager's room on Internet Explorer 6. Now what!!!</p>
<p>Yes, sit and do your quality checks. Make a list of bugs, check them out once done. Patience, time and peace - three very important qualities needed for this exercise. Ususally done on a staging server (you would host the website on a free server / paid server with a funny URL and test it before hosting it on the domain which you paid for).</p>
<p><strong>GO - LIVE - </strong>Yes, the site is live. Now what?????</p>
<p>1. INTERNET MARKETING - SEO, SEM, PPC, PPA, Social Media, Affiliate Marketing, Email marketing, Banner ads, Offline marketing, Google page ranks, Yahoo page ranks - Its a different ball game then.</p>
<p>2. SITE MAINTENANCE - Update content, remove un-necessary content, archive stuff, new pages etc.</p>

<p>Dieser Artikel behandelt ein recht neues Thema, das sehr lange nur wenig betrachtet wurde. Viele kennen das Problem das auftritt wenn man eine Webseite erstellen möchte die irgendwie mit <a title="Geschäftsprozesse" href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gesch%C3%A4ftsprozess" target="_blank">Geschäftsprozessen</a> zusammenhängt.</p>
<p>Ein Beispiel: Ernst will für seine Fahrrad Firma eine Website bauen. Er hat schon eine eigene Website und möchte diese nun mit einem speziellen Abrechnungssystem versehen, das schon auf seinem Rechner existiert. Damals hatte er auch ein Prozessmodell dafür aufgebaut. Da das Programm sehr interaktiv ist muss er irgendwie seine Website mit seinem Geschäftsmodell verbinden um sich einen Überblick zu verschaffen an welchen Stellen er welche Navgation und eventuellen Inhalt setzen muss. Das sollte das Problem verdeutlichen.</p>
<p>Manche werden jetzt sagen das man das ja alles nicht braucht weil es ja CMS gibt die so etwas können.</p>
<p>Bis zu einem gewissen Punkt ist das sicher richtig. Aber wenn die Aufgabe komplex wird kommt man schnell an die Grenzen dieser "Just do it" Mentalität. Viele kleinere Unternehmen haben das Problem der dynamischen IT. Das Unternehmen wächst aber die IT nicht. Irgendwann ist dann aber nötig und man muss viel gleichzeitig ändern. Dann ist es oft essentiell Struktur und Datenintegration zu implementieren um die Übersicht zu behalten und weiter zu wachsen.</p>
<p>Was wäre da denn eine Lösung??</p>
<p>Er sollte Wireframes für seine Logische Struktur nutzen. (<a title="Wireframes" href="http://www.webkrauts.de/2007/12/22/wireframes/" target="_blank">René Grasseggers</a> Artikel über Wireframes)</p>
<p>Da er den Prozess ja schon hat kann er in seiner Entwicklungsumgebung, in diesem Fall <a title="ARIS" href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARIS" target="_blank">ARIS</a> nutzen und seine Wireframe Übersicht dort direkt konstruieren. Das Modell das er dafür nutzen kann heißt Maskennavigation. Im Maskendesign Modell hat er die Möglichkeit seine Websiten als Wireframes zu erstellen oder als <a title="OLE" href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Object_Linking_and_Embedding" target="_blank">OLE</a> Objekt wenigstens zu verlinken. Auf dieser Ebene kann er dann die Prozesse die mit der Website interagieren aufführen und als Hinterlegung seinen Prozess einbinden.</p>
<p>1.Ebene Wireframe Übersicht Seite im Maskennavigation Modell -&#62; Struktur der Website</p>
<p>2.Ebene Einzelne Wireframes und die angesprochenen Prozesse im Maskendesign Modell -&#62;  Verlinkung Website und Prozessebene</p>
<p>3.Ebene: Prozesse werden durch z.B. ein <a title="EPK" href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ereignisgesteuerte_Prozesskette" target="_blank">EPK</a> Modell beschrieben.</p>
<p>Fazit: Es gibt die Möglichkeit Websiten mit Geschäftsprozessen zu verlinken. Die Technik steckt aber noch in den Kinderschuhen, wird aber immer mehr beachtung finden aufgrund der massiven Verlagerung der Prozesse in das Web</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Here is an article about "storyboarding" for website development: http://www.grokdotcom.com/storyboard.htm, and one about wireframing:http://www.grokdotcom.com/wireframing.htm   I've always done this myself.  With any web project I start by considering the needs of my clients customers and what they would need and want out of the website.  I come up with the main categories and topics and determine how the website should be categorized by drawing various wireframes to illustrate the possible paths of navigations.  In regards to e-commerce sites especially larger ones that depend on organizing a database of products into groups and subgroups, I like to think of the site in levels.  That is how many levels from the landing page to the actual shopping cart.  Then I draw thumbnail sketches of each level.  Doing so gets me thinking about ease of navigation and how the site might come together.  I often find myself doing a few revisions before settling on something.  That is the point of doing this.  Also, it is for the client, so that he knows you have a plan, and you can dive into the project with the confidence, that the client has approved your concepts.  It's worth your time from the begining to brainstorm and do a few thumbnail sketches, than to consider one or more revisions of the final product.</p>

<p><strong>O que é um WIREFRAMES? </strong><br />
Um wireframe é um documento elaborado durante a fase de arquitetura de informação de um projeto web que tem como função estruturar o conteúdo de cada página, indicando o peso e relevância de cada elemento do layout e a sua relação com os demais elementos formadores do todo.</p>
<p>Além desta função estrutural, o wireframe também é utilizado para a marcar etapas de um processo de interação entre o utilizador e o sistema, fornecendo um wireframe por cada ecrã que explique detalhadamente todos os elementos presentes na página e como o utilizador pode interagir com eles.</p>
<p>A origem do nome “wireframe” vem da união de duas palavras em inglês: “wire” (linhas) e “frames” (ecrãs). Ou seja, são ecrãs de baixa resolução e com um aspecto gráfico muito comun que servem apenas para indicar onde devem estar localizados os objetos e menus de interação.mostrando assim os aspetos gráficos de uma aplicação.</p>
<p>Elaborando wireframes, podemos concentrar-nos somente nas questões da interface - como acessibilidade e usabilidade - deixando questões estéticas para uma próxima etapa. Além disso, é possível discutir melhor com o cliente em cima de um wireframe. Se ele decide mudar alguma coisa, é mais fácil mudar um esboço do que um layout pronto. Salvo claro que esta etapa podemos tratar durante a prototipagem em papel (portanto mais rápido e mais barato).</p>
<p><strong>Como desenhar um wireframe?</strong></p>
<p>Existem algumas aplicações com funções específicas para desenhar wireframes, entre elas temos o Microsoft Visio, o OmniGraffle, o Adobe Illustrator ou o Adobe InDesign.</p>
<p>A vantagem de desenhar em XHTML é que os protótipos são funcionais e na fase de concepção poupa-se trabalho porque o esqueleto das páginas já está feito. Mas perde-se muito mais tempo a codificar o XHTML e o CSS correspondente do que se desenharmos os ecrãs através de objetos “drag &#38; drop”.</p>
<p><strong>Fidelidade</strong></p>
<p>A primeira coisa a se fazer quando começamos a projetar wireframes é definir se eles serão construídos em baixa, média ou alta fidelidade. Todos têm suas vantagens e desvantagens e a opção por um deles varia de acordo com as necessidades do projeto.</p>
<p>Os de baixa-fidelidade não possuem elementos gráficos nem conteúdo real.<br />
Os de média-fidelidade possuem um grau de detalhamento maior, indicando aspectos de conteúdo, layout e sistemas de navegação. Já os de alta-fidelidade chegam mais próximo do que será o design gráfico, simulando com exatidão tamanho da página e das fontes e podendo servir como protótipos.</p>
<p><strong>Cor</strong></p>
<p>O uso de cores deve ser evitado eu por exemplo utilio branco e tons de cina. Isto evita confunidr o designer gráfico com as cores que realmente a aplicação deva ter.</p>
<p><strong>Consistência</strong></p>
<p>O ideal também é manter a consistência portanto, manter um mesmo posicionamento e tamanho de elementos que se repetem ao longo das páginas que serão esboçadas nos wireframes.</p>
<p><strong>Anotações</strong></p>
<p>Sempre que algum ponto ficar confuso ou obscuro o ideal seria colocar um comentário para que possamos ter uma real em relação a dúvida que surge.</p>
<p>Também é importante manter nos wireframes uma numeração lógica, o nome do autor, o projeto a que ele se refere, quando foi construído e quando foi modificado pela última vez. Se for necessário, um histórico de modificações também pode ser providenciado.</p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;"><strong>OPINIÃO DE UM TERCEIRO SITE QUE CONSULTEI A ALGUM TEMPO--</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;"><em><strong>" Programas para construção de wireframes</strong></em></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;"><em>O melhor programa que conheço para construção de wireframes é o Axure RP Pro11. Como ele foi concebido quase que exclusivamente para esta função, é um software bastante completo e que já vem com todas as tradicionais formas do wireframes embutidas em uma biblioteca própria.</em></span></p>
<p><em>Outra grande vantagem do Axure é que ele gera protótipos navegáveis. Ou seja, você pode fazer com que os links levem a determinado wireframe, permitindo que o protótipo seja testado e validado antes de seguir para o design gráfico. Esses protótipos são exportados em HTML, levando consigo tanto o índice geral no lado esquerdo quanto as anotações no rodapé da página.</em></p>

<p><strong>VOLTANDO....</strong></p>
<p>O software mais utilizado no mercado é o Microsoft Visio. O Visio é uma ferramenta para construção de gráficos em geral, bastante fácil de usar e com a possibilidade de importar bibliotecas de formas que ajudam na construção dos wireframes.</p>
<p>Mas você pode construir seus wireframes em qualquer aplicação gráfica, até mesmo no <strong>velho powerpoint</strong>.</p>

<p><strong>Mas então, o que é Wireframe mesmo?</strong><br />
De acordo com a <a href="http://fatorw.com/2006/08/15/como-construir-wireframes/">Fator W</a>:</p>

<p>Wireframe então é um desenho básico de uma interface. Este desenho, no entanto, deve retratar toda a <span style="text-decoration:underline;">arquitetura de informação do sistema desejada pelo client</span>e. Deve-se observar também que o wirefame retrata a <span style="text-decoration:underline;">usabilidade</span> do sistema. No entanto, este desenho deve ser muito simples e resumido, informando ao desenvolvedor apenas o que for estritamente necessário.</p>
<p>Wireframe seria um esqueleto do site, que deve ser feito antes de iniciar a montagem do layout com cores e imagens.</p>

<p>Completely inspired by CommonCraft.com's video explanation of how things work.</p>
<p>Thinking about how to use similar techniques to help explain  proposed functionality to clients. Will be particularly useful in explaining AJAX functions - as I'm already grappling with the difficulty of how these complex interactions can be documented - for testing, for client approval and for dev teams</p>
<p>I asked Lee at <a href="http://www.commoncraft.com" target="_self">CommonCraft</a> for some tips on how to get started. (I wondered if it was a bit cheeky, as they make videos for a living - but I received a lovely response really soon afterwards). Here's what he said:</p>

Really quick run down - ready?</p>
<p>1. We write a script<br />
2. We create a quick storyboard to establish the flow and artwork needed<br />
3. We create the art work<br />
4. We point a Sony Handycam (on a tripod) straight down onto a whiteboard and record all the scenes in the storyboard.<br />
5. We record the audio separately</p>
<p>We use GarageBand to edit the audio and Final Cut Express to edit the video and create the final product.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Some time ago we were talking about the different roles we have in this project. Arto called me a bard: the character from RPGs who is jack-of-all-trades and master of none. This was not a compliment, as he laughed to the extent of being insulting. He also made some rude gestures and implied all sorts of things which I won't repeat here. He is my best friend.</p>
<p>As a hard boiled consultant Tommi tried to accommodate the insult and be the mediator in our little workshop, so he said: "all people have value and none shall feel left out"... So he called me a producer instead.</p>
<p>I took pride: Producer. That's who I am. Not with a insignificant a, but with a capitol P with The; not a bard who just sings gay songs while playing a sorry arse flute, but a producer who is a gay friend of everyone, saying all sorts of gay things about everything in the project...did I say gay? I didn't.</p>
<p>So I'm Producer. Now what?</p>
<p>After they stopped laughing, they said I should do some blog entries. "I will", I said, "I know how this stuff works". I work as a digital media consultant and the last years I have been ranting about the whole web 2.0, convergence, RSS and the tyranny of transparency etc. thingies to my colleagues and clients, while thinking: "Only if I could turn my knowledge into something interesting to write"...</p>
<p>I couldn't.</p>
<p>So I decided to do 3D instead.</p>
<p>Me.</p>
<p>I'm artistically multi-challenged: I can't draw and my hand wrought signature is embarrassing -at the age of eight, I even tried cheating my blind music teacher in the recorder trial by whistling instead of playing the damn thing due to lack of talent and obviously got caught: "what are you doing?" she asked...so I got fail...(true story).</p>
<p>But I wanted!</p>
<p>I wanted to do something to make the whole process of  our game development to go forward: I came up with the concept. I wanted to make it true. I wanted to create.</p>
<p>So I did. I took up the challenge, made some searches and found Google Sketch-up.</p>
<p>Brilliant: 3D made easy was the promise, and I took it.</p>
<p>After 6h of learning &#38; labor, I had something. A sketch. Something to show to my friends, a rudimentary torso it was, but a starting point!</p>
<p>Making the sketch brought up problematics that were not even thought before:  Where do the stairs go to? Where do I place the entry points to the gatling guns, where does the supply tent reside, what are the distances?</p>
<p>The questions were endless and the learning profound: If you have a high-level concept, convert it into a real item. With free tools, like <a href="http://www.sketchup.com/" target="_blank">Sketch-up</a>, any silly bugger can start working toward the intended end result. Think of it as a wireframe model and don't worry how it looks like -that is the fastest way to get yourself thinking what needs to be done and thought of, and more importantly, get it out there for your mates to comment &#38; build upon (the 3D model that is).</p>
