Top 10 Wrestlemania Matches

I am asking for your opinions on which Wrestlemania matches I should leave off, and what should be moved on. The fact is that there have been some stellar matches and I KNOW that this list that I will make will be the most controversial, because everyone has their favorites. While Rock/Hogan and Hogan/Andre at WM 3 were classic and great, oozing with emotion, the matches sucked technically. See my problem? I really like Hulk/Warrior, but some may thing that that match sucked. How could I include Taker/Batista and leave of Macho/Hogan or Hogan/Andre? That is an example of what might appear when I am done with the list.

The only chance that HHH will get at being a part of this list is if Taker gets him there, and I dont see that happening, via vote. So much for 11+ titles and NO top 10 Wrestlemania matches to show for it, Hunter.

I hope to see this discussed on "The Rant." I will email you guys.

Which ones should I remove and which should I keep?
The ones marked "STAYS" would be impossible for me to remove off the list.

HBK/Bret -STAYS
Macho/Steamboat -STAYS
HBK/Flair -STAYS
Bret/Austin -STAYS
Austin/Rock/ WM 17 -STAYS
TLC WM 17 -STAYS
Edge/Foley - STAYS

HBK/Razor
Triangle Ladder match WM 2000
HBK/HHH/Benoit
Hulk/Andre WM III
Taker/Batista
Taker/Edge
Cena/HBK
HBK/Y2J
Owen/Bret
Goldust/Piper Parking Lot Brawl - one of my FAVS!!!!!
MITB WM 24
Benoit/MVP I just really liked that match
MITB WM 22
Benoit/Angle WM 17

The match that began flaring and fuming up for many months… the match we were all anticipating

The match that began flaring and fuming up for many months... the match we were all anticipating... Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg, the clash of the titans!

It all started when Brock's ego got the better of him. Brock is the tyrant on Smackdown and he ruled the Smackdown brand with the help of Vince Mcmahon. Bill Goldberg was just doing as good as Brock in terms of his brand name but on Raw. Brock was jealous and irate, but that didn't came until Bill Goldberg mocked at Brock after his match with Kurt at Royal Rumble 2004. He decided to screw Bill Golberg and he did it on an attempt Bill Goldberg was in the ring with 29 other competitors in a Royal Rumble Royal Battle Match. Brock F5ed Bill Goldberg and Bill Goldberg was taken advantage of and was elimnated by another opponent who saw the chance. Bill Goldberg was out of the Rumble, but that didn't end in this hasty story buildup. Following No Way Out, about a month after Royal Rumble, Bill Goldberg revenged immediately by causing Brock Lesnar of his match with Eddie Guerrero, causing Brock the championship title. Brock was devastated with the loss of his championship belt, he begged Vince for an Interpromotional Match with Bill Goldberg on Wrestlemania. That was indeed the first time we saw Brock on his knees, in his tears, begging... but the match came true!

Stone Cold was invited as the special guest referee for the Wrestlemania match that took place between Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg. From some independant sources, Brock was scheduled to win the match with Bill Goldberg's departure at WWE after the expiration of his 1 year contract at WWE which obviously he had no intention to extend, but the outcome was very much against Brock as rumours surrounded the fact that Brock was leaving just as well for his pursuit of a dream career; to become a NFL football player!

I have been a long-time fan of wrestling video games. I owned virtually every THQ game on N64, wit

I have been a long-time fan of wrestling video games. I owned virtually every THQ game on N64, with my favourites being WCW/nWo Revenge (which I still maintain had the deepest roster of any game ever) and the venerable WWF No Mercy. I then migrated over to Sony and have owned every single PS2 adaptation of SmackDown except for Just Bring It (which apparently means I own all the GOOD ones).

Everyone loves to create their own legends wrestlers and have their favourite classics take on each other, or current superstars. But these "creations" were never 100% "right". If only a game coming along would allow you to truly go back, in a way that was (until now) only hinted at with the Blue Steel Cage and WrestleMania IX ring from a few SmackDown's ago. Good news... there IS.

THQ has announced a WWE Legends of WrestleMania game. While minimal details are known at this time, it is confirmed that Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan are in the game. And judging by this video here, it looks incredible.

IGN also has an interesting little preview, and I am exceptionally pumped to hear that Heenan (as Andre's manager) actually gets involved in the match.

No roster details are announced, so let the specualting begin! It's highly unlikely that the Ultimate Warrior will be in the game due to his licensing issues with WWE/WWF, not to mention his questionable sanity. And unfortunately, I doubt "Macho Man" Randy Savage will be in; they still haven't released a DVD compilation of one of their best World Champions ever, nor have they had any involvement with him since he left WCW. While there are rumours about why this is so (rumours which I will not help perpetuate), it is a shame. Because I would love to re-enact the Main Events from WrestleMania V and VI.

The game contains 40 wrestlers, and is set in the 80s and 90s. There are countless stars from those eras for WWE to choose from, and so many WrestleMania Moments to be recreated. I can't wait!

Date: March 20th, 1994

Commentary: Vince McMahon, Jerry “The King

Date: March 20th, 1994
Location: Madison Square Garden
Commentary: Vince McMahon, Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Background notes: Lex Luger and Bret Hart became co-#1 contenders for the WWF Championship after they became the simultaneous final eliminations of the Rumble. Commissioner Jack Tunney ruled that both men would get a singles shot at then champion Yokozuna, with a coin toss deciding who got a shot first (Lex won). Further Bret had also been feuding with his brother, Owen, after a collision between Bret and Owen caused Owen to be eliminated at the Survivor Series the previous year. Other notable feuds were between Bam Bam Bigelow and (sigh) Doink the Clown, Randy Savage and Crush, and a feud between “HBK” Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon over who was the proper WWF Intercontinental Champion.

We start the show off with a retrospective of all Wrestlemania 1, before a lame opening video. We then get introduced by Vince McMahon, sporting his “I'm going to lose my voice by the end of the night if I keep this up” voice – which is just short of the voice of his Mr. McMahon persona, which has yet to debut. He introduces Little Richard to sing “America The Beautiful”. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Vince introduces Jerry Lawler, who is making his Wrestlemania debut, as his broadcast colleague. Jerry, you're not wrestling, please put on a shirt. We get a video recap of the Bret & Owen Hart feud up to this point (including a brief bit of Owen being interviewed by Scotty Polo (who, dear readers, may know as Raven).

“The Rocket” Owen Hart vs. Bret “The Hitman” Hart

This is going to be great. I want to mention that we have a much more schnazzy entrance area this time, with sliding doors. Some very nice chain wrestling right off the back, with Bret taking control early on. Owen gets Bret in a waistlock, but Bret manages to flip Owen to the outside. Owen is pissed. Owen rolls in the ring, and then slaps the spit out of Bret. We get back to some chain wrestling, focusing on the ankle and wrists. Bret manages to get a 2-count off of Owen with a nice little roll up in the corner.

We get a nice solid “Let's Go Bret” chant by the audience. Owen breaks out of his current hold with an elbow to the chin. Owen and Bret do a running chain, with Owen getting clotheslined to the floor. Bret drags Owen back to the ring, both men get into a shoving match, with Bret slapping Owen this time, and getting a rollup for 2. Bret gains control, working over Owen's arm. Crucifix by Bret for 2.

Owen gets control with a running spinning heel kick. Owen literally kicks Bret out of the ring. Owen picks up Bret and slams him back first into the ring post. Owen throws Bret back in the ring. Owen beats Bret from pillar to post, before hitting a backbreaker and then locking on the Camel Clutch, but Bret manages to power out. Owen hits a belly-to-belly suplex for 2. Owen gets sent for the ride, Owen hits a springboard cross body, which Bret rolls through for 2.

Owen locks on a reverse chinlock on Bret. Owen moves to picking up Bret, but Bret manages to reverse the move so that he lands on Owen for 2. Bret rolls to the outside, and when he goes back in, Owen tries to suplex him back in the ring. Bret reverses. Standing switch. Bridging German suplex by Owen for 2. Owen goes for a vertical suplex, Bret reverses to a Small Package for 2. Bret goes for a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, Owen reverses to a Tombstone and goes up top, goes for a flying splash, but Bret rolls out of the way.

Bret hits an inverted atomic drop, covers for 2. Russian leg sweep by Bret for 2. Bret hits a backbreaker and goes up, hits his measured elbow drop for 2. Owen hits a enziguri on Bret and goes to lock on the sharpshooter, but Bret tries to reverse it into one of his own, but Bret breaks out. Owen goes for a pin, 2 count. Owen rolls out of the ring, Bret hits a pescado, but appears to have injured his knee. Owen recovers first and starts working Bret's knee over, starting with kicks, moving on to slamming it against the ring post, and then to hitting him with a Dragon Screw. Owen applies a Figure-4 leg lock on Bret, but Bret manages to roll over and reverse the hold, forcing Owen to roll to the ropes.

Owen keeps working over Bret's knee. Bret finally regains control with an enziguri of his own, and he beats his brother from pillar to post. Guillotine legdrop for 2. Bulldog by Bret for 2. Bret connects with a piledriver again for 2. Bret sets Owen up on the top rope. Vertical superplex! Bret can only get 2! Owen finally regains control and locks on the sharpshooter! Bret manages to break out (officially – though he does tap the mat 3 times, loudly) and lock one of his own, but Owen reaches the ropes. Bret goes for a victory roll, but Owen reverses it for 3!

Winner: “The Rocket” Owen Hart by pinfall through a reversed Victory roll at 10:24.
Rating: **** - Bret and Owen put on a clinic. I'm not sure what's going to top this. I hope that Owen got a title shot later (and it's a shame he never won a WWF Championship reign). Particularly since Owen got a clean pin.

We're backstage with Todd Pettingill with Owen for an interview. Owen declares himself “The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best There Ever Will Be.” We go to the ring to Sy Spirling, president (at that time) of the Hair Club For Men, to introduce his newest success story – Howard Finkle! That's right ladies and gentlemen, he's got a dashing head of hair.

Mixed Tag Match: Bam Bam Bigelow & Luna Vachon vs. Doink The Clown and Dink The Clown

No good can come of this. Doink and Bam Bam start. Bam basically levels Doink with a series of shoulder blocks and a drop kick. Doink gains control when Bam Bam misses a leg drop. Doink gets the tag to Dink, and Dink wants a shot at Bam Bam, but Bam Bam must tag in Luna. Dink basically makes Luna look like an idiot (poor Luna). Luna finally gets control and finally pounds the crap out of Luna. Dink gets control when Luna misses a top rope splash.

Bam Bam and Doink get tagged in. Doink goes for a sunset flip but Bam Bam reverses it. Doink regains control though. Doink goes up top, goes for a flying leg drop but misses. Bam Bam regains control, and while he's bouncing off the ropes, he “accidentally” hits Dink with his elbow. Bam Bam goes up and hits a flying headbutt for 3.

Winner: Bam Bam Bigelow with a flying headbutt at 6:10.
Rating: ** - Meh. I'm glad Doink didn't win.

After the match, we get “Hail To The Chief” over the PA system, revealing that Bill Clinton is attendance this evening, by which I mean a Clinton Impersonator.. Sitting right behind him is Irwin R. Shyster. A fan hands a sign to “Bill”, who holds it up – it appears to be a Bret Hart sign. Whatever.

Falls Count Anywhere: “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Crush (w/ Mr. Fuji)

Randy jumps the bell, with Randy and Crush brawling in the entrance way. Crush slams Randy throat first on the railing for 3. According to Finkle (who didn't get a chance to finish giving the stipulation) when a pin or submission occurs, the pinned wrestler has 60 seconds to get from wherever he was pinned to the ring. So it's more like a modified Texas Death Match. Fuji smacked Savage in the back with his Japanese flag, but Savage manages to respond the count at the last second.

Crush continues working over Savage. Crush ties Savage in the Tree Of Woe, and works him over a bit, Crush gets some salt slipped to him by Fuji (covertly). Crush tries to throw it into Savage's face, but Savage reverses it, and continues working over Crush. I will mention that aside from the salt and Fuji's flagpole no foreign objects were employed. Savage hits the flying elbow, slides crush outside of the ring and gets the pin, but Crush makes it at the last second as well (thanks to Mr. Fuji with a pitcher of ice water.

Savage tries to finish Crush, but he gets back-dropped to the outside. Savage regains control there, and slams Crush against the ring post, the ring steps, and then clotheslines him over the rail. Savage. Crush regains control with a super kick. Crush goes for a piledriver on the concrete, but Savage reverses it into a back drop. Savage takes crush towards the backstage area.. yep, we're backstage. Is it too early for an ECW chant? Whatever, I'm doing it anyway. Savage gets the pin in some area that's under construction. I have no idea how he's going to make this back. Just to make sure Crush doesn't make it back. Savage ties Crush up by his ankles, and hangs him up by his feet. Let's see you make the 60 second count now, bitch! And he doesn't!

Winner: “Macho Man” Randy Savage by pinfall at 9:44 after Crush failed to respond after 1 minute.
Rating: *** - Decent match, but I must admit I got spoiled by the Falls Count Anywhere matches that would come later from the likes of Mick Foley, and the various and sundry people who came through ECW.

Also, as a question for those who have the DVD. Check at 1:01:16. The blond in the lower left corner of the screen – is that Miss Elizabeth? Meanwhile, Todd Pettingill interviews “President Clinton”, with Irwin R. Shyster getting a bit of dialog in. We then get a video package about the WWF Fanfest. We then go to a promo with Savage at the Paramount theater. Is it Intermission already? Nope, guess not.

WWF Woman's Championship: Lelani Kai vs. Alundra Blayze (c)

This is Blayze's Wrestlemania debut. She's previously wrestled in WCW and in All Japan. Kai takes control early on. Interesting (in a bad way, mix of styles here. Lelani doesn't have much wrestling ability, but Alundra could probably keep up with most luchadors, due to her Joshi experience. The two women trade near-falls, before a scratch on the DVD keeps me from watching the rest of the match. Damn! Ditto with Men On A Mission vs. The Quebecers (Jacques Rougeau and Pierre) for the Tag Team Titles (which would be Scott “Raven” Levy and Pierre's Wrestlemania Debut), and Lex Luger vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Championship.

So, in short. Blayze beats Kai, Men On A Mission win by count-out, so The Quebecers retain the belts, and Lex Luger gets himself DQ'd, so Yokozuna retains the belt, and will face Bret for the Title in the main event. This leads us into intermission, which is a few recap videos and promos, leading us into...

Ladder Match for the WWF Intercontinental Title: “HBK” Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon w/ Diesel

Now, to win, you have to retrieve not one, but 2 belts, as when the title holder was disputed, both Michaels and Razor were carrying title belts a claiming that they were the legitimate champion. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that this is Diesel's Wrestlemania Debut, putting all 3 current members of the Kliq in the ring at the same time (albeit briefly).

We start off with some chain wrestling between Razor and Shawn, capping off with a chokeslam by Razor. Another fast sequence capping off with a neckbreaker by Michaels. More wrestling with Razor getting thrown to the outside. Diesel clotheslines Razor, leading to Diesel being ejected from the building. This gives Razor time to recover and regroup. Razor takes control, smacking Shawn around inside and outside the ring. Razor takes a little too much time outside the ring, taking up some of the mats by the ring (to expose the concrete), allowing Shawn to regain control for a bit. Razor levels Shawn with a big right hand, and goes for the Razor's Edge, (his powerbomb finisher), only to have it reversed into a backdrop over the top rope, that leaves Razor sprawled on the concrete (oh, the irony).

HBK goes for the ladder, but Razor manages to get back to his feet, across the ring, and then floors Michaels (who was takng his sweet time. Razor sets the ladder on the apron, but HBK baseball slides the ladder into Razor! ECW! ECW! ECW! Razor painfully slides into the ring, and gets to his feet, only to have HBK nail Razor in the gut with the ladder like a battering ram. Michaels then slams the ladder on Razor's gut, and then smacks him a few more times for good measure. Michaels finally sets up the ladder and starts climbing. Razor manages to grab HBK's ankle, then the back of his tights, and we have a full moon in New York City, and the ladies in the audience are going wild! We get a full shot of muscular buttocks, briefly, as Michaels (who has his priorities straight, I guess) drops an elbow off the ladder on Razor, and then corrects his clothing. I haven't heard squeeing of the like since the first time Jeff Hardy took off his shirt.

HBK then sets the ladder up in the corner, slams Razor, and goes back up again, and hits a big splash on Razor. Michael sets the ladder back up on the right place, and goes back up the ladder again. Razor shoves over the ladder, and Michaels gets flapjacked on the top rope. Michaels recovers about the same time as Razor, and they get a few more pieces of chain wresting togeather, before they run into each other and nearly knock each other out. HBK sets the ladder up in the corner, and goes to whip Razor into the corner, but Razor reverses it and HBK eats the ladder and goes flipping over to the outside. Razor takes the ladder outside the ring, and repays Shawn in kind for his ladder strikes earlier, and with interest. Razor sets up the ladder now, but Michaels recovers and goes up the turnbuckle, and manages to take down Razor – but the ladder falls on HBK. Physics is apparently not HBK's friend right now.

Razor sets up the ladder and both men start climbing the ladder at the same time. The two men trade blows on top of the ladder, with Razor getting the better hand and hip-tossing Michaels, but the ladder buckles. Razor climbs up the twisted ladder, reaches the belts, but Michaels dropkicks the ladder, knocking off Razor. HBK drags Razor to his feet, whips him, and then hits a Sweet Chin Music! Finally, Michaels goes for the Razor's Edge, but he can't lift him all the way, so he piledrives him instead. Michaels gets on the top turnbuckle with the ladder, and rides it down on Razor. These guys have done everything with the ladder short of Pillmanizing each other and suplexing the thing.

Michaels sets the ladder up over Razor (smart idea) and Michaels goes up, but Razor recovers, and shoves the ladder over, and Michaels gets crotched on the top rope, with his ankle tied in the rope. Razor sets up the ladder, and HBK can only look on as Razor retrieves the belts.

Winner: Razor Ramon by retrieving the belts at 19:49. Ramon is the Undisputed WWF Intercontinental Champion.
Rating: **** - Excellent match. This match basically wrote the book on the modern ladder match.

We then get a very, very brief vignette backstage establishing that we're not having the 5-on-5 tag team match, as the Heels can't decide on a team captain (allowing Jeff Jerret to get his Wrestlemania Debut).. This then leads to a vignette between the Bill Clinton impersonator, Todd Pettingill, and “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase. Finally, a vignette on the Hitman/Yokozuna feud. Finally, we're introduced to our guest timekeeper, Jenny Garth, and our guest ring announcer, Burt Reynolds (again, oh how the mighty have fallen). Burt basically phones it in for doing the announcements, showing slightly less enthusiasm than Ben Stein would show. Burt first introduces our special guest Ref - “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, and the crowd (and I) go nuts.

WWF Championship: Bret “Hitman” Hart vs. Yokozuna (c) w/ Mr. Fuji & Jim Cornette

Jim Cornette is making his Wrestlemania debut. Yokozuna jumps Bret before the bell. Both men trade blows in the ring, with Yokozuna taking control. Bret tries in vain to knock the mighty oak of Yokozuna down, with Yokozuna finally taking control. Yokozuna repeatedly hits Bret in the head (with Bret still selling his kayfabe leg injury from earlier in the night). Bret ultimately manages to regain control with some brawling (which is unusual for Bret).

Bret finally floors Yokozuna and goes for the pin, but Cornette drags Piper out of the ring. Not a bright one, that boy. Piper kind of shrugs, goes “what can I do” and levels Cornette. However, Yokozuna finally gets a chance to recover and regain control, throwing Bret out of the ring. Yokozuna waits for the count, but Bret manages to respond. Yokozuna whips Bret into the corner and goes for the big splash but misses. Bret manages to hit a bulldog and goes for the pin, but only gets 2. Bret goes up and hits the measured elbow drop for 2. Bret and Yokozuna return to their feet, with Bret continues working over Yokozuna. Lariat by Bret for 2. Bret goes up, and goes for a flying forearm, but Yokozuna catches him and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Yokozuna drags Bret to the corner and goes up. Yokozuna goes for the Banzai Drop, but Yokozuna loses his balance and falls back, and Bret rolls out of the way. Bret makes the cover and gets the 3.

Winner... and NEW WWF Champion: Bret “The Hitman” Hart by pinfall at 10:32.
Rating: *** - Perfectly Acceptable Match.

After the match, Yokozuna doesn't take kindly to Piper having counted three, and he chases Bret to the back. Lex comes out to the ring, and Lex and Bret shake hands. Piper returns, as does the rest of the faces (and Burt Reynolds) who celebrate with Bret, allowing the Sean Waltman (as the 1-2-3 Kid) to make his Wrestlemania debut, as well as Bob Holly (as Sparky Plugg) and Billy and Bart Gunn (as The Smoking Gunns). Owen then comes out, and doesn't celebrate, simply looks on from the entrance way in disbelief and anger. The Owen-Bret feud is far from over.

Overall Rating: **** - Hell of an opener, and the ladder match was great. Alas, I wasn't able to see many of the other matches on the card due to damage to the disk. All in all, though, the event was enjoyable, and I would recommend picking it up.

Thanks to those of you that have already read the “Rap is Pro
Wrestling” blog from last

Thanks to those of you that have already read the "Rap is Pro
Wrestling" blog from last week. At the time, I thought that it would be
a one-shot deal, but several of my readers said that they would be
interested in seeing me break down the parallels between individuals
from the music industry and professional wrestlers. So, I figure that I
need to start at the top...

...Hov!
Jay-Z is the epitome of what we as entertainers strive for. A
true student of the culture, Shawn Carter honed his skills under
respected veterans like Big Daddy Kane, Jaz-O, and later was close
friends with the late (great) Notorious B.I.G. He has released some of
the most important songs and albums of his era, and is arguably the
greatest rapper of all time. His business ventures range from Rocafella
Records to the New Jersey Nets, and have him vastly approaching
billionaire status. For the sake of comparison, I'll try and focus
primarily on Jay's impact in the world of entertainment. Now you may be
asking yourself, "what wrestler is Dan going to try and parallel to
Jay-Z?" Some of you that know me well might expect a Ric Flair
comparison, since I feel that both are the absolute best ever in their
respective fields. But Hov's parallel is...

...The
Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels. Arguably the greatest wrestler
outside of Flair, Michaels' career is a collection of controversy and
personal accomplishment that will stand the test of time. So, let's get
into it!

While doing promo for "Reasonable Doubt," Jay-Z would tell interviewers
that he planned to release 2 more albums then retire. After the success
of "In My Lifetime Vol. 2" (which by Jay's prediction would've been his
last album), there was no way that fans, or Def Jam for that matter,
were going to let go of him that easily. To me, this is reminiscent of
how right after Shawn Michaels had ascended to the top of the World
Wrestling Federation, he suffered what was considered a career ending
injury. The difference is that while Michaels didn't actively compete
for nearly 5 years, he would always pop up on pay per views, and would
never officially say "I'm retired." Jay-Z kept releasing albums, most
notably "The Blueprint," and then told the world that he was REALLY
retiring after "The Black Album." He took a nice desk job at Def Jam,
and seemed to be content in retirement, until he came back with
"Kingdom Come"...

...just as Michaels returned to wrestling after having his first match
in 5 years against
Triple H (who we'll get to later) at Summerslam in 2002.

When discussing the parallels between the two with other wrestling
fans, one of the common responses was that both men are more popular
than ever, even though both are considered to be in the twilight of
their careers. It can be argued that Shawn Michaels has stolen the show
at every Wrestlemania that he's competed in since 2002, even when he
was not headlining the event. (the guy even had a good match with Vince
McMahon a few years back). Not many people will argue if you said that
Jay-Z has taken hip hop to the next level of exposure, relevance, and
profitability. And as for stealing the show, we need to only look back
7 months to early December, when Jay's "American Gangster" stole the
spotlight from the largest selling hip hop album of the year, Kanye
West's "Graduation."

That last statement brings us to another point: their allies and/or
business partners. Michaels broke into the business as a part of the
tag team "The Rockers" with Marty Jannetty. He outperformed his tag
team partner, and showed the charisma and talent that all wrestling
superstars need. So, although it was portrayed in a fictional
storyline, in some ways, Michaels did leave the guy that he broke into
the business with hanging in limbo. As his career continued to
sky-rocket, Jannetty became an afterthought.

To sum up the relevance of that last paragraph, all I have to say is
this: Dame Dash is Marty Jannetty. Jay, Biggs, and Dame formed a label,
with Jay as the flagship artist. The thing that Dame & Biggs
failed to realize is that no matter how many times he put their names
into the rhymes, or let them dance in his videos, Jay-Z WAS Rocafella
Records. They all made insane amounts of money during their run
together, but when the Def Jam era of 5-6 sub-labels came to an end,
Jay was the only one left standing when the smoke cleared. Nowadays,
Dame Dash is about as visible as his boy Camron has been after his
run-in with 50 Cent. (hmmm, what wrestler would 50 be?)

Michaels opened a wrestling school during his retirement, giving up and
coming wrestlers a chance to hone their skills. To date, none of his
former students have won singles titles, and only one student has won a
championship (Lance Cade). Rocafella Records became a label that
consisted of Jay-Z and his homeboys, with just about everyone being
given a chance to release an album. From the original core roster, only
Beanie Siegal became relevant. I know what you're thinking, but hear me
out...

...Kanye West is Triple H! The current heir to Jay-Z's throne actually
started out producing records for the Jigga man. He had a pivotal role
in the classic album "The Blueprint," which many will say is Jay-Z's
best work to date. Some would say that Shawn Michaels best run in
wrestling history was as a part of Degeneration X, where he was
supported by an up-and-coming Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Triple H was
Shawn's right hand man, lending a hand during vital matches, and help
write some of their most memorable skits. As Michaels seemingly walked
off into the sunset, Triple H began to rise up the ranks, and fill the
void left by Michaels, similar to how Kanye West kept the Roc on top of
the rap game while Jay-Z was calling the shots from the boardroom.

Both men have reinvented themselves, transforming into something
different from their early years. Shawn Michaels went from a
womanizing, manipulative spoiled superstar to a God-fearing,
spirtually-guided passionate veteran. Meanwhile Jay-Z went from a
throwback jersey to a three-piece suit, expanding his reach from Marcy
Projects to Suburbia.

In 2008, sold out arenas are filled by fans that spent their hard
earned money to see one of the all-time greats put on an unforgettable
performance. Both Shawn Michaels and Jay-Z give everything when it
comes to their live performances. Every time we say "there's no way
that he can top last year," they find a way to do it. From the U.K. to
Saudi Arabia, both men have left fans speechless, and almost in a state
of awe.

Taped from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

The Goodfather & Bull Buchanan vs. The Big Show

Show beats both members of RTC with chokeslams.

Vince McMahon Promo

McMahon starts by acknowledging Shane's comments from Monday. He says Shane was right, he would have fired every WCW wrestlers asses the second he had their contracts. But, since Shane owns 25 percent of WWE he has the right to give any of them a contract if he so chooses. Once they're here though, they will have to contend with Vince.

On to Triple H. Hunter acted out of emotion on Monday instead of using his head. On Monday, Hunter wasn't quite so cerebral. By the end of the night he expects Triple H to apologize, not only to him, but to Stone Cold Steve Austin.

It's reported that The Rock suffered a broken tibia as a result of the chair shots from Steve Austin on Raw and will miss 2-4 months.

In the back, Shane McMahon talks to the Hardy Boys

Rhyno vs. K-Kwik

Rhyno squashes Kwik and finishes him with the Gore in about a minute and a half.

William Regal and Kurt Angle vs. Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit

Another good tag match between these two teams.

Angle hits Benoit with an Angle Slam outside the ring.

Jericho goes for a lionsault but hits knees. A Regal Cutter finishes it.

In the back, Kane and the Undertaker discuss WrestleMania success. Rhyno barges into the picture and tells Kane he's not worthy of wearing the Hardcore Belt. He doesn't know what Hardcore is, but real soon Rhyno will show him.

Commissioner Regal is in the ring and requests the presence of the Hardys. They come out looking somewhat perplexed. Regal tells The Hardys he couldn't help but notice them talking to the competition backstage. He's not angry, he understands that the Hardys are just seeking out options and opportunities. Well tonight, he will give them an opportunity for a WWF Tag Team Title shot, if they can beat their opponents tonight. The Undertaker and Kane

The Brothers of Destruction vs. The Hardy Boys

BoD dominate the match, with the Hardys hitting an occasional high-spot.

Kane is in the ring fighting Matt when Austin comes down the aisle and pulls Taker off the apron. Austin posts the Undertaker.

While the ref is distracted by all of this Eddie Guerrero runs in through the crowd and hits Kane with the belt. Jeff hits the Swanton and covers Kane for 3.

X-Factor vs. The Dudley Boyz

The Dudleys dominate with power moves.

The ref takes a bump during the 3-D.

Albert gets in the ring and takes out both Dudleys with clotheslines. A double superkick on D-Von ends it. Winners: X-Factor

Linda McMahon joins us from Titan Towers with news of a major announcement on Monday Night Raw.

Promo Time with Stone Cold Steve Austin

Austin says he's not scared of anybody and that was the point he was making against the Undertaker earlier.

He then calls out Triple H for his apology.

Hunter hits the ring. He tells Austin he is sorry. Sorry he didn't finish him off when he had the chance. He's sorry he sent a fat moron to do the job instead of doing it himself. But most of all he's sorry that Vince McMahon never saw the truth. The whole time Vince was feuding with Austin, he knew he secretly loved Stone Cold. Loved the money they made and the merchandise they sold and the press they got. What Vince never saw though was that Steve Austin couldn't carry the ball. Every time Steve Austin got his shot he got hurt or sidetracked. And every time it was Hunter who was there to run with the ball.

Austin asks Hunter if he wants to take a shot at him right now. Does he really wanna piss off Vince McMahon. "Trust me, that's a war you can't win."

Hunter says he'll succeed where Austin always failed and he'll start by taking out Vince's new little friend at Backlash.

Vince hits the ring and says that match will never happen. That because of his loyalty to the WWF Stone Cold is being given Backlash off. Hunter is pissed.

European Title- Eddie Guerrero (c) vs. Test- No Disqualification

Wild brawl all around ringside and even into the front row

Test hits Eddie with a flying elbow off the buckle through the announce table.

The other Radicals hit the ringside area and put the boots to Test. They help Eddie back in the ring. They get Test back in and hold him down for a frog splash.

The lights go out and Kane comes out. Kane hits the ring and clears the ring of Malenko and Saturn. A chokeslam for Eddie Guerrero. Eddie and Test both get up. Test hits the big boot. 1,2,3.

Winner and NEW European Champion- Test

Why I Stopped Watching Wrestling

As a kid, I was hooked to watching WWF/E wrestling. Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Chris Jericho, and Chris Benoit (the 2000-2003 Benoit; not the Benoit from the final days of his life), easily comprising my top four favorite wrestlers of all time, with Stone Cold being the definite number one, followed by a take-your-pick number two between The Rock and Chris Jericho.

I'm not going to write a post like I have previously written about NASCAR in the past. However, I'm going to explain why I stopped watching wrestling.

It all got tiring to me following 2003. It became more cut-and-dried than ever before, more about marketing than ever before, and the wrestling was being overshadowed by silly storylines and empty promos.

So, when The Rock and Stone Cold battled one last time at Wrestlemania 19, it was really The Rock's last storyline-stipulated match and Stone Cold's last match entirely. We seen Stone Cold stunners, three Rock Bottoms in a row to win the match for The Rock, The Rock wearing Stone Cold's pattented black Rattlesnake/3:16 vest, we seen two great wrestlers promptly end their feud. The match marked the end of one of the greatest rivalries in pro wrestling history.

For me, the instant that marked my wrestling fanhood was when, after the match, while sitting next to a lying-flat Steve Austin, The Rock pushed Earl Hebner out the way, and said to Steve, "Thanks; I love you, man."

That, my friends marked the end to an era of pro wrestling, and is gives me heartache just thinking about it. It was a great match and a great ending.

Q: We are joined today by somebody who has skyrocketed to quite a lot of fame in a short period of time in the WWE, a man who is known not only for his wrestling moves but also for his comedic talents, none other than Santino Marella, Mr Marella, Welcome to The Main Event, How you doing sir?

A: Ahh very very well, it’s a pleasure to be on The Main Event!

Q: Santino, maybe you can tell us a little bit about how you got into the business, transitioning from MMA and judo to professional wrestling. I believe you even attended Concordia University here in Montreal and were part of the amateur wrestling team there, correct?

A: Absolutely, I did Juno for many years, then tried to break into the business, I tried to go to Japan, and they always told me if you do good there, they are gonna bring you here, so when I went their, I actually was starting to do good there, but I got kicked out because I overstayed one visit by a couple days you know, so back here I went to OVW and everything seemed to work out just right.

Q: Well speaking of OVW, You were involved in a now infamous incident with jim cornette and the boogeyman which resulted in cornette slaping you and his eventual dismissal from OVW, can you tell us a bit about how that went down?

A: Oh this haha, this is a good one, So im at this time only in OVW for one month, and my daughter was visiting me, and so we were sitting in the audience and I thought maybe the boogeyman recognized me from the school and as he was leaving the ring, he turns to us, and I think, oh what a good guy, he is gonna scare my daughter for me, for me that’s like a present, but I didn’t realize that we were standing in front of the emergency exit where he goes out, so Im smiling thinking my daughter is going to crap her pants, and Jim Cornette freaks out and says move move move, this man, you have to be scared of this man, and then we moved and I thought it was over, but somebody called me in the back and he freaked out a little bit, slap here slap there, and I think to myself that I cant punch this guy in the face because im Canadian, and im gonna get kicked out of America. So anyways I just kept quiet and the rest was history, the WWE called me and apologized, saying this is not how we treat out talent, this is not how we want to develop inspired young athletes and he was going to be fired anyways they told me because he’s crazy, but that definitely put me on the radar a little bit but there was no freebies from that, I had to work up from scratch just like everyone else.

Q : Following the dismissal of Cornette, its been said that Paul Heyman really helped guide you and prepare you for the big time, how much influence did Paul Heyman have on your preparation.

A: Well Paul Heyman did something I did not realize, he would actually go up in the bleachers and watch us practice, I was in the intermediate class with Rip Rogers, and he would watch and scope out new talent, He is a special person Paul Heyman, some people can call them whatever they want about him from the past but he is a good person to me, so one day in the parking lot, I was doing the boris character, and he said I want you to start on TV next week, and your gonna start to make it in the business and this is crazy news, you know my knees starting shaking, but im thinking no problem im ready, and next week, sure enough his word was true, and I debuted on OVW TV.

Q: You practically went from one day being in developmental to the next day debuting on WWE television in Italy and winning the Intercontinental championship from Umaga of all people. What was your initial reaction when you were told you of the plans for you?

A: Well actually they didn’t tell me the plans until like an hour before, because im driving in Kentucky to a house show for OVW and the phone rings, and this is like Saturday or maybe Friday, yes it was Friday, and they say Santino, your Italian right? I say of course Im Italian, so they say OK, were gonna send you your passport, you might fly out tomorrow, to Milan, and debut as Santino Marella, so I hang up the phone and look at the guy beside me, im thinking oh my god, whats happening, this cant be true, they called me back, and I turned down the volume, I clear my throat, professional voice and say hello, and then they say, yup ok your booked tomorrow, your flying to Milan, you might debut Monday, but you know the wrestling business, might could change last second, so fingers crossed, I show up, walking around don’t know whats really going on and Arn Anderson, AA, comes up to me and say Hey looks like your gonna have a pretty nice day, your winning the Intercontinental Title, and you know I actually froze for the first time, he continued walkig by me, and I kept looking in the same direction, and I just froze in disbelief, and sure enough it ended up happening,

Q : If you had the chance, would you have changed anything about the first month of your WWE career, was it too much too fast?

A: I wouldn’t change a thing because its all a means to get where we are today and if I change something back there, you saw Back to the future, if you go change something in the past your going to affect the future!

Q: In OVW you had the shoot-fight persona when you were Boris Alexiev as you mentioned, which really highlighted your in-ring ability, in WWE they utilize your comedic strengths, do you think there will be a time when you can combine your comedic talents and your in-ring talents into the same character?

A: Yea I hope so, you see sometimes you can want something to be a certain way, but if it doesn’t make sense, you cant force it, so if we get there naturally, organically, and this comes out and we have a good storyline that will allow it to make sense then ok, but I just cant one day wake up and kick everyone’s butt

Q: For awhile you played the jealous boyfriend of Maria Kanellis, how was working with her?

A: Ahh you know, to quote Stone Cold Steve Austin, one time when they asked him about Trish Stratus, his response was, “you know, she’s a chick” haha

Q: Well actually You were ripping on Stone Cold's movie the condemned on TV pretty intensely, how did you really feel about the movie and how did you like working with stone cold and getting doused by the beer hose?

A: Well the movie is the movie, but working with Stone Cold Steve Austin, that was definitely a moment where I stopped and looked around and said to myself, “sum of a gun” your in the ring with Stone Cold Steve Austin you know, and the beer hose you know, under normal circumstances that could be a better thing, but it was really fun.

Q : Well you poke fun at Stone Cold’s acting, but When your in ring career begins to wind down, would you like to make the jump to the acting field?

A: Make no mistake about it, Hollywood, I put them on notice already, movies, tv shows, books, cooking shows, sitcoms, everything, when it comes to Hollywood everything, we made some good friends there at ABC with Jimmy Kimmel and I told them the same thing, just be ready because, when I come, I’m coming strong

RR: This coming Saturday, your appearing at the 42nd Annual CHIN Picnic in Ontario, what that’s gonna be like?

A: This is actually the coolest thing ive ever done, im gonna be the celebrity guest judge in the bikini contest, and little does the winner know she gets an additional prize, she gets to go on a date with Santino Marella, maybe the top 3 actually im not sure.

Q: You recently took part along with other celebrities in the "Dreams Take Flight" where you took 300 kids with mental, social or physical challenges with you to Disney World in Orlando. How did that opportunity come about and how did it go?

A: You know I love doing charity, you come away with such a larger prospective, and for me Doug Gilmour, and George St Pierre was there and im still a big fan of those things too, but you know the kids are the real magic of that event, you go down, and I was pretending to be scared of the roller coaster a little bit, and this one little girl I remember, she just survived cancer, and she was so supportive of me being scared of the roller coaster that she was forgetting about all her problems, and those kind of actions make you realize that these kids have some strength inside of them that is unbelievable.

Q: At the hall of fame, The Rock, a guy you've never worked with, mentioned you along with some of the biggest stars in the company, how did that feel?

A: You know I had nothing to do with that, it was the company who thought of it, and That was a great feeling, and I know the rock isn’t really wrestling right now, and there probably wont be an official opportunity to pass the torch so to speak with regards to the charisma, and the in ring ability and things like that, so I hopefully interpreted that as some sort of informal passing of the torch something like that, Im not sure exactly what they had in mind with that but that’s how I interpreted that,

Q: With that in mind, and looking back at how fast and how popular Santino Marella has become, did you ever find that someone in the backstage area was jealous of you, did you ever get any heat from the boys in the lockerroom?

A: Actually, No. In the beginning, I guess some people are hesitant, this new guy in the lockerroom, given the title, given TV time, but throughout the last year ive become pretty good friends with everyone in the lockeroom, so now there seeing their friend do well, so its not so much jealousy but you know it’s a little bit dog eat dog, and there is not opportunities for everyone but if your smart, you want the business and company as a whole to do well because there is a trickle down effect for everyone to get paid and feed their families, but the locker room is really cool and they are some of my closest friends, and you work with them so much they are like family.

Q: As of late you have been feuding with Rodney the Piper with Cousin Sal, even appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Is Roddy Piper as crazy as people say he is/was?

A: Oh yea, absolutely. He beat up Cousin Sal so bad in that training video, he choked him unconscious for real, slapped him like seven times and just basically beat him up and he’s legit, he’s rowdy, he’s roddy and he’s a piper.

Q : The 2008 WWE Draft went down last week, where you happy that you remained on Raw? And is there anyone that has been moved to Raw that you'd like to feud with in the months to come?

A: I am very happy to stay on Raw, all our programs are supposed to be equal, and the talent on every show is supposed to be equal but Raw is Vince’s baby being live television and im happy to stay there, my schedule, my friends, I wanted to stay the same, if its not broken, then don’t fix it, and with the new people coming over, there’s Rey Misterio, finally someone im bigger than, maybe I can beat him up, Batista, umm I might want to become friends with him somehow, but I dunno there is definitely some opportunities now.

Pic : The Game

So when I

As I've previously established, for better or worse, I'm a pro wrestling fan.

So when I heard that Wrestlemania 25, excuse me XXV, was going to be held here in Houston I was pretty jazzed. Stephe and I went to XVII (17) and had a great time. It was every bit the spectacle they promised it would be.

Yesterday, the WW(F)E held a press conference at Toyota Center to promote the event. Since it was going to be held at lunch time, David and I decided to head downtown to check it out.

So, this being Texas, we hoped in the SUV and hit the highway. After exiting near MInute Maid Park and working our way back toward Toyota Center we were stunned by the number of people already in line for the press conference. Remember, this is just a press conference to announce the show and probably the date tickets go on sale. The line was already around the building. I don't know what I expected, but it certainly wasn't this.

We parked in the designated portion of the garage and then walked over and took our place in line. On the way we passed a kid passing out fliers for TNA's upcoming "Victory Road" pay-per-view which is being held here as well. What? You didn't know about that? Don't feel bad. Neither did a lot of the people in line. Well, at least until the TNA marketing blitz hit. Not only were they represented by an overweight teen sporting the kind of scraggly beard that only the young can grow, but they also had this going for them.

Nothing says we're ready for the big show (please note the lower case letters) like a rental van with the main event plastered on the side. Can you dig it sucka?

As the line finally started moving, we saw that the E actually had a merchandise tent set up in front of the arena. THEY WERE SELLING MERCHANDISE AT A PRESS CONFERENCE! No matter what my views on Vince McMahon and his ego may be, the man is an evil genius. I mean look at the family in this picture. They're all gussied up in their WWE best and dad is still lugging a bag of new crap, probably the latest in Umaga activeware.

While looking at the logo being debuted on the DiamondVision outside and wondering if we'd make it inside before it started raining, I saw a WWE camera crew working the crowd, getting soundbytes. In anticipation of my first promo on over a decade, I prepared a speech about my excitement at seeing Cody Rhodes, the son of a superstar, a superstar of the future. All this was done in his father's trademark lisp...if you will. You either get that joke or you don't. Alas, the line moved and I never got the chance to wax poetically about the 2nd generation superstar.

Once inside we were filed in and ended up behind the cameras. Not the best vantage point for photos, but it had to do. Some folks got led into the balconies of the upper concourses. They were the ones in line when we got there. Maybe they knew what they were doing after all.

After being told we were going live in 1 minute (feel the excitement), the crowd got vocal. All manner of things were shouted over th opening sequence. Then some guy stepped to the podium and welcomed us to the stifling heat and cramped quarters. That's not a direct quote, but close. I used this time to try to figure out the best angle for getting some crummy pictures.

Then it was time for the main event.

First through the curtain, though he struggled, was Shawn Michaels. Michaels has never been one of my favorites. I remember his as a UWF jobber and I never could get behind his Blue Oyster/Village People gimmick in the 90s. But, once again, the evil genius of Vince McMahon trumps. He's had people buying into this guy for well over a decade now. Shawn laid out his history as "Mr. Wrestlemania," announced the on sale date, flashed some "bling," and ducked an Undertaker chant.

Then he mumbled something about Intercontinetal airport and San Antonio, likened himself to Elvis and left the building, all the while looking like a homeless vet.

Out next was CM Punk. He was carrying his Money in the Bank briefcase and looked like a trucker on a 3 day haul loaded up on cheap meth. The crowd loved him. Take it for what it is.

He talked about his briefcase, his title shot, his move to Raw and Wrestlemania. Then he sat down. Based on the picture I snapped, he must have sat down on something pointy.

Next up was Edge. He swaggered out with his shades on and the big gold belt over his shoulder, looking every bit like a champion. He took a swipe at the Undertaker and said something else but the acoustics were horrible. I took the opportunity to send John a text.

Then they trotted out a guy from Reliant Stadium followed by a pair of their silicone divas. I didn't bother with pictures.

Out next was America's favorite luchadore, not that he has a lot of competition at this point, Rey Misterio. Just back from an injury, Rey quickly noticed the podium was set up for the juice boys in the back. I couldn't help but notice that with his mask on and his suit, he looked remarkably like El Santo or Blue Demon in one of those old movies.

ATTENTION WWE FILMS!!! MAKE A LUCHA MOVIE WITH REY IN IT! MAKE IT SOON BEFORE HE FALLS DOWN AND HURTS HIMSELF AGAIN!! "REY MISTERIO versus THE DIVAS OF DOOM" IS MONEY IN THE BANK (no offense meant to CM Punk).

He commented on that as well as his string of injuries. Then he entered Mick Foley land telling the Houston crowd that on Wrestlemania night he's renaming his 6-1-9 the 7-1-3. The cheap pop was huge. Then a few folks in the crowd pointed out that Houston actually has 3 area codes by chanting 2-8-1 and 8-3-2. I'll take credit for that as I was the first one chanting 2-8-1.

Rey fell in a hole or sat down, I'm not sure which and out came Batista.

How this guy is over is beyond me. Without his scripted promo he just stumbled through a string of random nouns and glared at Edge. The tension was less than palpable.

Then, for no apparently reason, he began to channel Steve Austin ending his promo with "Gimme a Hell Yeah." WTF?

To nobody's surprise, the anchor spot went to the poster boy for nepotism, "The Game" himself, Triple H. He swaggered out. Made some lame joke about his makeup, took swipes at Michaels, Misterio and Punk and then teased a DX moment.

Game Over? Damn right he's over.

The crowd was eating his act up, no matter how stale parts of it are.

Then we were all dismissed so the press could get some soundbytes and quotes.

As we lef t the parking garage, $18 worth of quarters richer, we saw the production trucks lined up in an adjacent field. I'm pretty sure the one with the Great Khali's face on it is the one they use to move him from location to location, kinda like in "Smokey and the Bandit 2." I opted for a picture of the CM Punk truck because I thought it would be funny as hell to see that on the interstate.

Oh, and the answer is yes. They did have Hornswoggle hats.

Wrestlemania is in April. You can expect more updates right here on Gonzo Geek.

Excelente pra SD)

RECORDAR É VIVER: POR UMA NOITE OS HARDY BOYZ VOLTARAM A LUTAR JUNTOS.

Os Hardy Boyz lutaram contra John Morrison e The Miz. Perderam e a ECW escolheu um lutador. E o escolhido foi.... (olha o balde de água fria).... MATT HARDY

Mickie James e Melina contra Natalya NeidHart e Victoria.

Raw, Smackdown e ECW. Nomes de peso no time do Raw como Triple H, John Cena, Batista, Kane . Representando a ECW, John Morrison, Matt Hardy, Chavo Guerrero e pela Smackdown, Jeff Hardy, Big Show e Edge.

Hulkster- if there is ever a time the youth of America needs you, its now. Much like the "take your vitamins and say your prayers" speeches you spouted in the 80's I think you should go down to your son's cell and for the first time in the kids life knock some "reality" into him. Be sure you tell him that because he was coddled his whole life he thinks he's invincible and has no sense of responsibility. His lack of remorse toward his brain damaged friend is only going to enrage the state pen population all the more once he does go in. Be sure you tell him that dropping the soap in the pen is going to be a completely different experience then when he dropped it at home. The kid made a bad decision and needs to start being responsible for his actions.

If my son is solely responsible for causing an accident leaving someone brain damaged and his only response is "I'm being wrongly held" I may begin to question my parenting skills. To boot, Mommy Hogan is continuing to coddle this brat like he's the victim. C'mon Hulkster, tell your kid he's gotta pay his dues, go home and drop kick your wife for coddeling him and if nothing else...

Wrestlemania VIII

Date: April 5, 1992
Location: The Hoosier Dome - Indianapolis, Indiana.
Our hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby The Brain Heenan.

A little background: “HBK” Shawn Michaels has finally, and dramatically, split off from The Rockers by super-kicking Marty Janetty through a plate-glass window during Brutus Beefcake's talk-show segment, “The Barber Shop”. Also, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair jumped ship from WCW to the WWF, with the Big Gold Belt, and won the WWF Championship, ultimately leading to Randy Savage coming out of enforced retirement to try and win the belt back – well, that and the nekkid pictures of Miss Elizabeth that Flair said he had.

Champions:

WWF Heavyweight Champion: “Nature Boy” Ric Flair

WWF Intercontinental Champion: “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc. (Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Shyster w/ Jimmy Hart)

Before the first match, Reba McEntire sings the Star Spangled Banner – this being back when she was a Country star, rather then a sitcom star. Frankly, I hadn't heard her sing live, or acapella for that matter – and she's very good.

“HBK” Shawn Michaels w/ Sensational Sherri vs. “El Matador” Tito Santana

Poor Tito. He has since gotten saddled with a Matador gimmick. As if becoming a glorified jobber isn't enough. At least he gets a show of respect from Reba as she heads for the back. Heenan makes a few racist remarks against Tito. I miss Jesse. Jesse would just make a remark about gallantry not getting you anywhere. Apparently the WWE's still got the rights to the original version of “Sexy Boy” (with vocals by Sherri Martel).

Michaels is really eating up his new heel status. Tito starts up pretty strong and gets a 2 count off a high cross body. Tito locks on a side headlock for a bit, before HBK breaks out. Quick running chain wrestling by both men, before Tito lariats him clean out of the ring. Tito drags HBK back in, and Tito locks on the side headlock, before HBK breaks out by pulling on Tito's ponytail. HBK regains control with some good strikes, before Tito locks the rest hold-er-side headlock right back on.

Tito gets a series of 2-counts off a side-headlock, followed by a 2-count off a small package. Shawn finally regains control by throwing Tito clean out of the ring. Tito crawls back to the ring and ends up on the receiving end of a back breaker for 2. Shawn locks on a side-headlock, but Tito breaks out with some elbows, only to hear some Sweet Chin Music. While Shawn poses for the crowd, I might as well point out that Sherri's outfit leaves little to the imagination, especially that skirt. Shawn goes for a Teardrop Suplex (leg-hook Saito Suplex) but gets it reversed. Tito goes for a back drop, but Shawn reverses it. Shawn sends Tito for the ride, but Tito responds with a flying forearm that sends Shawn clean out of the ring.

Tito sends Shawn back in the ring and hits a springboard flying forearm on Shawn. Tito hits an inverted atomic drop and another flying forearm that sends Shawn back out of the ring again. Shawn gets up on the apron and Tito tries to body-slam him in, but Shawn reverses it with a strike that sends Tito to the mat with Shawn on top, for the pin.

Winner: HBK Shawn Michaels with an reversed bodyslam at 10:38.

Rating: *** - Not bad – Tito got a good showing in, which considering where his career was at the time, wasn't half bad.

After the match, we get a few shots of women in the audience, who are loving HBK. This leads to a Okerlund interview with the Legion of Doom and their manager, Paul Ellering, who is making his Wrestlemania debut. No, The Legion is not wrestling today. They're just cutting a promo on “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart, Irwin R. Shyster (who is making his Wrestlemania debut), and “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase (who make up Money Inc.). But they're not wrestling them. So... why are we getting this interview?
Quotable Quotes: Ellering - “We earn our money the old fashioned way... beating people for it!”

After that interview, we get Sean Mooney interview with Jake “The Snake” Roberts (who is now sporting a naked woman with a strategically placed snake airbrushed on the legs of his tights). Apparently Mooney has never heard of Damien, and has never seen Jake bring Damien to the ring. We then get a little recap of Jake's appearance on The Funeral Parlor (Paul Bearer's talk show) where Jake traps 'Taker's hand in the casket, knocks the urn away from Bearer and then hits Bearer with a DDT. Now, this is Wrestlemania, and Jake's facing The Undertaker, so you've got 3 guesses to how this will turn out, and the first 2 don't count.
Quotable Quotes: Mooney - “I have to ask you about several rumors that claim that you are going to bring a snake to the ring.”

Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. The Undertaker w/Paul Bearer

'Taker's entrance loses some of it's impact when it doesn't have the lighting effects, I've noticed. It still has it's effect though – the kids in the audience look scared.

I've noticed that 'Taker's original wrestling style reminds me of Michael Myers from Halloween, slow, deliberate, invincible – which makes for a nice contrast with Jake's fast footwork. Jake pounds on Taker for a bit, before Taker sends him outside the ring and sends him into a ring post before both men return to the ring and Jake returns to beating on the Phenom. Jake goes for an Irish whip from coast to to coast, but 'Taker resists and reverses, and then chokes Roberts in the corner. Taker continues with that one-handed choke, with the occasional strike every now and then as well.

Undertaker stops choking for a bit to hit his Big Flying Forearm of Doom. Taker goes for the Tombstone, but Jake reverses into a DDT. However, Jake doesn't capitalize with a pin, and the Undertaker sits up! Clothesline by Taker again, and Roberts signals for the DDT, and again Roberts doesn't capitalize, instead going out of the ring to attack Bearer, and Undertaker sits up! Undertaker follows Roberts out of the ring, and hits a Tombstone on the ringside mat! Undertaker rolls Jake in, and Roberts can Rest In Peace.

Winner: The Undertaker by pinfall with a Tombstone Piledriver at 6:41.

Rating: *** - Again, not bad. Not great. They had to contrive why Roberts didn't win after the DDT though, with the failure to capitalize.

We then go backstage for an Okerlund interview with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Bret “Hitman” Hart, who are facing each other this evening in an IC title match. Piper brings up that he and Bret were trained by the same guy, Stu Hart (though Piper, as per usual, too a roundabout way of saying it).

WWF Intercontinental Championship: Bret “Hitman” Hart vs. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (c)

As Piper and Hart have a brief little staring contest in the ring, a couple fans try to put up a “Four Horsemen 4 Ever” sign in the crowd. Hart and Piper lock up – with Hart hitting an couple of arm drags before we get some great chain wrestling. They then move into a test of strength, or a “Greco-Roman knuckle lock” as Jesse Ventura would call it, before both men start trading arm wringers, before Bret locks one on that Piper can't break out of, , ultimately turning it into an arm bar that Piper does break out of, only to end up eating a standing drop kick. Small package by Hart for 2. Hart hits a high running cross body by the ropes that sends both men rolling over to the outside.

Piper makes it back to the ring first. Piper opens the ropes to let hart in, but then cheap-shots Hart when the ref points out to Hart that his boot is untied, making for an nice twist on the oldest trick n the book. Piper hits a bulldog, and Bret is bust wide open! Piper covers for 2. Piper hits a big knee to the head of Bret for 2. Bret gets a sunset flip for 2. Piper regains control with a series of jabs for 2. Bret hits a series of slaps and a flying forearm that sends Piper to the outside of the ring. Piper gets men and both clothesline each other. Piper goes up top, but Hart stops him, hits a face slam, and inverted atomic drop and a snap suplex for 2. Russian Legsweep for 2. Bret's wearing the crimson mask on the upper quarter of his face. Hart tries to lock on the Sharpshooter, but Piper blocks it, and Hart goes up top and goes for that measured elbow drop, but Piper gets a boot up to block it.

Piper accidentally sends Piper into the Ref and sends him out of the Ring, Piper beats up Bret outside of the ring, before sending Bret back into the ring, and grabbing the ring bell. Piper goes to clock Bret with the bell, but Piper has second thoughts and changes his mind, locking on the sleeper instead, but Bret reverses it into a float-over springboard back press for the pin.

Winner: Bret “Hitman” Hart by pinfall with a float-over springboard back press at 13:49. Bret is the new WWF Intercontinental Champion.

Rating: *** - Again, a good match – but not stellar. Now I'm wondering if ROH got me spoiled.

After the match, Piper helps Bret to his feet and puts the belt on him. We then go the announce booth, where Heenan introduces us to the newest member of the World Bodybuilding Federation, and future champion... Lex Luger. Well, the WBF didn't go anywhere, but Lex did, at least for a little bit. But again, Lex is sitting in his front room (or in a hotel room) watching TV and putting over the WBF... which isn't showing up on this card at all. So... why isn't this interview on WWF Superstars?

Quotable Quotes: Monsoon (to Heenan, about Lex): “You found somebody more conceited than you are!”

We then go to The Nasty Boys, Repo Man and The Mountie (Jacques Rougeau), who cut a promo on their team upcoming match against Big Boss Man, Sgt. Slaughter, Virgil, and (groan) “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. We then go to Slaughter's team, who cuts their own promo on their “worthy” opponents. I smell a stinkburger.

Quotable Quotes: Duggan - “There ain't gonna be no take downs! There ain't gonna be no go-behinds.” Nor, apparently, will there be any grammar.

The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags), The Mountie, and Repo Man w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Sgt. Slaughter, Big Boss Man, Virgil and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan

Both teams are introduced by special guest ring-announcer Ray Combs of “Family Feud” who stalls, delaying the inevitable. The only way, I fear, a good match could come out of this would be if it was a hardcore match, which is not the stipulations of this match. Fortunately, his stalling is funny.

Quotable Quotes: “Of 100 people surveyed here this evening... (about the Nasty Boys) they agree that they are two men sharing 1 brain... their tag team success can be summed up in 1 word – Lucky.” (At this point Ray has to roll out of the ring because the Nasty's break free of their tag team partners).

The ref loses control right away, as the faces clean the heels out of the ring. Boss Man is wearing Corellian coward stripes (as his pants have yellow stripes on the legs). We get Duggan and Sags as the legal men. Sags takes control or a bit, before Duggan tags in Sarge, and Sags tags in Knobbs. Both men trade offense before Slaughter tags in BBM. Knobs dominates Bossman for a bit, before tagging in Repo Man. Bossman tags in Virgil after kicking Repo between the uprights. Repo manages to regain control, tags in Sags, who gets a 2-count after a pumphandle slam. Mountie comes on, goes up top, gets caught by Bossman, and things degenerate into a slobberknocker. Knobbs grabs Virgil's face mask, and goes to clobber Virgil with it, but misses and clobbers Sags, who then gets pinned by Virgil.

Winner: The faces by pinfall because the Knobbs couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, at 6:39.

Rating: * - I could have gone without seeing that.

We then go backstage with a Mooney interview with Flair and his executive consultant, Mr. Perfect. They promise that after they win, they'll put up their pinup picture of Miss Elizabeth on the big screen. We then go to Okerlund who is trying to get an interview with “Macho Man” Randy Savage, but he's not giving interviews.

World Wrestling Federation Championship: “Nature Boy” Ric Flair (c) w/ “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage

If you thought Bret bled in his match, I expect Flair to be wearing the crimson mask. Savage sprints out to the ring, possibly beating Warrior's record. Savage chases Flair around the ring before we get the bell after Savage attacks Flair in the entrance way. Perfect manhandles Savage back to the ring area, so we can properly get this match started. Flair hits those signature knife edge chops (which probably don't hurt that much, since Savage is wearing a shirt, but Savage regains control early on. Savage beats Flair from pillar to post, before Flair reverses it with a back drop that sends Savage out to the floor.

Flair rolls out and hits those big chops, before slamming Savage into the apron, and casually walking back into the ring. Savage gets smacked around by Flair in the ring for a bit, before Flair puts him in the corner for a some turnbuckle chops, and then a vertical suplex for 2. Side suplex by Flair for 2. Flair whips Savage from coast-to-coast, before leveling him with a big chop for 2, followed by a knee drop. Savage rolls out of the ring, but Flair follows and smacks Randy around some more. Another vertical suplex from the apron in by Flair for 2. Flair pauses for a moment to remind the ref that there is in fact a number after 2 and he should be counting it.

Flair returns to serving some yummy, yummy chops up to Savage in the turnbuckle. Mmm... chops. Savage starts to build up some momentum with some forearms, capping off with a swinging reverse neckbreaker. Flair goes up top, but Savage catches him and throws him off the top with authority. Savage spits in Flair's face., and flips Flair onto the apron. Flair goes back up again, goes for a flying clothesline, but Savage hits a clothesline of his own for 2. Flair goes for a clothesline, Save ducks it and responds with one of his own, sending Flair to the outside. Savage goes up, and hits a double axe-handle that sends Flair into the apron, and Flair is bust open. Savage beats Flair on the outside of the ring. Savage quickly breaks the count, before hitting a vertical suplex on Flair on the mat, and sends Flair back into the ring. Savage continues to ground and pound Flair, and then goes up and hits another double axe-handle for 2.

Savage goes back up again and hits the Flying Elbow but Perfect drags Savage out of the ring before he can get the 3-count. Savage chases Perfect, but as Perfect goes past Flair, he drops a pair of knucks to Flair, who waffles Savage for 2. Maybe it's just me, but Flair's hair always makes his bleeding seem much worse then it really is. While the ref is chewing out Flair, Perfect nails Savage with a chair. Elizabeth is on her way out to the ring now. Meanwhiles, Flair connects with a knee breaker and locks on the Figure Four Leglock, but Savage manages to reverse the hold, forcing Flair to break it. Savages reverses a slam into a small package for 2, and then hits a few strikes before getting a roll-up for the pin.

Winner: “Macho Man” Randy Savage by pinfall with a roll-up at 18:04, and is

Rating: **** - Very good match. Even thought I knew how it ended (from a previous Wrestlemania thingie I read), I really got into this match.

After the match, Flair tries to kiss Elizabeth – mistake! Savage snaps and chokes the crap out of Flair. These two aren't done – if they have anything to say about it. Perfect gets a few shots in as well. Eventually, security breaks both groups up, and Flair and Perfect head to the back, while Savage and Elizabeth celebrate. We then go to the back with Mooney, who interviews Flair... again. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan comes out to argue on Flair and Perfect's behalf. Flair demands a rematch. You know, Flair, Perfect, Heenan. We've almost got the Horsemen. We then go to Okerlund with Savage and Elizabeth. Savage is still selling that leg – either he's really that dedicated, or he's really injured. Either way, cut him some slack, and get him a crutch or a chair as a prop, jeez. Oh, and while Savage is a face, and is treating Elizabeth with respect, she still doesn't get any promo time.

As we're still in Intermission, we then go to the Wrestlemania VIII press conference, where Hogan was named Number 1 Contender over Sid Justice (later known as Sycho Sid, and then Sid Vicious), and generally recapping the Hogan/Sid Justi
